Starting point is 00:00:01 Ugh, we're so done with New Year, New You. This year, it's more you on Bumble. More of you shamelessly sending playlists, especially that one filled with show tunes. More of you finding Gemini's because you know you always like them. More of you dating with intention because you know what you want. And you know what? We love that for you. Someone else will too.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Be more you this year and find them on Bumble. The Indicator is a podcast where daily economic news is about what matters to you. And we're guessing most days, that's money. Workers have been feeling the sting of inflation. So as a new administration promises action on the cost of living, taxes, and home prices. The S&P 500 biggest post-election day spike ever. Follow all the big changes and what they mean for you. Make America affordable again.
Starting point is 00:00:53 Listen to The Indicator from NPR on the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get podcasts. This week on the R&B Money Podcast, Tank and Jay Valentine sit down with the one and only Snoop Dogg. I wanted to be here personally to come give y'all flowers and let y'all know y'all doing an amazing job. I love the outlet. I love how y'all treat the artists that come on here. I love how y'all speak to the realization of R&B music and R&B money.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Snoop Dogg on R&B money. Listen to this episode on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You know what they say, never dip your pen in the company ink. I know, why do they say that? Never sharpen your pencil in the company pencil sharpener. Why?
Starting point is 00:01:36 That one's so common. Yeah, I've never really heard that one before. But you get the point, right? Don't mess around with someone at work. Sure, sure. Don't eat where you poo. Ew. That's disgusting.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Nobody ever listens. Austin is on the phone right now for a first date follow-up, and Austin apparently asked out one of his coworkers, but now she's ghosting him, so that's got to be super awkward. What's up, Austin? How are you? Hey, guys.
Starting point is 00:02:04 I'm okay. I'm okay. I'm okay. How are you guys doing? Yeah, not bad. Not too bad. So your email said that you went out on a date with a co-worker, and now she's not calling you back? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Yeah, man. It's crazy. She's this new girl, and there was kind of some sparks, and so I got the courage up and asked her out, and we went out and had a great time, and now she's just nothing. So how long have you guys known each other at work? Well, she's new, actually.
Starting point is 00:02:30 She's a new hire, so it's pretty recent. But, yeah, you know, we just talked a couple times about the water cooler, that kind of thing, and gave her my number, and I know this really great place, and it's kind of like my go-to spot. I mean, were you nervous though about asking out a coworker like that? Yeah. You know, anytime for me, I've always think about HR, you know, or getting in trouble or, or not working out and then having to come to work and sit across from them or, you know, see them at the cubicle and be like, Hey, so yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Remember that time I asked you out, can we forget about that? That was kind of in the back of my head, but I was also like, look, if, you know, you got to shoot your shot, and if it's the right one, then it'll work out, you know? I think I'd much rather try it than not. Was she giving you any cues that she liked you, too, or that she was flirting back? Yeah, yeah, no, yeah, there was a little bit of flirting. She's a little sassy. She likes to be a little sarcastic, make a couple little ribs. And it was fun. She was fun to talk to. And, you know, someone knew it works. And finally,
Starting point is 00:03:29 someone that's like fun to talk to. So it was inevitable. Did you guys end up going out? Yeah, yeah, we did. We had a really nice dinner and I thought it went great. But now it's just kind of like crickets. I don't really know what to do. How long has it been since your guys' date? It's been a bit about a week and a half. And then how many times have you tried to reach out to her? You know, for about a week and a half. Alright. And have you seen her at work, though? How closely do you guys work? Yeah. No, yeah, we're in like the same little bullpen area. That's how I see her every day.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Oh, no. It's a little awkward now. She's blowing me off. And it's just obvious. That's what sucks is like, you know, the other day I was walking down the hall and she turns a corner and she sees me. We make eye contact and she immediately turns around and walks back the way she came. I mean, what did you do?
Starting point is 00:04:23 Yeah, for real. What did you do? I didn't do anything. I thought we had a great time. I had a great time came. I mean, what did you do? Yeah, for real. What did you do? I didn't do anything. I thought we had a great time. I had a great time anyway. I was laughing. Well, for her to not talk to you at all or just not to be like, hey, yeah, sorry, I just didn't, you know, think that it's going to work out between us.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Like the fact that she's ignoring you. Yeah. It's crazy. She's dodging you in the hallway. She works with you. I can understand if she didn't work with you. Yeah. Austin, please, please be honest with us.
