Online at AdvocatesLaw.com Zane is on the phone today for a first date follow-up and he's getting ghosted by Marissa who we went on a date with. So in a few minutes we're going to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and maybe get him another date. But first, Zane, how long
Starting point is 00:03:20 has it been since you heard from Marissa? It's been about a week since I've texted her and I haven't gotten a response. How many times have you tried to reach out to her in the week? Honestly, the last thing I sent, it was just asking her if we were going to catch up again. I messaged her a follow-up. We had a couple of glasses of wine on our date and whatnot. And I kind of made a silly joke about a wine hangover or something and um she just gave me this like winky tongue
Starting point is 00:03:49 sticking out face so i kind of thought it was flirty and whatnot and i said hey when are we gonna do this again and that's really been it i haven't i don't want to push because i kind of want to you know what i mean yeah yeah yeah yeah no that's like the worst one to get ghosted on selfies and then when it's like when when are we going to hang out again? Yeah, and then nothing. Let's go backwards, Zane. Why don't you tell us about the date? How did you meet Marissa?
Starting point is 00:04:11 Oh, so we met work. We're going out and they wanted to go to a karaoke bar. And I'm not a karaoke bar person. I don't like it. I have a musician music background and just hearing people sing poorly just kind of raps my brain. I mean, more to them. I want them to have fun. I just don't need to listen to it. You know, but I went anyway because it was a group and, you know, I felt like kind of a spoiled sport not going. So I went and I met Marissa at the Marissa was and myself and her. We met and we actually started flirting a lot, which was a great distraction from the bad singing.
Starting point is 00:04:56 And we chatted and chatted and just had a great time. We ended up getting up and do a karaoke song. And again, not a karaoke singer, but we sing something from uh grief um the summer loving but we had an absolute blast and talked like about it we finished the night i got her number it was very friendly but very fun but nothing too forward you know got her number we ended up meeting up at a wine bar and uh had a really great time talked the entire time we did the whole tasting menu too so i'm sure the wine helped the conversation but it was uh uh back and forth a lot of great banter back and forth and it was like we were bouncing off of each other you know
Starting point is 00:05:37 so the time went really fast and uh just not a dull moment you know what i mean and um yeah we talked literally about everything so no i'm a little confused as to why what's going on and uh how i didn't hear anything i guess was there a moment at any point where it was like this could be why so yeah um during the whole conversation or during the whole time we're going through these wine tests and like we're chatting and i'm i can drink relatively fast but it was obviously that she was a um obviously a slow drinker so i was kind of helping her along so we could get to the next palate so did you tell your drinks and you chugged hers also well i mean i wouldn't say chug she would take a sip maybe another sip and i'm
Starting point is 00:06:22 done and i'm oh let me oh yeah that's nice isn't it let me take another sip of that isn't that nice and I just kind of help her along you know and maybe maybe that's a little really crappy my best to play it as a joke like I wasn't trying to be a a-hole about it I was making
Starting point is 00:06:39 but that's the only thing I could think that maybe she didn't take it's funny yeah that could that could be it I'm sorry this dude's just drinking my drink But that's the only thing I could think that maybe she didn't take it as funny as I thought. That could be it. I'm sorry. She's like, this dude's just drinking my drink. Maybe she thought you just were so thirsty. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:55 All right. Well, we'll try to figure it out for you then. We'll play a song, come back, and then call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting you and hopefully get you another date. Okay? Fantastic. That'd be awesome. We'll play a song, come back, get your first day follow-up next. Hey, everyone. It's Katie Couric. Well, the election is in the homestretch and I'm exhausted,
Starting point is 00:07:22 but turns out the end is near, right in time for a new season of my podcast, Next Question. This podcast is for people like me who need a little perspective and insight. I'm bringing in some FOKs, friends of Katie's, to help me out, like Ezra Klein, Van Jones, Jen Psaki, Astead Herndon. But we're also going to have some fun, even though these days fun and politics seems like an oxymoron. But we'll do that thanks to some of my friends like Samantha Bee, Roy Wood Jr., and Charlemagne the God. We're going to take some viewer questions as well. I mean, isn't that what democracy is all about?

