Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, 4Play listeners, you can find us every Tuesday and Thursday on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube. Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. We got a great show for you today. Folks, I'll brought to you by Chevy, which is the heartbeat of America, a little bit ironic, as Trent, one of our esteemed co-host is not in America during this, but he was doing a little recon for Americans, doing it from London, you know, checking in on the rest of the world. And we got a lovely show today with a lot of, we got the block party, we got some block party talk. We got a great story from Tom Kim.
Starting point is 00:00:31 We got kids recap and his festival. Trent is in London. And it's all brought to you by Chevy today, folks. Yeah, Chevy, great American car. Haven't seen enough of them. I need to, I can't wait to get back home and see way more Chevroletes. It's great, you know, great American car company. And yeah, we got a great show.
Starting point is 00:00:50 That's the three of us, the three amigos. And all brought to you by Chevrolet. They got the spacious traverse. They got the flexible equinox, which easily transitions from office commutes to quick stops at the range and full on course. Dave, Chevy's been supporting us for a while. They make all of this happen and possible, so we appreciate Chevy, building great America cars for over a century now.
Starting point is 00:01:13 Check out the entire lineup of Chevys at Chevy.com. Once again, go check them out at this link, which is Chevy.com. I've got a buddy who struggles with that shot. A lot of his name's Frankie Burrilli. So the guys actually gave him a nickname, Nick. name of butter knives because he always knives to the cops of the green. Broke 100. Now you've got to break 90.
Starting point is 00:01:36 We appreciate what you guys do for golf. It's really cool. Thank you. You're making it cool. We appreciate it. I was like, hey, Phil, you only fucking 2999. And he grabs 100. He's like, yeah, I won 90,000 of these yesterday.
Starting point is 00:01:47 He goes, take 100 and you go fuck yourself. What? What are you guys fishing? It's a hobby. Foreplay. We're right barstool sports. We are back. got myself, Kiz and Trent. Frankie is, you know, he's coming back from a little vacation.
Starting point is 00:02:03 He's got the family in the car. We got Trent in London. We got me and kids both yesterday. I think we're voiceless. And now we have kind of gotten some voices back. So this is just going to be a post, you know, President's Cup has been over. Team golf's been over. The PJ tour is now in like the fall silly season. And it's October 6th. Football's cooking. Sunday, fun days might be happening. and then we're sitting here Monday and we record a golf show. I had 11 friends staying at my house in Pinehurst from about Wednesday night until about 12 hours ago. So it's going to be one of those shows. We actually do have a lot to talk about.
Starting point is 00:02:38 We got like plagues in Russia. We got the Gamecocks with a heartbreaking loss for our guy, Ryan Richardson. We got a couple big winners in the golf world. So we're back. I want to hear about a little London action from Trent because I've only been to London one time. I absolutely love it. I know you're out there hanging right now. Yeah, a little across the pond vacation. It's my first time in London as well. It's been great so far. I will say, like, I'm not great on red eyes. I've sort of made a stance in my, because we travel a lot. And one of the things I just really don't want to do is do a red eye flight. But coming over here, you kind of have to, you take off from New York City at 8 p.m. and you land at 9 a.m. And the goal is to just stay up that whole first day because then it resets your body clock to be.
Starting point is 00:03:27 on their time once you sleep the next night. And that was just a battle. That was a full on battle. Did not make it the whole way. I ended up taking a nap halfway through the day. Because you land and you're like, all right, the longer we stay up, the longer,
Starting point is 00:03:40 the better tomorrow's going to feel. So you're just like fight through, fight through. You've got all this adrenaline. You're in London for the first time. You're excited. And then after like four hours, you've kind of walked around the area near your hotel.
Starting point is 00:03:51 You don't want to do anything too crazy because you're exhausted. And then around like the afternoon, you're like, we have a decision to make. We're either going to go crazy and, like, lose our minds, have a legitimate mental break, or if we just lay down for an hour and a half, we're going to feel way better. I did that. And it ended up working out fine.
Starting point is 00:04:09 So far, I'm in a good headspace. But, yeah, I mean, I've been here a day and a half, two days. So went to Kensington Gardens a little bit ago, did a tour there, had afternoon tea. I'm doing all of the London things because it's my first time. Oh, afternoon tea for the young man. How nice is that? I just can't believe you could wake up after an hour and a half nap. There's just no way.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Midday nap after no sleep. It's impressive. How about this? So lay down and 20 minutes into the laydown, the fire alarm goes off in the hotel. And I felt like I woke up on Mars. I woke up and I was like, is it day, is it night? Is the building on fire? What's the plan right now?
Starting point is 00:04:49 So you have to go outside. You have to wait. And I ended up, I had been sleeping for 11 minutes. My whoop legitimately said it was like, you were, you took an eight minute nap. And I'm like, that's not enough, brother. That's not enough. So then you're, you're standing out there. Your clothes are disheveled because you just got woken up out of a red eye dead sleep for 11 minutes.
Starting point is 00:05:08 And then how about this? This is going to sound super random. I'm standing out there in front of the hotel and I see Billy Jean King. What? Dude. I don't even know, like, if you had asked me before that moment, what is Billy Jean, Billy Jean King looked like. I would have a general idea, but as soon as I saw her,
Starting point is 00:05:29 I was like, that's Billy Jean King. So whether she's staying somewhere near, maybe she's in the hotel too, she got woken up out of a nap just like me. And then later on that night after the nap, I saw Billy Jean King again. I can't stop seeing Billy Jean King in London. It's really been my number one takeaway so far.
Starting point is 00:05:44 That's amazing. That's an incredible run into. Yeah, the, you know, the hotel, like, someone tells you go to, too, they hit you with like the four or five, PM like check in from the housekeeping sometimes. And that's always real exposing when I'm like napping and just doing nothing in the afternoon. And they're like, whoa, I didn't know anybody's going to be here.
Starting point is 00:06:03 You're like, I didn't really know you were going to call me out for being a piece of shit in the middle of the afternoon. So I can imagine with the with the fire alarm going off, you're out there like, damn, I was definitely sleeping guys. Sorry about that. Yeah. But no, it's been good. I like, we travel so much and I've seen so much of the United States of America that we
Starting point is 00:06:22 You know, we went to Scotland two years ago. We went to Ireland earlier this year. We just haven't done a ton of Europe, at least like my, even my personal travels. Like I'm on right now, I haven't done a ton of Europe. So I was like, let's go to London and stay there for a little less than a week and just like try it out because I, I just like, it sounds so. When you get to travel, you get to experience so many different things. And London was one where I was like, that's something I want to experience it. I want to feel that culture.
Starting point is 00:06:48 I want cars going down the other side of the road. I want different architecture. I want, you know, it's just like all this different stuff that like once you've traveled enough, you sort of just want to keep filling that that palette. And London was definitely a big one on my checklist. We also just don't do a ton of non-golf traveling. That's like we're, that's what we do. And golf just takes up the entire trip.
Starting point is 00:07:08 It's like the reason that you're in a certain part of wherever you're at. It's the entire day after it's over. You know, you're usually like, we try to. And I think like you and Frank, you're pretty, been pretty good about this for the last couple of years. Frankie and Brendan will get really into it, but it's like trying to really force ourselves to go to the nice restaurant or if we're in New Orleans, like go out, wherever. But a lot of times it's like you eat out of like necessity, not out of enjoyment of seeing a place. You know, it's just like I'm exhausted. I'll beat up.
Starting point is 00:07:38 We've got to do this again tomorrow. We've been like drinking, traveling, playing golf. I just want to go to sleep and wake up and have some sort of energy tomorrow. So to do like non-golf travel, I feel like, it's very unique and indifferent. I always feel like a duck out of water on non-golf track. Like, obviously, that's all I've done my whole life. But with, you know, Brittany books a vacation for me. And I get there and I wake up.
Starting point is 00:08:00 And I'm like, so what do we do? Like, do we have to like go find something to do? Did you plan anything? You're just in this random town and you want me to just hang out, I guess? Is that what you want to do? The whole thing is just getting from each meal to another meal is basically what, like, vacation is. It is. Like, all right.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Yeah. woke up. You guys want to do breakfast? Let's do breakfast. That's a great idea. And then you eat breakfast. You're like, well, what are we going to do till lunch? Just out at this point.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Oh, yeah. I mean, listen, you can rest assured. I didn't do a ton of the planning for the travel on this trip. But it is that like the dinners were the tent pulls of the whole trip where you're like, let's in all of these restaurants. And then, yeah, you got to fill the days. You got to go on tours. We went down the Tim's River, I believe, is how you pronounce it.
