Oh, Rick!
What's up, my brother?
I've got a buddy who struggles with that shot.
A lot.
His name's Frankie Burrilli.
So the guys actually gave him a nickname of Butterknives because he always knites and across the green.
Broads 100.
Now you've got to break 90.
We appreciate what you guys do for golf.
It's been really cool.
Thank you.
You're making it cool.
we were you going to go.
I was like, hey, Phil, you only fucking $29.99.
And he grabs 100.
He's like, yeah, I won 90,000 of these yesterday.
He goes, take 100 and go, fuck yourself.
What?
What are you that different?
It's ain't a hobby.
Four players are at Barstool Sports.
Brought to you by Chevrolet.
Go to Chevy.com.
Check out the EV family from Chevy.
All right.
We're live.
It's our second podcast of the week.
We're here in L.A.
We're live from the Rappaport Trailer Park here, I would say.
in kind of the slums of Los Angeles, California,
where we're going to get through it.
Joel Damon, I think, is coming on to this show.
So he's staying around this trailer park here.
He's supposed to be coming on.
So we're kind of waiting for him.
We got a lot to talk about some press conferences.
DRAP was out there today.
How was the vibes at the course, Dan?
Fives at the course were great.
I was a limo ride back to the house.
I drove myself back.
Thank you.
How comfortable are you talking about any of this?
It seems like it's sort of out of my hands.
Listen, my parents live in a nice home.
They do.
That's the goal, baby.
I wouldn't call this a home.
This is...
I said compound.
It's a compound.
It's a residence.
I think that's even on the Wi-Fi.
Yeah, it's a nice place.
It's a nice place.
It's a resort is what it is.
I mean, and your family has done a great job of acquiring this home.
This is a fucking...
What a straightforward way to say.
This is a hell of a home, you know?
There's winners and losers in life and you guys have won this house.
is a great fucking house.
The house is,
the house is fantastic.
It's a great out.
My parents are great people.
Yep.
That's the goal, dude.
They're doing that.
You shouldn't even be embarrassed about it.
You should be proud of your parents.
This is an insanely nice house.
Should be proud of your parents that they acquired this home.
This is the goal, right?
I think the question was about,
about the golf course today.
Oh yeah.
How was it out there?
About the press conferences.
Is there a golf course here?
Yeah.
There is a punting here.
The tennis courts is where Joel Damon is being stashed with like a probably four-bedroom
like outhouse.
Okay.
But no, the golf course.
Let's talk about the golf course.
The golf course.
You made it through it.
Okay.
That was good.
That was relatively painless.
It's a good thing.
I think everyone's, I think the focus is on the golf, which is nice.
You know, I think obviously everyone at the press conferences today was asking about the merger and all the news.
I think the guys don't really have any idea what's going on.
I think that's the biggest, the biggest takeaway from this whole thing is like, we did all this work last year.
We went to all these meetings.
We basically reshaped the PG.
tour and then you know these two guys who none of us know just negotiated a deal with the people
that were the sworn enemy so I think there's definitely a lot of a lot of uh red ass about that but I don't
think anyone's I think in a strange way it's kind of freeing to them because their voice doesn't
really matter and they kind of know that now before it was like okay you know we're we're
participating in this we're part of the of building the future now it's like okay unless your name
is jimmy done or ed hurley he like you really don't have that much of a say even if you're
Roy McElroy, you don't, you're in the dark on everything.
Rory, Rory canceled his press conference today because he's got, he doesn't have any answers.
It's nice to know where he stand, even if you're not in great standing.
Yeah.
Like, it's just good to know.
The whole last year and a half, no one really knew who had the power.
And now we know, we thought it was a player tour.
And it's just kind of not.
And, yeah, Rory can now just go out to the range, try to win more majors and be like, you guys figure it out.
Because I'm done being the guy up front being like,
No, we were trying to protect the integrity.
I will say John Rom had some interesting quotes,
but it was kind of what you're saying,
where he's like, nobody really knows.
Nobody knows what's going on.
John Rom, because me and Bush were talking about it earlier,
John Rom, or maybe it was Brendan, I can't remember.
