For Beth Page Black, the 2019 PGA Championship, 101st, is that correct?
101st PG-Champaign Championship.
I'm going to say yes, but I have no idea how to...
I think I saw that all over some merchandise.
Look, we are having just a gigantic three days.
We have a lot to talk about.
Sir Nick Faldo is on this very show.
We did about 45 minutes with him at Borelli's.
It was something.
We drank scotch.
He told stories.
Some of us drank scotch.
He did impressions.
There's all kinds of good stuff in there.
So people, that's coming up in a few minutes.
You're going to love the Sir Nick Faldo interview.
And again, we're going to talk all about how that came about doing it at Borelli's.
The last three days that we've had here on site.
Big thanks to Supreme Golf.
Our presenting sponsor for the entire year.
This should be inspiring you, ladies and gentlemen, to go play golf.
You should be excited.
It's golf season.
It's golf season.
There's major...
SCN.
Sism.
There's major championships happening all the time, which just gets you jacked up to play
some golf.
Got to grab a golf club.
You watch someone like this, like in these pros.
We're sitting on the range right now.
Looking back, I see Bryson Dishambeau still just fucking just hacking away, baby.
He's just playing golf.
We are recording this with time.
It's 643 on Wednesday.
Watching Bryson right now on this range makes me just...
want to go on the Supreme Golf app and just go play right now.
Like I want to play now.
I want to get to a golf course at 8 o'clock and just swing one shot.
SupremeGoff.com slash barstool.
They're giving away $1,000 to 10 different winners starting now,
running all the way to August 1st.
They're the best T-time app.
That's what you need to know.
Tea Time app.
That's what you need to know.
All right, big week.
Let's start with this.
Let's start with YouTube.
We have a YouTube page.
Forward Play Golf.
We're doing a whole thing now.
where we're just going to put all of our videos on there, longer videos, shorter videos.
We've got this like 40-minute long video of us playing Bethpage Black two weeks ago.
As many of the shots as we could possibly film a ton of the shots are in there.
What everybody shot, the match, how it went, big puts to win how holes, to have holes.
Guys struggling in the weeds, guys hitting amazing shots, slow-mo shots, all kinds of good stuff.
It's in this video.
Before play golf, go check it out.
Another video that we put out yesterday.
parking lot entrances video at the PGA Championship.
We watched a bunch of people come in from Kisner,
Kegan Bradley, Duff Daddy,
who was just the most lost human beings.
I think he stole a show.
I had a couple people tweeted.
I mean, I went back and watched it again.
I was like, yeah, he did.
He didn't do anything, but that was kind of his thing.
He just walked around aimlessly.
He was amazing in that video.
That was the most dup daddy entrance to a golf tournament
that I could have ever imagined.
We've been kind of busy today on Wednesday.
We've been bouncing around around this golf course.
I haven't seen him today,
and I don't know if anyone else.
also seen him, but he could still be lurking around that parking lot right now as we speak,
and he hasn't left since yesterday.
And we did that.
Carrying his own bag.
There's no denying that that's a possibility.
He might still be walking around carrying his golf bag, his clothes bag, his backpack and like two pairs of
shoes in his hands and going, how fuck do I get into this clubhouse?
He was holding a non-pro bag, too.
It was like a little stand-up bag.
It was a stand-bag.
Stand bag.
That's video.
We saw everybody arrive.
Kiz kind of was one of the stars of the show as well.
well, Bryson made an appearance. It was kind of bodying Frankie. Go check that video out. It's kind of
killing it. And then, speaking of Bryson, oh, here we go. We just had, um, on the range behind us,
I mean, one of the more iconic moments in the history of four play. I think that what just,
what just transpired on that range right behind us at Bethpage Black, the Wednesday before a
major championship is one of the craziest things that anyone in the media has ever gotten
to do with a golfer.
It has to be one of the craziest things.
I mean, I'm just going to get right to it.
Bryson just gave me a chipping lesson
at the PGA championship at the Bethpage Black
for 15 straight minutes on the pro range.
Yeah, so late in the day, we came to the driving range
just to kind of see who was out there,
and we spotted our guy, Bryson, who we've been running into
all week, and it's been great to see him,
and we're just kind of standing behind him.
He's grinding, he's got these headphones in.
He's very focused.
He's working on everything.
He's working on his driver.
And, you know, we stood out there for 10, 15 minutes,
didn't get his attention or anything.
So we're, he gives us a time of day.
Didn't even look at us.
I think he saw me at one point and just looked right back to his caddy and he's just getting back to his grind.
So we're like, all right.
He's busy.
Obviously, there's a major starting tomorrow.
We start to head out.
We walk away and we hear Bryce say, hey, where are you guys going?
Turns around and he's looking at us like literally like where are you guys going.
I thought you guys were going to stick around and talk.
He gave us a look like someone just beat you and something and refused to offer you a double or nothing opportunity.
Yeah.
He gave us a where are you going?
Where are you guys going?
Where are you going?
I haven't even gotten started yet.
Like that was that type of like, you got to give me a chance.
Where are you going?
Right.
And there's also there's still a crowd around.
Oh.
And there's the crowd here watching Bryson.
And when he starts saying, he starts talking about butter knife and wedges.
And he wants to give Frankie a lesson, but we didn't have any lefty clubs.
The crowd started to act up.
They started to get the crowd going.
He grabbed the wedge.
He goes, he like under his breath.
He's like, are you leaving because of this?
Everyone's like, oh, like, he's like, you want a lesson.
Frankie?
I'll help you out.
And everyone's like, take the club.
let's go.
I'm a lefty, number one.
Number two,
yeah,
I was,
I was rattled.
I didn't know what to do.
I fucking ran off that range.
I fucking kept going.
You guys were up there.
Like,
Frank,
you go do something.
I'm like,
no,
I'm running.
I'm running out of here.
You think I want to hold a wedge
in front of my hometown
at a major championship?
It's a nightmare.
With a guy who bodies you on Instagram
every single day.
And there has you have had a history
this week of you talk shit about
Bryce and he's behind his back.
And then when you see him,
he gives you a fist pound and you're like,
oh,
Bryce is,
I've been saying that he's been killing me with kindness.
He comes up to me and he has this huge nice smile.
He's different looking a person.
He doesn't have that stupid hat.
He always looks different.
I don't fucking talk like that.
But you have been getting body and the screenshots you've been putting out from the videos that we do with Bryson.
I've been nervous to be the aggressor.
I'm like, what am I going to say?
Hey man, answer me on Instagram.
I've been trying to play Fortnite with you like for a month and you just keep leaving me on red.
Like, yo, man, when are we going to hit the bus?
When are we going to hit the bus, Bryson?
And he just doesn't answer me.
Trent and Addy and I went.
We tracked down a lefty wedge.
We said we got to come up with a lefty wedge.
There's got to be one here.
It's a fucking major jammy jimmy.
We're on a golf box.
There's stuff everywhere.
So we went.
We found ourselves a lefty wedge.
Almost faster than I thought we would.
We were going to go to the,
they had the trucks parked out there with all the clubs and stuff.
We were going to try and stop by there.
Those trucks just vanished overnight.
So then we walked by the funny.
There's no trucks over there.
There's no trucks over there.
During the day, that's all you see.
Yeah, we'll go knock over there, get a club.
Nope, they vanished.
So we went to the park.
putting green found these two who i they're just magical now because they're like yeah we got our
truck is literally parked in the front spot and we will grab you a lefty wedge Alex beach that's the
guy's name's a pjah pro up in like westchester awesome guy stoolie his caddy they were like
yo we know this guy we went over his cat he's like yeah which one you want 50 54 we grab the 54
frankie's tribut oh you should have got me the 60 it's crazy grab me 54 now i know why i was
well we're kind of under under the gu i know i can't i know i know i know i think i trust you
is a 60-degree wedge. What are you talking about? So Alex Beach,
awesome guy. We come running back, walk up to the range. And the crowd's
going crazy. We find it. We get Frankie, give him the wedge. We're going up. The crowds
is going nuts. Such a dramatic walk-up. Like, Bryson's working on his craft. Again, I want
to reiterate. There is a major championship going on tomorrow. This is no Honda Classic. Not to
take shots of the Honda Classic. This is no John Deere. This is no John Deere. This is no John
Deere Classic. I really thought we were going to get through that.
When you said Honda, I was pumped.
The PGA Championship.
This ain't no John Deer class.
This is not the John Deer.
We're not talking John Deer Class.
This guy's out there.
I just stop saying it.
We talk about John Deer Classic.
No.
This ain't the John Deer Classic.
We're at New York, baby.
So what I said, you guys are such dicks.
When I said it was dramatic, I mean, I walked up there real slow.
I had this wedge in my hand.
You walked up with the wedge like it's a cane.
Yeah.
Just strutting up there like you were a pimp.
Some people in the crowd started to realize what's going on.
They're like, oh, he's got the club.
And then Bryce.
Someone said Frankie and Brison just looked up and just started cracking up.
He goes, no way.
He looks up with this guy last, looks at his catty.
He's like, all right, let's do this.
Like 15 or whatever.
I don't even notice it like 5, 10, 50 minutes.
He told his guy he's going to need with me.
It ended up being about 15 minutes.
Brings me up.
And he's like, all right, let's do this.
You ready?
He throws a ball right at my feet.
I'm like, I'm going to hit this ball right now on a professional driving range of the PGA championship.
With a huge crowd.
With a huge crowd.
I'm going to hit a wedge right now.
With a crowd that was most likely rooting against you.
And I want to tell you guys, you guys.
you guys have both seen me golf.
You guys know that I can at least,
I can put together a pretty good round.
I've been golf in most of my life.
I have a pretty decent swing if I'm not going to,
you know,
I don't want to suck my own dead job.
It's a good looking swing.
I can play a little golf.
I can score decent scores.
I'm not the worst part of the world.
I'm good up the tea.
When I have a wedge in my hand,
I'm not fucking with you.
It's like I've never played the game of golf.
I don't know how to do it.
I can't hit the ground consistently.
I'm constantly,
constantly whipping like on my location.
I'm where I'm supposed to hit the ball.
I'm lifting my head.
I'm so fucking it.
I've been saying this for a year on the podcast.
That's all I do is I sculpt.
And I couldn't be more nervous when he gave me that wedge and that ball to hit in front of these people.
I honestly felt like I'd never played the game of golf before.
You hit some bad shots.
I think my first three were like the most non-athletic swings.
Now, I will say this.
Bryson was telling me to do things that I never do when I hit a wedge.
And that doesn't, I'm not making excuses, but he's telling me to like get all this type of,
which is the correct way.
He's telling me to like lean my body.
It makes sense that it'd be like uncomfortable because you,
You currently can't hit a wedge, but he's trying to tell you properly.
Right.
And he's telling me to hit these 20 to 30 yards shots, and he's saying swing down on the ball as hard as you can.
And when you tell me to do that, that is such a different way than I'm used to hitting sand wedge shots or anything, that I just started chunking the ball and just barely making contact for 15 minutes straight.
He's like, swing harder.
I'm like, Bryson, I can't.