Starting point is 00:04:45 Did anything happen on the date that was weird that you did? I didn't do anything weird. I did run into a couple friends there. It's always weird when you run into friends on a first date. They were all girls. I don't know if that matters that much. But if three girls showed up and they're like, Hey, what's up, Os? How are you? And then they tickle them and he's like,
Starting point is 00:05:04 Those are my friends. Would you be like, This guy's kind of a player? On a first date, I would're like, hey, what's up, Oz? How are you? And then they tickle them and he's like, those are my friends. Would you be like, this guy's kind of a player? On a first date, I would be like, that is weird. Three girls? That's excessive. That's a lot of girls. Okay, so maybe that's it. Yeah, maybe.
Starting point is 00:05:15 But I made it very clear. I introduced them. I was like, no, these are my friends. Emphasize on the friends. Just friends. But maybe she took it the other way. I don't know. I mean.
Starting point is 00:05:26 And at the very least, you want to find out an answer. So maybe you can make your work situation cool again. Yeah. Just less awkward. Honestly, yeah. All right. Well, we'll play a song and then come back and call her and see if we can figure it out for you and see if we can get you another date if you want it after you hear what she
Starting point is 00:05:43 has to say. Well, fingers crossed. Let's do it. Alright, we'll get your first date follow-up next. Hey, Austin? Yeah? So, you want to do a first date follow-up. You want us to call this girl, Kayla, who is a new hire at your office that you asked out. You guys went out to dinner.
Starting point is 00:05:58 You thought it was great. Austin has no idea why Kayla is not calling him back. He even said that now at work when he sees her, she just does a 180 in the hallway and goes the other way. She's pretty much hiding in the crawl spaces and the air conditioning trying to not have to see Austin at work and he doesn't know what happened. The only thing that he can think happened is that while they were out at dinner on their date, he had a couple of friends come up to him that were at the restaurant that they were at and it
Starting point is 00:06:23 happened to be females and maybe she thought that he had dated them or he was kind of a player um austin you don't seem like a player to me are you a player player no i mean i know i don't have the ability very honest yeah all right i'm gonna dial her phone number right now and see if we can figure it out for you right All right, here we go. Hello? Hi, may I speak to Kayla, please? Yes, this is she. Kayla, how are you? This is Jubal from The Jubal Show. This is Alex Fresh from The Jubal Show. This is English Fresh from The Jubal Show. This is English Evan from The Jubal Show. Do you know The Jubal Show? I do.
Starting point is 00:07:08 What is happening? Oh, no. All right, sweet. Thanks for listening. Yeah, I appreciate that. Have you ever heard us do a first date follow-up before? I have, yeah. Okay, that's the segment where if you go out on a date with someone
Starting point is 00:07:23 and then you don't call them back after, they can email us to get you on the phone and ask what happened. Okay. And we're on the phone with you right now. Can you put two and two together? Okay. So who did you ghost? Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Is this about Austin? Does he happen to work with you? Uh-huh. Yes, it's Austin. Does he happen to work with you? Uh-huh. Yes, it's Austin. Austin emailed us, told us about how he met you, asked you out when you were a new hire at the office, said that you guys
Starting point is 00:07:55 went out and had a great time, but now you're not calling him back and he doesn't know why. Also, he said he's noticed you've been avoiding him in the hallways. This is so embarrassing. Well, is the reason you're not calling him back embarrassing? I mean, no, I just, like, okay. So we met at work and he was really sweet.
