Hey, 4Play listeners, you can find us every Tuesday and Thursday on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube.
Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music.
We have the second episode of our travel series, Pinehurst number eight.
Everybody's rocking their gear.
We've got hats.
We've got sweatshirts.
We've got shirt, t-shirts, polos, hoodies.
Frankie's got his new Pinehurst number two flag right behind him.
It is Pinehurst time officially on the travel series.
It's going to be 8 p.m.
tonight, if you're listening on Tuesday, which is May 12th, 8 p.m.
We're going to do a live drop.
You can watch the entire episode.
It's similar to the Tobacco Road one in pretty much every way, except now we're taking
you to Pinehurst.
We're going to the historic, the iconic Pinehurst Resort.
We're starting at Pinehurst number eight, which is kind of a sanctuary.
It's about a four-minute drive down the road.
It's a 1995.
Tom Fasio, the Centennial.
They did it as the 100-year anniversary of Pinehurst being found in 18.
We hit you with some history.
Then we hit you with Pinehurst number eight,
snakes, wildlife, wetlands,
Pinehurst greens.
It's fucking awesome.
I'm very excited.
It's Pinehurst time, boys.
Yeah.
I'm Jack.
Let's stop for one second and let's comment on Frankie's mustache because that
is.
It actually looks good.
Like I know when you grew it out for the Islanders playoff run last season,
it was a nightmare and everyone,
you sent people screaming into their houses and,
and boarding up their doors.
But like when you just try to do the mustache,
it actually looks like a legitimate mustache.
It looks like a little Jack Sparrowy, like in my eyes.
I look like Chris Kreider.
Yeah, you do Crider, kind of like the Crosby a little bit.
But even, yeah, where you kind of.
I mean, listen, it's like right here's a little weak,
but like it's coming, it's like you can see that there's a mustache there,
which is all week.
It's not strong anywhere.
Like, no, it's, no, it isn't strong anywhere.
It's stronger than I thought it was going to look, given the evidence from like 18 months.
Dude, like, from right here, you could be, you could just tell.
I can just like, I can just like, I can like, I just have a mustache.
Like, like a week ago or two weeks ago, you're like, what is like, like, yeah, it's a weak mustache, but like it's something.
Right.
It's something.
It's better.
It's like you said about my shaved head.
You're like, it's better, but it's not, it's still not like a legitimate look.
You can't call that like a real look.
It looks ridiculous, but it's better.
Not to put you in the cross.
but it looks like you went, you're going no beard and shaved head.
You're going to get arrested.
I have a beard.
It looks like Voldemort.
Kind of.
I feel like you got to keep the lower path dark and then if you're going to go bald up top.
Yeah.
All I trimmed it,
it was getting a little ridiculous.
It's like when it starts to curl over your lips and stuff, you know, the beard.
I know is that I grew out this mustache with perfect time to get this trucker hat from
Pioneers because this thing's like an old school 19, like 70s logo.
I got this dirty stash on top of my lip.
Looks like I got a little mud up there.
I'm ready to rock, man.
Do I look like Baltimore?
What's this picture?
Yeah, a little bit, bro.
Yeah, a little bit.
Man, what is this fucking screenshots that eBug just sent us?
That's not great.
It's you.
My mustache not's feeling.
My mustache's not looking as good there.
What was I going to say?
So we released the teaser for Pioneers,
and it's just the most dramatic.
tingling in the groin type thing.
I mean, with the boom and passionly being like, can you feel it?
It's like everything about that fucking trailer makes me want to just dive head first into the screen.
Yeah, even our text group was getting a little sexual last night.
We were kind of dropping like, ooh, that made me tingle.
That made me feel a certain way.
So I'm sure people were jacked up after seeing the teaser.
Pioneer's number eight.
I think it's cool because a lot of people don't know what taught about Pioneer number eight.
You might have like poked around and seen a lot about Pioneer number two.
you might have done the same thing about number four.
We've talked about number four in this show a lot.
So you might know Cradle, number four, number two.
Number eight is kind of it's out there.
It feels like you're not at Pinehurst.
It feels like you're at, you could be anywhere.
You could be in like Florida or Michigan.
I even forgot because like we went out there this weekend.
I played it for the first time since we were there in November.
And I was like, holy shit.
I'd forgotten about this golf course, about the back nine.
When you go around those wastelands, it's just really, really cool.
It's very different than.
sort of some of the other things you see at Pioneers, yet it's part of Pioneers,
and there's a history behind it.
And Pashley talks all about that.
So Pioneer's number eight tonight, Tuesday night.
People should be excited.
Travel show you go to Foreplay Golf on YouTube or you go to the website.
We're going to have a whole, I think it's 36, 37 minutes long, and it's very good.
I'm excited.
I mean, as a viewer who knows pretty much as much as the listeners do, I can't wait, like I know a little bit more,
but I can't wait to watch it.
I'm so excited.
I mean, well-doubt to Jake and E-Bug, because you guys have put in a lot of lots of years and that's along with all you guys.
But I'm super excited for it.
Yeah, Larch, it's incredibly informative this one, I feel like we're like, like, Tobacco Road was as well.
But Tobacco Road is such a more like you didn't know that that golf course ever existed.
I feel like you know that Pioneer's exists if you're a golf fan.
But like, like, Briggs was saying, like, Pinehurst number eight's that one that like,
we need to spend a little more time showing you the nooks and crannies of it because it doesn't have the history that, like,
Pioneer Number 2 does and it doesn't get as much play as Finer's number four.
So this one has more of like, we're going to take you slow from T to Green and show you a golf course like for the first time that like when you come to Pioneerce and you book your buddy's trip.
This should be one of your, uh, the courses that you play because we want to show you every little nook and cranny of it.
Like five number two, we can get around like going through the whole historic stuff, right?
You can talk about fucking Payne Stewart and like all and Donald Ross on shit.
Like no one knows what Pioneer number eight is.
Right. Like I played two and four and, you know, I'm excited to see more of eight.
The other thing I'm super excited to see and listen to is just let Pashley talk.
Just let that all, let that man sing out of his mouth of how he talks about like the history,
his love for Pinehurst and everything that like, yeah, I mean, I just can't wait to hear him
talk about all of his points.
And I don't know who, I know Ebug edited it and I know that Jake filmed it, but like whoever
didn't like put any coloring on my body is like insane right like I watched the first version of
of this with my girlfriend we were like just sitting there like trying to take down notes of what we
wanted to change or whatever and like we both couldn't get past how white I was in this video
well the point where I stopped she's turned on by dead people by dead people but to the point where
like I legitimately couldn't watch the video anymore like I it was it's grotesque how white I am I am I'm wearing a white
t-shirt in this video, a white
college shirt, I am whiter than
the shirt. Would you ever wear a white
shirt again? No.
You would think that it would be better
to wear a white shirt because any sort of
complexion looks darker than the white shirt.
But it in fact is
darker on my shirt than it is on my arm.
I noticed that in the promo big time.
When it pans to you, I was like, whoa.
It was like they somebody just... Couldn't hit me with a
fucking colorization at all. Like
no, no, no hue
saturation on that bitch. Like you can't
give me anything. You can't go on the saturation bar and just give me a little red,
nothing, not even a little pink. We're just keeping it real, Frankie. Just got to be authentic.
No, there's something wrong. Dude, this is so white that there's something wrong with the camera.
Oh, it's the camera. Oh, right. Dude, no one is a whitening camera. It's a whitening camera. It's like
toothpaste. Yeah, you guys should have checked my fucking pulse at this. Well, Frankie, the big thing is
that you're wearing a white t-shirt. It was very sunny outside. And, you know, when you're filming golf,
you kind of have to manage the exposure
decently and we're trying to show off the golf course
we're not trying to show off your
complex.
Yeah.
Okay.
Listen,
when you guys watch this video,
all the listeners,
you are going to be stunned at how white I am.
It's stunning.
I think, no,
no, no, no, no,
it's stunning.
They know I'm white,
but this is stunning.
Like, I haven't,
look at me right now.
I have some redness to my face.
I'm dead in this video.
Is your mic give off one of the,
those red lights like mine does.
Is that what that is?
Is that why you're?
Yeah,
you look like you actually got like a healthy complexion going on right now.
You're not dead.
You do.
You do.
Do you toy with that lighting?
Is that what you did in there?
No,
I didn't do anything.
I'm in darkness.
Nice hat.
I like your hat a lot.
The hat is so sweet.
It's so sweet.
That looks good.
Okay.
We got some golf to,
to get to a quick reminder for folks,
a couple quick reminders.
One,
rate,
subscribe on iTunes.
Give us five stars,
please.
We think we deserve it.
Write a little note.
say hello, tell us why you like this show, make fun of us.
We really don't care.
Just leave us five stars.
That would be great.
And then also go get yourself, go order yourself some Owens mixers.
We got the ability now that we've never had before, which is to just become a phenomenal cocktail maker, one who is known amongst his or her group of friends as the guy, the gal that you point to when you're thirsty, when you've got the liquor, but you don't have the capability to make a good cocktail, to make a good.
drink from that liquor. You point to that guy, that guy's now you, and you say, hey, we're going
to put it in your hands. We want a mule. We want a margarita. We want a paloma, which you want
to Lurch's favorite drinks. Owinsmixers.com, barstool 15. You get 15% off. That's how you become
this expert cocktail maker that I'm discussing. You just pour it in, right? So you take your tequila,
or you take your vodka, whatever your gin, your liquor of choice. And then you can either
get the ginger beer and lime, the mint cucumber and lime, the grapefruit and lime, or the tonic water and lime, pour it in with some ice.
Boom, we've got yourself an A-plus and elite cocktail. Barstool 15, Owensmixers.com.
That's how you make these cocktails.
You're going to love it.
We promise.
Owens is 100% non-alcoholic, no artificial flavors, no sweeteners, none of that stuff.
15% off, Barstool 15.
You can mix it up at home with Owens Mixers.
Thank you for supporting us.
Owens is phenomenal.
you're going to love it.
Okay.
We've got a couple things coming up here in the next couple weeks.
We've got the Matthew Wolf, Rory, Ricky, DJ match.
We've talked a little bit about that.
Mike Tariko is going to kind of be on that call.
Then we've got the Tiger, Phil.
The shit talking is starting to really pick up.
They did like the Zoom.
There's been the Zoom call.
There's been other little leaks of chirping that's going on.
Phil leaked this little tidbit of information,
which we kind of talked about, I think,
two months ago in the whispers of this.
thinghole started of its alternate shot. So Phil said because we don't have caddies because of
COVID-19, Tom Brady and I will talk about each shot and sort of beat each other's caddies,
which I think will be the coolest part of this match. I think so too because as much as I want there
to be chirping, it always feels a little forced, even with the Zoom call with all four of them
where Phil's like, oh, look at this picture of you putting the green jacket on
me and then Tiger's like, oh, look, I'm chilly.
I'm going to put this green jacket.
It's more, it feels like a skit that they clearly had planned out.
Peyton chirping Tom Brady, that shit was actually pretty good.
That stuff I like.
So I'm less interested in the chirping, although I know that's what people want,
but I am more interested in them being each other's caddy because that will be
super interesting.
Yeah, anytime you get kind of player caddy chit-chat back and forth on the PGA tour,
we always say, Mike them up.
Get in there.
Get in there.
Ferity.
Just run right in there.
hold your mic right in front of those two while they talk about the shot.
You know,
the moment between Tiger and Stevie Williams and the 08 U.S.
Open when they were going back and forth and Tiger's like,
I think the window's too small.
