Apparently, they met on Bumble.
Exactly what happened.
We matched on Bumble, and it was going really well.
We met for mini golf.
Hey, before we get into your whole date and everything, how long has it been since you saw Simone?
About a week.
About a week. About a week.
Okay, and how many times have you tried to reach out to her in that week?
Yeah, I reached out to her three times.
Three times, and you've heard nothing back.
All right, well, let's find out about the date then.
Tell us about your date with Simone.
Yeah, it was cool.
We went for mini golf, classic first date, right?
We had a couple drinks.
We watched a football game.
She's a Vols fan.
I'm a Vols fan.
So it was like, you know, it was fun.
It was like high energy, a lot of laughing.
She's a real good girl.
All right.
And so is that all you guys did?
You went mini golfed and then hung out and watched the football game?
Yeah.
I mean, what else do you need?
Like it's the first date, you know?
All right.
Well, then how did the date end?
Did you get a kiss?
You know, no hot and heavy kiss.
I think it was just a little hug, right?
We kept it PG.
Okay.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, if everything was so great,
then why do you think she's not calling you back?
Okay.
All right, so...
All right.
This sounds stupid, but...
So, she has family in the police department.
Like she,
he's like a police chief and like a neighboring town here.
And,
and it's her uncle and he always has background checks.
So she says like he,
he does a background check on everybody.
She dates,
he insists,
do it.
Oh wow.
And I get it.
Right.
I get it.
It's a dangerous world out there.
I get it.
Right.
But it's possible that when they checked in to me, I don't have anything crazy, right?
I just have normal, dumb stuff that you do as a kid.
I got three DUIs.
Oh.
But it was like seven years ago.
Three?
Three.
I haven't gotten three.
Is there a time to charm to stop?
Yeah. It was a wake-up call. You know? i had to spend six weeks locked up uh they yeah it cost me like 10 grand okay her right it would change my life
right it totally changed my life okay so obviously now you um you said it changed your life and you've
shaped up yeah i'm i'm on the straight and narrow.
I might have a drink or two every now and again.
Okay.
But I don't act like a kid anymore, right?
I'm not a kid anymore.
So when she told you that her uncle is a police officer and he usually checks, you know, whoever she's dating or whoever whoever she's dating that background what did you respond
because obviously at that point obviously at that point they're going to find out that you have three
duis did you come clean yeah yeah i totally came clean oh okay so i mean i i don't even know if
it's on my maybe it's even cleared by now you know it's been seven years so yeah how long does
that stuff stand i don't know i have no idea in record? I don't know. I have no idea actually.
I mean,
I don't know.
I think it would probably stay on if you had to like go to jail and stuff for a couple
of days,
especially if it's only three times.
Yeah.
So you're thinking maybe,
um,
maybe after the date she got the background check from her uncle and it showed that you
had three DUIs from seven years ago and that's why she's not calling you back.
I mean,
it's maybe, yeah, maybe. That you back? I mean, it's...
Maybe.
Yeah, maybe.
That's fair.
I mean, I could see that definitely being a reason.
Yeah, that sucks, but...
Did you break any laws on your date with her this time at all?
No.
No, right now.
We kept it under the speed limit.
Like, we're cheating.
We didn't even cheat on my scorecard.
Okay, for me to go...
All right, cool.
All right, well, we'll see if we can figure it out for you then.
We'll play a song, come back, and call her and try to find out why you're getting ghosted in your first date follow-up next.
Right in the middle of today's first date follow-up, if you're just joining us, Trevor is on the phone.
And Trevor isn't getting a call back from Simone.
They went out and played mini golf.
He says they had a great time.
They also watched the Volunteers football game.
That's Tennessee if you didn't
know. It's college. And they're both big fans of that team. So that was cool. Trevor said that he
really liked her a lot, but now she's ghosting him and it's been a week and a half. He's reached
out to her three times and heard nothing back. Trevor thinks that it might be because back in
the day, seven years ago, Trevor had three DUIs on his record. Simone has an uncle that I guess is a police chief in a nearby town,
and he does background checks on everybody that Simone goes out with.
So maybe after the date, Simone got the background check back and was like,
Oh, he's a hardened criminal, and I don't want to go out with him.
Maybe that's what happened, Trevor.
I mean, it is what it is.
So maybe that's why.
And so we're about to call her and see if that is the reason or if there's a different reason.
Here we go.
I'm going to dial the phone.
Are you ready, Trevor?
Ready.
All right, here we go.
Hello?
Hi, may I speak to Simone, please?
Hi, this is Simone.
Simone, what's up?
How are you?
This is the Jubal Show.
It's a radio show.
My name is Jubal.
Mine is Alex.
I'm Bennett.
Hi.
Hi.
We do a segment on the show.
It's called the First Date Follow-Up.
That's where if you go out on a date with someone and then you end up ghosting them,
they can email us to get you on the phone and find out why you're ghosting them.
And we got an email about you from a dude named Trevi.
