Fore Play - "We did it," featuring Tiger Woods

Episode Date: November 27, 2018

On this podcast, you will hear Tiger Woods directly answering questions from Riggs. It's only about 3 minutes, but we got Tiger Woods, and it was awesome. Riggs tells the story of how meeting and inte...rviewing Tiger came to be, how Riggs was nervously shaking, how Joey LaCava played a role, and what Tiger was like before, during, and after the chat (also a special Phil Mickelson story). Additionally, we deliver all our hot “The Match” takes, and reveal that Wolf Creek — from the Tiger video games — is actually a real golf course. That was a long time. You spent Thanksgiving up there
Starting point is 00:01:36 in Vegas. Spent Thanksgiving in Vegas. Played Wolf Creek on Thanksgiving. Unbelievable. Which we got to talk about that course. That course is unreal. That's from the Tiger Woods video game. Yep. A lot to talk about on this very show, you are going to hear Tiger Woods's voice. Oh, man. You are going to hear Tiger Woods answers questions directly from Barstool Sports, from Riggs, from myself. It's not a long, interview. We were able to get him for about three minutes. It was all we were able to get him. It was on a freaking iPhone camera is what we had to use.
Starting point is 00:02:05 You take what you can get in those situations. Oh, man. They're, you know, if they're like, hey, you have seven seconds with Tiger. Can you sprint across the globe? Yeah, I'll be able to. Three minutes is much more than like we even need and much more than some of the best things we get to do in the world. And I'm talking sex here, folks. That's right. Good, good call. Sex. Like three minutes is an eternity.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Are you kidding me? So I don't want to have to make people wait very long to get this. So we'll talk. Let's set it up real quick. I'll talk about how whole thing came to be what it was like. Then we'll put in the audio and we'll talk about it afterwards. So we kind of went out to Vegas with an idea that we knew we had been in touch. I've been in touch with Tiger's camp, Tiger's team, that he's open to do more stuff, more media stuff this year in general,
Starting point is 00:02:53 but definitely around the match because they're trying to promote the match. Tiger is the hardest motherfucker to get time with in the world. I mean, we were talking about it on radio this morning. Tiger's probably the biggest celebrity athlete of all time. Certainly in the media age. Like, you talk about everybody always talks about Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan, but they were all here before, like, social media was a thing. So he's certainly the most famous athlete in the era where people are trying to pull every angle from somebody.
Starting point is 00:03:20 Right. And with everything that he's, in terms of how big as stardom was, everything that he went through with scandals type stuff. He's probably, too, the most guarded athlete in the world, combined with his celebrity. He's just incredibly difficult to get to. You have to go through layers and you have to get trust from people and you have to get him to sign off and everybody to sign off. So I've been trying, we've been trying, four plays been trying forever to get time with Tiger from tweeting at him to emailing people to. I went to an event and met Joe Likava, who he plays a little bit of a factor in this story.
Starting point is 00:03:55 But he's just a really hard guy to get time with, unbelievably hard. And we're his biggest fans in the world. Yes. And I don't, we don't say that lightly. We honestly, genuinely are obsessed with everything that he does. If anyone has listened to three episodes of this podcast, there's been at least one episode where we're just gushing over Tiger or how he's coming back and how much we love him. And honestly, it would maybe be a better show if one of us didn't like him or played that role. But like, we don't.
Starting point is 00:04:21 We all love it. We're just obsessed with Tiger. That's just what it is. And we can't help it. I say all the time, I don't even really watch that much Netflix. I just watch Tiger Highlights on YouTube. I just watch, like, his whole final round from the Masters or from Beaslings on his every tournament that he played this year. I just, we read the book.
Starting point is 00:04:38 What's the book? Does anybody remember the book? It's that one with his big old face on the front of it. Armand Catan, we had him on the show. It's, uh, oh, the name of the book is Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods is on this podcast. So we go out there and we, we don't have any guarantees, but it's, it's, we're kind of told,
Starting point is 00:04:55 hey, we think we can really get you an introduction. You can meet them. Hopefully you can take a picture at some point. I'm like, okay, cool. We're coming. We'll be out there during Thanksgiving. That's all I needed. Even if we put in a good showing, we make some connections.
