Listen to Hasta Bajo on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Elf Beauty, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. You have to be very careful with tradition
Starting point is 00:01:42 because sometimes tradition is just dead people's baggage. I'm Jamel Hill, host of the Sports and Politics podcast, Spolitics. On this week's episode, I talk with comedian Roy Wood Jr. about the lack of African-American star power in Major League Baseball. Baseball needs an Anthony Edwards. And I don't know who that could be. Mookie Betts is Steph Curry. He's exceptional and likable, million dollar smile, but you also need chaos, Negro.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Listen to Spalitix on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. First date follow-up. Powered by the Advocates Injury Attorneys. Online at AdvocatesLaw.com. Craig is on the phone today for a first date follow up and he's getting ghosted by Bailey. So in a few minutes, we're going to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him another date. But first, Craig, what's
Starting point is 00:02:34 up? How long has it been since you heard from Bailey? It's been about a week. Okay. Seems like the sweet spot, you know, in that week, did you try to reach out to her at all? Yeah, I have. I don't know. I don't know what's going on. What's happening.
Starting point is 00:02:48 I thought it went really well. So I don't know. I'm not sure why she's not getting back to me. Okay. What'd y'all do? Um, we went to, uh, we went to this restaurant on the water. I would say a sesquipoo place. Nice.
Starting point is 00:03:01 Yeah. They have like great appetizers and stuff. And, and then we talked a lot and I mean she did bring tarot cards To the date like to do a reading Yeah, but she really didn't know how to use them. So it was kind of like fun and it was kind of like a like an icebreaker type deal, okay, and Yeah, and we were both like making up stories about what our future would be like and it was cool We can we kind of just like you know, um talked about how much kids we wanted and go up on a farm
Starting point is 00:03:31 it was fun it was like we both she was saying we're saying something similar as well and Yeah, then it was going everything's all great and we walked I walked with her car and we kind of you know made out the parking lot and we did for a while and it was great and then I don't know and I want to give it you know get a hold of her she's like really really fun she's like really fun fun painting that person which I'm really like looking for right now and I really like the excitement she brings Did anything happen on the date that was awkward at all? Yeah a little bit Okay, the way said that sound like yeah, there was this huge thing
Starting point is 00:04:14 Afterwards I realized I'm actually I'm kind of embarrassed by it actually because when I got home I realized like I spilled olive oil on my on my pants like my mom, from the bread from like my crotch area. Okay. And I didn't notice that all until like, until I got home. So the only thing I'm thinking of, I'm afraid if she thought like, you know, I peed myself or like something worse from the make out, I got too excited. Oh, was this a, so it's a big oil stain that was on your pants?
Starting point is 00:04:46 Yeah, it's because I dropped bread on me and the bread was had a lot of oil on it. Yeah. And I didn't I didn't even know I would have talked. I would have mentioned I didn't even know. So that's the only thing I think why she might be might be calling me back. Especially if it's in a certain area. I mean, it can look awkward. Yeah. And I tried like on the next day she didn't answer. Yeah, I don't know if it's a pants or something else. I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:13 And you said you've texted her. What did you say? I was just like hey, how's it going? I had fun. But like I'd love to do that again. I like you a lot. Yeah, you can't really explain over text. I feel like if I got a message, like a guy trying to explain what that was, I don't know how I'd react. Well, especially if she didn't see it. Maybe she did. I don't wanna like take a picture of my pants.
Starting point is 00:05:34 But like, hey, about that, I think that would be kinda weird. All right. Well, yeah, that would be worse probably. Fair point, Craig, fair point. Hey, well, I wanna talk to you about this. What is this? All right, we'll play a song, come back and then call her. See if she'll tell us why she's ghosting you and maybe get you another date. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Okay. Great. All right, we'll play a song, come back, get your first day follow up next. We live in a divided country. I am a lifelong Republican. With all kinds of different people. You know, I'm a mother, I'm a grandmother. That's why we started The Middle with Jeremy Hobson.
Starting point is 00:06:07 It's about bringing voices, not from the extremes, but from the vast middle into the national conversation. Anna, I'm calling from Las Vegas. Each week, we bring together an all-star panel. Mark Cuban, so great to have you on The Middle. Thanks for having me, Jeremy. Neil deGrasse Tyson, welcome to The Middle. Thanks for having me.
