First Date Follow-Up brought to you by Mac and Jack's Brewing Company.
Isaac is on the phone today for a first date follow-up, and he says he met a girl named Aaliyah at the dog grooming salon.
Now, what I don't know, what was unclear to me in his email,
is if he gets his hair done at the dog grooming salon,
which I understand because I've seen poodles and they look really nice.
So I don't know if he was getting his hair done or his dogs.
We'll find that out, and we'll also see if we can find out
why he's not getting a call back from Aaliyah
and what they did on their date in just a second.
Isaac, what's up, man? How are you? Good. How are you? Pretty good. Before I find out if you do your
hair at the dog grooming salon, if you work there or if you have a dog, how long has it been since
you talked to Aaliyah? It's been like a week and a half. A week and a half. Okay. Okay. And how
many times have you tried to reach her?
Every day.
No,
I've tried two or three times.
You'd be surprised how many people have actually tried to reach out every day.
Yeah.
Multiple times a day.
Actually, while we're even on the phone doing this,
they're probably texting.
So you said about three times.
Yeah.
Two or three times.
Okay.
So that's not,
that's not a ton.
Not stalker.
Yeah.
That's normal people behavior.
All right.
Well,
first of all, how did you meet Aaliyah?
So we met at a dog grooming salon.
We both have dogs.
I have my own barber.
So you don't get your hair done there.
No.
What kind of dog do you guys have?
Like each have?
I have a Rottweiler, and she has a Pitbull,
and that's kind of what brought us together. We were talking about how both of those breeds have bad reps. Yeah, I want to get a Rottweiler, and she has a Pitbull, and that's kind of what brought us together.
We were talking about how both of those breeds have bad reps.
Yeah, I want to get a Rottweiler, actually.
Yeah, Jubal just said he wants to get a Rottweiler.
You guys just got a German Shepherd, though.
I know, now I want to get a Rott.
And now I want another German Shepherd.
It's going to be a zoo.
So you have a Rottweiler, she has a Pitbull, you have two dogs that kind of get a bad rep.
Yeah, so we got to talking about that.
We seem to have similar interests besides just the dogs and haircuts.
So I got her number and asked her out later that night.
And she's responded quickly?
Yeah, yeah.
We talked.
We decided to have her come to my house and watch a movie, and that way the dogs could have kind of a play date, too.
Oh, okay.
I was going to say, that's a risky move.
That's intimate.
When you just meet someone going over to their house,
but she's going there with a pit bull, she's fine.
Yeah.
She's like, I'm not worried about it.
Yeah.
So she brought the dog over too?
Yeah, she had protection, so to speak.
Well, and obviously, a big thing, do the dogs get on?
Well, it's funny you say that,
because I'm wondering if that's why the silence from her is,
we got along fine, but our dogs got along really well.
Basically, my dog kept trying to have his way with her dog.
Right.
Oh, dear.
You didn't make any creepy comments about that, like, look at what they're doing.
Yeah, we should do that.
We should do the same thing.
I mean, I thought it was funny.
I don't know if she was like bothered by it,
but I don't think I said anything like creepy about it.
I mean, basically they were just getting along.
Yeah, it would be weird though to get offended by something like that.
When it's like a dog, they can't help it.
Yeah, exactly.
Or she can't help it.
It's that primal instinct.
Your dogs had an awkward moment, well, for you and your date.
No, they had a fun moment.
I guess maybe it was awkward for her.
Yeah, that's what I was saying.
Awkward for you guys.
Other than that, though, how was everything?
Did it seem like she was into you?
Yeah, I had fun.
It seemed like she was having fun.
We had, you know, a nice talk.
We watched a movie.
We had a kiss goodnight, and then she left. Oh, so you did have a kiss. End We watched a movie. We had a kiss goodnight and then
she left. Oh, so you did have a kiss.
Ended with a kiss. That's a good sign.
I thought so.
Why do you think she's not getting back to you?
Well, I guess that's why I'm
calling you. I can't figure it out.
