It's Riggs.
We did about 50 minutes, 55 minutes or so with Brando Chambly.
It was great.
We got to do a lot of different stuff.
We talk about Bryce, and we get deep into Bryce, and we talk about even Big Cat, part of my take, his relationship with Brooks Keppka, Tiger Woods' game, a lot of different things.
That was a fun time.
However, I've been to the Barstall Classic all day.
My brother qualified, which I'm sure will lead to lots of controversy,
which we can discuss in another time or the boys can discuss.
So you're going to love the interview, but until we get there,
I'm going to throw it to the other boys who I'm sure have plenty to talk about.
So enjoy this forward play.
Enjoy the interview with Brander Shambly.
All right.
Thank you very much, Riggsie Squeaks.
As you just heard from Riggs Commissioner Riggs at the Barstow Classic,
he is not with us right now.
We have Trent Daddy.
We have Lurch.
I'm doing the little Rigsiex.
I'm doing the little rigs bit here where he announces everyone that's here.
We also have Mr. Jake Bass and Brendan Joan eBook.
Thanks for the intro, Frankie.
Yeah, no problem.
This is going to be a little bit of a different kind of talking because I, I mean, talking.
This is going to be a little bit of a different podcast because I'm in the car.
I'm inside of a Taco Bell parking lot, and I believe Lurch is in the car as well.
I'm in a car.
I'm in a car with no AC sweating my tits off at a Dunkin'Dunk and a Dunkin.
We just recorded 55 minutes of Brandel Shambly.
Rigsie Squeaks just told you about that.
It's a really good talk with Brandl.
He is a very polarizing figure in golf.
And the one thing that I really want to get out of him was this beef between Big Cat, PFT, the part of my take guys and Brandl.
We couldn't not bring it up.
I mean, all you see on social media is Brandy Shambi.
Oh, are you going to cry, Brandy Shambi?
I mean, I actually read a quote from Big Cat, and you're going to hear it in this podcast.
I ended up calling him a little bitch or something like that.
So, I mean, it got pretty awkward having to bring up that beef.
But we get the answer.
And honestly, Brandel goes into it about blocking people and about people throwing shit around his house party.
I don't know.
But it's really interesting stuff.
Brandl always brings the headlines when he comes on our show.
So I love that.
How are you guys doing today?
You know, I'm going to start, even though I just asked you a question.
I'm going to start and tell you how I'm doing.
I did demolition at a house today.
Okay?
This little frail frame, that one was kind of a tongue twister,
knocked down walls.
I picked up subflooring.
I went out and I bought myself a goddamn crowbar.
I showed up to this demolition with a brand new crowbar.
You know how I'm the only one that did that?
Because everyone else had old-ass crowbars.
I'm walking in with a bright yellow-shiny crowbar and brand-new gloves.
I'm like, I'm here to be the handyman.
Frankie fucking hands, and they're showing up.
They're like, we've been doing this shit for years.
What the fuck are you talking about?
Like you, I feel like I woke up in a different dimension where you're demolishing houses.
And like, you go because you're stressed out and you go to those places where you just break everything and you pay like $100 and they let you get out of your anger.
What are you demolishing?
My buddy bought a house.
Congratulations to Nick and Casey.
And, you know, they have a house.
And today was a day in which we needed to get this subflooring up.
apparently whoever had the house before underneath the tile that they don't want there anymore
raised the floor up so it could match the fucking carpet level so when now we're trying to put down
wood floors and shit this sub flooring was nailed down like you wouldn't believe
honestly whoever put this down putting 10,000 too many nails into this fucking flooring
so I was there with a crowbar act like I know I'm doing here's the only reason I bring this up
a piece of glass fell a really big piece of glass fell and it's shattered all over my legs
To the point where I started.
I started bleeding like you wouldn't believe.
Are you serious?
Oh, yeah.
Now, I've heard, now this could be like an old tail,
but can't that like go to your heart,
like little pieces of fucking glass if you like,
if like glass falls on you and explodes on you?
Oh, Tetanus.
Isn't there like a really bad, like a way that it can like go into your bloodstream
and like it ends up in your heart like shards of glass?
Haven't you guys heard that?
Like Tetanus disease, right?
Tetanus, no.
Tetanus is metal.
Someone, this is, what do we call this, the MD thing?
What's up, Doc?
What's up, Doc?
Someone needs to explain to me what I've heard.
I've heard rumors that if glass gets on.
So are you saying you've heard that if glass gets in, what, like your bloodstream,
it gets pumped through your heart?
No, that is, that's a staple fact.
That I just can't see that being true.
Well, that's what's happening with me right now.
So you did a day of demo.
How does it feel to do a day of demo?
got a sledge through a wall yet because that's really when you know that you're a man.
I felt like I got all the bitch work.
I was sitting there with this like crow bar just lifting up little pieces of subfloor.
Everyone else did all the cool shit.
Could you imagine if you paid for a labor and then Frankie Borelli showed up at your house?
You're like, what kind of work is this guy going to do?
I'm the opposite of a handyman.
I show up.
I'm frail.
Everyone listening knows.
No one is besides by that.
I've got shorts on.
My legs are exposed.
they're like, what are you doing here?
Everyone else is wearing these fucking these timbulins and these big dirty jeans with paint on
them.
And I'm showing up in a Reebok shorts like, let's go.
I look like I'm ready to play fucking pick up basketball.
I know you didn't do it on purpose, but that's actually smart so you don't have to do
any of the hard work.
Like you are not equipped to do the hard work.
So they just make you go like count nails or strip paint or something.
I think the only reason I was invited to this, aside from my devishly good looks,
is I brought the drinks.
And you know what I brought?
What?
I brought Owens mixers.
Okay?
I brought myself some Owens mixers to this demolition day, and it was the talk of the place.
We had ten guys there, and we all cranked up our little new Amsterdam vodka nips, you know, the little nipples?
Yep.
We had the little nips, put them in the glass, and we poured in the transfusion in there, the Owens Mixes transfusion, and we had ourselves a goddamn transfusion.
how do you think how do you think that way i bet it went really well because that stuff is legitimately
delicious especially on a hot day after a little workout i'll tell you what that first sip could make you go crazy
because think about it like after you golf that was like how the transfusion started right like you golf you go to
the 19th hole you get yourself a transfusion sometimes they put a little bit too much grape juice in there sometimes
they put a little bit too little ginger ale but it's the feeling of just having a hard day's work on the golf course you're sweaty
your sun burnt, you just got demolished by the golf course.
Now, at times that by a million that you were just sledgehammering walls,
you were lifting up subfloors with crow bars that you just bought at the Home Depot.
Now, think about that first taste.
When you have nice ice, cold ice cubes in there and a glass and you're drinking it in an empty house,
it's hot, there's no AC, the steam is coming off the floor,
the glass is inside your bloodstream.
How good that fucking Owen's mix is tasted.
And that's what I had today.
That sounds pretty damn good
And if you want to experience it
You can buy it at the Barstoolstoresport.com
Or go on Owensmixers.com
And there's a store locator
Go out there, buy your Owens mixers,
get your transfusion,
drink them on the golf course
Or if you're like Frankie,
drink them after you,
you go demolition on your buddy's house, I guess.
Hey, Trent, do you notice this hat by you can?
That's a, it's a Barstall golf hat.
Are you missing one of these?
Is that my hat?
Are you missing one of these fucking hats?
I bet I am because the last time I was in your car,
I thought I was going to peel my guts out because I had sun poisoning.
And I probably just,
it just fell off my head as I was trying to stay conscious in the front seat of your car.
So we have this bars that Travis Matthew hat.
It's a beautiful hat.
I wear it every day.
I have a feminine forehead.
I like to protect it.
I don't let people see my forehead.
Although I did wear no hat at the White House.
It was the most exposed I've ever been.
It was crazy.
You look great, though.
There you do.
That looks great.
So here's the other thing.
I'm sitting in my car the other day and I see this hat here.
I'm like, oh, shit.
Like, what the fuck?
I have another one of these things.
And I didn't put one and one, like one and two together, one on one together.
What's the term there?
Two and two together.
Two and two chances I had at that.
Went off and two.
One and one.