Starting point is 00:05:09 We meet this person, that person. We have a couple drinks. We're getting closer. It's Tiger Woods, all that stuff. So Friday was the match. Match was really cool. We'll talk all about the match afterwards. We'll talk about what sucked about it, what needs to change about it, what we liked about it,
Starting point is 00:05:23 all that. We're going to break that all down on this show. show. But I was kind of teased with a, hey man, because Tigers camp, Tigers top two guys are our Foreplay fans. They love Foreplay. They know what we're doing. They're well aware of us. They think even beyond our tiger coverage that we're great for golf, that it's really cool that we speak our minds, that we've gotten into it with the PGA tour and with certain players and that we gotten into it with Bryce N. Shambo, then had them on the show and got into it with them and speak our mind and appeal to the younger crowd, all that. They're very aware of that. And they love it. They
Starting point is 00:05:55 love what we do. However, that's separate from just being like, oh, okay, so you just get Tiger Woods whenever the hell you're like, no, that's not how it works. Right. But they were teasing, like, look, after the match, hopefully Tiger's in a good mood, and we could get you like two or three or four minutes with him after the match. Well, it goes 22 holes. He loses.
Starting point is 00:06:12 It's been dark out for like an hour and a half. He's exhausted. So, like, yeah, unfortunately, he kind of, he went with his family and shut it down. So really sorry about that, but, but man, we're really going to keep it out for you. I was like, okay. And then I get a text on Saturday. morning. Saturday morning we're playing in the proam, which the proam was around the event. Tiger and Phil were there. A bunch of celebrities were there, Ben Stiller played in it, like all kinds of
Starting point is 00:06:35 celebrities were there and VIPs and like a big mix. So I'm on the shuttle on the way there from MGM. The only way you can really get to Shadow Creek is you got to take the MGM shuttle because MGM owned Shadow Creek. So I'm on the shuttle, 7 a.m. shuttle. I get a text message from Tiger's camp that's like, hey man, if you got like two minutes with Tiger this morning, what could you do? And there's no cameras allowed it's not even a media event it's just kind of VIPs and celebrity stuff tiger I don't think Tiger did any other media all day outside of just taking pictures with with VIPs and stuff um they're like what could you do so I'm like man what if I just hand you my cell phone and I'll come up with five rapid fire questions and I'll try to make them laugh a mix of like I'll make
Starting point is 00:07:13 them laugh and and ask him a couple you know golf questions that I'm curious about and we'll just have a video of me and tiger was and he was like done and because I had had a couple of ideas that I had sat down rances and come up with a couple skit ideas. And we were prepared. It was like if I have five minutes, five, 15 minutes, these were different skits that we were trying to get approved. And then an old hockey trick is you, when you're trying to get a guest and you're trying to get some sort of idea approved, you lead with a really outrageous one that you
Starting point is 00:07:40 know they'll say no to. Oh, yeah. So then the real one you want to get looks way better. Oh, I like that. Yeah. So I kind of hit him with like this kind of crazy skit idea that I knew we weren't going to have time. We don't even have a camera guy.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Like it was literally just my phone. That was all we had. And so the other one was like, okay, cool, how about I just give you my phone. We'll record for five minutes or for like two or three minutes, rapid fire questions. And they're like, okay, no promises, but I think there's a way we can get it done. So in heroic fashion, Tiger's guys, they set up kind of this like maneuver where at 730, Tiger and Phil were supposed to report to the driving range with everyone else to take photos with each group. I have a photo for my group with Tiger and Phil and they signed him and it's really cool. But right at 7.30, everyone's in the clubhouse.