I can't go down on the ball this steep.
I just can't do it.
He's like, oh, let me tell, let me show you.
So, look, I don't want to give away the whole video.
Like, we don't have to describe the whole thing.
People can just watch the video.
Yep.
But it was something.
It was an amazing thing.
They put Frankie's name up on the board at the rain.
That's a real moment.
They have the top tracer going on.
They put your name up on there.
It was something.
So, again, people need to watch out for that video.
It was unlike anything I've ever seen before.
Frankie was shaking.
You know, I've hit some pretty good chips.
So I don't know that we'll ever have an experience like that again.
I don't know how we can't.
It's right.
It's just like the culmination of everything that, like, on this podcast,
we're always talking about how he got the skull flux on the butternives,
and we talk about Bryson.
He came on.
He bodied you with the butternice comment.
And then it comes full circle.
Well, we're at the PJ Championship.
He's on the range.
And he's like, come on back and I'll give you a lesson.
It was unreal.
People got to watch the video.
And I know I give this guy a lot of shit, but like,
we're still sitting here right now, talking this podcast, looking out of the range.
And Bryson has been the only professional golfer on this range for the last, what,
45 minutes, just by himself.
And he was there for like an hour at least before that.
He is grinding right now.
This is a guy who wants to win.
And I have nothing but respect for Bryson D. Chambu.
How can I not?
This guy just fucking awesome.
He's killed you with kindness and respect and chipping lessons and everything.
I mean, how can you not like Bryceon at this point?
Like that little thing that we just did is that is the beef squash.
It has to be.
Yeah.
You don't bring me up into your domain like that.
And like, what am I supposed to do?
It's a little chirp him.
And he did bring up signs.
So that's a little teaser for the video.
He brought up signs in a big way.
Big time.
And you kind of bought it.
So you're drinking the science good.
I am.

this was tuesday tiger woods on the range we we catch win the tigers on the range we've got this
booth this booth is right next to the driving range so we kind of mosey our way over there we got to
we got to see what this action is um well actually before that you guys found him on the putty
green and when i had arrived you guys were staying you guys were staying and you guys were staying
basically like right next to Joe La Cava and like Tiger's bag.
We're doing a little thing that we do at these tournaments when we get access is we start out on the on the public side.
We start walking the hallways.
I mean like the walkways that they have set up for everyone.
We're way away from the players.
And then we're like, we look down at our little media passes and we're like, these things have some letters on them.
Like, let's just see if we can go through this door.
And we do and no one says anything.
And then we go closer and closer and closer.
And to the point where me and Trent and Riggs was on like the phone with something for, for, for, for,
business. I felt like it was a real important call, so we didn't want to go up to you and be like,
we're going to go to the race.
We're going to go to the race. More business meetings.
Since the invention of the Barstville Classic, you've ever heard of me in your thigh life.
Riggs was in such a classic, like, businessman on the golf course conversation where he was like,
he had the phone on, and he added the headphones on.
And he's pacing around underneath a really big birch tree.
Like, it was like classic, like, dad at the golf course trying to get business out.
You and I did go from asking if we could get into the putting area to, to,
standing basically on the putting green.
We stood on the putting green.
Watching Tiger Woods hit maybe 150 puts in a row.
You get a putt.
You guys said that he might have made a hundred puts in a row.
What Tiger Woods does is he puts a T on either side of his putter head,
just enough for the, when he makes his stroke, his putting stroke,
that the putter can go through the T's.
And he puts six balls about five feet away, would you say?
Yeah.
Five to six feet away.
Yep.
And all he does is he does is,
he hits five footers and he replenishes that five balls, puts it right back and hits five footers.
And he just keeps going and going and going until he just gets tired of making puts.
He didn't miss one.
I'd say he no joke hit 115 putts in a row and then just walked off.
So if that's for anyone listening, like if you want to learn a way to practice on the putting green,
Tiger Woods just nails five footers and then it walks off.
So then he walks over this bridge and over towards the drive range.
We get to, we're kind of doing the thing where we're like, I think we can just walk where he walk.
Right?
Then we did.
And we could.
So we walk right up.
We walk over this bridge.
It just goes over all the peasants out there right over them.
There is no better feeling than walking the bridge with a guy.
We did it at Chinicock with Dustin Johnson.
Yes.
We're like,
we're just walking the bridge.
The bridge that they build like the temporary bridge thing is that walk.
There's nothing like it in the world.
Trust me,
we know because we get to do it at all these tournaments.
So then we follow Tiger over the range.
We walk up there.
We mosey.
At this point,
there's a crowd for me.
There's people with gigantic cameras.
And it's incredible because there's,
you know,
maybe at any given time,
like 40 people on the range
and there's not much press at all on the range
it's like mostly a couple swing coaches
and it's pretty casual and this that
and then behind Tiger there's just a semi-circle
of an army of people
huge cameras, jernos
just like fans
who snuck their way in or somehow got
a credential that they're not supposed to have or something like that
the range is packed with people
right around Tiger Woods and we're in this
crew and we start to like
the minute someone showed a point of weakness
where they like they like went to like
reset their camera or something and moved a half inch, we just slipped right in there.
Yeah, closer and closer.
We were pushing up there.
To the point where we got so close, we're just the only people, kind of right up by the front,
we kind of like outlasted other people.
They started to, they started to drop off.
Then we learned because we're getting like tweets and texts and text and stuff from people
that like, who's, or no, somebody over to our left was like, oh yeah, I just found that.
I'm kind of in the shot.
Yeah.
I'm like, I'm getting texts from my wife.
Then I'm in the shot.
And we're like, okay.
We were like, where were you exactly when that happened?
Shows us a little text.
So then we shimmy over to where that guy was.
Next thing you know, we start blowing up.
I guess they were just showing.
I still haven't seen the full footage.
I guess they were just showing like hours of live footage of Tiger just on the range.
That's all they were showing.
The Tiger was there for 45 minutes to an hour and they just turned the camera on.
And they literally, we were just behind them.
That's all we did.
We were literally just behind Tiger Woods as he's preparing for a major championship.
And it was just us three.
It was incredible.
It did.
At one point, it looked like it was a private lesson that we were giving Tiger Woods
on the driving race.
Like, we were standing behind him like, yeah, all right, this and that.
Because there was just nobody else out there.
Yeah, it looked like we were giving them a little bit like, oh, that looks like close
to right.
Like we were just kind of like tweaking with the swing and something like that.
And it looked like we're the only people in Tigers camp.
Just the three of us chilling there.
People zooming in, zooming out.
Like all these different shots.
There were some funny moments of like, Frank, you were biting your lip at one point.
Like you're ready to jump tiger.
There's a video out there.
it's on my Instagram. I don't want to plug my own personal
Instagram. You should follow 4Play first. Fourplay
Pod. Is that what it is? Fourplay pod.
Then you can go out and just follow Frankie
Barley, right? Because it's just like a great account.
You follow Barstle too. Adrichs Barstle, Treet.
You can't get verified. That's something that you're dealing with right now.
I can't believe you brought that up right now. No, I cannot get
verified. It's a battle. Our guy,
Gaz, says he can get people verified and you
just can't get me. You just miss the boat. Like, we all
got it when it was really easy. And now
you just, it's really hard. They allow
me to apply once a month. And I can't get it.
get denied i get a notification that says you were denied you can try again in a month is that hurt when
you get that all it hurts worse than anything you gotta wait a month that's one of the most
grueling verification processes i've ever it's like hey man we're not gonna take it but try in 30
days 30 days it's like i just stew for four weeks so unreal yeah you yeah you're sexual there's a moment
where tigers like we're right behind and then it looks like we're the only people in the world
allowed to watch tiger woods hit this golf ball and he makes contact with this three wood and i
fucking lock eyes on this ball and I just bite my lip I smile I was making sweet sweet love to that
ball flight which is a little baby fade I found out that tiger woods hits all day every day he just
hits these little baby cuts oh my goodness it's unbelievable watching this guy hit golf balls in real life
it's unbelievable I at one point got a little emotional I'm not kidding I turned to you too and I said
we are actually watching the best golfer of all time hit golf balls within
five feet of our faces.
We're just watching the best of all time do it.
Like in 130 years,
they're going to talk about Tiger Woods
and how amazing of a golfer he was,
and we fucking were right there.
That's a moment that you can't,
you can't even fathom.
It was incredible.
I had a strange thought that I told you
that we were so close to Tiger Woods
that one of the real thoughts
that came across my mind was,
I could get to him before anybody could get to me.
I could get to him.
That's how you know.
Like bear hug him?
Just, yeah.
Just like, that's how close you are.
Like, you know, like if you're in the crowd
and he's at a tournament, like, and you try to run at Tiger Woods,
you're going to get stiff-armed by, like, four cops.
We were so close that I could have gotten to him before anybody could have gotten to me.
I'm not saying I would ever do that, but I'm just saying that that was a real thought that
crossed my mind.
Yeah, it crossed my mind, too, like you were saying, Frankie,
where part of me thought for a few minutes in real time,
this is as cool of a spectating experience that I've ever had.
Like, watching Sidney Crosby just go around and shoot around on his
his own or watching like Michael Jordan just shoot around before you know he goes and plays in game
seven of like the NBA final or something like that and you had a front row seat you're like
standing underneath the hoop and it was like we're standing right in front or right next you right
behind Tiger Woods warming up hitting balls at a major championship where he is the most
recent major champion yes like he's the master's chain unbelievable which makes that makes that changes
it a lot it makes it so much better yeah because he's expected he's like expected to be in
the mix. He's expected to win.
It would have been one thing if he had like the comeback, it's like another comeback.
Like, all right, he's maybe he'll win this one finally and we'll get this major
championship thing rolling again. No, he won the Masters and now he's at the PJ
championship and he could win again.
No, this isn't like old Tiger Woods, like an old decrepit Tiger Woods.
You get to see him at like the senior open like, oh, Tiger's great.
Like we get to see him right there.
Like, no, this is fucking, I'm on top of the world, Tiger Woods.
Like I just fucking won the men.
masters and i'm here to win the pGA championship watch me bomb and piss on balls
sometimes he would turn around and he would like get some teas out of his bag and i try to
make eye contact with him it was i mean it was that's when i because watching frank his
his driver at cover and just taking his driver out is something i'll never forget i i had a little
you know what's up moment with his team he did all right i didn't know if we're going i mean this is
yeah yeah you know his guy let's give him congratulations well i mean we're all talking about
all this different cool stuff that happened to each other.
What happened, Ray?
What did you do?
I'm just, you know, I was staying so close that his team is.
I could have gotten to him before.
I'll say it for Riggs so he can stay humble.
Tiger's team just like saw Riggs and was like, hey Riggs and like went over and like
dapped him up.
Tiger's best friend and like A.K. Swing coach and A.K.A. like just guy just like looking
at Riggs at a major championship.
Be like, what's up Riggs?
Like, what's going on?
We're just going to win this PGA championship.
Who's an awesome guy?
That's an awesome moment.
He's the fucking man.
What's his name?
guy in the world, Robbie Mac?
