Ugh, we're so done with New Year, New You.
This year, it's more you on Bumble.
More of you shamelessly sending playlists, especially that one filled with show tunes.
More of you finding Gemini's because you know you always like them.
More of you dating with intention because you know what you want.
And you know what? We love that for you.
Someone else will too.
Be more you this year and find them on Bumble.
Consider this is a daily news podcast, and lately, the news is about a big question.

They want change.
What will change look like for energy?
Drill, baby, drill.

Hey, everyone.
It's Katie Couric.
Well, the election is in the homestretch, right in time for a new season of
my podcast, Next Question. I'm bringing in some FOKs, friends of Katie's, to help me out, like
Ezra Klein, Jen Psaki, Astead Herndon. But we're also going to have some fun, thanks to some of my
friends like Samantha Bee and Charlemagne the God. We're going to take some viewer questions as well.
I mean, isn't that what democracy is all about?

First date follow-up.
There's not much worse than a first date that doesn't happen.
Oh, you could have stopped at first date.
Yeah, first dates are always awkward, but they're even more awkward First date that doesn't happen. Oh, you could have stopped at first date. Yeah.
First dates are always awkward, but they're even more awkward when you don't go out on the date.
You miss it or the person that you're supposed to meet stands you up.
Oh, yeah.
And then you sit in a restaurant by yourself, which apparently happened to Brett, who's on the phone with us right now.
Brett, how you doing, man?
What's up, guys?
Doing all right.
Yeah.
How are you? I mean, I've? Doing all right. Yeah. How are
you? I mean, I've been better. Yeah. Yeah. Sounds like it. So you sent us an email saying that you
got stood up for a first date. Yes, I did. Okay. So where did you guys meet? Yeah, we were supposed
to actually met her on the internet. And we set up a date to go out to a restaurant and I mean, she just
no showed up. What do you mean she didn't show up? Yeah, she just didn't show up. I literally
ended up having dinner by myself. I was at the restaurant for two hours. I tried to text her multiple times and there was no response.
Oh my God.
Wow.
Yeah, it was kind of heartbreaking.
Wow. So were you just like movie style, just sitting there waiting for her and she never
turned up?
Yes, exactly. I ended up even like having dinner by myself. I had a couple of drinks
and yeah, I texted her like three or four times, like, you know, what's going on? Like,
you know, and she just never responded.
So why do you think she stood you up?
I don't know.
I mean, I thought like, I mean, we did meet online, but I thought we had like hit it off pretty good.
How long were you guys talking before you set up a date?
We were talking for like a month before we set something up.
And I mean, everything was going great.
And like, I just, I am everything was going great and like I just I
I am like mind boggles I have no idea what's going on so you're talking for a month so you
guys pretty much had a relationship aside from going to dinner I guess yeah yes exactly yeah
that's a long time to talk to someone and then for them not to show up yeah you can't think of
any reason that she wouldn't show up for your date and just leave you there?
There was no reason.
And like I said, I texted her a couple times, and then she just didn't even respond either,
which was weird because, like I said, we've been talking for a while.
So just like totally ghosted me.
Maybe she got scared or nervous.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm hoping the like no response thing, though, was kind of weird.
Yeah.
So you texted her.
What did you text her?
Where the F are you?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Pretty much.
I mean, I wasn't like aggressive about it or anything, but I was pretty much like, you
know, I started off with like, Hey, what's up?
You know?
And then like half hour later, what's going on?
You know what happened?
And just, just zero response.
Wow.
Did you ever even see like the three little dots pop up that show that she's typing?
That's funny that you say that
because you literally
took the words out of my mouth
because I didn't even see her
like respond to it
or anything.
So I was kind of worried
something happened, you know?
Well, you said
that you ate there by yourself.
What'd you get to eat?
Was it good at least?
Yeah, I had some calamari
and had a couple drinks
and then I just, you know,
pouted my way home
pretty much after that.
Did your waiter feel bad for you?
Yeah, yes, for sure.
Because as soon as I got there too, I was like,
I'm meeting somebody and then it's like, you know,
a couple hours go by and there's nobody
there. I was getting looks from the wait
staff for sure. Oh yeah.
At least you had a good time, I guess. Yeah. I've worked
as a server before and when someone gets stood up,
everybody's talking about it. Oh, really?
Yeah, like this one time I had this table come in this dude sitting in the booth for two and sat there
by himself for like three hours oh god ordering a drink every once in a while water some fries
as an appetizer the funny part is though when someone gets stood up like that in a restaurant
all the women servers all the female servers are like oh that's so sad and all the dude servers
are in the back like look at this jump. It's funny.
Sorry that probably doesn't make you feel
better but everybody
was like look at
this dude.
Yeah man I could
tell that they were
looking at me.
It was awkward so
it's like yeah that's
why I called in.
I'm just you know
trying to figure out
what's going on.
All right well we'll
try to figure it out
for you.
Play a song, come
back and then get
your first date follow
up right after this
okay?
Thanks guys.
All right man.
It's the Jubal Show.
You guys ever go to dinner by yourself?
Yeah.
Oh, you haven't?
No, I don't.
