Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, 4Play listeners, you can find us every Tuesday and Thursday on Apple Podcast, Spotify, or YouTube. Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. Oh, Rick! What's up, my brother? I've got a buddy who struggles with that shot. A lot. His name's Frankie Burrilli. So the guys actually gave him a nickname of Butterknives because he always knives to the cross the green.
Starting point is 00:00:24 Rock 100. Now you've got to break 90. We appreciate what you guys do for golf. It's been really cool. Thank you. You're making it cool. I was like, hey, Phil, you only fucking $29.99. And he grabs 100.
Starting point is 00:00:34 He's like, yeah, I won $90,000 a piece yesterday. He goes, take 100 and you go, fuck yourself. What? What are you that different? It's ain't a hobby. Foreplay. We are a bar stool of sports podcast. We are presented by Chevrolet.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Evie's for everyone everywhere. I don't know that anyone's ever gone this hard, this early for the players' championship, but I'll tell you this much. 4Play podcast has pretty much become a players championship stand account for a couple weeks now. And I'm here for it. I think it's going well. I don't know what gives that impression. Why are you saying like?
Starting point is 00:01:09 Is it the visual? There's nothing. Nothing's changed. We all look the same. And I just have to guess that there are plenty of clips out there of us really taking kind of an opposite stance on a lot of things. Players championship related, Goldman. I think we've made a lot of fun of the whole thing and the capitalization. Yet here we are, fellas, head to toe.
Starting point is 00:01:30 We're pretty much painted ourselves gold at this point. We're still over a week away from the tournament. But we're great, a lot of buzz around the players championship with our video coming out, scramble. We got our merchandise in the tent. We're just all players championshiped up, it feels like. Well, I mean, when the merch is this good and, you know, we put out clips, we've put out pictures, we've put out graphics with the players merch on it.
Starting point is 00:01:53 And I have yet to see one person say, that's not the cleanest. merch I've ever said I've ever seen everyone looks at it and says well that's just the best merch you guys have ever put out and they're probably right yeah we nailed it I mean our merch team absolutely nailed it Quinn nailed it Alex and Allison and Pilar nailed it everybody that's associated with putting these logos on these pieces of clothing just hit a absolute no doubt about it walk right out of the batters box home run just a no doubt flyer to the top right section of the upper deck I mean what the fuck are we doing as a four play golf podcast, getting our merchandise inside the players, which is their premier event.
Starting point is 00:02:35 This is it. This is what they do. This is what the PGA tour does. This is how they put asses in the seats. They say that we have a tournament, that people are even going to argue that is it a major? It's so prestigious that some people say, like, when you win it, you're just as big as a major champion winner. And we have our stuff right when you walk into the fucking merchandise tent. We've got the biggest section.
Starting point is 00:02:58 that I could ever imagine of just polos and quarter zips and hats and hoodies and just everything's so clean. This is the thing. It's not like we, it's not like we threw our logo all over the place and like, like this is just the player's stuff. It just happens to have our logo on it. Like that's the craziest part is that we have the players best stuff that they offer.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Yeah. Look, I don't know. I mean, we've had a lot of moments where it's like, uh, pinch yourself. Is this like,
Starting point is 00:03:23 how do we get to this point type stuff? The fact that we have come full circle. that we have merchandise that is co-branded with us in the Players' Championship and the PGA Tour in the tent at the Players' Championship. Phoenix Open was really, really, really, really, really cool, really cool. But I think that would have made a little bit of sense to people, even right out of the gate of like, there's one spot to do it. That's probably it. It's a party.
Starting point is 00:03:48 It's the People's Open. Barstool brand fits a lot with the waste management, Phoenix Open brand. Players Championship is protected. it's clean, it's their flagship. It is the major of the PGA tour. And for us to have this clean-ass logo and then the barstool golf logo on the side and the hoodies and all this stuff, it's insanity. It's really cool.
Starting point is 00:04:11 It means a lot. I know Trent posted about this yesterday. It means a lot that people have supported us so much and that the fans continue to buy stuff. That is what allows the PGA tour and the players championship to be like, okay, this is resonating with people like, we should do this. Like they might like us. They might enjoy our content, but they don't do this unless there's numbers,
Starting point is 00:04:32 baby. Numbers never lie. And those numbers come from people supporting, buying, watching, listening, all that. So really, it's kind of the journey and it's people being there with us along the entire way. And then us and our merch team and everybody kind of working and doing things that we even really know we're going on. And then boom, our stuff appears and is already presented in the merch tent.
Starting point is 00:04:52 So if anybody has the Wednesday or Thursday before players, championship week even starts tickets you know you can check out our merch right now it's in the tent yeah you can only get it uh in the tent on the on location at the tournament i know a lot of people asking because the hoodies are just so clean that everyone is asking like where can i get them where can i get them you can get them at the players you got to go if you're going to the event go get it it's going to go fast because people love it there's a lot of buzz surrounding it and that's the only place you can get it you got to go to the tent you got to go to the that's it it's the only place yep it's an amazing world that we live in that this is happening and everyone's
Starting point is 00:05:32 like oh you shouldn't be you shouldn't be so shocked like i'm so sick of every single time something happens to you guys you guys are shocked as if it shouldn't be happening uh sorry i'll never get used to the next big thing that happens to us like i'm not used to having our merchandise and our work and all of our stuff our logo that we've worked so hard to you know build up to this point is now associated with the flagship event of the PGA tour. We are a golf podcast. This is this is as high as it goes. We are that we are a golf podcast and we are now inside the biggest golf event for the PGA tour. It's nuts. For Bolt to Blazer, Equinox to Silverado, Chevy EVs are for everyone everywhere. I love the bow tie. I need to get one of those. I need to get a hat. They actually have me
Starting point is 00:06:21 and Alex Bush are looking. They have like a rock hats that are sweet. They're really retro from like 20 years ago that I need to get because every time we do and we talk about Chevy and the EVs and how they're for everyone everywhere, how there's over 2,000 certified EV dealerships around the country, how there's charging stations going up everywhere. I want to have one of my cool like a rock Chevy hats on. Yeah, I mean, Chevy merch is out of control. I've seen it. I've seen it before. I've seen it a lot at NASCAR events and just looks really cool. Old school Chevy hats with the emblem on them. Chevy is just like an all-time logo. So anytime you can throw that thing on anything It's worth watching. It's worth wearing, worth driving.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Best company of all time. I bet it's very prevalent at NASCAR. There's some Chevy people out there that are just gigantic Chevy fans, obviously. They've got electric vehicles Chevy available now. So you can buy now the Bolt EV, the Bolt EUV. You can reserve now the Silver Auto EV, something coming out pretty soon that we're involved in that shows the Silverado EV. And they are off the charts, how cool they are. They're affordable.
Starting point is 00:07:26 You don't have to be rich to have an EV. establish full line brand over at Chevrolet that you've come to know and love and respect. So go check them out. Go to Chevrolet's website. Build out your own EV. Get your own look for yourself and get in the EV game because Chevy's got EVs for everyone everywhere. So we got a couple big things coming as well. We got the Scramble video that's out now.
Starting point is 00:07:53 So if you're listening on Thursday, the Scramble versus Billy Horshull is out. TBC Sawgrass, 17th hole, the whole deal. Another tight match, very tight match. Billy Horschel on a tough day. If people remember the year, just a, no, no,
Starting point is 00:08:10 I guess it was last year. Was it last year where the players was so delayed because of weather? And then when they resumed on Saturday, it was chaos out there and everybody hit in the water on 17. Like the first couple groups that came through is like three of the top six players in the world or something like that. We're in a couple of those groups and all of them hit in the water. It was so windy and difficult.
Starting point is 00:08:31 J.T. was hitting five woods from 190. yards and then hitting pitching wedges from 190 yards like it was chaos out there it was a day not quite as severe as that but pretty similar it was cold it was like high 40s low 50s at max cloudy and windy out there and we played from like frankie said in the last show played from one one step uh off the front of every back teabog so we pretty much played it back or as close to back as you can play it so it's playing really really difficult um we get four shots at it. Billy just has to play his own ball. It came down to the wire like it pretty much
Starting point is 00:09:07 it always has. We play these pros. Uh, and at an iconic venue where we got to hit all the shots. And, um, and yeah, it's, it's pretty much a must watch for us. The scramble's back. It's a must watch. I mean, at this point, it's been out, well, it came out last night at 8 p.m. So hopefully we're not spoiling anything, but there's an, you got to go watch it. So spoilers. Uh, you're going to spoil it. I mean, are we going to talk about it? And people can skip over it, right? spoil it? I don't think enough people have watched it yet. All right.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Not enough people have watched it yet, then fine. We'll wait until the next one. We'll wait until next week. We'll wait until players week to really dive deep into what happened. What I will say is just some, I mean, 17 is obviously what people are going to be most attracted to. Some very funny shots, some very iconic shots. Like, you got a mix of pretty much everything with this crew teeing off on the 17th hole. Yeah, 17 didn't disappoint.
Starting point is 00:09:59 17. No, big time. And then I would. 18 was like one of the coolest like things that I've ever done personally in golf for me like stepping up in the big spot like I just I keep thinking about that like there's one of those like simulation moments where I talk about how barstall is the only place that we put ourselves in these situations it's like walking in the ring at rough and rowdy it's like stepping onto a hockey rank as spit and check that's event you have all these people around you stepping up to like a
Starting point is 00:10:27 quote unquote major venue and like having to hit a big shot and like coming through was like the heart is in your throat like you feel that bouncing happening and you're like can i overcome this and then you do and you're like oh yeah i could see how people can do this i could see that like feeling that you get and you like want to chase that for the rest of your life like now i know what they're they're talking about i could feel that sauce dripping down my throat a little bit so yeah that's a little and now yeah that's that's quite a tease um and billy horschall now just one of our favorites should be everyone's favorite as well like the fact that like it all came together so fast. I don't know if we've talked about that at all where it was just last minute
Starting point is 00:11:06 like we're like we're going to be, I mean, we three or four days maybe. Dr. Brett McCabe. Dr. Brett McCabe shouted to him for basically. He facilitated the whole thing. I message him. I'm like, hey, we're going to be in Florida. Do you think Billy would want to play us at TPC sawgrass this week? Like, is he home? Like he's not playing this week. And then he goes, let me ask him. And then he goes, let me ask him. He's like, he's in. You'll, you'll hear from him tomorrow. And then the next day, I got a text message from a random number being being like, Hey, Frankie, it's Billy Horshiel. You want to play Friday? And I said, yep. And then we just booked flights down there and we just made it happen. And we were flying from San Diego, I think.