Robbie Mac.
Robbie Mac.
I didn't know much about Robbie Mac coming into this tournament.
I mean, I knew of Robbie Mac, but like, even guys that we've talked to around, like, the golf community, like, like, there's, like, professional golfers that we've been.
Like, you know, what does that guy really do for Tiger?
And everyone's just like, he's his guy.
Imagine just being, like, I'm Dave Portnoy's guy, but, like, I have a job, right?
Like, that's, like, my job.
Like, Robbie Mac is even more than, Robbie Mac is Tiger's guy.
Guy.
He's Tiger's guy.
and he's the man and he's dapping up a little rigsy he got Robbie Mac he got a huge hug at the
masters and people recall like Tiger of course after he won he had the family stuff with Charlie
with Sam with the girlfriend with his mom and then like right after that he did a big hug
where the crowd kind of went crazy it kind of looked like more of like a bro hug like let's go with
this boy that's Robbie Mac who's our guy who he did he gave a little dab up like Rigsie great to see
how's everything going I was like congrats fan I love you
you hug so we had a little moment
and then we watched Tiger Chip he walked over
and just oh we saw Rory come up and hugged him
Trent Daddy got a great little picture of video
Oh yeah yeah it was good to see that
Yeah a little paying homage to the goat
Rory was hitting balls right next to Tiger
And nobody could have given a fuck
No way any other world where Tiger Woods isn't back on top
Like there have been tournaments
Where Tiger hasn't been in and like the only person
We want to watch is Rory
Yep I mean we went to the Masters when Tiger wasn't there
And all we cared about that week was like being around Rory
Like Rory was like the guy
He was the guy who wanted to be around like
see, Rory was fucking, I didn't even look at him.
I didn't even know he was there until he walked by us.
I'm like, oh, Rory's there.
Who gives a shit?
Tiger Woods is hitting golf balls into the sun.
He was hitting golf balls into the sun.
He hits this little cut.
And, I mean, his ball doesn't move.
It moves like five feet left to right.
You know what else he does that, like, he absolutely does this.
And it's, I, maybe only people that I get to watch him in personal recessions.
He's still pounding on.
I mean, we all, looking back there.
I just lost my train of thought out.
Because Bryson just hit a shot that rang through this booth.
He's a thousand yards away from us, and it sounded like he hit me.
Well, a little behind the curtain as well.
He's the last guy in the range, and as soon as he leaves,
there are going to be very loud mowers and leaf blowers that take over the range.
This is huge that he's doing this.
So Bryson is doing us yet another solid by staying on the range and keeping those leaf blowers at bay.
I don't think he has any clue.
By the way, on this podcast, when those leapblowers do come,
I think people are probably going to hear.
Like at some point they're going to hear those leafblowers
You're going to be like oh yeah that's you can't do a podcast
So Bryson is honestly saving our show right now
Wait real quick
What I noticed the Tiger does
I don't know if you guys noticed this too because I didn't ask you
But he hits multiple shots with his club
So he had like a five iron or a four iron
And he was hitting no joke
Like a 160 yard high
Like flop shot type shot with his five iron
And it would like come all the way down from left to right
And then that same club
He'd hit a low,
stinging, like, riser
240 yards. There was, like,
clubs that he was doing distance control
with, like, that no joke, I was
looking up at the screen, were 40 to 50 yard
differences with his clubs. With the same club. He was
shifting. So I think he does that with each club.
Like, all right, I'm going to hit this shot. Real high,
have it come down soft. I'm going to hit this club
recovery shot. I'm going to hit this. Like, every single
club has a different shot. And he practices
them to perfection. So Hank Handy
talked a lot in his book, The Big Miss, about
the nine shots. And Tiger Wood
on the range in
in his kind of heyday when he was absolutely just on another level golf-wise when Hank Haney was working with him like 0-6-07
Tiger won a bunch of majors and just won a million golf tournaments during that stretch how Tiger would hit the nine shots with each club he would hit like a medium like level trajectory cut
medium straight ball, medium draw,
and then go like high draw,
high cut, straight cut,
or high draw, like high cut, high straight ball.
And then he would go like really low cut,
really low draw, really low straight ball.
Hit nine shots with each club.
We watched him do that yesterday.
Yeah, we were in such a,
we were in so much all that.
I didn't really get that he was doing it repetitively.
And then at one point, just clicked on like,
that ball five seconds ago,
he hasn't touched his bag.
His shot just went 235 yards,
and the next one went off.
180 there's something going on right now
he also with his driver
watching to do with his driver and he
saw him hit one just
massive towering
draw with his driver and I was
like wow that just started high
went high wow
wow what a hole
that the lawnmower started
wow wow wow wow wow wow
and then the very
next swing like 20 seconds
later was a low
missile cut
that went
went, you know, like $2.75 or something,
and that huge high-towering wow ball went like $300.
And I just stood there was like,
how in the literal fuck does somebody have that much control with the driver?
Meanwhile, I mean, we're watching these other people on the range.
They're all over.
Jordan Speed's hitting a couple duck hooks.
Jordan's beat is kind of in a house.
I mean, this is now, this is going to come out Thursday.
So the tournament has, if you listen to this in the morning,
tournament hasn't started yet.
Maybe it's like just starting as you're listening.
Yeah.
I'm predicting Jordan's beat to have a really bad tournament.
what are you thinking i mean we were watching him on the rain he was in a house of horrors he was in a house
of horrors he didn't know whether that's his process all the time see i think that's his process
all right but because when we watched a couple days ago or yesterday or whatever
house a horse now when we talk about his process what i mean is every shot he hit to yesterday
was it was he watched it go out he turned around he like put his head down he looked at his
club and then he like kind of like i don't want to say bitch but like he talked it out like a lot
with his like swing coach and his guys and then go back and do it again like it was
constant like there was constant confirmation on whether that shot was good or not it was never like
like when you watch tiger hit he didn't talk to anyone he just is in the zone does it gets his
next club does it jordan spath was jordan spath really fucking oh shout out jordan spath had like a tort
where was that's the spath thing i think that was that in byron nelson yeah this last at the bairnelson
they put up this huge thing that said spieth but the i was his golf bed right and when you just
look at the letters that are all big it's how it's how to
from the golf bag is just Spath.
So I commented on his Instagram, I just wrote
Jordan Spath.
It's pretty great. I mean, that
plays, Jordan Spass. It's laugh out loud by it.
It could be his process, but what we saw was
it was. And later that day, after watching him do that on the range, we saw him,
we were like on our way home. And we saw Jordan Span at the putting
ring, like, doing it again. Like, I saw him, like, hit a putt, and he
just like, kind of looked at his putter and, like, smacked it for a second.
He's like, I just don't fucking. Like, yeah, I don't understand.
He did. He hit a put and then lost his mind as the put was on his way to the hole.
And I said to her.
I think this guy's like, yeah, I asked you.
I'm like, you think this guy's like losing his shit right now.
We've got to have a John Rom situation on the fucking putting green.
And then he's probably going to win this week.
Like, I honestly don't know that that's much different than when he was winning major championship.
Maybe you saw him on the practice week on Tuesday of a major when he was lighting it up and like nearly won the Grand Slam in 2015.
Like I don't know that that would have been any different.
I think that's really fair because we never watched him.
Yeah, this is like our first trip.
We're just like kids in the candy start trying to pick up little things.
I could be wrong.
That's just kind of my.
Because I've seen him a few other times and I do, I remember him being jittery in a little.
It's probably a little bit ramped up now, but I also don't know.
You know, he's always kind of been talking to his ball and, like, freaking out about it and, like, having an emotional reaction all the time, which I like.
But that's just bad.
I'll say, you gave him props.
You're like, we were walking by him on the putting green.
You said, that's a guy that wants to win a golf tournament.
Yes.
He was living or dying on every pot on the practice.
Which, another guy wants to win a golf tournament.
Bang.
I don't know if anyone has heard that absolute striped show.
I also gave a kid a Jordan Speeth Club.
That was kind of a weird moment.
Michael Greller came.
came up to me and I was like, what's about to happen?
Nope.
I don't know.
No clue what's about that.
Yeah.
I was like, do you see a foreplay guy?
What's going on here?
And he folded up a glove and gave it to me.
He said, can you give it to that kid behind you the PJ hat?
So I'm a hero via Jordan Speeth and Michael Gregg.
I wonder what made him pick that guy.
That's one of the same thing.
There's a lot of kids back there.
There's a ton of kids.
I mean, the kid kind of did glow.
Like, when I looked back there, he was the only kid that I really locked the eyes on.
So maybe some kids have that aura.
I mean, that's not a clip that needs to go out.
Yep.
add no context of that and just cut that right out.
Why are you locking eyes with kids, Frank?
I think you said he was glowing.
It's so tough.
Why are you locking eyes with kids, Frank?
That's so tough.
Kids that are glowing.
I knew that that was problematic because
I'm like,
like,
like,
he kind of just like spit his water out sitting in that.
When I said,
that's a kid that,
that's a kid that.
You're going to do it again?
No,
no.
I'm just saying when I turned around,
I'm like,
oh, that's the only person I noticed.
Like,
okay.
Everyone else had,
so you were attracted to the person
behind you.
I don't know how to fucking explain it.
listen yeah that was a strange moment
Michael Greller and I
everything about this got stranger with Frankie
I didn't know that you had
Were you jealous of the
Trent
handing the kid a glove
No
I'm just saying
If you're gonna pick out a reason
As to why that kid got picked
I'm just saying that he was like noticeable
Like I don't know if it was
Just dig yourself a hole here
I don't know if it was that he was taller
I'm not saying his fucking looks
The kid was eight years old
I'm just saying
That's what we're saying
I'm saying that he was like taller
And like was more forward
And like the sun was hitting him
I just fucking with Frankie
But you love that he was
I love digging yourself a hole.
I do like digging myself.
It's true.
You're not good at digging yourself out of it.
No.
You dig yourself deeper.
I mean, I dug myself on that fucking driving range.
I must have taken...
I know people are going to watch the video, but I must...
I chunk that fucking thing up.
It's a...
It is good that the PJ Championship moves the range up a little bit each day so that they don't
play where the chunks are and all the divot.
Because I chunked up that spot that Bryson City right now like you wouldn't believe.
That's...
That page black might send you an invoice for the turf that you took out there?
I was panicking.
There's a circle of just...
dirt where like everyone else like all the pros when they take divvits like they go on a line and
it's just what it was like left to right i have a circle yeah and your divvits too were like you know
they're all supposed to be where you take out the minimum amount of new grass yeah yours your divots
were spotty all over the place you're taking out brand new divvets everywhere it was honestly
the worst i've ever played with a sandwich but you started to figure it out at the end yeah
because bryson started talking size bryson might just be here and tell the tournament starts tomorrow
so here's another thing i'll say about bryson a couple months ago i would say that he's being a
Hardo right now, and he's trying
for his image
to be the last guy on the range.
I'd be like, look at Bryson, that fucking
loser nerd.
He's like, come on, dude, like, stop trying so hard.