Starting point is 00:08:47 We saw Big Ben. Like it's, yeah, you've got to fill your days because they're, they're long days when you don't have anything to do. Yeah, we went on a trip to Italy last year for 10 days. And boy, they love their wine and alcohol there. So it's like, I'm not a good candidate for your country because I will partake at like breakfast. Yeah, I'll try a glass of wine if that's what you're going to serve. And then you just drink until your wife tells you this is where we're going for lunch. And then you do it all over again.
Starting point is 00:09:14 And then you go, now to what we like, just like Rick said, then it's dinner time. We got to get ready to go to dinner. at this place. I'm okay. Let's do it. Maybe mix in like a hike, you know, people do hiking just to say that you did something other than eat, I think, for like the whole trip. We did, uh, speaking of hiking. We did a hike,
Starting point is 00:09:30 uh, in Italy. It was called the path of the gods hike. Um, and our travel itinerate said just a leisurely stroll down the mountain. Boys, I have, I have walked more miles than everyone combined on this podcast. And I told the guy that he was a fucking insane
Starting point is 00:09:47 halfway he when he stopped us two and a half hours in i was like think god where how do we get off this fucking hill and he goes all right guys we've we've made it to the halfway point oh and i said do you have anybody that owns a helicopter that i can pay to pick me up i am done walking this fucking mouth if you had a weapon and some animals to hunt i would do it all day but just walking i'm out that is that is when i wish the guy just like had a gun and like put it in your hand he's like here you go and now kids like oh i could go all day i'll do this for the rest of the evening if you want all day tell me what i'm hunting baby we always do like a little hike whenever i go out to colorado visit my parents and my brother's family will come out there all the time and i always think
Starting point is 00:10:28 every time we do the hike i'm like we're not halfway until we turn around so as we're hiking right now like we're we're still on the first half and we're getting farther we're getting farther and that's not good so i know once we turn around i'm like all right thank god i actually have a finite length for what this hike is because beforehand we could just walk in the wrong forever. We're never going to get this hike over with. But yeah, I remember loving London. London is my kind of city, a lot of pubs, a lot of history. So, all right, let's get into a little golf, gentlemen.
Starting point is 00:11:02 We have a little daylight savings time getting into the golf world that I found incredibly interesting. So President Trump has, you know, come up with the Sunshine Protection Act, which is essentially permanent daylight savings. just like not doing it, which is what Arizona does, which what we've done in Arizona, which was a shock to me when I move there when we do this podcast for half the year, two hours behind you guys on the East Coast and for the other half of the year, I'm three hours behind you guys. Daylight Savings Times, I feel like most of my life, daylight savings time was just accepted
Starting point is 00:11:37 as just it is what it is. Nobody really knew why. I do think in the last three, four, five years, I've heard people kind of pitching about it here and there, falling backwards, all of it. Well, Brian Rollop and the PGA tour put out a letter in big time support of permanent daylight savings time. A quote from Brian Rollop was the window for people essentially described that like most people in a growing game of golf, their window for getting out and experience that golf is pretty much wedged into, no pun intended. Their busy lives, they either play a little bit range time after work.
Starting point is 00:12:14 They squeeze in nine holes with their kids right before dark. And if we expand that by an hour each day, that's going to help a lot of people out. The National Golf Course Owners Association, which I didn't know that was a thing, estimates that permanent DST would generate 23 million additional rounds and $1 billion annually in new direct revenue for the golf industry, which kind of blew me away. But it sounds like, gents, you know, if this goes through, we might be changed. Daylight Savings Time, which is not something I guess I ever thought I would see. I just kind of thought it was going to be one way in this country for pretty much never.
Starting point is 00:12:53 What are the, what are the chances they're going to get it to go through? I really don't know. I don't know. A couple senators or something came across my desk against it. So I was just curious if you had any feel for it actually getting through. What are the arguments for not? being dark in the morning time when kids go to school is a big argument I kept seeing like it won't get light to 8.30 in the morning and your kids have to be at school by 745, 815 dropping your kids off in the dark to go to school, bus driving, bus pickups, all the things. So just to back it up for a second, because also another thing when I'm out of the country, I remember this happening when I was in Ireland, I completely lose track of anything that's going on in America.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Like I remember the NBA finals is going on. We're in Ireland. The MLB playoffs are going on right now. And I just like don't really have a like a gauge of what's going on. And this story in particular, you're saying that Brian Rolap and that and the crew are taking forth legislation to try to get this going. He wrote a big letter. Big letter in support to President Trump. And President Trump put it out there.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Yeah. So, you know, I don't think roll up is in there, you know, cutting bills. but I think he essentially, he did. He wrote like a pretty lengthy letter in support of this and being like the PGA tour fully supports this. This would be huge for the golf industry. Obviously knowing that President Trump is a big golf industry kind of guy. And yeah, you know, I think about that when you, when you,
Starting point is 00:14:29 there are like some shocking days at how late it stays dark in the morning, especially like in Arizona. We have the day by the savings times kind of swapped or it's or it's whatever, it's skewed because we don't do it. But yeah, I was thinking like there's really no action in the morning, right? I mean, in the evening, that extra hour of daylight, like people are sitting outside patio, they're more likely to be in a good mood because the depression's not going to hit as hard if it's dark at 530 or 6 instead of like 430. So I feel like economically and all that, that argument makes a lot more sense to me than we need to make sure that like the bus drivers
Starting point is 00:15:04 can see in the morning because of daylight. It's sort of like, yeah, that's how I would be. it. Yeah, I see nothing but benefit. I'm also a guy who doesn't have kids, but, but like also in that regard, like, you just got a, I think you would just get used to it. You'd have like one, after five years, everyone would be like, remember when we used to switch the clocks a couple times a year and how weird that was? Because it is a strange thing. And I haven't really done the research on why they used to do it. I think it had something to do with farmers. And I'm sure there's a ton of backstory as to as why daylight savings time is a thing. But yeah, for me, I've always I love the Arizona way to do it where you're just like, no, let's keep our clocks the same.
Starting point is 00:15:43 And I think things would mostly say the same. I don't see any sort of, I can't foresee any sort of really bad ramification down the line that we're not seeing right now. You know what I mean? Yeah. I'm kind of on the same with you. I think the benefit of the extra hour in the afternoon far outseeds the hurt of the darkness in the morning time, right? Because I just can go through my head when it changes. My son wants to go hit balls after school,
Starting point is 00:16:10 but he has like 45 minutes until he can't see his ball anymore. By the time he gets home, does his homework, changes his clothes. It's dark at 5 o'clock, 515, once we start switching over. Right. So you got to pick one or the other.
Starting point is 00:16:23 I'm kind of on the, I'd rather my kids play outside in the afternoon and go to school in the dark. I agree. I think the PGA tour agree. So we'll see. I don't know, I don't know, the likelihood of it passed here or not passing.
Starting point is 00:16:33 I don't know that the PGA tour endorsing it has a ton of impact on anything. I don't think it does. But it's just really funny to me that because I didn't know anything about this letter. And for Brian Rolap, one of the things on his agenda that day was I got to write a long letter about the son. What I thought, speaking of that, Trent, is right when I saw Trump put the letter out, all I thought about was Brian Rolap spent the entire Sunday with Donald Trump at the President's Cup. And I'm sure Donald was like, hey, man, I need some help. We got to get this bill passed.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Can you help me out? That was the first thing that went at my brain. He did allude to it in the beginning. He was like, great spending time with you at the President's Cup, you know, all that. And then he said, like, like we talked about, I would like to fully, you know, list my support for all this. So something to keep an eye on the daylight savings time situation. Kiz, I'm curious, did you ever play in the Dunhill Links on the DP World Tour? I was, like Charlie Hoffman, you know, we've had on the show, great guy.
Starting point is 00:17:32 I saw his post this morning. I'm like, why did I not do this? I should have. But when I was at my highest success, man, I was like so done with golf for the season by the time the Dunhill rolled around. I played like eight or nine straight tour championships and played 25 weeks a year. And it always just came around so quickly to our tour championship that I did not feel like getting on a plane and flying overseas. And I don't, you know, I should probably should take him my dad back in my prime, but he's now the age where I don't think he'd want to do it. And I don't know who I'd really take.