Starting point is 00:06:24 And hear from ordinary Americans from all over the country on the most important issues. Great to have you on The Middle. Thanks for having me, Jeremy. Neil deGrasse Tyson, welcome to The Middle. Thanks for having me. And hear from ordinary Americans from all over the country on the most important issues. Hi, my name is Venkat. I'm calling you from Atlanta, Georgia. And when you subscribe to The Middle, you also get an episode each week called One Thing Trump Did that focuses on just one item from the avalanche of news. We should be examining what our government spends its money on and are these jobs necessary and what are we doing here? But that doesn't seem to be what we're doing in this situation.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Listen to The Middle with Jeremy Hobson on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Are we ready to fight? I'm ready to fight. As you wish. Is that what I thought it was? Oh, this is fighting words. Okay, I'll put the hammer back. Hi, I'm George M. Johnson, a bestselling author with the second most banned book in America.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Now more than ever, we need to use our voices to fight back. And that's what we're doing on Fighting Words. We're not going to let anyone silence us. That's the reason why they're banning books like yours, George. That's the reason why they're trying to stop the teaching of Black history or queer history, any history that challenges the whitewash norm. Or put us in a box. Black people have never, ever, depended on the so-called mainstream to support us.
Starting point is 00:07:39 That's why we are great. We are the greatest culture makers in world history. Listen to Fighting Words on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Something about Mary Poppins? Something about Mary Poppins, exactly. Oh man, this is fun. I'm AJ Jacobs and I am an author and a journalist and I tend to get obsessed with stuff.
Starting point is 00:08:08 And my current obsession is puzzles. And that has given birth to my podcast, The Puzzler. Dressing. Dressing. Oh, French dressing. Exactly. Oh, that was good! Now you can get your Daily Puzzle Nuggets delivered straight to your ears. I thought to myself, I bet I know what this is.
Starting point is 00:08:32 And now I definitely know what this is. This is so weird. This is fun. Let's try this one. Our brand new season features special guests like Chuck Bryant, Mayim Bialik, Julie Bowen, Sam Sanders, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and lots more. Listen to The Puzzler every day on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
Starting point is 00:08:54 podcasts. That's awful. And I should have seen it coming. You have to be very careful with tradition because sometimes tradition is just dead people's baggage. I'm Jamel Hill, host of the Sports and Politics podcast, Spolitics. On this week's episode, I talk with comedian and CNN host Roy Wood Jr. about the lack of African-American star power in Major League Baseball.
Starting point is 00:09:20 Baseball needs an Anthony Edwards. And I don't know who that could be. Mookie Betts is Steph Curry. He's exceptional and likeable million-dollar smile. That's important. But you also need Chaos Negro. You need... So you think Anthony Edwards is a Chaos agent? He told, he talked, you saw the clip of him talking to Obama.
Starting point is 00:09:44 He was talking to Obama like that was his little brother. Oh yeah, you, what you did, you killed Ben Laden. That's what's up. Listen to Spolitics on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. First date follow-up. Powered by the Advocates Injury Attorneys. Online at AdvocatesLaw.com.
Starting point is 00:10:04 Right in the middle of your first date follow-up, and if you're just joining us, Craig is on the phone, and we're about to call Bailey, a girl that he went out with who's now ghosting him, and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him, and maybe get him another date. But before we do that, Craig, why don't you catch everybody up on your situation?
Starting point is 00:10:18 Yeah, I went out with this girl, Bailey. We had a lot of fun, went to a seafood place. We played tarot cards, messed around, joked around, made out a little bit. I think it went well. I think everything went well until I got home and I realized I had some oil from the bread and I spilled on my pants and I just spit in the microchip area and it didn't look great. So I got a call, texted, I haven't heard back. So, I don't know, she's kind of, she's ghosting me.
Starting point is 00:10:48 I'm so sorry I'm laughing, but that's, I mean, come on. That's gotta be kind of funny. Yeah, I mean it is. Even if she is ghosting you because of that, it's still pretty funny. I know it is, 100%. All right, you ready for us to call her? Yeah, sure, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:01 Okay, here we go. Yeah, sure. Yeah. OK, here we go. Hello. Hi, may I speak to Bailey, please? Yeah, this is she. Hi, Bailey. How are you? My name is Jubal and this is a radio show. It's called The Jubal Show.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Hi, the whole show is here. I'm Nina. Hi, and I'm Victoria. Oh, hi. I'm good. Hi and I'm Victoria. Oh hi I'm good. Hi guys thanks for calling I guess. Yeah have you listened to the show before? Yeah. Cool so we're calling because this is a first date follow-up where if you go on a date with somebody and you end up ghosting them they can get you they can have us get you on the phone and ask why you're ghosting them and you're currently ghosting somebody. Okay, maybe.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Do you have any idea who would email us? Well, you know, casually, you know, I've met some people so I'm not exactly sure. Okay, Bailey's busy. So it could be a number of people you want to throw out a name? Okay, let's see. Is it Craig? Yes! Congratulations! You did win something. You got that right. It's Craig.
Starting point is 00:12:10 He emailed us and told us about your date and he says that you haven't talked to him for a week and he's wondering if you'll tell us why. Um... I mean it actually might kind of sound super stupid but yeah I guess I have been avoiding him.