So, oh, this person just got a crunch wrap Supreme.
Look at that thing.
Why is it two and two and two together?
No idea.
Two and two equals four.
Why isn't one and one together?
Two and two equals four is, I am with you.
I don't know.
That should be the next Frankie fact.
Frankie, look into it.
Why is it two and two equals four and it's two and two together as opposed to like one just
got skipped over?
I will say, Frankie, you're noticing things happening at Taco Bell.
I just saw the Dunkin' Donuts guy come out with a big trash bag, do one of those big, like,
tosses around your arm, you know what I mean?
Like that circular swing and try to hop this big trash bag into a big, like, disposable trash can.
And not even close.
Just hit the sidewall and cracked open.
Now he's picking up all the track.
Maybe some leftover donuts.
You go in there, sneak a few?
It's too hot, dude.
It's way too hot.
I'm boiling in this car, and I can't imagine how hot it is actually outside.
I see this hat in my car, and I'm like, oh, I must have an extra one.
I'm in my house yesterday, and I guess I left my hat, my black Travis Matthew Barstall.
What you can buy at the Barstall store, it is a must, I mean, it's a must have.
It's great hat.
These Travis Matthew hats, they just fit better than anything else.
They look better than anything else.
They're so good.
You know exactly which one I'm talking about.
It's got that circular logo on the front.
Everyone's got on the mesh in the back, keeps your head cold during the summer.
My dad comes out wearing a black Travis Matthew hat.
And I guess it was mine now that I think about it.
And he's like, did you get me this for like Father's Day?
And I was like, you know what?
Maybe that is an extra one because I knew I had seen one in my car.
Yep.
So I was like, yeah.
So he's like, oh, I like this.
I'm like, you know what?
That's definitely mine.
And the one in the fucking car is trends from when he had a heat stroke and passed out.
So now I'm keeping it because I can't take it away from my dad.
Yeah, no, finders keepers.
I dropped it in your car because I was on the verge of death.
I thought I was going to puke on your dashboard.
And I must have left my hat in there.
And it's yours now.
Flat brim you had, though.
You like the flat brim, huh?
You don't really do a lot of bend, I noticed.
I don't, uh, it wasn't a flat brim.
I feel like those don't come flat.
I think they come pretty, you know.
They come a little bend in them.
Yeah.
Now, Trent, is that your, does that just a rule that you have is just finder keeper?
It's just like pure laziness.
It's like not really a little bit of,
like totally lost. It's just Frankie now, you left your hat in his car and he's telling you about it
now it's just his. Is that a COVID thing or is that just a trend policy? Are you not aware of
finders keepers? No, I'm aware of finders keepers, but that's a little bit like that's not exactly
finders keepers in my eyes. I subscribe to finders keepers. I fucked up. I've got way too much sun
and not enough water and I took too many swings on the driving range. And what I did, it was drop my hat
And that's, it's no longer my hat.
It's Frankie's.
What do we think about, before we get into this interview,
what do we think about Riggs at the Barstall Classic?
He's back home.
He's got his family there.
He's got his brother in there.
Turns out there's some rumors,
well, it's not even rumors,
which is facts now,
that his brother qualified for the Barstow Classic Championship.
He's on his way to Pinehurst.
Now, he's the commissioner,
and he has family now winning the fucking event.
This is a very gray area.
I know Riggs alluded that we may talk a little bit behind his bat,
but it's like, you know, we're not allowed to play in the Barso Classic
because we have affiliation with it.
This is our tournament that we-
We don't even get invited to it, let alone win it.
We don't get invited to it.
We're not allowed to be in it.
We can't win it.
Now, this guy, Riggs' brother, great guy probably.
I mean, he comes from the Riggs family.
He's a good dude.
You can see videos.
He got a hole-on-one at where?
Cabot.
No, at Bandon Dunes.
Bandon Dunes.
Great stories.
Looks like he's a pretty good golfer from what I've seen on the videos.
But, like, what do we think about Riggs' brother?
I mean, you don't know if he, like, did he get, like, an honorary invitation to this thing?
And now he's just winning.
And now he gets someone's spot that maybe, you know, has been waiting on the wait list.
We got all these people waiting to get into this thing.
It's the number one tournament in the world for amateur golfers at this point.
What do we, what are we thinking, boys?
I mean, I think there's some controversy there.
No, here's what I want to say.
I think we're grasping at straws for controversy at this point.
Like, what do you, his brother's a good golfer.
They play all the time.
They go on all these trips.
He's clearly a good golfer.
Like, the fact that Riggs is putting a bug in our ear being like, hey, you should maybe talk about this controversy at the Barsoe Classic on the podcast.
Your brother is just a good golfer.
He obviously knows a good golfer who he played with, and they're now going to partners.
I don't, I'm a headlines guy.
I talk about it all the time.
But don't try to force feed me headlines about your tournament.
There's just, there's no controversy.
They're good golfer.
He's a controversy whore.
He wants, he will do anything he can to get a controversy.
He's been begging for one.
He loved when that guy had the two handicaps.
Because it does.
It drums up some storylines regarding his tournament.
I mean, he wants to be able to be like, all right, this is a real thing.
Now people care to the point where there's controversy.
I now, now that you say that, you know, I presented the question.
I didn't state the way that I felt about it.
You have now swayed me to the point where I do not think this is a controversy.
And I want to hear Lurcha's take on it.
but I genuinely think that if the guy won, regardless of how he got in,
maybe he gets an honorary invitation from the commissioner or whatever.
Once you're in, you're in.
So if you can play, if you shoot the number, you shoot the number, no?
Yep.
Yeah, I mean, the only knowledge that I have about this is that supposedly he was at 15 and finished at 7.
Like, whatever.
Congrats to you.
You had a good round.
Carry on.
He what?
He was at 15 under at one point, I saw in a tweet.
Holy shit.
And then he got this seven.
or something like that.
11.
Okay, he was 11 under.
Through how many holes he, bud?
13.
Okay, so he was on a buzzsaw.
He does have a big game.
But no, there's no controversy, whatever.
He had a good round of golf with his partner.
And the controversy would never come from him being like a sandbagger, like a really good golfer.
It would always, it would only come from like how he got in.
And like, if you were allowed to get people that are friends of the podcast or family of the podcast in the
championship and take a spot of another person.
Like, we have legitimate pros that play in this fucking thing.
So, like, just being a good golfer is not the controversy.
So, yeah, we are grasping us at this point.
I love, I don't think it's a story.
But I think we can kind of, once you can kind of see the scenes of where the, like,
he's probably thinking, Rakes is thinking when his brother enters, I bet his first thought is
like, all right, we got controversy now because if he plays well enough to win,
or at least get to Pinders now we can talk about it.
That's, it's just too, it's too forced, in my opinion.
Let's wait for some real controversy to happen, and then we can talk about that.
Before we get into the Brandel thing, one last thing.
Lurch, I know you texted me in Trent, and I've been demolishing houses all day.
I want to let you know I can't play golf this weekend, okay?
Oh, that's okay.
It's no big deal.
I just want to let you know here.
I'm not going to text you back.
I know you sent two messages.
You said, all right, guys, like first text.
I don't want to play a little golf this weekend.
I didn't answer that because I was demolishing a house.
I saw the second one you sent, even if it's a no, let me know because you're fishing for answers here.
I want to let you know here on the podcast.
I can't play this weekend.
I got things going on.
I got the Borelli's golf outing at the Eisenhower Red Course on Monday.
I'm gearing up for that.
That should be fun.
I got some four-play swag to give out to some of the players,
including some transfusions.
You got nothing to do, but that's fine.
It was just that it was a test.
Listen, the only reason I bring up the golf ball.
There's really no harm, no foul.
It doesn't happen.
The only reason I bring up the golf is because we're getting to the point the dog days of summer
where it's 110 degrees out here.
And I'm pinpointing and picking.
nitpicking where I play golf and when I don't play golf.
And I know it's going to be a hot one on Monday.
And I know that I'm going to want to relax over the weekend.
No, I'm doing my golf riding on Monday.
Oh, got you.
I know, like the back to back and I got a lot of set up at the thing.
You know, I like to explain myself.
You're stopping me from explain.
I want to explain.