Oh,
okay.
Yes.
I,
I know Trevor.
Okay.
Well,
Trevor is wondering why you're ghosting him.
Why I'm ghosting him.
Yeah.
Can you tell us,
do you have time to tell us?
Sure.
Sure.
I'll make some time.
Um,
so I don't know. I don't know if he told you, but my uncle is a police chief,
and so I have access to information that most people don't have.
And typically, I think before I go out with someone,
I would normally do a background check.
But he just seemed like such a good guy that I'm like,
I don't know, I guess I just wasn't in a hurry.
Well, big mistake, because I find out after the date, that actually was a pretty nice
date, that the guys had three, not one, not two, but three DUIs.
Okay.
I mean, that's insane.
Who has three DUIs?
Trevor.
Yes, yes, Trevor.
Oh, my God.
So that's why you're not calling him back then, because the three DUIs? Yes. Yes, Trevor. Oh, my God. So that's why you're not calling him back then?
Because the three DUIs?
Yes.
I mean, obviously, I have no respect for the law.
So that is the reason.
That's weird because we talked to Trevor about your date, and he speculated and thought that
the reason you are ghosting him might be the DUIs.
Usually, it's something that people don't know about.
So he was right on with that, huh?
Oh, yes. He was right on with that.
Why is he even bothering
calling if he figured that
out? I mean, come on. Well, he wasn't sure.
Hey, it's Benny. He said he told
you that he did have a DUI
on the date. Well, I don't know if it was
one, two, or three, but he said he had
DUIs on the date.
If the date ended well
why don't you know he texted me afterwards that he had three duis i think once he realized that
like that that i wasn't like responding to him i mean we talked like at the thing that i was like
hi like i normally do background text but this this time I decided not to.
Okay.
So, no chance on going out with him again because
he's got three DUIs, even if maybe he's
changed his ways?
There is something morally
wrong if you get
three DUIs.
Even if you change,
there's just something
mentally. You know what I mean?
Who does that? How long ago was his last one?
I don't know. I mean, it was
a while ago. Yes, I mean,
people grow up. They learn from their mistakes.
Exactly. You can't judge everyone by their
background. Trevor, how long ago was it?
Seven years.
What?
Oh, yeah. Trevor's on the phone. I should have told you that, Simone. He's on the phone i should have told you that simone
he's on the phone and wants to talk to you oh great
i don't want to blindside you like i'm sorry about that uh i like you know but i mean it's
people do stupid stuff when they're young i was young i just you didn't ever do anything stupid
like you didn't ever make any mistakes i yeah, but not mistakes like that with the law, like 3-D.
Why are you going to kill someone?
I mean, that's crazy.
Yeah, I live with that every day.
And that's part of what keeps me, you know, on a straight and narrow path now is thinking about that.
But I didn't, luckily, by the grace of God, I didn't kill anybody.
And now I live a pretty good life.
See how sweet he is now?
He grew up a little bit.
Right.
And he probably learned so much from this and became such a bigger and better person than he was seven years ago.
Well, are you still drinking or did you cut it out altogether?
I'm still drinking a little bit.
Oh, that's right.
You did say that you had a couple of drinks in there.
Okay.
So see, it's not like you just can't drink and hold it together.
You know, like he grew up a little bit.
I know.
Okay.
Yeah.
I mean, he does sound remorseful.
Honestly, like, I don't know what I would say to my uncle.
Like, you know, your uncle, like if he's unhappy, I mean, you can also tell him, hey, yeah.
I mean, I'm sure your uncle being a cop knows people that have changed their ways.
Probably.
But you liked Trevor, right i i did i i really liked you trevor yeah i mean i'm not trying to fuck into anything
i but i i liked you too like i had a really good time with you uh which it doesn't happen
every time you meet somebody new i don't think you click with everybody that you meet. Like,
like I feel like I clicked with you.
It's nice.
So,
and you know what?
Maybe I should have been even more open about my past,
but it was our first date.
You know,
I don't want to lay out all the worst things on the very first date,
you know?
Okay.
I get that.
I guess,
I guess my problem is I'm just kicking myself for not having done the background check beforehand,
which this is the first time this has happened.
What if that's what he's talking about?
Maybe so.
Maybe so.
Oh, my gosh.
I haven't been in trouble with the law.
I haven't seen a pair of handcuffs from a police officer in seven years
i mean this is just so hard i've never dated a criminal
he's not a criminal all right so isn't there something just a little bit exciting about
dating somebody different um i don't know about that but i I do know you really sound like a genuinely nice guy.
And I'm feeling really mean to not give you a second chance.
Okay, well then would you like to go out with him on another date?
We'll pay for it.
Woo!
Why not?
Yay!
Congratulations, Trevor.
We did it.
Okay, yeah, great.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
I'm looking forward to this. This is cool.
Yeah, congratulations. And don't try not to get arrested in the meantime before you guys go out again, okay?
Definitely don't get arrested.