Some girls still kiss
because they feel bad.
Even though they know that
they're not going to call them back.
I've done that too
before on a date.
A pity kiss from a man?
No.
Not from a man.
I never pity kiss a man.
I would actually,
I would just kiss a man,
you know?
But like,
a pity kiss,
like,
you know you're not
going to call them again
and they're like
kind of going in
and you're just like,
here.
Right.
And then you leave
knowing you're never
going to talk to them again.
Wow.
But I can see how
a lot of girls do that too
especially because guys
will like go in for it right away.
So maybe you think she pity kissed you?
No, I thought we really
got along. I mean, I
had a lot of fun with her. We watched
the movie, but we were talking too.
She's really pretty.
I mean, I really wanted to see her again.
Okay, well, we'll try to figure it out for you
then. We'll play a song, come back,
call her, and see if we can get you another date
or at least find out why she's not calling you back
with your first date follow-up, right?
Yeah, thank you.
We'll do it next.
Just joining us for today's first date follow-up,
Isaac is on the phone,
and Isaac might have been a victim of a pity kiss.
The old pity tongue.
That happens from time to time.
He met a girl named Aaliyah at the dog grooming salon.
They weren't getting their hair done there.
Their dogs were getting their hair done there.
He has a Rottweiler.
She has a pit bull.
They bonded over that.
And he eventually asked for her number and invited her to his house.
She went over there.
They hung out, had a good time.
They kissed at the end of the evening, but he has no idea why she's not getting back to him.
It's been a week and a half and he's texted her a few times.
He says there was one awkward moment where
his dog and her dog
started doing what dogs do
sometimes.
Doggy. What people do
sometimes. The dogs were kind of like starting
to do that and that was kind of awkward,
but he didn't think it was that big of a deal and
shouldn't have been a turn off, so we have no idea why she's not calling him back and we're about to
get her on the phone. All right, Isaac, any last words before we call her? I hope this works.
All right, here we go. I'm going to dial her phone number right now. Okay. Cool. Hello?
Hi, may I speak to Aaliyah, please?
This is her.
Aaliyah, how are you?
This is the Jubal Show.
It's a radio show.
My name is Jubal.
My name's Alex Fresh.
My name's English Evan.
Hello, everyone.
We do a segment on our show.
I know it's kind of weird that we're calling,
but we do a segment on our show
where if you go out on a date with someone
and then end up ghosting them,
they can email us to get you on the phone and find out what happened.
And we recently got an email about you from someone who listens to our show.
Oh, okay.
Any idea who could have emailed us about you?
I mean, I do have one person in mind.
Sure.
Who would that be?
Uh, Isaac. mind. Sure. Who would that be?
Isaac.
Correct.
Congratulations.
You didn't win anything except for having the correct answer.
Yeah.
Isaac emailed us about you.
He told us how you met.
Said he had a great time with you.
And he doesn't know why you're not calling him back.
He's a very nice guy.
He's sweet.
Sweet.
Nice.
That's such a terrible word, right? Yeah. It's never good as well when it goes to stouts with. He's a really nice guy. He's sweet. Nice, that's such a terrible word, right?
Yeah.
It's never good as well when it starts with, he's a really nice guy.
He's just nice.
He started off like he's really funny.
No, he is funny.
He is funny.
He's good looking, too.
Like, he's a lot of great things.
Don't get me wrong.
Why not call him back? He also said that you guys kissed at the end of the evening, so.
Well, yeah, he's a decent kisser.
I'll give him that, too.
Okay, so let me run this down real quick.
He's a nice guy, funny, good-looking,
decent kisser.
Sounds terrible.
I mean, what else do you want?
Yeah.
I know, awful, right?
No, he's so serious.
He was, like, on the fast track
to marriage, it seems like.
What?
What?
What are you talking about?
I know this might sound weird,
but I did go to his house on the first date,
which normally I wouldn't do.
Yeah.
But I did bring my dog,
because we both have dogs.
Yeah, he told us about that.
