First date follow-up. There's a woman on the phone for a first date follow-up right now, and if I could describe the first date that she went on,
I would describe it as a 1970s romantic comedy musical featuring John Travolta.
It's oddly specific.
It's very specific, and I say that because her email says she met this guy at a karaoke bar,
and they sang a song from Grease together, which is exactly what I described.
So I don't know how the actual date was, but that's what I picture now in my head.
Her name's Amanit.
Amanit, how are you?
Hi, I'm doing well.
How are you doing?
You said that you met this guy at a karaoke bar.
First of all, before we get into your date, what's his name?
His name is Nathaniel.
Nathaniel.
All right.
And how long has it been since your date with Nathaniel?
Well, it's been a week and a half since our date. A week and a half. All right. and how long has it been since your date with Nathaniel? Well, it's been a week and a half since our date.
A week and a half, all right, that's long.
Been counting down the hours.
So how many times have you tried to reach out to him?
Well, just like a few, not that many.
I mean, I texted him and I didn't hear anything back,
so I texted him one more time and then nothing.
That might not be enough.
That might be the first time I've ever heard not enough.
I would say three times would be appropriate.
But anyway.
Not when a dude's not calling him back.
That's true.
So you're getting ghosted, obviously.
How did you meet him, first of all?
Well, so we met him out.
My girlfriends and I, we went out for a fun night on the town.
And he was out with a group of friends and it was actually
Buddy's bachelor party. And we were out there just as just us three girls just like got all
dressed up and just wanted to have fun. We hadn't seen each other in a while. But so there was a
karaoke bar. It was it was a karaoke bar. And I usually would never do anything like that. But
my friends like pushed me on stage because this guy needed a partner.
And so I got up there and eventually I just did it and I thought it was really fun.
All right.
Yeah.
Your email said that you sang the song from Grease and how'd you do?
Was it good?
Did it bring the house down?
I think so.
I mean, I think it was pretty good.
I liked it.
I think people were like, I mean, laughing.
Yeah. Yes. Okay. And who think people were like Were you guys drunk? Yeah, I, yes.
Okay, and who asked who out like on an official date?
Well after he thanked me and offered to buy me a drink
and so I said, sure why not?
And it was fun, we were chatting like the whole night
we were talking and then he got my number
and texted me and he asked me out on a date
and we went out.
It was really fun. Another fun night.
I thought at least I had fun.
Where did you guys go?
We went to a drive-in movie.
Whoa.
Keeping the seventies theme.
Yeah.
It was like old school.
I liked it.
Okay.
Well,
I mean,
that's cool.
I don't know when the last time I went to a drive-in movie was.
I didn't even know they still existed.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I just had,
I kind of like a crush on him still.
I think he's really cute and he's really polite and, um, I like't know. I just have a crush on him still. I think he's really cute and he's really polite and funny. We laughed a lot and I don't know. I'm just kind of into him.
Why do you think he's not calling you back then? be needy or anything. I just wanted to let him know I had a fun time and then would like to see him again, but then nothing. The only thing that made me feel like he might be a
little bit kind of judgmental is the movie that I picked was, and I really wanted to
see it, was the new Space Jam movie. And I was pumped to see it, but he didn't see it.
Now that I think back, he didn't seem that excited.
The movie that everybody's ripping on right now?
Apparently it's trash, but...
Did you guys do anything in the car?
Kiss? Make out?
We did a little bit.
You kissed, and then how did things end?
That's it, really.
Just a little bit of kissing in the car,
and then I went home.
So the first time that you guys met,
he was drunk, and so were you,
and then you guys went out, and now he's not calling you back.
Yeah,
I'm very confused.
What are you trying to say?
I'm just like,
maybe he just
thought that it was somebody else.
Oh.
Maybe he got confused
or like maybe...
Strobe light honey.
You know.
Strobe light honey.
Big goggles.
Yes.
Yeah,
he might have thought
you looked at someone different,
you know,
beer goggles.
