Hey, everyone.
It's Katie Couric.
Well, the election is in the homestretch, right in time for a new season of
my podcast, Next Question. I'm bringing in some FOKs, friends of Katie's, to help me out, like
Ezra Klein, Jen Psaki, Astead Herndon. But we're also going to have some fun, thanks to some of my
friends like Samantha Bee and Charlemagne the God. We're going to take some viewer questions as well.
I mean, isn't that what democracy is all about?
Check out our new season of Next Question with me, Katie Couric,
on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
First date follow-up.
Have you ever been in the situation where you started dating somebody new, right?
Yeah.
And they just got out of a relationship,
but then they get back with their ex?
Ew.
No, I've never been in that.
Oh, just me?
I have.
I have.
Yeah.
It always makes you feel bad.
You're like, wow, I was so bad
that they felt like they had to go back there.
To that person.
Yeah, well, Brielle is on the phone with us,
and that's why she thinks
she might not be getting a call back
from this dude named Mo that she's been on a few dates with. Brielle,
how are you? Hey, I'm doing fine. How are you guys? Yeah, not bad. Not too bad. So tell us a
little bit about Moe. Can you say his name without saying it like that, by the way? That must have
been awkward on your date. Hello, Moe. Yeah, no, I just call him Mo like a normal person.
Interesting.
Okay.
Yeah, we met on an app and we went out a couple times.
I thought that both times were really great, you know, like we hit it off, it felt like.
So I'm just, I don't know know i'm really confused right now okay and did
you feel like he was also feeling this i mean well i guess he wasn't no you're not calling you back
now but when you guys the date yeah well during the dates that you went on or date or dates i
don't you said it was more than one yeah we went on two dates and like i mean the conversation
flowed and everything. I saw it.
You know, he kissed me at the end of the second one.
Oh.
So, like, I take that as a sign he's interested.
You know what I mean?
Well, when he kissed you at the end of the second one, did he make an awkward moaning sound?
No.
Okay.
That's a good judge if somebody's really into you. That's what I do with my girlfriend. No. That's a good judge if somebody's really into you.
That's what I do with my girlfriend.
If they're into you, they'll go, hmm.
If that doesn't happen.
Was it like a cheek
kiss? Was it a lip kiss? Was it a French kiss?
It was an Australian kiss.
Australian.
It was just like, you know,
a French kiss down under.
Oh, wow. I was waiting for it
I was wondering if Evan would get it
I was just like smiling, laughing
No Australian kiss
Not yet
Just a very typical
Standard American kiss, I would say
Okay And I really want to say something right now I just want to say Just a very typical, standard American kiss, I would say. Okay.
Okay.
And I really want to say something right now.
I just want to say, so now you're not hearing from Moe, no Moe.
Yes.
Thank you, English Evan.
I guess you could say that.
Now you're from Moe, no Moe.
All right.
And why do you think that is?
Moe money, Moe problem.
He kissed you after the first or the second date
and how was everything after that i mean i'm not gonna lie i've i've been like racking my brain
trying to see what's up or what happened or this or that the only thing i can think of is that i
know he mentioned he got out of a relationship, um,
like a month or two ago,
I think.
Okay.
And so I don't know.
Sometimes like when guys go and date again,
it's like they realize it's too soon or that they want to go back to their
ex or something like that.
So I don't know.
That's the only thing I can really think of.
So you think he might've just dated you for a minute and then decided to get back with his ex.
That's the only thing? No awkward situation? No?
Yeah. I mean, that was like it, you know, I thought everything else was fine.
And like, I don't know. He just he felt like a breath of fresh air to me just because I just haven't really been out with a genuinely nice, good guy in
a while.
So I don't know.
It's kind of upsetting right now.
I'm not going to lie.
Okay.
Well, we'll play a song, come back, and then we'll see if we can get the breath of fresh
air on the phone and ask him why he's not calling you back.
Okay?
All right.
All right.
Hold on.
We'll do it next.
It's the Jubal Show.
If you're just tuning in for today's first date follow-up,
Brielle is on the phone and she went out on a couple
dates with a guy named Mo.
Mo. And Mo isn't around
any Mo.
Yeah. And
Brielle wants Mo
Mo.
We can do this all day long.
We can. But she wants to go out with Mo again. Mo's not calling her back all day long. We can.
But she wants to go out with Mo again.
Mo's not calling her back.
She doesn't know why.
They went out on two dates.
She thought everything was going fine.
Mo even kissed her at the end of the second date.
And now he just disappeared.
She does know that he got out of a relationship about a month before they started going out.
So maybe he went back to his ex.
And that's why he's not around anymore.
All right.
So I'm going to stop doing that because I'm going to keep doing that.
I like that joke.
Yeah.
It's like a super troopers, right?
Meow.
Oh yeah.
We should try and see how many times you can do it to Mo.
Right.
Well, a Mo joke to Mo?
Yeah.
Okay, cool.
All right. We're going to see how many times we can do a Mo joke to Mo.
Do you think he'll notice?
Brielle, you went out with Mo in a couple of days.
Do you think Mo will notice if we're doing Mo jokes while we try to find out why he's not calling you back?
I mean, I don't know. I didn't make
any Mo jokes. I didn't even think about it,
to be honest. Yes, he'll notice.
Yeah,
he probably will notice. Okay, but anyway, we'll see if we
can figure out why he's not calling you back. I'm going to dial his phone number
right now. Are you ready?
Yep, I am. Alright, here we Mo.
See? I did it. Hello? Hi, may I speak to Moe, please? This is Moe.
Moe, how you doing?
We don't Moe each other.
My name is Jubal from the radio show The Jubal Show.
My name is Alex.
My name's Evan.
And who is this?
Oh, it's a radio show.
Yeah, The Jubal Show.