Starting point is 00:11:41 I think we were doing tailor-made stuff. So we were just kind of, it was all coming together at the last minute. But again, shout out to Billy for taking, you know, six, seven hours out of his day or whatever it was to just come play us. And then we had a little bit of dinner afterwards. And he was like, it was a great time. And we went our separate ways. That was one of the, uh, that was kind of the peak of when we thought, weren't going to be traveling much part of the year when we traveled nonstop i mean we flew
Starting point is 00:12:05 i was three weeks it was insane flew from we flew from we flew all the way out to san diego we were in san diego for like two days and then we had to figure out how to get from san diego to jacksonville on a friday which we did which was not easy because we had to fly you fly against the sun the whole deal then we drove from orlando like two or three hours up to jacksaville slapped woke up filmed all day with Billy at TBC Sawgrass and then went to sleep, woke up and then flew. I had to fly all the way back to Arizona. That's when I couldn't get into the Delta Sky Club.
Starting point is 00:12:38 You guys flew all the way back up to New York. So yeah, it was a hell of a travel experience. It happened really quickly. Big shout to Billy just being like, yep, I'm in. He showed up, gave us his time, did whatever the hell we wanted and brought his game. So it's a great video. Didn't we do John Rom in that trip too? We did John Rom like a handful of days later, didn't we?
Starting point is 00:12:58 or a week later maybe. I think it was the next week. It was the next week. Yeah, so we got back on Sunday and then we flew out Tuesday. We flew out to Arizona on Tuesday. Yeah, man. It's, you know, it's a good problem to have when we just got a lot of shit going on. Barstall Classic's about to kick back up.
Starting point is 00:13:15 Like, we're not stopping. We're just going to keep going and keep going. And I don't want to tease anything too far, but this merch stuff is kind of going crazy. So just everybody, it's going to be a great year. We're having a, and it's going to be a lot of travel, but it's going to be worth it. The merch is getting outrageous. We have major announcements coming up when it comes to the merchandise. And we're starting at the players and we're going to just keep this thing rolling.
Starting point is 00:13:34 But yes, major, major announcements are going to be funneling through here. So speaking of Barstool Classic, we got on this show too, Josh Isner, his partner, Brynne Mahoney, who won the Barstool Classic last year, which is very funny because he's one of my best friends, one of our very good friends. He has intertwined himself a lot of our stuff, the lock incident out at Spanish Bay with Frankie and his dad. The dad bought a classic, which we've talked about in this show every year for the last three years or so. He basically became Dave Portnoy's personal assistant during the Phoenix Open and the Super Bowl week a couple weeks ago in Phoenix.
Starting point is 00:14:13 He has a pirate dog tattoo. So he's very intertwined a lot of things. And then he won the Barstville Classic last year. So he and Mahoney, his partner, are going to hop on the second half of the show. Talk about that. We've got to preview our week coming up. which is pretty much the best buddy's golf trip probably in history or we go to pebble beach we're playing pebble spanish bay spyglass hill um we got a crew of 20 guys playing golf 24 total there's a couple guys that are um social members of the entire trip so we got to preview all of that go through a bunch of stuff um so get hyped up for that get ready get excited uh all right i have some from the gallery that we can get to okay wow i know i know i know We did a lot of Bay Hill talk in the last episode.
Starting point is 00:15:03 And last week, we did a lot of, especially last Tuesday show, we did a lot of golf talk for this podcast. We spoke a lot about the Genesis, Tiger, Homa, coming up short with John Rahm and John Rom vaulting into the number one in the world. I figured we could do a little bit from the gallery because it's been a long time. And we need people to submit more because it's been so long since we've done it that we haven't plugged it. So you email for Play at barcelports.com, title it from the gallery, because I just search in the email thing from the gallery, and then write something short. If it's long, I won't read it. So write something short, question, hypothetical, concern, whatever you might have. And if it's interesting, we'll talk about it on the show at some point.
Starting point is 00:15:44 So we're going to start with Anthony. Anthony says, do you think the live players will wear their live team jerseys uniforms or you want to call them at the master's? and other majors this year. Somebody had a tweet thread. I guess like they got access to the contracts. Was that legit? Because they were reading off or tweeting off. I saw that.
Starting point is 00:16:05 I think that thread was legit. The guy didn't have any followers, but he seemed to have obtained somebody's contract. And I think in one of the tweets, it said that they are permitted to having to, having to wear live golf merchandise in all non-live golf events. So they're they're contractually obligated. Is that, is that what it is?
Starting point is 00:16:30 Then I mean, that's what they were essentially saying in this tweet. And it seemed like it was all legal jargon. So I don't know if he was just copying and pasting or if he was just like paraphrasing. But it seemed as though that they have to wear live logos no matter where they go. DJ and Sergio recently got dropped by Adidas. They didn't get their deals re-up. So what else would they wear, I guess is the question.
Starting point is 00:16:51 It's funny. Nothing. The, uh, one thing I did know. I saw that tweet thread too. If that's legitimate, then I saw the exact same thing. Did you guys see the photo of the entire Live field together? No. So there's a photo that Liv tweeted out that was like the class of 20, 23,
Starting point is 00:17:09 kicking off the year or something along those lines. And it had everyone in the photo, like a class photo. And it had them by team. So four guys in a row. And it was very interesting to look at who wasn't wearing the exact uniform. because in almost every team like three guys or so had the exact uniform on but one guy usually the biggest guy that has endorsement deals had like close to the uniform on but in their stuff so i'm looking at it right now and the on the bottom right i don't know the team names i don't know any of this stuff but i do know that like matthew wolf and brooks keppka are wearing Nike shirts and then their two teammates are wearing team jerseys looks very weird but same color but same color colorish, right? Yes, same color, white shirt, same sort of look, same shorts, but two guys have Nike
Starting point is 00:17:59 and two guys have Live Team logos. So I laughed at that because clearly those guys are in a position where their Nike deal is, has been retained, is still active enough that they're not giving up that income in order to oblige the live thing, which is interesting, because if that tweet thread is accurate, you know, I don't know when those contractual agreements fully kick in because clearly a handful, if not more guys in that photo are sticking to their original deal. They're not just all going like all my endorsement and apparel deals and whatever are out the window. The bigger names are wearing their own version of stuff as close to the team outfit as they could get. I mean, Cam Smith's not very close.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Cam Smith still looks like a tour player. He's got them all. They're all wearing light pink. He's wearing dark, dark, like pink or red. It's not even close. He doesn't even look like he's on that team. So it was weird. Like that part of it was a little bit weird.
Starting point is 00:19:04 So the point in bringing that up is I don't know when that kicks in or if it does kick in fully. But I would guess yes. Like I think I'm rooting for yes. I think it would be hilarious if guys show up in their team uniforms from Live golf and are just nowhere near their like team mage, but they're wearing crushers outfits or whatever the fuck they're wearing. I think that would be very funny. And I think they're going to.
Starting point is 00:19:30 The team that has Bubba and Thomas Peters and Harold Varner, not one of them, not one of those guys is wearing a live hat. They're all wearing Ping, Calloway, Nike, and Jordan. That whole team, not one person's wearing anything live. Actually, I don't even know if they're wearing anything on their shirts either. It's just a team that's wearing black shirts.
Starting point is 00:19:50 It reminds me of every year the NFL coaches do like a team photo essentially where it's all 30 NFL coaches. And, you know, Andy Reid is always a star wearing like a Hawaiian t-shirt or whatever. These are, yeah, this picture, it also looks like the photographer decided we're going to make all these guys look in the sun as they take this picture. It's really, you know, they could have done a better job. We did do that to John Rom, unfortunately. So the other question would become, like, if they're, if they're rocking their lives team stuff at the masters, are they all going to coordinate and wear the same stuff on the same days? Or are they just randomly like, like when I play a Thursday round of the Dadbod Classic, I might wear Daddod Classic gear from like three years ago. You know, it's all we're just kind of like we're we're we're reping the league, but we're not reping our team in unison.
Starting point is 00:20:45 That'll be fucking interesting. That'd be funny if like every time they cut to a certain group and that group has a live guy in it. And that live guy is in like the same Crusher's uniform that his Crusher's teammate is in. That would be a very funny. And they should wear something outrageous just to stick out. They should all wear like neon yellow everything. It's the guy. It's these areas where I don't think live like dots their eyes and crosses their teas.
Starting point is 00:21:11 Like I don't think they have a plan. As we talk about it right now, I don't think they know. Like they're not. They haven't sent out. email being like these guys have to wear this on this day they these guys got to wear this on this day like i just think it's kind of going to be a free for all and it's going to be a shit show how about dj uh how about dustin johnson is just not even wearing anything he's not wearing a live logo or he's naked he's just wearing a white polo it's so good not even really a golf shirt is it
Starting point is 00:21:37 it's not even a golf shirt it's like a it's like a cut off henley it's like going to d like a nice dinner shirt i mean he's just he's like he said no to everything he said no to His advertisers, he said no to live. He's just standing there and just like a white short sleeve Henley. Does he still have his tailor made hat on in that? Yeah, he does. I will say, I notice he's still rocking the tailor made hat. I notice he's got like the stealth or stealth two out there when I saw him tee off.
Starting point is 00:22:03 So good for him. Still being the tailor made athlete, the face of the new tour. Phil is fully live. He's fully in the hat, the shirt. Like he was like, I'm wearing, I'm the guy. So I'm wearing, I'm all live. all day. So he's at least still into it. See, still all live all day, but also with the Phil Jumpman logo.
Starting point is 00:22:24 And last year, he was rock a bat all over the place. It would appear from this picture. He's got the live team hat, live team shirt. He's wearing like some sort of, what do you call those things? Like, uh, what's on, what's on his collar? I can't really tell. But he seems to be fully lived out. I don't see his logo anywhere. Did you know that 80% of people are not drinking enough water to stay fully hydrated? The answer to that is BioLite. Now look, try a lot of different drinks over the years, different drinks to try to essentially fulfill what we're talking about, which is you get dehydrated, you go out drinking,
Starting point is 00:23:06 you're hungover, maybe you're working out too hard, whatever's going on. We get dehydrated quite often and it stinks when you're dehydrated, man. You can't do anything. You feel terrible. Bio light is the best answer. That next day you feel like you're in SpongeBob with the suds. Like the next day after drinking, if you, and like you go to the bathroom and your urine's all dark yellow and you're like, my body's literally telling me that I am dying. Like my body needs water.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Have you ever been so dehydrated that when you're laying down, you drink the water the next day? You can actually hear and feel it go down your body. You can feel it go down and like it's almost like it's going to the soil and hitting all the little roots. And you can feel the different roots in your body reaching for it. They're all, I want some. I want some. Yes, you can feel that. So let's not get to that point where you have to do that.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Let's just stay hydrated. Let's make sure that we are completely above and past that point of needing to like crawl to get your biolite and your water. We've had plenty of these shows, especially the Tuesday show, which we record on Monday where we come on here and we're like, boys, I had a bender last weekend. It's no secret that that's what we like to do when we get a few days off. We just like to go out with our friends, maybe have a couple too many drinks. I cannot tell you how effective biolite has been in that. To the point of my buddies come out here and visit in Arizona, they come stay at my apartment, and they text me a week before being like, you better have biolite there because we're going to need it.