Check out our new season of Next Question is for you. Check out our new season of Next Question with me, Katie Couric, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Right in the middle of today's first date follow-up, if you're just joining us,
Starting point is 00:08:22 Zane is on the phone and he's getting ghosted from a date he went on with a girl named Marissa. So we're about to call her and see if she'll tell us why she's ghosting him and hopefully get him another date. But first, Zane, why don't you recap your date with Marissa? Sure thing. We met at a karaoke bar. We got along really, really well. We even sang together, which is unheard of for me. We went on a date.
Starting point is 00:08:41 It was fantastic. I may, outside of possibly drinking too much of her wine instead of as well as my own, it may, it was a perfect date. It was fantastic. So just looking to see what happened. All right. You ready for us to call her? Yeah, let's do it. Okay, here we go. Hello? Hi, may I speak to Marissa, please? This is she. Hey, Marissa, how are you? My name is Jubal, and I host a radio show.
Starting point is 00:09:16 It's called The Jubal Show. Hi, Marissa. The Jubal Show is here. I'm Nina. Hi. Hi, and I'm Victoria. How are you? I'm doing good.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Do you listen to the show? I do. Well, Marissa, have you ever heard a first date follow up before? Yeah, I do listen to those. Okay, great. How would you like to be on one? I honestly am not sure, but I'm here for the ride. Okay, sweet.
Starting point is 00:09:42 Well, we got an email about you from a guy that you're ghosting you have any idea who that could be um i would imagine you're talking about zane yes okay you're correct zane emailed us they said it's been about a week since your date and he hasn't heard anything from you and he's wondering why um well after so we went on a date to a wine bar right and it was a great time i had a good time but then we were like we were getting a little buzzed and he admitted that he his favorite show was vanderpump rules and like he loves the Bravo Network and that to me was a bit of an ick because I mean I'm a theater kid and I don't really like reality TV I think it
Starting point is 00:10:34 cheapens television I think it takes away from people who are real artists if I'm like if I'm going to watch something on TV it's going to be meaningful I mean the people that are on reality television, they're famous for no reason. It just, it cheapens TV for me. Just love that it's Vanderpump Rules for him. I know.
Starting point is 00:10:53 I think it's so fun. I'm sorry. It's so funny. That's the reason you're ghosting him, though? It was just cringe. I just don't, I don't know. It really turned me off in the moment. And when you get the ick, you just get the ick.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Yeah, you just can't get rid of it. I couldn't see him the same after that. Because he likes Vanderpump Rules. I mean, yeah. Okay. Well, thank you for telling us. Appreciate that. Zane is actually on the phone listening and wants to talk to you.
Starting point is 00:11:26 It's like a reality show. Wow, that's it. That's it. Because I understand that none of what they do is really all that talented or fantastic, but it is dumb, simple comedy to me, and you don't have to think about it. I don't understand why is that so odd to me and it just you don't have to think about it i don't understand why is that like a that's so odd to me why would you not want to talk to me because i like to cool down with a little bit of really stupid mindless television i i work in like really high stress nonsense tech industry all that
Starting point is 00:11:59 good stuff so i'm high 10 hours a day and sometimes i just want to turn on the TV and, and watch idiots be idiots and just laugh and not think. And it's fantastic. But I mean, that's really, that's why you, you ghosted me. We had such a good time and that's the, uh,
Starting point is 00:12:17 that's, that's it. I mean, I'm honestly embarrassed. I didn't really want you to hear what I thought, and I certainly don't want to hurt your feelings. Trust me, that did not hurt my feelings. It just comes down to the fact that you're not the one.
Starting point is 00:12:39 I don't want to pursue you. I don't want to pursue you. I don't want to pursue you. Well, I didn't realize that the bra network had that much of an influence on your dating outcomes, but okay. My feelings aren't hurt. I understand. Cool. You don't like it, but... Marissa, are you sure? Would you like to go on another date with Zane?
Starting point is 00:13:04 We'll pay for it. I really am sorry about all of this i don't think i'm interested i mean the reality tv of it all is just not for me i wouldn't want to be around that for an extended period of time and if that's an interest of yours that's great for you, but it's not for me. Well, that is perfectly okay. Because if it's going to be about someone being so snobby about something, watching something on television, I think the feeling's mutual now. Thank you. We're all good.
Starting point is 00:13:40 Okay, great. Have a nice life with all the reality TV stars. Have a fun time getting that stick out your bum. Hey, everyone. It's Katie Couric.