We were talking about the ROM because somebody had just seen the quotes
and I was watching the press conference.
He's like, what were those quotes?
What kind of tone were those quotes said with?
And I was like, honestly, very like reasonable, rational,
sort of accepting tone where he was like, yeah,
I'm asked the question.
I'm going to answer.
The answer was a,
essentially look like yeah there's a big sense of betrayal among a lot of the people on the
door that those that are leading the whole operation went ahead and just did it without anybody knowing
so to dan's point of like nobody really has any answers other than i don't know three people
on earth right now yeah those are the only people that really know anything and they don't even
know everything they kind of pull out this like half finished idea of what they're going to do
there's no real details outside of this is kind of what it's going to look like and then that's
what they're faced with so if those
Those guys don't have the answers, which they didn't have all the answers.
There's no way that John Rom or Rory, who, like you said, skipped his presser, canceled his presser today.
He did have a quote where he said that last week, his press coverage of the Canadian Open,
which is less than 24 hours after the news broke, I think, was the, he said, the least comfortable he's ever felt, which is tough.
And obviously understandable, as we've talked about on the show a lot.
But even like Moracawa today, his answer when he was asked about it, he just.
It's the kids, right?
Wow, this is a great opportunity to talk about my, I think, foundation and the initiatives that we do.
And he went on for like three minutes about what they do with, you know, their hold getting people into golf around L.A. and helping out kids get into golf and youth and the whole deal.
And it was like people aren't even talking about it.
And I think that's a great point that I think they're kind of relieved of like, oh, we don't have to sit up here and feel like my vantage point is instrumental in shaping the opinion, shaping the future of how this relationship with the tour and live and Saudi's.
going to go. They're all just like, doesn't fucking matter at all. I'm just going to play the golf.
Chevrolet. We love Chevy. The EV family. They're just doing everything Chevy's done forever.
The bow tie iconic like a rock coming over the cliff, except now they're all electric. We got the
Silverado EV Barstool's most valuable truck. Frankie filmed a fantastic video. I actually saw a drone shot
of this video and that truck with its lights on coming around the corner through the trees.
The thing is just badass. Yeah. So I mean, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll,
give a little bit more information I did last time.
We did a fixing Frankie episode.
We had Dr. Brett McKay about there.
It's going to be a really good episode.
It's all him last night of the minute.
Getting that guy back involved.
I mean, that's serious.
People just,
golfers love to see what that guy has to say about the game of golf.
We did a really cool thing.
And within that episode,
it gets a little bit advertisement e because we shoot this like amazing commercial.
But it's going to be worth seeing how unbelievable this commercial came out.
I mean, late night, like fog.
You got a Chevrolet Silverado EV coming through a golf course golf cart area over the hills onto a fairway.
Dude, this course is this, this, this truck is absolutely insane.
It goes zero to 16 under 4.5 seconds.
You can't even hear it.
It's very quiet.
It's part of the EV family.
Go to Chevy.com.
Check out.
Learn more.
They got a bunch of other models as well that you can see what's in the EV family.
You can play with the interior, the exterior, all the little gadgets make it as cool as you want.
They got 17 inch diagonal.
infotainment screen.
I almost said center.
That center is good.
And they have the auto, like, you know how like the back of the bed like will come like
they have like an auto one from inside the car.
Super.
The whole entire thing is very automatic.
Head over to Chevy.com to learn more.
That is Chevy.com.
All right, folks, it's the next day and some big news broke in the golf world that we
kind of have to react to.
So we are.
Jay Motahan is essentially not in control of the PG-A tour right now because of a
quote medical situation
I believe that was the terminology
it's something like that yeah
I don't know the exact wording
but he's no longer in control
because of a medical situation
muddy waters because you want to be
like speculative very muddy waters
the only tweet that I wrote I just wrote
I just wrote uh
I'm Dan Rappaport on Twitter
who's not here right now so if you're listening
we're putting this what five minutes into the show
or something like that you've just heard us at his house
and now we're just breaking in with breaking news
which is no longer breaking news to you
but we have to react to it.