Starting point is 00:24:32 It's got six and a half times the electrolytes than other sports drinks. Can you imagine drinking six sugar-filled sports drinks before you teed off? You'd be a problem the entire day. Obviously, you'd feel horrible. That's no good. Get 10% off your first case of biolite's newest flavor. punch right now. If you visit drinkbiolite.com and use the promo code classic.
Starting point is 00:24:54 Obviously, they love being a part of the Barstall Classic. Talk about the Barstall Classic a lot on this show. It's coming up. About to fire that puppy backup. Go to drinkbiolite.com. Use the code classic. And you're going to get 10% off your first case of BioLite's newest flavor punch right now. Another fun fact about Phil and logos.
Starting point is 00:25:21 And I imagine this is still on there. unless maybe this is the first year that it's not. But Phil, when he first came out on tour, was at the time that Greyhawk Golf Club had just pretty much opened up. And so if people notice, Greyhawk Golf Club has been on Phil's bag forever. What happened was they made a deal with Phil. I believe it was 10 grand a year for like the first three years of his deal. Keep in mind, Phil was a big name, but he wasn't Phil Mickelson yet.
Starting point is 00:25:44 He was kind of, you know, how it isn't people go out on tour that go from amateur to the PGA tour. Anything could happen. And they made a deal. I think it was 10 grand a year for three years. And he didn't end of that three years. Phil was obviously a megastar at that point. He had won a good amount. And he was kind of becoming Phil Mickelson.
Starting point is 00:26:01 And Greyhawk said to him at that time, like, hey, man, thank you so much for doing that deal with us for the first three years. Obviously, we're not going to be able to forge you going forward. And Phil's response was, you guys supported me when I was technically nobody. So I'll honor the same deal for the rest of my career. So to this day, Greyhawk Golf Club still is allowed to and has the same deal where they pay him the same amount. They paid him in like 1992 or whatever the hell it was. And you'll notice Greyhawk Golf Club and the logo is still on Phil's back.
Starting point is 00:26:28 So they love him up at Greyhawk because he's done very like loyal stuff like that. That's a great Phil story. You know, you don't hear too many of those these days. That's a great Phil story. Now, people kind of clutch, clutch on to their good Phil stories these days. They don't really toss him out there. He's made some choices, you know, along the line. He has made some choices.
Starting point is 00:26:48 I'm curious to see, obviously, where they go with. with the logos. And I hope that when they go to the majors, when they go to, especially Augusta, that they come out with all their gear. I think it would be fantastic. Okay.
Starting point is 00:27:01 Moving on. Connor and Scotland says, he said, it feels like rumors of Brooks Kepka regretting his move to live, have been running a little bit rampant. It got me thinking, giving all the cards, the way the cards have fallen and live players,
Starting point is 00:27:16 favor to allow them to return. If, sorry, if cards fall in the right way. way this is weird worded very weird and you just start it allowed because my brain feels like scrambled eggs right now and we pay attention go again essentially if live players were all of sudden allowed the option to return to the pGA tour but they had to give back the money do you think any would do it at this point given the way things have gone for the last year well we had said so the money part's interesting but
Starting point is 00:27:45 we had said a couple months ago like oh i was saying i think j monahan should put one spot out there one PJ tour spot be like all right guys all you live guys you're i mean you're suspended indefinitely right now but i am putting one spot out there and one guy can come back whoever wants it can have it first come first serve and we'll let you back you can play in all the events will act like it never happened would anybody do that now the money thing obviously makes a little bit more interesting but do you think anybody would take that it's a very interesting question unfortunately can't just toss away like the money part being interested like is the part that's like the only thing yeah like if it wasn't the money they'd all come back so every single
Starting point is 00:28:26 one of them so i mean i will what i do i think one guy would foil to like the anxiety of like being hated probably just because like one guy would be like i don't like this i don't like the way people think about me i'd say 99.9% of the guys would not come back are we are the money are you including the money part in that yeah that's like what it is yeah that's what live is is the money you can't not include that. Right. But I guess like do you think do you think I guess that means that we all are in agreement that there's a good
Starting point is 00:28:58 amount of chatter among not it doesn't have to be all live guys, but at least some live players that are like, man, it's just like I'm glad I took the money. I'm glad. But like overall this is just not as sweet is like 100%. It all knew that. Right. Who thinks that's cool?
Starting point is 00:29:16 Like none of those guys think it's cooler than what they're. were originally doing. There's no way. Their dream was to be PGA tour players. That's why they became PGA tour players. Now they got offered just more money to go to another league. There's no way they're like, this is sweet. There was no one at any of these events. No one's watching them.
Starting point is 00:29:33 It's like, they're going to be invested in like, I'm going to help make this sweet, right? Like they could be like, it's a cool new idea and like, let's do it. Let's try to like grow something new and be a part of it. Keep picturing like Dustin Johnson's face of him like at the Netflix doctor and like I just don't care about anything. Like you just want money.
Starting point is 00:29:48 No, there's, yeah, like who would, it's, it's tough. It would seem like the majority were probably like, like when you give somebody that much money up front, like how invested really are they in growing it? That's why you would give someone like a piece of it as opposed to dropping off briefcases full of $200 million. Being like you can, if this thing grows, you are going to make X amount of dollars, front loading it and being like, here's $100 million. I think that it tends to lead to less motivation. to actually grow the thing that you're involved in. I do believe there's an element of the captains of the teams have an ownership stake in that team.
Starting point is 00:30:30 So like. So prize money? Phil Mickelson being the captain of his team. I think if it were to grow like a, you know, which is their model that they've referenced a lot, like Formula One becomes a team like their equity in the, in that type of revenue and that event.
Starting point is 00:30:48 like value that team has grows exponentially. So my point in that is like in theory they would then have this incentive and this sort of, you know, fire lit under them being like, yeah, let's turn this into something really cool. Like I'm excited about this. Like I think it's, I don't think any of them. I think it's hard to say for me to believe that every one of them went in being like, yep, this is going to suck, but I'm taking the money. Let's just do it.
Starting point is 00:31:18 I think, right? Like you get talked into it. I think you get talked into it no matter what. Yeah. And when you get like, when you're on the jet and the private jet with the party and the thing, you're like, okay,
Starting point is 00:31:27 we're part of something cool. We're doing it. And then when you're filing the lawsuits and then you see the comments from Roy that you take personally and you get into it, you start to be like, yeah, I'm on this side. This side's cool. That side's not.
Starting point is 00:31:38 Like I think you start to believe that. Maybe. I wonder what how the person, what the percentage break is. Um, because I would imagine the majority were like, I'm going to take this money. And also, like, the league isn't cool.
Starting point is 00:31:52 It's not a cool league. That's like I would love to see Brooks Kepka back on part of my take, like cool guy Brooks and really have to answer questions about how cool he thinks his tour is right now. Like, I mean, would he be able to say that with a straight face? Like, dude, I think this shit's sick. Like, we're changing the world. Like, no chance, bro. There's no chance Brooks Kepka would be like cool cocky Brooks about the live tour. He'd like have to be talking through his teeth being like, I love it.
Starting point is 00:32:17 It's amazing. I love band or electric. It's, I could see at the beginning at the very, at the very beginning where it's all, disruption is a word that I don't want to hear anymore, but it's a word that live throws around a ton. At the beginning where it's like,
Starting point is 00:32:31 I know. They're like, fuck the PJ tour. We're going to change golf. This is going to be great. I just got a bunch of money in my account. We're actually, guys are jumping ship.
Starting point is 00:32:40 This thing is happening and we're a part of it. And it's going to be awesome. I think as time goes on and it doesn't catch on. It gets a point to on the CW. It's not as big as everyone wants it to be. I think you lose steam fast. And then it becomes, I just got all this money now. Maybe this league isn't going to change golf forever.
Starting point is 00:32:57 So I'm not going to invest my time in trying to do that. I just have this money. That's it. I think it's starting to evolve more that way for more guys too. I think that time cycle is about right, in my mind, or at least what I think probably happen, which is I do think there's that hype. I do think you start to drink the Kool-Aid.
Starting point is 00:33:16 I think when people are recruiting you, right? You get a little bit hyped up about it. And you and your own brain subconsciously, like start to justify it because you're going to take it for the money. And you're like, yeah, yeah, I'm getting paid all this money. And it's going to be different. We're going to do the shotgun. And they're going to take us out in the first London event in like the London cabs. And it's going to be sweet.
Starting point is 00:33:37 This is great. And now that they're a year into it, I think that there's probably way more guys that are now kind of like, we did it. I don't regret it. But like, well, that looks a lot more fun. or at least like what I grew up trying to aspire to be a part of is like what they're doing and this is kind of like whatever at this point yeah i agree uh garrett from Nebraska doesn't matter what ball you use if you're say a 10 handicap or worse handicap is the ball and any way holds you back from being better his point is whatever bullshit balls found balls refurbish balls if you play balls that are all different with spin and feel etc with a very inconsistent and bad swing, at least get one thing consistent.
Starting point is 00:34:20 And I think, you know, this is the reason I brought this one is because I think there's something everybody's thought of because most people that are weekend golfers, you know, stink at golf for the most part or are 10-hating ever worse. That's just statistically true. And you think a lot, like, I don't need to buy these $50, $40, whatever it is, dozen fancy golf balls. I stink. Like, just give me a round golf ball that I could just whack and it's not going to make a difference.
Starting point is 00:34:46 I will say when we go to the kingdom and all that, I believe Trotty said the most important equipment decision you'll make today is which golf ball you use, no matter what your handicap is. So I think the answer is yes. I think it definitely matters what golf ball you use. I think it matters. I don't know enough to, like,
Starting point is 00:35:06 go through all the details of why. I don't know if you took a 12 handicap and you had them play like a simulation, basically or if you had them play a million rounds with a shitty like cheap ball that they just write distance and giant letters on it or you had them play with like a TP5 or TP5x which is obviously taramate's top ball how many strokes better would they be with the TP5 I don't know the answer to that but I feel like they would definitely be better yeah I think there's a threshold that you have to get over to for it to make a difference like as like if you give my I couple of my like big rob.
Starting point is 00:35:47 My buddy's like not changing between a TP5 X and TP5. He's just he's scooping balls out of the lake on on on, on, on, on, on, on, like, he's just trying to get anything in the air because the guy hits the ball sideways. But when we were at the fucking, when we were at. No, but I'm not saying between TB5 and TB5 X. I'm talking like TB5 or like the worst ball in the world. I think, yeah, I don't.
Starting point is 00:36:10 I mean, I think he needs to get to the level where you can hit the ball straight to like start spending money. I mean, we have to remember like these people like people like people. have to buy balls. It's a tough decision. If you can't hit the ball in the air, do not go out and buy a fucking the best ball in the world. There's just no reason for it. Like learn how to hit the golf ball before you do it.