Starting point is 00:18:03 Maybe one of y'all, if y'all want to play one day, we should just sign up and go do it. Oh, I got, when I brought that up, I wasn't even considering that as an option. Sure. But, you know, I think the, I think the, yeah, right. I think the fellows would be pretty in that. I wasn't sure because I know you always did the, obviously did Pebble Pro Am. It's different stories, PJ, tour and all that. But I know you had like your go-to guy forever with the Pebble Pro app, right?
Starting point is 00:18:27 Yeah, Charles Kelly. I mentioned him on. Oh, yeah, that's right. Lead singer, Lady Antebellum. Had so many great times and stories with them. And you want to talk about pressure. is when your partner at a pro-am tells you that he's played for whatever eight or ten years and he's never made a cut there and all his dream is is to play on
Starting point is 00:18:45 Sunday and we finally make it and when we make it on Saturday afternoon the year whatever year it was he's like all right dude I got to go but I'll be back and I was like what and he said I booked a private show in Anaheim tonight and so I'm going to fly there thinking we would never make the cut and I'm like well we're right on the split so we're going to tee off at 7.30 tomorrow. He's like, I'll be back. He flew back in at like 4 a.m. and we teed off at 7.30. Him and three pros.
Starting point is 00:19:12 And he goes, wait, I didn't know I had to play with all tour players. So it's kind of goofy, you know, he's playing the up tee. We're back there playing for millions of dollars. He's just trying to stay out of the way. And he goes, all right, it wasn't as cool as I thought it was. Oh, fuck. Yeah, that sounds like a nightmare if you're one of these amateurs out there, you know. Because, yeah, because all the pros, right?
Starting point is 00:19:34 If you make the cut, it's all, you're there. It doesn't very, and they don't do a ton of the amateur teams. Don't make it to Sunday. No, it's only like 16 guys or something like that. Yeah. I never even really consider that. You're out there putting and like scuffing up the green while people are trying to go to BJ. The whole time, Charles was just trying to stay out of the way.
Starting point is 00:19:52 He's like making doubles on every hole because he's just like, I just don't want to get in. I think we play a bow hostler. He looks like he's really into it. I'm just don't care. I'm going to stay over here in this tree. I was like, dude, you can do it. whatever you want. You can put. You can put. You're allowed to put. The up tea situation's a disaster. Yeah, you don't hang out with anybody all day. And you're not
Starting point is 00:20:12 going to come to the back tee and hang out with us while we're trying to, you know, play well. So he's just up there by himself all day with his caddy. And he's like, y'all just let me know when it's my turn. And then we all walk up there because it's on the way. And so we're all standing on the tea with him when he's tees off. He's like, this isn't that cool, man. I don't really like it. Wow. Well, the Dunhill was just this past weekend. It's always cool seeing footage of the old course. You get Carnusti, you get San Andrews, the old course, and you get Kings Barnes.
Starting point is 00:20:46 It's kind of the rotation that they play. Adrian Moronk won. He's been on Live for several years. I was looking like his last pro win was last year on Live, but this season, I don't think he finished better than T-21. He said that a couple months ago he was seriously considering taking a pretty lengthy, like legitimate break from the game of golf because he was having, you know, not the best time out there.
Starting point is 00:21:10 I was his first DP World Tour win since 2020. Um, kind of a name, you know, that it was, it was funny. Like when me and Kirk Minahan started doing our golf gambling show like three years ago or something, I remember he was a name that we would throw up there and he would get these like top 30s and top 40s all the time and make us a little money at like a plus 180. Um, so when I saw that name came back across my desk, um, and winning it out there. Just a really cool event, seeing a bunch of celebrities, seeing all those courses. And I wasn't sure if you'd ever played in the kids.
Starting point is 00:21:40 But a cool event out there. Cool to see the old course always. I saw Brooks Keppka was out there playing pretty decently. And Jenna Sims was posted a bunch of footage from, I think it looked like they were saying at either the Rusex, which we stayed at, or something right next to it, which is just one of the coolest areas in all the golf. So the old course just always does it to me anytime I see some footage. Dang, right.
Starting point is 00:21:58 That's one of the coolest places to hang out, just being a part of it. I got to stay in the old course hotel last time I played in the Open Championship there. Walking across, you know, to the golf course to play. It's pretty sick, man. And it's on all day long. My room, like, faced the course. So I could just sit up there, watch TV, look at guys, see what's going on. You know, you may not tee off until two in the afternoon at the Open Championship.
Starting point is 00:22:21 It's just a really, really St. Andrew's a fantastic place. I love Carnusti, obviously, because I played there. So if I ever start practicing golf again, I think we should probably go over there and play in that thing. Well, I think Frankie and I were talking, must have been off Mike that we might be do another Scotland trip anyway. Just because when we went, we weren't able to play the old course because it was right before the 150th. So we went and watched a few practice rounds. But you want to talk about blue balls. Like we just, we played all these great, great courses.
Starting point is 00:22:49 And Scotland clearly has incredible courses, but you're like, we're here. We're staying at the Russ six. It is. It's just that vibe. It's right in the town, as everybody knows. And then you're like, all right, let's go tee off. And instead we're watching Tiger Woods go tee off, which was great. but it was like, man, I want to tee it up there.
Starting point is 00:23:04 So I think a Scotland part two might be something the four-play crew does in the future. Was it the 150th Trent where a tiger kind of said goodbye on the swelkin bitch? I think he missed a cut on Friday. He did, but he didn't do the hat off and wave. He walked across and he like waved, but he didn't like stop and do the full Jack Nicholas. Like this is it. Right. And he was playing on Max.
Starting point is 00:23:29 Max has one. Tell me about that. and Max and them gave him all the room and they were like, we don't know what to do. We're just going to give him the room and see what he does. And then we didn't know what they do. We were kind of awkward. Yeah, what a silly but also cool thing in golf
Starting point is 00:23:43 that that was like a big moment of how he was going to handle walking over that bridge. Totally. And remember, like, Rory was coming the other way. Rory had like teed off on one. And Rory was like leading the tournament. Tiger was going to miss the cut and coming across the Swelkin Bridge. So I do remember that at the 150th. But yeah, that was about his blue balls.
Starting point is 00:24:00 as it gets for us because we were there to play golf. We had played a bunch of them. We had played Carnusti. And then like the end of the trip, we just stayed right on the 18th pole at the old course for like four days and just did not get to touch the old course other than walking across the bridge when it's treated as a park on a Sunday. So the fact that we,
Starting point is 00:24:20 I went over there and did a solo trip in like 2017. It played the old course twice. First time I played it kids, I birdied 18 to shoot 79. And then second time I played it. I needed a birdie 18 to shoot 78, and I blade scold one into a bus over the green and had to drop and hit another one.
Starting point is 00:24:38 Well, you didn't hit it out of a bunker. You just scalded off the grass. There's no bunkers in front of that green, right? No, I was like, I hit it way left into like the first fairway, you know? And it was like, we were playing 18, like, into the wind. So I tried to hit like a little knockdown gap wedge or something and just full blade zilla right into a bus over the green. Well, I always stood on that T and said,
Starting point is 00:24:58 And everyone tells you it's the easiest t-shot in golf. But I'm like, the only thing you can do here is fuck it up. So how is it the easiest t-shot? Like, you can hit it however as long as you can keep it in play. But my God, if I block one out of bounds down that road over there by the Rusex Hotel, everyone in golf is talking about it. Yep. 100%.
Starting point is 00:25:16 Yeah, I never really love that t-shot. I was like, what do you mean? This is the easiest T-shot ever. There's like one thing bad that can happen and you'll be the guy. I also, like, easiest T-shot ever. There's OB immediately all up. the right. I mean, that's just like every golfer in history, that's like an amateur, especially. Our miss is like to the right. And there's just OB stakes all up the right. But yeah, that,
Starting point is 00:25:39 that first T shot hitting on that hole is just unlike anything else that there will ever be in golf. The first time was when we had the crazy people coming across the green. It's a pretty, it's a great video. I don't know if you've ever seen it, kids, but like we were, I was there with like randoms. I did the lottery in the morning. So I got up. at like 2.30 in the morning, got line, got my tea time in the afternoon, rolled out there. I was with one other guy that was kind of a four play fan, so he and I knew each other. The other two, we didn't know. But, you know, it's like 3 p.m. tea time.