Danny tweeted out that,
you know,
if you're making fun of a person who is sick,
you're just an asshole.
But we just don't really know what's going on.
Just very similar to the actual live merger.
We're not given any information.
If we may,
if we could all transport to speculation land,
let's go there,
a place with no rules,
no judgment.
We don't know what's going on,
but let's all go to speculation land.
The speculation would be
that they're laying the groundwork
for him to step down and then you get less criticism because of a medical situation.
Again, we're in speculation land.
Speculation land, I'm also thinking it's the U.S. Open.
The biggest news in golf history just dropped this week.
Jay Monaghan would have had to have answered some of the hardest questions he's ever going to have to answer.
Yeah.
And now he's just in speculation land caught a cold and is not here.
Well, I don't think he would be doing a press conference or anything.
You don't think he would have to speak here?
No, he's not.
They don't do the U.S. Open.
I guess not.
You don't think he'd be at like a major championship
talking about the future of golf?
No.
I think he's like I can't remember last time
the PGA Tour Commissioner gave like a press conference at a major.
When like when's the last time you heard of like
the Saudi's buying the PGA tour?
But that one,
it just wouldn't happen here.
This is like the even that's why I would have gotten worse press for like not like
speaking about it like on the biggest stage.
But there's no like scenario where he would have spoke about it here.
No like they don't like reserve a time for the PGA tour commissioner at the US
Like this is the USGA's event.
This is like the Mike Juan goes out and speaks at the Masters tournament.
Like Fred Ridley goes out and speaks.
Jay Monaghan doesn't speak at the Masters.
Jay Monaghan doesn't speak of the PGA.
Yeah.
I'd have to do some digging to see if he's ever.
He's never once like been on a press conference at the USDA.
The commissioner of the PGA tour.
Like that's not normal.
I'll say that.
Like I'm not saying.
You're not normal times.
Maybe a TV hit.
Maybe a TV hit?
We're in speculative land.
Speculation land or something.
But I, no.
No, to me, like, I think even the way the players are reacting,
when they're asked about it this week, they're like,
no, we're here to talk about the ES Open.
They're not talking about it.
They're not talking about it.
They're like ignoring it to, you know what I'm saying?
Sure.
I think it is incredibly tricky because obviously when someone is having a medical issue,
that's way more serious than anything else that we're talking about.
But it's really hard not to be like, okay, a week ago,
Jay Bonaghan made an announcement that made him one of the least popular people,
in the world right now.
Yeah.
In America right now.
And then a week later, he has a medical issue.
It could be anything.
It could be completely unrelated.
It's obviously stinks for him.
It could be, I mean, it could be just the stress of the situation.
It could be literally anything.
It's, it's almost interesting to me that they even announced it because this isn't a week for the BJ tour.
You know what I'm saying?
Right.
It was like, it was a week where you were probably not going to get much press.
about the PJ tour and now it's going to be a lot of press about the PJs.
Exactly. This is a week when like I kind of said,
they try to make it about the United States open,
about LACC, especially once we get past Monday and Tuesday of the week
where it's like now it's about the course. People are starting to talk about.
Are they going to have that front pin on like 15?
Right.
You know, it's like that's sort of what we're into and that's going to dominate the golf
headlines for the next five days that it almost is like they could have gone
all the way until Monday or Tuesday.
And I don't know that people would have really thought that much about the PGA
tour.
So that makes me think that it's probably just pretty serious and coincidental maybe.
Maybe.
Which obviously stinks.
I did some digging.
And Jay Monaghan at Quail Hollow did a press conference regarding COVID at the PGA championship.
Like a massive like this is what's happening in golf.
Caddies are getting sick.
Players are getting sick.
I, as the leader of the PGA tour, need to have a press conference and speak at the PGA
championship.
and there's a picture right there at PGA Hallow there's Jay at the PJ Championship
2020 well there you go PGA 2020 was not at
what a hollo PGA 2020 was at Harding Park uh...
Calumor Cowell.
Well this was written on July 4th, 2020
Las Vegas Journal. I don't know, it was a picture of them.
I'm just trying to... Well, when was it then?
Was that 2017?
I try to piece that together.
