Sydney is on the phone
for a first date follow-up
and she's not getting a call back
from a dude named Robert
and they did something crazy
on their date.
Insane.
Went skydiving?
Very risky.
Riskier than skydiving?
Yeah.
This is a high-risk date.
What?
For now.
Because of the pandemic,
movie theaters have been closed for a long time.
They're starting to open up now all over the place.
Most things are opening up.
They went to a real-life movie in a movie theater together.
What? Whoa.
Wow, that had to have felt very crazy.
Adrenaline rush.
Sydney, how was that experience?
Hey, it was kind of weird, but a relief at the same time.
I don't know.
It's just been so long.
All right.
Well, so you said you went out with a guy named Robert. Before we get into everything, just tell us, how did you meet Robert?
Sure.
Yeah.
So we actually knew each other a long time ago.
We met in college.
And it was one of those things where we just kind of reconnected online via Facebook.
Okay. And so he kind of reached out, and just kind of reconnected online via Facebook.
And so he kind of reached out and we've been chatting via messenger for, I don't know, a couple weeks.
When you say reconnected, do you mean that you always thought that he was hot and you wanted to ask him out and then you saw him on Facebook?
You're like, oh, my God.
There he is.
This is Robert.
I definitely always thought he was attractive.
I didn't really think we would ever, I don't know, get along that way, though. But it turns out, like, we have a lot in common.
And the more we chatted, the more I was like, wow, this could really happen.
So, yeah, we talked a lot, got to know each other.
And he asked me if I'd be interested in going on a date.
And I was really into the idea.
He seemed great.
So we went out to the movies.
Well, how did the date go?
Did you guys have fun?
Did he seem into it?
I think he seemed really into me.
And he obviously we couldn't talk a lot during the movie.
But, you know, we held hands and I kind of put my head on his shoulder.
Well, that's cute.
Yeah.
And we had a good chat afterward and we agreed like we would see each other again sometime.
Okay.
And that's the last you heard from him?
Yes.
Did you kiss or anything?
Um, no, but we, I don't know.
It's the first date.
It's always kind of weird.
We hugged and said that we would do it again soon.
So how long has it been since your date?
It's been a week.
And how many times have you tried reaching out to him?
I haven't reached out to him.
He said he, you know, we would do it again.
And so I kind of thought he would reach out.
He usually instigates and I figured, you know.
So neither of you have reached out to each other?
No.
So I wonder if like he thinks you're ghosting him, but you think he's ghosting you.
Yeah, I definitely think he's ghosting me because he
said that he would get in touch, you know, when we could do it again, you know, and I've just
kind of been waiting for him to do that. Maybe he's waiting for you to just be like, Hey, I
enjoy the date. I'm excited to do it again. You know, like people usually text if they're into
each other. Right. And if you're into him, then he probably is thinking the same thing maybe.
But if he did say though, that he's going to reach out and then doesn't, that's kind of weird.
But also it's only been a week. And so if he's trying to see like, maybe she doesn't like me,
I haven't heard from her. Right. Yeah. I feel like a week is a long time.
You don't maybe think that maybe you should try to reach out to him though,
or should have tried to reach out to him? I mean, maybe, but in my experience,
like when I have a date with a guy, they usually reach out to me and or should have tried to reach out to him? I mean maybe but in my experience like
when I have a date with a guy they usually reach out to me and say hey you know let's do this next
thing and they tend to take the initiative in my experience. And traditionally it's like more so
on the man to like reach out if you're in a you know classic relationship I guess.
I think so yeah and he said that he would. So why do you think then that he would
be ghosting you? So yeah, I've been thinking about it a lot after what could it have been.
I realized that day I was in such a panic and I was so nervous. I think I totally forgot to
brush my teeth that day. So maybe my breath was a little bad. Oh, so you think maybe you had bad
breath? Stanky.
I don't know.
Maybe.
That could be it.
You didn't eat fish, did you, before you went?
Garlic?
Thank God, no.
No.
I mean, not brushing your teeth is not ideal.
That's a good thing about COVID, though, wearing masks.
Like, if you think you have bad breath, you can just keep your mask on.
Did you just keep your mask on the whole time?
No.
That would have been a good idea.
But then also, that might have been why you
did not get a call back. She didn't take her mask
off at all. She must hate me.
Alright, well, we'll try to figure it out for you.
We'll play a song and then come back and call
him and get your first date follow-up,
okay?
In the middle of today's first date follow-up, and if you
missed the first part, Sydney is on the phone
and she's not getting a call back from a dude named
Robert. She's not getting a call
back from Robert. They actually knew each other
in college, but then reconnected through Facebook
and decided to do something weird.
Actually go out to a movie
theater and see a movie, because that hasn't
happened in a while, and now that things are opening up,
you can do that. She thought it went great,
except now it's been a week, and he's not
calling her back. The only reason that she can think of was that she was in a rush to head out for the date
and she forgot to brush her teeth, so she might have had stank mouth or yuck mouth.
Whatever kind of mouth you want to call it.
Stank breath.
Nasty breath is the only reason that you can think of, Sydney?
Yeah.
So far, that's the only thing that's crossed my mind.
Everything else is great.
All right.
So everything else seemed great.
Robert said that he would reach out to her to make plans for another date.
He hasn't done that.
She also hasn't tried to contact him.
So both of them could be thinking that they're getting ghosted by the other one.
We have no idea.
And that's why I'm going to just shut up and call Robert right now and see if we can figure it out.
Does that sound like a good idea, Sydney?
That sounds good.
