I mean, isn't that what democracy is all about? Check out our new season of Next Question with me, Katie Couric, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Jon Stewart is back in the host chair at The Daily Show, which means he's also back in our ears on The Daily Show, Ears Edition podcast. Join late night legend Jon Stewart and the best news team for today's biggest headlines, exclusive extended interviews and more. Now this is a second term we can all get behind. Listen to The Daily Show, Ears Edition on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. The forces shaping markets and the economy are often hiding behind a blur of numbers. So that's why we created The Big Take from Bloomberg Podcasts, to give you the context you need to make sense of it all. Every day in just 15 minutes, we dive into one global business story that matters.
Starting point is 00:01:21 You'll hear from Bloomberg journalists like Matt Levine. A lot of this meme stock stuff is, I think, embarrassing to the SEC. Follow the Big Take podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen. First day follow-up. I choked on my lasagna.
Starting point is 00:01:40 You okay? Well, I personally didn't choke on my lasagna. But that was the subject of the email that we got from Katrina, who's on the phone right now. That's weird. Because she's not getting a call back. Is that what they call it these days? They choked on lasagna? Oh, maybe that's it.
Starting point is 00:01:54 Yeah. Hey, Katrina. So you went out on a first date and choked on some lasagna, huh? Oh, my God. I promise you it's not a euphemism. Okay. It was literal, but it's very embarrassing. But yes. OK, well, we'll get to that embarrassing moment in just a second. But what's the name of the guy you want to call today?
Starting point is 00:02:14 OK, his name is Devin. Devin. How did you guys end up meeting and where did you guys go for your date? OK, well, we ended up meeting like just through a mutual friend who thought like, hey, I think you two will hit it off. So I was like, great, I'd love to meet him um and we went to this really great Italian place um for dinner so it was like it was very chill um and you know good food good wine you can never go wrong there what kind of Italian place like uh like the pizza yeah or the meatball or Olive Garden oh yeah you know like a classic one or was it Olive Garden no it was a little nicer than Olive Garden. Oh, yeah. You know, like a classic one or was it Olive Garden? No, it was a little nicer than Olive Garden.
Starting point is 00:02:47 So how did the date actually go? Oh, my God. It was great. This is the thing is that I thought we really hit it off. Like he's one of these people who's really, really chill, which I love. Somebody who doesn't take himself too seriously, which I think is so important because, you know, he was able to like joke around and there's nothing worse than when you try to make a joke or, you know, a sarcastic something and the person just stares at you blankly.
Starting point is 00:03:11 So they don't get it and they take everything just literal. Yeah. No, that was a joke. Yeah. Exactly. So so it was great. I know I was just really charmed by him. I thought he was like really funny and sweet and like we had a great conversation.
Starting point is 00:03:27 So I was really surprised that he kind of stopped texting back after the date. You know what I mean? So what was the thing about the lasagna? Okay. So at one moment, I mean, I was excited. I think I might have even been laughing. I can't remember exactly. But I started to almost like choke on a little bit.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Also, listen, I take big bites, okay? I confess. Did he have to give you the Heimlich maneuver or something? No, he didn't, thank God. But I did start to cough, choke a little bit, and I did spit out or cough up a big wad of cheese. That's really embarrassing. I know. And I remember looking up and thinking, please tell me he didn't see that. But, I mean, how could he miss it? He was, you know, right there.
Starting point is 00:04:09 So I don't know if that's it. And he just didn't want to say, like, that disgusted me so much. I never want to see you again. Like, I don't know. How did the date end? Like, was there a kiss at the end? Well, no, because we both, like, took our own, like, rides home. So there was, like was kind of an awkward,
Starting point is 00:04:25 like, are we going to kiss or not sort of thing. Okay. So there was that tension, and then he might have been like, I don't know if I want my mouth to touch that mouth. It just spit out that lasagna. Yeah. Maybe he's like, she's got lasagna mouth.
Starting point is 00:04:38 I don't know. Garlic breath. Yeah. So you guys didn't actually kiss, but you felt the tension of him maybe wanting to kiss you? Totally, because it was kind of a long goodbye. And I was like, is this happening? Is this not going to happen?
