First date follow-up.
We get a ton of emails into the show to do first date follow-ups.
Yeah.
And a lot of the times the emails say things like,
I don't know why they're not calling me back.
They must be gay.
Or I don't know what's wrong with them.
But this is a new one.
Penny, who's on the phone for a first date follow-up today,
thinks that she's not getting a call back because I'm quoting from her email here.
He must have thrown his phone in the ocean.
Oh, no.
Denial.
Yeah.
That's the first time I've heard that one, Penny.
Well, why is he calling me back?
I don't know.
I don't understand.
The only thing you can think of is throwing his phone in the ocean.
Hey, you know, it had to be something so extreme because he seemed so interested in me.
Right, yeah.
It couldn't be you, could it, Penny?
I'm perfect.
All right, Penny, tell us about the guy you want to call today.
What's his name?
His name's Marcus.
Okay, and how did you guys meet?
We met at a bar, actually, watching sports.
Watching the sport.
That's cool.
The all exciting sports with no audience.
But anyway, you know, I think he's really cute.
Now that things are starting to kind of open back up, people are actually meeting in person.
Yeah, it's true.
It's weird, you know?
Yeah, you know, it was for most of this weird time, I had literally like not left my room, you know? Yeah, you know, it was, for most of this weird time,
I had literally, like, not left my room, you know?
Yeah.
And so it was, it was pretty exciting.
I mean, it was a little, like, at first,
I was a little nervous kind of being around people,
but you know what?
It's like riding a bike, you know what I mean?
I would be, I'd be nervous to walk up to a stranger
in a public place and talk to them right now.
I was just going to say we were actually sitting next to each other, so it was much easier.
You know what I mean?
He didn't have to come up to me.
Yeah.
So you guys vibe well?
You know, we had good conversation.
He was very complimentary, which made me feel really good.
That's always nice when you are talking to someone in a bar that you're kind of really good. That's always nice
when you are talking to someone in a bar
that you're kind of hitting on.
That'd be complimentary.
That's what you know full.
Yeah, except some dudes
will try to play up the jerk role
because they think that actually gets women like,
dude, I used to have this friend
that was like,
if you insult a woman's hair in a bar, dude,
like, trust me,
you'll get into this flirty exchange.
So you gotta walk up and give them an insult.
And I'm like,
that was some guy in Hollywood
that made that up
oh wow
yeah girls don't think
that you guys are flirting
or like it's some sweet
flirty exchange
we think that you're an a**hole
yeah I know
and we are
if we're being that way
yeah and I feel like
dudes that do that are
I know
you know
we all have that voice
in our head
when we look in the mirror
anyway
that kind of gives the insult
so it's nice to hear
nice things from a guy
that you think is cute
you always want somebody to be complimentary to you if you're wondering if you can date them or not. So it's nice to hear nice things from a guy that you think is cute.
You always want somebody to be complimentary to you if you're wondering if you can date them or not. So that's nice. So if you guys like hit it off so well, what did you do next? Did you go on
a date? Well, that's what I wanted to do. He asked me if I wanted to go to dinner sometime and I was
like, yeah. Okay. Okay. So he asked, so he asked you if you wanted to go to dinner And did you guys go to dinner?
No, that's when he threw his phone in the ocean Right out of the bar where you guys met
And just chucked his phone in the ocean
Well, I just
I thought I was going to hear from him
The next day at least
And I have not heard from him at all
And how long has it been?
It's been like a week and a half
Yeah, that's a long time.
Some guys will also wait.
You can't call a chick back right away,
dude. Yeah, which is also weird. You gotta wait
a couple days, which is strange too.
But a week and a
half definitely would seem like he
is not going to call you.
Exactly. Do you know if there's any
reason why he wouldn't be texting you or calling you?
No, I'm trying to think about that.
I mean, so we're watching sports, and I was, you know, kind of ripping on his team pretty bad.
Okay.
Well, that's a big no-no in the man world.
Yes, it is.
It was always fun, you know?
It was kind of like a 40 kind of thing, you know?
