Ugh, we're so done with New Year, New You.
This year, it's more you on Bumble.
More of you shamelessly sending playlists, especially that one filled with show tunes.
More of you finding Gemini's because you know you always like them.
More of you dating with intention because you know what you want.
And you know what? We love that for you.
Someone else will too.
Be more you this year and find them on Bumble.
Consider this is a daily news podcast, and lately, the news is about a big question.
How much can one guy change?
They want change.
What will change look like for energy?
Drill, baby, drill.
Schools?
Take the Department of Education, close it.
Health care?
Better and less expensive.
Follow coverage of a changing country.
Promises made, promises kept.
We're going to keep our promises.

Hey, everyone.
It's Katie Couric.
Well, the election is in the homestretch, right in time for a new season of
my podcast, Next Question. I'm bringing in some FOKs, friends of Katie's, to help me out, like
Ezra Klein, Jen Psaki, Astead Herndon. But we're also going to have some fun, thanks to some of my
friends like Samantha Bee and Charlemagne the God. We're going to take some viewer questions as well.
I mean, isn't that what democracy is all about?

First date follow-up.
Katie is on the phone for a first date follow-up, and she blames Instagram.
Instagram.
For not getting a call back from a
guy that she went out with. It's always Instagram. It's always the gram, right? We'll find out right
now, but apparently Edie went on a date with a dude named Art. Now he's not calling her back
and it's all Instagram's fault. Is that right, Edie? Yes. I blame Instagram. What did Instagram do?
Well, I felt like the date was really great.
We had chemistry, you know, like when you feel like that little electricity across the table.
Yeah, and I felt like, you know, like we had a lot of things in common, like as far as music.
What kind of music do you guys like?
Well, we love going to live shows and we were talking about how much
it changed and how, you know, there's things online and, you know, zoom conversations and
zoom happy hour. And like, I just, I don't know, this guy just seemed like so easy to talk to
and everything. Just the conversation wasn't awkward. I'm usually nervous. He pulled out my
chair, made sure that I ordered first.
He asked, do you want me to order for you?
Because some women are like, oh, me, you know, women's lib.
I want to order for myself.
And I'm like, no, I think that's sweet.
You know, he was very old school, which I love.
Is he actually old or?
He's 92.
Found him on the senior dating site.
Okay.
So he's,
he's like your age.
He's not just an old guy who maybe doesn't know how to work a phone and
that's why he's not getting back to you.
So you said that you think that Instagram might've ruined your date or the,
is the reason that he's not calling you back.
Why?
I don't know.
I just felt like the chemistry was great,
but I tend to take selfies.
Sometimes my friends, when we go to happy hour, we're together.
They're like, oh my God, Edie, enough with the pictures.
But I like to capture all the moments, you know?
And I thought, well, maybe that was annoying to him because it wasn't just of me.
Oh, you were taking pictures on your date?
At the date?
Yeah.
And maybe I got carried away taking pictures, you know?
People get annoyed by that.
Yeah.
On a first date, I could see how that might be a little strange.
Were you taking pictures of, like, yourself or both of you?
Like, us at the table, my food, sometimes of myself.
Taking pictures of everything, basically.
Yeah.
Yeah, like, of the date.
I like to post on Instagram a lot.
There are some people, lots of girls, who take lots of pictures.
And there are lots of guys who don't like that.
They get annoyed.
Did he seem awkward about that?
He didn't say anything.
He just was at first a little nervous.
Like, oh, me too?
Like, okay, let me wipe my mouth.
And then I thought, oh, maybe that's what it is.
Honestly, I would have
two thoughts if I was on a first date with
somebody. This is the first time you guys went out, right?
Yeah. I would have two thoughts
if somebody started taking selfies of me. I'd say
one would be, all right,
they have a boyfriend or somebody they're trying to
make jealous. Oh, trying to get back. Trying to get back
with them. That would be one thought. And the
other thought would be like, whoa, they think
I'm like
that cool that they want to take a picture with me already? Boyfriend material. That's awesome.