We know your professional guy. Like, you're not,
like, we'd see a clip of him at, like,
7 o'clock at night. What was it at?
Carnusti, where he was, like, losing his mind.
Cautenusty. Like, PGA Championship would
tweet out, like, Bryson on the range,
730, a Wednesday before the, and I'd
be like, fuck off, dude. Like, are you
kidding me? Tiger's been home for a
Seven hours just getting ready to win a championship.
You've got to be on the race.
But watching him in person, he's grinding.
There could be.
There's no more fans.
They're just gone.
There's like seven people left.
So are you guys ready to apologize to me?
I'm not going to.
I think I'm going to keep this report.
Saying right after I met him and spent time with him at the PGA championship last year,
I said all the things that you are now coming to realization that they came to
realization to me because I have the same experience you're having right now.
you know i will not apologize i didn't
apologize this is the same argument when people say like
apologize bad take or something at the time i had never met him
and at the time i was only watching him
from a distance and seeing that he looked like a dick now
having getting a private shipping lesson at a major championship
yeah i'll i'll say he's an awesome dude which were you maybe trying to get that
across to us at some point maybe
he got you up and said what's up man i'm a good i'm a big man i didn't know
on the range just like this i was there i experienced old thing
I put out the video, film a little video.
We thought he was doing that to just win people over.
It's different when you're there.
It's different when you're there.
I'm asking you to apologize for not trusting my...
No, you weren't trusting my reporting.
That's like a...
At the time, I thought...
Reporting.
True, I didn't trust a report.
I'm standing by that.
Yeah, because you went in for 45 seconds and we're like, this guy's awesome.
It's 45 seconds.
Whatever.
Bryson's an awesome guy.
Glad you guys finally came around.
He's an awesome guy.
I think I'm going to play Fortnite with him today.
That'll be great.
I'm happy for you.
I hope he dominates you.
I love that he brings the system every row with him.
He goes, yeah, I'm going to play tonight.
Good for him.

Burrell's last night
Hello
Frankie's family restaurant
Out here on Long Island
What's what town's it in?
New Hampshire East Meadow
East Meadow
New York out here on Long Island
We've been there a good handful of times now
Mr. Borrell
It's been in the family
Started in 1955
64 years
64 years they've been doing it
They've been cranking out
Just quality delicious
Italian food out here
On Long Island
We went last night
And had an epic night there
We began with
Kiz
Who's our boy
a lot more kids to get to
Charlie Hoffman
who they call the Seagull
because he just flies over
and shits on people
who's a very sarcastic
very witty guy
I thought he was called Charlie Hoffman
the Seagull because he looks like a seagull
I thought that's why
I thought people said he looked like a seagull
Is that like the inside joke?
No
Do people like call him the seagull
and then say
it's because he shits on people?
No literally kids
and them are like the only people
that call him.
Yeah it's a very inner circle
So when you guys said that
I was like oh like when
kids look to me
he's like the seagal
I was like, oh, because he looks like one.
I didn't know.
I didn't know the joke.
I'll tell you that.
We first heard that when we interviewed him for the president's cup at 30.
I'm going to stay right at the top of that.
I didn't have really a feeling about Charlie Hoffman going into that dinner.
I didn't like, he's just kind of like blat to me.
He's the guy who's always leading the master's on Thursday with the green glove.
Kind of looks kind of doofy, right?
Like Charlie Hoffman out there just smiling and just being nice.
Like whatever.
After meeting Charlie Hoffman, I am such a Charlie Hoffman fan.
We keep meeting these people.
I don't give a fuck.
Charlie Hoffman is so different off the golf course than he is when you watch him on TV.
It's actually alarming.
The public perception of Charlie Hoffman is so much different than the guy you sit down at dinner with.
He's a regular dude shooting the shit, making hilarious jokes.
Like, holy shit.
This is the same guy.
Where's a green glove at the Masters?
He honestly, so Bryson's, there's a couple of clabs called.
Bryce is the Shempos finally leaving the driving range.
We're kind of grinding too, though.
We're doing a podcast.
We're going to be here.
later than he is.
It's now 7.17 p.m.
on Wednesday before the PGA championship out here.
I'm going to try to wait to him here.
Bryson is finally leaving the driving range.
He's trying to wave at him.
You think I should say something?
Nothing's happening.
Maybe I'll say something.
Yeah.
Give him a little something.
I don't know if he notices us.
I'm trying here.
He's working hard.
I think he's going to be gone.
He's got some fans chirping.
Yeah, go, Bryson.
I tried to get his dinner.
Wait, no, maybe.
Oh, he's going to go with the fans.
He sees a little kid.
Look at Bryce and D.
This is the play-by-play.
You can't get anywhere else.
I'm going to give you guys a little play-by-play here.
Bryson was just about to leave.
He's eating like a tent-t bar.
Shout out tent-t bar.
I don't even know if it was a tent-t bar.
I love that fucking bar.
Yeah, something like that.
They're delicious.
Oh, they're so good.
And he saw a little kid, and the kid, he walked right back over to a little kid.
And the kid threw him a fucking.
What is that thing?
It's a golf ball.
I'm looking at the thing he's signing right now.
Wait, wait, wait.
No, it's like one of the flags.
What's that?
That's a flag?
With that thing under it.
What's that little white thing with dimples on?
Yeah.
Everybody knows like one of those paddles that be at the PJ Championship.
I wasn't talking about the ball.
I was talking about the paddle.
What's the ping pong ball?
When you try and get into a fraternity, what's those little things?
Those like paddles.
I don't know.
I think a paddle is the way to go there.
I think it's a paddle when you get spanked.
Yeah, I think it's a paddle.
I think he signed a paddle.
So now he's signed in half.
He's just signing hats.
What a dude.
All right.
So keep going on about the dinner.
So Borrellys.
Within that, I may stop him.
just say Bryson.
So go on.
At dinner last night,
Charlie Hoffman is.
He's a very sarcastic.
He's a very witty.
He's a very funny guy.
And then we also had Dewey,
who is,
who is our boy.
Right.
Thanks,
he's the gigantic.
Oh,
here he's coming over here.
He's coming and giving the boys a little bit of love.
Hey.
Dude.
So,
perfect.
Frankie's just talking about it.
I think it helped.
Here,
hop over here for a second.
Let's see your athleticism.
One second.
One second.
One second.
He gave us that, like, classic.
He closed his eyes.
Like, you fucking, all right.
I'll come over for a second.
So I'm excited.
Is that kind of his vantage point of how that went?
We're doing on the show right now.
Take a little spin.
Take a little spin on the podcast real quick.
All right.
So, Bryson, DeChambeau.
So, Bryson, how you doing?
You're on the range for a while.
Yeah.
I don't want to.
Is that better?
Oh, that sounds really nice.
All right.
So we want to hear from your vantage point.
Frankie Borelli's a little chipping lesson.
How did you think it went?
Well, if I had a little bit more time,
obviously would have helped him get even
into a better direction but yeah
I mean he's getting a lot better you know he does
have the butter nice but it is what it is and they came
out today man they were sharp they did but hey
you know you were in a crowd setting you're not used to it
yeah something you just have to get comfortable with and block it out
yeah you were a pro with the crowd because frankie kept being like
I can't deal these fucking people chirping
oh you were like don't even worry about it bro I mean that's the thing you just
they aren't even there they're just blobs right in the day
and that's what I've had to learn over my course of my career
my faint career out here
They're just blobs out.
We won't hold you here for too long, but thank you so much.
I mean, this is like, this is what we talk about with these players.
Like, when you're, when we perceive players and we watch them on TV or see them on the internet, like, we have these, like, thoughts about them.
For sure.
And then watching you do that with me out there is so relatable and awesome.
That's like my buddy just being like, let's go out to the range.
I mean, we're just trying to figure, I mean, look at me.
I'm trying to figure shit out till the ODark.
And believe it, we've been talking about it.
Like you being out here, right.
That's just me trying to work on it.
And you know what?
At the end of the day, that's all it matters.
is just trying to get better and helping people out get better.
That's what I love doing.
Dude, love it, man.
Good luck this week.
I'm so hard for you right now.
Appreciate it.
You're finding out there.
You were grinding.
Oh, yeah.
Well, it's not about finding.
It's more about learning about the errors that I have.
So like, let's say, 10 great shots and hit one bad shot.
I'm going to like, all right, what the hell is that?
What is going on when I hit that one bad shot?
And that's really what I'm trying to figure out.
And I want to make sure that bad shot is not 20 yards right.
It's only five yards right.
And that's really what I'm trying to.
I saw you.
rip in a nice little draw
with your drive. Yeah, it's getting there. Slowly but surely, a couple of right
shots. I hate that. But at the end of the day,
I'll get it better. It's just
going to be a little bit of a process this year. I had
it last year, and it was unbelievable.
I'm learning why I had it last year.
And so I'm still working on that, but it should be a good week
anyway. Well, you're the man. Thanks for all week thus far.
Good luck this week. We appreciate.
Good luck out there.
I mean, that's a little Bryson appearance, right in the middle of that podcast.
That guy's the man. I also,
I got to give a huge shout out to the grounds crew here.
these guys over here walking around with their little blowers.
And the guy made eye contact with me.
And he had like his finger on the trigger.
I'm like,
I'm not ready to blow this fucking place.
And I gave him a,
I literally gave him a one finger up,
one moment.
It's like a movie scene where he's just about to put a trigger and he makes it.
And he's like,
I'm going to fucking do it.
I'm going to hit this blower and you're like, no.
Just one second.
Please for the low.
I got to give me a little eye contact back.
like you know I'm about to do it and I gave me one minute man I'm gonna blow these goddamn
lose all over this place I'm gonna ruin that podcast if that guy pulls that trigger this podcast is
over and they waited and they're still right now they're kind of getting their shit together
that guy regrouped a little bit but bryce de chabot he just stopped by after the range that was
all time this week has been unreal this is this is crazy what is after three idiots I'm a fucking
idiot I mean people are why if you watch the video of us playing 18 holes at best
There are a couple of idiots just like, Bryson is about the play for a fucking major tomorrow,
and he's coming over here at 8 o'clock in night, just talking it out.
What a guy.
Talking about the way he's like his airs.
Very cool.
What a stop-in by Bryson right there.
All right.
So let's get back to Borrellys.
Last night with the boys, Dewey, who is, uh, kids is catty.
The cabs, right?
He's got cats.
Big cats.
Gigantic cats.
He was wearing shorts or pants last night?
He was wearing pants last night.
He was wearing pants last night.
He was wearing jeans.
That's a goddamn shame.
You should have seen him on the golf course today.
He was in shorts.
his cows were popping.
Like Phil Mickelson cast?
They're way bigger.
We had a conversation about that.
He's like, you know, people have been hitting me up being like, oh, look at Phil's
Cavs.
But we're team Dewey.
Team Dewey, his cats are huge.
Dewey also, I think at one point he goes, he goes, Phil ain't got shit on me.
Yep.
Oh, he's just doing it.
You guys going to collie dab?
No, Trent doesn't love it.
It's been a good day.
Yeah, let's do it.
Wow.
It's been a good day.