Starting point is 00:08:26 Like, Phil's holding court in the middle of the clubhouse. Like, he's like, I'm sorry, in the locker room at Shadow Creek. And it's a classic, you know, like locker room. It's like boys being boys in the locker room, chatting. And it's like Phil's standing in the middle of these couches, like telling stories. Tiger's sitting on the couch kind of just being quiet, doing his own thing in Tiger. And a bunch of VIPs around and me just standing in locker with Tiger's guys. And they're like, at 730, we're going to announce that everyone needs a report to the T to get their photo with Tiger and Phil.
Starting point is 00:08:52 So everyone will clear out. and they're like when everyone clears out, hopefully it'll just be you and Tiger in the locker room and we'll hold him back and hopefully you can get your two minutes. Stop right there. This is where you were talking about where this is the guy who is the hardest guy, the most guarded guy, the busiest guy that you have to, your opportunity with him was when the reporters clear out and there's like a two minute win. That's like secret service in the president.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Like, hey, let's hope that tiger just gets up slowly from this. Basically. Basically. And like, and it just worked. Like they're like all and here I am standing there like okay in the next three minutes I'm maybe probably going to interview Tiger in like a really makeshift way. Yeah. I'm like holy fuck. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Let's actually talk about that. So when you get the text at 7 a.m. You're on the shuttle. You're like, all right, we're going to do this thing where I'm going to hand you my phone and we're going to do these rapid fire questions. How nervous are you? Are you shaking? Are you throwing up on Jake? Like what's happening?
Starting point is 00:09:46 Great question. So on the, Jake's not there. Okay. Because Jake, it was just me. Jake wasn't, they didn't have a spot for Jake. in the pro-amp. I see. So I'm literally on a shuttle with one other guy who was a super hungover guy from Turner who had gotten
Starting point is 00:09:58 shit-faced a night before. Really nice guy. Probably a long night for him. Totally. We like talking about that. He's like, dude, thank God I don't work for like the payment technical team. I work in sales or something like that. He's like, but those motherfuckers have a bad day. Yep. But he was like hungover. So here I am on this shuttle. Shuttle's probably
Starting point is 00:10:14 20 minutes to Shadow Creek. And I find out a couple minutes into the shuttle ride that this is probably going to happen. So I have to, I'm now thinking logistically like, I want to make sure nothing gets messed up, so I want it to be on my phone, and I have to hand my phone away, so I'm not going to be able to have any notes for my interview with Tiger. I just have to rattle off the top of my head. Now, it's only a handful of questions because it's just a couple minutes, but if Tiger gives me really short two-word answers, and we get five questions in, I need to have like five or ten more questions. I need to be ready to go.
Starting point is 00:10:45 And so I'm sitting on this shuttle, and obviously, like I've thought before, if I could interview Tiger, I have some questions in my brain. but I'm sitting there like, okay, if your brain locks up or you just have like a moment where you just can't think for a second or something, you're going to be the most infamous moment in Barstall history where rigs like blew it with Tiger. Right. It was just like dead air where you're just standing there like awkwardly. Always in these things, you always have a safety net of like you have a couple bullet points
Starting point is 00:11:11 and you can just look at it and it re-triggers your brain and you think of something and you can ask somebody a question. I didn't have any of that. I didn't have a microphone. I don't even know what to do in my hand. You guys will see it from the video. I'm just, like, my hands are just here in, like, floating in the air, because I didn't have anything to hold on to. So, uh, so I started thinking about all those logistics, and I'm trying to memorize this stuff.
Starting point is 00:11:31 And this guy next to me, he's hungover slash still drunk, chatting me up about stuff. Oh, boy. But I didn't want to be like, hey, man, I'm getting ready to interview Tiger Woods, shut up. So I'm like, trying to play off him, but looking at my phone and trying to come up with, like, witty questions to, like, what do I really want to get out of this? I got to come up with some memorable stuff. But also Tiger's a tiger, he's not going to, he's not going to give me like these crazy in-depth. really funny stuff that no one's ever heard before ever like he's just not going to do that so i was trying to think about all these things i would have thrown up meanwhile i literally i'm
Starting point is 00:12:01 i'm not i'm shaking on the way there yeah like shaking i'm like what the what is happening shaking when i saw the picture it's also it's seven a m in vegas like everyone's shaking half people are still out parted it's like what has happened drank the night before like where you know luckily dude on friday night jake and i shut it down like we went yeah because we you know we had a long day and i knew there was a chance that i was was going to get Tiger the next morning. Yeah. Like,
Starting point is 00:12:23 I just knew there was a chance. Matt, and you were hung over a shit, and you were, like, throwing up on Tiger Woods. Totally. Like Tiger. He's like,
Starting point is 00:12:29 he's like, you smell like booed. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Totally. So luckily I had gone to sleep. I was well rested.