Starting point is 00:12:25 So I didn't like his shoes. What was wrong with his shoes? He was wearing these like, um, these like half sneaker kind of like half hiking boot kind of shoe. Uh huh. You know, two-part date and, um, and he just felt a little too like, you know, crunchy granola for me. Crunchy granola. Okay. You know, there's, you know, crunchy granola for me. Crunchy granola.
Starting point is 00:12:45 Okay. You know, there's like that type, the granola guy. I don't know. That shouldn't be a big deal. I know that sounds, probably a lot of people think that sounds super stupid. But for me at this point in my life, like, it just seems like that's his vibe. And I'm like way too tired and like I'm getting older like to try to change a man and like make a man fit into like The kind of style in life that I would live and and to change how he acts or how he dresses
Starting point is 00:13:12 So yeah I just feel like I'm past that like teaching stage of my life and I just want to find a man Who is like an already trained ready to be like the way that I like them So you don't want to have to train a dude again to get into. Yeah, like, let's be real. We all know we train our men. I mean, come on, like, you know, the drastic, like women kind of, you know, we train our dudes to be in the way that we like our dude.
Starting point is 00:13:36 And it just seemed like I'd have to work too hard to try to change him. And I shouldn't want to have to change somebody from who they are. You shouldn't. Yeah, you're right there. You shouldn't want to do that. I mean, I get wanting to influence somebody. Like if you really like somebody and you really hate their shoes, I mean, there's definitely a way to be like,
Starting point is 00:13:51 babe, you know, you'd look really cute in. I know and that seems simple, but it just seems like the way of life. I know, I guess I just felt like I was like, oh, this is going to take like months, years of like, trying to like maybe make you be the dude that I'm usually into but is not your style. So at this point I was just like, eh, you know what? Forget it.
Starting point is 00:14:11 Like he was actually super hot. I had a great time with them. I just, yeah, after that I was just like, this isn't going to go past the first date. Did you know that Craig is on the phone listening and wants to talk to you? No. Well, he is. Well, he is. Well, hi, hello.
Starting point is 00:14:29 Hi, how are you doing? I mean, good. I'm sorry that you had to hear all that. It's nothing personal. I think it's kind of shallow, to be honest, especially like over shoes, like I have other pairs of shoes. I mean, yeah, I mean, I think it's, I don't know how you judge someone based off one, a parent's one date, but I guess that's your
Starting point is 00:14:50 thing. It's kind of what you do. So. Well, I mean, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, of course he made out, you know, like I had two glasses of Chardonnay and you were there, you know, like makeups are just like innocent and fun. Like I think maybe by us kissing, you probably thought it would be more serious after that. Like, I don't know, it didn't have to mean anything. Like I just thought it was a one great date and that was a great time, but that we just like leave it at that. Okay. I mean that. Okay. I mean, that's, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:15:26 I mean, I guess you had a lot of past trauma about training guys or whatever that, whatever that means. Um, but there was just a pair of shoes. So, I mean, it's fine. It's cool. No worries. Um, I hope you, uh, you know, bring, bring a pair of shoes to your next date. Do you want the guy to wear?
Starting point is 00:15:43 So you feel more comfortable. Yeah. I mean, I wouldn't really need to bring the shoes. I was obviously looking for a man who would just like, no, it's how to dress on a date is what I kind of mean. Like, um, I mean, you do you, I'm sure you have plenty of other great shoes. Then like, why was that like the choice to represent who you are on date one? So I wouldn't say this is all on me.
Starting point is 00:16:05 Just like, I don't think it has anything to do with trauma. It's just called. I don't want to waste my time on someone you like. He's been really putting the thought in on a date. I mean, I think a lot of girls like what I wear. I mean, I didn't like your I don't like your makeup. It was really sloppy, but I wasn't trying to end the entire relationship because you couldn't you don't know how to put on makeup. I guess that's your thing.
Starting point is 00:16:25 So, you know, I just thought you had a bad makeup day. I wasn't, I want to see how well you did the next time. But I guess we're not doing that, so. Now, and like you said, you'll find, you said there's 28 girls who like your shoes. So definitely go find one of them and you'll have a second date, I'm sure. Are we sure about that?
Starting point is 00:16:42 Bailey, would you like another date with Craig? We'll pay for it. No, I'm good. I we sure about that? Bailey, would you like another date with Craig? We'll pay for it. No, I'm good. I, you know, I like somebody who really wants to bring it and wants to respect me on the date. I'll pass. No, I'm good as well. I'd rather not go on a second date.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Someone who's empty and shallow, has trauma over shoes and shirts and the very questionable makeup choices. Okay. Jubal's first date follow-up. We live in a divided country, and our media couldn't be more polarizing. That's why we started The Middle with Jeremy Hobson. It's about bringing voices not from the extremes,