Checking Dewee.
I'm like, he's just doing it.
I'll take it.
So we did dinner with this crew.
We're drinking wine.
Like, guys are kids telling stories with Dewey about how they've ripped it up and like almost,
almost ripped up their entire relationship on the golf course one time.
One of the best stores I've ever heard about caddies.
We got that video coming out too.
And then after that, Sir Nick comes in and we had had this arranged where Sir Nick was going to come in after we finished dinner with the other guys.
He's going to come in.
We're going to interview him for the podcast, which you guys are about to hear in a few minutes.
The show is going to have Bryson and Sir Nick on it, which is amazing.
True.
And, you know, he comes in.
It's like Sir fucking Nick Faldo, who's in Borrelli's restaurant.
Much taller than I thought he was going to be.
He's a big guy.
Yeah, he is.
Especially for my dad.
We've had unbelievable guests in Borrellys before.
I've had the New York Islanders.
Back in the day, they used to all come in, Brian Trottier, Nystrom, all these guys.
We've had fucking Broadway Joe Namath coming in.
When I first met your dad, I asked him who's the biggest person that's
I'm in this place and he told me Joe Namath.
We've had a ton of people, right?
People from the freaking Coliseum, whatever.
Like, Sir Nick Valdow is right up there with one of the craziest ones ever.
In what world would a European golfing legend,
knighted human being coming to Brelies and Foreplay made that happen?
So he did.
He came walking in.
He, you know, he ate a little bit of dinner real quick.
Like, let's feed you.
We finished up with the other boys.
Then we go over and we have this godfather-like set,
which the whole video again is going to be on YouTube.
of the entire interview.
There's going to be pictures that we put out on Twitter.
But the whole interview video interview is going to be on YouTube.
The full interview is going to be on this podcast in a minute right now.
But then he ordered us a round of just Scotch straight.
Before we did the interview as like appreciation, but also like a message, like let's do this.
We sat down with Sir Nick for about 45 minutes, drinking scotch at Borrell.
He told stories.
We talked.
He did impressions.
We talked to all kinds of good stuff.
the one thing we got to say before we put that interview him is that we then this morning
uh trit daddy and i walked inside the ropes for about eight holes with kiz patten kazir and ryan fox
is a new zealand guy and kids walking inside the ropes to these guys hearing them like talk through
different shots with his caddy all this different jazz inside the roaster and put some of those
videos out too was an all-time experience there's nothing like it the course is playing
firmer than you would expect like yeah it's been raining there's wet spot
all over the place.
The rough is definitely tough,
but the fairways are holding
firm more than I thought.
The greens are holding their firmness more than I thought.
So I don't, I think the course is still going to play
long and all that, but it's also just going to
play really fucking hard.
There's absolutely no.
And there's no way of getting around it not being hard, right?
Like, it's going to play fucking difficult.
It's going to play hard.
And it's going to play long.
Well, seeing kids out there after just like spending a night with him,
like just bullshitting and drink a wine, like playing that golf course,
like hilarious.
How good golf he is is outrageous.
It's outrageous.
Because, yeah, we had a bunch of wine last night.
We had a good time.
And then we're out there today.
But then he's still the same guy.
And then we have to, like, back up when he's about to hit his shot.
And then he goes into Kevin Kisner, professional golfer mode and hits unbelievable shot.
So I wasn't there on the course of you guys.
And I asked you, I was that like, is that like, I saw some of the pictures.
Like was that like, was that rattling to him that you guys were like just like at one point,
rigged at the back up and like not be in the way of his back swing?
And like he, and, like, he, and Riggs, you said like he couldn't have been cooler.
Like he literally was talking to you guys right after he swan.
He goes like, oh, is that good content there.
So people are hearing right now, I think.
I think they're starting.
Can you hear that, Jake?
Oh, yeah, they're starting to rev up.
The guy who's revving up, all right.
The guy who's been waiting is literally just like, fuck this, man.
I got to go home and eat tonight.
This guy said, I can't hold it anymore.
Like, the water's coming through.
It's barreling past this dam.
It's over for you guys.
Oh, boy.
It's just over.
There's a got.
There's so much machinery.
Scene going on here.
Inside the ropes with kids and the boys was incredible.
Kiz hit Driver 3 iron on multiple bar fours.
We told you they were coming.
That's how real this show is.
We're getting fucking drowned out by the goddamn grounds crew.
Next time, Sir Nick Baldow.
Go check out our YouTube page.
PJ Chairman.
Oh, I feel like I want to play.
Oh, my God.
Enjoy the interview.
It is our.
Sir Nick, where is up next?
Let's go.
Most guys have tried different ways to last longer, but simply thinking about golf does not always work.
Simply thinking about Frankie's shipping game does not always.
work. It sometimes does, but not anymore.
The folks at
Roman, an online men's health company, are changing the game
with Roman Swipes the Secret
to Longer Lasting Sex.
Bang. Bang. Just that word.
Wow.
Sex is nice. Sex is fucking awesome.
It's cool, man. And you do not want sex to end,
do you? I want it to last forever.
You know, it's crazy. I'm watching that Our Planet thing.
Like, how the hell do these fucking animals know what's like,
they just know to like
latch on each other and just go at it
it's crazy dude
like there's these little birds on a
fucking there's these little birds on a
branch and they just know to hump the shit out of each other
and that's it and they don't even have
like they need Roman because
but they don't do it for pleasure
I know I'm just saying I'm not I know
they do arguably the most
instinctual natural thing that
they do that part blows
my mind that it's instinctual
like I'm gonna stick this right there
birds hump each other
No.
I can't.
I can't.
Roman swipes are a clinically proven way to last longer in bed,
whether you're a bird or whatever the hell you are.
Easy to use.
Fast acting and doctor recommended, but do not require a prescription.

slash four you got that folks free two-day shipping visit get roman dot com slash four that's get roman
dot com slash four all right we are joined by an incredibly special guest sir nick faldo six-time
major winner he is the lead uh analyst for cbs's golf coverage alongside mr jim nance we're at
borelli's restaurant first impressions of borelli's restaurant right great great choice yeah this is
fun. I needed that. I mean, I flew up from Orlando. We had two-hour rain delay and all the
dramas. They're getting across town and everything. And here I am. So I needed some, as I would
say, naughty food. Well, we fed you and then you responded by getting us a little scotch.
Yeah, we'll eat dram, because I thought we needed something to kill the germs.
I know. I appreciate that. So we are, this is, this reminds me of when we had Monty on.
I did you. He came in with all of his Lachloman whiskey. Yes. And we are drinking and having a good time.
and it kind of loosened everybody.
Wow, I'll have to get a Feldo.
I'm not really a scorstman, but I can,
but I could maybe get a, I wouldn't mind aligning myself to a distillery.
It would be a good move.
It's not a bad idea.
So let's talk about getting knighted.
How does somebody get knighted?
How does that come about?
Well, technically, it's for services to golf.
Okay.
And obviously my major wins and kind of everything I've,
done, you know, charitable contributions, all that sort of thing.
And my came, it was actually 10 years ago this November.
And it was an amazing day.
Very emotional day.
My parents couldn't handle it.
You can imagine.
So, you know, I'm a young lad who's, when you actually see my show, my specialty,
you know, I was brought in a two up, two down, council house, as we call him, Britain.
You know, the end of a terrace council house.
My dad worked as a unqualified accountant.
His first job was down at the foundry in Wellington Garden City.
Been the accountant down there.
My mom was a dressmaker.
My dad apparently earned five pounds a week back then.
Yeah, it's like whatever they convert that into dollars.
It's not a lot, is it?
Somebody will run those numbers.
Yeah, well, I'm sure there was, who knows how many dollars there were to the pound,
way back 50 plus years ago.
So we didn't have, you know, I came into the world.
So I was a lad that grew up in a little council house.
We spent 11 years at that place.
And, you know, I loved it.
I had a normal, what you would deem as a normal childhood.
I mean, I had a great back garden.
And I had the woods across the road, which was probably about three acres of woods.
But when you're this high, that, look, it's like 300.
Yeah, we were scared, you know what, to go to the first.
far-sided because it was really dark down there and he was like oh gee you know so yeah it was a brave
venture and now he's he'd probably have a driver over the whole lot now but who knows but um
so that's how i grew up so when you think how i grew up and then how i started playing golf and
everything and and when we if you wanted to pursue a sport in britain or europe we didn't have
the scholarship systems you have in america you have to kind of leave schools right so i left school at
16 and went to the practice ground and beat balls a couple of years as an amateur and went through a whole career
you know and climbed up you know we started off with um my very first year on tour i made while you're like
this i don't think i made 3,000 pounds it was 2,000 pounds something right how about that no no you
can you look at the number and i've finished my first goal was to finish in the top 60 that was the exempt
bit of our tour in Europe.
No, it was Britain.
It was Britain.
It was his pre-European tour.
So my first goal when I turned pro was to finish the top 60.
I finished 58th.
We're winning 2,347 quid, whatever it was.
The next year, amazingly, that was 1976.
1977 was a Ryder Cup year.
And I've already thought to myself, well, I want to be a Ryder Cup golf.
I want to play Ryder Cup.
Right.
And I made the Ryder Cup team finishing, I think, about 8 or 9th,
on the team with about 8,743 pounds.
And I made the writer-cupton.
And I then played, which was unbelievable,
because I played against Jack second day.
And, you know, Jack was the one who I watched the Masters way back.
In 1971, I watched the Mask.
It was Jack on TV.
He didn't win that particular one,
but it was the inspiration of like, wow, golfers?
What's this game of golf walking down?
That's the first time you remember first kind of watching.
That's the first time I saw, yeah.
Again in Britain, I'm coming up to 14.
I didn't get the color TV until I was 12.
I got TV when I was 8.
It's a color TV at 12.
So all these things, you imagine how this inspires you.
You think, wow, all these picked this image, vision.
And it was like, I want to try golf.
So can you imagine, I've tried golf.
And then only six years later, I'm playing against Jack in the Ryder Cup.
And I beat him.
And I beat him.
Yeah, so you try that.
It's just six years from picking up a golf club.
I beat the great Jack Nickliss in the Ryder Cup.
And I remind Jack of this every time I see it.
And he is the worst.
He's the nicest guy in the world, but he doesn't remember any of his losses.
So you go, I beat you, Jay.
I go, really?
I said, no, we played.
Now, don't stop listening about.
It's me, Jack.
Don't give me all that.
We played?
I said, what do you mean we play?
I beat you.
It's like the biggest moment of your life, and he's like, I don't remember.
I used to say, I beat you two and one.
and then now I looked at official books.
It was three and one.
So now I'll beat you three in one.
I mean, Jack Nickliss, some of his only demons may be Sir Nick Faldo in his entire career.
Yeah, it's right.
His only negativity in his life is me.
It's absolutely correct.
He looked at me funny every time he sees me.
He gives me that look.
He pretends he wants to take me fishing, but, you know, I hope it happens.
He's like, that Sir Nick is going to bring up that damn match.
That damn, yeah, every time.
There's not many times you can go out to be a gentleman.
