Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an iHeart Podcast. I'm Andrea Gunning, host of the podcast, Betrayal. Police Lieutenant Joel Kern used his badge to fool everyone. Most of all, his wife, Caroline. He texted, I've ruined our lives. You're going to want to divorce me. How far would he go to cover up what he'd done? The fact that you lied is absolutely horrific and quite frankly I question how many other women are out there that may bring forward allegations in the future. Listen to Betrayal on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So in the last month, the Midas Touch Network beat Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens,
Starting point is 00:01:16 Charlie Kirk, and Ben Shapiro all combined. What happens when three brothers take on right-wing media and start winning? I find out on the latest episode of Next Question with me, Katie Couric. We just want people to live their lives and be happy and be able to enjoy it without some, you know, lunatics screaming in their face every three seconds. Listen to Next Question with me, Katie Couric,

Madison and dragging messy stories out of guests like the one and only Katya. Oh, I can't wait to get messy with you. Listen to Tell Me Something Messy on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. First date follow-up powered by the Advocates Injury Attorneys online at AdvocatesLlaw.com. Cam is on the phone today for a first date follow up and he's getting ghosted by
Starting point is 00:02:29 a woman named Elena. They went on a date and now he's hearing nothing. So we're going to try to get her on the phone in a minute and see why she's ghosting him and maybe get him another date. But before that cam, how long has it been since you heard from Elena? It's been about four days. How did you meet Elena? So we actually met at the grocery store. Check out mine.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Oh, cool. That's like a Hallmark movie. How'd that work? No, the Hallmark movie. That's perfect. That's well, that's what I was so I saw her. I thought she was extremely pretty.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Said hi. And then, you know, I ended up following her out to her car. We were chatting just a bit and I got her number and she was extremely pretty but high and then you know I ended up following her out to the her car we were chatting just a bit and I got her number and she was like totally into it it was really she's like so cute you know we were like flirting and talking to each other and and exchange numbers so I thought it was going really well and I didn't expect that at all so I was thinking you know for our first date I I was like, oh man, this would be funny and kind of cute. Like let's meet at the grocery store parking lot and like have like an outdoor picnic in
Starting point is 00:03:34 the back of my truck. You know, and I brought like pillows and blankets and I had like pizzas and wine and 50 cups. Who are you? You know, we're in the grocery store parking lot. I think that'll be really cute. It almost gave me that whole starring boring kind of vibe, you know? Yeah, I just sort of felt like, I don't know, the only thing I can say is like felt like really meant to be.
Starting point is 00:03:58 And so I know it's only been four days, but, you know, it went really well. And we were talking a lot afterwards and texting, you know, like went really well. And we were talking a lot afterwards and texting, you know, that like texting a lot between each other. And all of a sudden, it just communication stops. I'm thinking like, what's what happened? It seems bigger to me
Starting point is 00:04:14 because it was going so good, you know? So I really would like to find out. You were texting after your date and everything. Yeah, I know she hit me up and said good night. I said good night. We were like that entire next day, like all day,
Starting point is 00:04:27 we were just texting back and forth. It was just, it was just wonderful. And I was going, oh my God, this is like, this is like romantic dream come true. You know what I mean? Like what is going on here? And then it just stopped. So I'm just a little worried.
Starting point is 00:04:41 I don't know why I did just, I'm just in the dark a bit. And I'm like, why would she respond to any of my texts? I'm hoping that y'all can help me get in touch with her and maybe she'll let me know what's going on. Maybe it's just she got busy or something or who knows? That's my hope anyway. Well, if you think back on the date, was there any moment, I guess, if she was talking to you the day after, or maybe she was being polite talking to you the day after and then knew she was going to go to you and then maybe she was being polite, talking to you the day after and then knew she was gonna ghost you
Starting point is 00:05:05 and then if something happened on the date. Like is there anything that you can think of that would have been weird? Nothing, I mean honestly, honestly, I can't think of anything. I mean we weren't just talking to be polite. We were talking about meeting again and how wonderful the night was
Starting point is 00:05:21 and yeah, that's not a person you just turn to be nice. Anything you can think of that would be a reason she'd be ghosting you. I mean, honestly, I I have no idea. I swear, I don't know. I mean, what did he romantic issue thought in the parking lot? But I mean, maybe you should look back and, I don't know, talk to a friend or something. They thought it was corny.