It's not that I don't want to play.
Now, Trent has no excuse.
Right.
I'd actually now, I don't really care about your excuse.
Yours is just a no.
So whatever you were, you were fixing up a house today.
Trent, what's your excuse?
I cannot believe we're talking about this.
I thought I was going to be able to ghost those text messages and not have to deal with it.
And now that I have to make up something in my head.
Well, what I will say is that I know one of the people.
No, you don't have to say anything.
You don't have to make anything up.
You just say, I don't want to fly.
I'm going to do it anyway.
One of the people playing is Captain Kahn.
And if you remember you listened to last podcast, things are now weird between me and
Captain Kons because he has since tweeted at me being like,
I appreciate the heel dig.
And I ignored that as well.
So I can't now be going to a golf course and playing with him
because I'm going to have to talk to him about it.
Well, dude, the interesting part is,
cons was like, see if Frankie who wants to play.
He actually didn't say Trent.
I just included you because I was like,
all right, I'll see if these guys want to play.
And then he booked the T-Tons.
So then I was following up with two idiots to get a response.
It was a setup.
It was a setup.
Lurch to set up Trent to say thank you, Tons.
No, there's really no.
That's it.
This whole round of golf is about me showing up on the first tee and cons and me having to say thank you for that picture, Cons. I'm not going. I won't do it.
Cons love that talk last week on the last podcast. I mean, he was all in our mentions on Twitter, responding to every single tweet.
Cons is actually, he's treating me like a puppet because he was like, asked Trent on the podcast about this and I did.
And then he's like, asked these guys about golf and I did. I'm a puppet of con.
correct
so anyway
my heels are
my heels are firmly
dug in
um
anyway
what's today
Wednesday
yeah 29
and we got the golf
coming up this weekend
we got the WGC
we all put our picks in
I picked Justin Thomas
and you guys
did you try and throw
in Bo Hostler in there
Lurch
yeah he's not playing
right I noticed that
that was just a weird name
to throw in there
so then I went with Cantley
Okay.
Were you looking at the wrong field when you looked them up?
Because you were like, this is a garbage field.
It was like, this is the best field maybe since the restart.
So I quickly typed in betting odds this weekend for players because I wanted to see.
And then I didn't look at the top and it just was like there was nobody to look at.
I was like, what?
And then I quickly looked at the top.
I was like, oh, that's just the right.
Yeah, there's another tournament going on like the Barakus.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I did a, that was a cringe-worthy little stop there.
I did a quick glance as well, and it was like Martin Kimer's like the biggest name,
the most notable player.
I was like, like, there's no one in that field.
There's no one in that deal.
I picked Maddie Fitz.
I pick Maddie Fitz, but Frankie, you should feel good about Justin Thomas this week,
even though you pick him every week.
But he's got Bones, Mackay, on the bag this week.
He's got Bones.
He's plus 900.
I think he actually is the.
favorite? I don't know who's the favorite going into it. I mean, I would assume it's between
him, Rom. I'm going to have to look it up. But yeah, Justin Thomas, I feel good about. He's
always in the mix. That's why I like to pick him. And also, I like to pick him because I think at the end
of the year, it's cool to have whatever his stats are. They're my stats when it comes to wins.
According to Penn National, he is the second favorite behind John Rom at plus 800.
Boy, what a good call by me. It's like I know what I'm talking about finally.
Lurchy's loose picks will come out tomorrow morning
But they're just been on Flago
Yeah, Lurchy's loose picks are going to come out
The morning of the tournament
That's right Jake
That's when they should come out
Yeah, not the night before
So you can play your best
All right, Jake, just keep it going here
All right, everybody
Here's Brandl Schambly, our good friend
He's always fun to talk to, enjoy
All right guys, I'm here to talk to you
Trent and Lurch about features
I know that they sent you some of these socks
This is a sock company
They're hopping on board with Foreplay
I couldn't be happy
because I stress about my sock wear every single day when it comes to golfing,
when it comes to going to work, when it comes to just lounging around the house,
I want good socks, especially with my feet.
My feet usually stink.
I usually get blisters all over them and features that's figured out a way.
And I know Lurch has become a huge fan of these.
Huge fan.
Trench just got his sent to him.
But they make these socks to form around your feet.
They figured out the way for golfers specifically to wear these things without getting blisters.
And then they have this little lip on the back.
And Lurch, you were talking about a little bit before when we were talking about the company.
They have this lip on the back or if you heal so, like, you don't have to show any sock around the ankle.
But it still protects that blister area behind your feet.
Features is the company.
Lurch, talk a little bit about what you've noticed when they sent you these.
Yeah, I'm glad you noticed the same thing.
So everybody's got their A, B, C, and then kind of F pairs of sock that's in your cupboard.
You're picking through.
You're like, I got playing golf today.
I don't want my socks to slide under my shoe.
the constant rubbing for 18 holes.
Features is incredible.
I don't know what little technology they've figured out,
but there's these little lips for their ankle shoe or socks
that allow or don't allow the sock to slide within the shoe
and then you're blister free for the round.
And they're outrageously lightweight but comfortable.
It's insane.
It's almost like you're putting on a winter sock
in that extreme comfort where you're just so cozy and comfortable,
but you're getting on in the summer.
They're absolutely fantastic.
And I am so psyched they're on board because I actually won't wear any other sock now.
I'm so pumped with these things.
We're wearing for tennis, wearing for golf, any activity.
There's like no slide feature in there.
They're absolutely amazing.
Yeah, like Frankie said, I just got sent mine so I haven't been able to wear them just yet.
But now you guys are making me all excited to wear them.
I'm going to wear them tomorrow.
Features help you achieve your best every day and now on the golf course, too.
Targeted compression, hugs the arch of your foot, keeping the sock in place,
and preventing it from bunching, slipping, or sliding down into your shoe.
Features Sox will change how you feel about socks forever, and you can get $10 off your first pair of features when you use the code 4 at Features.com.
That's F-E-E-T-U-R-E-S dot com.
promo code 4 for $10 off your first pair of features.
Okay, ladies and gentlemen, we're joined for the, you know, six, seventh, eighth time, second time this year, actually.
I looked and it was February, so it was pre-COVID, pre-pre-quorum.
The golf world being shut down.
Brandl Shambly, the lead analyst for Golf Channel, NBC Golf Channel, my opinion, we've said that many times, the best in the business in terms of golf, analyzing swings, analyzing the game, breaking it down.
I think the best than any sports.
We have to.
I think any sport, I would rather, and I would appreciate you breaking down people's games more than I've heard any analyst break down anything.
So I love having you on.
We've got a lot to get to, but just generally.
what's been going on.
How has Brando Shambly's life go?
What's going on?
Yeah, I mean, hasn't it changed?
I mean, drastically, right?
Just if you'd have told me, we'd all be out buying masks, you know, this time of year.
We'd all be about 15 pounds heavier because we're sitting home eating three times a day.
Preach.
Right?
What'd you say?
Preach.
Right.
It's like, I'm down to two pair of jeans and two pairs of shorts.
And that's pretty much all I'm wearing.
Thank God the desk hits me about mid-minute.
heights right here because come master's time in November when I actually have to wear pants and
they're shown on the air it's gonna we're gonna have it come to Jesus. My wife and I've been out
riding bikes and hiking because that's that you can do social distancing trying desperately to get
off this COVID 15 or 10 that I picked up. But other than that, like the rest of the world,
we've just been hunkered down. We're kind of sneaking back into some normalcy in the golf world,
which is great.
I think amongst sports, as you guys well know,
you guys know sports better than I do,
with the exception of one.
I think I'm probably on par with you guys there.
But, uh,
no,
it's a great sport.
That was really generous,
you know.
My wife and I were diving back in.
You know,
my life is pretty much the same.
I sit around,
um,
this is,
this is the stuff I do.
I just sit around all day long,
filling up legal pads.
that's all I do
this is
what are you writing down
what are you writing down
you would be able to understand it anyway
it doesn't matter
I said around
I got about about 10 deaths
in my new house here
and I just go from one room
to the other writing shit down
my wife comes by
she teases me
she's like
why can't you just watch porn
like most men
this is my porn
honey this is my porn
you're just looking at
Ben Hogan swing over
and over
over it again.