Starting point is 00:36:26 You do that in any sport. You get better equipment as you get better. That's just a fact. You don't have to jump to the best ball. I don't think it will. Are you really getting his spin rate up if he can't make contact with the golf ball? Well, I don't think a 12 handicap can't make contact with the golf. I'm not talking about 12.
Starting point is 00:36:40 So the way I started this was saying like there's a threshold you have to get over. Like what is that number? Maybe it's a 12. maybe it's a 10, but I do know that once you get to a point where you are making differences, like you're actually making good contact, you can see trajectory changes based off of like if you have a stiff shaft, if you have a regular shaft, if you have whatever sort of lie angle and all this stuff, if you can start seeing differences with that, I think the ball is for sure one of the more important changes. I mean, we did an hour's worth of swinging at the kingdom
Starting point is 00:37:10 in my number one change of all the numbers with swing ball speed. ball trajectory, spin rate and all that was all the ball. We changed like the club a million times. And the only massive difference that we saw was going from a 5x to a 5. It was crazy. So yeah, my, my guess would be like all of the equipment junkies and golf junkies would say the opposite. They would say no matter what your skill level that like playing a better ball will make your game better. I think the threshold thing is definitely true.
Starting point is 00:37:43 It's definitely true. I think we're like missing the common like, yeah. the common man way of thinking about it, where it's like, I mean, are you trying to push people to go by the most expensive golf? I'm not missing that at all. I'm saying, like,
Starting point is 00:37:53 I just, like, the whole question isn't like based on, like, money and is it worth it to spend the money? It's just like, does it matter. I think it does.
Starting point is 00:38:02 Well, what, well, what's Rob's handicap, you think? 30? Right. So that,
Starting point is 00:38:06 that's the threshold you're talking about. Which is like most golfers. Like, they can barely get the ball off the tea. Like, I mean, how many people are breaking 100? Isn't it like a ridiculous number?
Starting point is 00:38:15 ridiculous. But I think if you took, my whole point is like, I think if you took big Rob and you had him play again in like a simulation, a million rounds with the best ball and a million rounds with the worst ball, I think his score would be better with the best ball. It's, I, it's certainly not. I think there's a level. There's a level. I guess between 10 and 20 handicap, I think is probably the level. But I guess on over a large enough sample size, there's going to be some things that a ball probably helps with Rob, but it's going to be less evident than with the 10. to 20. Is there an argument that like the better ball would spin even more and like the ball would be even a worse spot with how horrifically he's making contact with the golf ball? Big Rob's taking a lot of shots here. Wouldn't the argument mean like it's actually hurting against them? I don't know enough about it, but I don't. Well, we knew enough about it when you said it was definitely going to make them better.
Starting point is 00:39:04 Well, I'm saying I think the equipment company people would argue that. That's what I'm saying. Is that like I think that they're there like I think if he yeah. Because the TP5x was spinning. much for me. I wasn't hitting the ball right. He's like, you're out of bounds with this ball. You need the five. It's like spinning way too much. Your spins out of control. So now it's like a few times that by a million where I'm slicing it can barely make contact. What is the argument that the ball it's spinning even more would be worse than him just hitting like a rock that just is like a knuckle
Starting point is 00:39:34 ball that just stays somewhat straight. Maybe. Yeah. Maybe that would be right. I don't think so, but maybe. I mean, it could be. And then and then in that case, like, the bad golfers would be like there's no reason for me to ever buy like I think we're talking like I'm talking bad golfers there's a threshold like I think you have to hit the golf ball correctly I really do I think that with all clubs I mean a 30 handicaps not going to the kingdom and getting fit like there's just no reason there's no difference we talk about the all the time like for us we're just at that threshold where like swing one is even similar to swing 10 how do we even know how consistent we're hitting that golf ball what is the difference between the 790 and 770 if I'm hitting the ball left I'm hitting the ball right I'm hitting the ball down and I'm hitting the ball down and I'm hitting the ball down and I'm hitting the ball down. I'm hitting the ball up. I mean, I watched that video of Tiger Woods making contact at Riviera. Did you see that zoom in one that they just put out the other day? Yeah. And like, that's how you can tell what the fuck is happening between swing one, swing 10.
Starting point is 00:40:27 If you change a golf ball for him, you're going to see changes. You're going to see a number. I think I'm the threshold. I think I'm right on the threshold. Yeah, I think Trent's right there. I think I'm there. Trent could take 10 swings and no disrespect to Trent. I mean, we love Trent, but like five of them could just be chunks and he's going
Starting point is 00:40:40 to be like, oh, yeah, you need a new golf ball. Like what do you just hit all grass? Like what are you mean? Like what are you talking about? Right. I think it's right there. You've got to have some level of competency. And it might be 50% of the time where you hit it in the right direction where I think it might matter. I'd like to ask Trotty if a really, really high performance golf ball would be bad at a certain level for like the most horrific golfers in the world because it is too advanced. But I guess like his answer would just be like you get the highest performing like non spinny one, right?
Starting point is 00:41:10 Like which is pretty much what you did. You know, it's like yeah, no, you're not you're still saying like. the least spinny of the best balls is going to be way better than like just the shittiest ball. That I think is right. That could be right. I'd love to get like a non-biased, right? Because if we just got our tailor-made folks on here, they're going to be like, you should buy the most expensive ball the whole time.
Starting point is 00:41:29 I don't think so though because like the tour response is like, uh, is an affordable ball. And I used that all year last year with the stripe on it. Like, and they push the shit out of that thing over the TV five for a long period of time last year because it's an affordable golf ball that does all the things. that I mean they they were comparing it to like isn't like sometimes a tour response or like everything that's in it is like last year's competition's like best ball like like they're
Starting point is 00:41:56 basically comparing it like it's still a top of the line ball but they just price it a different point because it's not the brand brand new technology or whatever so I mean I don't know I'd like to get a true answer out of them but I mean it's not like people are not buying golf balls it is funny to like debate and we just don't really know that much about it we don't almost nothing. Pretty much sums up our entire show all the time. All right. We're going to get these guys in here in a second.
Starting point is 00:42:20 So Bush, if you just want to make sure they have that link and they could just join whenever. Yeah, they got the link. So bring them in when they're here. Okay. I'm going to throw this out there while we wait for them to come in. James Webb Telescope updates.
Starting point is 00:42:36 Wow. Okay. So the latest that I got was web telescope just found massive objects that shouldn't exist in deep space. Didn't see that. I saw that we basically saw the oldest galaxies that just make no sense to the Big Bang theory.
Starting point is 00:42:57 They're way too close to the origination of the Big Bang for them to be as big as they are. They'd have to have been growing for way more hundreds of millions of years than what we anticipated. I think that's the same thing about. I think that's the same thing. thing. Okay. Maybe just an object. It's just a basically that they saw like four galaxies that are like way too close to the origination of this big thing and they're like how could it possibly be that
Starting point is 00:43:23 expansive? Like in their data analytics, they're essentially saying it would take whatever the numbers may be, 100 billion years to get to that point. So how could you ever possibly do that? The golf capital of the world is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, plays host to more than 3 million rounds per year and you should be part of that number. A lot of chit chat on this very show about buddies golf trips going out with your pals or your gals or a mix of both, maybe a couple's trip. There's nowhere better to do it than Myrtle Beach because they're the golf capital of the world.
Starting point is 00:44:03 They got a little bit of something for everybody from True Blue, Caledonia. We played TBC Myrtle when we were out there. We played the Grandaddy, which is where we originally opened up, which was a tough track. Myrtle Beach, I think of all the places I've been. Dude, we went to the, what's the baseball team again? Do you remember what the baseball team's called there? It's the Chicago Cubs affiliate. They are the Myrtle Beach.
Starting point is 00:44:25 Is it the Pelicans? No. It's the Pelicans. The Pelicans. The Merdle Beach Pelicans. Dude, you can go to a Pelicans game. You can go to any different kind of restaurant that you would like to go to. We saw a bunch of different go-kart tracks, many golf courses.
Starting point is 00:44:40 It's got a little bit of everything for everybody. And like we said, they got over three million rounds per year. Two of America's top 100 courses. You can player located in Myrtle Beach with on-site lodging options. We woke up every day looking at the Atlantic Ocean at the beach. We came back and had a cocktail after golf. You watched the sunset. It's just a fantastic place to be.
Starting point is 00:45:01 So do yourself a favor. Visit CaledoniaGolf Vacations.com to book your tea times. Plan to stay and play package and get more information about two of America's top. 100 golf courses. That is CaledoniaGolf Vacations.com. All right. So we're about to be joined by Josh Isner and Brennan Mahoney. They won the Barstool Classic last year.
Starting point is 00:45:29 It's custom, I think, for us to have the Barstall Classic Champions on. I know we had Rocco and Anthony on who won the first year. Can't remember COVID and all that next year, a couple of years. I can't remember exactly if we had those guys on or not. But anyways, we like to try to have the Barstow Classic champions on, talk about it. And then obviously with the Dad by Classic this week, the Barstall Classic starting next week. And the whole stuff with Dave and all of that last week or a couple weeks ago, it just makes a lot of sense to have our boy Josh Isner on and Brent Mahoney.
Starting point is 00:45:58 So they're coming on. It's definitely not lost on us that it's pretty outrageous. We get to go do a Pebble Beach golf trip that most people can't do. Yeah. But we're also a golf podcast. So it's like if we're we do a golf podcast about what goes on in our lives and we're about to go to fucking Pebble Beach for four days, three days and play. some of the best courses in the world in a very fun buddies golf trip competitive environment we got
Starting point is 00:46:21 we have to talk about it yeah we're not going to act like it's a normal thing i think that would be the most pretentious douchebag thing that we could possibly do is if we like don't talk about it and go to pebble as if that's like a normal thing we have to like dissect every moment this year you know right like every every moment that we're about to like experience we have to talk about it our fans our listeners, our viewers, they, they, like, they go on this ride with us. The fact that Pizza Boy and Riggs and fucking Trent are going to Pebble Beach to play in like a three-day fucking tournament at Pebble Beach, Spyglass, Spanish Bay, all with Josh Isner, who's this insane like barstool character that just hung out with Dave Portna for a week in Scottsdale and
Starting point is 00:47:04 knows John Rom and all these guys. Yeah, it's a, we definitely want that it just like let you guys know that we don't we know that it's an insane trip and we're about to talk about it and hopefully everyone enjoys like the intricacies of like putting together a massive guys trip and like all the things that go into it and the right crew and the wrong crew and all that shit so yeah there's a lot of like inside joke names that you guys won't know but aside from that I think it's all really interesting stuff of like how this guy came up with this cool tournament and how he's kind of intertwined in the barsal world. And I think a lot of people either do, I mean,
Starting point is 00:47:40 we're in year seven of this. So it's like people that have been listening to show for a long time have probably gotten into the point of understanding a lot of the, we referenced Josh a lot, one of our best buddies. He's probably the most generous dude in the world. He's a crazy, successful guy.
