Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, 4Play listeners, you can find us every Tuesday and Thursday on Apple Podcast, Spotify, or YouTube. Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. Oh, Rick! What's that my brother? I've got a buddy who struggles with that shot. He'll like, his name's Frankie Borrelli. So the guys actually gave him a nickname of Butterknives because he always knifes it across the green. Brok 100.
Starting point is 00:00:24 Now you've got to break 90. We appreciate what you guys do for golf. It's been really cool. Thank you. You're making it cool. I was like, hey, Phil, you only fucking 2999. And he grabs 100. He's like, yeah, I won 90,000 of these yesterday.
Starting point is 00:00:37 He goes, take 100 and go fuck yourself. What? What are you guys? It's ain't a hobby. Spring tournament day two live recap. That's what we're calling this puppy. I love it. We are obviously on a weather delay.
Starting point is 00:00:54 And we got some scary stuff going on. We pretty much spent the whole pre-show looking at the footage of this tree. Pretty terrified that somebody just got smashed underneath this tree, but all the reports seem to be that from the tree fall, everyone's okay this far. Dan's our journalist, so if that's not true, we'll just blame Dan Rappaport. Yeah, no, ESPN is reporting that there were no injuries, really, really frightening. There's a lot of trees that I guess the National that are very old, and, you know, I'm looking out the window now. There's a serious storm brewing that's been coming all week finally came and yeah just really really lucky that no one got hit by that thing yeah man the pictures
Starting point is 00:01:32 are stunning uh there's some images coming out now and it's a completely uprooted tree just off the 17 t box like if there's just people again the reports of that nobody got hurt which is great because the video is scary um but if nobody got hurt that's like that's a miracle it's obviously a pack day at augustin national the masters is happening some wind blows the tree goes down right like that's you know what like that that golf course is there 365 days a year and wind can blow 365 days a year. Weather is pretty unpredictable. It just happened to come down on the day where there's thousands of people out there.
Starting point is 00:02:07 It's a nightmare. I mean, that's everyone's night. When you own a place, like, if you, like, have an establishment, like, you just don't want something like that to happen. I guess I've never really thought of it that way at a golf event. You are outdoors. It's an outdoor sport. Things could happen.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Things could fall from a tree. A branch could fall, knock somebody out and just kill them. You're out there in the elements. I mean, it's like being at a restaurant and like something falls, like a light fixture just falls. Like you're just, you don't really think that that stuff is going to happen. But man, when you see something like it quickly happened, that tree fell within a millisecond. And I'm not a, I'm not a woodsman. I'm not an outdoorsy person.
Starting point is 00:02:42 I've never seen a tree fall. I've never been not a lumberjack. A lumberjack. I've never seen a tree fall in my life. Seeing that tree fall was stunning to me. You have like a split second to get out of the way. You have pretty much no time to go out of way. That thing falls.
Starting point is 00:02:55 I mean, it's over for you. That thing fell really, really fast. I know when I bought the Pinehurst place a year and a half ago, they do serious coding and checks on the trees around the home because if those things fall like that, I don't care if you got a brick home structure. When that thing falls, the way we saw it fall in that fucking video, you got no chance.
Starting point is 00:03:13 It's over. So the fact that nobody got hurt with the crowds and people scurry it out there, if that turns out to be true, is fantastic. I was very nervous that any reports of somebody getting hurt would be seriously delayed because there's no phones. so anyone that's on site can't really, if they saw something, can't even really communicate it to the outside world,
Starting point is 00:03:31 and Augusta would be in charge of that. And that only happened 15 minutes ago or whatever it was. So hopefully everybody's okay. Horrifying video. The weather's coming in. This has been pretty much a scare for a week now that this tournament, this Masters was going to be a bit of a disaster once we got into Friday.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Weather-wise could be a Monday finish. The whole deal. It is bad there. Dan just showed us the trees behind him. weather looks terrible. Probably not going to let up until like Sunday is kind of what I'm hearing, that there's a big fear that it's going to be pretty shitty now through Sunday. And before we even get to the weather,
Starting point is 00:04:06 we just have to mention that we're going to talk a shit ton about the dynamics of Brooks Kepka from Liv, going up against an amateur, going up against John Rob from the PGA tour, who's in front of the program. So we got a bunch to get to Tiger Woods trying to make the cut. Freddie Couple is going to be the oldest player in the history of the masters to make the cut. But weather's the main topic. So Dan, are you scared for your life? right now with those trees behind you.
Starting point is 00:04:26 I'm going to stay in this room until it, until it calms down. I actually think tomorrow, so tomorrow's supposed to be a lot colder and rainier and windier, but I don't think it's going to be, wow, the trees are really good. I don't think it's going to be as much thunder and lightning. It comes through that. So, you know, I mean, hopefully you're okay, but it's just the end. Yeah, it's going to be a battle.
Starting point is 00:04:45 I think tomorrow's going to be like a nasty, nasty weather day. I think, yeah, I think 12 under would win, will win this tournament easily. I think it's going to be a real slog to the finish. Yeah. I mean, Brooks got, Brooks gets super lucky with that early tea time today. He's just that, that early way, that's like ideal because you could just score. And now like the rest of the tournament is just going to be chaos. Credit to him too. He said that yesterday. He was like, from what I'm seeing, it looks like we're going to get the great end of the draw. So I need to go out there and play well. And he did. He lit it up. He really never looked at all like he was in trouble.