She'll come by, you know, and I'm like, I'll hug her down.
I'm like, oh, my God, you can't believe this is so good.
She'll come by, and she calls the golf swings, you know, porn.
She's like, what is it, porn?
And, like, yeah, it's golf swings, you know.
Brand will get the weird satisfaction at the carpal tunnel.
He's like, the more his wrist in his hands hurt, he's like, yes.
Oh, yeah.
We're on the air 24 hours a day.
I got to come up with a lot of stuff.
Throw against the ball.
Yeah.
So where are you at right now?
Like you're at PGA, your peak PGA prep.
Is that what all those notepads are?
Yeah, pretty much.
You know, this week is WGC and Memphis.
So, you know, it's not often that I work the week before a major.
So I usually have the luxury of just diving in all day long,
preparing for a major.
So kind of dual, you know, roles this week,
trying to, you know, get my arms around the WGC event going on in.
in Memphis, but primarily just trying to compile data on all the players, you know,
try to get my arms around the type of player that this golf course rewards.
It's past, it's history, you know, and that's it.
It's a lot of fun.
You know, it takes you down on all these different avenues, and you just keep exploring,
it's boring, and then at the end of it, you know, I looked and like, all right, what does
this say?
What does it mean?
You try to come up with some themes, and then you go in the air and try to sell it, you know,
It's like, you know, I'll tell you, I'll tell you, like, for example, so, you know, so you go back and you start looking at Harding Park, which has a pretty darn short history on the PGA tour. It had a, it, it ran an event in the 60s for a brief period of time. You know, the San Francisco Invitational, it was called one year and then the lucky invitational previous years. And then it just went away because it was in disrepair, needed, need of some TLC.
in those eight years, six of the winners combined in their career, 142 events and 18 majors.
And six of them were major champions.
And two of them were San Francisco natives.
So think about this.
So George Archer won his very first event at Harding Park.
He's San Francisco Native.
Ken Venturi won his very last event at Harding Park, San Francisco Native.
You can't make that up.
and then the few times that they've been there for the American Express WGC
and for the WGC match play and for the President's Cup,
Tiger Woods won,
Rory McRoy won,
Tiger Woods went 5 and O in the President's Cup,
Rory went 7 and O on his way to victory at the match place.
It's like,
has there ever been a golf course that has been more blessed with great stories
divining out great winners?
So, you know,
that's the theme.
And obviously that could be,
explained away as a coincidence, but that's a lot of coincidences. So the golf course doesn't get a
lot of merit in terms of its architecture, but in terms of producing great winners and great stories,
it's been a hell of a venue. So it's that kind of weird stuff that I'm looking up. Yeah. Yeah,
I can tell. I like that. I didn't even feel like we asked a question. You were just ready to fire
everything you can imagine off about Harding Park, which is great. But,
But yeah, I mean, I'm curious where, what kind of characteristics of a golf course do you look at, you know, because there's only so many that you can really break it down.
If people say this is a ball strikers course or this is all about the short game or, you know, they just talk at Augusta.
You got to be so great around the greens or your approach shots because it's relatively wide up.
So, you know, with Harding Park, where are you at with the characteristics of the course that are going to be key for players to play well?
Yeah, well, so when you start to look at that, you know, Tiger won at Augusta National.
And look, I know I'm talking to maybe the biggest Tiger fan of the world over there, but I'm, I'm close.
Thank you. Right? I'm close. I, you know, I'm a lot of people don't think that, but I do.
I believe it. A lot of people don't think that. It's like, you know, it's like watching Shakespeare right, you know, it's like, are you kidding me?
but when Tiger won the Masters and it you know it was believe it or not since they started keeping
statistic the single worst driving week of any major winner ever okay nobody ever won a major
driving it worse than Tiger did so first thing you look at Hardy Park you think is it
forgiving off the tea like no it's not it's not forgiving you know Tiger won there and Rory
obviously he's the best driver in the game.
And Ken Venturi was certainly notable for a lot of different things,
but ball striking was one of them.
So the golf course thus far has proven to be a golf course
that demands great ball striking.
And part of that, I think, is the, you know,
the holes are framed by trees and tall trees.
So they don't, it's kind of like Riviera,
which doesn't allow you think about Tiger number one there,
BJ Singh never won there.
Fielding won there till late.
Bernie L. never won there.
So these amazing players, but who they drove it inaccurately.
So it didn't allow for the run-up shot.
It didn't allow for them to get over things.
So, you know, Hardy Park is, you know,
it's going to hold people accountable,
Tita Green, for sure.
It'll be interesting to see what kind of shape it's here
because it's been closed,
so it should be in magnificent shape.
You know, and a lot depends on when I get there if it's playing firm or soft.
If it's soft, it's, you know, it's going to be a congested leaderboard.
But hopefully it'll play a little bit firmer, you know, because they've had nobody on it.
And likely they've been able to prepare it exactly how they would like.
So if it's firm, then, you know, again, I think it gets into the typical PGA championship is more wide open
because they're play in really hot conditions where the golf course has to be soft.
So they tend to get pretty congested and allow for a lot of inaccurate driving.
But I don't think that'll be the case at Harding Park.
So you start to look at, you know, first of all the top of the food chain.
And that would be a John Rom.
That would be a Rory.
That would be Patrick Cantlay.
From a ball striking perspective, it's hard not to look at Victor Hovlin.
You know, there's very few people in the world of golf that hit a golf ball better than Victor Havlin.
So that's where we're looking.
We're looking at a golf course that demands control T to Green.
And that's a pretty small list of people.
You mentioned John Rom.
He's obviously gotten to number one in the world.
He made some comments this week about how his plan is to remain number one for a very long time.
That's part of his goals.
you tout all the time,
sign of the longer,
the length of the swing
and how good that is for longevity in the future.
And,
you know,
Phil versus Tiger in terms of Phil's
had the long kind of loopier swing
and the,
I guess his right heel comes up
and how that allows you to be less injury prone.
Guys like Rom,
like Tony Feeneau,
who's at the top of the leaderboard all the time,
but never wins with shorter swings.
how are they able to, you know, be some of the best players in the world?
John Rom is currently the best player in the world with shorter swing.
Yeah, look, I mean, nobody had a shorter swing to Doug Sanders.
You know, Doug won 20 times on the PGA tour,
but didn't exactly have great longevity in the game.
So it's not that you can't play great golf with a short golf swing.
Jason Day has a short-ish golf swing,
and he's reached number one in the world.
John Rom.
the shortest golf swing in the game right there with Fino.
And he's reached number one.
It's not that you can't play golf that way.
It's just that you're more prone to injury and you're more prone to a shorter career.
Few exceptions.
I mean, Lee Trevino won a major championship in 1984, 44 years of age with back trouble and a short golf swing.
And then went on and had a phenomenal PGA Tour champion's career with a short golf swing.
but the guy who won more events on the PGA Tour champions than anyone,
and probably the best player that was post-50 in the history of golf was Sam Sneat.
And they had long golf swing.
So look, Tiger has hurt from neck to toe.
Every part of his body has been injured.
He resisted.
He was taught by Butch harm.
Dustin Johnson is suffering from a back issue.
He resists.
Brooks Kepka is injured.
He resists.
Jason Day is a mess physically.
He resist with his lower body.
So all these players resist with their lower body.
They're injured.
Now, all of them are also fitness freaks and they're injured.
So which one is it?
Is it that they're injured because they're fitness freaks?
And they're training improperly because I look at their motion.
I'm not a physical trainer, but I talk to professional physical trainers.
And they're disgusted with their technique in the gym.
They look at, like example, Bryce of Deschambo posted a video of him doing squats with a trapboard.
And I reached out to physical trainers and I said, is this a proper motion?
And they laughed at it.
They were like, that is such a crappy motion.
When your knees go in, the word they use is valgus.
They're going valgus.
And that is, you know, the absolute worst way to do that squat.
Your knees should bow out.
you shouldn't go down as far as he was going.
So you wonder if these guys are training properly or are they not resting enough.
But regardless, the players I just mentioned, Brooks, DJ, Jason Day, Tiger Woods.