Starting point is 00:47:54 He loves golf and is obsessed. He loves barstool. There's some very funny tidbits in here about him and Dave, because he's a giant Dave Portnoy fan and he got to spend pretty much a whole week with him finally after like being a big fan. his and knowing us for years and years, but not really getting to meet Dave or spending any time with them. So there's very funny stuff about that in there.
Starting point is 00:48:13 And I think people with a with a buddies golf trip for most people that are listening to show their fans, that's like the highlight of their year. That's what they talk about all year. That's what their group text is about. That's what the planning goes into people's get into, you know, you get into that, those moments occasionally where somebody starts sending a picture and everybody just sends pictures and videos. You get all hyped up.
Starting point is 00:48:35 And this happens to be. ours and it's coming up this week and we're jacked up and there's people on everybody's golf buddies trip that are the planner there's people that are the guys that go a little too aggressively there's people that go over the top trying to get in other people's kitchens there's all kinds of shit that everybody has in every group buddies golf trip that we've gotten ours as well so like frankie said there's some names and stuff that are coming up that you might not recognize but i think the general gist is very funny and very relatable uh even if it is happens to be at pebble beach uh and And obviously, if it's something that's big that's going on in our lives, we're going to talk about it.
Starting point is 00:49:10 So it's cool to have Josh and Brendan on. They won the Barstall Classic. It's cool to have a friend like Josh who puts all this together and does the whole thing. I think it's cool for people to hear a lot of what goes into it, how the trip of all, things that have gone wrong, right, and pretty much get an idea of what we're going to be doing for the next four days, which is one of our most fun vacation. It kind of stretches long weekends for the entire year. So those guys are coming up. Big thanks to Josh and Brendan joining. And obviously, a congrats to them winning the tournament.
Starting point is 00:49:39 I know we mostly joke around and bust each other's balls, and I love to give Joss more shit than anybody. But winning this tournament that has 3,000 people that play in it is pretty bad ass and doing it on live stream in front of thousands and thousands of people, hundreds of people that were actually in physical presence in attendance at the event, playing those final two playoff holes. It's very impressive to hit those golf shots and pull it off. So congrats to those guys and talking about all that.
Starting point is 00:50:06 I think is going to be pretty interesting for most people. So without further ado, here's Josh and Brett. Hey, Josh. So, boys. How we doing? Good. Jeff, Josh. Yeah, booking the flight situation was not the best moment for.
Starting point is 00:50:25 Outrageous. We just talked to our guy, Justin Mancini. He goes, is Josh Isner coming for my job? I said, yes. Absolutely. He could do it all. Do you guys get that all squared away? Yeah, I think we're going to, I think we got it all squared away.
Starting point is 00:50:38 I'm pretty sure we got it all squared away. Yeah. Yeah, we got it. We got it. We just got to, yeah, we just got to, we got to make it. I think it's like a 150 p.m. flight, but we'll get there. Oh, yeah. That'll be easy.
Starting point is 00:50:50 That'll be easy. What's up, boys? Look at the trophy. I got a trophy too. That's the trophy and the hat. A bunch of trophies. Is that the dad pod? And the hat.
Starting point is 00:51:02 I love it. That's nice. We're getting ready to kick off the Barstville Classic. next week. And when we when we kick it off, you guys will be the, you guys will be the defending champs. Yeah. It's good. It's good. I got the, I got the shipping label. So I'm going to make sure it gets there in time for you guys. As Lisa been hounding you about getting the trophy back to us? Yeah, she's called me a couple times. I love that. What's like, Jizz, actually the amazing, one of the amazing stories is that the John Robbins,
Starting point is 00:51:38 interview that we did sort of came from you being known as one of the Barstool classic champions from last year. Wild story. Yeah. So it was after we after we won, it was a crazy week where like pro golfers were like messaging me and coming up to me being like congrats on the win, which is just like a what a world thing when like Max or John Rom was telling you like, oh, good win. But John and I worked out at the same gym. We do radically different things at that gym when we get there. But John was, John was asking a little bit about you guys. And ultimately, it all worked out where he got to, where he was on the podcast, great episode. He was an awesome interview, maybe my favorite four play episode of all time. So it worked out
Starting point is 00:52:26 great. He did, he did ask me what I do for my cabs. That might have been the highlight. Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah. Is that a common thing in gyms to like see a guy's nice feature and be like, you get those yeah and my answer is like it's just they support a lot of inertia so it's just they're just they're strong it's like it's like it's something that you like you like you walk over there you're like what is that i might get that tonight it's the same thing at the gym i guess yeah totally totally is that like johnny drama didn't he like uh in outrage see see a guy at like a party and was like how'd you get those cats yeah yeah he has to bet it goes with those implants that's right that's right that's so good. So you guys know the deal. The deal is you get a two-year exemption into the championship
Starting point is 00:53:12 with one condition and that condition is you have to play in one qualifier and you just can't finish DFL. We're going to cry. We're on pressure. What do we got? TPC of Boston this year. I think Wally World isn't on the, isn't on the schedule. So in like mid-August, we got TPC of Boston. Mahoney's probably played TBC Boston a decent amount. No? surprisingly I've been there for the event a couple times but I haven't played it yet really well oh boys I'll tell you that is the home course of none other than big sexy wow wow we're gonna need some local knowledge from them you're gonna get some intel out there what's what's the is there anything we need to know about your lock situation is there an update
Starting point is 00:54:02 on the lock situation going out to the Spanish Bay place we're going to to be flying up there tonight and I'll show you the new lock the reassembled lock. Yeah, wait. That was going to be my main question was like, am I allowed even like in that vicinity anymore? Have I been banned from your place? I mean, it's a good question. I haven't thought about it previously. My instinct is you'll be let in. We're just going to have to keep an eye on you. And we're like, we've already got to keep an eye on the pirate because he's, you know, he's aloof. and that occupies most of my attention to make sure that he's not going to set the place on fire. So we're going to be multitasking.
Starting point is 00:54:40 But I think both of you guys, it was one thing you did do to redeem yourself, Frankie, was leaving a bunch of Borelli's gear in the landing there. That was nice of you. And I still have that stuff there. That's one of one stuff. You can't buy that online. I thought for sure that you'd like that stuff. I loved it. I loved it.
Starting point is 00:54:58 So that was good. So, yeah, we're willing to look past the lock situation. Another big shout out to Frankie is his handicap is like half of what it was at the last DBC, which, which, you know, we won't be getting any sandbagger complaints at all. I wish we would have hit this dad about classic as I was making my transition into better golf because I was a problem in matches when like my handicap hadn't really registered like what I was truly playing at. And I was playing incredible golf. I was shooting like 75s and getting eight strokes. It was unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:55:32 I went like 9 and 0 during the summer. around a stretch and now I can't win a match of my life depended on it. But I'm feeling good going into this thing. I love here and that. We got we got we got we got talk a little bit. I mean, we talk about the Daubon classic all the time now that we have the originator on the show. Like, how did this all start? What was your inspiration for this? And like, how do you pull it off? Because people hear about it and they're like, it can't make sense to get all those tea times and everyone together. It's nuts. It's like the most exclusive, craziest place on earth. And we get this whole crew there. Talk a little bit about like where this all came from. Yeah, yeah. So we, it started with,
Starting point is 00:56:03 What do we have the first year? Maybe 12 guys rigs. And these were... I think we did. These were a combination of friends and family from largely outside of Arizona. So I grew up in Boston and a lot of my friends back there that I get to see in the summertime, we put a little trip together for the first year. Things were going decently well at Axon.
Starting point is 00:56:24 And it was kind of I had agreed to stay at the company for a long period of time. And so as a celebration, I decided to take all my buddies out. out to Pebble. And then it just kind of grew from there. The first year was crazy intense competition. It was probably the most competitive year. It was like a six-six tie that rigs team won in a tiebreaker. And the tiebreaker, I mean, was your choice by the way. Isn't it like a chip off or like a put-off? It was a put-off amongst people who have never played golf before. So the guy representing our team literally had O.J. Simpson leather gloves on. That's what he chose to putt him. And so he got smashed. And Delanian, who you guys know, who happens to be in my
Starting point is 00:57:09 office right now sitting here, he was the, he was the winner for Team Ricks. He just dusted, he dusted Frank. Killed him. And the, well, the amazing part, too, was that we had set this whole thing up before of like, hey, we're going to have this putting contest after dinner one night at that putting green at Pebble that's right in the middle of everything. That's kind of like behind the first tea by all the shops and outside of the tap room. And at the time, too, like, we were down, what, six to one or five to one going into the last day. So we really didn't think the put off for half a point or whatever it was. The tie break was going to matter.
Starting point is 00:57:44 And then all of a sudden, we came back. Cousin Nick had an insane up and down, insane shot from like the 10th hole, 10th tea of of spyglass to like the 18th green and gets up it down for everybody. We ended up tying six to six. think, and then we won because of that tiebreaker the night before. And then the next year, we had to go to a tiebreaker again. Yep. And we decided to do a chip off, which you guys won.
Starting point is 00:58:09 So we've had some, the first couple of years were pretty wild. And then, I mean, the whole thing's evolved a lot too because I would say Josh has had one of the great, like, social glowups of all time where I think like when I first met you, you're just kind of like a dweeb who didn't really know that many people outside of your family and friends. And now all of a sudden, last four years, three years, gotten into a way. Whisper Rock. He's like best friends of Larry Fitzgerald and now Dave Portnoy and you just know everybody now because you're a very generous, nice guy. So all of a sudden the trip evolved into
Starting point is 00:58:40 like a fucking crazy mix of people from just like your uncle, your uncle and a couple friends and me to like a bunch of pretty pretty sweet people. So it's kind of a crazy evolution of the whole thing. And we, we've had some ups and downs in terms of the attendance. Last year was, it got a little out of hand. The guys who came from the Rock last year, last year, all great friends of mine. I love those guys. But the pace got a little fast for the DBC.
Starting point is 00:59:12 I like the pace car at the DBC to be like a moped. And overnight it turned into like a Red Bull Formula One car. And it just got too fast. And so we had to pull it back a little bit. And now I think we got the right. We got the right speed for this group. Colt Nose was going pedal to the medal. We can just say it.
Starting point is 00:59:32 Colt Nose came in like a fireball. I mean, he's a partier. He's a good guy to be around. But man, that he really pushed the pace. Him and Connor in the same room were a lot. I mean, I love both those guys a lot.
