Starting point is 00:00:28 or wherever you get your podcasts. First date of follow-up, powered by the advocates injury attorneys, online at advocateslaw.com. Evan is on the phone today for our first date follow-up and he's getting ghosted by Claire. So in a second, we're gonna call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him
Starting point is 00:00:44 and maybe get him another date. But first, Evan, how long has it been since you heard from Claire? A month probably. Okay, you're definitely getting ghosted then. If it's been a whole month, why do you want to get a hold of her? I don't know. I just like, I thought she was great. I really, I thought, you know, the day went well. I've had a lot of fun. I just, you yeah, I really want to get a hold of her. Okay. Well, have you been trying to reach out to her in that month?
Starting point is 00:01:11 Like, has she said anything to you at all that's giving you hope? No, not really. Okay. You know, I was trying to like be cool about it. Not really. I just text her once but then I text her again recently. I just like sent her like an axe throwing meme, you know, just to call back to the date. Yeah, nothing.
Starting point is 00:01:34 Let's talk about the date then Evan. Like what did you, so you guys went axe throwing? Yeah. Yeah. It was her idea by the way guys. So it wasn't like my crazy idea to go axe throwing. That's super fun. Yeah. I thought it was a little intense, but you know, cool, I guess idea for a first date. She was definitely way better than me at the act throwing, like embarrassingly better at act throwing. Like she actually during like while we were doing this,
Starting point is 00:02:06 like she actually gave me tips on how to throw, uh, which I appreciate it, I think. Okay. But yeah, so that was pretty much that the axe throwing portion. And then afterwards we grabbed some like street food from a, like a local truck and, um, we ate in the park. We talked for hours. It was awesome. Like she was hilarious. I mean, obviously she destroyed me in axe throwing, but she didn't rub it in at all. I don't know. Like I just felt like we clicked after, you know, we ate our water back to her place and we shared like, you know, like a kiss. It was really low key, but it was really nice.
Starting point is 00:02:44 And that was, that was it. So what do you think went wrong? I mean, it looks like there could be a few different options, but in your opinion, was there a moment that felt a little bit more uncomfortable than the others? I mean, you know, obviously like sometimes I'm a little bit inept socially. I don't know, I say dumb things and I don't realize it
Starting point is 00:03:04 even in the moment. But I't know. I say dumb things and I don't realize it even in the moment But I think one thing that maybe stands out is I offered to let her wear my jacket The shirt that she was wearing was like super short. I was at the low cut, you know, and I didn't want her to like be embarrassed. They're like boo falling out I didn't want her to like be embarrassed to like her boo falling out. What? You said that? Well, I didn't say that, but like I was tempted or insinuated, but like, yeah, she was kind of confused.
Starting point is 00:03:34 And she asked, she actually asked me if like I had a problem with what she was wearing. And I didn't. But I did. I backpedaled on the jacket offering. I felt like she understood that I was just trying to look out for her and, you know, like I wasn't embarrassed about what she was wearing. I just can't imagine. Like you're going ax throwing, right? It's probably warm in there.
Starting point is 00:03:53 You're going to get even more warm. And the guy I'm on a date with offers me a jacket. But it's also like- I was going to be like, full. Yeah, that would be a little- I don't know. That would kind of rub me the wrong way just because like, why does it matter? But they kissed and they hung out after the fact.
Starting point is 00:04:10 So she gave him another chance. Yeah. Or she's too scared to leave the date. Oh, I mean, I don't think so. But I mean, I could, I guess I could see how maybe she would stay there out of, you know, being embarrassed to not leave. But like I said, I felt like we moved fast. But sometimes I'm terrible clearly about picking up on social tears.
Starting point is 00:04:31 How did you leave everything with her? What was like the last thing that you guys kissed? Yeah, we kissed and then I was just like, I had a lot of fun. I'll text you tomorrow and love to see you again, obviously. And, you know, this is way better than how I'm saying it to you guys right now. I'll text you tomorrow and uh, love to see you again obviously and, you know, it was way better than how I'm saying it to you guys right now but I felt like it was-
Starting point is 00:04:50 I'm sold. I'm sold. Okay. Well we'll try to figure it out for you then. We'll play a song, come back and then call her and see if we can get you another date and find out where you're getting ghosted, okay? Thank you guys.
Starting point is 00:05:01 All right, we'll play a song, come back, get your first date follow up next. Snakes, zombies, public speaking, get your first day follow up next. I'm AJ Jacobs and I am an author and a journalist and I tend to get obsessed with stuff. And my current obsession is puzzles. And that has given birth to my podcast, The Puzzler. Dressing.

If you're just joining us for today's first day of follow up, Evan is on the phone and he's getting ghosted by Claire. So we're about to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him another date.
Starting point is 00:06:42 But first, Evan, why don't you kind of recap things for us real quick? Yeah, so I went out with Claire. We had a great day. We went axe throwing. We went out, had, you know, street food afterwards. We talked for hours, ended on a kiss. Everything felt good, but like I haven't talked to her in a month.