Starting point is 00:12:35 I kind of popped up. I was going to play Shadow Creek the next day. So I was pretty excited. Yeah. But anyways, I get this. We arrive on property. I walk into the locker room. I didn't really know what to be a tiger's just sitting there on the couch in the locker room and
Starting point is 00:12:45 Phil standing there. So I was like, holy shit, what's going on. Then they kind of hit me with the, all right, just hang around us and Tiger's bag, which Tiger's golf bag is just sitting in the,
Starting point is 00:12:53 with his Tiger head cover and stuff. It's just sitting in the locker room and I'm standing near it. So the Tigers guys, you know, they kind of, they tell me about this plan. I'm like, that's our plan.
Starting point is 00:13:05 Best plan ever. Okay, love it. So sure enough, it gets close to 730 and I'm like, oh shit. And they make the announcer, everybody clears out, this girl that kind of works for the match and all that comes in.
Starting point is 00:13:15 And she's like, Tiger, you're needed outside, Phil's waiting for you and Tiger's guys go, we got him, he'll be out one minute. She's like, okay, so they like blew this girl off. She like rolls out. And then at that point, that's when it's just me, two of Tigers guys, Joey and Tiger, the only people in the locker room. And I'm just standing there awkwardly, like in the middle locker.
Starting point is 00:13:33 I'm like, in the next 30 seconds, I'm going to meet Tiger Woods for the first time. What was he doing at that point, just like standing around looking at his phone? He had just gone to the bathroom and then come back and was putting his shoes on. He was throwing his golf shoes on. Oh, what that look like? Honestly, I was so nervous. I didn't even remember. You probably blacked out.
Starting point is 00:13:48 I was thinking about what I wanted to say. So I was like, all right, here's your first question. Here's your second question. Here's your third question. Like, here's how you're going to do it. Do you have the balls to do this? Because my last question, people will see, was kind of like a funny little, like a trick Tiger a little bit.
Starting point is 00:14:01 So you guys will see that. But anyways, I'm standing there. I'm like, in the next 30 seconds, I'm going to meet Tiger Woods. Like, that's just what's going to happen. So sure enough, like the guys go over and I can hear them kind of muttering. They're like, hey man, if you don't mind, we got rigs from Barstool over here. it's like two minutes just to fill him like a quick interview if you don't mind. Tiger's like, yeah, man, no problem.
Starting point is 00:14:19 So then he comes walking over. Did he know who you were or have any idea? I think he had a general sense of who I was. Okay. I really do. And there's a couple reasons, which I'll talk about afterwards, why I think that. But anyways, he comes over and I just looked right at him and I was like, hey man, I'm Riggs. A big fan really nice to meet you.
Starting point is 00:14:36 He's like, oh, I really appreciate that. Oh, my God. And then right as I said that, his guy goes, Tiger Riggs is, you know, we talk all the time about all your fans on social media. And he was like, Riggs and the foreplay guys, they, like, literally lead the charge for that fandom. They're, like, the biggest fans on the internet. And he was like, man, I really appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:14:54 That's awesome. And I was like, yeah, he was genuinely like, oh, like, thank you. That's cool. So we chitchatted for, like, 10 seconds. And right before we get ready to hit record, like, it honestly was so, it was so, like, makeshift that I honestly handed my phone to one of Tigers guys. And he grabs it.