Starting point is 00:59:45 I really, really do love those guys. And I'm actually going to be sad to not be around them. But they were fast. They were fast and loose. They were real fast. When Colt got up at the dinner the second night, and he was like,
Starting point is 00:59:57 excuse me, everyone, I have an announcement to make. And I was like, oh, this is nice of Colt. He's going to give, like, a speech about how happy he is to be here. And instead he gets up and he goes, I have an announcement to make. I'm going to the bar and leaving dinner. Well, okay. And so that was kind of a low point of the tournament. But yeah, I mean, yeah, Colt's low point for him probably was,
Starting point is 01:00:22 frankly, you make him out of his team and him three. What, did he three putt or miss a front? He three putt and, yeah, we pushed the match and I did cartwheels off the 18th green and he just couldn't. I mean, he missed a five foot putt that he never misses ever, just straight. I don't think he's ever seen him three putt. No, no, I think he said that's his first one in like forever and he just couldn't believe it happened. He said the nerves got to him like, you kidding me? Yeah, you guys were like FaceTiming Justin Thomas at one point in the match, right?
Starting point is 01:00:53 That was insane. Yeah. At one point, he just goes, like, I'm playing with the guy. It looks just like you. And then you hear Justin Thomas go, you playing with Frankie? And then he shows the camera. I'm like, what's up? He's like, yeah, we're in dog fight.
Starting point is 01:01:04 Yeah. So we got 17 pops, though, but whatever. Yeah, this year, way fewer pops. Real vodka inside of Trulies, that's what we're here to talk about because people have wanted it, demanded it, asked for it for years. It's here. And it is fantastic. Up at Greyhawk, they've got these. They've got the new Trulies made with premium vodka with.
Starting point is 01:01:29 with a crisp, clean, and refreshing taste. They've got them on the beverage carts that go around. And I can't tell you the rave reviews that the cart girls up there at Greyhawk have been giving me about the Trulies because they know we brought them in for the first time at the Barstow Classic Championship last year. The Trulies with the vodka had never seen them before. Obviously, we had a good amount left over. So those made their way around the beverage cart. So they know and they associate us with the Trulie Vodka's rave reviews, Frankie, on the new Trulie Vodkas. It was, yeah, Trulies always been great.
Starting point is 01:01:59 always been like the OG when it comes to the Seltzer. The fact that like other brands came out and they had all these like different marketing tools and like the real vodka or whatever and there was always these comparisons. The fact that truly now just has that and they're just like taking over the golf seltzer market now. I mean, you go to any golf course. They have truly hard seltzers. The fact that they have the real vodka in them is such a game changer. I enjoy that better. I mean, I like regular Trulies. I just like these better. These just taste better to me. I'm a huge fan. the fact that this is a real thing that's happening. It was always like a rumor.
Starting point is 01:02:31 You felt like they couldn't do it for some reason because they just didn't do it forever. And now that they're doing it, it's like, smartest decision ever. Just taste better. They use no artificial flavors or sweeteners. They get fewer calories. All 12-ounce cans have under 110 calories,
Starting point is 01:02:44 which means plenty of refreshing flavor that won't weigh you down. Low sugar, every truly vodka seltzer contains only two grams of sugar. Find truly vodka seltzer near you at truly hard seltzer. Again, go find the truely vodka. Truly vodka seltzers, you're going to love them. They're near you. You can find them at truly hard seltzer.com. Trent, I feel like it might be our secret watch.
Starting point is 01:03:10 Well, Josh, I know I can't make this year. He's in at a 20 index. I know I can't make this year because of the bait. I know I can't make the dad bod this year because of the bait. No way. But hopefully I'll get off the wait list for next year. You're in for next year. And that's going to be bad news for Team Riggs when when Brendan comes because he can play.
Starting point is 01:03:32 We doing a draft or you just get to put them on your team? I'm selecting them for my team. Brandon putts it pretty much as good as Colt. I mean, him and Colt are probably the two best putters I've ever seen. But yeah, Trent, I mean, Trent's coming back. That's an underrated storyline this year. We didn't have our guy last year who was Riggs's Cryptonite two years ago. Now he's back and he's ready.
Starting point is 01:03:55 One of my favorite moments in DBC. Guy Burd-17 at Bell. was 18 of 18 of pebble beautiful day still water cove riggs and trent are playing each other and trent wins but there was something about him like in the handshake he took off his beanie hat instead of like a regular hat and just the video of trent being out of bingy and shaking riggs's hand it's a it's a respect josh it's a respect thing we had a hell of a battle at pebble beach and yeah i somehow i mean i was getting a million pops but i beat riggs I was like, well, I'm going to be a gentleman and remove my winter stocking cap when I shake this guy's hand.
Starting point is 01:04:35 Yeah, no, I feel good about my game going into it. My handicap is outrageous, but that's honestly just what it is. So we'll see what we get. But I'm feeling good about my game going into it. I'm very excited to go. I feel great about your game, too. I think, you know, like hitting every fairway out there is kind of the name of the game. If you're playing from the faraway with strokes, you're in great shape.
Starting point is 01:04:55 So I think Trent's a big one to get back this year. We got a few new guys on my team. The guy I'm worried about on Team Riggs is Kyle, Riggs's brother. I've only played with him three times all on the same trip in Bandon Dunes, but all I remember is him hitting 50-yard hooks in the middle of every fairway, in the middle of every green. He had a hole in one on I think the 10th hole of Pacific Dunes, and he just says every putt breaks toward the Pacific.
Starting point is 01:05:25 And he just had this vibe going where it's like, just breaks toward the Pacific and then he'd make like a 20 footer and unfortunately double beach also happens to be on the Pacific and so I think we're in a little bit of trouble with Kyle he's a huge golf trip guy he's like he lives for this he's a family man he's one of those guys that's everybody knows a lot of them or are one of them where he's got two kids a lovely wife he goes and works really hard at his job he comes home he cooks dinner he takes the kids to practice spends time with like so when you get him out for a golf trip he vibes the whole time he's happy to be there he gets one or two things in his mind like everything like somebody a cad you'll say to him on
Starting point is 01:06:04 the first hole like i have most things break towards the pacific and he'll just even at dinner he'll just be like yeah watch out everything breaks towards the pacific so he'll just kind of get hooked up to stuff for the whole trip he's very excited um you you are you nervous like what are you nervous about going into this trip um we're going to have to play really well. The thing I don't like about the matchup this year is there's very defined teams for Team Riggs where the guys play like really well together. Like Frankie and Marty is is a tough team. That's a good one. Engine Lurch is maybe the best vibes of all the teams. Lou and Cousin Nick. And then Riggs and Kyle. I mean like it feels like you guys have very, it's like the European
Starting point is 01:06:49 Ryder Cup team where the guys just like playing together. And so. Plus we have Todd Martin, the Silver Fox and we've got the pirate who both those guys vibe with everybody. So we've got like you're saying, it is European Rider Cup a little bit where we got guys that have like years of pairing experience going into the whole thing. So so yeah, you know, this is a big year, man, where it's two to two all time. I do think I like talking about like the evolution of the trip, but things just the pace getting too fast because I think everybody goes through that with all their buddies, right? Like a lot of the inquiries we get are like, man, I really want.
Starting point is 01:07:24 want to start a trip you guys talk about going to the dad about or going out with frankie with his long island buddies or whatever and it's like we want to start a trip like that i think they all pretty much go through that evolution like you start small with your core group of pals or gals or whatever and then you start to add a couple more people and then there's that year or two where you're like nope we over did it we lost control the tournament we just lost control and then you got to figure out how to rein it in and ultimately you get to like your kind of your proper number or whatever the hell that is 12, 28, whatever. And then, like, you see those groups at Bannon or at Pavell that are, like, 65 years old now.
Starting point is 01:08:02 They're like, yeah, we've been doing this trip for 40 years and they kind of figure it out. So I think that's just kind of a very funny evolution of golf trips that pretty much everybody goes through. Yeah, we flew a little too close to the sun. I think eight's the magic number. Yeah, we just, I think we had 28 last year. And that was just, and it wasn't even fun. It was like the amount of logistics. and just moving parts for that many people too.
Starting point is 01:08:28 We got it back under control. And the group is, I think almost all the guys are kind of more of the original group that know each other well. It'll be a good vibe this year. I'm excited. So the only thing I'm really nervous about is we're going to have to really grind. The one guy that I feel like might be a wild card for us is Jason Goldman, just because he's got some like mental torture chamber type stuff planned for rigs.
Starting point is 01:08:54 I mean, he's got, he's got a few tricks up his sleeve this week. But I think they're going to be, are going to level the playing field a little bit. Every time I've seen, Goldman brought up somebody's credit report one year on the team. Yep. He, I think every time I've seen him this year so far, oh yeah, at like the Phoenix, at the waste, at the waste management, he, uh, multiple times come up and would just mean mug me when I saw him and like refuses to talk to me. And I was like, golly, what's up, dude? Like, go grab a good time. he's like fuck you riggs he's i don't think he's like engaging in social normal conversation
Starting point is 01:09:32 with me until after the dad bot's over i think so he's every time i see him it's like one of the first things he brings up is new ideas to get in your head and and frankly the way he solidified his lifetime spot at the dad bought is yeah our buddy ben he on the first t he asked ben what happened with his nordstrom's credit card in 1997 he had one of the credit report on him and had noticed this late payment and then he brought it up right before the match like that's the kind of like all in spirit that I'm looking for on team isner here so he's got a few of those this year for rigs one of them is just i mean i i can't wait till he unveils the first one it'll probably be Thursday night so uh that'll be good josh we heard from riggs on his in his viewpoint on this how
Starting point is 01:10:18 did your round with dave portnoy and his mom go when you guys all played in arizona um So as, as you guys know, you know, I'm a big day pornoid guy. I got a picture. Pirate dog. You have a painting of him in your office. Okay. His face. You have a painting of another man's face.
Starting point is 01:10:40 How long have you been following Barstall? Pretty much forever. Probably 2014 or 15. So relatively late amongst the Boston, the Boston Stoolies. But Dave's my guy. And that was maybe the best week. of my life like playing golf with him and his mom his mom is the sweetest lady alive expert on the rules of golf Dave on the range it wasn't looking good but then got out on the course and actually
Starting point is 01:11:06 hit it fairly well and it was nice relaxing afternoon and then Saturday we were at the waste management and that was that was fun as well I joined the MHOC which I'm very proud of you messed it up at first so didn't you there was a discrepancy on the rules And we got that cleared up. Seems pretty straightforward. I mean, in retrospect, it might have been.
Starting point is 01:11:32 There was, I mean, we're just going to call it a discrepancy, but it worked out, okay, I'm in. And I did jinx Dave on a bet, but then he,
Starting point is 01:11:41 that was wild. He, he, I fucked up. I mean, let's just be honest. That was a big, fuck up.