2017 yeah when was the last
at quell hollow
oh he was 2017
when jt won
yeah well they used a picture of him
and they're talking about that he had a conference
so well he was at the pj championship you're seeing this
i can see it now
you're saying
i get what you're saying he's spoken at the pj championship before
you're saying like it was the craziest thing of all time for the
commissioner to speak at the u.s.
open but i just think that that's what everyone
on twitter's saying like he's basically getting out of not speaking
and like the saudis kind of like got to him
of being like just getting
away. Like don't. That's that's speculation land. That's speculation land. I guess to me it wouldn't
be normal for him to speak at a major. So I think that he could have gotten away from it without this is
what I'm saying. That's why I just don't think it's related to that in my opinion. If we're in speculation
land that it's like I think if like I don't think anyone was calling for Jay Monaghan to speak this week.
Whereas like last week I think after the announcement came, people were waiting to hear from like
Rory. People were still waiting to hear from like Tiger. Jay Monaghan in last week was on CNBC.
he did the presser with the like the zoom presser with the Dan Rapids of the world yeah i don't feel like
this week people were like pressing to hear from j monahan that's crazy to me i would have liked to hear
from him you don't think people are pressing to hear from j monahan at the u.s open no i would like to
every step of the way of this thing i would like to hear from him because it doesn't doesn't seem like
like we're that far along on it i would like to get answers every single day from j monahan i would
definitely like to but i just going into this week
I wasn't expecting like a big Jay Monaghan press conference.
I didn't think that was coming at all.
Definitely not getting one now.
No, it seems really unlikely now.
The official terminology that they put out was
Jay Monaghan and for the PJA Tour Policy Board
that he is recuperating from a medical situation.
The board fully supports Jay and appreciates everyone
respecting his privacy.
During Jay's absence, Ron Price,
chief operating officer and Tyler Dennis,
Executive Vice President and President,
PJTor will lead the day-to-day operations
of the PGA Tour with the assistance
of the great team Jay has built,
ensuring seamless continuity.
We will provide further updates as appropriate.
So that's the official terminology.
Who knows?
It might be a little while until we hear from Jaymani.
And I guess just in my mind,
I thought they came out last week.
They basically said we have a pretty like,
detail lacking plan, but we have a plan.
And in a few weeks or in the near future,
we're going to confirm all of those plans.
and then that's what's happening and people are like okay yeah yeah just like the biggest golf
week since the biggest golf news of all times you'd just think that they would have like i don't know
all the players from all around the world are here it is what it's like it wasn't the canadian
open i guess they could have done it there as well i think that that would have i think that they
try really hard too to not step on the other organization's toes and i think that like the pGA
tour tries really hard this one week of the
year to not try to dominate headlines because it's the USGA's week it's a tough they kind of did
it in the other way yeah last week it's tough week but also this week with the medical thing that's why
i'm shocked that they released and again this i'm gonna just step back in the speculation wouldn't they have
released it wouldn't they have not released it if he wasn't expected to like show face at the u.s.
open wouldn't if j monahan's not supposed to be on the premises and we wouldn't even know what
wouldn't we have just never heard of this like it almost seems as though they're saying the reason
why you're not going to hear from him this week is because he's recuperating from an illness.
Wouldn't he just stay home and just be like, yeah, I'm not supposed to be there.
Which makes me think it might be pretty serious.
Right.
That makes it have to put something out because it's pretty serious.
That makes it.
Otherwise, either towards what you're saying, Frankie or it's a dire medical situation.
My opinion is I take it as he was, the world expects him to say something and they're like he can't because he's sick.
The flip side of it, if it's not that, it's a dire medical situation.
Yeah.
So we don't know.
We won't know until we know.
That's right.
Right.
We may never know.
Right.
Because if it was just like something not that serious, we'll just never know.
Yeah, because if it's not that serious, then we go back to what we were saying where why even put it out?
Right.
Because he's not supposed to be there.
Yeah, I just, I, again, in my mind, like these are the, golf's very weird.
There's like four or five.
Five.
Major, you know, entities, organizations that run golf.