Starting point is 00:07:00 I've tried texting her a few times and got nothing back. All right. You ready for us to call her a month. I've tried texting her a few times and got nothing back. All right, you ready for us to call her? Yes. Here we go. Hello? Hi, is this Claire? Hi, yeah, this is Claire.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Hey, Claire, what's up? This is a jubil show. It's a radio show. I'm on the phone with Claire. I'm on the phone with Claire. I'm on the phone with Claire. I'm on the phone with Claire. I'm on the phone with Claire.
Starting point is 00:07:24 I'm on the phone with Claire. I'm on the phone with Claire. I'm on the phone with Claire. I'm on the phone with Claire. I'm on the phone with Claire. I, yeah, this is Claire. Hey Claire, what's up? This is the Jubal show. It's a radio show. Yeah. Hi, Claire. I'm Hina. I'm Victoria.
Starting point is 00:07:33 And I'm Jubal. What's up? How are you? Oh, hi guys. I had no idea people actually did this. Yeah, they do. How's it going? How are you all?
Starting point is 00:07:41 I'm good. Do you listen to the show? I do. Yeah. I'm on the Do you listen to the show? I do, yeah. I'm on the way to work. Great. Have you ever heard of First Aid Follow-Up before? I have, yes. Well guess what, Claire? Congratulations!
Starting point is 00:07:57 You're ghosting somebody and they emailed us to get a hold of you. Yay! Oh my God. Is this about Evan? Yes, you already know. Yes, it is. It's about Evan. He said he really liked you, but
Starting point is 00:08:13 can't figure out why you're not calling him back. So would you mind telling us? Yeah, I think Evan's a really great guy, but the date was weird. Okay. Weird. How so?
Starting point is 00:08:29 Um, you know, every time he'd throw an act because we went after him, um, he'd scream out someone that he hated. Laughing along. I thought it was funny at first because he was like maybe I was zombies or like a name of a serial killer. Okay. Yeah, I was like okay this is dark you know kind of a dark sense of humor though can be high and I was just rolling with it.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Zombies! And then it started to become real people. Yeah, I got more personal on his side because, you know, it was like people from his elementary school, like his third grade coach. How do you know that? Did he tell you that it is like third grade coach and then like
Starting point is 00:09:20 through it? Yeah, I was like, he's bad. He's like, oh, my third grade soccer coach. Okay, that's a little murderous, I guess. French much? Yeah, it got creepy. And so that turned you off, I guess, that he was fantasizing about throwing axes
Starting point is 00:09:36 into those people's heads. Yeah, who holds grudges about people from their elementary school? I guess I could see why that'd be disturbing. I, yeah, me too. Did you say anything to him about it or like ask him? Like how often do you think about throwing axes at my third grade coach?
Starting point is 00:09:54 Yeah, I mean, I definitely addressed it. I was like, this just keeps going, you know, he named Craig from the gym. And it's like so many people in his life. named Craig from the gym. Another thing is he threw me at throwing me on intended. I'm not thinking I'm on his hit list now. He did tell us that he sent you
Starting point is 00:10:19 an extra. I guess I would take it that way to a Claire not to freak out too much, but Evan is actually on the phone listening and wants to talk to you Yeah, and so like wait, so that's why you're ghosting me. I was like it was just I was just blowing off steam It wasn't that serious So yeah, you're blowing off steam
Starting point is 00:10:50 So, yeah, you're blowing off steam, the shouting about like 15 people and how you, you know, really were getting into it. I mean, that wasn't just blowing off steam, you were in your own therapy session. I don't know if that's even there. Is that therapy? First date, come to therapy with me. Yeah. It was all good fun. Come on. Like I was just messing around. Is that therapy? First date, come to therapy with me. Yeah. It was all good fun.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Come on. Like I was just messing around. It wasn't like, I wasn't actually thinking about these people. I was just saying their names. It's not a big deal. I mean, messing around is one thing, but you had an act in your hand, both screaming about your childhood enemies and a local guy at the gym. And I mean, it's just like, come on, that's intense.
Starting point is 00:11:29 No thanks, sorry. Come on, like you haven't fantasized about throwing in acts of somebody and like from your life. Like, come on, it's just like, I was just blown off steam. It's not like I was serious. Well, that's an interesting fantasy. No, I haven't, I haven't fantasized about this. Well, Claire, would you like another date with Evan?
Starting point is 00:11:50 We'll pay for it. You know, I just don't think so. Like, I'm all for fun and games, but I need someone who's just a little bit more, I guess, like emotionally stable. just a little bit more, I guess, like emotionally stable. I am emotionally stable. Okay. Well, I'm sorry, man. You didn't get another date.
Starting point is 00:12:14 That's fine. I don't even want one. Like why is she's taking it too seriously? Whatever. I don't, not a big deal. Well, yeah, sorry, man. And thanks for your time, Claire. Thank you all.
Starting point is 00:12:26 Take care. It was her stupid idea to go on that stupid day anyway. Okay, all right. Wow. I'm going ass-throwing. Thanks for nothing. Okay. Oh, wow.
