Every day in just 15 minutes, we dive into one global business story that matters. You'll hear from Bloomberg journalists like Matt Levine. A lot of this meme stock stuff is, I think, embarrassing to the SEC. Follow The Big Take podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen. First day follow-up. All right, you guys remember the other day when I started off the first date follow-up
Starting point is 00:01:53 with a very, very bad cheesy joke? Yeah. You guys actually kind of liked it when I did it. Yeah, it wasn't bad. I got another one for you. Okay. You know, it is October. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:02 And that means Halloween's coming up. Yep. Which is really scary to think about because there's a guy on the phone who got ghosted. God, that was terrible. That was bad. Don't they normally get ghosted? Yeah, they all do. It's just scarier right now.
Starting point is 00:02:16 That was so bad. I apologize to everybody. I apologize to myself. I apologize to the world for that terrible, terrible, terrible. It wasn't that bad. Half joke. Thanks. All right.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Nevermind. Hey, Isaac, what'd joke. Thanks. All right. Never mind. Hey, Isaac, what'd you think about that joke? Amazing or amazing? I mean, I'm just amazed that I got to be a punchline for your show. I'm kind of excited for me. Isaac is on the phone, obviously. And he sent us an email because he went out with a girl named Bailey. That's her name?
Starting point is 00:02:43 Uh-huh. Okay. And how did she ghost you? Okay. So, uh, I mean, we've texted before and all of that, so it's kind of weird to get ghosted now, but we'd been friends a while. And, uh, and when you say friends, like how good of friends do you mean? She used to work with one of my best friends. And I, we've just kind of been around. And I've kind of liked her more than other people since I've gotten to know her better sort of through the friend group.
Starting point is 00:03:16 And so I finally decided to ask her out. What made you finally decide to ask her out if you've liked her for a while? I mean, I don't know. It just kind of feels like one of those years where you just kind of go for it. Right, yeah. Anything can happen. That's true. You're like, hey, couldn't get any weirder.
Starting point is 00:03:32 She might go out with me. Couldn't get any weirder, and it's a year where you need some wins, so you might as well shoot your shot. Yeah. Well, how did she say yes? Yeah, was she like weirded out about it? Or was she like, oh, wow, like this is crazy.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Like, yeah. She said, yeah, sure, When? Basically like asking when. So steamy. Yeah, sure. When? Yeah, sure. When? Straight to the point. How was the actual date? What'd you guys do? So Halloween's coming up, like you said in, in your joke.
Starting point is 00:04:00 Yeah. And, uh, and so one of my favorite places is this corn maze that I've been going to since high school, um, every year. So I was like, okay, this is going to be perfect. Cause I don't think she's been to it.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Uh, and so we go to this corn maze and they're not operating this year. Like, yeah, I think just because of like COVID and social, you didn't check it beforehand. No, I just, it was open every year and I was just kind of excited that she said yes. I mean, when she said, when she asked when, I was like, how about tomorrow?
Starting point is 00:04:34 So I didn't have a lot of planning time. I know it's been open every year, but this would be a year to check. Yeah, this would be the year. Yeah. And by the way, there's probably nothing more attractive than a guy not being able to make plans. Right, Alex? Or just wait till the last minute. New women don't find that sexy?
Starting point is 00:04:51 Okay. All right. Yeah. I don't think she did either. So I'm trying to figure out what to do next. So we go, we're sitting in my car. I'm like Googling if there's any other corn mazes around that are open. And that's taking too long. So I just say, how about we just go back to my place and
Starting point is 00:05:11 watch a scary movie? And she was cool with that. That's good for you because that's a lot more intimate, I feel, than the maze. Well, you've never been to a corn maze then. Keep your corn away from me. It's almost like you planned it Isaac did you I mean it kind of felt like alright if she's
Starting point is 00:05:28 this is working out you know I wasn't gonna offer this on the first date but I'm glad it's working and uh so so we go back
Starting point is 00:05:36 and we're watching the movie and it's cool and what was the movie you guys watched uh we watched Sinister have you guys seen it yes
Starting point is 00:05:44 no that's a really scary. Is it really scary? Okay. Yeah. I don't watch a lot of scary movies. Oh, I love scary. Yeah. I mean, no, it actually was really scary. I'm not going to lie to you guys. But obviously, you know, I was being, being the man for a while. We were watching it and all that. I put my arm around her and she leans into it. So I'm like, I'm in, right? So the movie ends and I kind of didn't know if I should go for the kiss or not. So it's just kind of this like awkward hug. We said goodbye and I thought the whole thing went well and we had a connection, but I keep reaching out to her to see if she'd like to go out again. And I'm just
Starting point is 00:06:22 not hearing anything. So I need you guys. She hasn't talked to you at all since the date, huh? No, I mean, we talked later that night. I called her, and it seemed like things were good, so I felt great about the date, but nothing ever since. Do you think it was because the corn maze was closed and that it just wasn't like a plan, like what you guys planned on doing?