Rory McRoy was for a bit until he changed his training technique.
So, you know, are they injured because they train too hard and don't rest or train in them properly?
Or are they injured because of their golf swing?
Meanwhile, you look at Bubba Watson, who never went to the gym,
his biceps are that big around, and he hits you past all those guys.
Let's not laugh at that, by the way.
It's not like I got guns here.
Yeah, Frankie, you just put your arm up, Frankie.
Just put your arm up.
We don't need to do that.
Phil's never been injured.
Bob is not injured.
BJ Singh is pushing 60, and he spends,
every waking moment hitting golf balls and working out, never injured.
So I just say, you know, look, I mean, maybe golf has changed completely.
Maybe it's now your career is just compact, like every other sport, into just when you're young.
And that's it, because you're going to get as much out of your body from a short period of time as you can,
and you're going to sacrifice the long term for condensed success.
Maybe that's the way it is, because the game is becoming more athletic.
And if that's the case, so be it.
You know, I just think that most players would prefer to have longevity in their career and not be injured.
So I'm glad you brought up, Bryson.
It was inevitable and a big, big thing that I want to get to is Bryce.
And I heard you with Matt Janella on his, the fire pit a few weeks ago, and you broke it down and spoke about it very interestingly.
There's a lot to get to, and you have, you know, I think people know that you very much kind of, you know, argued against the heavy fitness crazy approach because it tends to lead to injury.
Now, Bryson is doing seemingly that times a million.
He comes out. He's put on 40, 50 pounds.
He looks like he's built like a brick shit house all of a sudden.
He looks like a cartoon character.
But it's working.
He's hitting the ball a mile.
He picked up a, what, 20-something yards.
He's won a tournament.
He's played really well.
What is most impressive to start with about what Bryce and Dijambo has done?
That's easy.
The fact that he's hitting it that far and hitting 61% of the fairways, that is mind-blower.
So what he's doing from a distance standpoint is not unprecedented at all.
The last time I looked, which was last week, he was just a smidge more than 27 yards longer than the tour.
average. Scores of players have led driving distance with a bigger differential between how far they
hit it in the tour average. Scores. John Daly did. Scott Hendon did. Bubba Watson did. Garragus did. J.B. Holmes
did. DJ did. They all separated themselves from the tour average by a wider number than 2070
yards. Now the year's not done yet. Maybe Bryson extends his lead. But from a distance standpoint,
that is not unprecedented. All those players I just mentioned, though,
hit 45 to 55% of the fairways.
So the hardest thing to do in the game of golf is it long and straight.
That's why Hogan was so good.
That's why Nicholas was so good.
That's why Tiger Woods was so good.
Long and straight is, that's it, man.
That is the geese pyramid.
You look at that and you're like, how in the hell can someone do that?
And to see a guy come along and, you know, I look at his body as maybe a very small percentage of his distance increase.
He's changed his golf swing in a drastic way.
And those changes, at least in my view, brought about most of this distance.
But they also brought about most of this accuracy.
And that is the most amazing thing about what he's doing.
So, you know, those that want to roll the ball back and return the game to a previous era,
look at what Bryson's doing and say, you know, it's terrible for the game.
but I think in a wonderful way, he shuts all of them up because all of them previously
have said it's all the ball, it's all the club, the athlete gets none of the credit.
Well, he was 20 plus yards shorter last year, same clubs.
And this is all credit to the athlete and the ingenuity of the athlete.
So for him to, along with Chris Como, there's an interesting puzzle here.
Chris Como sort of did his job and went into all these distance clinics that were taught by
my buddy Lucas Wall and a few other people.
But he went to those clinics, increased his club head speed,
took that information, came and experimented with Bryson in the off season,
and then also incorporated some accuracy moves within it.
He put that piece of the puzzle together in a very short period of time.
And it was like, it's like money ball.
Because now distances become strategy.
It's not just some freakish accomplishment that people have that's mysterious.
And people like, oh, they're just freaky.
You know, John Daly was a freak.
Bob Watson's a freak.
Justin Johnson's a freak.
That's how people always dismiss distance.
And here comes Brasson de Shambo, and there's a before and after.
And it's like, well, wait a minute.
It's not freakish talent.
He was the same guy last year.
And now he's this much longer.
He's like, there's an actual, there's a, there's a, there's a strategy here.
And I love that he went and figured it out.
So what, what is it about his golf swing?
What did he change about his golf string?
because, like you said, to the naked eye, to the average viewer, this guy got, again,
it looks like a cartoon character.
He's significantly larger.
He's posting videos about him working out.
He's talking about eating or taking down 10 protein shakes a day.
So everyone's like, yeah, you can just attribute 20 plus yards and distance gains to that,
to just strength.
Pure strength.
You're saying a huge portion of it, the majority of it is technique, swing changes.
So what did he change that has added so much distance and kept him accurate or even increased his accuracy?
Yeah.
When he first came out on tour, I'll just crudely use my head as an example.
When he made his back swing, his head pretty much stayed in one place, right?
He made his turn, right?
And it looked like his whole body was sort of leaning towards the target.
So first thing first, when he makes his back swing now and the initial move, his head moves off the ball.
It moves off.
So that is hugely important, right?
It gets pressure going to his trail leg, his momentum going to his trail leg.
And then after he makes that initial move, he straightens his right leg.
He makes a move to where he darn near gets it rigid straight.
The flex comes out of it.
It's like that of the dress and then it's like that.
But he used to keep flex in it.
So he gets that stretch, right?
He extends his right leg, which means he gets more hip turn, more shoulder turn.
And now he's got all this momentum moving to the right.
right so he's he's moving over here and then he begins to move towards the target as he's still
moving back so he gets this sort of buggy whip motion right it's hugely important where the arms
go down like this they go towards your body right they go like this so he's created all of this
momentum this buggy whip he's storing power and then as soon as he moves into his left side
he begins to rotate and extend all of these things in his like if this is the middle
of his back, right? The sacrum is what it's called, right? It used to, when he made the move in his
back swings, his lower body kind of went this way and it sort of stayed there and he rotated.
But one of the huge, I think, part of the recipe for speed is that this sacrum, if that's the target,
the middle of your back needs to be going away from the target in transit or in transition.
and as you become closer to the ball,
as you start to deliver the club to the ball,
your back needs to be moving away, right?
Your lower body needs to be moving away.
So if you think about a home run hitter,
their hips are nowhere near their front foot.
They're rotating.
Their lower back is moving in the opposite direction of the target.
So, you know, I grew up,
it's like hit against a firm left side.
You know, they say, Hogan moved left, right?
And then you rotate.
You hit up, but if you do that, you stall and you flip.
But everybody taught that.
Nobody teaches that now.
They're teaching.
They realize the advantage of power.
And so Bryson's just tapped into all those things, right?
And he's taken the time to assemble those pieces of puzzle.
Because these things, you have to assemble them slowly, you know?
It's like, you know, I don't know if you guys ever played with Legos,
but you get that damn thing of Legos.
I used to buy them for my son,
and I'd spend days putting that damn thing together.
You know, that's what this is like.
It's like you've got to put this little piece here,
this little piece here, this little piece here,
and the next thing you know, you've got a battleship.
And that's what Bryson's got.
He's got a damn battleship.
It seems like he's got to relatively quickly, right?
Like, I mean, it hasn't been that long.
Yeah, well, I mean, you know, beginning to last year,
I'm sorry, end of last year, you start working.
Yeah, you're right.
I mean, it's taken for five months, something along those lines.
Now, I think he and Como have been talking about these things for a year,
year and a half.
But again, you know, what Chris has told me was a lot of times when guys make drastic changes,
they can never find their way back home if it doesn't work.
So, you know, Chris has told me that along the way that they left breadcrumbs
so that they could find their way back home.
this damn experiment didn't work.
But you asked me earlier,
what's the most impressive thing?
I said,
I'll tell you another thing that's impressive.
Imagine having a job that paid you about $2 million a year.
You got this great job.
You're the boss.
Nobody gets to tell you what to do,
and you make $2, $3, $4 million year.
And you risk all that
by changing everything that you were doing
that allowed you to have that job.
I mean, that is an incredible risk.