Starting point is 00:04:52 And then it kind of ended with a like, well, I'll see you again. And he was like, yes, absolutely. I would love that kind of thing. You know what I mean? And so the day ended. And I'm assuming that you tried to text him maybe or how did that go yes yeah so i texted him well i tried to wait but i couldn't so i texted him like the next day um oh so maybe that's it too maybe he thinks i'm too eager but um and and
Starting point is 00:05:16 then he did text back like we texted for maybe a day or two like back and forth felt normal and then it just kind of stopped i don't i don't think it's the eager thing cause I think the eager thing is actually like a myth. Yeah. If both people are into each other, then you want to hear from the other person. I think so. Definitely.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Right. Okay. But it is weird that he would text with you a little bit and then not, and then just stop. Yeah. Yeah. Like, and I think it was like,
Starting point is 00:05:39 maybe even it was for the rest of the week. Like it was a number of days that we, I was like, okay, this is going really well. Um, and then when I mentioned seeing him again, like then it kind of went cold and it was a number of days that I was like, okay, this is going really well. And then when I mentioned seeing him again, then it kind of went cold
Starting point is 00:05:48 and it was just like no answer, no answer. Okay. Well, yeah, maybe it was the lasagna then. I mean, I doubt it's that, but we'll play a song and then we'll come back and see if we can figure it out for you when we call him, right? Okay, cool. First day follow-up.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Alright, lasagna mouth, cool. First date follow-up. Alright, lasagna mouth, you ready to go? Katrina? Oh, of course. Oh, that's me. Yeah, I got you. Yes, I was talking to you, lasagna mouth. Who else would that be? Anybody else in here think that they're
Starting point is 00:06:19 lasagna mouth? Nope. Nope. It's definitely Katrina on the phone. Katrina emailed us because she went on a date with a dude named Evan, and the reason that we're calling her lasagna mouth? Nope. Nope. It's definitely Katrina on the phone. Katrina emailed us because she went on a date with a dude named Evan. And the reason that we're calling her lasagna mouth is because the only reason she can think he's not calling her back is because they went to an Italian place and she laughed and sucked in a bunch of lasagna and then ended up spitting it out. And she thinks that awkward moment might've caused this dude to not want another date. But the weird thing is they texted back and forth a bunch after,
Starting point is 00:06:46 and then he just went cold. So she doesn't know why, and we don't know why. Nope. So we're going to try to figure it out right now and call him. All right, Katrina, are you ready to go? I am ready. Okay. Hello?
Starting point is 00:07:02 Hi, may I speak to Devin, please? Yeah, this is E. Hey, Devin, how are you? This is Jubal from The Jubal Show. I'm sorry, say again? This is Jubal from The Jubal Show. It's a radio show. With me, as always, is my hot ass wife, Alex Friesch.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Hey. And English Evan. Good morning. No, no, I've heard of you guys, yeah. Oh, you have? Okay, sweet. You ever listen to the show? I might.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Hey, look, I don't listen to a lot of radio, I'll be honest. All right. So maybe someday you'll put it on your sketch. Is that what you're saying? That's what I'm saying. Calling you today because we do a segment on the show called The First Date Follow-Up.
Starting point is 00:07:39 And what that is, is where if you go out on a date with someone and then end up not calling them back, they can email us to call you and figure out what happened. And you recently went on a date with a woman named Katrina. Yep. Okay. And Katrina emailed us and we talked to her.
Starting point is 00:07:58 She told us about your date. She had nothing but nice things to say about you. But she said after you guys went out out you texted for like a week and then you just dropped off the face of the earth so katrina is wondering what the deal is yeah uh okay well i had a great time with katrina uh it was a super fun date great italian food we laughed a lot uh she's really cute I had a great time okay so here's the thing that confuses me Devin
Starting point is 00:08:30 anytime I've been out on a date and I've had a great time I usually don't just stop talking to them yeah if anything I might want to see that person more yeah I might make plans to go out again just like you made plans to listen to this radio show in a few months I might do that to go out again, just like you made plans to listen to this radio show in a few months.