Starting point is 00:06:42 I mean, I didn't think that was an issue because the movie went well, but now I kind of think that's what it was. Okay, so she actually talked to you after the date too and now she's not answering. That's weird. Alright, well, we'll figure out what happened, okay? First date follow-up. I've never liked watching scary movies on dates. Really? No.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Not at all. Right in the middle of a first date follow-up. We'll get to that in just a second. I just feel like it's a bad setup for a date. And I get in my head about it. So Isaac, who's on the phone for a first date follow-up right now, he went out with a girl named Bailey. He had planned to go to a corn maze. The corn maze was closed. He didn't check ahead of time.
Starting point is 00:07:18 So they decided to go back to his place and watch a scary movie. What was the movie again, Isaac? It was Sinister. Sinister, okay. So they watched a scary movie together, was the movie again, Isaac? It was Sinister. Sinister, okay. So they watch a scary movie together, and he thinks everything went fine. They even talked after the date for a little while. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Like right after. But I was going to say, I never liked watching scary movies on dates because if you do want to make a move or something, it's always awkward. Somebody just got murdered, and you're like, I am so turned on right now.
Starting point is 00:07:39 It just gets in my head. I can't do it. I love blood, do you? Yeah, that or really sad documentaries. I don't know. It just feels awkward being like, let's switch real quick. It is. All right, Isaac.
Starting point is 00:07:47 So other than the fact that you messed up the corn maze thing, you don't know why she's not calling you back? Yeah, I thought everything was good after that. And I really want a second chance because I like her a lot. All right, cool. Well, we'll dial her phone number right now, see if we can get her on the phone and find out what happened. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:08:02 Okay. Hello? Hi, may I speak to Bailey, please? This is she. Hey, Bailey. How are you? This is Jubal from The Jubal Show. It's a radio show.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Oh. And with me right now is the entire show, so I'm Jubal. That is my hot ass wife, Alex Frey. Hello. Hi. And over here is English Evan. Good morning. Oh, hello.
Starting point is 00:08:37 So we do a segment on this show called the first date follow up. What that is, is if you go out on a date with someone and then not call them back after, they can email us to get you on the phone and figure out what happened. So you recently went out with someone and aren't calling them back. Do you have a second to talk to us about that, please? I guess. Do you know who we're talking about? I don't want to say in case I get it wrong.
Starting point is 00:08:58 In case you get it wrong. Well, the guy that I'm calling about, his name is Isaac. Isaac? Yes. He emailed you about, his name is Isaac. Isaac? Yes. He emailed you about me. Okay. Correct.
Starting point is 00:09:09 He told us about your date, and he said he really liked you, and he doesn't know why you're not answering any of his phone calls or text messages now. So we're calling to find out why. Can you tell us? I mean, I will say it was fine. I mean, I had a good time You know what I've found Throughout my life
Starting point is 00:09:28 As far as dating goes When a woman describes a date as fine Well anything is fine Usually means it wasn't mind blowing So the date was fine But you're not calling him back So was it him not being prepared Or knowing the corn maze was cancelled
Starting point is 00:09:44 I mean It was more like him not being prepared or knowing the corn maze was canceled or i mean i mean it was it was more like annoying than anything else it wasn't like a big deal because it was just like i mean right now you probably should be checking if everything is open but i'm more laid back than being like oh my god you didn't google ahead of time okay well that's cool that's very patient of you i don't know if a lot of people would feel the same. I mean, if you like him, then you'd probably be patient. Do you like him? I mean, I don't not like him. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:11 So you kind of like him, but you're not returning his phone calls. What's the reason? So we had a good evening. And I mean, I even agreed to watch a scary movie which is not my thing and after the movie ended you know like I was like I probably should go home and I left and went back to my apartment and he called me which I asked him to call me but I didn't think he was going to call me like an hour later so you meant like call me tomorrow or something yeah yeah or like in a couple days yeah like yeah I mean it was like two o'clock in the morning, so I thought, oh my gosh, something's wrong. So I answered, and he was just really scared about the movie. What?
