First date follow-up.
Common interests are important when you start dating somebody.
That's true.
Yeah.
It can bond you guys immediately if you have a really specific common interest.
Right.
You know, like super glue.
If you have a super glue fetish.
If you have a super glue fetish, that can bond you instantly. I see what you did there. That was a glue joke.
You're not getting that on many other shows today. I can tell you that. And that's
why Rye is on the phone today for a first date follow up. He has a super glue fetish.
Really? And apparently he's not getting a call back because of it. Well, I know why you're not
getting a call back. Is that right, Rye? That's not my, no, that's not
actually my thing.
You liar, Jubal. Yeah, I mean,
he said they had a common interest,
so I just went with what I know.
Oh, wow.
And it was super glue,
but I guess that wasn't it.
It must have gotten stuck in your head.
Yeah.
Oh, wow.
You said that you really bonded with,
what's her name, by the way,
the girl that you want us to call today?
Madison.
Madison, all right.
Your email said that you really bonded with Madison because of a common
interest but now she's not calling you back tell us a little bit about the date
yeah so we we both really like tennis and a little out there for my taste
tennis huh no it's fun but it was like and it's like a cool low-key date too where
we we actually we met at the park we had like a little picnic and that played tennis and so like
you know got to kind of meet each other and talk and hang out and that's actually pretty awesome
that you meet somebody who's into something you're into alex and i are married by the way
if you didn't know that.
But when we first met, she's really into basketball.
I played basketball growing up.
She played basketball growing up.
She's way better than me.
But it was really cool to be able to play basketball with your girlfriend.
That was awesome.
You know, so playing tennis, I could see how playing tennis with a girl that you're into would be a dope date.
Yeah, it's awesome.
Just having the common interest, you know, and yeah, like the way you said, it's fun to be able to like hang out and play this thing that you like with with a girl like.
Yeah.
So you said that you met for you met and you had a picnic or something and then played tennis together.
Yeah, I mean, we just had like a, you know, a little bit of food and just kind of talked and got to know each other a little bit.
And all that stuff really clicked.
Like, it just felt like the conversation was easy.
And then we got up and we, you know, went and played tennis.
And it was, I mean, that was like the best part of the day.
Yeah, I can hear you smiling about it.
Yeah.
I know exactly how you feel.
I gave you the basketball thing for an example.
Like, it was awesome. Yeah. How did you feel like she, you know, was feeling throughout the day. Yeah, I can hear you smiling about it. I know exactly how you feel. I gave you the basketball thing for an example. It was awesome.
How did you feel like she was feeling throughout the date? She was great.
The whole conversation in the beginning,
we're having fun.
She was excited about playing tennis.
Then, if I'm going to be honest,
towards the end,
she seemed a little bit off
or different or something.
I don't know. She did leave the date kind of quickly, which I don't know what was going on there.
Her mood changed in between you guys first meeting up and the end of the date?
Yeah, yeah.
Was she on her phone at all or distracted?
Or was it because of something that you might have said or done?
Yeah, but one thing I noticed is she was, like, super competitive.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Okay.
She had a real fire.
And I beat her.
Oh, you did.
So maybe she was just pissed that she lost.
Yeah, I mean, I thought that at first, but then the fact
that she hasn't called me back
or returned any texts
is kind of making me think
that maybe it was something else.
Well, how long has it been
since she hasn't responded?
Just over a week.
Okay, that's long enough
to know you've gotten ghosted
for sure.
So you've literally ruined
the sport of tennis for her
and now she's not calling you back.
Yeah. So is that the only thing you can think of then? The only reason and now she's not calling you back. Yeah.
So is that the only thing you can think of then?
The only reason that she might not be calling you back is the fact that she's
super competitive and a sore loser and you beat her at tennis.
I,
I,
yeah.
I mean,
the only other thing,
and this would be weird is I was like a few minutes late,
like five minutes late.
But again,
when I got there,
she seemed very happy and, you know,
happy to see me and everything.
If she was upset that you were late,
she probably wouldn't have been nice right away.
Yeah, that can't be it.
And also five minutes, that's a bit psychotic
to be, you know, angry about that.
Wow.
What?
I had no idea you were so selfish.
Time is people's most important possession.
And you were late to everything.
And I am late for everything,
but I admit it even though it's seven.
Oh.
Well, here, man.
We'll play a song, come back,
and then call her and see if we can figure it out for you, okay?
Amazing. Thanks so much.
Yep, we'll get your first date follow-up right after this.
It's the Jubal Show.
Dry on the phone today for a first date follow-up.
Played tennis on his first date
because I guess he shared an interest in tennis
with the girl he went out with.
Her name is Madison. He said that the date was great. He liked her a lot, especially the fact that they
shared the love of tennis together. And at the beginning of his date, her attitude was fine.
She seemed really into him. And then towards the end of the date, she seemed like she was not into
him at all. I didn't ask you in the first part, right? Did you guys kiss or anything? How'd you
part ways? Uh, we just kind of, yeah, I don't know.
We just kind of gave a little hug,
and it was just like, you know, it was very general, basic.
And the only thing that Rye can think of
as being a reason that he's not getting a call back from her
is the fact that he beat her, and she seemed very competitive.
Are you competitive?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Okay, maybe you shouldn't call her. But you couldn't let her win on the you competitive? Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Okay. Maybe you shouldn't
let her win on the first date.
I couldn't. No.
Wow. Relationships are built
on trust, not lies.
Yeah, but chivalry goes a long way, man.
Yeah. Well, I mean, maybe you
did get competitive and you didn't even realize it, but
we'll call her right now and see if we can figure it out.