Well, you know, it depends.
Like, you rip on something once, but if you keep going back to it and do it too much,
especially with some guys in sports, they get so annoyed by that or angry.
It's weird.
If they're super into sports, they're not going to want to be with somebody
who is that against their team probably.
So I kind of was doing it a lot.
Okay.
I mean, maybe seemed a little irritated at one point.
I don't know.
All right.
That's all I can think of.
I'd be surprised if it's that,
but it is weird that he would ask you to dinner and then not call you at all,
not even text you or anything right after you met.
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, we'll play a song,
come back and then call him and get your first date follow up.
Okay.
Okay.
Thank you.
That's coming up right after this.
It's the Jubal show on hits 106.1.
First date follow-up.
Hey Penny.
Yeah.
I think I know what happened to Marcus,
the guy who's not calling you back.
What?
Okay.
So you met in a sports bar.
Conversation was great.
He asked you to dinner.
And then when you emailed us,
you said,
you think he's not calling you back because he threw his phone
in the ocean. That was an obvious joke.
Yeah.
I think maybe he was kidnapped.
Oh, okay.
By pirates. By pirates. Right.
Yeah. From space. I think he
was kidnapped by pirates from space.
Penny.
No?
Yeah, you don't think so. No? I can't say.
Yeah, you don't think so?
No, okay.
All right.
Well, we don't know why he's not calling you back.
Just to refresh everybody's memory, right in the middle of a first date follow-up, Penny is on the phone.
She met this dude, Marcus, at a sports bar.
Drunk up a conversation.
She said they had a great time flirting a bunch.
He asked her to dinner.
She said yes.
And after that, nothing.
Normally, if you get somebody's number in a bar or something, like later on that night, you'll start like a flirty texting.
And he didn't even text you that night, Penny?
Nothing.
Zero.
It's strange not to even say like,
oh, I had a good time.
It was nice to meet you.
Yeah.
The only other thing I could think of was maybe he got cold feet as well.
Or he just might not have liked her.
If he didn't like me, why would he ask me to dinner?
I mean, who knows?
There could be like tons of reasons.
Not ragging on you.
I'm actually more ragging on him because men don't know what they want.
The only thing you can think of is that you ripped on his sports team and he might have gotten mad at that.
Right?
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, I'm going to dial this one right now and see if we can figure it out.
Okay.
Okay.
Here we go.
Hello?
Hi, may I speak to Marcus, please?
This is him.
Who is this?
This is Jubal from The Jubal Show.
What did you say?
Jubal from The Jubal Show. It's a radio program.
Yeah, I've heard of the show before. I'm just trying to figure out why you're calling me.
That's a good question. I don't know why I'm calling you either right now, Marcus.
Yeah, you sound like a detective, Marcus.
Marcus, everybody's here.
Me, my hot ass wife, Alex Freyash.
What's up?
And English Evan.
Hello.
Hey.
You have any idea?
No idea why we're calling.
No clue.
No clue.
Well, have you heard of first date follow-up before?
Oh, yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So you're familiar with that. That's where if you go out on okay okay what
i have a feeling who it might be i don't i don't okay well i don't know marcus i mean who knows who
how many girls you got that you're not calling back uh right at the moment there's just one
well you tell me her name and then I'll tell you if you're right.
Is it Penny?
Yes.
It is Penny.
She wants to know why you ghosted her right after you guys met.
Well, that's... It's hard to explain.
She told us how you guys met, and it sounded like you were interested in her.
I mean, you asked her out to dinner when you met at the bar.
Oh yeah.
The encounter was,
was cool until I asked her to dinner.
Until you asked her to dinner.
Yeah.
So you liked her,
you liked her up until that point.
Yeah.
She,
she was,
I mean,
she's,
she's very,
very pretty.
Uh,
you know,
good conversation.
Uh,
she was,
she was,
uh,
messing with me about my team,
which annoyed me a little bit,
but was also kind of cute because she knew about sports.
Okay, so that didn't bother you?
No, no.
What's your team, by the way?