Starting point is 00:05:43 That type seems to seems smart and independent. Like, she can think for herself. So I'm just boggled. I mean, maybe she had another relationship or something and it was more serious than I would just like to know that. Okay. If that's the case. Yeah, maybe.
Starting point is 00:05:59 All right, we'll play a song, come back and then call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting you and maybe get you another date, okay? Yeah, that'd be great. Thank you. Play a song, come back, get your first day follow-up next. I'm Andrea Gunning, host of the podcast Betrayal. Police Lieutenant Joel Kern used his badge to fool everyone. Most of all, his wife Caroline.
Starting point is 00:06:20 He texted, I've ruined our lives. You're going to want to divorce me. Caroline's husband was living another life behind the scenes. He betrayed his oath to his family and to his community. She said you left bruises, pulled her hair, that type of thing. No. How far would Joel go to cover up what he'd done? You're unable to keep track of all your lies, and quite frankly, I question how many other women may bring forward allegations in the future. This season of Betrayal investigates one officer's decades of deception. Lies that left those closest to him questioning everything they thought they knew.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Listen to Betrayal on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. DNA test proves he is not the father. Now I'm taking the inheritance. Wait a minute, John, who's not the father? Well, Sam, luckily it's your not the father week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon. This author writes, my father-in-law is trying to steal the family fortune
Starting point is 00:07:21 worth millions from my son, even though it was promised to us. Now I find out he's trying to give it to his irresponsible son instead, but I have DNA proof that could get the money back. Hold up, so what are they gonna do to get those millions back? That's so unfair.
Starting point is 00:07:34 Well, the author writes that her husband found out the truth from a DNA test they were gifted two years ago. Scandalous. But the kids kept their mom's secret that whole time. Oh my God. And the real kicker, the author wants to reveal this terrible secret, even if that means destroying her husband's family in the process. So do they get the millions of dollars back or does she keep the family's terrible secret?
Starting point is 00:07:55 Well, to hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the iHeart ReadyWAP Apple Podcast, wherever you get your podcasts. So in the last month, the Midas Touch Network beat Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Charlie Kirk and Ben Shapiro all combined. Conservative podcasts can have a major political impact, but the Mycelis brothers, three siblings with a serious media strategy, are building an alternative to that. On the latest episode of Next Question with Katie Couric, I sat down with the brothers behind the Midas Touch Network
Starting point is 00:08:27 to talk about how they built a progressive media powerhouse from the ground up, why audience interaction is the key to political influence, and what it takes to fight disinformation at scale, one download at a time. We should be focusing on the issues that actually occupy a lot of the mental space in Americans' minds but are filled with conspiracies and we should fill it with the truth and solutions.
Starting point is 00:08:53 Listen to Next Question with me, Katie Couric on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You know who it is, Brandon Kyle Goodman. But this Pride Month, call me Messy Mother. On my podcast, Tell Me Something Messy, I'm diving into all the juicy stories and sizzling hot tea that'll make you want to live your life liberated and free. Nothing is off the table for our messy geekies, be it cringy dates, best sex practices, family drama or cultivating self-love.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Plus, I'll be joined by star-studded guests like T.S. Madison. How can we not judge ourselves? You just gotta tell yourself, like, girl, how old are you, bitch? And I love me a lot because I'm... Oh, you do? Bitch, I love these motherfucking back rolls.
Starting point is 00:09:40 What are these? Back rolls. Back rolls? And dragging messy stories out of guests like the one and only Katya. What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these?
Starting point is 00:09:49 What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these?