He was having fantastic.
success. But he risked all that millions of dollars, being his own boss, an incredible way of
life. He risked all that. I mean, that is amazing. I just don't know many tour players that
would do that. You know, that's an incredible risk. And he pulled it off. This podcast is brought
to you by dude wipes. Dude wipes are the original flushable wipes for guys. Created literally out of an
apartment a few years ago by four Chicago dudes. Everyone is stocking up on toilet paper with

Those little moist towelettes that they're kind of like the body cleansers and they make you feel
cool and they got cooling beads inside them. I use them on my face after I had a really bad sunburn.
Honestly, before I went to the White House, I just needed to cool down. And I had them, I have them
stocked in my car. I had them stocked in my rental car when I was going down in D.C.
And I just cool myself down.
Like my body was hot.
I used them around my neck.
I use them on my face.
It's honestly, it's like a, it's a shower and it's a bath inside a moist towel.
And it's really good stuff.
And it's clean.
And you know that you're putting a good product on your body because you don't want
to use anything that's really bad when it comes to your face and your skin.
That's exactly right.
Dude has many products to stay clean and hygienic during this interesting time and all the time.
If you are not using these yet while dropping a deuce, do you hear yourself a favor and check them out.
You feel so much better.
That makes you laugh?
little bit. Yeah, I mean, I mean, the day I don't laugh at toilet humor is the day that I, you know,
I want to exit this earth. So if I reduce, I'm going to chuckle a little bit. Who does number two

I heard Kisner talking about it, and, you know, I expected Kiz to chirp him pretty hard,
and he had the comment after, I think, Kiz finished third that week when Bryce had
and said, you know, he's got too much time on his hand, and he's some kids or something.
And then he followed it up, and it was on the same podcast with Janella,
where he said, you know, he deserves an amazing amount of credit for putting in what it took to do this.
Because kids was like, even if I was younger, I didn't have kids.
And he's like, I'm not doing, I'm not spending every waking minute of my day to research what it takes,
confirm with someone, send that someone to clinics about distance, then learn how to change the swing,
then also go to the gym multiple times a day, add it all up, work on it,
day after day, night after night, and get to a point where I improve by 20 yards to, you know,
change my game that much.
Because, like, I'm going home and having a couple fucking beers.
That's just like what I'm doing.
And that's, on some level, that's what everyone's doing in some part of their life.
They're not just dedicating 100% of their time to this.
And Bryson did it.
And it's working.
And he's like, he deserves credit for that.
And he's getting rewarded for it.
And that's amazing that he did that.
It really is.
And I couldn't agree.
more with Kevin. I mean, at some point, like, well, your priorities change.
Like, I have a family. I got to go home. I got to be a father. I got to try to be a decent
husband. I got things to do in my community. Life takes over. Do I have 16 hours a day to
devote to a physical pursuit at the expense of every other connection I have with people?
I mean, not many people are going to do that. So you've lawed him for it. I used to just
joke when I played the tour that all the best chippers were single because, you know,
and it was Jose Amriel Othalo, it was Bob Estes, Brian, Billy Mayfair, these guys could
outchip you.
Boom, every time.
Boom, every time.
And I'm like, of course, you guys are great chippers.
You're not married.
You know, your wife's not sitting out there going, it's time for dinner.
Come on.
How many balls are you going to chip?
Okay, you've chipped 20.
They're right next to the hole.
You can make all his butts.
And I, you know, I used to tease this.
I'm like, see, you get married, your chipping's going to deteriorate.
You know, joking, of course.
But that's, you know, that's what Bryson, you look.
He's like, he said he didn't have a girlfriend.
He put out a video on Instagram showing his life, and it revolves around one pursuit.
And single mind, I've always said golf is the most selfish endeavor that I can think of.
You know, it is, you're, you're so singularly focused on.
one thing. And it's hard to play golf and have any sort of semblance of normality in your life
because you're thinking about what time you have to eat, what you have to eat, what time you
have to go to bed, what time you have to get up. And it takes an incredible amount of discipline
to do all those things. And, you know, if you have somebody with you and they want to go to
dinner and dinner is going to last till 10 o'clock, you're like, well, I'm sorry, I've got to get up at
four. I need eight hours sleep. I'm going to be in bed by eight. That means we got to
time to eat in 20 minutes.
You know, it's a tough, look, I'm not, they make millions of dollars the best of them.
But it's a, it's a tough, it's a selfish, all-consuming sport.
What is your concern level about Bryson getting hurt now?
We talked about all the great stuff, but he's done.
You originally brought him up clearly in a context of he's, you know, not doing the lifts
properly and especially in terms of the safety and trying to protect your body.
He's swinging.
I mean, that video he put out a week, a couple weeks ago of him just swinging 15, 20 times.
His hat comes off, is sweating.
Swinging as hard as he possibly can.
He does have this other aspect where he hikes himself up before his tee shots.
So he's doing all these things.
He's got to get hurt, right?
I mean, there's no way he doesn't get hurt.
Yeah, I mean, you talked about hyping himself up.
I mean, that's literally like getting his.
central nervous system charged up, right? It's like getting everything. It's all part of the process
of hitting the nine miles. And then, you know, and then the back swing, the quick back swing.
That is to energize the muscles. So all of that's cool. And from a golf standpoint,
I don't worry so much about him injuring himself with his golf swing because he's doing all
the things right to avoid injury, believe it or not. But from a fitness standpoint, from a rest
standpoint. Again, that is well outside my area of expertise. You know, you, you certainly,
and my friends who are experts in that area have looked at his form, and they certainly question.
And, you know, as Roy McRoy has, I think, made everybody in the sport aware, as Roger Federer
and Tom Brady have made everybody in the sport aware that you get stronger at night. You don't
get stronger during the day. You get stronger at night when you're resting and your body's repairing
itself. That's when you get stronger. You tear the muscles down during the day. You get stronger when you
sleep. And that's all from, you know, Rory and the people that created Woop and, you know, I think he was
motivated by Brady and Federer, as most people, most sports fans are. They're like, how are these,
these athletes with these incredibly physical sports maintaining this longevity or achieving
this longevity and it's through proper rest and and proper training i mean more longated physical
uh flexible uh sort of training so um you know when i've seen players make drastic changes
for what i would say are vanity reasons they've tended to get injured um i'm not sure that bryson
has made this change for vanity reasons this looks like it has utility to it um
My guess is his utility is the mass part of the equation of energy.
I think that's part of the utility of his mass.
It's not about so much muscular strength and vanity as it is utility.
So I'm curious.
I think I'm less inclined to think he's going to get injured because of the metamorphosis of his body
than I was with Tiger or DJ or Brooks or Jason Day or Rory for a short period.
time until he changed his training.
Talk a little bit more about the quick backstring, right?
Because conventional thinking, a lot of the kinds of, like, you know, tempo and bring it back
slowly and everything's going to be on plane and it's going to keep you in the rights.
And you're saying, Bryson is bringing it back quicker on purpose that energizes the muscle
talk talk.
Yeah, so if you watch a long driving contest, and that's what I love about the long driving contest,
is it's like, it's one big lie detector machine.
Okay.
Because if it were true that taking the club back slower, as you've heard forever,
take it back slow and gather it and that's how you really hit it for,
you know, Jack Nicholas said that he did that, right?
And that has, you know, it took root and it spread everywhere.
And it's like, you can't take the club back slow enough.
But if they were really true, if you could take the club back slow and hit it further or farther,
everybody in Long Drive would be doing it if it really worked.
But what works is when you take the club back faster, you energize the muscle.
And if you take those hard, those quick breaths, right, you activate the central nervous system.
And then you take the club back faster.
You're literally exciting the muscle.
And that leads to more link.
That leads to it.
I've done it myself.
I've gone out.
I've taken the club back slow.
I swine as hard as I could.
I've taken the club back much, much faster than I ever thought I should or would or could
and picked up nine miles an hour of ball speed like that.
Nine miles an hour.
I mean, I couldn't even believe how fast the ball was going.
I didn't even know where to look because nine miles an hour.
One swing is, that's a crazy pickup of distance.
So again, these are all things that are the sort of shattering the norms of the game.
you know, it's always been take the club back slow and gather yourself.