Starting point is 00:10:56 Why are you scared? He was freaking out. He was like, I can't go to sleep. I keep seeing it every time I close my eyes. I really need you to just talk to me until I fall asleep so I don't have any nightmares. Oh, my gosh. Do you think he just wanted to talk to you? Oh, that's a good point.
Starting point is 00:11:16 It might have been that. No, it was not. He wanted me to tell him lullabies. Oh, my God. Wow. Do you know what this reminds me of? It reminds me of as a kid when I would have sleepovers at other friends' houses and I wanted to go home in the middle of the night so I'd call my mom.
Starting point is 00:11:32 Yeah. That's kind of what it sounds like. So you're not calling him back because he's acting like a baby because of a scary movie? I'm not his mommy. If you're scared, call your mom. Tell your mom, I went on a date with this cute girl. I watched a scary movie that I couldn't handle and I need you to help me get a place.
Starting point is 00:11:50 That's really funny. It doesn't make sense to me. It doesn't make sense to me either. He did mention, though, that you guys spoke, but he did leave the pod out where he was scared. Well, yeah, he thought it was a positive. He was like, I even called her later and she answered, but he didn't tell us that he called later because he was...
Starting point is 00:12:02 Yeah, of course he answered. It was 2 o'clock in the morning. Why would he be calling me? Well, there's another reason, which you might have wanted less than to talk him to sleep, but... I mean, it was just weird for me. Yeah, I can understand that. You know what else is weird?
Starting point is 00:12:15 He's actually on the other line listening and wants to talk to you. Oh. Hey, Bailey. Hey, Isaac. So that's the reason why? Uh Yeah It was a scary movie
Starting point is 00:12:34 I'm aware It was a real I didn't know it was going to be that scary Okay but why call her in the middle of the night Asking her like I can't believe you did that. Who better to understand? You just saw the same movie, so you'll get
Starting point is 00:12:51 it. I don't know. Just find some lavender scents and take a unisom. Bailey, I don't actually like scary movies. I just figured you would. Alright. You should ask, hey, what kind of movie would you
Starting point is 00:13:07 like to watch? There's a lot of Halloween themed movies that one can watch without it being a scary movie. We could watch Hocus Pocus. You think I'm going to put on Halloween Town? That would have been a better move. It's not even about the movie. It's about
Starting point is 00:13:23 the fact that you had to call me to comfort you. Well, I'm sorry that I thought I could be honest with you and be emotionally available about being scared. Oh, he pulled the emotionally available card. I love when they do these things.
Starting point is 00:13:38 Way to turn it back around on you. He just pulled the you're being insensitive card on you and that he's a rare man who's emotionally available. How are you going to deal with that, Bailey? Yes. You might say emotionally available. I might just call you a ****. Hey, Bailey, would you like to go out on another date with Isaac?
Starting point is 00:13:58 We'll pay for it. Would you like to go out on another date with Isaac? No. We can watch a different movie. We to go out on another date with Isaac? No. We can watch a different movie. We can go out. I'll make sure it's open. Bailey, I'm sorry. Honestly, I've just really liked you for a while,
Starting point is 00:14:15 so I've been overthinking. Please, can I get one more chance? Bailey, are you there? I'm there. I'm here. I'm thinking. I'm thinking. I'm thinking. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:14:25 Okay. That was a lot of time. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. You must have had a lot of call. I was like, I thought you just hung up. Like, I'm done with this conversation. Doing the dramatic pause.
Starting point is 00:14:32 Yeah. What do you think, Bailey? Give him one more shot. I don't really see this going anywhere, and I will tell you that up front. So if you let me take everything that we do, we can go out one more time. Okay. Oh. So one more time, knowing that it's probably not going to work. Isaac, you cool with that? front. So if you let me take everything that we do, we can go out one more time. Okay. So one more time, knowing that's probably not going to work. Isaac, you cool with that?
Starting point is 00:14:49 Okay. Look, I know where you stand and here we go. At least she's being up front. That's true. You know, not leading you on. Yeah. Yeah, no, that's fair. I'll take what I can get. All right, man. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:15:00 Good luck. I know this is going to be scary going forward, but you can always call us if you need someone to talk to. Well, there is a sinister two. So me and you can watch that. Stay away from that. Hey, everyone. It's Katie Couric. Well, the election is in the homestretch right in time for a new season of my podcast. Next Question.