Starting point is 00:15:14 And he's like, you want like landscape or what do you think? Like, that's how like makeshift it was. And I was like, yeah, landscape. And I, thank God, I remembered to take my mofie off my phone before because it doesn't do as good audio with the mofi on it. So I took that off. Handed that. That's how like random and makeshift it was. But anyways, so I hand my phone to him.
Starting point is 00:15:31 And then right before they hit record, Joey La Cava walks up. And he peeks his head over my shoulder between me and Tiger and puts his fist out there. And he's like, Riggsie, good to see you. Let's go, man. And like gave me a little fist pound like, like, like. Like Joey Lika Likava's rooting for me. Like literally in Tiger's face. And Tiger saw that.
Starting point is 00:15:48 Tiger saw that totally like that clearly opened Tiger up a bit where he was like, okay, like this guy's cool. It's like Joey and my guys like him. I'll like him. And Tiger's the kind of guy too. I think he holds grudges against guys that don't like him. And if you're an ally, he likes you. So clearly he got that vibe and Joey doing that. I was like tweeting about it earlier, but Joey doing that was like, I got this boost in the ass.
Starting point is 00:16:12 And I was like, I will not fuck this up. I'm very excited for that. And also right before this, I had, like, literally two minutes before we got the interview, my boy was like, hey, do you bring your tiger goat shirt? And I was like, yep, I brought it in a backpack. I brought a bunch of different stuff, like a sweater, a shirt. Because I had a couple of the other skit we were going to do involved, like, Tiger. I was going to hope Tiger had sunglasses on and hope he dressed exactly like the shirt.
Starting point is 00:16:38 And I was going to wear the shirt and have them, like, do this awkward. like this is sports center type thing was kind of the other skit. So I had the shirt. So I ran over really quick because I was dressed for a golf tournament. So I took off my golf shirt and my pullover. I put the tiger shirt on underneath it and then put the pullover on. Did the interview with the pullover on and then took it off afterwards.
Starting point is 00:16:58 But anyways, that moment when Joey Lakava has just like fist pounded me and been like, let's go, Rigsie. I'm all juiced up. And then we got Tiger. So here's like three minutes with Tiger Woods. All right. We're here at Shadow Creek in the locker room with Tiger Woods. Tiger, you might know this big fan.
Starting point is 00:17:13 We're going to go rapid-fire quick, very quick. First question, I've had a perfectly healthy back. Never had any back issues, never any back pain. However, after watching this year, I'm very much thinking about getting swine fusion surgery. Your thoughts. Let's just skip that. Just keep what you got. I know that I've been very lucky with the outcome of my procedure.
Starting point is 00:17:36 But it was the last ditch attempt. most ridiculous, preposterous thing you've ever seen or heard from the gallery? Oh, that is... Well, I've seen a lot of different things, I've heard a lot of different things. Whether they've gotten on me or said some pretty interesting things. Yeah, it usually happens late afternoons on Friday, Saturdays, and Sunday when they're a little bit more late. It gets a little rowdy out there. What do you thoughts about the fans this year?
Starting point is 00:18:05 They've been too much, or they've been kind of what you expect? because, you know, Rory made some comments that maybe it cost you a couple strokes. You know, I think that they've been more supportive than they've ever met. It's been very different. The support has been off the charts, and more than anything, I think they're much louder now because we have camera phones in our hands. Right. There's no clapping anymore.
Starting point is 00:18:30 Everyone's just yelling, so I think that the people have supported, and the volume's definitely gone up. We've had a lot of caddies on the show. Joey. I had to go beers with Joe before. What's the biggest call he's made thus far in his career with you? We've read a couple of good putts that really mattered. At the tour championship, he read a couple puts that were huge. But I think more than anything, it's Joey knowing that how much adrenaline I got my system, but one club to hit on between clubs. He knows my system. He knows how he's when I'm hitting that one particular day. And he's, he's a lot. And he's, You ever tell him like hey I'm a little juiced up right now?