Yeah,
but at least you could text someone
and just tell them
at the least maybe that you're not interested.
And then they would leave you alone and not wonder.
That's true.
If that was the case, though, we would never be doing this segment.
That's true.
That's true.
I am curious to know why.
Because I don't know.
I thought it was fun.
And then maybe I could in the future not do whatever.
I don't know.
We'll see.
I mean, it could be anything under the sun.
Okay. Well, we'll try to figure it out for you. We'll play a song, come back, and
then call him and get your first date follow-up, okay?
Okay. Alright, we'll do it next.
It's the Jubal Show. Ain't nothing but a G-Tang.
That would be my go-to karaoke song.
Really? I think, if I had to do it.
Karaoke song. Alex, what would yours be? Thanks for the info.
It'd probably be a country song. Which one? Mud on the
tires? I mean, that's a possibility.
Wagon wheel? There's just so many that
I could choose from. I don't even know. That's putting me on the spot.
Amanit is on the phone. The reason I ask is because Amanit
met Nathaniel, the guy that she wants to call
for a first date follow-up, at a karaoke
bar. They did karaoke together. He was there
for a bachelor party. He asked
her to do a duet. She did the duet
and then they ended up
going on a date to a drive-in movie and she doesn't know why he's not calling her back. It's
been about a week and a half. She's texted him twice and heard nothing. And when we talked to
her about it just a second ago, she couldn't think of any real reason that he wouldn't call back.
She thought the date went great. So we're about to call him and figure it out. All right, I'm on it.
Are you ready to, you ready for us to call Nathaniel?
Yeah, I am.
All right, well here we go.
Hello?
Hi, is this Nathaniel?
This is he, who might I say is calling.
Nathaniel, you might say that this is Jubal from the Jubal Show calling.
And this is Alex Fresh from the Jubal Show.
And this is English Evan from the Jubal Show.
And the Jubal Show is a radio show.
I don't know if you've heard of it or not.
I have.
I just wasn't expecting a call from the radio station I listen to.
What exactly is this about?
Well, we do a segment on the show called The First Date Follow-Up.
It's where if you go out on a date with someone
and then end up ghosting them,
they can email us to get you on the phone
and go, hey, man, that's weird
that you're not talking to them right now,
so why?
Yeah, okay.
I've heard this a bit before,
so I guess, okay, what is this about?
It's about a date you went on. I think I might know who this is. Is this about I'm on it? okay, what is this about? It's about a date you went on.
I think I might know who this is.
Is this about I'm on it?
Yes, it is.
I didn't think I would wind up here after that date, but...
You know what?
I don't think any of us knew we were going to wind up here,
but here we are.
All right, well, what did she tell you guys exactly?
Well, she told us that she met you at a bar doing some karaoke.
You guys sang a duet together of Grease, Nice Choice.
And then you made plans to go to a drive-in movie.
You went to a drive-in movie, and everything from her perspective was great.
And you even kissed a little bit.
And then after that, that's the last time you talked to her,
and you haven't responded to her texts or phone calls since and so she's wondering why okay so she basically sounds
like she told you everything except for the reason why i'm not calling her back you know
the date went great i was having a really good time i actually asked her out for a second date
because i thought things were going great i wanted to see her again but when i asked her out for a second date because I thought things were going great. I wanted to see her again. But when I asked her out for a second date, she didn't say yes. She said,
I would love to. I just have to ask my parents first.
What?
When she said that, I said, how old are you? And she said, 26. And I was like, well, why
you're 26 years old? Why do you have to ask your parents permission
with who you're going out? And she kind of like tiptoed around and she's like, Oh, I just like
to let them know what's going on and get their opinions and everything. Regardless, it was just
very weird. It immediately turned me off. It's like, well, what else do you need to get permission
for your parents for if like i want to
spend the night at your place or you spend the night at my place you don't have to ask them
permission for that like did you ask them permission to take us to see space jam imagine
what your in-law experience would be like oh dude they'd be all up in your business all the time
yeah normally i don't think that far ahead but now like when she's asking permission for a second
date i'm just like okay i don't i'm out i'm but now when she's asking permission for a second date, I'm just like, okay, I'm out.