Starting point is 00:26:11 And I roll up and it's like my turn to hit finally. And there's like a woman and her young kid crossing like that path that's like in the middle of 18th hole and first hole, you know? And so like, right, it's about my turn to hit. The starter lady, who's an incredibly loud. person and has a really loud voice is like, wait, wait, and like screaming at these people to not walk across the fairway because it might turn to hit. They don't know what's going on.
Starting point is 00:26:38 So then they decide to like scurry more in the way and the fairway. And it's like my turn to hit. And I'm like, what should I do? She's like, you got to wait. So then it's like a standoff. They kind of try to get off to the side. She's like, okay, go ahead and hit. And as soon as I hit, they start walking again.
Starting point is 00:26:53 And the second I make contact, this lady just screams far, four. like it sounded like I hit the worst shot anyone's ever hit I like hit it down the right side of fairway it was crazy it was fucking crazy the rattling start to your your first roll around st andrew the video exists somewhere I don't even know if it was on like if iPhones even existed back then obviously they did but like but that video but like yeah you're stepping up the cathedral of golf like you've waited as a golf for your whole life to step up to this tea and it's just the most nerve-wracking experience for you yeah I remember that when that happened that was it was It's funny to us, but for you, that had to suck.
Starting point is 00:27:29 Ryan, pull up what I shot on Saturday on the front nine and the 150th Open Championship. I think I broke a record or something. I think I shot 28 on the front nine going out on Saturday. I was like on the cut line. I remember playing with Trey Mullinax and we birdied every hole together on the front night. It was crazy, which we also called it when no win.
Starting point is 00:27:51 It was perfect. And you know that with no win. St. Andrew's kind of pitching put on the front. six under par 30 dang I don't remember being a par 30 I knew I'd shot something crazy
Starting point is 00:28:02 yeah it says 2022 Kevin Kisner shot a historic six under par 30 on the front nine is 30 the lowest score on that nine or so I remember they kept talking about
Starting point is 00:28:14 historic but I don't know why it was historic no it just says historic I'll dig a little more and weird adjective though if it's not really historic yeah very
Starting point is 00:28:23 it's a good point very yeah you shot like a pretty good nine. Yeah, I keep playing great, but it's not a story. If he didn't, if he doesn't have the record, it's not a story. I remember walking off 18, everybody was just like, all the R&A, you know, whether coat and ties want to talk to me.
Starting point is 00:28:39 And I was like, what do you? I don't know what you are all fired up about. I'm in 19th place. Technically, everything you do is historic, right? It's part of history. So there is a true. Historic round of golf kids. Like, it's in the history books.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Way to go. Really good. Yeah. That golf course is your kind of golf course, you can just hit it as far left as you want everywhere. Just hook it. Just hook it, man. Just hook it over there somewhere, especially at Back 9.
Starting point is 00:29:03 And you just try to figure it out. The Back 9 at the old course is so fun to play because, I mean, for a lot of reasons, it's the old course. But I think that, like, when you turn back and you see the skyline of, you know, skyline's a little aggressive. It's not New York City. But like the church pews and the old, just like, how old. uh, San Andrews is and then it gets closer and closer as you get closer and closer to the 18th hole is so cool and like gives you the hebie-jeebies as you're like, okay, I'm going to have to
Starting point is 00:29:36 hit this T shot on 17. I'm going to have to hit this T shot on 18 and I'm like getting closer to them. It's just sick. There's like nothing. There's nothing like that. Yeah, I played that back nine. My first time there was about 2015 or so and it was blowing a hundred. That's when we, that's when Zach Johnson won. And it was on like, opposite. sides of the waves. We had to sit out there all day long because we had a wind delay. I played whatever wave I was in had the eight or ten hour delay. And I remember Tilleri was over there with me.
Starting point is 00:30:07 And I made them start drinking during the delay. Because it just got absurd. The delay was outright. Whatever we started and we sat there and they told us to update every hour for 10 hours. And I was like, dude, just start drinking. It's four in the afternoon. We're not playing golf today. And sure is shit, about seven o'clock.
Starting point is 00:30:24 They're like, all right, restart at 8 p.m. I was like, oh, God, we got on that range. It's blowing 100, and he's got all these clothes on because it's freezing. I look back there, and every time of Gus would come back, he would just side shuffle because it was blowing his drunk ass over. I was like, never thought you were going to be on the range drunk at an open championship. I, man, I remember that year. I think that's when Rory shot like 9 under round one and then like 80 in round two or something like that.
Starting point is 00:30:53 It was wild. Yeah, there was like, it was people were kind of losing their minds on line because it was like sunny out and like beautiful out and blowing 40. And they were just like we can't play golf in this. We, I remember looking over and Brooks Kepka was walking in. We were on like 13. And we were like, what is he doing to our official? And the official was like, oh, yeah, they just blew it. And we're like, you just, we just both hit those shots and didn't know they blew it.
Starting point is 00:31:21 If the wind wasn't blowing 80, I could have got another 100 yards out of that shot. That one pissed me off. Going back to my earlier comments about not always getting along with the RNA officials over there. Yeah, they just, you know, they kind of had, you guys had each other's number, I feel like, you know. They just do things a little differently. Yep, it really, really came to a head when you rock the 1776 hat. I don't remember that one. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:47 I think that was when I'd had enough. Mm-hmm. That was a message. I was like early in the week. It was like, you know, they were just starting to get coverage out from like live from and practice rounds at the open. And they're like,
Starting point is 00:31:57 there's Kevin Kisder with just a big 17, 76 hat up. I like America, man. It's a good spot. I love America. It is. You know, I don't, we were talking to London earlier. I don't want to get on the coffee thing again.
Starting point is 00:32:11 But we definitely do coffee still, by the way. As an update from the Scotland trip and the Ireland trip and all the way back to the Australia trip. I like the way that Americans do coffee more than they do. here. I know that it's probably not the right way. I know it's probably not how it started. I know it's like espresso is the thing. That's great. I'm fine drinking a cup of espresso every once in a while, but I just want the biggest ice coffee you got and they just don't have it. So is what it is. Have you had a, have you had a proper English breakfast with like the black pudding and all that yet? No. So I,
Starting point is 00:32:41 we got breakfast this, uh, yesterday morning or this morning. My time's all messed up. I didn't get like a traditional English, English breakfast, but I did get the beans. Oh yeah. beans tomato black pudding on you put some of it on toast like that's i'd give it a four out of 10 yeah yeah i get i i i know i'm not trying to disrespect the culture it's just how i i just didn't i also by the way i went to this breakfast place and i ordered the biggest thing they had like the most food they had it was called an oh my god because i was hungry and i hadn't eaten all day and it came with um a side of pancakes like two little little pancakes, this huge meal, easily the biggest one of the menu.
Starting point is 00:33:24 And when it came out, they'd put an American flag in the pancakes. Like a little American flag. And I was like, I get it. And I earned that because I was like, I'm so hungry. This thing was like $20. Everything else in the menu was like $8. I'm like, I'll take the oh my God. And they put an American flag in.
Starting point is 00:33:42 And I was like, super fair. That's fair. Yeah, that's, you know, that is the most obvious thing I've ever seen is when this big boy came walking in. They're like, this guy is from the USA. No doubt about it. Not hard to pick him out. Nope.
Starting point is 00:33:56 Nope. Just I got done walking. I'm sweating in the restaurant. I'm just like, oh, I'm just so American all the time. I'm just so hungry and y'all don't feed me over here. I want all you got. The elevators are small. The subways are small.
Starting point is 00:34:10 I'm having a good time. I really am. It's these are the parts of the culture that I'm just like, things are a little bit different over here. The elevators are small. You're kidding. I know how Shack feels everywhere he goes. You have AC in that fancy room you're in right there.
Starting point is 00:34:25 This hotel has air conditioning. I made sure to check because I know, again, I don't want to get on a full, like, you know, they don't like ice and they don't like air conditioning. But this place has air conditioning. They actually, there's a few behind this laptop. There's like American US plugs. So they're like, I think some places are starting to do that. I know we play when we play Dunebag in Ireland, they had a bunch of like,
Starting point is 00:34:49 American outlets. So just, you know, here and there. Yeah, like Trent, so he's, he's immersing himself in London so much that they're bringing him breakfast with American flags on it. He's got AC, he's got American outlets. He's got it's just, you just flew over there to be in America. It's kind of the American version. Oh, I got afternoon tea today. I'm experiencing. That's right. Shout out to Tom Kim, man. Tom Kim. You know, he left the President's Cup a couple hours early. They had to send him out early. He got the win, one of the few kind of wins that day, by the way, in his match.