All right, then I'll shut up and call him.
Here we go.
Hello?
Robert, why aren't you calling Sidney back?
What?
What's going on?
Who is this?
Robert, how are you?
This is the Jubal Show.
My name is Jubal.
My name is Alex Fresh.
My name is English Evan.
Robert, why aren't you calling Sidney back?
Yeah.
Okay.
I'm a little confused.
How did you get, how do you know I'm not calling Sidney back?
Because Sidney emailed us.
We do a segment on the show called The First Date Follow-Up.
What that is is if you go out on a date with someone and then ghost them,
they can email us to call you and find out what went wrong.
So I don't know if you listen to the radio show or not, Robert,
and that's not even important right now. No need to explain it.
I don't care.
All I want to know is why aren't you calling Sidney back?
This is super weird, man.
Yeah, nothing personal.
I've been really busy with work.
That's it?
It doesn't sound like that's it.
Yeah.
Usually when people are busy with work, they'll still reach out and go, hey, I'm busy with work.
Yeah.
And also you said you would text Sydney back after your date.
Yeah, I did.
And I've just, I've been slammed.
I've been slammed working every day.
Okay, Robert.
What's the real reason?
Been working my tail off.
But, okay, so neither of you, though, have reached out to each other,
and she wants to know why you haven't actually just even texted her.
Yeah, the reason why it's hard to believe the work thing is because
if you like someone, you go out on a date, even if you are busy,
you might still reach out within a week to say,
hey, how are things going?
Sorry, I haven't reached out yet.
I've been super busy working my tail off at work.
But as soon as this tail's not off anymore and it's on,
then we're on for a date.
That probably would have been better.
But yeah, I just haven't done it.
Been busy, been busy.
I mean, how busy are you that you can't send a text?
Really coming in hot on me there, my English friend.
But yeah, I've been working, working hard.
So yeah, that's all I can tell you.
I wish I had something better for you, but yep, that's the truth.
Does that sound legit to you, Sydney?
No, it doesn't.
Wait, what?
Hey, Robert, that's Sydney. She's actually
on the line listening and wants to talk to you.
And it sounds like she doesn't believe you either.
Oh, man.
Sorry, that just, that
sounds like an excuse to me.
I don't know.
No, I really, I am at a loss here.
I'm telling you the truth.
I've been working.
So, yeah, I wish I had done the I'm busy, I'm working thing.
Didn't do it.
But, yeah, been working.
That's it.
It's the truth.
But you work at Best Buy.
It's not even like a real career
wow
I mean
that was kind of rude
that cut deep
it's an hourly job
Robert I mean you can't find time to text
me you know on a break
you know because you get those
at hourly jobs like it just seems like you could have found time.
Wow.
Okay.
That's cool.
Yes, it's an hourly job, but it's still a job, and it's work,
and I've worked every day since we went on the date.
Long days, long hours.
Yes, the point you're making is correct, but I really do not –
I don't like the tone about what I do for work.
That's kind of messed up.
I'm just telling you the truth.
It's not a job that should really take that much of your time.
Oh, wow.
Do you know what he does at Best Buy, though, Sydney?
I mean, how many jobs are there at Best Buy?
I mean, sales?
Wow.
I have no idea, but, I mean, it's a job and it sounds like dude works hard and he's getting money.
Well, yeah, but like it's not an adult career.
I mean, it is if they want to make it their career.
Yeah.
I still don't feel like it's demanding enough to not be able to send a text.
I agree. I don't care if you're the president. You can still send a text. Yes, you could enough to not be able to send a text. I agree.
Okay, if you're the president, you can still send a text.
Yes, you could.
You still find time to send a text.
You all are not wrong.
Everybody's not wrong that I should have sent a text.
Having said that, the fact that we're downplaying what I do for work, messed up.
Super messed up.
Okay, forget the whole work thing.
We're trying to figure out why, though, you don't want to see her again.
I didn't say I didn't want to see her again.
I just said I've been busy with work, but I definitely
don't want to see her now.
Oh, well, let's hold on. Pump the brakes.
It's only because she just
made that comment about where you work, right?
It's not because of anything she did before?
I thought we did great on the date, Sydney,
but that was before I knew you were a bitch.
Oh!
Wow.
Yeah, and I had fun, too, before I found out you have no ambition in life.
Oh.
Come on, you guys.
Whoa.
It's getting heated.
Wow.
Sydney, you knew I worked at Best Buy before we even went on the date.
I don't know why it's a problem now all of a sudden because you get your feelings hurt because I didn't text you back and you didn't get that gratification right away.
Like, geez.
Well, I just thought that after we were dating a while, you'd actually, you know, grow up and find a real job and maybe also not be a huge ass, which you turned out to be.
So.
All right.
Well, this has been fun.
Oh, no, no.
We're not done yet, Robert. I do have to ask you one more question, and I am so happy for you guys because Sydney,
would you like to go on another date with Robert?
We'll pay for it.
Or Robert, would you like to go on another date with Sydney?
We'll pay for it.
Absolutely not.
No, you need to put her on a date.
Get her another date because she's very needy for some male attention, obviously.
Wow.
I'm going to go back to my garbage job that's not real and keep making money.
Yeah, she should
go on the day. She needs it.
But my break is almost over
from my really hourly job.
So, you know, I've actually, I've got to
go. So, bye, Sydney.
Bye, Felicia.
I'm going to find a man that makes actual money
and has a real job.
Okay. All right. So it's a no.
That went well.
Ugh. We're so done with new year, new you.