The Jubal Show.
One more time.
One more time?
One more time.
Okay, it's The Jubal Show.
It's a radio show, Moe. That's Jubal. I'm Jubal. And I'm Alex.? One more time. Okay, it's the Jubal show. It's a radio show, Mo.
That's Jubal.
I'm Jubal.
And I'm Alex.
And I'm Evan.
Okay.
So, have you heard of the Jubal show before?
Mo?
No.
What was that, Mo?
No.
No.
Okay, would you like more information?
Would you like more information about why we're calling? Yeah, I think. Are you guys saying, are you saying more information? Would you like more information about why we're calling?
Yeah, I think, are you guys saying, are you saying my name?
Huh?
Yeah, no, I said your name.
Do you not want us to do that?
No more?
I feel like you're saying my name, because I've heard them all.
I don't know what you're talking about.
I don't know what you're talking about. The mojo, some you're talking about. Give me the mojo, something like emojis,
slow motion.
I've heard of all.
He doesn't want you doing no more.
All right, Mo.
We'll stop doing that.
Did it entertain you a little bit?
Yeah.
No.
So why are you guys calling me?
Calling you not just to do
really bad Mo jokes to you, Mo.
We're calling you because
we do a segment on the show
where if you go out
on a date with someone and then don't call
them after or ghost them, they can
email us to get you on the phone and find out what
happened. And you recently went out
with somebody named Brielle.
Brielle.
Did she tell you to
call me? Yes. Well, she asked us to
call you because she doesn't understand why
you... Ghosted
her. Yes. Thank you. I'm sorry. This is just weird. I don't know call you because she doesn't understand why you um ghosted her yes thank you
i this is i'm sorry this is just weird like i don't know like i'm supposed to tell you why i
didn't call her back well i mean she wants to know she reached out to us to see if we could
reach out to you and find out why so as much as it's weird like she's willing to hear whatever
it is yeah is there a reason she knows that there could be something that, you know. Oh, she knows, Mo. Yeah. Yeah. You mind telling us? Yeah. No, I'm just, I don't mean,
I'm sorry. I'm just a little taken aback by this. I don't, she's, she was nice. She's a nice person.
She talked about work like constantly. Okay. And I'm all about, no, well, that's all she does.
Like, it was literally every minute, it was a different thing about work.
I'm fine with having some conversation about how did your day go or something like that. But she was telling me things that I didn't even, I mean, no offense, but I didn't even care to know.
Like, I don't care about the person that sits in the cubicle away from you or your boss did something.
Like, I don't, it was just, for two dates,
it was just constant just about her work.
That is kind of weird.
Yeah.
So that, that's, and that.
Usually that's not it, like, after you guys are together
and you guys are just bitching about work.
Right.
When you get home.
You know, I'm not trying to be rude,
but, like, that was just all that she talked about
and it just got, it just got, you know, old after a while.
Well, that's fair enough.
I guess, you know, some things don't, people don't like.
So how come you just didn't let her know though? Like, Hey, I'm just not interested. I'm sorry.
You know?
No, you're, you're right. I mean, I could have, I don't know. I guess part of me is just too,
too much of a coward to do it, I guess. I was just, it was just two dates. I figured what,
what, you know, whatever. It's just move along.
Well, the fact that you said you feel like a coward means that you carry
some shame about that
and I would like to help you
get that off of your chest
and get rid of that shame
by telling her
to her face
or on the phone
the reason that you're not
talking to her
because she's actually
on the line listening
and wants to talk to you.
Hi.
Hello, Gabriel.
I don't really know
what to say right now.
I mean, I wish you just kind of told me that, you know, like, obviously, yeah, I was talking about work because I just come from there.
Both dates and like it's our busy season and everything.
But I mean, I have a life outside of it.
Like, I don't know.
Maybe you just didn't ask about that.
I mean, I tried to, you know, steer the conversation to, like, other things,
like your hobbies or family and stuff like that.
But it just kept circling back to something.
You would have something about work that would tie to it every time.
I don't know.
The first time, like, I'm not going to lie, the day,
like, it distracted me because I did have a busy day at work. And like, I did have
a lot of different calls. And like, my managers were just honestly getting on to me. And then
the second day, like, I don't know, that was great, too. It was a really good distraction.
But again, I had just come from a client meeting. And like, he was just kind of going off at me.
And like, I didn't really know what to do
or what to say and then like I had to tell the person who sits in my cubicle next to me because
like I didn't know what to do so I mean like what do you want me to do so Mo kind of kind of sounds
like she does talk a lot about work so well it sound like, because you just did. I don't know if you realize that or not.
It may be a subconscious thing.
You may have work on your brain,
and that's just, I didn't want to,
I figured I would rather go ahead and stop now
than get into something,
and then that'd be something that I'd hold against you.
So as long as we're just a couple of dates in,
and if that's just what you do, that's what you do.
It's like the kindest way to let someone down.
Mo, wouldn't you like to find out for sure?
Would you like to go on another date with Brielle?
We will pay for it if she doesn't have to work.
So if that's the deal, then Brielle, if you want to go on another date,
I'm down for it.
I just, maybe you can be, so now that we know all the cards on the table,
I just feel like you talk a lot about work.
So if maybe you could leave that stuff, there's,'s you know nothing wrong with a sentence or two or something but let's talk about things other than your work right yeah yes you know what
i i am with you i think that now that we have this open communication oh and we look at you guys
like we i think i i would just rather you tell me if something like this happens
but I agree I think that
we did have fun and I would
like to just give it another shot
and I will not talk
about work
the only thing
I do have to tell one of my coworkers because I did
tell her about you
stop it
I hope you're joking right now.
Congratulations, you guys.
You got a second date, Brielle.
Congrats, guys.
Have fun.
All right.
Thanks, guys.