Starting point is 00:35:27 And then had to catch a flight, fly across the world, play in the Asian games. And he had to win gold medal in order to be exempt for the 18 to 21 month stretch that he would be required to do, that all males are required to do in the South Korean military. He would only get really one or two more chances at this as well. I think he'd be able to do the Asian games maybe next year and then the Olympics in 2028. Is that when the Olympics are coming back? Those would be his other options.
Starting point is 00:36:01 Going out there and playing, you know, after traveling that late, you know, late, tough travel to get over there, that kind of pressure of playing to avoid potentially like career crippling military service where for a year. year and a half you would have to just be in the military, not playing professional golf. To play for that level of stakes is almost laughable that that's even a real thing. And then to go over there and do it, yes, he was, I believe, you know, the best player in the field. He's, you know, he got another win on the PGA tour this year. So his games trending and all that.
Starting point is 00:36:36 But to go over and deliver, I think he went about like three shots, posted a really good final round. 64. 64. Shout out to Tom Kim. How sick is that? Yeah, that was sick. I wasn't following that closely with my festival this weekend, but I had a buddy text.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Like now that your Jupiter Link's teammate doesn't have to do military service. And I was like, wait, what? He won? And I had thought he had no chance with that travel schedule and everything you just described and playing for your life. But I don't know if you saw his interview afterwards. It was pretty hilarious. He's like, I don't have any hobbies.
Starting point is 00:37:10 This is all I like to do. Every waking moment I'm thinking about golf or practicing golf. So good for him, man. He works his ass off and he got it done. He's pretty damn clutch. We've seen that from all the team events. They ride him like a horse in every single team event. He always seems to come through.
Starting point is 00:37:26 So good job, TK. Can't wait to celebrate with you. Eat some fried chicken somewhere. That's what he likes to celebrate with. Oh, amazing. Nothing wrong. It's my dad's favorite food, fried chicken. Yeah, he, that's funny.
Starting point is 00:37:40 You said that kids because I remember, you know, we had him on the podcast like two or three years ago now at this point. It was like after he won for the first time. and he said on the show that like he's never been to a party before and like and then i think frankie was like you've never been to like a gathering of more than three people ever he's like no i've never i've never been he wasn't saying i've never been to a rager he was like i've never been to any version of a party in my entire life so when you were kind of like i can't well you know get over there and and like deliver that much energy into the president's cup get on however many hours
Starting point is 00:38:11 of worth of planes get out and then keep that energy up and that level of play up if there's one guy that could be in the right spot to do it, it's TK, because he just doesn't do anything else, like his whole life. I think he started working with Sean Foley, I believe, this year. Yeah, right before he kind of broke through and won again for the first time in several years. So his game's trending up, and yeah, I thought that was an awesome story. Another good story in the world of golf, the block party boys. The block party continues, you know, another lead going into champions tour, you know, final round.
Starting point is 00:38:46 I don't know if you guys saw this cart crash that he was kind of a part of, but I saw his tweeted out by, I think it was Brintley-Romaine who tweeted out. Close call today at the PGA Tour Champions event. Stephen Alker's 19-year-old fill-in cat, he was driving a cart on the second hole when the cart slid on wet grass and crashed into Michael Block's cart from behind. The collision was described as a, quote, light bump, though Block, who was seated in the cart, was checked on by an on-site physio. Block checked out fine.
Starting point is 00:39:16 At this point, I will believe any Michael Block story. Did you guys see the one from, it feels like a month ago now. I got a DM from somebody or maybe it was on Twitter somewhere about the seven iron and the car. No. So I don't know if this is true or not, but this kind of goes to the Michael Block thing where I don't know what's true and what's myth anymore. But it's that and maybe Ryan Riching can pull it up. But it's he sold the seven iron that he made the hole in one when he was playing with Rory in the PJ Championship. and he bought a car, a nice car, and the license plate says seven iron,
Starting point is 00:39:51 and he parks it in his spot at the club. I think that is true. I think that has come across my desk before. I think that is 100% true. It's. Yep, that's right. There it is. Michael Block reveals he sold the seven iron.
Starting point is 00:40:05 He made his famed hole in one with the 2023 PJ Championship and used the money to buy a 1965 Ford Mustang fastback restomod. the license plate reads seven iron what a guy it's it's amazing the whole thing is amazing like that it's i always go back to like because will feral is my touch point with sports comedies where like this is something they would write into that show and people would be like no way a person would actually act like this and michael block does it and my hat that i'm not wearing goes off to him because he is just an amazing character in the world of golf there's no other way to say it Yeah, no, he's phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:40:46 He's absolutely phenomenal. He ended up a bogey in the last hole to finish, I think, solo third. So a little bit more disappointment. He can't quite get over the hump. I did see this was his seventh, I think, start on the Champions Tour, which qualifies him for the postseason play, which is a big goal of his. So the Black Party will continue, gentlemen, that will continue. He will finish 12 under par, two shots out of what would have been a playoff, I believe.
Starting point is 00:41:08 So he's playing well. The Black Party will continue. We have a feature of the top top. thing like the tour does where he just continues to get in the next week as long as he top tens that might be it that might be why he has continued to kind of rack up these starts because i do feel like the clips early on where he was just like i feel i'm so happy to like be out here i played well enough to be able to have another shot next week so he might have just been like keeping himself alive week after week it feels like they better not let him
Starting point is 00:41:36 win one if if they the guys on that tour i i actually want to see it because i'm just like a narratives guy and it'd be incredible. All those guys got to be thinking in that locker room when he's not around. We cannot let this guy win one because it'll be you though. He's going to. He's getting too close, man. He's good. He's going to win one.
Starting point is 00:41:57 Yeah. He is good. He might win a bunch in a row after he wins one. You know, that's how it usually works. These guys pop one off and it's like, oh, yeah, now I've got all the confidence. He might be one of those guys just wins like three in a row out of nowhere. I need it, you know, I need to see him winning out on the champions tour. It is like we've never, we've seen them do well in big environments.
Starting point is 00:42:17 And we saw like the PGA championship was as cool as it gets him getting up and down there to finish in the top 15. So we got in the next year, the whole and one with Rory. We've never seen him win anything. I don't feel like like I haven't, you know, I haven't seen him like coming off the green with a with a trophy baby. Right. It's always a lot of like, can you believe this guy is in this position? It's, it's, which he's earned it clearly, but it's a win. It'll be tears streaming down his face, just like hugging everybody.
Starting point is 00:42:46 It'll be an absolute scene. Yeah, I mean, whenever that was at the Champions Tour event like six weeks ago when he like just hit a good shot in there on a part three to get within like the top 10 on Saturday and then like through his club into the crowd. I mean, what if he wins? What is he going to do when he went? So need to see it. Very, very excited at the block party.
Starting point is 00:43:06 The lights are still on at the block party and they're going to be on for the foreseeable future. Austin Smotherman on the PGA Tour wins the Bank of Utah Championship. Pretty cool kind of like writing that journeyman story category. He was teammates with Bryson at SMU. This was his 99th start on the PGA tour. He turned pro 10 years ago in 2016. He has won, I think,
Starting point is 00:43:33 three different times on the Corned Ferry Tour. His first win on the Corn Ferry Tour in 2021 was five years ago. He won a couple more times on the Corn Ferry Tour. year. So obviously he's had to jump back and forth why he was trying to make it and then goes out there, gets it done for his first PGA tour when being out there for again, 10 years, a decade. Kids has talked a lot on this show about just how, yes, golf, it's cool. There's a lot of privilege playing golf for a living, but it could be a grind. It's a mental grind. It's a travel grind. It is like a family grind of just not really being in one place, not having
Starting point is 00:44:07 your roots down and to go out there and not be able to really win. you know, get over that hump and for him to get the W very cool, very meaningful. And yeah, shout out to Austin Smotherman. I thought the coolest part back was doubling 13, never won before something always happens to you coming down the stretch trying to figure out how to win and you're like, how hard is it to freaking win out here? Had lots of chances when I was first trying to break through. So shout out to Austin for coming back, you know, double 13 with the lead.