And like when they came out with the joint thing during COVID about the new schedule, remember how big that was.
Like, they collaborated and they did that.
And I just think that they really try to make a conscious effort to when it's that other organization's weak.
That's their fucking week.
When it's the Masters Tournament, it's about it.
Bless you, Bush.
When it's about.
I'll ever do that again.
Who, by the way, Bush is dressed like he's getting ready to tee it up with a rider cup right out.
I feel like that's pretty.
That's kind of his uniform.
I see him in that all the time.
The maga shirt.
I see.
Please, dude, he's got.
I see him.
When we do breaking 90s, I see, I just, that's just the guy that I picture in that red polo.
Which I love.
It brings me comfort to see that.
He's got blue pants, a red polo, a white undershirt, and then a blue hat with white.
It's incredible.
Full red, white, and blue.
I love it.
It's incredible.
I just feel like the Masters Week, it's about Fred Ridley is in charge.
He's the one that speaks at the presser.
And it's about the Masters tournament.
And then at the Players' Championship, it's obviously the PGA tour.
And last year at the Players' Championship, Jay Monaghan did like his victory lap in the whole deal.
It feels like 100 years ago.
PGA championship, Seth Waz up there, and the PGA, and they make it about their 20 PGA pros
and the Michael Block situation.
And then you have obviously USGA and U.S. Open and then you have R&A in the Open Championship.
And that's like their week.
And the tour gets the other 40-something weeks of the year.
And that's kind of their thing.
And like, so I just didn't, you're right.
It is the biggest news that literally led like every fucking news organization outside
of sports last week.
I just think that like they released it last week so that they could get it out of the way
last week not interfere with the US Open
and to me I wasn't expecting my
to hand to like you probably maybe a TV
appearance or something to give an update I don't know
but they fucked it all up
with this medical announcement
and I'm not crazy to me that's me and speculationally
and saying that because it's one of the other
from a medical situation
recuperating means he's like recovering yeah
yeah recuperating is like a
it's like he's beyond the medical situation
no he's still very much in it
I think recovering is you're beyond
recuperating is
The definition of recuperating.
I think like if you were just punched in the face and you're like on the ground bleeding,
you're kind of recuperating at that point.
Recurate is to recover from illness.
Yeah, I guess to me they have a bit of a different definition.
Recovering, you feel like you're out of the woods.
Recuperating.
I agree.
You're just, you're just, you're kind of in it.
She has been recuperating from a shoulder wound.
Yeah.
They will seek to recuperate the returns that go with investment.
recuperate does mean to like kind of gather back regain yeah we gather back
recuperate your loss simulate these are the types of speculations that have to go
run wild when they put out a vague um it is latin origin latin re is back capere is take
okay i'll also say like the you you can you can still hold a negative feeling about
what Monaghan has done over the last year and especially last week,
while also wishing him a speedy recovery.
Yeah, that's what we said.
We opened this little breaking news segment with it's Muddy Waters.
You don't know what to say.
No.
I do think that the majority of social media, which is where we live,
and this is like the only thing we really talk about,
and that's like our point of view is very speculative.
Yeah.
Because it's just coincidence.
And that sucks for him if it actually is.
and I do hope that he feels better
and I do hope that he recuperates.
It's just wild timing.
I'm trying to picture myself in their like room,
their war room at the Monaghan's
and he's like,
you got to be fucking kidding me
that this happened to me this fucking week.
Because there is,
there is like,
they're all going to think I'm fucking in some dungeon
in Saudi Arabia or something.
That's right.
Because there is a part of this where if you,
if you look at it from every angle,
if you look at it from a pure,
truthful standpoint,
that's the conversation that they're having.
He's like,
whether he's having a mental breakdown
or a real metal,
broke my ankle this week.
Whatever the, yeah, whatever it is.
If it's full, if it's all truth, he's got to be at home being like, fuck.
ankle break, he'd be fine.
No, this, this feels like,
mental or like, you know, whatever.
We're not going to fucking sit there and speculate the actual.
We're done with speculation.
It's weird to like be like, we need to know exactly what the health concerns are.
True.
Right?