And again, you just watch the long drive.
And those guys, if resistance worked with the lower body, like everybody claimed forever
to build coil, they would be resisting.
But it doesn't work.
They don't do it.
If it worked that you could take it back slower and hit it further, they would be doing that.
But they're not.
And so we're learning a lot from the longest hitters in the game.
And that's why I love the long drive contest.
I think they're missing a bit.
In that long drive contest, they should have the longest straightest drive.
So they should have a dispersion right to the world would want to know who the longest,
straightest driver is because I'm sure it exists outside the realm of the PGA tour,
and I'd like to know who that is.
But beyond that, the longest long drive contest has my full attention.

She's, she's like the leader of some.
I don't know what M.B.'s title is, but she's very important when it comes to sales and advertisers.
She's like the bridge between us and the companies.
She actually sends us like the best photos.
And from what I've noticed from the first batch that's come in,

like it's going to get right into her tickler file.
Like that's the one that she likes to see.
And me too.
Like get creative with these fucking things.
Don't just take a picture on the ground.
Like get low.
Get the little blades of grass in there.
Let it look like the ice is just coming off the edge of the fucking bottle or something.
I want to see some artistry when it comes to these pictures.

I've noticed over the last six months or so that you've pretty,
pretty much boys now with Rory McElroy, who, you know, there's been some funny banter back
and forth. And you told a story on our show one time about how he came up to you on the set
and was busting your balls. And so it's not that you guys were, you know, sour and anything like
that. But your current relationship with Rory seems to be great. Why do you think he's
fallen from number one in the world? Well, he came back from the break. And, you know, he just wasn't
is sharp, you know, and, you know, it wasn't like he had a insurmountable lead. So he's, you know,
he's still driving the ball beautifully, but his irons haven't been as sharp. He hasn't been a sharp
around the greens, and he hasn't been sharp on the greens or as sharp. You know, to think about that
run he had before the break of something like eight top fives and to come back and play sort of indifferently,
You know, I thought that the break would help Tiger and Brooks and DJ and Spieth
on the men's tour and some others on the LPGA tour.
But I couldn't, you know, you think Roy was playing as good a golf as he could,
as maybe ever played.
And it was like icing the kicker, so to speak.
So his form has fallen off.
You know, I mean, my trainer and my teacher
is not a fan of him riding the Peloton.
Not at all.
He thinks that he thinks that, you know,
he points to and points out numerous players
who've made cycling of sort of a fanatical pursuit
and their games have fallen off.
So what?
I mean, what are we attributing this to?
You got a Peloton?
I did not see shots getting fired at Peloton.
on this. Although I did say that. I saw you sneak that in on when you were on the
golf channel. You did say something about Peloton and stuck in the back of my head. Like, why did you
go on Peloton? I guess your trainer is not a fan. Did you short Pelotons stock? I'm not knocking
Peloton. You want to lose weight, lose weight. You want to, you know, work out on social media,
work out on social media. But, you know, I got to thinking about it, right? And I can think of,
and I don't want to call players out, but I can think of about a half a half.
a dozen players that got obsessed with the bike and their games fell off and they disappeared.
So, you know, my trainer insists that from a speed standpoint, Arroy's lost a little of
his speed. From a speed standpoint. And, and again, I mean, I've, in the next four days,
I'm going to dive into this in a deeper way and I'm not, you know, I'm not, again, this is
outside my area of expertise. This is going to be a deep dive. Oh, man. I'm going to
Talks about how if you just work out, you need to work out your entire, this athletic chain from top to toes, right?
And if you're if you're just working out one part of your body, you disrupt the chain.
You're not sending an impulse all the way through the chain.
And it leads to, his theory is, a decrease in speed.
Now, this is his hypothesis.
And over the next, you know, a week or so, I'll dive in, I'll study.
But, you know, when you start talking about somebody's game falling off and there's still the number two player in the world, it's inevitable.
There's a lot of change at the number one spot in the world.
But, you know, his speed hasn't been quite as fast.
And, you know, I mean, that's, you know, I look at that a lot.
I look at ball speed, club head speed, just to see if there's a fall off and then you try to figure out.
why it's it's an inexact science and sometimes it can be the golf course um you know related but
but you know john rom was uh was a phenomenon that was going to happen he was going to get the
number one at some point and um everybody who's ever played with him knew it and you know Phil
Mickelson has been talking about it for ages so you know uh i think we're going to have a good
battle at that number one spot for for a bit because i don't think just Justin thomas is
going to go away and Rory's not going to go away and John Rom's not going to go away and
that's going to be a pretty good run for a while.
We can't let you go without talking about Tiger Woods.
It's been a weird, I don't know, weird 12 months or so last 12 months for Tiger with,
you know, it kind of just appeared out of nowhere in Japan and one of the Zosso and
then really didn't necessarily look sure.
Then in the President's Cup, he was the best player at the President's Cup, but sat out,
both rounds on Saturday, and then came back at the beginning of the year and
looked kind of hurt and tired and said he needed rest, even though he had the blame for a while,
and then showed up at the Skins game and looked amazing.
He hit every fairway, looked great, and then looked kind of sluggish and last week.
So what do you make in Tiger's game, his swing, his form?
Where are we at? How confident are you?
You don't flip a coin, you know, it's like which Tiger's going to show up at the BGA?
Is it going to be Zo Tiger?
is there going to be the tiger that we saw, you know, after the zozo, you know, at the last two days at Genesis or at the farmers, you know, at Memorial, he was a completely different person the second day than he was the first person, completely different person the third day than he was the second day. And he said it was all related to how his body felt, understandably. But I think that's that's the state of the game. I mean, he's day to day. And if his body,
is moving properly, then he can play golf well enough to win.
If he can't.
So every time he shows up, we're going to be zooming in, you know, how's he moving?
How does he look?
You know, I mean, we've always been hypercritical of every move he made, but even more so now
because, you know, it's so body dependent, you know, with Tiger.
He showed us that, you know, his iron play is sharp.
You know, his driver, you know, his clubhead speed was down memorial, his ball.
speed was 170.
His ball speed was 170.
That puts him in the middle of the pack.
So that means, you know, roughly half the tour can hit the ball harder than him.
That's a lot of people that are in between you and the top of the leaderboard.
So I worry about, you know, look, I mean, his putting has deteriorated.
His ball speed has deteriorated.
And he looks more fragile now than at any point in his career.
career, with the exception of, I should say, at any point since he came back in 2018.
And then you look at the age.
You know, I posted this and you, you quote tweeted and said, don't make me mute you
about how many players have won major championships after turning 44.
And it's eighth.
It's not a big number.
There have been three players who've won majors at 44 years of age.
So here they are.
Harry Varden, Roberto Divenzo, Lee Trevino in 1984.
There's been two players win majors at 45 years of age.
Jerry Barber won the 61 PGA.
Hell Erwin won the 90 U.S. Open.
There's been two players at 46 years of age win majors.
Old Tom Morris in 1867.
and Jack McHen, 1986, and then zero players at 47, and only one player at 48.
That is a short list, and the only player in that list, at least in my view, that resembles
Tiger from a physical state, is Lee Trevino.
So I would say one player after turning 44 years of age in the history of the game with a bad back
as won a major championship, and that's Lee Trevino in 1984.
So that's it, one.
So the odds, but again, those are odds.
Tiger Woods, he's better than any of those players I just mentioned.
You know, better than any of them.
And that includes Jack Nicholas.
So, and he has made a fool out of me predicting his demise one time short.
So, you know, I'm just saying.
I want that just to come up big a story it wouldn't be.
What were you saying?
I was saying I wanted to get you to say all that,
just so that we can play the clip
win all of those years that he wins majors.
I'm just, that's what the numbers say, man.
That's what the numbers say.
I'm just telling how great a story it's going to be
if he does it.
Because look, he'll show up there
looking like he did at Zoso,
and he, I wasn't working the Zosow week,
but I was tuned in.
And I could not believe
this is not to discredit the people he was playing against,
but it's just how good Tiger is.
He made everybody in his groups look like amateurs.
Their swings are not, I mean, who swings better than tigers?
They finish off balance, hit it in the rock.
Tiger was just piping it right down the middle.