You know, some people like going to dinner by themselves.
Some people go to dinner by themselves because their date stood them up,
like Brett, who's on the phone with us right now.
And Brett wants us to call...
Hey, what's her name, by the way?
I don't think I got her name from you.
Miley.
Miley.
Brett wants us to call Miley because they had apparently met
online and talked for about a month,
set up a date to meet for dinner.
He showed up to the restaurant. She never
showed up. So he sat there,
ate some calamari while the wait staff made fun of him
and texted her a few
times, but he has not heard anything from her and
he's wondering
what happened and why she stood him up.
So we're about to call her and see if we can figure it out for you.
Are you ready to go, Brett?
I am.
All right.
Well, here we go.
Dial the phone number right now.
Hello?
Hi, may I speak to Miley, please?
This is Miley.
Miley, how are you?
This is Jubal from The Jubal Show.
I'm sorry, who is this?
Jubal from The Jubal Show.
It's a radio show.
Have you heard of it?
Oh, admittedly, I have not.
Hi.
With me is me.
My name is Jubal.
Mahara's wife, Alex Freyes.
Hi.
And English Evan.
Hello.
Hi.
We do a segment on our show where if you go out on a date with someone and then not call them back after, they can email us to find out what happened.
And we recently got an email about you.
Wait, what?
Yeah.
Well, have you been on any dates lately?
No, I haven't.
Yeah, we know that actually.
So we got an email about you from a guy named Brett who says that you stood him up.
Okay.
That's interesting because I didn't stand him up. Okay. That's interesting
because I
didn't stand him up.
But he emailed you?
Yeah.
He emailed us and said that
you guys had a date planned to go to dinner
and you never showed.
That's why he was texting.
That's so weird.
Did you guys not talk for like a month before he said you guys supposedly had this date?
Yeah, we talked for a month and everything, but our date was planned for this Saturday.
So I thought he was just like drunk texting or something.
So your date was supposed to be coming up?
Yes. So it was just a mix-up of dates?
I don't know, but this explains some of those weird texts I was getting from him last weekend.
What do you mean by weird texts? He was like messaging me, asking me where I was and WTF.
But I was like, why is this guy upset with me?
Like, I didn't understand what was going on.
But you just felt like you shouldn't respond after talking to him for a month?
I just thought it was weird. And I thought he was like drunk or something.
So I was just kind of like, you know what?
This is weird. I'm a little over it So I was just kind of like, you know what? This is weird.
I'm a little over it already.
It was kind of a turnoff.
So I don't even know if I'm going to meet with him this weekend, honestly.
Yeah.
Really?
Well, I should just let him explain it.
Yeah.
Don't you think?
It's good.
Oh, what do you mean?
Well, I mean that Brett is actually on the other line listening and wants to talk to you.
Oh.
What's up, Miley?
Hey.
I mean, this is awkward a little bit.
Getting more.
Yeah, it is.
Brett, I didn't stand you up.
We planned for this Saturday.
Not last Saturday.
What?
Oh.
Well,
man, well, now I feel
really stupid.
I feel stupider than I did before.
How'd you get that messed up, Brett?
I didn't think that I
did. I mean, don't you guys talk about like, oh? I didn't think that I did.
I mean, don't you guys talk about like, oh, I'm excited to meet you tonight or tomorrow night or something or another in a text message beforehand.
Or I'll pick you up.
I'll meet you there.
I don't know.
Nothing?
Yeah, I mean, I guess that is weird. That's why I was like wondering why we weren't texting like that all day long.
And I mean, I guess it all was like,
it all makes sense now.
Yeah.
You know, normally you double check when you're going to go meet up with someone like,
hey, so see you in a little while.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's kind of weird that you wouldn't check in.
Oh man.
I mean, did I totally screw this up?
I mean, are we just not going to see each other now?
I mean, I guess.
Hold on.
I'll just ask for Brett.
Yeah, that's all, Joe.
Yeah, Miley, would you like to go out with Brett again?
We'll pay for another date.
And I'm guessing he'll be better at his schedule.
I don't know.
Maybe we could buy a calendar.
Yeah.
I guess, but it's kind of weird that you would get the date wrong
and then not check or anything.
And call a radio station.
Yeah, that too.
And call a radio station.
You went to the extremes, Brett.
Oh, man.
I went from zero to ten real fast.
Yeah.
I mean, I would hope that you're not, like, usually this absent-minded about meeting and stuff.
I hope this is just, like, a weird weird random occurrence or, you know.
One-off.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, normally I am not like this.
I mean, normally I'm way better with things like this,
so that is why this is really weird for me.
But I really do think you should give me another chance
because I definitely am better, better than this for sure. And I mean, I, I,
I know that we like kind of hit it off and I really do like you. And I just,
you know, I really think we could have fun together.
So it would be awesome if you gave me a second chance.
What do you think Miley?
I mean, I guess we all make mistakes.
And
I mean, it's like a weird time we're living
in, so I get being
kind of distracted.
Yeah, I'll give you another shot,
Brett. Oh, that's nice.
No way. I don't know if I would, honestly.
Well, congratulations, Brett.
You got another... Brett, let me think of my mind.
Brett, you got another date.
Congratulations.
Great.
Thank you, guys.
I appreciate your help, too, by the way.
Yeah, set a bunch of reminders.
Yes.
Notes all around the house.
Could not have turned out anybody.
All that stuff.
Alarms everywhere.
I'm doing that right now.
I'm going to put it on everything in my schedule right now.
Thanks, Miley.
Yeah, for sure.
