First day follow-up.
Elise is on the phone today for a first day follow-up,
and she's not getting a call back from a dude named Max.
And she thinks she knows why she's not getting a call back.
We'll get to that in a second.
But first, how long has it been since your date with Max?
Hey guys, so it's been like a month since I've talked with him.
I've texted him, I've called him, I've even reached out to've texted him I've called him I've even reached out
to his friends and like nothing radio silence you reached out to his friends yeah and he hasn't
called me back and it's weird because we were texting each other like all day every day for a
week did you meet his friends on the date no no but like we're we're like social media friends
you know like I just reached out to them on like Instagram. And they didn't say anything back to you?
No, like they've just been like ignoring me.
Okay, that might have been, that seems like a little bit far to go.
That is overstepping.
I just didn't know what else to do because I really liked him and you know.
So nobody's gotten back to you?
Not his friends, not his family, not him?
Well, I haven't contacted his family.
All right, we'll see if we can figure it out.
What did you guys do for your date?
Oh, my gosh.
This is actually super embarrassing.
I remember how the date started, but I have no idea how it ended.
Uh-oh.
So, in other words, either you got drunk or you just have a really bad memory.
Yeah, I actually blacked out.
How do people black out on a date?
But I was nervous.
I was nervous.
Nervous?
How many drinks does it take to black out for you?
I mean, I just had a few margaritas.
I did not think that I would get that wasted.
What's a few?
15?
Okay, I honestly don't remember.
But I wasn't, like, slamming margaritas, okay?
I'm just small.
I don't know.
Yeah.
I mean, sometimes that happens.
Like, you know, I don't drink like I used to.
But when I used to drink a lot, you would actually not want to get drunk.
But for some reason that night, like, three gets gets you hammered and then you're blacked out.
Except it sounds like you had more than three.
Anyway, so you blacked out and you don't remember the end of the date.
What do you remember?
Not a whole lot.
Just like we made small talk and I thought he was like really cute and that's about it. Do you remember how you got
home how the date ended and it's one of those times where you just kind of wake up and you're
you're at home and you wonder how you got there? Yeah I mean I was at home thank god I honestly
don't remember how I got there but like I woke up in my own bed so I guess that's good. I used to
black out and I woke up in my bed the next morning. guess that's good. I used to black out,
and I woke up in my bed the next morning.
I've never blacked out.
That was a success.
I don't understand that.
There's been a lot of my life that's blacked out
that I don't remember.
Yeah, you've woken up in many different weird places.
Yeah, I have.
Sometimes you just go to the spirit world for a little while,
you travel, and then you come back,
and you're like, well, if I don't remember it,
it didn't happen,
so if it was embarrassing, it doesn't matter.
But you're also like, what did happen last night?
And you have to try to figure out how to retrace your steps.
That's always it after a blackout.
It's retracing your steps.
That's figuring it out.
One time I lost my credit card when I was really, really drunk one time and blacked out.
And I woke up the next morning, didn't know how I got home, none of it.
And I had to find my credit card, but I didn't know where I went.
Well, I was able to retrace my steps with fast food receipts because I went to a McDonald's
and I went to a Taco Bell.
Oh my gosh.
And they were all like on the same block.
And so then I was like, okay, boom, boom.
And then I was like, oh yeah, I was at this bar right after that.
And they had my ID.
So I was able to do it that way.
Well, that's good.
It's possible.
Yeah, it is possible.
So you don't remember your date, really?
You think you messed up because you got blacked out?
Yeah, yeah.
And I've only blacked out a couple times in my life.
But this was also, like, my first date since I broke up with my ex.
Oh.
So, you know, like I said, I was kind of nervous, but I honestly didn't think that just like a few margaritas would like take me out like that.
I mean, maybe it was just that you were like, you thought you were like a sloppy drunk or whatever.
I mean, a first date, that could be a turnoff if you're, you know, getting hammered like that.
Even if you meant to not get hammered like that, he gonna be like whoa a little bit much that's what i'm thinking is maybe he's just
like not a big drinker and he's under the impression that i am and i'm really not normally
well let's figure it out for you yeah let's do it we'll play a song okay come back and then call him
and see if we can figure out what happened to the rest of your evening okay thank you so much we'll
do it next play a song come back and get your first date follow-up after this.
We're in the middle of your first date follow-up. If you're just joining
us, Elise is on the phone and she
wants us to call a guy named Max.
Max isn't calling her back after they
went out on a date. They went out on a
date, they met up at a bar, and
that's all she remembers.
She got drunk and blacked out and
doesn't really remember the rest of the evening. She woke up
the next morning in her place and hasn't heard from Max since.
She's also tried to reach out to Max's friends that she's found on social media,
and they haven't said anything.
She's pretty much done everything she can to try to track Max down.
We're going to see if we can get him on the phone and find out exactly what happened
because she doesn't even remember the end of her date.
All right, Elise, you ready?
I'm really nervous, but yes, I'm ready.
Okay.
Let's do it.
Here we go.
Hello?
Hi, may I speak to Max, please?
This is Max.
Hey, what's up, Max?
How are you?
This is Jubal from The Jubal Show.
And this is Alex from The Jubal Show.
And this is producer Bennett from The Jubal Show.
And The Jubal Show is a radio show that you can find on your radio or in podcast form
wherever you get your podcasts.
Called The Jubal Show.
All right, what's going on?
We actually got an email about you from somebody who listens to the show.
About me?
Yeah, and so we wanted to call you because we do a segment called The First Date Follow-Up.