Starting point is 00:08:47 I might do that. Did something happen on the date that you thought about that you didn't like? Nope. It has nothing to do with the date or Katrina. It has everything to do with me. What does that mean? Well, long story short, I am a broke hoe. A what? A what?
Starting point is 00:09:06 A what? What'd you say? I've been there. A broke hoe. A broke hoe. So did that just happen? Yeah, I just got laid off. Oh.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Whatever you want to say. Yeah. Oh, sorry about that. Well, thanks. I'm not the only one these days. But I just figured, you know, after that date with Katrina, she didn't feel like the kind of person that would go for somebody who doesn't have a job or any money. I think she definitely deserves somebody who can, you know,
Starting point is 00:09:35 who's got their life together. So I just, I'm just embarrassed. That's assuming, though, that she wouldn't, I mean, are you ever going to get a job again? I hope so. I hope so. I mean, I'm working on it. Did you have though, that she wouldn't... I mean, are you ever going to get a job again? I hope so. I hope... I mean, I'm working on it, so... Did you have a job when you guys went on the date?
Starting point is 00:09:49 I did, yeah. And that's why I stopped texting her after the date, because I figured, you know, why even bother? Katrina was saying that you guys had, like, a really good time on the date, and after hearing you, you said you had a great time on the date. So, I don't think it's a big deal, honestly. What should I... should I text her? Should I call her?
Starting point is 00:10:08 I don't know. I mean, you could talk to her. Yeah, I think you should talk to her. As a matter of fact, I think you should do it right now because Katrina is actually on the other line listening and wants to talk to you. Oh, okay. Did that just get awkward for you? Yeah, I guess I need to listen to the radio more because I had no idea that's what was going to happen.
Starting point is 00:10:28 Katrina, say hi to Devin. Hi, Devin. Hey. Listen, oh my God, Devin, I'm so sorry. I had no idea, obviously. You didn't tell me. You could have told me that you lost your job like listen you're not I mean so many people have lost their job recently you're not the only one for sure
Starting point is 00:10:51 I appreciate you understanding and I guess I just have never lost a job before and I think I've just been super down on myself and I maybe let that affect the way that I interact with other people. So I'm sorry that I didn't text you. Oh, wow. That's actually really sweet. The fact is that you are ridiculously funny. Remember when you talked on the lasagna? Oh, my gosh. But the way that you played it off, though.
Starting point is 00:11:21 And I don't know, you got everybody laughing around us. So I don't know. I just laughing around us so I don't know I just I've never seen anybody be able to handle that so well and like I told people about it but like in a positive way I don't know like honestly I just like I think that you're really special and you should be with a special guy so that's that's hard that's what I thought. Oh, my God, Devin. Devin, listen, you are a special guy. Like you being special or not has nothing to do with your job, what you do for a living. That's neither here nor there.
Starting point is 00:11:58 It's exactly we had such a good time that night. And I mean, to be honest, I mean, I'd love to, you know, be there for you right now. You know, maybe what you need is to get together and have some laughs. You are an incredibly special person. I've never met anybody who can be such a great listener and not take himself so seriously. I guess you're taking yourself a little too seriously. I was going to say, you said he doesn't take himself seriously, but it sounds like he is right now. Hey, Devin?
Starting point is 00:12:26 Yeah. Would you like to go out with Katrina again on another date? Don't worry. We'll pay for it. I was going to say, yeah, I could use a little help. I mean, yeah, Katrina, if you're serious about what you're saying, would I would love to go on another date with you oh that's sweet yeah
Starting point is 00:12:46 this is a sweet one isn't it this has turned out good Katrina please don't let us down like say yes because yes a thousand yeses
Starting point is 00:12:55 yes yes yes okay I was hoping you'd do that because all of us are invested we're not people who normally get like that involved but all of us are like that's sweet
Starting point is 00:13:02 that's nice and then I picture you coming to me like yeah whatever I don't want to date a jobless idiot anyway. So I coughed on him. Congratulations. Second date. Yes. Thank you so much. Thank you guys. And Katrina, I, to be very clear, I am applying to like three jobs a day.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Well, good, because I am not going to date a bro-co forever. Hey, everyone. It's Katie Couric.