It's like, if it's an ankle, you're, you're supposed to be there.
If it's your heart, like, rest up.
It's like, you know what I mean?
That's weird.
to like for people on Twitter to be like,
what is it?
But that's Twitter.
But we have to know.
You know what I mean?
When you're like the leader of the PJ tour,
you're like the president.
Like we have to know information that like most people don't know about people.
I was going to say it reminds me a lot of presidents when it feels a little bit weird
and insensitive.
We're like,
yes.
Hey,
this old fuck a guy.
How how close is he?
One of the biggest like Twitter like news information is like Biden's like mental health like
like, uh, like when the doctor.
or like checks him out.
People are like,
what is he actually?
What's,
what's his,
what's his,
you know what I mean?
That's fucking nuts.
Think about it this way.
Think about if,
if none of this,
if none of that news had broke last week with the PIF and PGATor and this,
and then this news comes out.
People be like,
that's strange timing.
You know what I mean?
Wait.
Oh,
you're saying if it just happened like,
like if they were,
we didn't know that this merger was happening.
Right.
They were just announcing the medical status of Jay Monaghan.
Oh,
I think no one even bats and either.
Just like,
well,
wishes. Right. I hope you feel better. It's just that's why the timing feels so strange.
Maybe people would be speculating like, oh, the live stuff's getting to him. He can't even come to
the U.S. Open. He can't even, whatever. People would be like, dude, Tim Finchram had it so good.
Oh my God, dude. Monahan had COVID. Crazy. He had to deal with. It's crazy. And then he had to deal
with live in a merger that might have significantly affected his health. Very similar to presidents.
It's like, why do you even want this job? Right. Why does Monahan want to be the fucking? Well,
Tim Fincham's job, but I would not take Jay Monaghan's job.
Yeah, Monaghan could like lead any fucking company.
The guy's a super impressive, like, CEO.
Right.
He doesn't need to be dealing with this bullshit.
He's never going to come out on top.
He already came out on the bottom.
He just, he folded.
Yeah.
He lost.
He's a loser.
There's winners and losers.
He lost this.
So, and he knows it.
Now he's recuperating.
Monaghan yearly pay,
8.3 million.
With the remainder of the cash being a long,
term incentive pay and also future
retired. What did he do prior? I know
we're going long. We have Joel Damon on the show too.
Oh yeah, we should get to Joel. We got to get to Joel because
it's like one of the best shows we've done. But what does he do
before this? Let's go through Monaghan's. And then we can get
out of here. Let's go through Jay Monaghan's.
So I believe he was
his gig at the PJ tour before
was like
something at the
Was he like an Adam Silver type just waiting in the wings?
I don't think he was waiting in the wings. I don't think he was waiting in the
winged forever, but I think he was for a little bit.
Like he had a couple different gigs, but I don't think he's like a lifer.
He's not like a PGA tour life forever.
Right.
How come I can't 8.3 million, man.
That's more than I would have thought.
I don't know what number I would have thought, but that's higher than I thought.
Prior to all this shit, you would have thought that that's way too much.
But now when you see like the stuff he's dealing with, he's dealing with like, I mean,
Congress and the Senate are talking about his deals now.
I mean, that guy needs to make a lot of money.
Fed starts sniffing around.
Yeah.
Monaghan worked at IMG worldwide, where he played an integral role in the development of the Deutsche Bank Championship at TBC Boston and Norton and served as the tournament's first director at age 32.
In 2003, Monaghan co-created golf fights cancer, a charity that has raised nearly $5 million for cancer research.
Later, he worked for sales for the Fenway Sports Group in Boston.
In June 2008, Monaghan came to the PGA Tour as the executive director of the Players Championship.
Shout to our guy, Lee Smith.
from Liberty National.
He just got that role.
Wow.
He just went from the GM at Liberty National
to, I believe, that exact same role
or something very similar.
And was named the Tours Senior Vice President
for Business Development in 2010.
He was promoted to executive vice president
and chief marketing officer in March 2013,
overseeing business development,
corporate marketing and partnerships,
title sponsor relations,
retail licensing, and media sales.
So he's pretty much a bit PJTor guy for a long.