Starting point is 01:11:48 And we needed them to make one of them. I'm like, all, 81%. I didn't realize it was a one in, one. And so it was only, he missed the front end. Dave was not happy about that. Dave just stared at Josh for like three straight hours. We're in a stare off for a little while. And, but he honestly, though, that's the real day portno experience. Like in terms of like you want to join the MHOC, you're taking. We went to Dave Matthews. You got the waste management. But if you want to feel the
Starting point is 01:12:14 heat, you mess with one of his bets. And now you're really in the day portno. He goes, oh, 81% from the free throw. You're good. Miss. I was in the worst. I thought he had two shots. I thought they were in the double bonus to my defense. So 81% feels pretty good when you got two of them. Missed the first one. And that was that. Having said that, Dave gave me three picks later that day. And I took them all as a parlay. And then Dave texted me and said, Missouri is going to lose by 50. And after the first bet already won. And so I scrambled to my phone to cash out without even looking at the score. what Dave failed to update me on is Missouri came back and was on the verge of covering. So I cashed out of this parlay that was about to pay an uncomfortably large amount of money based on Dave's text.
Starting point is 01:13:04 Cashed out. And then I looked at the score. I go, what are you talking about? And he just never updated me that we're back on track and I was running around at the open so I wasn't falling. So I cash out. And then he seemed to admit we were even after that because that, that took me bad. I mean, we would have won that parlay easily. So we're even on that.
Starting point is 01:13:25 But yeah, Dave on the golf course was great. Dave, the whole week was great. Awesome guy. I know he gives you guys a hard time at times. I can see how that can be stressful after the betting situation we were in on Saturday. But overall, A plus, he's my guy. Still want to join Team Portnoy at some point. Jealous of thanking you for being a member.
Starting point is 01:13:48 And his mom is best, best of all time. Yeah, I mean, you saw him in a great week. He's been, I mean, Dave's always been amazing since we've all known him. It's just he's definitely more of like, he's more like proud now as opposed to like grinding and like chopping off heads. I think he's in that like proud stage of like, like, he was even like proud of like how he got him into that area. He like couldn't believe it. He's so thankful with everything. He's he really did have a great time with you and he talks so highly about you for the whole entire week. I mean, he's like, I don't know who the hell this guy is. He knows everybody. It's no matter what we need, he snaps his fingers and we're in. He loved the pirate dog tattoo. I think that was the thing that clinched it. And I didn't even tell him about it. Riggs actually broke the news that I had one. Yeah, it's four holes in. I was like, you realize you're playing with a psychopath, right?
Starting point is 01:14:32 Like, you can't. This guy. But not really, though, because like a guy with a pie, like you would think a guy with a pirate dog tattoo, as soon as you saw him of the golf course would have ripped his shirt off and been like, look at this thing. But you played it cool. Yeah, I didn't want to freak him out.
Starting point is 01:14:47 And then Dave was very funny. After that, he's like, Oh, like, he was like, you should be thanking for, you should be thanking me for coming to the whisper rock then. I was like, yeah. It's a big moment to be there. So it did. So that was. He went from being appreciative to being like, you're welcome, like the whole day.
Starting point is 01:15:10 Are you looking for meals that are ready to eat delivered to your door and actually, actually help you feel your best? Sakara is the answer. And it's so much more than just a meal delivery program. Sakara is a nutrient program. Oh, nutrition program. which is tied very much to nutrients, nutrition program. That's like having a nutritionist and a chef all in one.
Starting point is 01:15:32 Their meals are packed with plant, protein, and expertly designed to support your goals from weight management to boosted energy. They're also delicious. Sikara delivers science-backed plant-rich nutrition programs and wellness products right to your door. They're ready to eat meals.
Starting point is 01:15:50 They're designed to deliver results from increased performance to boosted energy. This is what we've been eating for a few weeks now. I'm trying to get geared up for this tournament that we're going to, play the best golf that I can, understand that some things might go on to my body, in terms of what I put in there over the next four or five days that we're on this golf trip that you need to be prepared for.
Starting point is 01:16:10 You need to be as healthy as you can be. I obviously don't know how to cook. I couldn't do it to save my life. You don't want to have to eat out every meal. Nobody wants that either. Takar is the best answer for that. It's just you're never going to eat this healthy and this efficiently without Sikar.
Starting point is 01:16:25 It's that simple. I have it. I use it. It's clean eating design for results. I'm telling you right now, I went on the website. I typed in my address. You see what kind of meals you want. You want breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Starting point is 01:16:37 How long is your program going to be? Is it going to be two days, three days, five days? Are you going to be on a weekly subscription? Are you going to be on a one-time program? Are you adding the green smoothies, the signature green smoothies, which come three times a week? Are you going to have the probiotic coconut kefir? I didn't have that. I didn't know what that was.
Starting point is 01:16:54 Keefer? I don't know what that is. Half the time you read these things and you're like, oh, it just sounds so healthy. Like instead of ordering a bacon, egg and cheese, I have this stuff in my refrigerator already packed, ready to go. And the instructions are so easy. It's like you take this thing out. You microwave this for three minutes and then you take it or you put it and you put it
Starting point is 01:17:15 and you sear it in like a pan and then you put this sauce on it and then you're done. You feel like a chef. Like you legitimately feel like you did something, but they made it so. easy for you. I was like doing it like Chef Emerald. I was saying bam, bam, bam. I was adding all my flavors into it. Of course you. And it was done. And I put it on to a nice plate and I looked like a fucking, I looked like the best chef in town. Sikara is the best. Right now, Sakara is offering our listeners 20% off your first order when you go to sacara.com slash four. Enter code four at checkout. That's Sakara. S-A-R-A-com slash four to get 20% off your first order. You can use the code for as well.
Starting point is 01:17:53 that's saccara.com slash four for 20% off your first order. I'll bring this back to the Barstall classic. Like one of the things that I've realized over the last few weeks of this Dave stuff of the pirate dog tattoo and the classic is the commenters online are really not very nice. And I never really, I really, I never really appreciated that. I always thought it was funny when they were shitting on you guys. But now that they're kind of coming after me a little, it's not, it's not as great. Like I was watching the stream of our playoff in the classic and Brendan, I don't even know if I told you this, but one of the comments goes, golf is the only sport where two guys built like sea turtles can win.
Starting point is 01:18:41 And that was not very nice. I saw, I saw, grinding me for hitting a hybrid on the 18th hole from 220. It's like, dude, I'm 37 years old. I got two kids. suck at golf like who am i trying to impress out here you think i'm going to try to hit like a low cut three iron over the water and use a hybrid like so i'm getting i'm getting heat from a lot of different places online right now i kind of empathize with you guys a little bit yeah we're in the worst i saw a bunch of sandbagger calls oh yeah we can't get brandon yeah i saw a bunch of sandbagged
Starting point is 01:19:21 he's going to stop again right he can't get him on the same page you can win the Barstle classic you can put lights out but you can't get internet for the life of you i mean you just have your you're your your podcasting through a fucking rock right now what's been a pain he's been a he's been a painting for most of the show and but he wants we have to include him he wants to join the conversation and then like he's a little delayed so every time he thinks he's got to talk we're already talking on the next time it's a fucking nightmare brandon but welcome to the show because this is we know we need you to we need to pick it up we need to i'm just on my home right now i'm just on my home Wi-Fi. I don't know what's going on. But basically, Josh was talking about the commenters.
Starting point is 01:20:04 I mean, we were getting a bunch of sandbaggers chirping us. Like, everyone thought we were sandbagging. Little did they know. I was coming in at a plus one. Josh was on the board as, you know, a scratcher or one. Trust me, there was no sandbagging going on. I mean, we were, we were career in it. We had a lot of fun. And we just played good golf. Yeah, like the next day I woke up first text i see is from kiz and it just says sandbagger i was like oh thanks kids that's very nice that you um that is one of the most misunderstood parts about the classic is you stroke off the low guy so we were stroking off a plus four handicap and that's why we got some shots but yeah i was a zero and breton was in it a plus one so there was no sandbagging going on i mean it was yeah it was like
Starting point is 01:20:51 unconscious at some points golf which was which was awesome yeah People never understand either that, like, in order to win a golf tournament that has hundreds and eventually thousands of people in it, you have to play really well. Like better than you normally play, which would mean better probably than your handicaps. Because if you just play average to your handicap, you probably won't beat 3,000 other golfers and win the tournament. That's what people failed to understand about the classic and about a tournament. Now, there has been sandbagging history of the event in which we. We've been able to find as many of we can and try to kick as many people out as we can. But they, people view it for whatever reason or commenters, which again, should hold no credibility.
Starting point is 01:21:36 And that's why I've always given you a pretty scornful look whenever you like bring up a comment or laugh. I'm like, I don't want any of that in my life. Like I don't read any of it. I just leave it alone. Like I don't want that because of all the reasons you're saying. Like people just are wrong about stuff and are just saying shit to say shit. But if they like they, for whatever reason, they think everyone should. should just play perfectly to their handicap.
Starting point is 01:21:58 And then which case, like, everyone would just tie in the event. And that's like, what are you talking about? Like people are going to show up. And people that can bring it in like a more pressure packed environment or a tournament are called like more clutch. And if you're a little bit more clutch and play a little bit better to your ability than the other people under the intense pressure, then you might have a better chance of winning. And that's actually what it takes to be like better than other people and ultimately win the event.
Starting point is 01:22:22 Like it's not that fucking hard to understand. But people are idiots. And if they did any research. whatsoever, like you said, like, you can't really be a sandbagger when you've got a plus one and a zero that won the event. Yeah. And we shot, like, I think we shot very close to our caps. Like, I don't, you know, it wasn't like, it was good team golf.
Starting point is 01:22:42 It was just like a couple of huge moments where I think there was a putt each day from inside of five feet that I missed. And I always putt first because I suck at putting and Brendan's good putter. And so I missed like a four footer bowl. days for birdie and then right after brendan made like a 12 footer after my miss and it was stuff like that that was just going right for us both days and it was it just worked out it was amazing it was a it was a good feeling um crazy yeah hopefully the potter goes cold yeah i was thinking about some of those round or to see i was thinking about some of those rounds really it started to come
Starting point is 01:23:19 downwards i made a bunch of birdies you know i was i think we were making like Just between me, it was like four to six birdies. And then we're very, you know, mixing in a couple doubles there. We were just very fortunate to ding and dong on the right holes. And it was awesome. That's what it takes. That's what it takes. It's the ham and egg.
Starting point is 01:23:44 That's why it's a team event, baby. That's, that's people just don't people, most people get it. That's why people sign up and the thing sells out in three fucking minutes around the country. But yeah, you're exposed a little bit to the commenter world. that's not as pleasant and funny as it is to just look at people being mean to other people and be like, oh, yeah, that's funny, ha-ha. Not when it's coming up to you, baby. Yeah, it's giving me a little new perspective on it, I'd say.
Starting point is 01:24:08 It's still very funny when people rag on you, but I'll approach you with a little more empathy at this point. But yeah, just a wild experience, very, very fun. I mean, the tournament, it kills me to give Riggs a ton of credit, but like the tournament is so well done. And Lisa obviously is the best. And it's just, it's a great week. And it was crazy.
