First date follow up.
I don't know how the guy on the phone for our first date follow up today.
Isn't getting a call back from the girl that he went on a few dates with.
Okay.
His date included a wet t-shirt contest.
Whoa.
That sounds fun.
And she was the star of it.
Wow.
Sort of, I think.
I don't know.
I read the email, but let's ask Troy about the situation before we get into the wet t-shirt contest.
Troy, tell us a little bit about the girl you want to call today.
What's her name?
Are you live from Cabo?
No, guys, I'm not.
It was not a wet t-shirt contest.
I didn't mean for that.
So her name is Laura.
Laura, okay.
And tell us a little bit about good old Laura,
who's not calling you back.
Yeah, we met online on one of the apps,
and we decided let's just go to dinner, really, we met online on one of the apps.
Let's just go to dinner, really, was what we wanted to do.
But she was really pretty.
She seemed very sweet, very easy to talk to.
So I was like, this will be great.
I was very excited for that.
Okay.
And obviously something happened that wasn't great because she's not calling you back now, right?
Yeah.
So I had a little an oopsie.
An oopsie moment?
A little oopsie moment?
What happened?
Well, I accidentally knocked
her water off
and the water fell on her.
She got wet.
That's embarrassing.
That's what I say.
It's really embarrassing.
Well, it's embarrassing
unless you know how to look
at the positive side of life.
Like, right?
Which is?
A wet t-shirt contest.
Yeah, I mean,
maybe I should have looked at it that way.
I thought it might be a pretty funny moment,
but I guess, yeah,
it didn't really work out that way, unfortunately.
No, I mean,
I would be really embarrassed
to spill it on myself,
let alone my date.
Yeah.
If I spilled a drink on my date, on accident, if I did it on purpose, there's probably a weird thing going on.
Yeah, if I did it on accident, I would feel really bad about that.
Did she seem upset after?
And I mean, I'm hoping you apologize and stuff.
No, I did apologize.
Yeah.
And I just I felt terrible.
I just I don't think I really helped much either.
You know, I didn't really remedy the situation, I think.
Did you spill it on her towards the end of the day or the beginning?
It was kind of like halfway through.
So she just had to sit there.
Yeah, and you didn't help remedy the situation.
What do you mean by that?
You didn't, like, apologize enough?
Did you laugh?
So, well, when I uh spilled the water on her the thing is like you know you have like that quick reaction of like
a laugh that followed it but it was forced like i didn't mean to laugh okay okay so you spilled
water and then laughed about it and she probably wasn't amused was she laughing yeah so she uh she
wasn't exactly amused she was definitely not laughing when I was.
Oh, what a surprise.
Weird.
So you think that that's the reason she's not calling you back is the spilled water?
Did you recover from that?
Yeah, I couldn't really recover from it.
I felt bad, and I think the tone just totally shifted from that point.
So I would have to say it's got to be that.
Okay.
So has she tried to contact you at all since the date?
No, no, I haven't heard a word.
I haven't, no, not a single thing from her, unfortunately, no.
And you have tried to either text or call her, I'm assuming?
I did the good old triple text, actually.
Oh, God.
All right.
No wonder she's not talking to you.
Yeah, you gave her the old triple text and no response.
Did you guys leave on good terms at least?
I mean, we hugged, but again, I kind of avoided getting the water.
I mean, she was so wet, so it wasn't a great hug.
Okay, so all in all, not a great date, but you do want to see her again.
Yeah, I'd love to see her again.
Honestly, I felt like we did have a really good connection
and she had kind of the same sense of humor as me.
So I'm just, I'd really try to try that again if I could.
Yeah, I can tell you guys have the same sense of humor
when you laughed to spill on the water
and she didn't laugh at all, according to your story.
I'm better than that, I promise.
Okay.
It could be funny though.
I mean, like I've been in a situation
where I've laughed on accident.
So I feel ya.
Thank you. You're welcome. All right, we'll'll play a song come back and find out what happened and
see if we can get you another date with your first date follow-up all right awesome thank
you guys really appreciate it yeah we'll do it next it's a jubile show usually when a date
involves the word wet it's a good thing but not today troy is on the phone for a first date follow-up and he got his date soaking wet
because he accidentally spilled water on her.
And she didn't seem to think it was funny.
And when he accidentally spilled water on her,
I guess he let out a little bit of a laugh on accident.
And so it just really didn't sound like the date went well,
but Troy did like her a lot
and thought they had a great connection until that point.
So we're about to call her and find out if it was the water spilling that went wrong.
I think it might be.
I think probably that's got to be it.
I don't know what else it could be.
And if that's the reason that she doesn't want to see him again and maybe see if we can get him another date.
All right, Troy.
Are you ready?
Yeah, a little nervous, but I'm good to go.
I'm going to call her right now and see if we can figure it out.
Here we go. I'm going to call her right now and see if we can figure it out. Here we go.
Hello?
Hi, may I speak to Laura, please?
This is her.
Hey, Laura, how are you?
This is Jubal from The Jubal Show.
And this is Alex from The Jubal Show.
And this is Evan from The Jubal Show.
Hi.
Hi.
Hi.
Hello.
Do you know what is going on right now at all?
Have you ever heard of The Jubal Show before?
I've heard of it, but I don't know why you're calling me. I'm calling you today because we got an email about you from one of our listeners. Have you heard the segment we do called the first date follow-up?
Oh boy. I'm guessing that's a yes. You go out on a date with someone and then you end up ghosting
them. They can email us to get you on the phone and find out what happened. And guess what, Laura? Oh, I could just imagine.