Yeah, and he's impressive.
Those are impressive words.
Yeah.
I mean, I definitely thought he, like, ran a company prior
with the type of stuff he has to deal with now.
He comes off, he's very polished.
He's polished, yeah.
He's also very just like reserved, quiet.
He talks as though, like, he's been prepped.
Agreed.
Agreed.
He always feels very prepped.
He doesn't come out very spontaneous.
No.
It is interesting looking at the commissioners of major sports
and how they sort of take on the personality of who runs.
I don't know how Gary Bettman's made it all these years.
I mean shout to the golden nights
for winning the Stanley Cup last night
Is that it's a situation
Just like the NFL where the owners pick
And they kind of vote on a commissioner
But like I don't know
I'd say one of the biggest negatives
At the NHL is like you've had
One of the best sports to watch on TV
And at the actual event
It's not really progressing
You got the best players in the fucking league
Making $10 million dollars
Yeah
Where like a seventh man on the NBA roster
Is making maybe 20
It hasn't really transcended
It hasn't transcended
He hasn't done anything
Like he hasn't he
I don't know
The expect
The expansion's obviously worked.
He's doing great with that.
Fucking Vegas just won a Stanley Cup.
Seattle was sick.
They almost won a Stanley Cup this year.
Vegas has had a chance every single year.
But also the other owners hate the way the expansion worked because they were able to just...
Do you think a big part of his hockey guys are just too normal?
No, man.
I think it's fucking...
You just, you watch the NBA.
It's on every single night.
Every single night it's on ESPN.
There was just like deals that just weren't done for the NHL.
It just wasn't successful.
But I just think like...
Like this new deal with ESPN, you barely even see hockey.
Right.
I think that's more of a function of the other way around.
I just think there's not enough eyeballs,
and that's on the commissioner and owners.
I think as an outsider,
like it's sobering,
but is there like a ceiling to NHL fandom?
I don't think so.
I think this all just goes back to like good deals,
good like business deals
and getting the amount of eyeballs that it needs to have.
I just don't think that like they've gotten to the south enough.
I don't think that they've become a national,
brand. You turn on T&T every single night there's NBA game.
I don't know where to find hockey games. It's just, it's constantly
ESPN just runs it. It's just the way that's been. It wasn't always like that the NBA.
You can like read back into the NBA. It wasn't like the fucking cream of the crop on TV.
Like those commissioners, Stern and Silver just did an amazing job.
But it is. It's also incredible how the NFL and the MLB flipped.
Yeah. Like MLB major league baseball used to be the sport. It was America's pastime.
the NFL is infinitely bigger.
And you think back to what commissioners did
and what the league did,
and they came up with like fantasy football
and the red zone and all these things.
Like NFL Sunday ticket,
like that's legitimately just getting eyeballs
and people caring about it.
It has nothing to do with the personalities of the players.
You don't know the offense alignment.
Obviously they have superstars in the NFL,
but that's because of the product.
That's because of what the commissioners have done.
Do you think an NHL red zone would play?
Yeah.
You have to get like the NHL center ice package
and like you watch a game at like 11 o'clock at night.
on the East Coast.
Just like now just the schedules don't really work.
There's a lot of Canadian teams, like West Coast teams.
It just doesn't work.
If they just jumped into like a power play here and then like they pulled the goalie over here, like that would be action.
The only time you can really see that's on the NHL network.
Yeah.
They'll do like live like live look ins.
And it's like I don't know.
It's just something hasn't gone right in the NHL.
It just hasn't taken off.
What a speculative little segment this was.
Speculation land.
Connor McDavid should be making $50 million a year.
comparable to the
yeah he doesn't even know he is
that's a perfect point
Jack Eichael just wanted to stand the cup
Alex Bush he used to be on the fucking savers
didn't win shit didn't even win a playoff game
and then the sobres didn't even play a playoff game
the sobres hated him
would even like let him get surgery
yep
sent him to another team
they're like oh your neck hurts
you're not getting surgery
they sent him to the desert
and they just win the club
they're not getting surgery here you got to play
he's like my neck hurts
Thanks.
