going to take some viewer questions as well.
I mean, isn't that what democracy is all about?

The Jubal Show on demand.
First day follow-up.
Might be a first for the Jubal Show.
It's time for your first day follow-up. And we've done first for the Jeeble Show. It's time for your first date follow-up.
And we've done first date follow-ups for all kinds of people.
They haven't gotten a call back from a date that they went on.
And we call the person and we're like, hey, man, why aren't you calling them back?
And then they say something and then we talk.
You know how it goes.
Anyway, we've done it with all kinds of people.
We've done it with heterosexual couples.
We've done it with polyamorous couples.
We've done it with same-sex couples. But've done it with same-sex couples. Everyone.
But we've never done one with a thespian. A thespian? What is that? It's an actor. Oh.
In the theater. I was like, what is that? We have a thespian on the phone, apparently,
who's not getting a call back from a date that he went on. And I'm going to guess that he's
going to be very dramatic about it, but I don't know that for sure.
Marcus, what's up, man?
How are you?
Hey, how's it going, guys?
Good.
Doing good.
All right, Marcus, before we get into everything, how long ago was your date?
Date, probably about nine days ago, about a week and a half ago.
What's the name of the person that you went out with?
Her name's Emily.
Emily, all right.
So how long has it been since you heard from Emily?
About nine days.
Okay.
So she stopped calling you right away.
And how many times have you reached out to try to get a hold of her?
I've reached out to her a couple of times.
I haven't heard back yet.
She did say that she has a pretty busy schedule.
So I just, you know, I just throw it out there a couple of times.
But I just figured maybe coming through you guys again would would maybe kickstart something here.
OK, we'll see if we can help you out. So exactly what was your date?
Well, you know, I thought it would be a good idea to do something a little nontraditional.
You didn't want to do the classic dinner and a movie.
Very, very, very tropey type of thing.
As you've already pointed out, yes, I am an actor.
I perform with a small community theater group,
and our most recent show was Shakespeare's Macbeth.
I invited her to the play.
I was the king in the show, and I wanted her to see me perform
and to see the group, the company, my friends and all that.
And I figured it would be nice and she could kind of get a sense of who I was
and she could get to know me a little bit through watching me on stage in a theater.
So she would have to sit by herself?
Well, you know, I saved her tickets with all the other friends and girlfriends
and boyfriends of everyone else in the cast.
That's awkward.
That is super awkward. So she had to pretty else in the cast. That's awkward. That is super awkward.
She had to pretty much meet the family.
Oh, my goodness.
But, yeah, so she came to the show.
We hung out afterwards.
But, yeah, no, I haven't really heard too much from her since.
How was the afterward hangout?
It was pretty cool.
You know, again, she came to the show.
She came.
I showed her around backstage a little bit.
I gave her a little tour of the theater.
After the play, she came back up
and et cetera, et cetera.
Did the whole
congratulations and all that.
I invited her to our little
traditional after party with our group.
We went to the Denny's and
dissected the show
afterwards. Denny's is great. They have we all kind of dissected the show afterwards.
Yeah, Denny's is great.
You know, they have the booths that are big enough for all of us to hang out in.
But what about her?
Yeah, you know, on reflection, I think maybe that's probably not the best way to have her get to know me.
We didn't really have a whole lot of time one-on-one.
Maybe she thinks I was full of myself or putting on yet another show. We didn't really have a whole lot of time one-on-one. Maybe she thinks I was
full of myself or putting on yet another
show. I don't know.
Did you feel like you know anything
about her other than her name?
Well,
I remember her mother's name is Karen.
I thought that was kind of funny.
Normally, I would be like, is there anything else
that happened that you think it could be?
But in this instance,
I think you just made a very bad decision on how to have the date, you know?
And did she just stop talking to you after that date?
Well, you know, I sent her a text thanking her for coming out.
She said, of course, and that it was very interesting.
Oh, damn.
Yeah, that doesn't sound like a,
we'll see you later.
I really enjoyed myself.
And was that the last time that you talked to her?
Or that you reached out to her?
Yeah, that's the last time that I heard back from her.
And you really, the play Macbeth,
you guys are performing it,
but Macbeth is in space?
Macbeth is in space, absolutely.
I don't know what that means.
That's mental
Alright well
We'll play a song
Come back
And then call her
And find out why
She isn't calling you back
And see if we can get you
Another date okay
Thank you
Alright we'll do it
Right after this
In your first date follow up
It's the Jubal Show
If you're just joining us
For today's first date follow up
Marcus isn't getting a call back
From a woman named Emily
He kind of went on a date
With her anyway
Marcus performs In a theater group, a local theater group,
and they were putting on a performance of Shakespeare's Macbeth,
although Macbeth was in space, which is kind of a cool twist on it.
And he invited Emily to come out to the show just by herself.
She sat with his cast mates, significant others, whatever, family members.
And then after the show,
they went to Denny's together with the whole crew and he in and hung out and
he said he thought it went great.
But also now that he thinks about it,
realizes he kind of just invited her to watch him do a show and then hang out
and talk about the show after.
And probably not the best date because she hasn't called him ever since then.