If I hit the 56,
I have to bounce it in there.
And then he's like,
I'm going to just juice a 60 degree.
And Steve's like,
is that what you're doing?
He's like,
that's what I'm doing.
You're like,
fuck yeah,
that's what he's doing.
Like all that type of interaction.
And now you're going to sort of elevate it because you're going to have both players.
You're going to have Tiger,
you know,
trying to chat with Peyton about like how he,
thinks he could get the ball into a good place where Tiger can then do his thing and hit really
good shots. I don't think that like are Peyton and Tom going to be like, hey, Tiger, I think here
you should you should really try to leave this one a little left of the hole. I don't know how that's
going to work out. But they could. It could be like, Tiger could be like, hey, I, you know, I've got a
squirly lie here. I can't really get this on the green on a par five. But would you rather,
would you rather be, you know, 70 yards out with a wedge or would you rather be in that green side bunker?
shit like that could be fascinated.
Yeah, I think, like, I'm interested if Tiger or Phil, like, talked down to their partners
at all, just because if it's a par five and it's, like, kind of in go zone where it's, like,
245 out, like, I could get a three wood there, and they're confident players, but, like,
there's obviously a big miss that happens with that shot, too.
So I'm very interested to see that banter because you're talking about four supremely
confident people, but, like, there is a situation.
strategic play that probably they should lay up every time because then they'll be able to hit
a wedge somewhere very close and take away that that big miss. But then you're telling like
a phenomenal world class athlete to take like his athletic like skill level and confidence down.
So I think that dynamic and that banter will be really, really interesting to watch and listen
to. Yeah, I think that's going to be tremendous. Who do you think's going to win? Like who's
Tiger Woods
Yeah
Any team with Tiger Woods on it wins
Hey do you think you playing around with Tiger Woods
If he's your caddy
It makes you significantly better player
Like us or do you think
Like I don't know that he makes a different
I want to think he makes different
Difference for me but like I still
Like unless he can
Unless he can put his arms where my arms are
Like I don't think it's going to make that much of a difference
He can tell me all day
Yeah hit it over there hit it over there
And it's just not going to make that much of a difference
I think caddies make a significant difference for an elite level player where you can say hit it 163 or you can say hit it 165 or hit a fade into this green or hit a draw into this green because you know the grain and you know all that shit.
Like they understand how to compute all that stuff.
So a better caddy is better suited for that level of player.
But if Tiger Woods tells me to hit a fade into a 160 fucking green, I look at him and be like, I don't know, man.
You want to just give me an autograph or something?
Like we both know where this, we both know where this ball's going and it's not going to be where you just said it.
So let me just smack it.
Let me try and make contact because you standing next to me makes me want to
shit my pants.
So, like, actually, I think I may play worse.
I think I may play worse.
It's sort of like how, like, the greatest baseball headers of all time,
they can never be hitting coaches because they're like, no, just do this.
And you're like, I can't do that.
I'm not Barry Bonds.
Like, you're telling me to do something that's not within my range of talent.
Dude, Jeff Bagwell, and I know it's a federal crime, whatever, to even say that name,
but Jeff Bagwell has been on record saying,
do not copy my stance if you're a baseball player.
He goes to people's like, like, he'll, like, go to instructional places and say,
don't hit the ball like me because it's ridiculous to be this spread out and then think to make
contact.
Like, I got lucky the way I hit the ball.
It's everything that I do from the time I go to make contact is wrong.
It's just, yeah, I became a really good baseball player.
But the debate isn't like should Tiger Woods be your swing coach during the round?
It's like should Tiger Woods be your caddy?
Would that help you?
I think every caddy at every resort, resorts debates and would argue heavily that they save more
strokes for the average weekend amateur hack than they do for the PGA Tour Pro.
Like Tiger Woods going out with the caddy, his score is almost not going to change at all.
He knows like his caddy isn't giving him shit and information out there that he didn't already
know.
Like if his caddies like hit at 15 feet left of the pin, Tiger isn't like, wow, that was a great
idea.
I didn't know that.
Whereas I think the average amateur, the caddy could be like, no, no, don't aim right
down the middle of the fairway.
You think that aim towards the right.
Your tendency happens to be, you know, you're pulling shots.
So if you're going to hit one right or on this one instead of like going right at the pin,
trust me, chip out to the left, put it up.
And instead of making an eight, we're going to make a six.
That's completely fine.
And you add that up over 18 holes.
They think that most caddies at resorts would argue they save more strokes for the average
weekend golfer than they do for the elite golfers because the elite golfers could just go out there
on autopilot and pretty much shoot the same score no matter what.
Yeah, I agree with that.
I think that like the professional caddy is more just talking a professional out of like the bad decision.
like if they get super confident you're trying to bring them back to like neutral a little bit.
I don't even think that's the argument though.
It's more, I think Tiger would help me in a round.
But if I had to play around with Tiger in an alternate shot,
the mental thought is that I am just letting this guy down.
I am just continually letting this guy down and I would play worse as far as I'm concerned.
Yeah, you don't want that pressure, man.
I just know that I'm making our score worse continually.
I know I can't help.
When I find out that my catty is a good golfer, whenever we play at one of these resorts
or good places, I play thousand times worse.
Like, I'd rather you say you never played the game.
You just know the game.
Like some of like the older guys, like the older Jamaican dudes that'll like go out there
and be like, you know, I've just been here my whole life.
I don't, I'm not a player.
Like, I just watch the game.
Like, I feel so much better at that because I know that they can't be judging me every swing
I have.
Like, they just know where to go.
They know the decisions.
That's why the only reason I bring up like.
Tiger wouldn't make me better.
He's like, yeah, like, caddies in general make you better.
But does Tiger Woods, like, knowing,
is Tiger Woods being the best golfer of all time?
Like, does he add that much more value than just, like,
having the common knowledge of where to hit it around a course
that a regular caddy could give you?
Like, does it add that much more?
I think it actually goes the other way that he is so good
that you actually play worse than you would with, like,
your regular, like my guy Logan at Pinehurst.
Yeah.
Give me Logan all day because I know me and him are like the same person.
Tiger Woods is a mythical creature being like,
I can't believe this kid just hit it into the first pond at Palmetto.
Like, why are we even walking out here?
Yeah, it's Wayne Gretzky trying to coach being like, no, no, just like, do,
just do this.
And then you're going to have all this space.
And people are like, no, I can't just do that.
If I could, then I fucking would.
And I'd do Wayne Gretzky.
But instead, I just can't.
And now I suck.
So is this fucking tweet already out about my facial hair?
Because Robbie Fox just texted me and goes, bro,
do I have to drive to Long Island and sit down to you face to face?
to talk about the absolute monstrosity
that is your facial hair right now?
Or will this text suffice?
You're very welcome.
That's out already?
I didn't know that.
It's not that, dude, it's not that bad, right?
Like,
the fact that you have to say, is it that bad?
I actually don't think it's better.
Like, my expectation was so low
that it really important on that.
And that's what it comes down to.
What a fucking tweet with Michael Jordan laughing?
It's so bad.
Yeah, that doesn't look great.
I remember when we were at Paso
and just kind of reverted back to what Frankie was saying,
like when you find out how good a cat,
like how good a golfer your cat he is,
I forget what hole it was, but it was a par three.
And we're like, yeah, go ahead and hit a T shot.
And the dude just threw one to like four feet.
And it's like, all right, I'm just going to play like shit the rest of the day.
Yeah, because you do feel like your, like he's now looking at you.
Like you are completely helpless.
Nothing that I can say is ever going to help you because I've watched you play, and I know how to do it,
and I know that you don't, under any circumstances, know how to do it.
Right.
When you feel like you're the governor or the limit on the team, it sucks.
Like when he's like, oh, no, this is the knowledge and I have the skill set as your caddy to do it.
But like you, the person acting are actually the limit of like the potential of this team.
It always makes me worse.
Always.
Yeah. So I don't know.
I mean, if you could get over the fact that it's Tiger Woods cadding for you
and how rattled you would be about that,
then I think his knowledge would make you a better player.
Otherwise, he's going to make you significantly worse.
I've actually been thinking a lot about this.
So there's been rumblings of a Kisner match coming up, potentially here at Pinehurst.
And there's a lot of chatter about how are we going to do it.
What's the format going to be?
People always say, like, oh, you got to have like Frankie on the bag.
And I'm thinking, like, would that make me better or worse if I had Frankie as my cat?
I mean, I'm going to come out and say worse.
I'm a mental head case.
Just because, well, you guys, you guys' personalities are pretty different.
And I think as soon as you guys started going on each other's throats, it's fucking over.
Yeah.
Over.
Like, we'll be super positive for a couple holes, we're having a great time.
And then we have one little, like, no, I thought you said, like, the nine was going to be perfect.
Well, you didn't, you hit that nine like shit.
And then it's me and Frankie are strangling each other in the trees, like, fucking happy Gilmore.
And it's catty.
I can't even express how over it is.
Like you guys, like you said, you'd be positive for first two holes or whatever.
And then you guys might not speak for the rest of the 18th.
Comparable to Kisner also, like it's night and day.
Kisner is just going to go out there and, you know, it doesn't matter what's said to him.
He's just going to be Kiz.
So the fact that we have even the chance of fluctuating moods on our side is not good.
And as soon as Kiz sees cracks in the foundation of your guys team,
he's going to just twist the knife and twist the knife.
Kiz may hear me be like,
oh, I think it's a seven iron.
He'll be like,
huh, seven iron,
and then it's over.
Right there,
it's over.
And then I'm like,
well,
Frankie,
why did kids are just laugh at our seven iron?
And then we're a fucking nightmare.
Oh, man.
It'd be a disaster.
So another thing that I think is discussed is if,
like,
if this match was to theoretically happen at Pinehurst,
how would you guys have the match?
Like,
what makes it fair?
I know yardages were discussed as opposed to strokes, right?
Is that, would it be a, so what are you thinking?
So look, so there's a lot in the works.
There's very much interest at doing Pioneer's number two, Kisner versus myself.
He only lives three or four hours away.
You know, he doesn't have anywhere to plague off.
He's trying to finagle ways that we could capture interest, raise some money for his foundation.
So there's been a lot of talks, like you said, about Pioneers number two, having a match,
Riggs versus Kiz.
I don't know that the five iron challenge is right for that
because I don't think like that's fair for Kisder
to have the five iron at Piner's number two.
Like there's probably the worst golf course in the world
to do it at for him.
So let's throw that out.
And so then it becomes what could we do
that would be a legitimately fair competition?
Now, we've discussed on this show
of playing a U.S. open course from half the yardage.
Could you like make the cut or could you win the tournament
or could you compete or could you not even break 80?
what would we be able to do?
Pioneers number two is a U.S. Open course.
Pioneers is very much interested in this whole match,
so they could set it up however they wanted.
They could get this thing pretty close to like U.S. open conditions.
They don't have U.S. Open rough here.
They have just the wastey areas, as we all know,
and spend plenty of time in.
They just speed up, firm up the greens a little bit,
and boom, this place is pretty similar to what it would be like during the U.S. Open.
So it becomes like, what if I played the Red T's,
which are 52, 5300 yards,
and Kisner played the U.S. Open T's, which are like 7,600 yards?
Would it be, would I win? Would I lose? Would it not even be close?
I think you have a chance at that distance.
Now, I would have to get the scorecard and go through it kind of whole by hole
to see if there's any potential dry, like you could get on the green in one poles.
So, yeah, I would just have to look.
But I think at that distance, you have a chance to be competitive.