Starting point is 00:05:19 At any moment, he had a few putts in the back then that he could have really gone deep, that he left. I have short, but boy, is he absolutely dialed. Looks amazing. We talked about it already this week several times. The quite interesting dynamic in my own brain, and I imagine everybody's brain of him looking like he was down and out, but then that coming out this year, and that was from last year because full swing filmed it last year,
Starting point is 00:05:45 and he was struggling all on the Livtor and he's been hurt, and then he looked like he was pretty miserable, and he was on that putting practice screen. He looked miserable. Then he wins on the Livtor last week. And, oh, and the Florida video came out of him at the Panthers game. He looked weird in a dark place, whatever. Maybe he was your shit face.
Starting point is 00:05:59 And then he wins a live tour event last week. And now he is just embarrassing against National making it look fucking crazy easy so far. Yeah, he's been saying for a couple years that he's, I feel like he said he's finally healthy so many times. Like, I feel like it's a thing that we've been hearing from him. Oh, I'm finally healthy. Now I'm finally healthy. Well, it appears to be true this time because, you know, I think when he was winning majors, he would just be. This reminds me, this performance so far reminds me of the first two rounds at Bethpage Black, where, you know, there is no golf course in the world that has a defense for 310 yards with two yards of cut right down the middle of the fairway.
Starting point is 00:06:34 And that's what he keeps on hitting time after time. He's setting himself up so well with his driver. And his putting looks really good. Like that's the other thing. You know, you talked about on full swing, how much he was struggling with that. He was putting in his room. The putting stroke's funky, right? He lines it up off the toe.
Starting point is 00:06:48 There's a loop in it. But he had a couple of like six to eight footers. on two and three and six today, that those are the puts that win major championships. They keep the momentum going. They keep the card clean. He looks like he's going to be really, really tough to beat. Again, it's going to be a slog. So, you know, it's not going to be the same style of golf that it has been these first two days.
Starting point is 00:07:09 He's been going at every pin. The greens are a lot slower than they've been. That's what most of the guys have been saying because of all the moisture. The course doesn't quite have the fire. So it's been a lot more aggressive golf than you can usually play at Augustin National. He's going to have to play differently in the next two days. What was the quote that he had after his round? That was interesting.
Starting point is 00:07:25 Yeah. Yeah. So someone asked him if he was feeling this good and was playing this well at the time when Liv made the offer, would it have been a harder decision? And he said, yeah. He said it would have been. He then said, you know, I'm happy with my decision because he's probably not trying to deal with a whole other new cycle of people saying, oh, do you want to go back?
Starting point is 00:07:45 Do you want to go back? But that was a pretty notable admission, I would say. You know, I'm sure Liv didn't love it because he was. basically saying my game was in a bad place so that $100 million. Yeah, it makes sense. Like it's super understandable. The thing about Brooke and, you know, I'm happy to see him up there just because of the storylines.
Starting point is 00:08:02 I get that. But he's just got everyone like the general public fooled. I think that we are very into, we're very into the golf world. I think people that are just casual sports viewers still view him at like in my buddy's group chat. They're like, that guy Brooks, man,
Starting point is 00:08:17 what a guy. He doesn't even give a fuck about this game. And he's out there making birdies. and shit. I'm like, he fucking cares so much. He is a golf nerd. You have him wrong. He's not some. It's Gucci bra. Let's go surfing. And then maybe we'll like see if this ball goes in the air. Maybe it gets in the hole. And if not like these golf nerds could take their hardware somewhere else. Like, fuck you, dude. Fuck you. It's not how it is. It's never been like that for him ever. He used to be some ugly fucking grinder on the like on the fucking European tour. He was never this hot
Starting point is 00:08:49 Jack fucking Brooks Capka doesn't give a fuck. I can pull up the pictures and the receipts. He gives a fuck. No, he does. And part of that public perception, he goes against in his own press conferences. So he doesn't completely make it up. Like,
Starting point is 00:09:02 they asked him about how he felt about missing the cut after last year's masters. And he said he almost broke the back window of his car. He was punching it so hard. So he cares. It's just that people like, for whatever reason, look over those quotes and they look at like,
Starting point is 00:09:16 you know, I wish golf was only 12 holes. And I don't want to play the events at our, of the majors. But he, but if you look into his press conferences and into the things that he says, he definitely cares. Yeah, I think he cares about being competitive. I think he views golf as a competition. And he wants to win the competition. So I asked him, because he was saying, you know, if my mobility never came back, I probably would have retired. And I said, if that happened and you retired, do you think you would play golf for fun? Or would you just be done playing golf?
Starting point is 00:09:45 And he kind of paused. He said a good question, which not to brag, you know, we had a couple hiccups earlier this week, but he said, good question. Didn't say good question anybody else. And he said, like, not really. Like, I'd play maybe once a month, but I don't, this is my job, and I love it. I love competing, but you know, I think he is a golf tournament
Starting point is 00:10:03 nerd. Maybe not a golf nerd. It's not golf nerd, but like he, to Frankie's point, he grinds over trying to be really good at golf. He does not show up for the majors in a literal sense where he literally hasn't picked up a golf club, since the last major championship.
Starting point is 00:10:20 He might show up in the sense that, like, he brings it at majors, but those clips from full swing are him alone on a putting green at his home course, fucking rattled that he can't make a six footer. He's not starting online. And he does that for hours and hours and hours every day. And he did it to the point where he went to the European tour. He went to like the Asia tour when he wasn't making it on the PGA tour. He did everything in human power to make it in the game of golf because he is a golfer.