So we're about to call
Emily right now and see if we can figure out
why she's not calling Marcus back. And I promise not to be
so annoying when we call her. Okay, Marcus?
Here we go. I'm going to dial her phone number right now.
Hello?
Hark, thou is Emily.
Yes, I'm Emily.
Emily, it has been a fortnight since we spoke.
Who is this?
Who are any of us?
It is what I say.
I'm sorry.
I don't know if you have the right Emily.
Emily, hi.
This is the Jubal Show.
My name is Jubal.
It's a radio show.
Mine's Alex.
Mine's English Evan.
Oh, oh, oh, is this about my follow-up first date submission?
Because I went on a date with Nick and he hasn't called me back.
And I was kind of hoping that you could call him and
find out.
Oh.
Yeah, it's a first date
follow up, but it's not, we're
not calling to
like talk to you about your submission, no.
You submitted for a first date follow up.
Yeah, I emailed you guys a couple weeks ago
because I went out with this guy named Nick
and I wanted to do a first date follow-up.
Oh dear.
Okay.
Well, how the tables have turned.
You're dramatic.
What do you mean?
What I mean is, no, we're not calling you to check in
on the first date follow-up that you wanted to do
with a dude named Nick.
I feel like she knows what we mean.
Yeah, you might know.
Yeah.
We're calling you because somebody emailed us about you.
Oh, about me?
Yeah.
Any idea who would email us?
Who have you been on a date with recently other than Nick that has been trying to get a hold of you that you've ghosted?
It's
not that theater guy, is it?
Well, how many theater guys
you been out with?
Did you not gather from Jubal thy thou art?
Are they doing all that?
Oh God, Marcus, right?
Yes, Marcus.
Marcus emailed us, told us about
your date, Said that he really
Treasured his time with you
And would love to see you again
But you're not calling him back
And we're calling you
To ask why
Yeah this Marcus guy
Really
He chose a really strange
First date
We didn't get to talk that much
He told us all about
it. He invited you out to watch him
in a play.
And then after that,
hung out with his theater buddies and talked about
theater and stuff. And we also
said to him, hey, probably not the best idea.
You didn't even really get a chance to talk to Emily
and also could have seemed fully yourself.
Like, come check me out
on the stage.
Is that what happened?
Is that why?
Yeah.
Yeah.
That was part of it that, you know, it was like, I didn't even get to have a date really.
But also, I mean, during the actual performance, he was just not that good.
He was actually bad on stage?
Yeah. he was just not that good. He was actually bad on stage? Yeah, I mean
it was set in space and it was just
really cringy and awkward.
We were wondering how the space thing was
going to work.
No, no, no. This show is why
community theater gets a bad rap.
It really is.
Oh no.
And then, oh my gosh,
the after party at Denny's was with all his theater friends.
And, you know, he was just trying to get compliments from them and from other people.
And it's just like, why?
I could have not been there and it would have been the same.
Oh, okay.
Wow.
That does not sound like a good date.
So bad play and bad date.
Everything about it, not good.
Yeah. play and bad date everything about it not good yeah it's just like being around weird theater people all the time it's just no the theater people aren't weird they're just they're just
creative types it's just you know we're just not afraid to be ourselves and i just thought that
that would be a good environment for a date to just see people as they actually are instead of trying to put on this show of being impressive or trying to paint by numbers and check all the Tinder boxes.
I just thought it would be a good time.
Oh, so you weren't trying to be impressive?
No, I just wanted you to get to know me.
That's all.
Uh-huh.
You know, I'm sorry.
It was just way too pretentious. I mean. I'm sorry, it was just way too pretentious.
I mean...
I can't believe that you thought it was pretentious.
Yes, it's certainly one of a kind.
We're just re-envisioning a classic.
You know,
with the space set.
It's a subtle commentary,
a nuance of today's society
and how everything is
within our reach but out of our grasp.
Marcus, calm down.
You share a theater that
the next day is going to be used by an elementary
for their seasonal recitals.
You're not on Broadway, my friend.
You're just on a one-way road
down to Delusional Town.
Oh, gosh.
Just because we're passionate about something,
it's not... I really hope you find something that you're as passionate about.
I really do.
And I really thought that, you know, that could have been a good chance for us to kind of connect.
You didn't talk to me.
You didn't even talk to me that much.
How could I connect with someone who doesn't even talk to me?
It's not like you were exactly extrovert of yourself. You weren't
really trying to put in too much
of an effort to really fit in either
yourself. Marcus, you did put her
in a very uncomfortable position.
I mean, it would be hard to keep up with a group
of theater people
right after a show.
I wouldn't have brought her if I didn't think she had the potential
to engage and be interactive.
And I really thought that she had that kind of personality.
So I guess maybe now I can see a little bit more clearly about who she is.
You know what, Marcus?
I've always said that no matter how warped the pot, there's a lid that fits.
And there's a lid that fits you, and it's just not me.
Oh, wow.
That's a very espion saying.
Yeah, there's a line from a play.
Now I'll give you the line that I don't think either of you are going to like.
Would you like to go out on another date with Marcus, Emily?
We'll pay for it.
No, no, actually, I'm good.
But if you could get back to my submission, that'd be awesome.
Yeah, that's right.
We got to find out about Nick.