Now, again, if you don't hit the ball well, you're just going to get killed.
Doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter.
But I think at that distance, you have a chance to win.
It could be a competitive match.
Yeah, he's also, you're going to realize, like, 7,600 yards at a U.S. Open course,
he's not going to just be guaranteed to shoot, like, in the 60s.
Like, he could easily shoot 74, 75.
He could also shoot 68, 67 easily.
Right.
I think his high side is like that mid-70s round.
Right.
I think that's pretty reasonable.
is higher than that, obviously.
It has an eight or a nine in it.
Exactly.
And that doesn't matter really the distance for playing.
Like if you get it well, you're screwed.
If I'm just driving it like one of my poor driving days, it's just over.
Yeah, it's over.
We haven't even started yet.
It's over.
Yeah.
I would say you win.
I'll say that.
You need a win.
Hey, we need a win.
I think we're all on the same team here, no?
Well, you lost to a 12-year-old.
I don't know if we can all play.
Who shot 79?
Dude.
People, I don't know, that, like, post-interview match where the coach says something like super fucked up.
And then the other assistants just move away from the camera.
Lost the 12-year-old.
Just like, no, Riggs is by himself on an island over there.
But it would be great if you lost to a 12-year-old, came back and beat a pro.
Yes, thank you.
True.
Dude, I don't know, man.
A comeback story in sports.
I think you're dead, 5300 yards.
Yeah.
Dude, here's, you know what?
It's like an idea popped in my head.
head and it's like a hundred yards shorter per hole.
Yeah.
It doesn't matter.
500 divided by 18 average.
He's so elite once he gets, once he gets into the fairway, he's so elite, it doesn't
matter.
Like, you'll both be in the fairway at the same point.
He'll just be a little bit further than you.
You're not driving greens.
No, but I'm like, okay, but me being like, me being 70 yards out versus him being
150.
Eh, he's still better than that.
Yeah.
Pro, I have an idea right now that's, that's like, this is.
So it's an extra.
Quickly.
It's just a hot.
It's an extra 128 yards per hole.
Kisner's plan.
That's a difference.
That's a significant difference.
That's, I don't know.
I mean, we're still talking about the top 20 player in the world.
If we did a scramble, we beat Kiz.
From the same distance?
From the same T's.
Yeah, if we played the 7600, I think,
because it'd be so hard for everybody.
Lurch is not convinced.
You think the four of us in a four-man scramble beat Kisner from 7,600 yards.
Yeah.
Absolutely not.
What?
Dude, I don't know, man.
That's the match right there.
Like, that is what makes it fucking from the same spot that we all were hitting from the same fucking.
Dude, we would kill him.
We would kill him.
I don't think so, man.
Yeah, there's no way we wouldn't, like.
This isn't a handicapped event.
This is like, it's just, I know, but we get, we get to just hit it four times.
We have to hit one decently down there.
And then we get four tries to hit it on the grid.
But it's me and Trent hitting two of them.
And like, like, like, yeah, we all are 35 yards away on a, on a par five, right?
We hit a good drive.
We all knocked it up close to the green on a 550 yard par five.
And then like, I get up there.
I blade one over the green.
We're done.
Trent shanks went into the fucking bunker.
We're done.
you you knock one up to maybe 15 20 feet all right we have a birdie look fucking kizers
there's already 10 feet of birdie like we're not that like we're not in the clear right now
I don't know man it's a long golf course like Trent's going to shoot 115 I'm going to shoot
103 lurch is hopefully going to shoot like an 85 like what's going to happen here like he's going to
shoot a 73 like he's fucking kevin kisner it's a scramble though like how would we make a bogey
you got to think if we're even if we just if we're up near the green and two
somebody could chip it to 10 feet.
We get four putts at it.
Okay, so let's say we shoot 69 or 68.
Like kids can't compete with that?
No, you can, but like...
I think that match is a toss-up, though.
Wow.
Because I think we could easily do a scramble
7,600 yards.
I mean, really, like,
each one of those holes,
7,600 yards is
on average, going to play 422.
We are going to have a tough time
hitting a lot of green.
Yeah.
I mean,
if we hit one good drive
that's on court that would, you know,
maybe 260, 265,
we still have 160 in, is that math?
To a Pinehurst number two green,
that's like impossible to hold.
It's impossible.
I just, I think that
matches very close.
That's really funny.
I think we could,
I think we would be favored,
but I think we're not guaranteed to win.
No,
no,
no,
maybe minus 120.
Yeah,
I do think it's,
the more I think about it,
like,
man,
we could get behind quickly.
Like,
I've made bogeys before
playing scrambles at dog shit tracks
that are like 6,200 yards.
My group has made a bogey before
we're same golfers we are.
Right.
And I'm just thinking like,
All right.
So where we'll hopefully make up strokes is around the green because we're like close
and like one of us should have a good one because off the team, he's going to have a better
drive than us probably 16 out of 18 times.
Like his one ball is going to be better than our.
Yeah.
He's just going to be longer, straighter, and better.
So then we have to make up strokes after that.
But he's not going to hit every single fairway.
No, I know he's not.
But he's good like he's going to hit a couple.
He's going to hit quite a few.
He also, like, we were texting today about this potential match,
and he was like, I mean, he cares a ton about the foundation.
So we're probably going to do it in a format where we come up with a pool of money
that's going to charity, a charity pool.
I get 70% of it to like COVID-19 relief.
If I win, he gets 70% if he wins.
So he cares a lot.
He's like, by the way, you're going to get, you're going to get Torque is if we do this.
I was like, what does that mean?
And he was like, no drinking in bed by 10 p.m. the night before.
up stretching, ready to go.
He's like, we could have beers after,
or maybe even during the round once I know I'm going to beat you.
He's like, but the night before, I'm Tor Kiz.
I'm fucking serious.
I was like, holy the fuck.
I'm just picturing the reins session where, whatever,
a week ago you showed up and played a 12-year-old.
Then now you're showing up with kids.
He's got those bubbles below his feet.
He's making puts doing the balance thing.
Then he goes out, hits his iron shots.
You're going to get.
Dude, he was a monster at Palmetto in a,
hoodie. Like he was just like hanging out with Scott Brown. Like I don't really care. This is just kind of
fun. Imagine him showing up as tour kids. That's like a different person. We don't know that person.
That's going to be a problem. The rain on Long Island right now, I'm going to lose power. Like,
I can't explain to it. Darker in your room. I can't explain to you how like how nasty it is
outside right now. I mean, the world's ending outside my house. I was like when we talked to Riggs when he was
live to us from Bermuda.
I mean, a half hour later, it was just pitch black.
That's the fastest sunset in the history of the world.
I don't know.
It literally looked like the sun.
Does anybody talk to like, yeah,
astronomist about that?
Like that was crazy how fast the sun went down.
Yeah, because like I've,
like you said,
I've played in a bunch of scrambles at golf addings before.
And like you play your local just golf course down the block.
And like, yeah, you make you guys come in like the leaders fucking 10 under,
nine under with a bunch of your golfers in that group.
but they're not playing Pioneer's number two from 7,600 yards.
Like you play a fucking golf adding at Piner's number two from 7600 yards.
I bet you leader in the clubhouse comes in like 500,
six under, maybe with like a couple of elite golfers in the crew
because you're coming across a couple holes that are just unattainable for regular hacks
that can't get it done.
Like, I mean, the greens are atrocious.
How many times will we chip up and it'll roll back or roll off?
Like, I mean, it's, I think the 5,300 yard thing is,
just if kids is playing at a tour level like like i don't know i just you still make the same
mistakes that you would from 7600 yards you're just closer and like you have a little bit
less club so it's like minimal chances to hit as much like really bad shanks i i get what you're
saying on that but like you're still going to be 100 yards out on some holes and he's going to be
140 and he's just going to be fucking darting them in there darting them in there yeah i think i'm not
the favorite like you there's just you're just you're just going to be fucking darting them in there
Like, there's just no way.
Like, if we do that, I'm definitely the underdog.
But I have to be.
But I think if I play well, I think I could definitely win.
Like, you know, it's going to be hard for him to break bar.
It's fucking 7,600 yards on those greens.
That is long.
That's longer than Bethpage.
That's like, you know, when we play Beth page from the back to these, it's like,
that's like 150 or 20 yards longer than that.
We would, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
We'd be so fucked as a scramble.
He'd beat all four of us on the same ball.
We should try to do that.
That'd be pretty good.
I know.
It's hilarious,
the fact that he could beat us all from the same ball.
By himself.
Just playing one ball, one attempt.
That's it.
Kevin Kiser versus four play scramble.
We're going to talk more about this.
First,
I've got to talk more about the EB-66 five-pocket pants
are my very good friends at Peter Millar.
I get requests.
I get ass all the time.
What are those pants?
What are you wearing? Those look comfortable.
Those are fire.
They're the EB-66 five-pocket pants.
They're absolutely a must-buy-car, two-way stretch.
It's perfect for comfortable rounds on the course.
Also for work.
I've told this story many times.
My brother, the only thing he asked for, like a year and a half ago,
after I got the Peter Mawr pants for the first time,
I gave a couple paired at him.
Christmas a couple months later,
the only thing he asked for was like five pair of the EB-66 five pocket pants.
You go to petermalar.com slash four.
check out a bunch of our favorite options on there.
But the best one, in my opinion, is the EB-66-5 pocket pants.
You can literally throw them in a ball, leave it on the floor next day.
They'll be there.
No wrinkles, no worries.
Shape retention.
That's what's called shape retention.
We'll stand up to an entire round of golf.
It can even be worn in the clubhouse afterwards.
They're a natural look and feel with tons of versatility.
Petermalar.com.
They've got all the options.
You can even check out petermalar.com slash four.
or perfect your swing and torque with these five pocket pants,
which will provide ample flexibility.
They've also got great, the Perth quarter zip, all of their polos.
I've been rocking the print polos that people are just kind of ooh and eye at.
They have like bottles on them.
They got cool, fun designs yet kind of within the shell of the very classy,
typical Peter Millar shirt quality.
Petermalar.com.
You can even take them a step farther and go to Petermalar.com slash for EB665 pocketp
pants are the best.
Yeah, so I would love to do the scramble.
We've had so many ideas of like doing the half yardage thing,
do when I play the Red T's kids,
plays the tips,
doing a four-man scramble from the tips at Pioneer's number two,
us versus him.
I think if we did like 6,800 yards,
I think we would beat them at Pines.
Yeah.
Yeah, you know,
7,600 were fucked.
Seventy-s.
But I also think it's close.
But I also think it could be close,
7,600.
7600 could be
competitive
Yes
Because we'll be in the same areas
And he'll be further than us
Obviously we're playing the same T's
But like we have four shots
Like
You know what I mean
We have four
Four fucking chances
So I just went to the 2014
I was Googling
Why you guys were talking
U.S. Open to see what Kisner shot
He went 7577
At Pinehurst
So like
That gives me
a little bit more hope.
Yeah, that's, you know, that's U.S. Open
intensity of it and all that versus you're playing fucking rigs.
So, right, right, right.
Take off a couple shots right there.
Right.
So, like, yeah, so 74.
But that should also explain, like, us playing from that yardage means that we're in
the 80s or the 90s.
Like, I mean, come on.
It's not even close.
There was pros that shot 81.
We'll have to ask Stu.
Yeah.
We'll have to ask Stu.
You're there?
What's up?
Hey, pal.
Hey, how we doing?
I'm doing great.
How you doing?
Good.
I like your fancy setup.
I know.
I do.
I look like a real asshole in here.