Right, no, you got to hang your hat on that.
Anyway, so that's, you know, so that's, well, you see I'm bouncing around.
That's my brain.
But that's how I kind of got started.
And so you asked about the knighting.
And so you can imagine when you started and you've done 20 odd years and then you get recognized by, which is fantastic.
Because it's our highest award, a bit like your Medal of Freedom.
It's the highest award of the common man can get is being knighted.
So they, you know, you've got very famous ones, you know, Elton John and Paul McCartley and Sean Conn.
Honorary and Sir Richard Branson and all sorts and the ladies, of course, get their dames as well.
So to be honored like that, considering where I came from, is quite something.
That's amazing.
As you know, here at Barstall, we love merch.
Obsessed with merch.
We got great merch.
I mean, we've got the Travis Matthew hats are now back in stock.

So, yeah, you mentioned the special a little bit.
The CBS special, Sir Nick, takes off the armor, I believe, 1 p.m. on Saturday, kind of prefacing the coverage of the PGA Championship.
Talk to us a little about the special.
Let's plug the special.
Well, yeah, the special.
It really is kind of going back in time, a bit of history, you know, how I got started, all that sort of thing.
as I've kind of described.
And I'm now, you know, in this new era,
so I've been a golfer, obviously I did that for 30 years.
I've been up in the TV tower.
Wow, I'm 15 years, 13 for CBS now and more.
She's probably got a couple more before, you know,
the whole TV contracts change in another two more years after this year.
But, you know, we live in this digital era,
and I want to do some different things.
Why not?
I'm quite happy, you know, I enjoy being.
I figure and I've got so much to pass and I've done so much for junior golf
with my series and I want to push that hard but then for me personally it's like okay
because everything's done for them I mean the mega masses now it's digital you don't
have to have anybody around you to do digital stuff so we're actually going to try on
Thursday I'm going to I'm going to do a digital golf lesson we're going to go live you know
on periscope and all sorts of things and I'm going to give a golf lesson with and I'm
So I've got a couple of different subjects.
So one I'm calling formula Faldo.
So, you know, I've written books called Fowldo formula.
That was obviously the way I did it.
But now here we are 30 years later.
We understand so much more about the physical side of how to build a goal for now.
We understand the technical side, way better, obviously.
And then it's, of course, the mental side.
Now you can...
How different is all that stuff now from when you were playing?
Well, it wasn't any of it.
You know, we didn't absolutely opposite.
I was a complete, we were experimenters, i.e. when we were first started, we were told don't lift weights, which made sense. How can you go around a lift in a hundred pound weight and a golf, and you've got to do a little delicate little downhill left to right, six foot part? It kind of, so you didn't, you did a lot of cardio stuff. I was very strong cardio.
Like if you get too strong, you're going to lose your touch.
Yeah, exactly. We would, we would, and I would almost believe that. You told me that 40 years ago, you say you're right. You can't lift, go around pounding weights around.
because, as we know, here we are 40 years later, we understand the science.
And then there's guys here that have got doctor's degrees, master's degrees,
and all the, in the kinesology of how to build a golfer.
Fantastic.
So we were guessing, absolutely guessing in that year.
Of course, the golf swings completely changed.
You know, I used to hit 1,000 balls every morning,
and then walked to the first team, go and play the first hole.
And I didn't know where it was going to work or not.
Because I was doing it all on my own.
I didn't have a mirror.
I just was hitting golf balls.
purely on ballfly and this sort of thing.
Even that we didn't understand, God,
if I understood more that how
to read your own ball flight, to
really teach yourself with ball flight, again, we know
way more about that. And of course, now
we have these wonderful toys called
Track Man, and you only have to
get one golf ball and you'll get a factual
feedback. It will tell you you were
into, well, face was shut or rope
and da-di-da-da-da. It was amazing watching every guy
today walk in with their, it was like a briefcase
walking. It's 25 grand worth of toy
And everybody carries them in their, you know, they carry them as a hand luggage.
And they don't put that off.
It's a delicate bit of machinery.
But it is fantastic.
I love it because I get on that.
And you start trying, and then you start trying different equipment to match your golf swing.
And obviously, we've got a bit of feel and we can do things consistently enough.
Then we get feedback.
And you're like, oh, that shaft releases that impact slightly differently.
That's what I'm looking for.
I'm over one more height.
I was doing it the other day.
It's so funny.
I just tried a different sharp.
I come in quite steep, like five degrees down with my impact, with my impact on irons.
And so I'm always trying, you know, I always say a little less.
Well, I changed a shaft and suddenly it's two, two degrees.
I got rid of three degrees because I changed.
I didn't do anything different.
That was it.
See, isn't that amazing?
So you can build your clubs now to match you where we used to play either with a sack of anything,
Suckerspanes, as I used to call...
At one time, I had 14 clubs, I had 12 different clubs in the bag.
12 different blimming clubs, you know,
because you just tried it.
Oh, like that.
Stick with that one.
And so we adapted to the club,
where now we build the club to match us.
And then, of course, in the mental side,
it's so much, again, that was another era
where if you ever said,
oh, I need a sport psychologist,
everybody thought, oh, he's gone loco, he's done.
And it was deemed the negative.
Now, if you say, well, this is part of my team.
I've got a physical trainer,
I've got a coach and I've got a sports psychologist.
People go, hmm, watch out for him.
He's got his shit to go out.
Exactly.
So he's got his stuff.
So that's how it really has changed.
And we understand it as a science now.
It's not a guess.
This is factual information.
So I'm going to try and break.
So here, the other point of me teaching now is I'm next birthday, 62.
Don't forget, 18th of July.
We'll mark it down.
Yeah, make it.
Well, producer will write that.
Good man.
and I don't hit balls all the time
so I want what I call
what's my absolute must
when I go to the range
I go okay what do I need to get this bloody thing
airborne or I want what if it gets better than that
I'm going to so how do I hit high draws
how do I hit high phase load it
I like to maneuver the ball around and I think so what's the
minimum I need to do how I need to make my body
to work to make this happen and is it physical
is it technical is it a mental thing
to make this ball move around and so we
understand so much more.
So I think I can really pass on some really good information to golfers who just, you know,
they're not athletes, they've got their day job, you know, whatever it is,
they're ever sitting on a desk or behind a wheel or whatever it might be, and you've got to come
out and you want to get your body moving.
You want to play everybody, fortunately in golf wants to play better.
Right.
And you think, if I can help you just give you some, cut some corners and say, guys and
girls, you've got to do this.
You sure you might have to do it for a month to, to, you know, to, you'll be.
break it in, but promise you, rather than looking at a thousand and one, because I'm not,
and we, of course, we have so many different instructors out there now, and everybody's got to
sell their own way of communicating goal, and I start to think, boy, are we making it
complicated.
So I want to bring it all the way back down to let's call it the absolute must, so make life
nice and easy, and you think you can do, and you can do a few physical moves in your, in your
garage or your gym or whatever.
And you think, okay, I actually starting to get my body to swing like a golfer.
Yeah, because we, I mean, we're the average weekend hack, right?
Like, we played Bethpage two weeks ago.
We shot everything from 85 to 144.
Yeah.
So we legitimately.
We have no idea where we're doing.
No clue.
It's listening to you.
But the question kind of becomes, like, where do we start, right?
Like, you might go look at one instructor and he's teaching something for a PGA tour pro.
It's like, how can I relate to that?
So it's almost the question becomes, I might be.
I can promise you, there's so much more in the physical side where, you know, I see the good old moves, the good old over the top move.
And it's genuinely because the leg, you're not in an, you know, you're not in an athletic address position.
You don't know how to get your body in a ready position at a dress.
You make your back swings a bit weak.
You don't get the weight to move over it.
And you pull down because your arms are stronger, you know, and then you use your arms more than probably your legs and certainly your.
bleaks and all sorts of things and that's why you come over the top and it's all
soft your legs and from below the chest down your body's not doing enough let me write all that
down right quick well yeah i can give you i promise you we'll give you some really simple
core exercise and oblique exercise and a bit of quad and a bit of butt and you go okay guys
you've got to get this firing this activating try these moves and it's not and it's you know
it's take your medic medicine ball and chuck it against the wall or
do a few things and I promise you
it's so interesting because I can
feel it you know I do it obviously take it
to another level but I
know if you did some of these things
for a fortune you've got to do it for a month
there's no there's no shortcuts on that
you've got to do it but you
but if we gave you the right things and then so
suddenly when you stand over it and make a swing
go hmm I feel a little bit more
with it today a bit more athletic
you know got a bit more power right that's
rather than it's weak over the top you've got to know
what's causing what and that's it
and I think that's what we can help people on.
Identify what you are, what your style is.
Go and do a few of these exercises, a couple of swing thoughts,
and it can be simple things of understanding what the shoulders do
and how it affects the plane of the club.
And again, and then even sports, a little bit of sub-psychology.
I guarantee you guys, walk to the tea, and you go, don't hit it in the trees.
Oh, yeah.
And what do you see?
If I say don't hit in the tree.
I say don't hit in the trees.
10,000 feet wide.
We're in a forest.
Just playing golf in a forest.
There you go.
So we've got to change that picture for you.
It's all about pictures.
It's all about memories.
It's all about, you know, attaching emotion to memories, all that sort of thing.
So you learn to break the little patterns.
I hope you come out one day and go, okay, oh, there's the fairway.
I can see the trees.
Yes, I know the trees are there.
But I want to go down the fairway.
And now I've got my new Nick Faldo swing.
And it's going to plonky.
I want a new Nick Faldo swing.
There you go.
You have now made me a believer that I am going to be a good golfer.
Let's just all get Nick Fowler.
I am going to do, I tell you right now, I'm going to do whatever it takes to have a
Nick Fowl this one.
Yeah, good man.
I'm going to do whatever it takes.
Tune in.
We got one.
We got one viewer.
I mean, I'm in 100% in.
Chiching.
They're off and running.
So if I can get one to two, that's a hundred percent increase.
There you go.
Tell the world, my viewership.
Yeah, well, big numbers.
Big numbers podcast.
So you, of course, transitioned from, you know, you're playing days to broadcasting the CBS with
Jim NAN.
What's it like being up there with Jim Nance?
Well, luckily we got Jim Nance because he is unbelievable, isn't it?
I mean, that's his profession.
That's what he wanted to do as a kid when he was at Houston.
He sat there calling, you know, Fred Cuppels winning the Masters.
And so these people developed this great gift
about to talk about everything at this table and around him.
With no...
Jim's great.
He can talk about...
No hesitation, no deviation, no repetition about himself.
I mean, about golf all day long.
I see what you do, that.
I see.
Did you hear that?
Oh, yeah.
Jim, Jim has never walked past a mirror that he doesn't like.
But no, he's a wonderful man because he's, as I call him, he's our glue that sticks us together
because we've got a bunch of lunatics up there and me and Gary McCord.