Who is it? We got an email about you and any idea who it could be.
I don't even want to even try to guess. There's so many. Yeah, there are a lot of dates you've
been on recently. Well, not many good ones, that's for sure.
All right.
Well, I'll just tell you.
It's a guy named Troy.
Oh, him.
Oh, him.
Okay.
He spilled water on you on your date.
Remember that?
Oh, yes.
I remember that.
Did you like Troy at all?
You know, at first, everything was great, but no.
No, okay.
Why?
So he said that you guys met online and talked for a little while before you went out.
Up to that point, you liked him?
Yeah, yeah.
Okay, so it was just the date was not good for you.
Yeah, no, it was really not good.
Was it the spilling of the water?
Because that would definitely mess up my date.
Yeah, I mean, he spilled water on me.
But, you know, I don't know what he's told you.
He laughed about it.
But that wasn't even the biggest issue.
Yeah, there's another issue.
Oh, yes, there is definitely another reason.
Did he tell you why he spilled the water on me?
I mean, he said it was an accident.
I mean, I figure it was an accident. Does he hate you? I mean, he said it was an accident. I mean, I figure it was an accident.
Does he hate you?
He just said it was an accident.
No, so that cheapskate reached into his pocket
and pulled out one of those airplane bottles of alcohol
to put into his Coke and accidentally hit my water lap.
What?
No.
People actually do that?
He left that out.
He didn't say that that's how he spilled it. He
just said he accidentally spilled it. He was filling up his Coke with an airplane shot.
People actually do that. Yep. Yep. Oh, wow. Yeah. I wouldn't call him back either. Yeah.
That's so embarrassing. I'm sorry. On the first date. Yeah. So then I asked him about it and
he said he does it all the time because the drinks are so expensive and then he asked me
if i want some wow i bet he does yeah troy sounds like he's in a frat in college but like right now
but drinks are expensive in restaurants though they are okay but that's like a movie theater
you bring your own stuff in i mean no it's not the same drink so okay so that's why you're not
calling him back the water spilling and also the fact that he brings his own alcohol to restaurants.
I'm pretty sure it's just because he brings his own alcohol to restaurants.
Yes, it's that he brings his own alcohol to restaurants.
Okay.
All right, well, thank you for telling us that, Laura.
And now I need to remind you of something that you might already know
based on the fact that you listen to the show sometimes.
Troy is actually on the line listening and wants to talk to you.
Oh, my God, I forgot.
Troy, are you still there?
Yeah, yeah, I'm here. I'm still here.
You forgot a very important piece of information.
You've got some explaining to do.
I always forget to.
Well, here's the thing, and I've heard you understand this,
is that alcohol is expensive.
And honestly, I haven't really been employed for a while.
So I'm just trying to be as frugal as I can while taking her on a nice date.
I'm sorry I offered some alcohol.
I thought it would lighten the mood.
Is Laura still there on the phone?
Yeah, I'm still here.
Okay.
I don't understand why you would even ask someone out on a date if you can't afford to pay for the dinner.
I tried to just do it on the cheap.
Again, it's just money's tight and everything is very expensive.
I wanted to show you a nice date, but I also wanted to do it in a way that wouldn't break my bank.
Wait a minute.
Wait.
Hold on a second.
You told me you're working at the same place for five years.
Oh.
Oh, Troy.
Troy?
Well, I mean, it's just, it's not that.
It's more of like I...
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay, okay, okay.
Okay.
So, Troy, did you lose your job and that's why you're doing it?
Or do you have the same job for five years like you told Laura and you just do it because
you don't want to spend money?
I'm trying to save up for retirement, okay?
So I try to save money wherever I can.
Penny pincher.
You don't sound that old.
Yeah.
So it's a money thing,
and also, did you just lie about losing your job
to try to make it okay?
Because that's what it sounds like.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Just admits it.
Come on, man. What are you doing? It's a dirty little secret, too. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Just admits it.
Come on, man.
What are you doing? It's a dirty little secret too.
Yeah.
Yeah, look, all right.
I'm sorry I lied about the job thing, and I'm sorry it was about them.
It's just the fact of it is I'm just trying to save money.
That's all it is.
And, Laura, you just seemed really sweet,
and I was thinking maybe there could be some future there,
all the more reason to save for a nice future that you would deserve.
You know, you can't start a relationship off on a lie.
So I don't know what to tell you, but I'm not interested.
Well, let's not rush things, Laura, because I do want to ask you if you'll go on another date with Troy.
Will pay for it?
No.
Do you want to think on it for it? No. Okay.
Do you want to think on it at all?
No.
No.
Right.
Got it.
I'm pretty clear on that.
Troy, are you clear on that as well?
Yeah, Crystal, thank you.
All right.
Well, Troy, do me a favor.
Do the next dating thing.
Like, I love the idea of saving money.
I think I'm going to start doing that from now on with airplane shots.
But be honest. Be honest
on your dates and maybe, you know,
I don't know. Keep doing that if you want to, but at least
be honest and own it, okay?
Yeah.
Find someone who's likewise. Yeah, you can find someone out there
who likes the same thing. Likes to save money.
Likes to save money, take airplane shots and go to a restaurant.
I think it's kind of sweet, honestly. Yeah, I think it's kind of nice.
Evan would be one. Yeah, I would do that.
Laura, are you still there?
Yeah, I'm here.
Okay, based on all that,
now that we've come around on,
Troy, Laura,
would you like to go out
on another date with him?
Come on.
Uh, no.