Starting point is 00:08:19 And like, we had a good time joking around and stuff. He said that you were a new hire. Was that kind of weird for him to ask you out? I mean, I was trying to think about it. I was like, man, that must have been sort of an awkward ask out. No, it felt natural. It wasn't just like he came up to my desk the first day I was working and was
Starting point is 00:08:36 like, go out with me. You know, we just started talking. He like showed me where the post-its were. How cute. Yeah, and like we just, just you know kind of had like banter you know kind of I'm just like kind of making fun of him that's like our bit together and like it was fun we talked to him and he said that he thought um he liked that you're really sarcastic and stuff with him I mean I just you know I thought it was friendly more than
Starting point is 00:09:04 anything else but you know like you know when I thought it was friendly more than anything else, but you know, like, you know when you're connecting with somebody, you're like, oh, maybe there could be something there, but like, when you're in the context of it being work, you're like, I don't know. Right. Well, because obviously a part of you must have liked him because you said yes to the date, right? Yeah. And a lot of people meet
Starting point is 00:09:19 their significant others at work, and it doesn't work out. Yeah. Or some people meet their significant others and then convince them to work with them like i did with alex yeah exactly see like it works for you so what happened why aren't you calling him back okay well like nothing bad happened i just you know we went out and we got dinner and it was nice but I just kind of realized as we were talking that I just I don't really like him romantically like I'm not really attracted to him in that way I would rather just be friends or just be like friendly co-workers you know like he's a cool guy I just didn't really like feel it. I mean that's fine but like how come you just didn't tell him that? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:10:11 I was going to, but then he started double texting me, and I just got really off-put by that. Did he say double texting you? Yeah. He was like, hey, I had a really great time, and I didn't answer for a few hours. And he was like, it was so fun thinking about you. Oh, yeah, that's annoying. Yeah, that is annoying. He's going off on the text i got a like good morning hope you slept well and it's like we
Starting point is 00:10:30 hadn't even spoken you know like i don't know i felt very claustrophobic and so like okay also i swear he's like started following me at work like I will round the corner and he'll just be standing there. Oh, that's creepy. It's not like he's a creep. It's just, I can tell he really wants to talk to me and it's like, I'm sure he does because you ghosted him and you guys work together and I'm
Starting point is 00:10:57 sure that's super awkward for him. Yeah. No, it is super awkward for me. Like I can't like have that conversation at work. I just like, why didn't you just take the hint? When you know you have to see him at work, that might be the time to have a conversation.
Starting point is 00:11:12 I think you should do that. Just talk to him. I think so, too. Yeah, you should. Yeah, definitely. I mean, yeah, I guess. I just, like, at this point, I don't even know how I would, like, start that conversation. It's just so awkward. Oh, it's easy.
Starting point is 00:11:22 We could do it for you. I know how. Yeah, because he's actually on the phone listening and wants to talk to you. Like right now. Mm-hmm. Oh, that's right. Oh. Yeah, forgot about that part.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Yeah. Hey. Hey, Kayla. Hi, Austin. I guess I was overstepping some boundaries. I'm sorry about that. I just, I don't know. I just, it was just kind of out of left field, you know?
Starting point is 00:11:45 Just getting blown off and having to see you all the time just kind of sucks. Yeah, seeing you all the time does suck. Oh. Wow. Okay. No, I mean, I don't mean it like that. That came off super rude.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Yeah. It honestly felt like stalking. It really like started to feel kind of like aggressive and overwhelming and like I understand that you like want to go out with me again and that's really flattering but I like I don't even know if I can still like work at this job if it's going to be this vibe like it's really it's made it so uncomfortable for me oh wow wow um okay well uh i'm sorry too i guess i don't want to you know i know you're new the last thing i wanted to do is like make you worry about like your work and
Starting point is 00:12:38 everything yeah i i guess we can just, be cordial at work together. Honestly, I'd like that. You know, I do like hanging out with you. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. I'm sorry about that. Yeah, you definitely did. I still have to ask, though, because it is a first date fall, but it wouldn't be one if I didn't. Kayla, would you like to go out on another date with Austin? We'll pay for it.
Starting point is 00:13:06 It'll be fun. No, I'm dead. Oh, shaka. Wow, I had no idea. Austin, well, at least Kayla doesn't think you're a player. Wait, you thought that I thought you were a player? Yeah, you know, it was awkward when the three friends came up. I just felt like you thought I would be a player because all these three girls just come up and talk to me
Starting point is 00:13:27 when I'm trying to spend time with you. I don't know. I didn't want it to come up that way. Oh, my God, no. I was not worried about that at all. They were, like, so out of your league. Like, there was no way. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Oh, wow. Oh, wow. See, guys, this is what I'm talking about. She's hilarious. I love that she just, like, throws s*** at me. I love it. She devs. Ugh, we're so done with New Year, New You.