You're the moral compass of Pinehurst and you're doing the part.
You have the compass with you?
There is.
Of course.
Did that not have like an east or something on it?
Did I see that?
Did someone tweet that out that it didn't have one of the locations on it?
One of the.
East?
It doesn't have east.
It didn't have one of them.
I thought, unless it was covered by something.
Yeah, it's got a O instead.
Oh.
Yeah.
Oh, weird.
That's a regal-ass fucking compass, though.
Yeah, that thing is sick.
Pop that out of your pocket.
It's a super fancy thing that's just like snitch.
Yeah.
Now you can really locate the people on the golf course by pulling out your compass.
Maybe it beeps when people that are beneath you come onto the golf course.
I know you guys are making fun of me,
but you know this thing's really cool.
It is really cool.
That's right.
Dude, you need a ship now.
That's fine.
I'll take a ship.
I'll go to ship.
I'll go to the Pirates of the Caribbean last night,
and that's totally the compass.
Did you know that the Pirates of the Caribbean
was a ride before it was a movie?
Buddy, I'm in Southern California.
I was on the ride before I even thought of there would be a movie.
How insane is that?
Like, I feel like the general public does not know
that the Pirates of the Caribbean was a Disney.
Disneyland ride and it was written with a story that you like go through it and like they have the
pirates and the people getting drunk and everything.
And then Disney just adapted it into a movie and casted Johnny Depp.
And then they added him to the ride at the end and made it into that story.
I find that fascinating.
We watched the third one last night.
I think the first two were like totally on board.
Everyone was on board for it.
And then like on the third one, it just took like a really weird turn.
Yeah.
Third one is bizarre.
It just like didn't really stack up.
It wasn't even in the same realm.
I feel like as the first two.
but the first two were, I mean, there was nothing like it.
Stu's gone frozen phase, most.
Yeah, maybe we should give him an introduction.
Yeah, no, I was going to, but then he froze.
I think, yeah, he's not moving.
I like that he just jumped into the show.
This is nice.
Yeah, he did.
That was kind of Max Homa-esque how he just rolled right in.
Oh, yeah, there you are.
So I'm going to give you a quick introduction.
I mean, we're not going to stop the show or anything.
But we have the 2017, I believe, was the year,
low amateur finisher at the Masters tournament,
which you've probably heard of.
Stu Huggistad has joined the show for the first time.
Stu, what's up?
Thank you.
It was a long time ago,
but we're doing great.
Happy to be here.
We've talked about this before,
and this is cool.
I'm on board.
Let's do it.
Hell yeah, I like that.
So, I mean, you're in Southern California.
What's your, what do you,
I mean, you have a real life job,
but you're also a really good golfer who plays in an extremely high level,
aka low amateur at the Masters before.
So what's your quarantine situation right now?
Dude, so it's funny.
Like a lot of people are always like, you know,
oh, you must be playing and practicing all the time.
Between like October and March, like I don't really play golf.
Like I'll play with my dad and my brothers.
But like, I mean, I don't know.
Like I try and be active.
Like, you know, I'll work out or, you know,
it's a little warmer out here so you can play beach volleyball
on the occasional day and like, you know,
January and February.
But, yeah, like I don't know how much longer, you know,
I'll play competitively, like, you know, and all the big am stuff, but definitely try and make the most of it when the time comes.
But quarantine's all right.
I got out of L.A. as soon as this whole thing started, because otherwise, very similar to being in New York.
You know, you used to be stuck in my apartment.
So I came down in Orange County and I'll kind of switch between, you know, here and my parents are divorced.
So I'll go down to San Diego.
And they both live on a golf course.
So I can kind of sneak out and chip a couple if I need to scratch the itch.
but yeah, I mean, all things considered, it's, it's all right.
But, I mean, everyone's just trying to find something to do outside of whatever they're doing.
So let's talk about your kind of status and relationship with competitive golf.
Because to us, we would say, like, okay, this guy's good enough to make the cut at the Masters.
Finish low amateur.
A lot of the people that you have beat and played better than will go on to be accomplished
professional golfers, you, right afterwards, you know, you were asked many times and you're like,
no, I don't think I'm going to turn professional. What is, like, where does that come from?
Why wouldn't you be like, oh, I'm good enough to just make a bunch of money playing professional
golf? Well, so first off, and thank you. That's very nice of you to say.
You're welcome. It's a lot, it's a lot easier to say that when you're 21 or 22 and maybe you had
the resume that I have now, right? Like, in my wildest dreams and I was in college, like, you know,
you always kind of fantasize about the idea of turning pro and going on and becoming, you know,
maybe not the next Tiger Woods, but say like, you know, a Jordan Speath or Justin Thomas.
And the reality is, is like, everyone's really good.
And you don't really realize that, you know, like, as you get older, you're more exposed
to the world around you.
And you kind of have, like, a better barometer of kind of where you're at.
Well, I got to, like, my junior year and I was never an All-American.
And, like, I knew that I loved playing competitive golf.
But, like, at the same time, doubt began to kind of creep in.
to be like, hey, like, this is something I really want to do for the rest of the rest?
Like, do I really want to get my ass kick for the rest of my life?
Like, does that make sense?
Right?
So, um, at that point, like, it was never, like, senior year's outrageous.
It was like, I won't go super into it.
A lot of people are remember it was like Justin Tom, Corey Witts at Bobby Wyatt.
Like, the entire Cal team was ranked inside, like, the top 18 in the world rankings.
It was just like, we played, um, it was my senior year at LCC.
And we got beat four-day event by a Cali.
out team by 76.
And it was kind of like, holy crap, you're really good.
And that was kind of like, I came in the first day.
And I think I was like even par in my, and I thought like I was playing pretty well.
You know, course is playing really tough.
And the assistant coach kind of saddles up to me.
He's like, hey, man, looks like you're playing all right.
And like, yeah, you know, like what's leading?
And he's like, well, you're 10 behind.
Like, cool.
Yeah, that is because like, you know, again, we think like, we know Joe will think
I'll go out and play a really good nine holes and be like, sign me up.
Like, when do I turn pro?
This is pretty easy.
Just hit it straight.
Hit it in the middle of green.
Make a couple of putts and I'm shooting six days.
Great.
Golf's easy.
But on that level, I mean, we hear horror stories all the time.
But guys going into like Monday qualifier, you know, shooting 66 and not even being close to
qualifying for a tournament.
Yeah.
And it kind of goes back to like, I've, again, the older you get, like, I have so much respect
for the guys that do that.
And like, just chase Mondays.
and, you know, I was ironically on the phone this morning with Dylan Meyer,
who was a total stud coming out of school, right?
Like first team or won the Western total beast.
And, you know, Dylan, unfortunately, isn't a tough spot because he was going to go
and hopefully playing, you know, Canada this year, but in light of coronavirus and all that stuff,
like, you know, he just, he can't really chase status.
And there's just so many good players out there.
And as I said, when I first asked when I started, like, if I maybe had the resume now that
I had, you know, when I was 21 or 22, kind of.
coming out of school. I think that maybe would have made a lot of sense. But as I've gotten
older and gotten the chance to meet, you know, a lot of people, you know, in the world of amateur
golf and have, you know, done well. I lived in New York for three years. I lived in the city,
you know, worked on Wall Street. Like, I look at a lot of those guys and I'm like, man,
as much as I love competitive golf, like, I think in the back of my mind, like, I've had a
nice little bit of runway to chase some things competitively. But at the same time, like, dude, I want
to have kids and, you know, be a great dad. And I just think that there's other ways.
to kind of scratch that itch, so to speak, rather than playing like 30 events a year.
I mean, listen, we could go more into it, but that's kind of the backstory for sure.
All right.
What a ridiculously mature look at life you have.
Yeah, yeah.
Two good parents, man.
I got really lucky.
That's all we'll say.
Yeah, it's everybody else is like, yeah, just turn pro immediately.
You know, you're breaking rules, violations.
You can never go back to amateur golf.
They're like, give me the money.
Give me that free gift.
Give me that free speaker.
Like, whatever I could do to plague off and somehow technically get paid to do it.
you're like, no, no, there's like, I need to have family and a real life and this such.
So it is like, I guess then at what point, you know, was there a point of like, oh, man,
maybe I am good enough, maybe I was wrong now here.
I'm winning mid-ams.
I'm at the Masters tournament.
I'm watching.
I'm playing pretty competitively.
Was there ever sort of that thought of, eh, I could have been wrong.
Maybe I should give this a run.
Oh, dude, for sure.
And like anyone that says otherwise, like, you're.
totally lying. Like, that's not true. Like, um, you know, I, it's, it's tricky again,
because I go back to like, you think about it and, um, you know, it's definitely something,
you know, there's always like a voice inside your head where it's like, you know, as you said,
like, you know, what if I, what if I am good enough, you know, it's not that different. But at the
same time, like, you got to know the strengths of your game and you got to kind of know what goes into
it. And, um, it's a risk for sure. And it's a gamble. And I go back to,
And everyone does this at some capacity, whatever industry they're in.
Like they talk to people that they D smarter than they are.
And they kind of look at, you know, what would you do if you were in my shoes?
And I think that's kind of the default answer.
But yeah, man, like, again, like, do I think about it, of course?
Like, I look at guys that I used to play in junior golf and college golf and, you know, guys that have been on, like, the Walker Cup team in 2017.
Like, people look at Colin Morric Allen.
And they're like, oh, my gosh, what a rock star.
like I saw him that week, like in practice at the Walker Cup.
And I was like, oh my gosh, you're so much better at golf than I am.
This isn't even close.
Like, this is unbelievable.
That's crazy.
How do you shoot north of like 66 every time?
You hit it 310 on a string.
Like that week, he putted it like just okay.
And I was like, this is ridiculous.
Like it's playing against a tour pro.
Like this is wild.
God, that's why.
It is just, it's funny.
Like we, you know, people kind of laughed when we put out our, our Kisner video.
We're going to get into a couple hypothetical checks.
stats and we want to get your opinion on.
We were just debating before you came on the show.
But when we put out our 18-hole video of us playing with Kisner and Scott Brown,
and like three or four or five holes in there,
a couple different moments on T-boxes where we were like facing the camera being like,
I don't get it.
Like he doesn't miss.
And Frankie even said he's like, no, he has a human body and we have a human body.
And it's like one second of a physical motion.
And then he just does it like really way better than us.
Why don't we just do that?
And some of the reaction to that was people being like,
How about these guys are so surprised that a PGA tour golfer is really good.
And we're like, no, but I don't think you get Mr. Viewer at home how fucking good they are.
Like, and how hard it is to be that good.
Like here's an example.
It's really challenging for me to watch golf with friends of mine.
Listen, like, I love my friends.
And like some of them that have been to some of the bigger events, like, that's awesome.
Like, they kind of know the deal and they see it, you know.
And like, you guys have been on the range.
I mean, you know what it's like.
And some guys, you know, hit it, you know, a little better.
but everyone to the untrained eye more or less kind of looks the same.
But then there's certain guys.
Like if you see Tommy Fleetwood hit like 30 seconds worth of balls,
you're like, nope, that guy stripes.
Like goes to the same window.
Like you can just tell.
It sounds different.
So, no, dude, I'm totally with you.
And like, it's you look at, you look at guys and you're like, yeah, like, I can totally do that.
You know, I guess an easy example for me would be like, well, I know how to ice skate and I know how to shoot pucks.
But like, and I've talked to our friend, AJ.
about this, you're a mutual friend.
And he's like, dude, like, there's so many little movements in hockey that you can't even
like fathom.