I'm a Green Bay Packers fan.
Oh, yeah, they suck.
Anyway, but she said that she thought
that's why you didn't call her back.
That's not the reason.
No, no, not at all.
Okay, do you mind telling us what it is then?
Okay, I'm not sure what she told you exactly, but when I asked her out to dinner,
she suggested a restaurant, and I've never heard of it.
So I didn't want to show her I'd never heard of it.
So I waited until I got in the car going home and I looked it up
and it's the most expensive restaurant in town. Okay. Right. Is there more to that story or
that's it? Uh, nope. Uh, that's it. That's, that's the reason. Okay. So you just don't want to like
have a girlfriend who spends a bunch of money maybe? I I mean, it's just there's a lot of implications about that.
I don't know.
It's a red flag, high-maintenance red flag.
Hold on.
What do you mean there's implications about that?
What does that even mean?
Oh, it's just the type of lifestyle which you may expect.
I mean, it's the first date.
That's an anniversary restaurant. That's not a first date. I mean, it's the first date. Like, that's an anniversary restaurant.
That's not a first date restaurant.
Yeah, it's not something I would pick, but.
Yeah, exactly.
Like, who picks the most expensive restaurant on a first date?
Right?
It's definitely like a third date kind of restaurant.
Honestly, probably maybe a 12th date.
I don't know.
It's not a first date.
Once a year type of thing.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, I mean, I can understand you being apprehensive about that,
but to not even call her back, I mean,
you could have seen and engaged if she wanted to go to a different place.
Nope.
I mean, I'm not even going to waste my time.
She suggested the most expensive place,
so obviously she's a gold digger or she, yeah, I don't know what, but I don't want to get involved in that.
Wow.
You don't even know.
She might not know that it's like a super expensive place.
And she might have heard the name before.
Yeah.
She might just expect her dates to take her there all the time.
And that's exactly what I'm assuming and expect from her.
Well, you know a good way to find out, Marcus?
What's that?
We can just ask her because she's actually on the other line
listening and wants to talk to you.
Ah, I forgot about
this part.
Yeah, most people do.
Penny, are you there?
Yes, I've been wanting to talk for so long.
Hi, Marcus.
Just your friendly gold digger
over here.
Oh, boy. Okay, go ahead.
First of all, I totally thought that we had like a joking kind of thing going on,
you know, like you didn't know I was joking when I mentioned the most expensive restaurant in town.
Well, you're saying you were joking.
I was totally joking.
Okay, that adds up now.
Like, once you get to dinner sometime, I'm like, yeah, yeah, totally.
Let's go to s***.
You know, like, of course.
Like, what do you... I mean, yeah, you're playing it playful right now, but I don't believe you.
I think you were serious on that part.
There was no implications of a joke or anything. I thought we had like a running jokey kind of thing going the whole night.
Why did you think I was ragging on your team so much? I was just, we were joking around.
I could tell you weren't joking, you know, just by the way you said it. Also,
you ordered avocado toast in a sports bar. Everyone knows about people who eat avocado toast. I didn't even know
they had avocado toast there.
Marcus, did you say everybody
knows about people who order avocado toast?
That is kind of true.
It has a stigma.
I agree.
LA girls who are on a
diet. Just got Starbucks.
Or those same people want you to take them
to the most expensive restaurant in town on their first date.
I said it as a joke.
Like, how many times do I have to repeat myself?
Sorry.
Marcus convinced me.
That is true.
You did say you were joking about it.
Well, let's just figure this whole thing out then.
Marcus, would you like to go out with Penny on another date?
We will pay for it.
Unless it's that restaurant that she wants to go to, but we'll
pay for it.
No, I'm not convinced that
that was a quote-unquote joke.
So, no. I'm good.
Penny, I guess, you know,
you called up initially wanting another date. Would you like to
go out with Marcus again?
That's a big N-O.
Was that a joke?
No. That one was very f***ing serious. Jubal's First Date Follow-O. Was that a joke? No, that one was very f***ing serious.
Jubal's First Date Follow-Up.