Starting point is 00:09:57 What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? What are these? Second, it's like my little secret. TMI, please tell me more.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Every week we'll create a compassionate space to share the fullness of who we are. Oh, I can't wait to get messy with you. Listen to Tell Me Something Messy on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. First date of follow-up. Powered by the Advocates Injury Attorneys. Online at AdvocatesLaw.com. If you're just joining us for today's first date of follow-up, by the advocates injury attorneys online at advocateslaw.com. If you're just joining us for today's first date
Starting point is 00:10:28 follow-up Cam is on the phone and he's getting ghosted by Elena. So we're about to get her on the phone and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him another date. But before we do that Cam, why don't you catch everybody up on your situation? Yeah, I met this beautiful girl named Elena
Starting point is 00:10:42 at the Checkout Line at a grocery store. We had a wonderful date and everything went well and then she just hadn't hit me back and it's been a few days and so I'm hoping that something is still there. And you were texting with her for a while after your date too. It's not like she didn't ghost you right after the date.
Starting point is 00:11:02 Correct, correct. Yeah, we followed up and had tons of medication out the day after and then it just stopped. It could have been her friends rooster blocking and calling it a corny date. Rooster blocking. Yeah. Woo!
Starting point is 00:11:14 Woo! Woo! You said it. You know, maybe one of her friends said it was corny or something like that. I mean, the parking lot or trying to follow a movie or something, but. All right, well, we'll see.
Starting point is 00:11:26 You ready for us to call her? Yes, I'm ready. Let's rock and roll. Here we go. Hello. Hi, is this Elena? Yeah, what's up, Elena? How are you? My name is Jubal and I host a radio
Starting point is 00:11:46 show. It's called The Jubal Show. Hi, Elena. The whole show's here. My name's Nina. Oh, hi, Victoria. How are you? Hi. Hi. Do you ever listen to the show? Yeah, it's just it's kind of it's a little surreal that you're calling me right now.
Starting point is 00:12:03 Isn't it? I feel the same way. What? Jubal just crossed his arms, sat back in his chair, and goes, isn't it? It's crazy. It's crazy how we met this way. Elena, we're calling you because we do a segment on this show called The First Date Follow-Up,
Starting point is 00:12:18 where if you go out on a date with someone and they end up ghosting them, they can email us to get you on the phone and ask what happened and why you're ghosting them. And we got an email about you from a dude named Cam. All right, wow, all right. That doesn't sound very good. No, I mean, I really liked Cam.
Starting point is 00:12:38 I mean, there's nothing, we went on a date, I thought it was really nice. I actually thought it was Probably the most romantic date I've ever had and it felt really like special and the whole night was just kind of very romantic and I honestly thought something was gonna happen with this but um the following night I get a random DM from this girl named Melissa who just basically just like don't speak to my boyfriend ever again, this and that and I'm and I
Starting point is 00:13:14 was like well I don't believe you like how do you and she just sends me a picture of the both of them and it's clearly him and I'm just like I don't I don't want to be a side piece here, I don't. Oh no. I don't wanna be a side piece here, like I don't wanna deal with this and. Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on, hold on, hold on, please. I'm sorry, I didn't wanna cut anybody off, but I have to correct this, please. Elena, that's Cam, he's actually on the phone listening.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Oh my, oh wow. Hi, yeah, no, no, I'm so sorry I had to do it this way, but okay, I'm glad you said that, cause look, Melissa is my ex. Like we have been separated for over a year now. And she's been holding out hope that possibly it still could be reconciled because I haven't been dating.
Starting point is 00:13:57 Because I talked about you and our date to one of my coworkers. And that's probably how she found out that we still work together. But no way, no, we are, I'm a hundred percent single. Like there is nothing there. I totally thought it was the best day I've ever been on too. And I, I don't want to leave that because of this. I mean, it's totally, I swear you can ask my friends, follow up with anything.