Like, imagine skating backwards, like, you know, passes and spacing and timing and, like,
all of that, like, makes sense in theory.
But when, like, you know, push comes to shove, it's like, no, like, you have zero business
being on the ice, so don't even try.
Like, you need a decades worth of skating experience to even, like, fathom the idea.
Yeah.
I'm glad you brought that up because we're not a hockey podcast, but we do talk.
And actually, yeah, I was going to say, it's funny.
he brought up hockey because I was thinking of like an example when rigs you said about how we said
about kisner like you know I could be standing in a fair way with kevin kisner we could both be holding
the same exact golf club and we could both be doing something that seems attainable right like i can
take a swing at this golf ball and it should be able to have the same sort of like result as his but
it's just completely different whereas hockey like you watch these guys and they're doing something that
i can't do right i need to get skates i need to go out there like i need to learn from a younger age but like
For golf, it's like, hey, we both have these sticks in our hands.
We're on grass.
We're standing here.
Let's just figure this out.
And then we can't.
And it's so mind-boggling.
I'm, like, really glad you used the hockey thing because, like, in college, like, in our
preseason skates, we would occasionally have NHL guys would skate with us for a couple
weeks while they were, like, waiting to figure out where they're going to sign or
camp start or whatever.
And we had Brendan Shanahan skated with us for, like, two or three weeks.
And you think about Shanahan and how the highlights and his little snapshot and how, like,
he scored a ton of goals and racked up points and he's Brendan Shannon.
But like his little plays, like, you know, he'd have his back turn to the
sentiment and somebody would kind of fire a shitty D-man would fire like a shitty pass off
the boards and he would just do a little backhand toe flick like right through his legs to the
centerman skating full speed and it's a two-on-one the other way.
And like to the untrained eye, it'd be like, oh yeah, great two-on-one for, you know,
Sidney Crosby and like whatever.
But really that play happened because Brendan Shanahan,
And, you know, 100 feet earlier on the blue line made a sick little pet.
And he does that all day, every day.
And we would just notice it in practice all time.
Like, anytime you just shoot the puck towards Brendan Chanahan,
it ends up back in your team's hands in like a great chance to score every single time.
And it was the little shit like that that you just couldn't explain to people.
Like his hockey sense, his little ability, his touch was so much better than anybody else's that it was laugh.
It was like he wasn't even trying to play hockey and was playing a hundred times better than we were.
Yeah.
I think like and golf is that way too because you're like from 160 I can get it on the green just like Kisner can or something like that or I can hit that great shot that he can't and hockey in those sports that are one on one like I was hockey was my main sport and I got humble but like I got to a good level and then played some goalies that were just better than I and blended in the ice and I could just see that they're better and they just stop the puck but like they'd melt into the ice and move but that's not really the point like how did you have any space and
the net when you stood in there.
How are you not an NHL goalie?
Like how are you like the walrus from the fucking Geico commercial?
Is it a point out, you idiots?
How did anyone see a puck under or around you?
You just sit there.
Probably my weakest spot.
Five poll, you could find some room.
But like, I can get it on the ice.
So you have that moment of like, oh, I could be a pro to like what Riggs said earlier.
But then you see a flea wood or somebody hit it and you're like, holy hell.
Like he hasn't missed the ball and that ball takes the same path.
And I can't attain that.
I like it when people are like, oh, it just comes down to, like, work and how much you want it.
And it's like, eh, what does it?
Like, there's some guys that are just flat out better.
And, you know, as soon as you accept that reality, and I'm not saying, like, you know, be a quitter or whatever.
But, like, when you look at certain guys, like, if you put in five units of input and they get five units of output, there's other guys that put in, like, 25 units of input, and they get five units of output.
But it's just like, like, like, Anthony Kim was notorious for, like, kidding balls for, like, an hour and then go playing nine and being like, all right, good day, cool.
And then, you know, you have guys that are, like, you know, going cats in America.
running a million miles and hitting all the balls in the world.
We are very much supported by our very good friends at Dude wipes.
Dude wipes are the original flushable wipes for guys.
Everyone is stocking up on toilet paper with the coronavirus situation, as you know,
as you've seen.
But you need to be stocking up on dude wipes as dude wipes as dude wipes are better than toilet
paper and are multi-purpose to use anywhere on your body.
I've been rocking the dude shower wipes.
I also had an incident.
E-bug was there where I had to go to the bathroom again on the golf course.
I think I might have IBS.
Oh my God, I can't believe you brought this up.
That's crazy.
You what?
What does that mean?
You can't control your movements?
You can't control it.
You got to go.
I just,
there's literally nothing that I can do mentally or physically to prevent myself
from having to go to the restaurant.
I thought this was our secret.
I thought this was our secret.
No, I've talked,
this has happened to me before.
This happened to me at Sabotic.
It happened to me at Sabotic one time.
It's happened to me at Granite,
links and now it happened to be at piner's number eight you've long been a proponent of bringing um either
toilet paper or dude wipes out onto the course to help with this chambers bay uh my guy devontees called
you rigsy runs behind your back at one point because you had you just you had to miss three or four
holes because you ran back to the bathroom at chambers bay and we just kept going and you met us
you met us on like two or three holes later he's like rigsy runs he's gone to the bathroom four
or five times today it's crazy i think i have a problem yeah rigsy runs is a great nickname
know.
That's going to sit.
It's a shame.
It's a real shame.
Sorry for letting that one out, Taser.
He's like, Rigsie Run still at it.
Man, that's funny.
Rigsy Runs is a good one.
I haven't heard that one in like a year.
That's a good one.
The good news is if you're like Rigsy Runs,
you can go to dude products.com.
Use code Riggs.

So you, this is something that you've, you know, I've brought you up on the show a handful of times.
It's like, you're one of the guys who's actually got a legitimate golf resume who I talk to about my game.
And you, especially in a different manner than like, Kisner will just roast me about my swing.
And he'll just send me like a screenshot of his own swing and get to this position.
I mean, I want to be a dick, but like you have a platform.
Like, I can't do that.
Like, I've, you know.
So your, but your reaction is always very different.
It's always about like practicing with a plan.
and you're like, no, when you go to your practice session, you need to come out of it with, like,
achievement.
Like, you need to have a question.
So, like, what is your sort of like prep routine and how different will your kind of
performance be if you don't do your routine right?
Right.
So I think, I mean, I'll start with this.
Like, I've done, I've played a long time and I've, you know, it's, I've, I kind of know
when I'm sharp enough and when I'm not, but like, that's not where we'll go with this.
So it's a very, very small thing.
But I was around, you know, a few good players growing up.
And one of them that kind of stuck with me was if you write down goals that you want to get done during the day,
whether it's like, you know, the nine putt, the daily nine drill, right?
And you do like a ladder drill or, you know, maybe, you know, it's to hit like certain chip shots and you have to like make five before you go.
Or you want to hit, you know, five cuts in a row followed by five draws in a row, followed by like an alternate one.
Like writing down little like daily goals, it's no different than like anyone else has in their work.
It's like an achievement sheet, right?
It's like, okay, I did that.
And like, it just, it allows you to kind of practice, as you said, like, with a purpose,
like practice how you play.
And, you know, if you have two hours, like, how are you going to break down?
It takes, like, what, two minutes, like to think about, right?
So, like, if you have two hours, you know, how are we going to make the most of that
two hours?
Like, we're going to do putting girls.
We're going to, you know, we're going to chip in it bunker shots.
And maybe we're going to pitch or maybe, you know, during this time, like, I'm struggling
with my three wood.
So I'm going to dedicate 20 minutes to, like, hitting different three wood shots.
it just, you know, it doesn't have to be like a concrete thing or you're like strictly, you know,
you know, abiding by that, that program.
But I think it does allow you to have a little bit more, um, maybe just like a game plan of like
what you want to do.
And I think it allows you to be a little bit more structured.
But I don't know.
I mean, it's just, it's having a plan, man.
Like everyone's different.
But I think that that helps me.
And if that doesn't help you, that's cool.
And that's your thing.
But that's, I think, yeah.
Yeah.
Because I think everybody's, go ahead, Frank.
Sorry, speaking about ranges real quick, it's just I can't get the vision out of my head of when we were at Pebble Beach for the U.S. Open.
And Stu rolls up holding his own bag and he walks up to a professional U.S. Open driving range.
And we're just like, how is how is this guy doing?
Like, what is he doing that we're not?
Right?
Like, you're holding your own bag like you're a weekend golfer and you're just walking onto the range next to Brooks Kepka.
And you're allowed to.
No, I went nowhere near Brooks Cupka.
Let's be very clear about that.
Almost nobody did.
He was at the end.
Oh, yeah, that's right.
That was the only person I shouldn't have brought up.
There's two guys.
I was like, listen, that's Tiger.
I'm like, I can, like, feel his aura.
Like, no.
But, like, isn't it sometimes, like, surreal to you,
even though however many times you join these tournaments and, like,
and I'm sure we can get into all that, like,
what it feels like to play amongst these guys.
But, like, we're talking about the range.
And, like, I just, I'll never forget that being like,
hey, that's, like, me walking up there with my bag.
Like, no staff bag, bag, like, pro caddy walking with
you. It was just crazy to me. It was just crazy to me that like, I don't know, I almost like thought
they were going to tackle you when you walked up there. And then you just like went up there.
You striped a couple, went to the putting green, and you were ready to go. It was crazy to me.
Well, thank you. I, I assign, you know, a lot of people have these big coaches, right? They've got
their swing coach and their mental coach and the whole deal. So this is kind of funny. And I'll
touch on that. But a couple of years ago when I was fortunate to qualify for my first US open
it at Aaron Hills, I noticed.
like in the player's signing you go on the internet and you sign in all the stuff and they have like
you know your coaching carousel or whatever right so all these guys you know have their nutritionalist
and their mental coach and their whole thing so i don't really have like any of that stuff so you know
i thought it would be cool to you know invite some of my best friends to come with me so i assign like
you know my buddy uh you know blaine as my swing coach and jeff is my mental coach and um i don't know
who it was someone is my nutritionalist um my physical coach
by the third day was smoking a cigar and drinking beer at 10 a.m.
My, I actually had a, I had a translator.
And I was like, if anyone gives any shit, just, like, go straight Spanish.
So I broke the system for anyone that wants a translator going forward.
I was like, no.
So anyways, yeah, I don't know.
A lot of those guys, like, I played junior golf against in college golf.
So, like, you don't, like, I don't look at, like, obviously, Jordan Smith and Justin Thomas,
I'd to say those two names, right?
Like, yeah, they were ballers in junior golf.
followers in college golf. But like you don't look at those guys the same way or even Bryson.
Like you don't look at them the same way that you would maybe someone that you've looked up to
your entire life like Phil or Tiger and Ernie Ells or whoever. And like those guys,
those are like your idols, right? Maybe like if you played out there more like you'd be more
comfortable with it for sure. But, um, you know, especially like a lot of the younger guys,
you kind of look at them and like they're into the same things you are. Like they, you know,
when they go on spring break with their friends,
like they, you know,
want to play golf and drink beer with their shirts.
Like they want to do the exact same things that all of us want to do
on spring break if we were to have one, right?
So I don't know.
It's,
it's cool and it's awesome and it's interesting,
but definitely like, you know, Tiger,
Brooks to an extent, you know,
Phil, like I look at those guys and I'm like,
oh my gosh, that's the guy I looked up to for my entire way.
That's crazy.
It's just, it is funny that no matter who we talk to,
it's always the same reaction to Tiger of like,
no, I could just sense his aura on the range.