I'm just, you know, just sort of like cards on the table, fold.
I'm going to go home.
I'm not good with poker analogies, but I get what you mean.
I'm surprised that the parents weren't on the first date with us as chaperones.
That would have been the final stroll.
You guys are sitting in the back seat.
They drive you to the drive-in movie.
That'd be amazing.
Yeah, I don't know.
Maybe for our next day a week
they can drop us off
at the mall or something.
I'd rather just,
you know,
be with someone
who acts like,
yes,
I'd rather just be
with someone who acts
like they're their age.
And, you know,
I'm close with my parents,
but I'm not calling them up
being like,
hey, mom,
what did this girl
I met on Tinder,
what do you think about her?
And my mom's like, oh, that's a total seven smoke show.
You should bang her.
It's a weird thing, you know?
All right, well, thank you for telling us that.
That's interesting.
I would like to know why she's 26
and still asks her parents for permission
to go on dates and do things.
Wouldn't you, Nathaniel?
Wouldn't you like to know why?
Are you about to bring her on?
Well, she's already on, actually. Yeah, she's already on
and wants to talk to you and has been listening
and you are smart, Nathaniel.
I kind of forgot about
that.
I'm on it.
Yeah.
You're on with Nathaniel now.
Hi, Nathaniel.
Hi.
Sorry I didn't text you and let you know the reason,
but at least now you know.
Well,
I don't know.
Right now with my situation,
I mean, I have to.
I have to ask my parents.
What do you mean you have to ask them?
Why do you need your... you're not a kid anymore.
You're an adult.
You can make your own decisions.
You don't need to ask mommy and daddy to hold your hand for everything you do.
Yeah, I guess I don't, I don't really have a choice and it kind of sucks, but I mean,
that's what it is right now.
So why is that what it is right now?
Like what's, are you like weirdly Christian or something?
I'm just very confused as to why you as an adult woman need to ask your adult parents permission to see another adult man.
Are you Amish?
Like, what's going on here?
I'm not Amish.
And I don't know that they just it's always been that way.
And they said it's their house, their rules.
And until I move out and they want to know where I'm at and what I'm doing.
You could just say, hey, I'm going out with a guy.
You don't need to say, hey, am I allowed to go out with a guy?
Do you at least understand why it's weird for me and why I'd be turned off by it?
Especially like, I have not asked him to like,
go hook up with you while your parents are in the other room. It's just you are going to go out with somebody like you have to ask permission to go to the bathroom in the house. Like what's
going on in that situation? No, I guess they're just a little bit like strict about some things.
And I really liked you. And I, I would like to see you again.
And I mean, unfortunately, that's my situation right now, but I wouldn't be opposed to, you
know, like not telling my parents where I was going and seeing you again.
Whoa.
You're willing to break curfew?
Yeah.
Wow.
Well, in the past year, I mean, I've gone on on dates with people but i haven't really found
anyone that i liked but you're different i would definitely i would totally break my mom and dad's
rules for you wow i mean look i you were great you really are it's just the situation is a little
weird for me i don't feel like dating someone that's not made me feel like i'm back in high
school again so if you wind up moving out maybe hit me up but until then sorry that's not made me feel like I'm back in high school again. So if you wind up moving out, maybe hit me up.
But until then, sorry, that's a no from me, dog.
Oh, man.
All right.
Well, I'm on it.
I'm sorry we couldn't get you another date.
Oh, really?
Are you sure?
Because I don't know.
I think it'd be really fun and it'd be a good time.
My answer is no.
And just take it, please.
Like, if you keep hitting me up,
I might have to tell your mom and dad
what you're doing behind their back.
Love it.