Starting point is 00:14:20 We are not together anymore. She is, I don't know what that is. Super spiteful. You said you haven't been with her for a year. No, over a year. Like it has been done. We were together for a few years, like four years and it just didn't work out and it's been over and she just hasn't really moved on. I mean, I showed my friend, uh, my coworker social. I was like, Oh my God, this is magic. Like, and so he saw and he must've said something,
Starting point is 00:14:48 which is crazy. Yeah, like, believe me. And I was like. Just tell her not to reach out to me because like, you know. Now that I know, oh my God. Has she done this before? She has done it one time before, but I thought it was over. Like I was like eight months ago when it was like pressure.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Like I thought she got over by now. If there's nothing that's making her, your ex feel like that there's a real reason to be holding on. I know people are quick to jump to conclusions and be like, Oh, she crazy. But like you, are you sure you're not giving her mixed signals for her to think that she has some type of like, I don't know, say to who you are. No, no, no, we don't, we don't hang out outside. We talk at work.
Starting point is 00:15:31 And so I'll be, I mean, it felt like I've blocked her. I don't have those feelings towards her that way. Yeah. And so, yeah, when she just had, she seemed, we've mentioned in the hallway, like you haven't, you're not anybody yet. I'm like, no, no, no, I'm just waiting for the right moment and dating and, but nothing's set right now. And so I said stuff like that, but it didn't, I never gave her any indication that I want it or back. It just didn't work out.
Starting point is 00:15:55 No, this sounds like I'm just jumping into a whole big mess right now. I don't know. Um, it was a little messy. Really isn't. I, I mean, I can't say it any other way. It's like I've moved on. If she hasn't, it's like, she's still not, she's out of my life though. Like at all. Yeah. But how many times can you like reiterate, say that I'm, Hey, I'm like, we're not together. Does she have snapped tendencies?
Starting point is 00:16:10 Cause honestly, I would be scared of that. She's not crazy. Like, I mean, I swear. I mean, it's like, I hope that all of y'all understand, like sometimes if you have a power to do something, you can't do it. Like, I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it.
Starting point is 00:16:18 I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to of that. She's not crazy. Like, I mean, I swear. I mean, it's like, I hope that all of y'all understand, like sometimes if you
Starting point is 00:16:29 have a path, it's not a path that I want a part of me. I'm, I am moving on. I have moved on. Right. And someone else doesn't determine who I am. I do understand that. I do hope though, that there's something that I don't know you can do to stop her from thinking there's anything there.
Starting point is 00:16:44 Yeah. Yeah. Well, now that knowing this, cause like I said, the first time it happened a long time ago, it was like eight months ago. I know it's fresh and I gave her the benefits out. We talked, but she's still like that. Like I have, I'm definitely gonna confront her and let her know this is uncalled for and like you can't do this anymore. And we're done.
Starting point is 00:17:02 Yeah. And not to contact me. 100%. Like she shouldn't be contacting you, she doesn't know you. I'd block her, Elena. You must be really special if she's still contacting you. All that, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:18 I mean, there's obviously something she can't get over. Elena, would you like to go out with Cam again on another date, we'll pay for it. Give it another chance. Yes. Yeah. I have plenty more movie ideas. I swear.
Starting point is 00:17:30 I'm what's the movie that has the girl holding mace in her purse? Whatever that movie is, make sure you're that one. Jesus. What? I've had my like I was dating somebody whose ex showed up at the foot of the bed, broke into his house when I was there. So I'm telling you, just be safe. What are you doing?
Starting point is 00:17:51 No, no, I'm just saying, she's not violent. She's not crazy like that. Okay, good. Now I'm having second thoughts. I'm not saying that. No, I'm sorry. Go on the date. Good luck.
Starting point is 00:18:02 Would you still want to go out with me again? I'm not saying that. I know. Protect yourself. I'm sorry. Go on the date. Good luck. Would you still want to go out with me again? Oh, wow. What a proposal. Um, yes, but somewhere just, you know, near the police station. Congratulations. Jubal's first date follow up.
Starting point is 00:18:17 DNA test proves he is not the father. Now I'm taking the inheritance. Wait a minute, John. Who's not the father? Well, Sam, luckily it's your not the father.