Like compliment to me. That would probably be more what I would think than anything, you know,
like, wow, they're on a date with me and they think that I'm that good that they would want
to take a selfie with me. That's cool. This date is going great. Yeah, that's, that's the idea.
Like, look at this cute guy. Lucky me. Look at this awesome filet steak.
And you don't think he felt that way?
I mean, he didn't mention anything.
And I mean, the chemistry was there.
We like made out and stuff.
Okay, so how long before you guys met?
Did you guys talk before you met?
Yeah, that's another thing.
We would text on the phone and I'd be like,
oh my God, did you see that new music video? And what are you watching these days? And he would be really quick to respond, but lately it's like crickets. I mean, he didn't really seem annoyed or upset with me taking pictures.
Normally when I'm annoyed with somebody, I don't make out with them.
No. Or I don't ghost them.
Right. If I make out, well, I don't make out with them. No. Or I don't ghost them. Right.
If I make out, well, actually never.
Yeah, I guess I've made out with people and not talked to them after too.
So he hasn't texted you back at all since the date or you guys have talked a little bit?
There was one text, but I noticed it was like a couple days later and it was more like the polite response.
Yeah.
Where it was like all day, you know, when you're like talking throughout the day and it
doesn't seem weird right oh they're gonna text me back and it felt like why is he not texting me
back so he doesn't seem into it anymore yeah and i just want to know why because i really liked him
a lot okay well we'll play a song come back and call him and see if we can figure it out for you
all right thanks guys all right we'll do it next it's a jal show. Right in the middle of your first date follow-up,
if you're just joining us,
Edie is on the phone,
and Edie isn't getting a call back from a dude named Art.
They went out to dinner.
She says she had a great time
and that they even made out at the end of the date.
But for some reason, he's not calling her back now,
and she thinks that maybe it's because
she was taking too many pictures on their date,
and he got annoyed.
Let me take a selfie.
Yeah, she was taking a selfie.
A lot of selfies, a lot of pictures.
And you said he didn't seem annoyed, though, at that, right?
Yeah, he didn't really.
I mean, he was a little thrown, but then he smiled and he was into it
and he posed for the picture.
Wait, he posted it?
Oh, posed.
Oh, posed.
Okay. I don't know if that's the reason. Okay. Wait, he posted it? Oh, posed. Posed. Oh, posed. Okay.
I don't know if that's the reason.
We'll figure it out.
I mean, you guys did make out
and haven't talked to him since,
so I'm going to dial this phone number right now,
get him on the phone,
and see if we can figure it out for you, okay?
Okay.
All right, here we go.
One second. Hello?
Can I speak to Art, please?
Who's this?
Art, how are you?
This is Jubal from The Jubal Show.
As a matter of fact, it's just the whole Jubal Show.
My name's Jubal.
My name's Alex.
My name's Evan. Oh, wow. Okay. Hello.
How are you? How's it going? Oh, what's this about?
So you know The Jubal Show? Yeah, I've heard you guys before.
Oh, okay. I've heard some funny stuff coming from you guys. Alright.
Is it weird that we'd call you? Yeah, I mean, I haven't signed up for any contests or anything,
so I'm a little trying to understand what's going on.
Yeah, well, we're calling you because
we got an email about you from someone who listens to the show.
Who emailed you about me?
Her name is
Edie. Do you know why we would
be calling you about Edie?
Oh.
Oh.
Yeah, that's...
Yeah, I might know what this is about then.
Okay.
Well, I mean, you might know.
You probably do know.
You should know.
You're ghosting Edie.
I'll just tell you what it is.
Well, I just had a date with her
and things were interesting.
That's what I was trying to tell you
is that this is a first date follow-up where if you
got on a date with someone and then
they don't call you back after they email
us to get you on the phone and find out what happened.
But you already know that. So Edie
sent an email asking why you're not calling
her back.
Well, I liked her.
Things
were pretty good on our date but
she was a little aggressive for me.
Aggressive?
Well, she did tell us that she took a bunch of pictures.
So was it like, you know.
Too many?
Yeah.
