First day follow-up.
Is anybody in this room, meaning Alex and English Evan?
Yes.
We're the only people in the room right now.
If there are others, that would be weird.
Weird if I ask six questions and someone pops up from the other side of the room and goes, hello, I'm in here Haven. Yes. We're the only people in the room right now. If there are others, that would be weird. Weird if I ask six questions
and someone pops up
from the other side of the room
and goes,
hello, I'm in here too.
No.
Have you guys ever
asked someone out on a date
that was like an old friend of yours
and then all of a sudden
you reconnect
and you're like,
ooh, I'm going to try
to get romantic with them.
Uh.
I haven't.
Have you, Alex?
No.
No.
Have you, person who's hiding in the cupboard?
Yes, I've done it three times and it worked out very well, sir.
No, nobody has anything in the studio.
I haven't.
I've always felt awkward even thinking about doing that.
But Juan, who's on the phone for a first date follow-up right now, apparently that's what he did. And he scored a date with the girl who's now not calling him back.
Maybe ruined an old friendship in the process.
Juan, what's up, man?
How are you?
Hey, guys.
How are you doing?
Not too bad.
So your email said that you asked out an old friend of yours.
Yeah.
So we grew up on the same street as kids,
but I moved away when I was about 16.
Okay.
Yeah.
And I just always liked you know, liked her.
We always got along really well.
She dated some other guys, which, like, would kind of make me jealous,
but I just wasn't really, like, brave enough when I was younger to ask her out.
Did you reach out to her?
Yeah, I did.
On, like, social media or something?
Yeah, we were friends on Instagram.
Okay, and when you reconnected, you know, were sparks flying?
Is that why you decided to turn it into a romantic thing?
Yeah, I mean, I felt like it was.
Like, we hit it off real good, and, you know,
she wasn't hesitant at all about going out on a date,
and I made it, you know, clear that I wanted it to be a date.
How was the date?
I thought everything was amazing.
Like, our conversations were great. We caught up like on a
lot of old, you know, stuff that we went through together in school. And yeah, it was just a great
time. I thought. So why do you think she's not calling you back? Did anything happen that you
can think of? Not really. On the way to the restaurant, uh, one of the tires on my car
blew out, but I didn't really think it was a big deal. I changed the tire and of the tires on my car blew out but I didn't really
think it was a big deal
I changed the tire
and we got right
on our way
and got to the restaurant
I mean that's an opportunity
for you to show
what a manly man
you are too
yeah
you know
unless it takes you
three hours
to change a tire
she's like
this is the worst man ever
yeah
did it take you
too long
to change the tire
you think
no
30 minutes
in and out
we're good.
Okay.
I'd have to pull up a YouTube tutorial.
I don't think it would be a deal breaker if you...
I mean, it's not your fault the tire broke.
No.
Yeah, I'm not really sure.
Okay.
And you can't think of any other reason that she's not calling you back?
No.
We hugged at the end of the night.
I told her I would call her.
And she seemed receptive to that?
Yeah, she was totally cool about it.
I mean, I did wait a little while to give her a call
because I didn't want to seem needy.
And I am well concerned that might be a part of it.
How long did you wait?
Yeah, no, it was just like five days.
And then I texted her after too.
Five days is a long time
to wait though. Yeah. You want to
strike while the iron's hot. Yeah.
Well, yeah, I didn't want to seem
thirsty, but
maybe I just waited too long
and she thinks that I blew her off.
I think after hearing your voice, I know what it was.
I think you probably seemed way too
excited on the date.
Way too pumped up. Yeah, you just sound so excited about it.
Yeah.
Did you like her?
Yeah, of course.
Okay, all right.
You just bummed out or something?
You just sound a little sad.
I mean, yeah, I'm just sad about this whole situation, you know?
It's like she was kind of like my dream girl, I guess you could say.
Oh, all right. Yeah, I'd be bummed too, you know? Okay, okay. She was kind of like my dream girl, I guess you could say. Oh, all right.
Yeah, I'd be bummed too, you know?
So, okay, well,
so you think that maybe you waited too long
to hit her up after,
which five days is a long time.
Yes, it is.
And maybe in that time,
she's like, wow,
he must not really be that into me.
Is that what you think?
Yeah, absolutely.
Okay.
Yeah, I mean,
that's the only thing I can think of at this point.
All right, well, we'll play a song,
come back and call her and see if we can figure out
why she's not getting back to you, okay?
Okay, thank you so much, guys.
Yeah, man.
We'll do it next.
It's the Jubal Show.
Juan is on the phone for today's first date follow-up, and he feels like he let the girl
of his dreams slip away out of his greasy fingertips.
Greasy.
I don't know if your fingertips are greasy, Juan, but that's how you feel, right?
Yeah, definitely.
Just to catch you up in case you didn't hear the first part.
Juan actually asked out an old friend that he used to know that he grew up on the same block with.
He moved away when he was like 16.
They reconnected online.
Then he asked her out.
They went out just to eat and he said that it was amazing.
He felt like they reconnected and the date was great.
He also just called her his dream girl.
And he thinks maybe his dream girl got away.
The only awkward things that he can think of are that his tire blew out on the way there.
But he got it fixed.
Showed what a man he is.
Yeah.
And the fact that he waited five days to call her after the date because he didn't want to be too eager.
Again, sure what a man he is.
And he thinks maybe that might have made her think that he didn't really care that much.
So we're about to get her on the phone
and find out if that is the reason she's not
calling you back. Hopefully, Juan,
we can get your dream girl
out of your dreams and back into your
life. Whoa. Yeah.
I'm good at this. Thank you, guys.
Yeah, no problem. All right.