Dude, it's wild.
everything I was doing. It has to. It's wild. Same thing. Shini in 2018,
like, I was hitting like crap that week. So like I went to go hit a few and he like came
on the range and I swear to God like people were coming out of like the floor and the woodwork.
And I was like, that's Tiger Woods. And then you're like hearing him hit and here you hit and
you're like, oh no. I was trying so hard. It was like, you know, it's kind of like you go into like
a high school cafeteria and like the hot girl sitting at the table and you're like,
just be normal. Just be normal.
any interactions with him or no?
I shook his hands.
I haven't washed it since.
I'm in a global pandemic even.
Yeah, it's a bad joke, actually.
No, I shook his hand.
Actually, well, we did walk in together.
And the first day, we had like similar times.
We like, I'll try and expedite this.
But we have like, we park in player parking
and we walk through together and there's a bunch of security guys and guys taking my pictures.
I walk in.
I'm like, that's weird.
I shot like 82 yesterday.
Like, why was my picture being taken?
So we walk in and we have to like wait for, you remember it at Chenicock where you walk through
from the player parking lot and you walk past 10 and Sam Burns like hits a drive out there
and this guy next to me is like, oh, Bernsey's rocking the beard this week.
I'm like, yeah, kids really good.
And then I was like, wait a minute.
Dan, that voice is super familiar.
And I like look to my left and like I'm six, five and he's like six,
one. I felt like I was looking, you know, mountain.
And we walked, same thing. Like, we walked in together. And, you know, he's like,
oh, you know, how did you yesterday? I'm like, oh, not great. How about you? In the back of my mind,
I'm like, I watched every shot last night before I fell asleep. I know exactly what you shot,
where you hit, like the whole deal. And, yeah, it was like, it was cool to be, we're certainly
not peers because he has, like, you know, every record there is, if, you know, obviously besides
Jack, but it was cool to be, like, in that moment to be peers, essentially, like,
playing in the same tournament and, like, to walk in together.
And it was, like, it was really cool and totally something I'll remember for forever.
That's awesome.
I can't believe he just made a little comment like that.
You're like, how my giddy even talking about it.
Yeah, that's the guy.
That's great.
Yeah, I'm like, I mean, if he would have said that to me, I was like, what, excuse,
what did you just say?
Can I carry your bag?
Can I?
I just look over my shoulder and assume he was.
talking to somebody else.
Yeah, like, do like one of these, like, oh, what?
That's great.
Talking to my translator?
Actually, that year they got rid of the translator for native English speakers, so, but
yeah, I mean, whatever, Robbie, whatever.
How hard was Shinnacock playing that that week?
Because, I mean, that was sort of clown golf that we had, I think Bryson called it.
One of the softer players in tour, Zach Johnson said that they had lost the golf course.
They lost control.
He was right.
you know so so i mean i'm i'm totally in the minority on this one um you know and i'm not
going to i mean everyone it's not a secret that you know i'm i i'm a big fan of the us ga i think
it's run by very smart people um i think that once there's a transition from amateur golf until
to call or to uh to the professional golf i think there's like this weird mindset change um which is
too bad, but I mean, I'm not a pro, so I can't really speak to that. But yeah, I mean,
Shennecock that week is the hardest golf course I've ever played. And it's, I don't really think
that it's close. Do I think that it was unfair? Um, no. But I do think there were a lot of holes
where you kind of had to sit there on the T. Like use, uh, what was it, 15, for example, like,
Justin Rose on Saturday. And again, like, for the record, I wasn't playing on the weekend,
so I can't, like, if you have a different opinion, that's a total your call. But, you know,
like Justin Rose hit like four iron,
have like the proper angle going into the green
through some kind of a pitching wedge or gap wedge
or maybe it was even a nine iron way up in the air
and left himself like 15 feet.
In my opinion, the US Open, you know,
regardless of score and par and you can get into that all you want.
But like it doesn't just identify like the best golfer.
It's also the best thinker and the most patient.
And like if, as ridiculous as it sounds,
like if that means that you're like for your skill set or your shot arsenal,
like if that means you hit it over the green
and then have to like chip it back up or whatever,
like figure out what the best miss is to get the ball in the hole in the shortest amount of time possible.
I think that Phil maybe was frustrated in the moment.
I don't necessarily agree what he said after.
That's my own opinion.
I mean, I obviously respect him since he's the second greatest golfer of our generation, for sure.
But, yeah, I mean, I didn't agree, but I also wasn't there, so I can't really talk.
And that's the most politically correct answer I can get.
Nice.
Yeah.
Well done.
During that week, I saw all you putt, and it seemed like you made like 60 or 70 puts in a row.
Like it was amazing.
I was like dumbfounded with how well you hit the ball in the hole.
If you took an amateur golfer like one of us and said, you have to play Shinnecock,
do you think one of us could break 125, like a 10 handicap?
It'd be 125.
It'd be really close.
Because Shinnecock is one of those golf courses.
And there was a really nice article this morning that I read.
as I was drinking coffee.
About Chimacupac.
Anything productive.
No, about Seminole.
And they were just kind of talking about.
So seminal and national golf links and the old course.
And even, you know, Augusta to an extent, there's a book called Making of the Masters,
which is really cool and kind of goes into this.
And it's really interesting because it's one of those golf courses where if you're a higher
handicapped golfer, if you're a 10 handicap and Chinnock is, again, the same way.
If you hit fairways, like there's a lot of old.
open areas where you can kind of get to the green.
And it's very playable for a higher handicap.
But as a better player, it's really challenging, like, to score well.
Does that kind of make sense?
Like, it's, it's, if you think about, like, you know, Augustine National, like, you can,
if you hit the shots as, like, a 10 or 15 handicap, like, you can play that golf course
if you miss it in the right spots.
But as a better player, it's very tough to kind of, like, you have to be patient.
You have to know, like the intricacies of the golf course.
And I just think that, you know, with Seminole, like, if, if you're, you know,
you hit it out of play. Like, yeah, you're screwed. You're going to, it's going to, you're going to shoot a million.
Yeah.
I can't believe this. Sorry, I just noticed that the cup I'm drinking out of is 118th U.S. Open at
Shinnecock. Wow. That's cute.
It's like, who we do?
I have a coffee too. I just looked at it and was like, it is like, it is like, I felt like
anybody who's a decent golfer, like a 10 handicap or whatever, could shoot around 80 there
pretty easily, like without any crazy weather. Because you just kind of.
you know where to miss in the right spots.
And you think like you can't necessarily get it close to the hole easily.
It was really, really hard to get it close to the hole because there's like mounds and undulations that would kick your ball on different ways.
But for the average ammator, it's like, okay, I'm 50 feet away, but I'm putting fine.
I'll three put.
I'll make a bogey, no big deal.
Frankie, by the way, I'm with you.
If we're within like 20 yards of the green, perfect line in the middle of the fairway, tight, I'm putting it.
So screw these guys.
I'm on board with you.
Just get it to a spot that I'm not going to like want to kill myself.
after when I walk up to the green.
I know that I can get it there with a putter.
Why not do that, right?
Who's a hero?
I'm not a hero.
There's no.
That's exactly right.
Don't be a hero.
Get the ball to where it needs to be.
However you can get it there, that's the way to do it.
I'm done practicing my wedge because you know what?
I can get it there with my putter.
Have you put all the web and have you committed to putting from everywhere, Frankie?
It's gotten, it's like laughable now.
Like the other day I rocked with the links, I put one from.
I don't know, like 35 yards off degree.
Amazing.
How'd you do?
I got it right up there to within like a flag's distance,
missed a put and had to tap in.
But I mean, you know, it's great.
I made a bogey and like instead it would have been.
It could be so much worse.
Instead it would have been a bull.
Because it was such a tight lie.
It would have been a blade over chunk on three putt from there.
We're walking away with the snowman.
I'll take a five all day long.
I don't like laying up inside of 50 yards.
I'm with you.
All right.
Sorry, didn't mean to cut you off rigs.
No, no, all good.
So one of our debates earlier was if we played the tips at Pioneers number two,
have you been to Pioneers?
Played the USA in there last year.
Dude, that golf.
That's right.
Last year.
I played it coming off of a red eye.
That golf course is so hard.
Like, of all the places you chose in the country that you could have quarantined at,
you maybe chose the hardest day in and day out.
So props to you or you're just an idiot.
That means a lot.
Thank you.
I appreciate that.
Why the red eye?
What was the story behind that?
So Brandon Wu and I were, we were, we was really cool.
We, we were, you know, chosen to go down and to play the Pan American games in,
uh, in Lima.
And the timing was kind of a bummer, but, um, they ended on Sunday.
So we like totally hustled, um, the USDA in this organization called USA Golf,
which is the organization that takes the guys over the Olympics, right?
Yeah.
Not this year, but every other year or whatever you get it.
Um, so it ended on Sunday.
And the USDA was really cool.
You obviously can't like, you know, suggest tea time.
at the US AM or the Open or whatever,
but they knew it was going on
and they were really cool about it.
So we had an afternoon tea time
because there was, I'm thinking one other guy
in the field that was down there,
but we literally took a red eye,
Lima to Miami,
like hopped on another flight in the North Carolina,
like slept for like two hours.
Yeah, it was gnarly.
But that golf course is so hard, man.
Oh my gosh.
It's really hard.
How did you feel about Pioneer number four
trying to kind of with them doing,
you know, both courses?
They don't typically do that.
Pioneer number four is brand new with Gil Hans.
and all that. How do you think it's stood up from a, you know, competition, competitiveness standpoint?
Start with the kids are really good. So any golf course you throw at them, regardless of how hard it is,
like they're going to make it look, you know, not that it's easy, but they're going to,
they're going to play it well. I firmly believe that the U.S. AM year in and year out is close to as close as a U.S. Open golf course.
Right. I think the only difference is one's labeled the U.S. Am and one's labeled the U.S. Open.
that's at least a shot or two standing on the first tee, as I said,
sitting next to guys you've looked up through your whole life.
So I thought that for the purpose that it played being the companion course
did a really, really nice job, they didn't put the pins in funky, tough spots.
They allowed it to kind of, you know, play as it was for the guys.
I mean, if the weather lays down, challenging, well, great, like, go out and get it.
But if, you know, if it blows 25 and, you know, it's 40 degrees, then, yeah,
like, you're going to see some super high scores.
I thought it was great.
I'm obviously, well, not obviously, but I'm a little biased because the year that I won the mid,
we did the two-course situation as well.
I thought it was kind of weird, to be totally honest,
but I obviously understand that Pinehurst wants to market, you know, number four.
Not to mention it's really good, especially for everyday non-competitive golfers.
So if I was running the tournament, would I do?
I'd probably not.
You spent the whole week, you know, on number two, so you may as well finish it there.
Was it a bad idea?
No, it was creative.
It's fine.
Not a problem.

So our debate was there's a match of brewing between myself and Kisner here at Pioneer's
number two.
And we're trying to figure out the proper format to make it close without just going strokes,
which we could end up doing that.
I'm sure that'd be fine.
one thing that was thrown out was if I play the red T's,
which are like 5,200 yards, 5300 yards,
and Kiz plays the tips, which are like 7,600 yards,
I'm a 7 handicap right now.
Would that be competitiveness or competitive?
And then another one was,
if we just played the tips,
could us four play scramble?
We've got like a 7 and 8, a 10,
and like a 20 or 25 handicap.
Could we playing the tips with kids?
would we win in a four-man scramble?
The second one's going to be a much closer option.