Starting point is 00:10:45 That's what he likes to do. And to Frankie's point, I do think it's infuriating that he has worked to cultivate this image with the part of my take crowd of that of like he's just kind of a football guy's guy who's in a golfer's body and like doesn't really care but he shows up at the majors and he's just better than everybody. And that's not true. He works his dick off at the game of golf. And when it doesn't work out for him, he wants to be good at golf so badly that he tries to break the back windshield of his Mercedes and the whole deal, which is great. That's fine. Tiger Woods does that.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Kevin Kisner sent me a picture a couple of years ago. and he missed the cut at the masters of his broken putter in the back of his truck. Like you want to be good at golf when you're these golf guys. And what's infuriating is that image of like people being like, I haven't tuned in since the last major. I'm pretty sure at the last major Brooks was winning and then he just doesn't care. And then he's winning. And that's just not the case.
Starting point is 00:11:36 Like he wants to be really good at golf weekend and week out. And so that is infuriating. But then the other side of it is you just got to tip your cap of the fact that this fucking guy just shows up. in major championships and brings it to the point where no one on earth was given the live guys much really credit at all or thought that they could have a chance. And he is just steamrolling this golf course. I got a text being like, you think he'll even play until the next major? It's like, shut the fuck up.
Starting point is 00:12:04 Shut up. At a certain, it's contractually obligated to do it. He has worked. He has worked to cultivate that image. But at a certain point, the onus falls in the general public. And the general public doesn't care enough to look into golf.
Starting point is 00:12:17 because the everything that you guys are talking about is public all that stuff is public record the things that he said on full swing is public the thing he said about uh wanting to break the window of his Mercedes is public so it's like I mean he he'll go on the big shows and be like you know on this I kind of don't care blah blah blah but then in the on the on the in between it's all there it's all you think I mean do you think he genuinely is obviously opinion do you think he genuinely regrets with how well he's playing he won what two live events already and then now he's might win the Masters. Like he could have won the players, Bay Hill. Like this guy could have had an all-time PGA tour year. Do you think he's sitting there being like, fuck, man. I don't know if it's like exactly that,
Starting point is 00:12:59 but I think if you said to like Brooks, you could go back tomorrow and there would be no penalty. With the way he's playing. I think he would say yes. Well, he said it. I mean, he said this week he misses competing against these guys. You know,
Starting point is 00:13:09 I think if he could do it and go back, he would. For me, I think he feels that way, Frankie, during those tournaments. That's my guess. Like during the players,
Starting point is 00:13:17 during the Phoenix Open, during the President's Cup. I think he probably has those feelings. Right now, or even last week when he wins live, I think he's very content. And like, we're all that way, right? You're always, you're always sort of biased to whatever's happening currently in your life. Like the week before, shit might have been awful.
Starting point is 00:13:33 And you're like, dude, this fucking, why am I even doing this dumbass fucking job? And then the next week you have a big interviewer, a big viral video. And then your girlfriend of your wife's nice to you. And then all of a sudden it's like, every choice I made is perfect. Like life's fucking great.
Starting point is 00:13:45 And so I feel like he's probably right now. because he looks like he's going to win the Masters. I mean, anything could happen. But he's probably not regretting anything. But two weeks ago when the players championships is going on, and he's not looking good and people were chirping about the full swing thing and he should face it, a Florida Panthers game looking weird. Like, he probably was pretty regretful at the time.
Starting point is 00:14:04 So I think he's definitely felt those moments. But, boy, I guess that's a long way of me saying, like, winning the Masters takes care of a lot of regrets. His health is a big question. Like, we've never fully known. He's always a little cagey and like we never know completely what's going on. The quote today is a bit of an admission that like he wasn't the healthiest when the live offer came. But I do think he's being genuine when he says if I had remained as healthy as I had been when I won those four majors, I don't think he goes to live.
Starting point is 00:14:35 That it's at that point it's a retirement tour. You get a hundred million bucks. You don't have to play as much. The spotlight isn't as crazy. But now when he wants to compete and he can compete at a very, very, very high level. He probably wants to play more against the best in the world. Riggs, you have been saying for a while that it's only a matter of time until the cracks begin to show as far as, like, guys on Live and what they're talking about. There's a couple things this week.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Oh, yeah. Right? You got Varner saying, you got Varner saying what he said. And you got Brooks saying what he said, which Liv will not love at all. Right. That's basically him saying that I viewed this as sort of an escape hatch. It's going to be interesting to see how they respond to that. Like, what's because guys are starting to be a little more honest now.
Starting point is 00:15:14 completely and I that's just human nature right that's human nature with anything that's that's that's human nature with if if there's a kid that's a really really good hockey player and he gets recruited to UMass and then you know he was always a little bit of a problem in high school and then he transfers after his first year at UMass and he's like he ended up getting a deal at at at Cornell and he's for that first couple months he's like dude the Cornell team these guys are great it's gonna take into fucking December January like he's gonna come home on break and be like well I'm fucking school. You know, it's like, no matter what it is, there's human nature where people are not just going to be 100% in love. Everything's perfect with the decision they made for the rest of their life, especially not a crew of people that notoriously just cause fucking issues and bitch about stuff. And when you've got the reeds and the Kepkas and the Brysons and this whole crew of guys, there's just shit's going to come out that they're not going to be thrilled about now that we're a year into it. That's obviously happening. And I, dude, especially these guys being thrown into the masters now too may go from those environments on the live tour to augusta national in how iconic
Starting point is 00:16:21 and monumental every second of this whole week feels historic oh they got to like that there's no way you don't go home and think man like no every every tournament on the tour isn't like this but you get much more of a taste of it when you're at uh phoenix open when you're at tbc sawgrass when you're at austin for the match but all the stuff that they're just not really probably able to satisfy themselves and they grew up trying to chase they're getting a little taste of this week and that's got to be fucking infuriating we keep talking about and we said it prior to the masters that if a live guy wins it's huge for live like this was going to be their like moment to get back into the storylines and you know be a you know be a force in golf but the more i think about
Starting point is 00:17:04 it like if briskkept could just wins like what is it actually proving about live it's not like it's it's not like it's a light bulb thing that's going to go off and be like oh they have good golfers over there if you actually think about this right The reason why live is like, quote unquote, a problem or a disruption is because we've always known they took a lot of really good golfers. It's not like we forgot. It's not like we don't know that Brooks K.M. Smith, Dustin Johnson are extremely good golfers. This is not proving anything to us. It's just like, it's actually reminding us how much like, I guess the PGA tour messed up by not keeping these guys.