And we all have him, Ian Baker Finch and Dotty, of course.
and we get carried away at times and he has to keep us together and you understand you know
people don't quite understand i never did in in life you think you think five seconds is a really
short period of time in your life if five seconds oh my god start panicking tv five seconds is
an unbelievably long amount of time he may not even be in the room with five seconds ago and i'm
thinking holy crap especially that we've had one year at the masters when everything went down
all the equipment went down.
And we get that occasionally, very rarely.
I mean, it's pretty darn good.
But occasionally we get a moment where I sit there and think people have got no idea.
They press their button.
They've got their remote.
They see a picture pop up.
They have no idea what happened behind that picture.
Right.
No clue.
And we can have all sorts going on.
And no, but he's brilliant.
And he has that unbelievable skill of just being able to ramble and talk about everything.
He's an encyclopedia of golf, which is a great.
help as well and um you know that was the job but that was the job that you know i started
uh which was a great start because i started with you remember abc we're in sport
i have first contract was a four-year contract with a bc and that's when mark lumas who's
was the director put paul a zing and i together and thought we have a three-man tower for the first time
well no i said the first time but to get two characters like zinger and i to kind of have a go at each other
and then put mike trico in the middle and then put mike tureka in the middle
as our ref
because Trico's fantastic as well.
Oh yeah.
Yeah, it's just, you know,
these guys.
Yeah, I mean, we both,
we were reminiscing of the story
how we first sat there next to him
and he's on his computer
reading the magazine with his Blackberry
and he was probably doing football.
And then, and you'd sit there and look at this guy
and then Lumas used to say, five,
and then sure enough the picture would come up
and Mike would just look up with the pictures
and every picture would change.
He'd actually preempt
what was coming and the crowds are coming in and this is happening and
and they weave you along and you sit and both I remember
zinging and our chins hit the table and thought holy crap this is how you do
TV so you could you sit there we sit there go up yeah
right right for quite a few years before you learn to spit it out
and he's running a whole different operation he's just brilliant they're just
they got that gift to that gab and then we come in and and you know I've enjoyed it
I'm just sit up there and call different times in our career,
oh, not our career, golfer's career is what's happening.
You know, I was way back started when we called Tiger winning, you know,
way back of Hoy Lake.
Right.
And when he was really in the Tiger Zen.
I remember saying it he's absolutely in the golfing Zen at that particular time.
And it was what we've been through.
And I course, hey, we just popped out the other end of the probably the greatest scenes
that we'll ever.
going to see, you know, Tiger winning 15th Augusta.
Yeah, as a broadcaster, what's it like being up in that booth, seeing him back on top of the world?
Did you ever think he would ever get to that place?
I didn't.
I didn't because, you know, I knew what, how, what happened, you know, 10 years ago at his private light?
I thought, you know, that's really going to wreck your concentration, your simple concentration,
your simple concentration and going to the range and beating balls all day long.
And they're looking at, you didn't have a phone then.
we left at six o'clock or something and went well that was a good day i did a good honest day's work
and i'm pleased as myself great and you went home now of course you got a blooming phone there
you look at this and i thought once that concentration's broken looking at a phone for whatever
reasons and you know it's kind of right along that and then obviously the you know the stress
of trying to play went into his body that caused all sorts of injuries and so he's fought that
and and then the swing really went the swing was not on you know people i was thinking about
Because obviously people, I've said for years, Tyke, will not win another major, right?
And then because people will then, luckily, after the way things happen, we're not luckily,
the way things then turned around with the back fusion, the way he started to play last year,
what he learned, and he was learning every week, and because the winner to Atlanta.
And I've even felt the match against Rory was important because he, to me,
really put himself in Sunday afternoon major mode.
in there because he goes to Augusta and then luckily by the time he got to
Gusto I thought do you know what
if he can hang at
Augusta with these guys
and just bide his time
everybody gets so wound
up at trying to win Augusta it's the most
nerve-racking major to win
because it's knife-edge
nerves because if you miss a green
you've got to hit the perfect chip
I mean at the open sure you can
my open you can miss
other greens and find
there's a couple of other options you
can thin it, fatty, maybe get away with something.
But August, you can't get away for anything.
If you cannot chip that ball off a super difficult light onto a circle,
seriously is not much bigger than two feet.
That's the only way it will break how you intend.
And then you've got to break this, chip this thing,
and it's going to break 12 feet, and then you've got to get it down inside six feet,
and then you've got to then hold that.
That's the nerve ends.
That's all you got to do.
And that's it all, yeah.
Yeah, and that's it.
But that's it's the other important thing.
There's no led up, Augusta.
It's not like, oh, you know, once you've scared yourself, you go to the next green and you go, okay, I can't miss this one short, I can't miss it left, can't miss it long, and I can't miss it right.
Okay, good start.
Right, start again.
Now, where am I going to hit this ball?
Seriously, that's what is that back nine like?
I mean, you won there three times.
We watch, right?
We're huge golf fans.
And when the leaders go, you know, they make it the back nine, they're teed off on 10 in the back nine.
You have no idea.
We get chills.
I mean, what does it like for you?
Well, we have to then hit the, we've got to strike the ball perfectly
because we know that if you flinch and you pull it at 10,
and off it goes there, and you cannot pull it at 11.
You obviously know what goes wrong at 12,
and you know where you can't block it at 13,
and you can't come up short of 14.
You can get me, we all know all that.
The great thing about the masses,
you know all the blam and treacherous spot,
so that adds the pressure.
Right.
Because you've seen it, and you've seen guys,
everybody's done it right in for either,
You've done it or somebody does it right in front of your nose or you watch you on TV.
Somebody's collapsed at the wrong time, you know,
or played that wrong shot at the wrong time.
So you've seen all that.
So, you know, I then thought, if Tiger could hang,
everybody's going to be so wound up.
He knows what he's doing.
And it really did unfold out.
I actually said it after he came off the first green on Sunday.
I said, if he plays this like a marathon,
if I was running a marathon, I'd run on the guy's shoulder all the way.
And then we've had a bit of power in my mind.
me, I would zip in front.
And I thought, yeah, that's the way to do it.
Seriously, I let somebody else do all the heavy lifting.
I thought, let everybody drag you along.
If you're obviously got to be good enough to shoot the same scores and be there.
But it did.
That's how it panned out.
He then, they hit it in the water at 12.
He knew what to do.
And then from then on, his real competitive juices kicked in.
You know, he hit every shot perfect on the way in.
And that, for me, was amazing.
So going back to what you said,
So when I used to say he's not going to win,
we were kind of right because the swing he had and the mental state he was in,
he was not going to win.
So when people say to me, I'll go, your words, Feldo, you know, you're a tiger hated.
I go, yeah, but hang on a minute.
Five years ago, we were actually really right.
He couldn't flip the foot switch.
He couldn't.
Everybody said, oh, Tiger's going to flip the switch this week.
Well, they didn't flip the switch for 10 years.
And I think even more amazing is it freaking hell.
After 11 years are not winning a major.
I don't know how he musters up to have.
the bottle to really think he's still got to have the bottle and then what he shots he then hit
at you know at um 16 and and even coming in the last all that all that bat nine you've still
got to stand up and hit it so even the drive on 17 because he's yeah he's prone he's prone to
hit those right yeah or left you've only got to tweak it touch you in the trees the other thing
which was amazing he you know Thursday and Friday hitting the trees on 13 sorry 14 and makes two
threes.
I was on the call doing that.
The one when he hit through the bloody, you know, the window.
I'm saying that window left the woods, his name.
And he, because he hits it through, 15 feet, makes it part.
Unbelievable.
And then, of course, and then Saturday and Sunday really got away with it at 11.
He hit in the trees, and it went all the way through to the patrons walkway.
Yeah.
And he makes two fours.
So if any of that had gone wrong, clipped a tree or stymie, you know, it would have been a different
story.
But that's how the synchred destiny of a victory transpiring, isn't it?
It has to go right for you, or you make it go right.
So it was an incredible week.
It really, we wouldn't, as I said, we would never quite see another week like that.
And the brakes, I mean, the brakes are huge.
In 2013, he hits the pin, it goes in the water, he ends up losing, you know, by three or four.
So you've got to get the breaks on that.
I do.
One of my favorite, you know, memories from the whole week was, I believe Sunday and I, you
tweeted out a picture.
of Tiger, kind of alone on the golf course.
Oh, yeah, before I got there.
I came in on Saturday.
The Saturday before I come in, because I get a great day.
I play with my son, Matthew.
We have our own day there.
I'm allowed to, as a champion, I'm allowed to bring a guest.
So I take my son.
And so we have our own little day there.
And we went in on Saturday night.
No, it was Sunday.
You're right.
It was Sunday.
After we'd finished, we'd go and play the pathway.
I came back out.
We were standing.
I was showing people my tower.
And then Tiger comes down nine.
And I thought it was really kind of you sensed that moment.
There he was there, all on his own, just him and Joey chipping away.
And he took the putter and a couple of wedges.
He walked nine holes, just chipping, just get yourself into Masters mode.
And it's funny, that was kind of the moment when you looked to him and thought,
hmm, you never know.
And that's when I tweeted that, where will he be next Sunday night?
And it blim and hell, he was last one off the golf course.
To be honest, when that tweet came across our time,
We all went, oh, you see her next to you.
Yeah, I got something like, yeah, you kind of sense some.
He kind of sense it was the perfect timing for him as well.
If he's going to win majors, he's just got to stay mega fit in April.
I'm not sure about the other ones.
I mean, this one this week on this golf course, I mean, you cannot hit it in the thick stuff at all.
You hit in the thick stuff.
You have to play great to make fives, actually make bogeys.
You have to play really smart to make a bogey here.
When I played here, whatever it was, moons ago, I made that my role, my goal.
If I hit in the thick stuff, I chopped it out.
And I said, right, just play for a bogey now.
Just be smart.
And I'd hit it in the middle of the green, and I lucked out a few times.
I hold a few 20, 25 footers for par.
But if you go for it on the third, because then you miss the green, chip back, miss it again,
sixes and sevens, and you think, all it was one bad shot.
Yeah.
So you've got to be really smart just to take your medicine,
and move on, and I think that's the way the guys
are describing
the golf course this week as well.
So being up in the booth, what's like
the biggest blooper you've ever had?
Oh, gosh, I don't.
Fortunately, I haven't had,
I haven't had, obviously, none of them really register.
I've really made a conscious effort.
It's like a necklace movie.
You don't remember.
Yeah, exactly.
I don't remember the win.
I'm sure, you know, I've had a,
you say the old clothes thing,
Because, you know, everything in golf is going to be an innuendo, can't you have to be very careful on that.
But no, but I made a strict rule when I went up there.
I don't understand politics.
I don't understand religion at all.
And I said, I'm not going to get involved with any of that.
I'm just going to go out on tall golf.
Keep it on the straight and narrow.
And I've kind of done that.
And I thought I'd be, I like to jest with the guys.
Some guys I don't know, and I might, some people might think.
I think I'm taking the Mickey out of them, but I, I use, I deem it more as an affectionate way.
If I start teasing with some believe, if I don't, it's because I like them.
Right.
I like to think of it.
I do think of that way.
I like to rib them a bit and, you know, and sometimes these poor petals, these emotional petals are having a rough day, you know.