And he looked like he had, you know, a battle plan that Patton had drawn out on a board for it.
You know, they were going into Sicily.
It was like game over.
So I hope that's who we see at Harding Park.
I do too.
I really do.
I look forward to your post that week.
Before we go, how's your beef with Brooks Kepka going?
I think since the last time we had you on the show,
he put your face on a dartboard,
and I just want you to have this platform to respond to anything.
You know, whatever you are?
It's crazy if you don't talk Brooks right now.
I think it's crazy if you don't talk Brooks, right?
Well, I will not let his ill opinion of me change the way I think about him.
I think he's a hell of a player.
I stand by pretty much everything I've ever said about him.
The beef that I guess germinated at the Masters, the year Tiger 1, 2019, originated that
originated that week.
If we could go back and play the tape, I was asked, does he have the strongest mining golf?
Like, well, as long as Tiger Woods is in the game, no, of course not.
And I'm not willing to cede that area because he won on what I would say were wide open soft golf courses.
Good on him.
He won them, beat everybody else.
But they fit him perfectly.
So, you know, I don't have any problem with Brooks.
As a matter of fact, the more I've read what he has to say, I'm entertained by the guy.
I think he's pretty sharp.
And I think he's pretty funny.
I think a lot of what he does, he's trolling people in a pretty humorous way.
Didn't bother me.
I think when I saw that post, I was like, well, it was during what was meant to be the PGA championship.
So I was like, clearly it's a major week because you're hitting the target.
And we have a mutual friend who, you know, who, you know, I know I know Brooks is a pretty playful guy,
pretty funny guy. So I like him, you know, what I know of him. I like him. Um, you know,
he doesn't like me. That's fine. I could care less. I have a job to do. And I think, uh,
at least in my view, I was pretty accurate that way. It's good for you to get that out because,
you know, a lot of people think otherwise, especially people at our company. I know that you've
gotten into the mix with a lot of the part of my take, um, gang. I know that they're on. I don't know
if you've noticed who that is that goes after you, Big Cat and PFT. They're, they're friends of Brooks
Kepka and they like to give you a lot of shit. And I don't know if you've ever like really
noticed any of that that they're coming after you. Because I mean, it's part of our company,
right? They're huge Brooks guys. And I just couldn't not bring it up because I know that every
day they're calling you brandy shammy. They're calling you all these names. I don't know if that's
something that gets under your skin. I know Big Cat wanted me to ask and this is a big cat fit.
It's not a foreplay bit. Is it pure jealousy your hatred for Brooks or is it the run of the mill
bitch behavior. So that is something that people are thinking. Now, I'm not, I want, I want you to get your
take on that, right? Like, people think that like you may be jealous of Brooks for some reason. I think
that it's your chance to, you know, get that out there and answer these questions. Well, you know,
again, I think that Brooks, you know, was upset with me because, for another reason, right? So he and his
brother Chase were teammates at the Zurich event, and they were shuffling up towards the leaderboard.
And, you know, I made a comment that I don't think.
it's equitable. I don't think it's fair. I don't think it's right. That a tour player
should be able to pick another tour player should they win in a team event. And that tour
player then gets an exempt status for the next two years. You know, you could pick Tiger Woods in
2000. He'd take any one of you four guys and they could win an event. You could win an event.
That's Tiger was beating people by 15 shots. He wouldn't need your help. And all of a sudden,
you've got a tour card. Now, do you deserve to have a tour card? Not at all. You do not. I didn't think
that was fair. I don't think that was something that they would have thought could have happened
before they decided to give full exempt status to a team event. I thought that was a poorly
thought out possibility that could happen. Said as much, Brooks's father was mad at me,
Brooks was madamee, Chase is mad at me. I don't have anything against them. As far as I can tell,
Chase is a fine player. His father seems a nice enough guy. I don't know. But that's the way I felt
about. Certainly wasn't personal. And again, look, I think Brooks is a marvelous player and has done
some historically damn near unprecedented things. I mean, it puts him in a very certain
aspects, four of eight majors. I mean, that puts him in Hogan, Tiger territories. So he's done some
amazing things. I don't, I don't dislike Brooks at all.
He's living a great life.
I think he's pretty exciting to watch play golf.
He seems to be pretty darn sharp.
But I mean, I understand him not caring for me.
I totally get it.
It doesn't bother me.
And again, you know, I don't know Big Cat.
And I don't have anything against Big Cat at all.
He's got a lot of followers, and they love to attack me.
It doesn't bother me.
I block them only because, like, look, I look at Twitter.
I've said this before.
I look at it as a party in my house.
And I don't mind people coming in my party and having a good time and disagreeing with me, not one bit.
Don't care.
Love it.
I love disagreement.
But when you start breaking dishes or being rude, you got to go.
Okay.
Because it's my picture, Big Cat, throwing dishes.
Just seriously taking out all your silverware.
This is my house, right?
Calling your names.
So I follow people on Twitter I want to learn from and read from.
And if people, you know, if that's his stick or whatever it is, I don't know.
knowing I'm sure he's a nice guy if I met him. I'll tell you this, I have unblocked a handful of people
in my life on Twitter that through various friends have asked me to unblock them. And I've ended up
being friends with most of them. You know, and I've blocked, I've locked a couple people twice.
After I unblocked, I was like, no, you were an asshole. I thought you were, you really are.
Boom, you're blocked. But a few people, you know, I've unblocked.
gotten to know them and thought, you know, look, I really enjoy this person.
If Big Cat's on the block list, give him another chance.
I think that you'll start attacking me.
He probably a nice enough guy.
And again, I don't think you should unblock him at all.
I just keep him blocked.
I'm a reason fine guy.
But I, you know, it's like I only have so much time in the day.
human nature is right i don't know how you guys are but if people rip you and it has any validity
to it rich but some criticism does us a favor i mean it's not like any of us should be completely
except for criticism will do right we all we all need to be slapped occasionally and look if i if i look
at criticism and it's well-founded and put out the right way i'm like good point you're right
thank you for correcting my thing i enjoy it i don't i don't i don't i don't mind criticism it's
just how it comes at you. If it starts out, hey, listen, asshole, or dip shit, or dude,
or bro, or bra, which now then Big Cat will start his tweet exactly like that to me.
Yeah.
Which would be fine with me. He's probably funny enough guy.
But I don't hate Brooks. I enjoy Brooks. There you go. That's all we needed.
I just think Tiger is the better player and stronger mental.
You know, and why...
I think we agree with that as well.
Why, you know, the problem is,
is when you promote somebody to general,
everybody thinks you demoted everybody else to corporal.
It's like, you can still be a general.
It's just like, you know, I'm sorry,
this guy's Eisenhower, you know?
And, I mean, that's just the nature of what you do.
People are going to get upset because...
Right.
I don't think that you do let personal stuff seep in,
clearly by your notepad.
You're a numbers guy.
You do the research.
And then you, like you said, you go deliver and sort of sell the points that you came to with your research.
And if certain people, certain people are inevitably not going to like that sometimes.
And that just is what it is.
That's the nature of what you do.
And that's never going to stop.
It's never going to stop.
And they have a right to their opinion.
It can rip me.
And it's the, you know, I don't want to know most of these places.
or really any of them because I don't want to like or dislike them.
I just want to go on the air and say what I'm going to say without worry about, you know,
how somebody feels about what I say.
But that doesn't mean I have license to be reckless.
You know, I want to be accurate and I want to be fair.
And if I feel one way or another about a player, you know, it's, it's harder to say exactly
what I want to say the way I want to say it.
Yeah.
Well, once again, I appreciate you coming on.
I always enjoy the insight.
We all do.
Our listeners do.
We don't know anything about a lot of the stuff.
Nothing.
You're able to break down.
So a nice change of pace and being able to actually hit them with knowledge,
back it up with statistics and facts and history,
I think goes a long way for our listeners and preparing them for a major championship
and getting into a handful of some of the best players in the world.
So we very much appreciate the time, Brandel.
Hey, listen, my pleasure.
I enjoy following you guys.
I always enjoy the debate.
You guys are sharp
and look forward to seeing you guys again down the road.
Thanks, my friend.
Thank you, Bram.
Cheers.