Starting point is 00:17:35 I guess that would be the only positive for them that really would like enter our minds as like general golf fans is like, oh shit, that PGA tour really. does need like a Brooks Kepka out there because he's fucking capable of winning majors. He's such a good talent. I'd also say the quotes that we're talking about are somewhat eroding the celebration of a live guy winning the masters. Like if all those guys rode in on their live horses and they had live flags and they were, they had everything was like, we love live. It's the best thing ever.
Starting point is 00:18:03 You guys not watching or missing out. It's unbelievable that you guys won't watch us. We're on the CW. Check us out. But instead, it's like, you know, Harold Varner is saying what he said, Brooks is saying what he said. So the win now becomes like, oh, a guy who is a part of Live one, but it sure doesn't seem like they're happy. There's no chance in hell that the green coats would let that happen, just a just a zero percent chance that that whole like celebration on the 18th
Starting point is 00:18:28 green. And also Brooks is probably the last guy, Brooks and DJ are the last guys who would want that. Like, that's their moment. They don't want that to happen. The one thing I would say is that there's, there was a narrative among players of like, I'm going to stay on the PJH word because this is where the best players in the world play and I want to play and I want to test myself against the best players in the world on a weekly basis. The thought there being I need to keep myself sharp. If I want to win these majors and win these big tournaments, I need reps against the best guys. This would poke a small hole in that in that argument. So now if Brooks wins, do you think that this opens up a lane for PJ tour players to be like now, I mean, that's more appealing to me now? Does Liv become more
Starting point is 00:19:07 appealing to guys that were on the fence by Brooks Kepka winning the masters? I, I, I, I, I, I, I just don't think that it's no. I mean, I don't think so. That's that that wouldn't make sense, but that feels like sort of a overreaction. Yeah, I don't think so because I don't think that like would satisfy the reasons that they weren't
Starting point is 00:19:24 going to go, right? Like I, I think the reasons they aren't going to go is not because like, if I go there, I'm not going to be as sharp and can't win the masters. Like I think I think that's a concern among the media and like talking and listen to live from. And that's probably a little bit of a concern maybe in their minds.
Starting point is 00:19:40 But at the end of the day, I think, like, they were either going to go for all of that money, as Harold Varner III said, or they made the choice of, like, my path on the PGA tour and this other way is, like, the route that I want to go. I don't know that, like, it ever came down to the deal breaker is like, I don't know if I'll be able to contend in a major if I haven't been playing on the PGA door. So I'm agreeing with you. I think mostly on that, like, I don't think this is going to really change anything necessarily if Brooks, the live guy wins. but I do think it's going to make, it's going to create a a massive amount of fodder
Starting point is 00:20:15 that the live guys and Greg Norman are going to use. Like, you know, we won the fucking masters. That's just what they're going to be able to do and say. They're going to be able to say we won the last two majors. We won, Ham Smith won the Open Championship. 150 of St.
Starting point is 00:20:29 Andrews. Brooks won the Masters at your iconic Augusta. Anything else you guys need us to fucking do for, you know, like they're going to be able to supply that card. It does affect the media narrative. It affects the media narrative. of saying, oh, this is an exhibition.
Starting point is 00:20:40 It's like, well, there's been two really huge tournaments in the last whatever months, and our guys have won both. It would just be way cooler, I guess is the word. If Brooks was super happy with Liv, wins a green jacket, and in his speech is like, oh, I thought I wasn't going to be able to play because I joined this league. We're awesome. You guys are missing out.
Starting point is 00:20:58 But I just don't think it's going to be like that. I think it's going to be pretty down the middle if he ends up winning. Like, yeah, no, it's a huge honor. I've always wanted to win this tournament, and that's it. A lot of brus. I also think we're ahead of ourselves. I was just going to say, frankly, you always, you always call John Rom the problem. Dude, I was saying he's not under.
Starting point is 00:21:14 We got a guy that's nine under and he's just getting on his back nine. He's three back. We have Bo Vincent in the chat, by the way, because we are live and anyone listening on the podcast, we're live on YouTube. We got a guy who donated $10 to the Barstall golf YouTube page. And he goes, who's taking the dub this weekend, boys? So thank you for that, Bo Vincent. But I think it's John Rom still. I don't think that.
Starting point is 00:21:36 I think John Rom is a fucking issue. It looks like he starts to coast as the day starts. It's like he's yelling at himself. He's looking at his cat. Why is the put going this? And why's it going there? And then he just starts swinging with the might of like of the rock and Moana. It's like he just, he has all this power.