All right. You ready? Awesome. Thanks.
Yep.
Hello?
Hi, may I speak to Madison, please?
This is she.
Who's this?
This is the Jubal Show.
It's a radio show.
It involves me.
My name's Jubal.
My name's Alex.
My name's Evan. Okay. And you're calling from a radio show. It involves me. My name's Jubal. My name's Alex. My name's Evan.
Okay, and you're calling from a radio station?
We do a segment on our show called The First Date Follow-Up.
That's where if you go on a date with someone and don't call them back after,
they can email us to get you on the phone and find out what happened.
And we got an email about you recently from a dude named Rye.
Oh.
Yeah.
Rye.
Yeah. Oh Oh Rye
You can always tell when
People do that on the phone Madison
When they go oh it's like Rye probably
Has a nickname with your friends
You know how people do that
Oh yeah
He definitely has a nickname with my friends
What is it
Hervey Rye.
Purvy Rye.
That would lead me to assume, based on your nickname, that he's Purvy?
God, you're good.
Purvy?
Yeah.
I'm so glad you can connect those dots.
What did he do that was Purvy?
I don't know.
Where do I begin, I guess?
I'll tell you what he told us.
How about that?
I'll tell you what he told us, and then you can fill in whatever blank needs to be filled in.
So, he said that you guys went and played tennis and had a great time,
and at the end of it, he could tell that you were upset about something.
He doesn't know what, though.
How could he not? I mean, wow. He must be completely...
Well, what did he do?
We're playing tennis.
So, he was obviously very excited. completely. Well, what did he do? We're playing tennis. So
he was obviously very
excited
the entire time we were together.
Oh no. Very excited.
Oh yeah. You don't mean like
a smile on his face
jumping up and down excited,
do you? Oh no.
Yeah, yeah. I mean like down
there excited.
How can you get down there excited during tennis? Yeah, he said you guys played tennis. He must really love tennis.
Oh, yeah. And it was just, it was so pervy. It was such an icky vibe. Like, oh, I thought
he was keeping some of the tennis balls in his pocket. And it was not that. Oh, wow.
I mean, whoa.
Okay.
How is he that excited?
I mean, I guess it's a compliment, isn't it?
He's, well, I don't know.
I mean, was he wearing basketball shorts?
You know how they, you know.
Reveal a lot?
Yeah, they were workout shorts and it was very obvious.
I'm not blind.
All right, well, I can understand why you wouldn't want to call him back then if he is a raging tennis player.
Say that.
That's weird.
Thank you for being honest with us.
I appreciate that.
And now, Madison,
I do want to be honest with you
and let you know that Pervy Rye
is on the phone
and has been listening to this
and would like to talk to you.
Oh, no.
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Don't worry.
We're not going to let him get pervy with you because if this is true, right.
Yeah.
First of all, not true at all.
No, just half chub or?
No.
Madison, are you still there?
Yeah, I'm still here.
Totally not true.
So, Madison, you know how I was a few minutes late for the date?
Yeah, which is fine.
I get it.
Yeah.
So I was changing clothes in the car, like from my pants into my shorts,
and I didn't have any underwear.
But I just had my workout shorts on.
So I didn't have any underwear.
It doesn't excuse the fact that you didn't have any underwear on, right?
So I don't know how to say this.
I mean, I swear to you, I was happy to hang out with you.
I was not excited in any way.
Well, I just have to hold on.
I'm sorry.
I don't mean to cut you off.
But how do you explain this then?
I just imagine me.
I don't know you.
We're meeting up for the first time,
and then that was all very, it was quite a visual for a first date.
Yeah, I'm really embarrassed.
I would be too.
Yeah, no, so that's how it is.
What?
You're just always walking around like that?
At attention? That's just how it is, like, sorry, just always walking around like that? At attention?
That's just how it is.
Like, sorry, I have a boner everywhere I go.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
I did not even have a boner.
I endowed, I will say.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Yeah, I don't know.
I'm still uncomfortable right now.
I don't know how to talk.
You're blessed.
That's what was going on.
Oh.
So you didn't have underwear and I guess you brought two
tennis rackets.
And the
other tennis racket was
flopping around and it
might have looked like you were...
Oh my God, I'm mortified
right now. Well, I don't know if I'm more mortified for me
or for Rye. I don't know. I think you should be pretty happy about Rye. Yeah, I think Rye's probably not mortified right now. Well, I don't know if I'm more mortified for me or for Rye.
I don't know.
I think you should be pretty happy about Rye.
Yeah, I think Rye's probably not mortified.
He's probably like, hehehe.
Yeah, Rye.
I like how Rye's trying to be humble about it. Yeah, trying to act all humble.
I'm so embarrassed right now.
Yeah.
That's just how it is.
So I just have to ask, like, are you serious about this?
Like, that's not, I just, is that how you?
I swear to you, I was not erect.
I really, really, really mean it.
And I'm so sorry that I embarrassed you.
And I really want to see you again and hang out.
And I'm just sorry that that's, I'm not a pervert.
I promise.
Okay.
All right.
Well, Madison, would you like to go out on another date with Rye?
We will pay for it.
Please.
Come on.
I promise.
I will prove it to you that I'm not a pervert.
Oh, Rye.
Yeah, baby.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, yeah.
Yeah. Okay. Let's go on another date. Woo-hoo. Yay. I figured that was going to happen. Well, I mean, yeah.
Yeah.
OK, let's go on another date.
Yay.
Figured that was going to happen.
Obvious.
Just trying to act hesitant also.
I guess that's fine.
I guess you're going to have to prove it. Yeah.