Starting point is 00:44:38 You'd probably feel like the entire weight of the tournament's on your shoulders and bounce back with a few birdies coming in to get his win. It's cool to see this is where you're going to see the next superstars, man. Like this fall series, the next superstars on the tour, that's, you know, guys like Austin or whoever in here that has a chance to win could be the guy that's up there competing with Scotty Sheffler in two years. And we are getting into know them through these access and these events. So good on him. I know a lot of guys flew over to Japan this week. a hell of a flight. The charter was out of Vegas,
Starting point is 00:45:10 so a lot of guys that didn't play Utah are flying on their own over there. I taught to Harmon last week. He was flying over, taking his kids. So, big week in Japan coming up this week. Japan, man. Japan has been skyrocketing on my rankings of places to visit. I know, you know, we did a little bit of vacation talk
Starting point is 00:45:29 at the beginning of this show. Everybody raves about Japan. They rave about the people and, like, how friendly and gracious they are that you're there and how they just take it really seriously to make sure all guests and tourists have the best time. And then I've just heard the food is insane in Japan. Yeah, food is insane.
Starting point is 00:45:50 Remember going right down. Tokyo's insane in the middle of the city. It's like New York on steroids. Lots of awesome steakhouses and places to eat. And you just need, you remember Ryuji Amata. Does that ring a bell for y'all? Yep. Played the tour many years ago.
Starting point is 00:46:05 he was a Georgia golfer so my one and only trip to Japan I just called him and was like you're going to be my tour guide all week so he just took me around to all the best places and spoke Japanese for me it was awesome we had a great week he was actually working the event for their local TV so shout out to him and Japan
Starting point is 00:46:28 you'll never see a piece of trash on anywhere in the country it's unbelievable we talked about that at the world cop sucker but everywhere you go and there's not a ton of trash cans. It's very odd. People just take it with them, right? Yeah, they take it with them.
Starting point is 00:46:43 They take it with them. Yeah, right. They take it home and then they discard it when they get home. It's like that's their, that's their duty, which is just, New York City couldn't be more opposite. I was going to say, I can't tell you how much different New York City is to that. That is New York City is my home and I love it, but there is trash fucking everywhere. Everywhere, baby. London's clean. London's clean too, though. I'll say that. London's a pretty clean place.
Starting point is 00:47:09 I agree with that. I think it's the alleyways. I remember looking that up last time. I think, like, New York doesn't have any alleyways. And so there's nowhere to put the trash. So the trash just stacks up on the side of streets, whereas I think London was built with a little bit more of a plan,
Starting point is 00:47:22 and they are able to hide a lot of the negative stuff that you don't want to see in the alleyways. Could be. Yeah. Yeah. Could just make that up. New York does not have that. Chicago's a cleaner city in that.
Starting point is 00:47:33 They have alleyways. So I think alleyways might be the key. to a trashless city? I took a class at college. It was like the sociology of urban development. And it was talking a lot about different like city developments. And I think that was one of the key takeaways was like building a grid system with that kind of with those types of things in mind. Another one was like the really they were harping on like how Central Park, you know,
Starting point is 00:48:02 like you ever heard the stuff about how Central Park is worth X amount of dollars. if you were to like parcel it off and sell it off for real estate development, all that. But the overall happiness and well-being of a city is so reliant on something like Central Park existing. And certain cities done with that mind are like way more efficient than other cities. Actually really interesting class. Doesn't that class sound like something Riggs had to take to stay eligible to play a hockey trend? Totally. We like knew the TA.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Everybody, your whole hockey team was in that class. right. How'd they name these streets? There's like people taking like Econ 307 and we're in there like they did a grid system to build the city. That's genius. They put greenery near the people and it helps their brains. First street, second street, third street. I can do that. There is something to it though because there's that there's Hyde Park is down the street from me and it's huge and like you can walk where I was Kensington Gardens.
Starting point is 00:49:04 It is nice to have greenery around. So I get why that would be part of a city planning. Yeah. And it was like it was interesting that the, you know, the debates over time around that political debates, not be able to sell it off and all that need to be built into like city code and all that is actually pretty interesting. So again, it wasn't the hardest class in the world. I think you just, if you could string together a couple sentences for about four page paper, you might be looking at a pretty high grade. But I enjoyed, I enjoyed the hell out of it. For most of us, home security was never really about the house.
Starting point is 00:49:38 It's about the people inside of it, the ones you would do anything to protect. A break-in leaves a mark even if nothing is taken because it marks the moment. Home stops feeling safe, which is not acceptable. It's not what anybody wants. Simply safe gets that while other security systems react once a break-in has begun. SimplySafe is built to keep threats away from you and out of the door in the first place. Unlike traditional security systems that will only alert you after a break-in, under way. Simply save is built to stop it all before it starts. I've been using SimplySafe

You guys see this, speaking of school. you guys see this Yale golf course situation. So this has been coming across my desk all over golf social media lately. The Yale golf course, you know, classic safety school over in Connecticut.
Starting point is 00:53:49 But they have this awesome golf course. It's like structural and architectural, I guess you would say standpoint. You know, it's in that category. It's Seth Rainer and C.B. McDonald's got all the template holes. And people love the golf course, love the layout. but it had been kind of run down. They went through a $30 million restoration relatively recently led by Gil Hans. Gil Hans is, of course, he's been on this show a bunch of times.
Starting point is 00:54:14 He's sort of become like the restoration guy, a bunch of the major championships we've seen over the last decade have been at iconic courses that have been redone by Gilhance and his team, most recently Aronimic this year. But went through this $30 million renovation and then a bunch of footage is coming out over the last week. and Gabby actually wrote a really good article about it that showcased sort of like how shitty the golf course looks and then they're charging $350 for it. People were kind of losing their minds.
Starting point is 00:54:45 Got into like a big debate about charging X amount for golf and how golf is too expensive. And then it kind of led to another debate that was like really, you know, they were Gil Hans and like the architects and all that being like the debate was like, is it have anything to do with them and their restoration? or once they turn the keys over to just the maintenance crew, is it just 100% on them?
Starting point is 00:55:07 So it kind of got people going in the golf world. There's a lot of bare spots. It was a lot of like dead grass, a lot of just pretty shitty looking golf conditions for people to be charging $350 after a $30 million renovation. So I had a little bit of debate going in the golf Twitter world. Didn't Gil comment that they were going to have to shut it down to help get it back into proper condition for a little bit?
Starting point is 00:55:28 Like next summer, obviously when growing season comes back? Yep. Yeah, he said, he also said, I do not believe that there is anyone who has been involved in this project who could be objectively happy with how the course is currently being maintained and presented, which, you know, those are some shots fired. I, yeah, I was reading quite a bit, obviously they committed the 30 million to do the restoration. But then Gil and his team, when he kind of heard about what the budget was planning to be for the maintenance, he was like, well, that's not going to work out. And it is funny because I remember Gil being on this show and maybe eight years ago. And he was talking about how he was like, you know, Rick's like you could do the coolest golf hole architecturally that anyone's ever seen. And if the tee boxes are shitty and the fairway grass is shitty and the green condition is shitty, people will think the hole sucks.
Starting point is 00:56:17 And you could do the most boring architectural golf hole in the world. And if the tea boxes are flat and green and beautiful and the greens are running at a smooth 12, they're going to love that hole way more than the. other one. And so this little like little back and forth, I guess, between the two of them is something that is, you know, obviously. It makes total sense to me. I mean, I walk up on a T. and I know a lot about architecture and agronomy, but a perfectly conditioned T-box and look, no matter where the hole goes, is going to peak my interest more than if I look out there and there's just bare spots and shit. So it makes sense to me. I actually played that golf course in college during regionals are, you know, your regionals to get to the.
Starting point is 00:56:58 the NCAA championship. We got sent to the Yale golf course, and that was the first time I ever played a full Baritz. They had a full Baritz part three, and it was like, could be a nine iron or could be a four wood. No idea. Because the green was so big, dude.
Starting point is 00:57:15 And if you're in the middle, you had this hundred foot put coming out of an elephant swell down the bottom where you couldn't even see the top of the flag. It was crazy. Yeah, they've got one in like Bermuda at Mid Ocean Club. the huge like beurits. They've got one at Chicago golf. I just played it during the President's Cup week.