Starting point is 00:21:52 He's like a demigod. I've never seen anyone swing as hard as him. I don't care what the stats say. He swings the hardest in the league in the league. He is out. He's outrageously fucking fat. They just showed another video of, they just showed like a video, a zoomed out video of the tree falling. And it's one of the craziest things I've ever seen.
Starting point is 00:22:08 And were there people that were close to getting crushed by it? Oh, yeah. I don't know. There were people that were like around. And then everyone kind of rushes to it. Tell me this donation, by the way. Is that the right term for this? Because we're not, I mean, we're a four-profits.
Starting point is 00:22:22 This is a, this is not a 509. Hey, like, if he gave us $10, I can pay my rent. I'm saying, like, if he gave us $10, like, I'm taking $250. You guys, you know, I mean, we're not. This is not a donation. Oh, no, no, no. Yeah, it's absolutely for. profit. I mean, I think there was a, yeah, I mean, you can make them as donations or you can make
Starting point is 00:22:43 them as profit. Today, we can make them as profit. We did do donations once. And we actually raised a shit ton of money. We were playing PGA Tour 2K23 or it was 2K21. Yeah. We raised like 10 grand playing that video game on a super chat donation thing. And we gave it to the MET section of the PGA, of the first T program. That was an amazing day. We basically played for 16 hours straight until we made a hole in one. That was nuts. But today, absolutely for profit. I was, I was most bummed about the horn because John Rom was just getting into a rhythm. He was just starting to take off. And listen, I want John Rom to win. He's just a big, hairy Spanish winning machine. But like, I don't know what the rest of the tournament's going to look
Starting point is 00:23:26 like. I have no idea. I know. It's hard to, we appreciate Bo Vincent. We appreciate your payment. I'm not going to call it a donation. Your payment to the fellas. He said who is going to take the W this weekend. I'm looking at this thing right now. The one thing that could alter this, obviously, is the weather. I mean, if it's just chaos out there, like when they came back on Saturday at the players championship last year and the wind, I mean, it was just sending golf balls off the planet. And what your score was previously almost didn't even matter because it was pure anarchy out there, then, you know, things could tighten up. But right now, it's looking like John Rom's, he's, he's 900 for the tournament through,
Starting point is 00:24:07 nine holes today and he's probably going to get to, you know, stay at nine or get to 10 or 11, you got to think. Sam Bennett, the amateur, who's got a phenomenal story. He's at eight. And then the next couple guys, you got Morikawa, Hovlin at six. Hovlin, it looks like, is kind of not clearly not holding on the way that we thought he was going to be able to hold on. But what, we got another payment. Bo Vincent just sent $50 and goes here, rigs lunch on me. This guy must be rich. This guy's out of control right now. This is what happened when we did this that one time.
Starting point is 00:24:41 It's like these guys just, they get off on just sending money. I don't understand it, but Bo Vincent, thank you. We will, I'll get a lobster bisque. To answer your,
Starting point is 00:24:49 yeah, I will do. Actually, I'm going to a little step up now. To answer his question, who's going to win this weekend? I don't, for whatever reason,
Starting point is 00:24:56 I just don't see the Kevka green jacket thing happening with, I just don't see it. I'm going to go John Rom. I, you know, I know that's not like an out-in-the-limb pick. I think we're really only down to like three names at this point. I mean, there's a decent chance.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Is Sam Bennett a name? Are we, are we just calling Bennett a name? Is he a name? No, yes, I mean, can you win it?
Starting point is 00:25:21 Yes, yes. Yeah, is he like when we say there's three names left. You think he can win it? The name? Yeah. He can win the Masters? Yeah,
Starting point is 00:25:27 we got, how are, I'm saying, we're going to have, we're going to have, okay, I'm just saying, we're going to have two guys at six under,
Starting point is 00:25:33 and then we're going to have like two leaders one's at 12 and the other guy might be around 12. It's almost a fucking, you know what I'm saying? Like that's kind of that they've separated themselves dramatically at that point. It's not like they're only a couple strokes. I know, but it's like one water ball here and there. It's like, yeah, it's just anything can happen. Stunning round of golf, by the way, today from two guys, two of the three favorites.
Starting point is 00:25:55 Scotty Schaeffler shot 75, which I did not see that coming at all because he shot 68 yesterday. Are you going to answer Beau Vincent's question? He paid for it. I would say Rom. I would say Rom. And then we got to talk about Rory McElroy. I'm wearing pants.
Starting point is 00:26:10 Rory McElroy missed the cut again. Yeah, he did. Why are you showing your pants? The guy goes, Frankie's not wearing pants right now. I had to answer that. Yeah, Rory McRae. Can we just talk about Scotty real quick before we got into Rory? I mean, like, Scotty was not Scotty today, not just because of the score, but he was
Starting point is 00:26:28 like rattled. He seemed bummed. Yeah, he was annoyed. He was on tilt. He was angry about the way that his balls were moving. moving on the green and like looking at Ted Scott and giving a lot of like what was that? And I think at one point he cursed. Like I've never seen him cursed.
Starting point is 00:26:42 It was like it was fucking ridiculous like under his breath. It's just what the hell got into SkyShuffer? Do you think for a guy that says I drive the same car and I have the same house and I don't care about all that, just kind of play golf. I'm going to be this. No one's going to remember me in 100 years. Do you think the legacy kind of got into his head a little bit where he's like I could have a chance.
Starting point is 00:27:00 I have a chance to win two masters back to back. I could be that guy and it's not going my way right now. I'm really mad. It's not. I think he's been putting poorly. And as any golfer knows, when you put poorly, it's so, so, so frustrating. You feel like you should be getting way more out of your rounds. And it feels like you're never going to make a birdie again.