Starting point is 01:24:35 I mean, I still have trouble believing it happened. But I'm glad I got a partner I have. That's for sure. I can't get over the fact that he actually won the whole damn thing either because it's like, you take it. You know, it's fun, but you take it serious enough that like you consider which qualifying event you should really go to because you spend some time obviously out on the Cape. in the summer and you know you think there's there's better golfers or the field might be stronger in Arizona because it's so golf heavy here that like you choose where you're going to play and so fact that all that worked out and then you ended up in the mix and they ended up winning the whole
Starting point is 01:25:10 fucking thing it's very funny that uh you know a lot of people would look at it as a pretty sketchy situation that one of our best buddies and someone who really like takes care of the best golf trip, any human being could possibly go on for pretty much everyone on the show, just won our big. I love how you called me your golf sugar daddy in the video. That was the best quote in that recap video. 87% of Woot members say they feel healthier with WOOP, with everything from personalized recommendations to sleep coaching.
Starting point is 01:25:54 Woop uses data to provide you with the steps you need to take. To maintain positive routines and build healthier habits, it's become incredibly known lately that you're going to be much healthier long term and short term. You're going to feel better. You're going to have better energy. You can be better at your job at your social life. That's spent a time with your family at pickleball or golf or whatever you're into. You're going to be better at if you have consistent sleep habits. You have consistent strain habits.
Starting point is 01:26:22 If you just do things consistently and whoop is what tracks that for you. That's what Justin Thomas is using. that's what Roy McRoy is using. You'll see them have the band on their arm or you'll see them have this sleek 4.0 on their wrist like I do. Get on the whoop train. It is beautiful, isn't it? It is.
Starting point is 01:26:38 It's really nice. I'm in between getting, I broke my band, so I'm waiting for a new one. It's really, you feel like that, you feel like you're not tracking your life when you don't have one on.
Starting point is 01:26:49 Like if you go like two or three days without having one of your loss, like you don't know your sleep schedule. You don't know. And it's like when you're working out, it almost feels like, it almost feels like you're wasting a workout that you're not tracking it. Like I go on the Peloton or I run and I play pickleball and you're like, wait a minute,
Starting point is 01:27:05 I have zero. I have like my all my numbers are going to be at zero now. It should be so high. Yeah, you want credit for it. You get no credit credit. It gives you credit and it makes that. That's like the part about working out.
Starting point is 01:27:19 That's the reason why we do anything. It's the reason why you get like a nicer clothing. It's the reason why you get a nicer car. Like everyone wants like a pat on the back. Everyone wants to be like, that's cool. you're doing a good job at a boy and who gives that to you for living like you had good sleep last night at a boy my resting heart rate's been 55 not terrible i'd like to get that in the 40s at some point but
Starting point is 01:27:39 i probably need to work out a little bit harder uh blood oxygen 94 percent it was a little bit higher yesterday um so anyways you get all these all these fantastic metrics that they're going to help out help you out with um you're still hoping to sleep better exercise more reduce stress just lower your handicap perhaps daily insights from Roop are tailored to help you meet those goals. Go to whoop.com. That is W-H-O-O-O-P.com. Use code 4 to save 10% off your order. That's whoop.com. Code is for 10% off your order. We qualified in Massachusetts, which I tried to qualify in Arizona for three years and just not good enough to qualify in Arizona. There's too many good golfers here.
Starting point is 01:28:25 And we were never even close. It wasn't like we like the last six or seven holes. knew we were out of it just in the Arizona qualifiers. So it went back, the qualifier was at our home course where Brendan and I grew up, Walsston Golf Club. And Brendan, probably the biggest shot of the tournament was Brendan making that three-footer on 18 in the qualifier to get us into finals. Like that was getting dicey there on 18. And then from there, I think we felt like once we got to Arizona, you know, I lived three minutes from the golf course. I had never played there, but, you know, the fact that we're playing and a lot of guys are coming, like half the fields coming from cold weather places, you feel like if you can get it going, you've got an edge,
Starting point is 01:29:12 you can at least be competitive there. And with the 50%, you know, with our low handicaps, we felt like, you know, if we get hot, maybe we can compete. I don't know that we ever thought we could win the thing, but pretty cool that it turned out that way. Well, you got your win out of the way for the year, which is great. We're coming for it. I mean, it does take some of the wind out of the DBC, like Riggs's DBC victory, because, you know, the fact that my trophy is bigger, actually, and you can see it to Brendan's back around there.
Starting point is 01:29:44 I mean, we're going to win the DBC too. It's like, it's, it don't even, you got, it's going to be a clean sweep on trophies for this side. So, no, no, no, no. that thing's coming this way says right there 2022 we are the defending champions josh you know that drives you crazy and look you won an event that barcel sports puts on but it's like you didn't defeat me in the events or you didn't defeat you know we're we are happy to host you and glad that you had a victorious experience but it wasn't like you defeated us you just you know you went out there and had a good showing good for you that's great now we play against each other in the dad bod and it's
Starting point is 01:30:19 all the gloves are coming off i know people are starting to get a little bit spicy already. You get spicy in the email that I think a lot of us are waiting for for a while. And you got to get, you got to get the juice. It's a little bit of, it's a little bit of like MJ finding ways to fucking hate other people on the other side. That's kind of what we got to come up with for the next couple of days, figure out a way to hate you guys. Like the last year was such a shit show for so many reasons. Like it doesn't even feel like I felt like I lost several times last year. Not only in the tournament. We could put a couple more plates on there.
Starting point is 01:30:54 I just remember we saw those birds in the gutter at the end of the tournament. Like they were just standing next to this, to our condo out there, which Frankie locked himself out of, and there were these birds in the gutter, and one of the birds was stuck. And the other birds
Starting point is 01:31:10 all flocked and were like pecking at them, and they finally sprung them loose. And I think at that moment I said, that's what Team Riggs was this year. They were all one team. They helped each other out. Our team was a disaster last year. It just didn't even feel like it was a true team
Starting point is 01:31:26 misner performance. We're back, we're feeling good. One storyline is, I think out of all the rounds ever played, there's only been two, maybe three that were not, that didn't end the day in a tie. So historically the tournament's been very, very competitive every single day. It's true. Last
Starting point is 01:31:42 year being the exception. And so we could compete. We got Trent back. Trent's a huge glue guy on our team too, because you can put it with anybody and he's just a very he's he's he's he's just very steady out there he was a missing link we're we're feeling better this year it's still going to be an uphill battle because the way like those pairings are very comfortable for team rigs but we just got to get out there and declare jihad like right away like let's go day one and get it going and then and then i think if we
Starting point is 01:32:12 could just put a little doubt in their minds i think i think we'll you know bret mccabe isn't following you out there this time frankie you're going to have Frankie's playing better than he's ever played before. Frankie's playing better than he's ever played. I want Frankie and Marty. I want a rematch from last year. That's my hope is that I get him and him and Marty one day, and then the other day I want to play Lurch and Stedge.
Starting point is 01:32:37 And I just want to, I just want to ragged all those guys out there this week. We're looking forward to it. I can't wait. You'll be playing PGA Tour 2K23 and we'll be playing Pebble Beach all day tonight, all night to night and then all day tomorrow, just playing the virtual place that we're going to be playing on fucking Friday, which is crazy to me. But yeah, I can't wait. It's so much fun.
Starting point is 01:32:59 Cannot wait to get out to what I consider the greatest place on earth is Monterey Peninsula. Hard to argue. I'm looking forward to it, boys. It'll be fun. I'm looking forward to seeing you all. Brendan, sorry to miss you this year, buddy, but how's the wife feeling? Baby coming soon here? Yeah, we're final countdown.
Starting point is 01:33:15 Within inside two weeks, March 13th, we're really excited. excited. Hopefully I can get it off the wait list for next year for the dad bod. It sounds amazing. I'm looking forward to it. You got to time that up. You know, you guys start thinking about that. If your dad bod participation and when you're going to, you know, potentially conceive a child, you got to, I think people got to start planning for that. No doubt. I should have planned that a lot better. All right, Jizzy. Um, your man, uh, I appreciate you, appreciate you, joining. Congratulations to both you on you're the fourth ever Barstall Classic champs. This will be the fifth annual, the 2003 Barstool Classic. So we will see you guys at TBC Boston for that. We'll see everyone
Starting point is 01:34:00 at Myrtle Beach on Monday for the kickoff of the event. Frankie and Trent will be there. I think Dan will be as well. And then I'll obviously, yeah, Frankie's singing the national anthem. Did you know that? Jizzy? Wow. Well, you're a musical guy. I see you in Pup Punk. So are you good singer? Dude, it actually went well at, where were we? Oh yeah, Arizona. It went well. It went all right in Arizona. It was my, so when I sing in pop punk, like I have a stage. I have dark lights are on top of the crowd and like I'm really not seeing who's listening to us. And I'm also behind a drum set and there's all this music. I can kind of just let it go. Way different than standing in front of a bunch of sober golfers at 8 a.m. in the morning just staring at you. And there's,
Starting point is 01:34:43 you're singing acapella. Just no music. Horrific. So I felt like my first attempt at it, I kind of like spoke through it. And I'm going to try, I'm going to try different things. I might turn my back to the crowd this time and just kind of let it go. I don't know. We're going to. Yeah, I'm just going to just like turn my back to it and just like rip it. And then like I'm just not going to care if it's embarrassing.
Starting point is 01:35:04 Like that's the thing you have to get over. I feel like, like you have to let it go. No like, you know, no pun with frozen and singing. But like you do have to let it go. Do you make like uncomfortable eye contact with people? I was staring at people. I was staring at Linda Portnoy, Miss Portnoy, as I sang the national anthem, and I was just like, I can't mess this up.
Starting point is 01:35:22 Is it you thinking about the words? Are we going to get a redo of you riding the bike as well? That was a great video. That was a tough moment, too. I mean, I do know how to ride a bike. That bike sucked. But I'm not agreeing to singing it at the Dabod Classic. I can't do that.
Starting point is 01:35:38 There's way too many mean people that'll hold that over my life or hold that over me for the rest of my life. So I can't do that. Garsa classic, I've agreed to. Yeah, the pirate does it. The pirate does it all. He does all the opening ceremony. The opening, uh, opening him, uh, so that'll be good. He said he didn't have time to memorize it this year, though.
Starting point is 01:35:55 So that's okay. Yeah. He's like 50-50. Half the years he memorizes it. Half the years he doesn't. Yeah. He's grinding at work. And so, uh, yeah, he's going to read.
Starting point is 01:36:04 But if it's another Winston Churchill like performance, no one's going to complain. I mean, it was, he's amazing. But no, he's, all right, bro. We'll see you out there. I'm fucking pumped. Yep. It's very excited. Can't wait, boys.
Starting point is 01:36:16 Can't wait. Good to see you guys. I'll see you in a couple days here. All right, fellas. Thanks, Brendan. Thank you, Brendan. Thanks, boys. Appreciate it.