I'm going to call right now. Here we go.
Hello?
Hi, may I speak to Marcella?
This is she.
Hello there, Marcella.
This is The Jubal Show.
The what?
The Jubal Show.
Sorry to do it in a stupid weird voice like that.
The Jubal show. It's a radio show. My name is Jubal. I'm here with Mahata's wife, Alex Freyash.
Hi. And English Evan. Hello.
So you're talking to three people right now.
Why are you guys calling me?
That's a good question. A question a lot of people
ask us. Well, we do a
segment on our show where if you go out on a date
with someone and then end up not calling them back,
that person can email us to get you on the phone and find out what happened and you recently went
out on a date with a firecracker named Juan yeah I did yeah you grew up with Juan and then Juan
moved away at 16 and then hit you up recently so what's up with Juan? That sounds like the name of a sitcom.
What's up with Juan is he emailed us and we know all that stuff
because he told us about your date.
He also said that he thought you had a really good time,
but then you haven't called him back
or haven't answered any of his text messages,
none of that.
So he's wondering if he did something wrong.
I mean, Juan's really nice.
I just, I think that he's cursed.
Cursed?
Why do you think he's cursed?
Well, he had bad luck the whole night.
Like, first we're driving there and his tire blew.
Yeah, he told us about that.
It happens, you know, and like...
Wait, so you think he's cursed because his tire blew out on the way to your date?
Well, then when we got to the restaurant and we got our food,
his burger was messed up and had to send it back.
Well, that doesn't seem that unlucky, the burger thing.
Yeah, that happens a lot.
Yeah.
Yeah, and then he spilled something on his shirt.
That happens to me every single day.
Every single time.
Yeah, it was just a combination of all of it like he kind of got
flustered and like i don't know it was do you think maybe it was more like a nervous thing
no the nervous wouldn't make his tire blow out that's the that's a universe thing like oh
you're saying that you think the universe is out to get Juan. Yeah. Because his tire blew and his food was wrong?
Yeah.
But it just, to me, it doesn't sound like it's that bad.
Well, it's not only that.
Like, after I got home, I broke a glass, which never happens.
So his bad luck was rubbing off on me.
Really?
Are you sure you're not just, like, reading into things a little bit too much?
No, I mean, that stuff doesn't happen. And, you know, people like that affect your energy.
Okay.
I've dated a couple of guys with bad luck, and I'm not doing that again. I'm not trying to go down that road.
All right. So you don't want to talk to him at all then because you're definitely scared that his horrible luck
is going to rub off on you.
Yeah, I don't want to do that.
Okay, well then,
unfortunately,
I'm going to have to let you know
you might have to deal with it
a second longer
because Juan is actually
on the other line listening
and wants to talk to you.
Ugh.
Hey, Marcella.
Hi, Juan.
So, Juan, do you think that you have bad luck?
I mean, I've never thought of myself that way,
and I just got my best job ever, like, a couple days after I saw Marcella.
Oh, that's some good luck, Marcella.
What do you think about that?
Because, yeah, because I have good luck, and my luck rubbed off on you. Wait, I'm confused. So
Juan said that he actually got a job, but you're taking credit for him getting the job based on
your good luck. But he also gave you bad luck because you went on a date with him. He's bad
luck. Am I getting that right? The universe exchanges luck. So he's planning a day with me. I have good luck.
He got a good job,
you know,
then he came into my life again and then I'm breaking stuff in my kitchen and
it's,
it doesn't,
I want to keep my luck and he can have his.
Yeah.
The science adds up.
I mean,
it's making sense.
Marcella,
I really hope that you can give me another chance.
I don't really feel like I have bad luck.
I don't really know exactly where this is all coming from,
but I'd love to hear about your thoughts about all of it.
You know what, Juan?
I just remembered something.
We used to live on the same block,
and remember when we were riding bikes together that one time?
Did we ride
bikes together a lot?
Yeah,
we did, but
remember that one time when we were
riding bikes together and then I fell and
I skinned my knee and now I know why
that happened.
You're saying you're blaming
your skin me
as a kid
on me too.
Yeah.
Like,
why else would that
have happened?
I'm convinced.
No other reason.
Yeah.
Hey,
I'm just going to ask
because I think I know
where this is going.
Marcella,
would you like to go
on another date with Juan?
We will pay for it.
No,
I'm going to pass.
I figured you would.
And I'm sure you probably want to get off the phone too
so you don't get more of Juan's bad luck into your life.
That sounds great.
Okay, and also, before we let you go,
I'm going to thank you for the good luck
that you've just bestowed on all of us
because apparently you have that effect.
So I'm looking forward to today.
Today's going to be a great day.
We should technically get a better job.
Yeah.
Well, you're welcome. I hope that the universe takes care of you I'm looking forward to today. Today's going to be a great day. We should technically get a better job. Yeah.
Well, you're welcome.
I hope that the universe takes care of you as it continues to take care of me.
All right.
You have a good one.
Bye.
Bye.
Hey, Juan, are you still there?
Yeah, I'm here.
Was she that out there on your date?
No, but now that I think about it, when I recall,
she kept talking about my energy and her energy
and the exchange of energies
between people, so
I guess it kind of just flew over
my head, but yeah, it makes sense.
Or maybe you didn't get it because your mind wasn't open to your
bad luck.
Okay, yeah. At least I know now
that I'm bad luck for everyone.
Yeah, thanks a lot
for the bad luck, man.
We should have got off the phone
with you first
and then her second.
Great, now we're going
to have a bad day.
Yeah, great, awesome.
Thanks a lot, Juan.
Yeah, enjoy it, guys.
Yeah, thanks a lot.