Starting point is 00:27:18 And look, he has had this incredible stoic demeanor. But he talked about when he was a kid. Like he definitely struggled a little bit with anger and stuff. And you could see it early in the week. He was Randy Smith, who's his coach, long time coach was working on his putting. And Randy's kind of asking him to like do something. And he goes, I don't know what you're fucking. talking like he kind of snapped at him i think there's been an issue with his putting and i think
Starting point is 00:27:38 it's probably bleeding into the rest of his game did say on our podcast was that at liberty national that like we were like why do you act like you don't care he goes i used to be a lunatic yeah remember that was that him yeah yeah dude we saw he's like i used like anger issues he's like i believe at at the event yesterday we saw him in the most shocking fashion i think i've ever seen we got to talk about fireball here in a second but he three putted the 11th hole and then walking from the 11th hole to the 12th T, which is an iconic walk, especially if you're a master's champion. Yeah. Everybody goes crazy.
Starting point is 00:28:08 Sam Bennett was putting out still. And he is walking from the 11th green to the 12th T, just talking to Ted Scott, just rattled to the point where at one point he was looking at him, he's going like this and he goes like, and he's literally was like, yeah, fucking rattled walking up to the 12th T. Like unlike anything I've ever seen before. And he wasn't even watching Sam Bennett put out who had like a three or four foot or whatever the hell it was for par, just going like this, like talking with, uh, with Ted Scott.
Starting point is 00:28:34 So we can tell then that he was unbelievably rattled. And then I'm watching him today. And you kind of could see him melted down a little bit. And then he four putted on nine. And I was like, this guy's clearly in a bad spot with his putting. So to Dan's point, I think it's probably more of an ongoing issue
Starting point is 00:28:48 that he's had for several weeks or months or however long it's been with his putting. That's infuriating him because yesterday, they were talking about it live from last night. They're like, yesterday, if you're a Scotty fan, you got to feel really good about the way he's hitting the ball because he didn't post anything particularly low, like four under.
Starting point is 00:29:03 still pretty damn good, and he putted like shit in his mind yesterday, too. But today he kind of came on glued, and you're right. We haven't really seen him look like that. He was fucking rattled all day long. We got a question here from Alec. In Dan's opinions and his opinions only, is Spieth still in this thing? No. Is he at five?
Starting point is 00:29:22 I mean, he's at five. It's possible. He was talking about this early in the week about how he always in it. Then how do you not think it's like a two-man, right? Well, I mean, there's guys, I think the six guys are. So one stroke just takes him out of it. That's kind of crazy. I'd like to see the second round finish before, you know, determining that it's a two-man race.
Starting point is 00:29:41 But like it's possible that Hovlin could, you know, the stoppage could have helped him. He could get to nine under. I mean, there's still a lot of golf we played in the second round. The thing that Speed was saying early in the week is that a lot of his top finishes at the Masters, he's been chasing and they've been backdoor and he's put himself behind. And he wanted to get off to a really good start. I think he probably doomed himself last yesterday when he hit the ball. on the, he bogeed 11, or no, he both, he hit the ball in the water on 11 and then he hit the ball.
Starting point is 00:30:06 He went forward on 13 from the pine straw, which was, I thought was an unbelievably bad decision. Like, he had just hit it in the water on 11. He's kind of wobbling. He was playing great. Just get out, you lay up there, hit your wedge on the green, make part at worst. Birdie, give yourself a birdie look and said he hits it in the water and then he made double. And he did well to get it back in the house. And he's back to five under. But it's those little mistakes, those little flips and momentum that you just can't really, You can't really get past that if you're going to win a major championship. I think it's crazy.
Starting point is 00:30:36 I mean, I don't think that this is a two-man race. I'm seeing a lot of names up there. I mean, I think if you're within six strokes on Saturday at the Masters, you're not in this thing. I know the names up there are problems. I know you got John Robb. I know you got Brooks Kebkegut, but anything can happen. Jason Day made a double on 50. Was it 15 today that he made a double on?
Starting point is 00:30:53 It's chilly dipped one. He hit it. He chunked a shit on it. And that guy was, I mean, I've got a future on Jason Day to win this thing. And I was like, I thought, I thought for sure Jason Day. was going to run away with the masters at one point this week. And anything can happen in the blink of an eye at this place with the wind, with the weather. You can see a guy like Colin, just like being calm, cool and collected while everyone else kind of freaks out.
Starting point is 00:31:14 I'm telling you, man, I don't think that this, I think we're going to see some shit tomorrow, some crazy shit. Fireball is some fantastic shit. It's all about helping you push away of the little annoying parts of golf. Turn the fun up on the notch a little bit and have some fun with it. Enjoy yourself. We know what Fireball is. We know what fireball is all about the birdie shot of golf. Number one shot in the United States.
Starting point is 00:31:36 Fireballs, 50 milliliters shooters are the perfect shot for the golf course. Throw a bunch of your bag ready to go whenever you need them. Plus no shot glass or chase or needed. You just crack it and knock it back. That's actually a great point. You throw those shooters in. You don't have to worry about a cup or ice or anything else or a bottle opener. You literally just whip those puppies back, gone.
Starting point is 00:31:55 Enjoy yourselves. It's great. You can throw a 10 pack in your bag of the fireball shooters. And then we're also doing a giveaway right now. with an excellent, excellent hashtag trend. Do you remember what our hashtag is right now? Hashtag fireball, rip the nip, I believe. Ripped the nip.