It's where if you go on a date with someone and then end up ghosting them,
they can email us to get you on the phone and find out what happened.
And you have been ghosting a woman named Elise.
Oh, damn.
Elise reached out to us because she wants to know why you're not calling her back.
We told her it was a little bit much that she reached out to your friends to try to find why, to try to get a response from you.
But anyway, she reached out to us and now we're on the phone with you because we want to know why you're not calling her back.
Wow. How much time do you have?
If it's that good of a story, we got all day, so go for it.
Okay, so this was literally probably one of the most traumatic nights of my life.
Oh, really?
Like, I'm not going to lie to you.
I'm not going to lie to you.
I don't even want a girlfriend anymore.
I might be gay now.
Like, seriously, might be gay.
What happened?
Buckle up.
You're going to find out.
So the date started off pretty cool.
We had a few margaritas, this taco spot, and she literally went from zero to a thousand in 60 seconds.
In the world.
I mean, she told us that she blacked out, but what did she do?
Oh, okay.
So she's drinking.
She starts talking about her ex and she would not stop.
And then I realized,
Oh,
you're,
you're drunk.
She started talking about her ex.
That's weird.
Jubilee.
You asked her,
she started talking about her ex.
Like what is the odds of that?
Absolutely not.
She said,
we talked to her about the date.
She admitted that she got drunk,
but she couldn't remember the rest of the night.
And I made a joke to her just a little while ago.
And I said, do you think you could have got drunk and talked about your ex?
And she was like, no way.
Completely over him.
No way.
So she actually did that?
Oh, oh, constantly.
Sobbing.
Oh, no.
Yeah, it was that drunk. So when I realized that, I'm like, all
right, I'm going to stop buying her drinks. You know what? Let's do some shots of water.
So then this is what she does. I'm still shocked by this. So I let her know. I'm like, we're going
to let's just get some water. We'll get some sodas, do whatever. She starts crying hysterically
and asks other people at the bar to buy her drink.
What?
This sounds like a fun time, honestly.
So then this guy comes up
because obviously in the Serengeti,
they look for the weak.
And he buys her a drink.
And they suddenly both disappear together like i had no idea where
she went for like an hour that's not cool no way i'm i'm pretty sure she's a guy in the bathroom
did you see her after she left with that dude or went somewhere with them
yeah i saw her like she she showed up she came back you stayed i would have dipped out oh
i needed to see where this was gonna go yeah i'm not that guy i'm not gonna leave like being that
drunk i'm like all right let me let me go and i kept looking around the bathroom just see you
know where she is what's going on so so then she comes back out and i go hey let me let me take
you home she's like would you mind not taking me home Can you just take me to my ex-boyfriend's house?
What?
Oh, my goodness.
The audacity.
This is after hooking up in the bathroom, you think, with a random person who's not you.
Did you do it?
Oh, hell no.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
Did she go or did she stay?
I took her home.
I took her to her house.
I walked her inside.
I helped her roommate get her into bed.
And then I left and never turned back.
Oh, my goodness.
Wow.
This will be something I tell everybody forever.
Yeah.
Most people would have bounced.
It's pretty like it's very gentlemanly of you to stick around and make sure she was safe.
At least that's I mean, that's cool of you to do that, even with all that going on.
And that's why I don't want to do something uncool to you,
but I'm going to do it anyway.
You have to.
And let you know that she's actually on the phone listening
and wants to talk to you.
Oh, shut the hell up.
Sorry.
She is.
Oh, man.
Okay.
Hi, Max.
I'm so embarrassed.
I don't even know what to say i just i feel horrid that's not
me like that's not what i normally do do you remember meeting another guy at the bar and
disappearing with him for a little while that didn't happen i don't know maybe you just speculated
no it did it totally did j Jesus. No, it was awful.
Probably the worst date I've ever had, hands down.
And I've had a date where we found out we were related.
I agree.
It sounds like a complete nightmare.
And I honestly didn't even know I was capable of all of that.
I don't even know what to say.
I mean, saying I apologize for my behavior might be good.
I'm sorry. Yes, I'm so, so sorry that I acted like an ass, and I would never do that again.
I promise you.
Could you please forgive me?
Could you give me another shot maybe
i can forgive you i can't be mad or annoyed forever now i'll officially ask you would you
like to go out with elise on another date we will pay for it you got some things you got to deal
with before stepping back into the dating pool i mean we had a great time texting and that was
awesome and i and i loved getting to know that girl and had that girl
showed up at the date. You're damn right. In a heartbeat, I go out with her again,
but that's not the girl that showed up. Yeah, you're right. I, maybe I'm not ready
to go back out there yet. I don't know. Listen, you're right. You're not ready. And that's okay.
The fact that you are saying that, that's great. That's only going to get better for you. Listen, I like that person. I like you when you're being you. So once you get your head back on and ready to get out there, give me a call or call one of my friends. They'll know how to get a hold of me. I will gladly do that. You're right. I think I just need to take some time.
And when I'm ready, you will be the first person that I reach out to.
How long has it been since you and your ex broke up, the one that you were crying about?
It's been like two months.
Okay.
And how long were you guys together?
We were together for almost two years.
That's a long time.
Yeah, it might take you more than two months to get over that, you know?
Yeah, maybe.
Dip your toes in the dating pool instead of just cannonballing right in right away.
Yeah, I think you guys are right.
I'll definitely work on myself for a little bit.
Yeah, nothing wrong with that.
Yeah, good luck to you both.
Thank you.