They're just soft.
Some of them are soft.
Yeah, what's that word?
A pedal?
You know, delicate petal.
Soft on.
I see.
What you say that.
You know, so I just try to, I mean, and I try to get up.
an entertainer. The other important thing to remember is the show. So get up there and entertain.
I mean, if I can entertain myself for four hours, that's number one. I'm an only child. I'm
selfish. So if I can entertain myself and then hopefully every, and the feedback I get from the fans,
the public is fantastic. Everybody comes up and says, you know, I watch you players of golf.
You were all right. Well, you're all right in the tower as well. Not bad. That's what they say.
Compliments.
What little, were there any little things that you did?
You were a fierce competitor.
Any little things you would do during a round to try to gain an edge on your competitors?
The only way I believe to gain any edge, and it's funny, somebody was talking about,
I used to like to send the message that I'm all right, mate.
So I used to stand and fold my arms, cross my arms, which apparently, you know,
some people could be intimidated about it, especially club goals, especially when I do pro-ams
or exhibitions.
I stand on the tea right next.
to them and I crossed my arms like I stand and look at it and then I can see their hands going
so I know I've still got that effect but some of the pros obviously you're like I still got it
still got it yeah and but back in the the golfing day it was like you had to send the message
that hey I could handle this I'm all right under this pressure inside I might be churning but you
had to give that you had to put that performance face on and pretend if you had to pretend that
that I can handle it
and that's how I used to
how I wanted to do it
and you know with golf
you have to have so much
concentration and discipline
and do your own thing
you've got to stay with it
you've got to stay
and I again I believe
the only way to play
golf
was be totally engrossed
in it can really be concentrating
on yourself
and you know
that kind of forged
people having a
perception of me
that I was like that all the time
that you know he must be a right miserable get
that you know all he does is you know
head down and hit
golf balls so but no
I I never could
obviously
and some people think I've invented
this personality 20 years
later and it was no it was
kind of like no I believe that the only
way to play was head down blinkers on and I did
that and and
I wish yeah I agree
I have a very enviable quality
be able to concentrate that hard.
Some people would say, you know, it wrecks your personal life or whatever, but no.
But I wish I'd been able to have more fun, but I didn't know how.
Because if I've got that mental strength, I could have been able to bounce in and out, you know, have to interact with the crowd a bit more.
And then when you get to the golf bag, you hit that mental start button and off you go.
But, you know, I never, I never, I struggled with that.
Was there any one moment that stands out where the most nervous you've ever been on the golf course?
Yeah, yeah.
You know, Ryder Cup really winds you up because you're playing for the guys and the team.
And, yeah, I've had a couple of them, you know, a guy wasn't playing well at the Kiwa Island.
Couldn't find it.
You know, you couldn't, couldn't find it.
And I had to play it.
And I think I asked to be first off.
I wanted to be first off to get out there and get on with it.
And I, God, I couldn't sleep that night.
I'm up at 4 o'clock.
I mean, there are brutal weeks those weeks.
You know, you're playing 36 holes.
You literally golf, eat, sleep, golf, eat.
That's all you do.
Right.
So that one was, I was really nervous because I knew the importance of that.
And then the one that, Oak Hill, was one I do describe, you know, when I play Curtis Strange,
our match ended up being like the 11th match.
So if, and I was one down with two to play, and if I turned that around, we basically gave us the cushion to win the rider cup.
And I came down that last hole and I got that 93-yard wedge shot.
It's my third.
And as I dressed the ball, my knees honestly went doing.
They went like rubber.
They went, oh, I haven't felt that before.
And luckily you were able to walk away from it and collect yourself because you know what you're doing, calm yourself down.
Have a, never practice swing.
Reset your focus and stood up and hit a great shot.
But, but, rider cup's the one.
It was the first time I stomach churned, when I played my very first rider cup,
and my first time I stomach churned for all 18 holes.
Yeah, really, really, it's quite something.
In your, in your, in your, in your, in your, in your, in your, in your stock seven iron go?
Yeah, good, good, um, we were probably only stock seven iron, be around 160.
Yeah, it really would.
160. Yeah, I was, I was tweeting.
Brooks Kepka's seven iron saying,
I'm two clubs behind history quarter seven.
So we just had him on. What did he say?
He said 200, seven iron, stock seven iron, but he said,
I thought on my phone, I even took a picture of it.
I even took, you know, what do you call that, freeze frame,
whatever, they call that, put me a thing.
I thought, oh, I'm going to go home and see if I can get closer to those numbers.
So,
screenshots.
Just a screen shot.
There we go.
Nailed it.
His modern thing.
Screen shots.
He said if he really steps out and he can't hit it
220 if he needs to,
his seminar.
They can.
They can absolutely nuke it.
But they rarely do that.
You don't want the ions to do it.
The skill is to hit your irons the exact distance.
Right.
If you have a number,
the skill is to land it on a number,
not just Mueller, the blemmy thing.
Right.
Just a bit of, oh, you're a seven.
So.
That's a.
It doesn't matter.
You want to land the skill is to say, I will land it $195.
And the thing goes, you walk down the ninja divot at $194.5.
That's more impressive to me.
Last question.
What do you consider, if you look back, like the single best shot, greatest shot.
I know that one.
I see that the three-in I hit a Muirfield 92 because, you know, that's four to win the open.
And I walked off the 17th green, and I knew that.
I saw the scoreboard.
I've got four to, and it's a blamming long walk from the 17th green to 18th.
It's like 80, blam in seven paces or something.
And I said on every single pace, four to win, four to win, four to win, four to win.
Honest, I did.
And then I hit this t-shirt down the fairway, and then I got, it was three-iron,
and it was good old Scottish weather.
They had a right-left win.
I only had 197 to the whole, but, you know, back in that era, you know, soft golf ball,
all that sort of thing.
That was a three-iron shot.
And I nailed it, and I took the paintwork off the flag as it went past it,
about 20 feet behind it, two putty down, and I won the open.
So that is a, that's a different kind of pressure.
That's, I mean, you know that you've stood up, that's about the ultimate in the 18th hole,
four to win.
That is nice to know.
It's like any sport, you know, Tom Brady knows he can throw it, you know,
with five seconds ago, and Jordan or Steph Curry now these guys,
Right.
What they can do from one or two seconds to go.
That's our one and two seconds.
Last shot, 18th hole at a major.
If you can draw it, just get the thing back.
It's a pretty tough.
Good start.
I'm always amazed that when you guys talk about these types of shots,
and it's like you guys always know the exact yardage,
the landing spot, the win.
Yeah, we do.
Well, that's out.
Well, because you attach your memory to it, obviously.
I mean, I, shots happen.
We've hit millions of shots, thousands in tournament shots.
But obviously the really special ones that you attach a memory and emotion to it.
Well, yeah, they're ingrained in it.
They're really part of you can relive those any time of the day, which is a pretty darn cool thing.
It's amazing.
Well, Sir Nick Faldo, the special Sir Nick takes off the Armour 1pm on CBS this Saturday before the coverage.
Keep up the great work out there.
We appreciate it.
Appreciate Fowland.
All time voices in that booth, Nancy Fowler.
I think it's got to be the best voice duo of all time.
I mean, I can't think of any.
That's incredible.
Yeah, we work pretty well together.
We try to dovetail in between each other.
And yeah, you're learning all the time.
As you know, TV and web is.
You've got to trying to get better all the time and more concise.
So it's a great.
It's a fun.
I'm glad I'm up there.
Because I never thought I would want to be up there.
but to still be involved in golf in that sense,
especially calling the majors is really cool
because you really get, you know,
because I can really feel,
I sit there with sweaty palms, you know,
when they go on playoffs and all that sort of,
gym will make fun of me.
He says, has your palms,
and I'm going, yeah, look at me, I'm sweating up.
I know what it means.
When a guy's exactly how to describe,
when a guy comes to those last couple of holes,
there's a knife edge between great shot winning
and a bad shot costing you it.
Unfortunately, I've been there so I can feel it.
And even some of those videos,
they've put out of you guys, you know, when somebody has a chip to try to force a playoff and it, like, barely lips out.
And then they show those videos of you guys in the booth.
You're like jumping up and down every time.
It's like you're living and dying.
Yeah, we go, Mike, why not?
You've got to go with the, that's the other important thing.
You've got to go with the, that was one of the goals I set for myself as again is in the towers.
Go with what's happening out there.
If a guy's hit a fantastic show, you've got a scream and shout of it.
You go, nothing worse when an analyst goes, the guy hits a three wood over the trees to 10 feet.
well it was a very nice three were there from two
so hard
and said
you don't want that
do you
he wants somebody to scream and have a laugh
and that's why I like Gary
we have a nutty five minutes
when Gary goes off the charts
and we need that
he can't talk all for four hours
your impersonations of people walking up to you
or saying things are all times
it's like the way you impersonate like other people
you're like well you don't want to do
I do that again I think I love it
I hope they think it's a combo because I do have accents all the time with all the South African boys.
I go like, oh, come in a lot, you know, you Mubi-Oke.
And I go straight into myself.
It's so funny.
My very first week, my very first week at ABC, Lange's putting, you know, on the green.
And because I go, yeah, well, Bernhardt has just calculated the density, the moisture density on the greens.
You see?
Monday, I get a phone call.
call and he says
we've got
a Buick dealer
a German Buick dealer who's
do you know Bernard I said well of course I know
Berno I play write a cut with him
he said we have one person's complained
at your I said you're joking
I said what do we have to do we have to apologize
I really I said so what does Robin Williams do
that was my argument I said what is Robin
I said well you know and so the funny
bit about that was when I said well you don't want me
doing any German accent so what I said what when I
when I do my my Bob Tom
I said, yeah, that's a great shot that lad.
He could put that in a big of the hole.
He said, what about that?
Oh, he can do that one, he says.
You're like, well, what are we doing here?
I said, and I do my British ones.
I like, you know, I love to do, you know, I love to do,
I do Colonel Bertie, of course.
Of course.
And I try to do very British Colonel Bertie.
And then I do Gaza, Gaza from down the market.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yep.
Yeah.
So he said, oh, you can do those, but you can't make fun of a Bernard and his German accent.
I thought, okay.
So that was moons ago.
I love it
That's incredible
Thanks for this hard
You know
Yeah we need to
You can call me a
What is it?
Delicate pedal
Because I haven't touched this
I'm a little too soft for this
I'm too soft
You're too soft
Have you looked in me
Hand you over here
All that all that
All that's up
Hey

Give it over here

He doesn't have any hair on his face.
No, I don't.
That stuff is radioactive to me.
I can't touch it.

Sir Nick Fowellis.
This is a great time.
We very much appreciate it.
Thanks for coming to my restaurant.
I got my dad sitting over there.
I think this may be one of the top,
maybe the top person I ever come into this restaurant.
Have you had a night in it before?
No.
First night.
First night in Borrelli's restaurant.
I love it.
We need a night on the wall.
You're right.
The first night at Borrelli's.

There you go.
Thank you, sir.
We appreciate it.
That's great.
Cheers.