The first one, it goes back to you don't, I mean,
Kiz is going to shoot no higher than 74 at worst.
I am going to shoot higher than 74.
Yeah, yeah.
That was really nice.
The second option, like it goes back to, with all due respect,
people don't understand how good the boys are.
If Kiz is sharp, I mean, I've heard the stories about him, you know, this ain't no hobby or whatever.
But like, even if he's boozing, you know, he's really good at golf.
And that's what it comes down to.
So unless you think you can at worst break 74 or 5, I think that's not it.
I would do a scramble.
There's another thing you could do where like, I don't know how to do this, but maybe do it like with shots.
If you guys both played the same T because the T doesn't really matter out there.
It's more about like you have to hit the fairway and then the second shot, right?
you know that you've been there for a month.
Yeah, two or three.
Two or three.
I would play, because he's going to be a plus,
at worst, a plus five,
probably a plus six,
then you're what a seven or eight?
I would do,
when you're playing with Kisner,
I would do,
I would ask him to give you a shot a hole.
It's called an even 14.
So that's pretty much,
that's what we did at Palmetto.
I think it was 14.
Okay.
And he beat me five and four.
but so here's so here's so here's a job that's just that you're robin but it's an ass kicking
holy shit but i did par like the last four holes after the match was over so i you know
do uh that's just okay whatever but he was using a part five he was using a five iron
he was using a five iron during this also maybe mentally like you felt like the way it's also it's
also it's home course and you know it's your first time playing with him and maybe you
don't want to admit it but maybe i mean like if i was playing with someone like that i'd be like
holy crap that's a PJ tour player so I was like that the whole time I was saying that out loud
oh my god that's Kevin Kisner hitting a golf show oh my god he's got another shot for birdie I'm in the
fucking trees trying to make a bogey like so you guys figure out you guys figure out the handicap what you
should do to make it fun is like if one of you guys loses a hole then the or if one of you
wins a hole then the other one you get to like pick a club out of their bag they can no longer use
that's a fun game I don't hate that at all yeah so like if you win a hole you could be like hey man
you can't use your money maker whatever he calls it you can't use the putter or you can't
not that like that would matter, but like, you know, you can't use the driver or whatever.
I don't know.
Make it fun.
It'd be tough if I lose the first hole.
He takes my putter out of it.
I mean, it's over.
He can, right?
I mean, I've seen some of the daily nine things.
What it really make a difference?
I'm sorry.
That was,
that was good.
No, that was good.
At least you're watching.
That's huge.
Man, that's freaking.
Hey, let's get those numbers out, baby.
That's scramble, man.
That has real potential to be something tight.
I'm telling you.
Us four hacking it from 7,600 yards.
we may be able to get to that 73, 74 score.
We may be able to do it.
I think you guys should play it like 68.
He should play it all the way back.
And also like if you guys do the scramble,
that leads the most like for shit talking.
And again, what are we all about views?
No numbers, baby.
I do think we could, we would be,
I think we have to beat him if we do a four man scramble from the tips.
We have to beat him.
We have to.
That's so demoralizing.
We get four looks at every put.
Four looks.
We get four looks from the best possible spot.
out of four balls.
All day.
Dude, that would be such good TV viewing.
You need to do that.
God damn.
I think we got to do that.
We got to find a way to do that.
And also,
Kiz has made it very clear
that he's going to be tour kids.
Like when we played with him at Palmetto,
he was booze and he was in a hoodie.
Like,
it wasn't that serious.
But then he told Riggs that he's going to go to bed
at 10 p.m.
the night before.
He's going to be all business.
He's not going to drink?
And that could be a real problem for us.
He bringing Dewey?
Like,
he's going to have his like easy cart shirts
in the whole bit?
He has to. He has to. If I don't see that NASCAR kids with the fucking billboard is all over him,
then it's not serious enough. But yeah, he does. Like the money is, we're playing for money for the
foundation. You know, winner gets 70% of the pool of whatever money we raise. So he's very serious
about winning. I love it. Not good. I'll be watching. I'll tune in. Appreciate that. Man,
we'll see. I don't know. I'm a little nervous. I'm like, I think we got to do the scramble. We've got to
figure out our way to do the scramble. We got to get everybody down here. U.S. Open course.
Heiners number two.
We're going to have all the boys.
We're going to be stradjazzigan.
I got to get someone doing pizza reviews,
but if that happens,
I'm like,
I'm there.
If there's any way to get,
like,
walking scores,
like,
you know,
make it super official.
Dude,
us four hitting from the same spot
and him laughing at us,
like all four of us
hitting bad shots
and him just dying,
like,
you guys suck.
Especially when they're like,
when three of us have already shanked to a shot.
So they're,
Hero shot.
It's like, all right, Lurch, don't fuck it up.
The other three guys are in the water over there.
Also, what about like, what about the cut?
To be in the water.
What about us just, like, hitting a huge putt, like, the fourth guy, got three
raids and we hit a bomb to, like, save the match.
We go fucking berserk.
Well, dude, how about when Lurch made the putt, or not Lurch, when, you know.
Trent made the putt in Australia, you know, like a mile away.
Best put in four play history.
Yes, of course.
Best putt of my life, best putt in four play history.
It doesn't get any better.
I'm going to watch that again today.
I'm going to want to.
Imagine you did that at Pyrus number two in a match against kids.
We're all, I mean, you can't hug each other, I guess, or we could go nuts.
We're going to go nuts.
Yeah.
And you should.
You should.
Yeah.
Wow.
All right.
Well, we're going to keep everybody posting.
We've got to figure out a way to do this.
Sue, anything else on your mind?
Anything you got before we part ways here?
Not much.
Um, I don't know.
Like, what are you?
we got to have like something out there right well i don't know when are you coming back to new york
when you come into the west coast what uh never never wow i don't know you know i don't you know i'm
people keep asking when you're leaving well it's like i don't i'm not going to go back to new york city
right now because no fits to trump but that's like the most problematic epicenter place in the
middle of a global pandemic and the history of the world yep um i don't want to go out and see my
parents right now in case i bring something to them unknowingly um i don't want to
want to have to kind of live and navigate that whole world. And I've got a great setup at
Pyhears where they have, you know, nine and a half golf courses. And I get to practice
for a match against Kisner that I may be partaking with my good friends here. So I don't know.
I don't know when I'm only. Yeah. That makes sense. I feel like with the, with the deal,
you kind of got to commit one way or the other. Like, I don't know. Like if you're going to get it,
like you're going to get it. Right. Like that's not at all the right thing to say. But like, shoot.
Like two of my best friends and I like just all to keep each other sane and our families are like on board with it.
We're like, listen, you know, we'll be like respected, you know, respectful and socially distant and all that.
But like if one of us gets it, we're all getting it.
And again, like that's not the right way to go about it.
But like we will stay.
Yeah, I think like within households and stuff that's not, right?
There's like a certain element of being tight with family or other people that are like, okay, if we all get it, we're confident that we've done the research that everyone should hopefully be okay.
nothing's promised, but like, we're still going to have dinner together.
Yeah.
Like, we're not like, right.
We're not like bear hugging and left.
It's like, no, like, you know, we bring respective booze and get together every now and then outside and do whatever.
Outside's a nice place to be.
It's just a better, being outside's key.
We need, we just need something.
We need live sports.
I know.
What are you binge in right now?
You watching shows?
What are you watching?
So I'm so fired up to watch the episodes of The Last Dance.
Like, can we talk about that for a minute?
What an absolute killer.
I mean, Trent had some laugh at a lot of funny tweets last night.
But Michael Jordan telling us that we've never won anything in our lives and we don't know how to compete is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Like last night was so, so good.
I didn't watch it.
So I was, I mean, it was like on ESPN, they have like you can stream the whole thing.
And I just like didn't want to deal with commercials.
I'm like, no.
Oh, dude.
You got to watch it.
I'll have to watch it right now.
You'll see it.
It's the one time in all of the episodes where he looks into the camera and says,
you don't understand because you've never won anything.
And he's talking to all of us.
And then he starts to get emotional.
Like Frankie's saying, there's some of the best episodes of the entire thing.
You got to watch it.
I actually am in the same boat as Stewart.
And I think he's frozen.
So I'll just speak for a second.
But I was beat up last night.
So I didn't watch it.
So I'm going to go on YouTube TV.
It's just like, you know, it's not stuff that you're surprised.
You go into it being like, I know Michael Jordan is.
I was a little, I was too young to know who really Michael Jordan was.
I mean, his dad was found dead up the day I was born.
I noticed that.
My date popped up on the screen.
I was like, whoa, that's a dark.
Oh, wow.
So like I was super young.
Like, whatever.
He was in his reign from like 90, from 1990 till 98, 99, whatever it was.
Like, I was three or four years old.
Whatever.
So watching this, like, you know who Michael Jordan is.
But like, it's amazing to see how much of a super.
star he was at the time.
Like, you almost think, like, oh, like, maybe it's just like the allure of the, like,
who he was now.
Like, oh, yeah, like, he was the best of all time.
But, like, at the time, man, he couldn't leave his, every time he opened up a door,
it was like the Beatles were there.
It was, like, I think that was two weeks ago where they, where he said I couldn't walk
anywhere that scene where every single door he opened up, there was a hundred thousand people
waiting outside.
Right.
That's something I've never seen before from that angle of, like, all the cameras.
Like, how, how do they know where he?
is at all times number one like that's crazy to me remember when they did that thing where he's like
sitting at you know alone in his hotel room and he's like these are the most peaceful times like that's just
so wild to even like fathom like all you want to do like he he literally and tigers in the same category
too like you can't even go to the grocery store without being like mauled by people like that's
crazy it almost feels like tiger like tiger almost seems maybe it was more back in the day but like even
now like you'll see some pictures like i follow that tiger woods doing things instagram i do too
He's still able to like push a cart at like the mall.
And people are definitely taking pictures of him.
But like MJ couldn't even walk to his car to the point where people were like physically trying to touch him.
Like I've never seen anything like that in my life.
So I don't know how he did it.
And then he just quit basketball.
It's just the most it's the most stunning story.
It feels fake.
It feels like you couldn't even script it to write a movie.
Like this guy is going to be the best player of all time.
He's going to be the coolest motherfucker on the planet.
he's so cool he's like the way he calls people out he's so cool calling people hoax and shit like he's
even though cool even the little things he does like smokes a cigar drinks whatever he's drinking it's
like damn it you're cool when they show him he's the number one guy in terms of like comfortable
he's comfortable on his own skin oh comfortability you got there comfortability when they show him
those clips of other guys saying things of like historical when they show him the other clips and he's laughing
I know.
They did Gary Payton,
and I don't want to ruin it for school.
Yeah, I know they have.
No, no,
it's cool.
It's cool.
It's cool.
But he murders Gary Payton in these latest episodes.
Because Gary Payton's like,
I had him in this finals.
I had him.
And then they show Jordan watching it.
And he lets out a villain laugh.
It is,
it's so good.
You have a lot of the studios we're done.
We always talk about how like Jordan's a golfer and we see all the clips and stuff
and how he gambles people's net warrants on the golf course.
But like,
what is his,
like,
his game at?
Like, where is his game at?
Was he, do we know, like, what kind of there he is?
Yeah, like, is he a scratch?
Is he a 10 handicap?
Like, what is Michael Jordan shooting?
I mean, go ahead.
Yeah, I know what I know.
Yeah.
I've heard that he's like around a six or seven,
but that things get intense, he's like a two.
You know, he nailed it.
I've heard he's like a very fun, easy going, like six to eight.