He said you guys met at the dog room,
or he said you had a pit bull,
and that's why I was like,
oh, that's why she would go over to your house,
because she has a pit bull.
So that was great and everything,
but then all of a sudden,
as we're like you know when
you're watching a movie but then you kind of talk a little bit and like your hands get closer and
you know all of that but here and like as we're watching a movie and it might be something where
there's a married couple or there's a couple living together he'd be like oh yeah like we
can look on zillow and look for houses and we can find something with a big backyard.
On your first date?
Yes, yes.
And I'm like, in my mind, like, pump the brakes.
Yeah, that is kind of creepy.
What? How did that even come up?
Yeah.
Okay, have you guys ever seen the canvas art
where you can put your dog's face on like a Renaissance,
like it'll be like Henry VIII,
but it'll be your dog's face.
And he was like, oh, we can have like our dogs next to each other. They could be like henry the eighth but it'll be your dog space and he was like oh we
can have like our dogs next to each other they could be like you know like two princes um what
no no you know we talked to isaac about your date because we obviously wanted to find out
you know how he felt and his perspective was he being legit or was he just you know trying to
make jokes that didn't hit right oh i think I think he was being legit. Like, have any of you ever met somebody
and you do feel like a click,
like that the conversation is just flowing,
you're like vibing together?
Have you ever felt that?
And you're like, yeah, I feel good about this person.
But on the first date, I'm not like,
and then we can look at Zillow right now.
What do we got?
Yeah.
So it had nothing to do with the fact, though,
that his dog was trying to hump your dog?
No.
No.
That was awkward.
I'm like, okay, you both are now
just moving way too fast.
His dog moves even quicker than he did
with you.
Well, thank you for telling us.
Thank you. I appreciate you telling us why you're not calling him back
and being honest with us about that now.
I feel like we should be honest with you and tell you that Isaac is actually on the line listening and wants to talk to you.
What?
You've been listening this whole time?
I mean, I'm sorry if you feel tricked or whatever.
And I'm sorry if you clearly you were getting, you know, a feeling from me or whatever
that I wasn't really meaning to give you. I mean, maybe, you know, being alone for the past year,
lockdown wise is, you know, put me in a little bit of a different mindset. But I,
I was not being totally serious when I was saying we should move in together and get
matching dog portraits. You know, I was trying to be a little fun.
Well, then what were you meaning?
Maybe like in the moment I could see that, but I wasn't trying to say like, let's do it now.
Or it seems like I came on way too strong.
And that's definitely not what I meant to happen.
All I meant by any of that was just that I was enjoying your company and kind of having fun with you.
And that's great.
But can we just piece something together too?
Number one, you definitely opened up the Zillow app.
So you weren't.
And then secondly, you said those things before we even kissed.
Like, you don't even know what my tongue feels like.
Well, I mean, I look at the Zillow app every day.
It's like looking at Instagram or something.
I wasn't trying to commit to buying a house with you.
Dating 101, don't talk about marriage, moving in together, any of that on the first date.
No way.
Well, look, now that you know that maybe we just had a little bit of a misunderstanding,
if you want to meet up again, I will try and keep all those things in check.
I'm going to say... Well, let me officially
ask you because I want you to think about this for a second. See if you believe Isaac
when he says those are just jokes. Aaliyah, would you like to go on another date with Isaac?
We will pay for it. I don't believe him and
I'm going to pass. Really? I'm just not ready to move
that fast.
I mean, it seems like the huge strike against me was that you thought I liked you too much,
which I don't know if I'm even sorry about.
I did like you.
And I, you know, with understanding
that there's no commitment to buy a house
or anything else,
I would love to see you again.
I mean, we can go
at whatever speed you want, obviously. I'm still saying no, like, there are a lot of great things
about you. But one thing that I stick by is that I have to go at my own pace. And I just don't
think you, yeah, we're just not on the same page. All right, well, then I accept that and good luck. But I will say if we, you know,
if we run into each other at a dog park or the groomer again or something,
then I hope you'll agree that it's faded and we should elope.