Starting point is 00:32:11 We got one in today and the guy did not hit a good drive. So if you are, if you're out there and you can get that 10 pack of the fireball cinnamon whiskey nips, you're going to take your shot, you're going to put it on the ground. You're going to have to figure out how to get that golf ball on top of that plastic nip while it's empty. It's kind of hard. There's a lot of physics to it. But once you do, rip the drive. rip the nip we're going to see it i watched the one today it was a kind of a pathetic performance
Starting point is 00:32:36 but he did it and i saw it and i interacted with it so you can do the same make sure you go and get fireball rip the nip challenge yeah we're giving away uh we're giving away some gear so some fireball gear some fun gear two winners of that so do the old fireball rip the nip send us a video if you're doing it trying to tee off like your own trent ryan and uh and we we had a great time of fireball tuesday night if you don't if you don't have fun of the fireball it's on you're a loser we said that many times for and I'm going to stand by that. I don't think it's a two-man race at all. I was just trying to point to the fact that man, we're going to have a situation potentially where there are two big names, two major championship winners. One guy's the best player, one of the best players in the
Starting point is 00:33:16 world. The other guys won four majors. He's only won four tour events and four majors, I believe, is his win total and two live events. And if you get one guy's at 12, the other is somewhere between nine and 12 under, next closest is an amateur at eight. And then you guys, a bunch of guys at six, they would have to, they would have to have a pretty shitty weekend and not have one of those to win the event. But it is going to be a weekend to have a shitty weekend because of how bad the weather could be. Someone can shoot 78 tomorrow easily. That wasn't going to happen today because of how gentle the golf course was playing.
Starting point is 00:33:45 There's a high variance tomorrow. It's not your Scotty Shep for a Rory Macquarie. Yeah. Yeah, Rory, I mean, the guy's last three masters are missed the cut, solo second missed the cut. bizarre. What are, is he, is he just want it too bad? I don't know. It's a good question.
Starting point is 00:34:01 I do know that and it's and I know it's only been two tournaments and I know he's the goat, but it takes a lot out of me watching Tiger Woods ride the cut line. It's just, you're just like, he's just riding the cut line. That's it. And like I want him to do much better than that. And we're just getting to a point where that leg and it's, there's got, the guys at the top are so good that it's, it's just takes a lot out of me watching our guy sometimes. Yeah. It's exhausting.
Starting point is 00:34:27 I completely agree with you. It, it really stinks when, when, when, when he has the round like he had yesterday, where he sort of feels like he's way behind it early, and then he has a late tea time today, and someone like Brooks goes out and posts the number he posts, that it really takes all the fire out of Tiger's round, unless he starts five under on the front nine,
Starting point is 00:34:48 it's like, you know, it's not happening. And guess what? We didn't become Tiger Woods fans to root for him to make fucking cuts. Yeah, it'd be great. I want to watch him play golf more this weekend. Cool, fun. We are Tiger Woods fans, we want him to fucking win.
Starting point is 00:34:59 That's what this guy does. it's what he's built to do. That's his DNA. And so when he tees off and he's two over and he's limping around the putting green and you got Brooks Kebka's already in the house at 12 under. It's like, well, what are we doing here? Yeah, it's turning into Tiger needs to just have the best, like Thursday. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:17 It has to be Tiger's Day. If Tiger can post a five under on Thursday and the next Masters and the next major he plays, we're all in. Then all of the juices start going. Then that's where like, holy shit, Tiger's back and all the other players. It's in steps their brain. reins. But for right now, if that putter's not going to be hot, I mean, the guy hit a shit ton of greens. He's been hitting greens all weekend, all week. Um, he just can't putt right now.
Starting point is 00:35:38 He's not putting himself in good positions. If he can get that going on Thursday, it's his only chance. That's literally his only chance. The thing that's scary is that the Thursday of this master's was a scoreable day and he still couldn't. Right. But there was potential there for him to score is what I would argue. Yeah, I agree with that. It's not like he was hitting it out of the, like he went one under from holes eight to 18. So I mean, if he just doesn't play three over golf in fucking the first seven holes, that's a much different story. Tiger Woods is playing a whole different tournament. From what we've seen, it's it wouldn't be crazy if he was four or five under right now.
Starting point is 00:36:12 It's not like he's a million miles away from that. Yeah, he's not, he's not hitting the ball of water. He's not, he's striping the ball off the tea. His irons are good. Right. That's what it is. It's like when you watch him play, it looks, it looks pretty solid from a ball striking perspective. He's got plenty of speed.
Starting point is 00:36:27 He's got that. He's been moving. Yeah. Like, yeah, he's being Rory. It's not, it's not, it's not depressing, right? Like, it's not like, oh, you know, when he was playing at Southern Hills last year in the PGA, like, Rowe's tough to watch, he couldn't really get around. He was hitting these, like big slices with the driver because he couldn't swing. The shots are there. I mean, he ripped a freewood around the corner. I was 10. You know, he hit on an incredible freewood up eight, right, right to the front of the green and then chipped it to two feet. Like, the signs are there. It's not, it doesn't look as though he's a guy who was playing his last master. or anything like that. He's just shot to Phil Mickelson. Shout out to Phil Mickelson. Wow. Wow.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Yeah. Wow. That's insane. That's crazy. That's crazy. What the fuck was out of that? Shit. Are you kidding me?
Starting point is 00:37:12 Two shoutouts to Phil Mickelson right in a row. Shout out to Phil. I mean, the name pops out at you. Like it's jumping off the screen. You see him T-10. The guy went, what, three under today?