No, no, nothing like that.
She's a really aggressive kisser.
Aggressive kisser?
Really?
Yeah, like we were walking and then kissing and things were like nice at first.
And then we were stopping and getting to it a little bit more.
And she started biting a lot more.
And then I did this thing where she bit my tongue and like sucked it in her mouth.
You don't like that?
Well, I mean, she tore my frenulum a little bit.
And I've been having this pain still.
It's been a couple of days later, and I got pain.
Hold on.
She did what?
To your what?
Tore my frenulum.
What is that?
The under part of your tongue.
It's that little under part of your tongue.
Why do you know the name of that thing?
Because she tore my frenulum, and I went to the doctor, and they explained to me what
the issue was.
Apparently, frenulum is the under part of your tongue and the thing that falls in the
back of your throat.
Wow.
That's handy, actually.
I've torn mine before.
Ouch.
Really?
Was it from kissing?
No, no, not from kissing.
I was standing on a chair and fell onto my keyboard.
Not as fun as kissing.
Wait, so how did that happen, though?
Well, she sucked my tongue into her mouth,
and she did it like, I guess apparently
I have a really short one.
So it was already actually a disadvantage
for me.
Wow.
Alright, so you learned from dating her that you have a short
tongue and you learned what a frenulum
is and we've all now learned what a frenulum
is if you didn't know.
And that's the reason you're not calling her back because she was just too rough of a
kisser for you.
Toil your frenulum. Yeah, it was my for you? Well, I mean, I guess. Told your friend, Neil.
I mean, yeah, it was my mouth filled with blood.
I mean, at one point, I was trying to be nice about it.
And she'd walk a little bit ahead.
I'd backtrack a little and then spit blood onto the concrete.
No freaking way.
Oh, my God.
That's nuts.
And try to walk her back.
But it was just like, oh, my gosh, it was in pain.
Oh, wow.
I've never heard of that happening from
kissing. I've never heard of that before.
I'm trying to figure out how that even
can happen. Yeah, and let me tell you,
there's a lot of blood. Dang.
Yeah. I want to figure out how it can happen
too, and I think that we should just
ask Edie, who's on the phone listening.
Don't you think? Yeah, I think so.
Oh my God.
I feel awful.
This is so embarrassing.
I can't believe I did that to you.
Yeah.
I'm so sorry.
Oh, my God.
That sounds awful.
You told me my kiss was salty, and I was just like, in my mind, I was just like, your kiss is teethy.
Wait, so I, like, had your blood in my mouth?
I mean, a little bit.
I didn't even think about that.
Just a little bit's fine.
But, I mean, you sucked his short tongue too hard, Edie.
That's why.
You freak.
It's not like he did it on purpose.
I swear I wasn't trying to eat your face.
I guess I was just really into it and excited, and I lost myself.
Well, it might not be your fault because he said he has a short tongue.
Yeah.
It's more of a genetic thing.
Honestly, Art, you should know if you have a short tongue, you should be aware of that
and you should warn the person that you're kissing. Need like a disclaimer.
This is the first time.
Yeah.
Yeah, you did, Edie. I mean, I had
to go to the doctor and
my tongue was all swollen, so
I needed to
get it addressed, but at least it's doing a little bit
better now. It was only a
minor one. It wasn't like an extreme, but it was just enough to tear it a little.
Oh my God.
I feel like I should send you like a care package with like ice packs or
something.
Maybe some selfies.
Yeah.
Hey,
honestly, it kind of still hurts because we're talking a lot.
Oh yeah.
I'm sorry.
I'm forcing you to talk more.
So how about we just wrap this up then.
I'm so sorry.
Art, even though she damaged your tongue, would you like to go on another date with Edie?
We'll pay for it.
I mean, if she's going to be a little less aggressive with the making out, then yeah.
Yeah, I'll do it again.
Oh, good.
Awesome.
I promise no kissing until you are better and I'll calm down.
Maybe slower, slower kissing and we'll work on the sucking tongue.
Oh, my God.
Oh, my God.
That's so embarrassing.
