Hello, my friends. My name is Hank Smith. I'm the co-host of a podcast called Follow Him. I say
co-host because I have a co-host. His name is John, by the way. He's with me right now. Hello,
John. Hello, Hank. Co-host. Yes, co-host John and co-host Hank. John, this Come Follow Me this week
is just on one section of the Doctrine and Covenants, section 45. And this little segment is what we call follow him favorites, where we just choose one thing to focus on. So tell me
out of section 45, what's your follow him favorite? Yeah, section 45 is a hard one because
there are, oh, I lost count, 75 verses. So it's a long one, but right at the beginning, verses three, four, and five.
And my students have heard me say this a lot.
My favorite nickname for the Savior is advocate.
I want you to do two things.
I want you to Google this.
Of course, whatever rules you have in your home about being on the computer, make sure it's okay with mom and dad.
But Google Jesus advocate and then put in quotes, Harry Anderson. you have in your home about being on the computer. Make sure it's okay with mom and dad, but Google
Jesus advocate, and then put in quotes, Harry Anderson, and look at that painting. It may
forever change the way that you think about the Savior and the final judgment in particular.
Look at how the Savior's standing. Look at the man. And then I want you to read those verses
three, four, and five. Another thing I want you to do is look up on dictionary.com advocate.
First thing it'll come up, it'll say verb, but that's not the one I want.
I want the noun.
To advocate for something is a verb.
The noun will say a person who speaks for or in behalf of another.
Oh, and then look at that painting and then read these verses where Jesus does the talking
and says, Father, behold the suffering and death of him who did no sin, in whom thou wast well
pleased. Behold the blood of thy son which was shed. You can almost hear the sacrament prayer
in there. The blood of him whom thou gavest that thyself might be glorified. And these just
beautiful hope giving words, wherefore father spare these my brethren or my sisters or my young
friend, spare these that believe on my name. I want you to look at that picture and read that verse
and watch your spirit breathe a sigh of, I am so grateful that I have an advocate. That's my
follow him favor there, Hank. That's a beautiful idea because way too often in the church, we think
I'm not going to make it. I'm not good enough. I'm not. And that's the whole point. You're not
good enough. That's why we have a savior. Yeah. And he's not saying, look what this person did.
He's saying, look what I did.
So because of what I did, spare this person because they believe in me. Oh, it's so good.
Second Nephi chapter two, verse three, you'll be redeemed because of the righteousness of your
Redeemer. Not your own righteousness, the righteousness of your Redeemer. And you can
trust him. I'm glad you did your follow him favor at the very beginning, because I'm going to look
towards the end for my follow him favor. It's verse 57. The Lord has just
talked about the difficulties that we'll face in the second coming. He's talked about all of
the vapors of smoke and the sun being darkened. And he's already told us, be not troubled. But then he adds at the end of this in verse 57, be prepared for they that are wise, referring back to his parable of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25.
They that are wise have received the truth and have taken the Holy Spirit for their guide.
It seems that the Lord boils it down to one simple thing.
Just do everything you can to have the Holy Ghost in your heart and mind and life.
And you mentioned the sacrament prayers.
Well, what is the promise of the sacrament prayers?
That we will always have the spirit to be with us.
So whenever I get nervous or meet someone who's nervous about the second coming,
we can come to section 45 verse 57
and say, you've got to do one thing,
do everything you can,
whether that be to repent or change your music
or read your scriptures more,
go to the temple more,
whatever it is for you to fill your life
with the Holy Ghost.
If you will do that, you will be fine.
There's no reason the the Lord says, to be troubled.
So that's my follow him favorite. We hope you'll join us on our podcast. It's called Follow Him.