Starting point is 00:57:34 That third hole there is a Brits. How was Chicago golf? Yeah, it was great. Green Complex is a really cool. I think it's one of those places you could play every day because of the whole locations change the dynamic of the hole. Like from T to Green, it's not going to wow you every time, every day to play, but you could see some different pins that you'd be like,
Starting point is 00:57:55 holy cow, I didn't know that bunker was here. You know, they got all those. crazy hidden bunkers around the greens that you could just absolutely penalize yourself by not knowing the golf course well enough. Wingfoot always reminds me of that where it's like there's a lot of greens that could have now that they've, you know,
Starting point is 00:58:12 I think it was Gil as well who like restored it and they have some green complexes there where the hole it feels like could play like 25 yards different based on where they could put the pit. Like back, left or front right is like a wildly different golf hole. Yeah. I agree. All right.
Starting point is 00:58:29 You guys see this guy texting Matt Fitzpatrick, by the way. Yeah, that was great. That was great. And that was so Matt Fitzpatrick getting, you know, like just answering him.
Starting point is 00:58:36 Who does that? Yeah. Just right. Right. Just him responding every time. Like, thanks, man. Who is this?
Starting point is 00:58:44 And the guy just waiting until he wanted another one big, another W. Let's go. Oh, man. He really cracked me up. That, that level of weirdness is too strong of a,
Starting point is 00:58:55 of a term. But that level of like, internet person is something that I think we're losing. Where like if you found out, if somebody else found out that they had Maddie Fitz's number, it's a nightmare. And he's, it's like,
Starting point is 00:59:07 Mattie Fitz has got to change his number. He's got to tell everybody, you know, this weirdo got my number and I just have to change everything. To have that level of just a touch point of like, every time he wins, I'm going to text him and that's going to be it. That's a level of internet whimsy that I'm all for.
Starting point is 00:59:21 But it can go in a weirder place. But this one was good. And I'm fully supportive of that back and forth. I thought it was really, It was like some wholesome content that you don't get very often anymore. It was like 10 years ago, Internet, you know, when it was funny. Everybody could like laugh at stuff and have a good time with it. And that guy, he didn't overplay his hand.
Starting point is 00:59:40 He wasn't like, Maddie Fitz was trying to figure out who I am. I'm going to like how he's just like, no, every time he wins, I'm going to fire him. Thanks. Congratulations. Right. And yeah, the response, him responding every time killed me. Yeah, me too. I couldn't get over that.
Starting point is 00:59:53 How did he figure it out? he finally asked somebody that had of this guy's number. I guess like that. I think the guy tweeted it out eventually. Yeah. Maybe sent a screenshot to like his buddy and one of his buddies tweeted it out
Starting point is 01:00:04 because it just the screenshot started like making rounds and all the aggregate golf accounts. And then he got asked about it at the Dunhill. I think he was playing Dunhill wherever he was this past weekend. He got asked about it in his press conference and he was like typical Maddie Fitz too. He was like, I don't get what everybody thinks it's so funny.
Starting point is 01:00:18 But yeah, that was that happened. That was me responding. a hell of an effort by him um all right uh you guys see this stuff about this plague in russia that we're going to have to worry about right now couldn't wait for you to get to this topic i want to know everything well you know it's in like siberia we just had a report that a russian doctor that is like a plague you know a doctor research whatever uh researcher uh that was working on it has just passed away and this just gave me eerily similar early early COVID rumor type stuff where you're hearing about things going on over
Starting point is 01:00:57 in Wuhan and like doctors and labs and all that stuff gets really scary and like Russia and China you know those are kind of places you don't fully trust all that now if they're listening I'm all good with you guys don't come after the four play golf podcast but boy that that that just all those buzzwords in the same story I feel like or no boy no right now well yeah yeah. Yes, I agree with that. But also now, since we've, you know, it's not so funny to say, not funny, but since we made it through one pandemic and the response to it and there's been much written about, much talked about, much done on Capitol Hill, much done everywhere about the response.
Starting point is 01:01:38 I think now people will just be like, it's just another tweet that I'm just going to scroll right by. Like before it was obviously a huge deal when it was like, is this thing going to jump? And is it going to make it to the United States? because Italy's on fire and China shut down. And now obviously if those things start to happen again, maybe. But it feels like now people are just like, I'm just going to keep going. And I'm not even going to pay it as much mind as I did before.
Starting point is 01:02:04 Or it could shut the entire world down. And this is like the last broadcast that I see you guys in because the world's internet goes down. I'm always like one or the other. I have no idea what's going to happen. I did see where it said the White House is having to monitor it. So something's going on. on.
Starting point is 01:02:20 And that might mean, you're just stuck in London forever, Trent. Right. I'm going to have to get used to espresso. Yeah, and afternoon tea. And pancakes with American flags in them. Pancakes were good,
Starting point is 01:02:33 not to keep going back to that, but the pancakes were the right size. When pancakes get too big, they sort of like they lose their luster once the heat and the warmth is gone. These small little, I would call them a little bit bigger, like bigger than a hockey puck.
Starting point is 01:02:46 They keep their consistency and they're warm. And I think that was like a big learning lesson. And I think I might take that back to America with me. But that's nice. We're getting some positive is coming out of the, you know. Overall, it's been a positive experience. Just like anything else, we usually focus on like the things that are like a little negative or a little bit different. But overall, my time has been great.
Starting point is 01:03:06 But it sounds like, yeah, if this Russia thing takes off, I'm going to have an extended stay in London. Yeah. We just, another world news that came across my desk was that about the U.S. removing all bombers from that fort over there. And where is it? The UK base, Raff, Fairford. Okay. That's not great.
Starting point is 01:03:27 Yeah, so you might need to get out of there, Trent. Removing all bombers, hey? I got a few. You hadn't seen that one yet. I hadn't come across. That came across my desk. That rang my bell. Really?
Starting point is 01:03:40 U.S. I have removed all the ones. Oh, I love you. Kept that one in your brain. I love it. Of course. I've been, this whole podcast has been like,
Starting point is 01:03:46 when can I, say rang my bell this whole podcast i've been waiting to use it i finally i don't even know if i used it correctly but i wanted to use it i kind of like i think it was perfect context i want to hear about this bluegrass festival this the thing that you held because not to move on too quickly from russia but i that like made me nervous because i hadn't read the article so just hearing about all that i'm just going to try to ignore it for the time being just you're going to scroll past that one you know plague's not what i don't feel like we've really had to focus on for six or seven hundred years so to here to see plague i thought was like what's yeah true i i'm conflating uh pandemic and plague what's a
Starting point is 01:04:21 difference i think plague is way worse yeah that's what i was going with too but that's just my i think of as the bubonic plague you know correct correct it feels like all of the plagues have been biblically bad and all of the pandemics have been like bad but yeah that's just my takeaway my medical my medical opinion when you yeah unfortunately when you talking about plagues, you start talking in percentages of populations. That's right. And you're just like, boy, like that's like really not good. Plague, I feel like they're like, yeah, like 60% of people on earth died from this plague.
Starting point is 01:04:59 And you're like, well, I mean, that's, you know, we're kind of at like, we're kind of at a fraction of a percent with COVID, you know, which is still really bad and horrible. You start getting into some double digit percentage numbers. We're in trouble. So that's why that's why plague just kind of got me. My radar was up a little more. school there. That's stressing me out. I want to hear about the bluegrass festival because on my list of things that I want to do, unfortunately, I was flying to London when this was going on. I've gotten into bluegrass music in the last two, three, four years. And one thing on my list
Starting point is 01:05:29 to do is I want to go to a bluegrass festival because they look like an incredible time. People breaking out instruments. People loving all the music. Good to hang, drinking, smoking, what, like, I just, it's on my list. So I want to hear about yours this weekend. Yeah, went off with out of hitch, man. Of course, you know, our great friends in the meteorology world told me that Saturday was going to be a wash. It was going to rain from 8 a.m. until midnight. And so we had all these contingency plans for Saturday because our first band started at 1230 and went to 11 p.m. And it's an outdoor festival at a beautiful venue that is our partner called Bruce's Field in in the middle of town in Aiken. So we got exactly zero drops of rain after my little weather app said 100%
Starting point is 01:06:14 at midnight when I went on bed on Friday night. And not a single drop, man. So Friday night was really fun. We had four bands go off and they all kind of played together at the end, which was really cool. And then Saturday just went off without a hitch, man. And I don't know if you've had Andy Frasco come across your music yet. But he has. Dude, we had to put a forklift and get his piano on the stage because he didn't get there until late.