And then when things clamp down, like, it's straight business.
And he can, like, he's a really good seven.
Yeah, that's, I think I've heard like Keegan was telling us that.
Like, yeah, he, he can't turn off his, like, Michael Jordan.
So he's having a great time.
He's having Stogies.
He's having drinks.
He's laughing it up.
He's busting balls.
And then, like, when you get on that 16th tee and the match is tight, he goes from a seven to, like,
he fucking plays the last three holes at 100 par.
And you're like, that's Michael Jordan.
It's like, it's like baseball.
He just goes and plays baseball.
Everyone's like, it's a joke.
He started his baseball career with a 13-game hitting streak.
and with batting 200, like in the double A, never played baseball before until he was 16.
If you YouTube, there's a YouTube video where it goes into being like,
this guy was not only like a very respectful baseball player after not having played for like 15 years,
but like easily like could have added value to teams.
Yes.
That's outrageous.
Terry Francona said if you had 1,500 at bats, he would have been an MLB player.
If you just had more chances.
Hitting a baseball might be the hardest thing in all the sports.
And he was just like 13 games in a row right at to.
start my career.
Crazy.
And we can't hit a fucking golf ball straight.
I just,
can I just one time just be able to hit a golf ball relatively straight and do a
fucking 50 yard wide runway?
Like how hard could that be?
Stu, who's got the best?
So eliminating what you know of us,
if you were to see all four of our games,
who would you say has the most potential to be the best golfer out of all four of us?
Deep and thought.
Yeah, he is currently deep and thought.
He's scratching his face.
I think.
chin massage.
You have the best move at it.
Like yours looks the most athletic.
I mean,
that's why you have the best, like, technical, right?
But I do think that, again, like, knowing what little I know, like, I do think if Riggs
were to practice, like, a little bit better and, like, maybe tidy up a couple things.
Like, I think that, like, is he going to go out and, like, playing USJ events?
Probably not.
Like, could he go out and shoot?
like between 70 and 75.
Yeah.
How much?
Hell yeah.
How deep are you going to go right now,
right?
I don't know your games as well,
so I just can't talk,
so I'm sorry.
I'm going to be so deep at practice right that.
He didn't say,
he didn't say practice more.
Practice right.
He said practice better,
and that's going to be a living side of your brain,
what are you doing?
What does that mean?
Stu?
Hey, man,
I know what you're chasing.
We texted about this morning.
I'm on board.
I'm on your program.
I get it.
Yeah, right.
I got it.
Hey,
I got a question,
though. Who do you like in these matches coming up? What are we thinking?
Anything that Tiger Woods is involved in, he wins.
Amazing. Love that. Yeah, I like Tiger a lot. I don't know if people knew that.
I think Tiger is going to win. And then I also, in the other one, I actually think Ricky and Matt Wolf are going to win.
Why? I'm just curious.
We're not an analysis program. No, I don't. Go like straight Brandl-Chamblee on it.
Like, because I want, like, stats and go in.
I was really noticing on their Instagram story with the Bersimmis,
his, uh, is actually, look, no, I, um, I think Matt Wolfe is sort of a,
a real actual fucking badass competitor.
And I think he's going to kind of bring Ricky.
Like, he's going to bring some, and obviously they've got the connection.
They're, um, you know, they're both okay state guys.
So they're going to be all jacked up.
So I think that they're going to have that kind of connection.
I think like getting DJ and Rory, uh, together is going to be.
like DJ is going to be on some other planet.
Yeah.
And Rory and they're getting by the time they gel and figure things out,
they're going to be 11 or 12 holes in.
I think Ricky and Matt Wolf are going to have the advantage.
I think that it's all closer that people are going to give them credit for
because everybody's like, who are these no-name guys?
Not that Rick is no name, but compared to Rory and DJ
and their total wins and all that.
So I'm going to go.
I think the better way to bet is going to be Matt Wolf and Ricky.
Totally agree.
I love it.
Yeah.
No, you look at these guys are like number one in the world.
and it's like, well, this boys are pretty good too.
So no, I get it.
They're so good.
I don't think people understand that.
Everyone's responding, like, what a mismatch.
Like, no, no, if you just watch these two in any Tuesday practice round, it would be a 50-50 split.
Dude, Matt Wolf won NCAA is by 8 on a golf course that is like incredibly wildly, like, U.S.
open borderline unfair hard.
So, like, yeah, not real.
I went to look for my luggage that has the Oklahoma State sticker on the front.
I just can't find it.
I don't know what the fuck.
I don't know where it is.
Don't you have one on your laptop?
I guess you're on your lap.
Oh, you can't turn it around.
Fuck, I didn't think about that.
Or if you took a picture on your phone and then showed it on right now.
It's not worth it.
Hashtag golf school.
Yeah.
All right, you tried.
Swinging Pete.
All right, Stu.
Pistol Pete.
Are you excited for these golf matches?
Kind of.
Yeah.
You know, it's sports and it's content.
And I think we're all like totally thirsty and craving that type of stuff in any capacity.
Dude, like I got really.
into like yells marble runs on YouTube like I just I need sports um it's a really dark hole
definitely don't look at it um but yeah no it'll be cool and part of me is interested to see
how they play seminal um i would be be a dream come true to be on that walker cup team in a year
um but there's obviously a lot of work to to be done before then but um no like these are the best
some of the best players in the world and it'll be really interesting just to kind of watch you know how
they play a golf course that I personally think is one of the best in the world and has a
ton of little intricacies and yeah it'll be awesome. I was going to say your guy that's had to
have played seminal a few different times. What are we what are we here to expect? Because it is one
of those courses. I think we looked it up the other day. It's like 13th or 12 from the entire country
in terms of the latest Gulf Digest rankings and it's one of those that nobody really
knows anything about. I mean yeah, if you're a little bit, oh yeah, Donald Ross is down
in those spots, it's always a high in the rankings, but you don't know anything about the
whole by hole and course. So what can we expect? Yeah. So they have a little bit.
have a mid-am event down there called the Coleman that's at the tail end of April. So I've had the
chance to play it a few times. And it's just, it's a really special place. And I've been fortunate
to have played some really cool ones. I know everyone's feelings on, you know, places that are
seen as stuffy and, you know, walking on eggshells and that type of stuff, totally get it,
totally understand. The way that Seminole was first described to me is, ironically by Seth,
Wah, who was on your show, you know, a handful of times ago. He, his comment, his comment
to me was I think that Seminole has the highest golf IQ of any place, not just in the country, but in the world.
So, you know, you've got eight or nine Walker Cup captains down there. You've got a lot of guys.
It's always been my belief that the East Coast has a way higher golf IQ, generally speaking,
as opposed to the West Coast. And I'm sure that'll upset some people. And I'm sorry, but, you know,
like people on the East Coast ride so hard for good golfers. And it's awesome for me. Obviously, I love it.
But no, it's just they read the books and they're interested and they want to play all these places.
they make sacrifices to go and see them.
And I think that one thing that Seminole does a really nice job of is when you are there,
you know,
on campus,
so to speak,
um,
everyone loves golf and they've seen all the places,
or,
you know,
the places around the country and the world and they've,
they understand,
you know,
bits of design,
not that like,
like,
I'm a golf course,
aficionado or anything like that,
but they know what the beer it is.
They know what the template holes are and,
you know,
long, short,
you know,
redan,
all that type of stuff.
They understand how,
you know,
different wind directions,
you know,
influence certain holes and how,
how, again, Scott Fawcett may not agree, but, you know, how angles, you know, play differently,
you know, visually or just in different ways you can kind of hit into the greens. Like the third
hole, you can play it short right and have an easy little chip or you can be more aggressive
and leave it in a place that's absolutely dead. You guys will see when the whole thing, you know,
comes live to TV. But it's just, it's a really, really neat place that I think, as we talked about
before, if you want to take it super low, you got to be patient, you got to leave a little
the whole you got to understand the intricacies of the course and if you're not quite as
skilled i guess per se you know you can still play it but it's such a fun challenge so no it'll be
cool and i'm i'm looking forward to it it'll be good all right stew i think that's all i got i don't know
if anybody else has anything oh they put they put my mustache on the instagram it's getting
fucking torched it's getting absolutely torched
dude i had i was laughing mid like while he's describing everything
And I just like, I mean, my phone exploded.
Like I, I have notifications off on everything,
but I couldn't believe how many people reach out to me.
So it's on your Instagram?
It's on the foreplay Instagram.
I mean,
I couldn't believe our producers just fucking shanked me like that.
Yeah, they're getting,
they're getting pretty ruthless these days.
Holy shit.
Yeah.
It's on the main Instagram, man.
Full, four play Instagram.
All you see is my, is my face.
The post or the story?
Oh, my gosh.
awful. It's a really good
post, though. It's a really good post.
As I looking at it doesn't even look that bad on
video. You got a little flavor saver
down here too. Yeah, you do.
I got something stuck in there. I was eating the other day.
I got something stuck in there. It was bad. It was like a little
popcorn pellet right there.
It was just stuck there. As I was talking, it was
moving up and down. That feels like something he might do on purpose
to be like, oh, wow, this thing really is coming in.
I mean, it's just, I mean, there's nothing down there.
It's just pubs, but. Yeah, whatever
this thing is, whatever that's called.
Whatever, man.
it is what it is yeah sorry frank sorry about that we're not supposed to like you know you know when
you're in quarantine you think like oh i have a chance to grow this and like no one's gonna see at each
because we can't leave our house but then you come on this podcast and then it gets put on
on instagram for like half a million people to look at and you just don't like do that math when you're
well no i'm not leaving my house i'm actually leaving my house more than i ever have by being put on that
instagram so oh so last night i'm down at my mom's place and i have two younger brothers and they
went to this school then in San Diego.
And I guess they have like some administrator that will occasionally like not unannounced
come into like school Zoom calls and ask people to back up like 10 feet to see if they're in
school uniform and they're giving out like detentions.
And holy smoke.
Can you imagine?
No, no, no, no, no.
That's like as a parent.
No way.
Like that's insane.
That's not crazy.
That's insane.
That is.
Also, what is detention like at home?
Like you have to go sit in a car.
I ask that.
No, you have to spend an app.
to spend an hour on the computer sharing the screen with the, uh, with the administrator.
No, that's big, that's legitimate big brother stuff. You can't that's, that's,
that's, yeah, that's great. Those are the kids end up like, you know, not like following authority
because they just, they just can't take it in. I didn't know where you were going to go.
I thought you could have said anything. I said following authority. That's what I said. I said,
that's about as political as that can get. You, you, you went the other way quickly. You were like,
I'm going to say, it's just not the way to, it's not the way to, like,
disciplined kids. That's crazy to have them sit there and stare at a scree. Like, come on,
we're all going through a lot of shit right now. There's no reason why. Because the kids end up with
tattoos on their face. Yes, exactly. Okay. Again, that's not. I like post-malon, but yeah.
All right, Stu, I know you're busy. Well, I don't know if you're busy. You might not be busy.
I don't know. But it's just one of the things I feel like you are. If you are, screw you, you're not.
Yeah, that's just, I feel like I have to say that sometimes.
Quarantine has taken that away from us that we can't, like, get out of things. Like, you can't, like, not
answer calls now because like what else are you doing yeah yeah yeah it's on your head you're
at home doing nothing uh but anyways what i was trying to do is use that to say bye it's kind of what
i was going to do yeah so thank you for joining us had a great time i hope you continue your great
amateur golf career and if you ever turn pro you could thank us for convincing you to do it on the show