Starting point is 00:37:23 He's four under sitting there in the fucking clubhouse. Other guys need to go out and finish their round. They could end up being worse. Phil Mickelson will tee off in the third round, probably in the top. He will finish in the top 10. That's amazing. Phil Nicholson has a chance to win this Masters right now. He's just not talking.
Starting point is 00:37:39 He's walking. He's walking. That's crazy. He's talking. What are you saying? He's talking. He's talking a little bit. He did interviews.
Starting point is 00:37:47 He's been grinding, man. That's the thing is, although he hasn't been playing well at live events, it hasn't been for a lack of effort. He's been one of the last guys on the range. He works hard at it with Andrew Getson. I think he knows that the best way to flip the script is to play good golf again and to be on TV and flashing the thumbs up and things will be forgotten. You know, people who aren't holding grudges against Phil Nicholson forever.
Starting point is 00:38:10 If he can keep it up this weekend, I think we could see a big sort of shift in the narrative around. Guy I want to major a year and a half ago. Craziness. It's so crazy. It's one of the craziest things of all time. All right. We think they're going to get this thing going, what? Tomorrow afternoon, Dan, maybe.
Starting point is 00:38:26 I just, I definitely don't think it's officially suspended. Check in my email. Is it official suspended for the day? I don't know. People in the chat were saying it's suspended but they're also saying
Starting point is 00:38:34 that I have a feminine forehead. I'm not seeing a couple of things though. I'm not seeing anything like official place suspended read more. Read more. Yeah, no, not official, but again,
Starting point is 00:38:44 it's getting dark. There's just no chance that they're playing to start tomorrow. As early as they can. The second. Yeah. I don't know. I mean, it looks terrible all day tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:38:55 But I think they can play. I think it's playable because there won't be lightning, but I think it's going to be just a miserable, miserable day, which will probably be pretty fun to walk. I was going to say, that sounds kind of exciting for a guy who's not playing in the master. What a Saturday we have ahead of us, man. Just crazy. You know, the Masters is not supposed to be this.
Starting point is 00:39:12 This is reserved more for the U.S. Open carnage and the open where it's howling sideways and windy. But I do like the drama. I mean, like I do wish I could wake up on Saturday morning and watch the birds chirp in and watch the azaleas kind of move softly and you see Amen Corner. I don't really want to see puddling around 12 and I don't want to see, you know, everything start to turn purplish and it's like awkward and it's like muddy. That's not the masters to me.
Starting point is 00:39:39 But if it's going to make this a tighter race, Thursday was nice. We already got Thursday. Beautiful. We got Thursday. I will say that I got that surround system in in my house and they definitely got to stop with the birds. They're obviously hitting the button to just play the fake bird noises.
Starting point is 00:39:55 And I think like whatever they do, they, so they put. it to like stereo right right and like when you actually like do it you're able to kind of push it around and when you have surround system it actually does what they're doing as opposed to just listening to it straight from the TV it all comes from the same place they're actually so I'm
Starting point is 00:40:12 I'm hearing birds all over my living room and it's fucking infuriating dude it's crazy I had to watch it on you champagne it's every two seconds champagne problems my friend that's champagne problem your surround sound bird noises from the match the birds are chirping too loud on my surround sound they got to stop
Starting point is 00:40:28 Stop hitting the fake birds noise. They gotta stop hitting the fake bird noise. I have to give a shout to Barbudi and the tailor made crew. I got my brand new. My Spider GTX that I designed that just came in today. I haven't even touched a golf ball with it. I might try to go putt later. But yeah,
Starting point is 00:40:47 I went with this copper sort of finish on it. Oh, it almost looks like it copper makes it. It looks like it's changing colors. No, it's like copper and black kind of. really what I'm trying to. Oh, there we go. Oh, yeah. You cannot wait. Guys, I, I got something from at Mike S.C. and Barbuda that I can't talk about for another like week. But when you guys see the equipment that I got sent to my house, you're not going to fucking believe.
Starting point is 00:41:14 You're actually not going to believe it. I can't wait to make a video to show people what I have. I can't even think about what it could be. Dude, it's crazy. It's crazy how good it is. It's crazy how good it is. I can't wait. I can't wait to use it. I can't wait to talk about it. I can't wait for people to watch videos of me with it. It's, I said it to some people that I know and trust that they wouldn't put it out.
Starting point is 00:41:38 And they're like, what are you fucking sex story? So in a week's time, I will be putting it out. It's better. It's way better. It's way better than that. Okay. Well, crazy.
Starting point is 00:41:49 Yeah. It came with a handwritten note being like next week. You can't talk about until next week. All right. Well, tomorrow. We'll be back. I don't know what time exactly. We're going to kind of try to figure it out with play.
Starting point is 00:42:01 But we'll be back. We're doing a show every day talking about what the hell's going on in the 2020s tournament. I'll just be honest. Like I might not be here tomorrow because I got the New York Islanders playing the biggest game of all time tomorrow. So if that happens at 7.30, I won't. Maybe I'll just go live from. I'll go live from UBS on here.
Starting point is 00:42:17 That's fine. Bring your AirPods. Oh, yeah. Bring your AirPods. Yeah. All right. I'll do that. 100%.
Starting point is 00:42:21 100%. 100%. I'll be on this show straight from the game. 100%. Perfect. There we go. All right, boys. Enjoy your Friday night. Let's go Tiger. Let's make that cut. Make a charge. We'll be back tomorrow. Hit it hard. Hit it hard. Hit it hard.