Starting point is 01:06:43 and he like stands on the piano the whole set and just rocks. And so that was really cool. And then Lettuce was our headliners. And Andy Frasco and his whole band, I look out there and they're just in the middle of the crowd just ripping, you know, just partying with all of my people just because they could not wait to watch lettuce, which I thought was so cool in that industry that they sport each other and they all want to hang out. And then my boys, the gringos that I hired off of Instagram from Athens, Georgia, they ripped it on. Saturday, midday. They've got an electric lead singer that brought a lot of energy. They're not exactly bluegrass, but they, I hired him because of their cover of Pink Floyd
Starting point is 01:07:24 Time and they just rock that song out for me. They changed up the whole kind of flow. That's what we like to do is like three or four bands of all bluegrass and we'll just throw a random band in the middle of different music, just to change the vibe for a little bit. Yeah. And then go right back to bluegrass. So everything went pretty smoothly. We ran a little late.
Starting point is 01:07:43 I might get a little talk to about that from the, you know, local authorities about being over our time limit. But we'll deal with that when it comes to it. And yesterday was not my best day after 36 hours straight of that. I was telling Riggs before you came on, like at some point late night, Saturday night, I just couldn't stand erect anymore. My back was killing me. And I was just leaning left and my wife just, you know, berated me on the way out. So, yeah, all is good.
Starting point is 01:08:11 we're back uh turns out if you try to talk over bluegrass music for 18 hours you lose your voice turns out so a lot of you know i talk to a ton of people i'm out there in the middle we have yeah yeah i try to talk all the bands and so it's loud all day long because there's music on and you just catch yourself yelling for 12 hours it's straight to communicate turns out it's not great for your vocal cords i believe that i uh i had a moment on saturday night too we were at dougan pub here in Pyners, which is a, you know, it's like the only real pub that kicks off and has some energy after a certain hours, just an early place here at Piner's. So it needs to be a resort guest, a lot of retire people, whatever.
Starting point is 01:08:52 And we go to Dugans. They got a little basement scene in there. They do karaoke. They have live bands. Sometimes we went in there. And it was same deal. Kids, just like, no water really for probably three days straight, quite a few, you know, alcoholic beverages.
Starting point is 01:09:03 And then you're just in there with the live music and everything. You think you're talking to people next to you, but you're really just screaming at each other for however many hours straight. and I just got to point where like I just had no voice left and then you said that text yesterday. I was like, boy, we're going to have a voiceless podcast. That could be quite tricky to deal with. But did a lot of like, did some honey, did some drinking some water and be like, okay, I think I can get through this show. I think we can talk to each other.
Starting point is 01:09:27 Yeah, it's good to know, steal at 42 that you can recover. You know, at some point you're just not going to be able to recover. Right. I think I may not need to push it to quite the limit I did. Maybe realize that I'm 42 now, but I still think I'm 20. when I'm out there in that field hanging out. Good music's going on. All my friends are there.
Starting point is 01:09:46 People, like we have one family from Arizona came just to check out the festival. You know, I want to talk to them and find out why. So that's so cool that people support us from all over. And, yeah, it turned out great. Hope y'all can come next year. Every year when I get done, I'm like, never doing that again. And then by like, you know, March of next year, I'm like, all right, who are we going to get this year? Incredible.
Starting point is 01:10:08 I'm definitely coming next year. I got whenever you get those dates, you might already have them. I want them because I'm going to put on the calendar because I really wanted to go and it just happened to, it was caught. I couldn't do it with this trip, but I'm coming next year for sure. Let's go. You can stay at my house. Yes. You got to take care of George, though.
Starting point is 01:10:27 Okay. There's your boys. Okay. I believe we have the No-Fives challenge video coming out this week. You know, I was not there for that one. I believe Frankie and Trent had themselves quite the time. But I believe on Wednesday of this week, we're going to get the No-Fives Challenge,
Starting point is 01:10:45 which is one of our favorite ongoing social media video series that we see all the time, the handshake bets guys. Last time I saw he's on like day 80-something of just trying to play an entire round of golf without making a five. He's a really good player. But you guys got in the mix.
Starting point is 01:11:00 We did. We shot at President's Cup week when we're in Chicago. We wouldn't play to place. It's Harborside, right? Where we have the Barso Classic there. seven years ago. One of the first runs of the Barso Classic was that it was at the Harborside.
Starting point is 01:11:16 Yeah, we went out there and I'm sure people have seen the videos. Can't make a five in these videos. If he makes a five, it's a failure. And we got involved and we're like, all right, we want to be in,
Starting point is 01:11:25 we want to shoot a video. It's the back nine boys, the handshake bets guys. People have seen them. They're, they're blowing up. They just, they bought like their first office space in Chicago.
Starting point is 01:11:34 So they're sort of like, you know, they're in the early stages of that content creation, getting it going, and they're great guys. So we wanted to, like, get them on a video and we had a blast. We put a little bit of money on the line and we went out there and we filmed a great video. I think people are really going to like it. It's an incredible style to do.
Starting point is 01:11:56 So I think people are really going to like it. Hell yeah. I heard it was really good. I heard some behind the scenes stories about how this bad boy went down. So I'm excited. They're awesome. We've been lucky enough to see him at a handful. events now. I think the Phoenix Open they were there.
Starting point is 01:12:11 A couple other little like draft kings things. They've been there. So they're fun. They're fun to hang out with. Our guy Avery's over there as you know, he was with us forever. Now he's working with them. So there's a lot of ties there. Yeah, there's like I said it in the video when we film was like with Avery, there's just barstool DNA. Like when somebody like him jumps and, you know, he just wanted to do something else and he got involved with them. And it's having that out there and just knowing Avery and knowing that he knows like what goes on a bar stool and how it works and
Starting point is 01:12:40 like what's a good way to sort of get a footing and try to get going. Now they all obviously work on everything. So it's not obviously just him. But it's just yeah, he was out there that day and he was talking shit to Frankie about the Islanders. He's a huge Rangers fan. So yeah, it was that whole crew is awesome. We're huge fans of that. All right. So yeah, make sure you go check out that video. That'll be our newest YouTube video coming out this week. And then otherwise, you know, I hope Trent, hope you enjoy the hell out of London. You can get out of there when you need to get out of there and return to the United States of America
Starting point is 01:13:10 if you need to return to the United States of America. Yeah. You know, I'm again, I'm going to ignore any plague talk because it's making me nervous until I'm on that plane on my way back. So yeah, hopefully all goes well. Fingers crossed. I think you're going to make it, buddy.
Starting point is 01:13:29 I appreciate it. How many more days are you over there? Fly home on Thursday. So three more days? You do the whole just fly throughout the day and then when you get back, you're just still the same time to type of deal. Yeah, I think that's right. We leave. Yeah, you leave at three and land at four or something.
Starting point is 01:13:47 Yeah. And that crazy? Yeah. I think, and I could be wrong about this. But I think going the other way is easier, right? I don't know. Yeah. Oh, no.
Starting point is 01:13:57 I don't know. Going back home is easier. I think so. Because when I land, it's going to feel really late. and all I got to do is stay up for like four or five hours. And then you crush it. Yeah, then you crush it. And you're back on.
Starting point is 01:14:10 I think that's doable. I think that's fine. Going there, you like, like a day of your life just got like sucked away and eliminated and deleted and it's really hard mentally to get over that. You know, I know that's true?
Starting point is 01:14:22 First of all, I lived it. And two, my whoop thinks I missed today. Yeah. And I wore it the whole time, which is I get like, technology is a little bit.
Starting point is 01:14:30 They're just like, oh yeah, you kind of for, you kind of forped into a weird. world there for a second. And the goal is to sleep. If you can sleep on the flight over, you're in a way better spot. Really bad turbulence for a long time on the flight over here. So I just couldn't get any sleep. And then you're fuck. Yeah. Total. So, uh, yeah, you're at a bad. Godspeed. But Godspeed to you. Uh, all right. Enjoy London. And, uh, thank you. A big thanks to all of our sponsors.
Starting point is 01:14:58 Thanks everybody for listening. Thanks to Ryan Richardson, getting it done behind the scenes. And, uh, we'll be back Thursday for the second show of the week. So enjoy the week. Hit it hard. Hit it hard. Fuck!