Starting point is 00:19:12 Yeah, he knows it, he can see it. He can see my speed and what I've got and where I'm walking. I'm talking to him. He's got a pretty good beat on me. So 2019 there's three major championship venues that you won't have before, Augusta, Beth Bage, which on the street from us? And obviously Pebble, if I were to bet on one of those, which one are you most likely to win at?
Starting point is 00:19:33 Um, Jeremy, how hard I didn't run? One, I probably filled the most comfortable event. I always help her come back all their old players, and we're looking forward. I love to hear that. Last question, if you heard the, or saw the letters, V-I-V-A, how would you pronounce it? How do you know? V-I-V-A. V-I-V-A?
Starting point is 00:19:56 V-A-V-A-Lustool? Thank you, Ty. You appreciate it. Yeah, man. Thanks a lot. Now through December 25th, the 23 and Me DNA kits are on sale. 23 and Me helps you understand what your DNA kits. can tell you about you and your family story. It's named for the 23 pairs of chromosomes that make up your DNA.
Starting point is 00:20:15 Very interesting. Little science right there. Yeah. Big time science. This has become a science podcast ever since we had our guy, Bryce N. Chambot on. A 23 and me DNA kid is the perfect gift for everyone you love. There's never been a better way to give the gift of genetic discovery to your parents,
Starting point is 00:20:30 your siblings, your aunts, your grandparents, and everyone else on your list. It's the one gift that you can buy the entire family that will be unique for each loved one. The way that this thing works is you take this DNA test and then your parents take it as well. And then you sort of match up and put the pieces of the code together and learn everything about where you're from and what you are. I have not done this, but I'm going to do it because I want to know. I feel like for the most part you just guess. Like I'm 50% this. I'm 38% that.
Starting point is 00:20:56 But I would like, it'd be nice to know. We've got somebody who found out there's like there have a bunch of African descent and it's just like that stuff. That is awesome. Yeah. That is honestly the coolest they ever. Yeah. You find out where you came from. What's cool other than that?
Starting point is 00:21:08 There is nothing cool. Instead of just guessing. I feel like I've always been like, oh, I'm 7% this and that's just complete BS numbers. I think I just tell people I'm 50% Irish and I'm 50% Scottish. I think that's just what I say. Like my last name ends in I A& so I just say I'm Armenia. There you go. And I might be like 1% Armenian.
Starting point is 00:21:24 Or you might be 90% or me. Who knows? I have no clue. They just somebody named me that. You should do 23 and me. 23 and me is going to tell me all the details. I'm very excited about it. So go get it.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Here's what we're going to do for you guys. now through December 25th you get a special discount on your 23 and me kit order your DNA kit at 23 and me.com slash 4. That's the number 23 and me.me.com slash 4. Again, that's 23 and me.com slash 4. All right, that was Tiger Woods on the 4Play Golf podcast. Frankie and Trent just listened to it in real time for the first time and just watch the video. I mean, first of all, you guys were literally like, even as he was talking, you guys were just like, that's a mythical creature that is not so i said this over the weekend when i saw that you did this and i said to my
Starting point is 00:22:11 buddies like you interviewed and you talked to someone that's not a real person like we we we read about those types of people in history books we read about them we watch them in movies like like like like mythical movies that like you would be like oh my god i love this superhero i want to meet superman i want to meet batman but they're not real we talk about tiger woods like that and then tiger woods just like was in front of you you were talking to him he was responding to you And listening to it, that interview went on forever. What did it, like, a 30-minute interview with Tiger Woods even feel like? Because, like, three minutes felt like an eternity.
Starting point is 00:22:44 Honestly, when we finished up and I looked at my phone, I expected it to say, like, 20 minutes interview. That's how long it felt. I mean, you could see how nervous you were because I barely get the words out at first. You're like so. I cannot keep my breath. And I have to breathe like this. I'm a living human being. No, I couldn't keep my eyes off of you because you were like trying not to pass out.
Starting point is 00:23:04 You're trying to think of the next question, but you're standing in front of, like Frankie said, like, we talk about, we're lucky to be alive at the same time as Tiger, where we get to watch him. And it's like, generate a hundred years from now, people will be like, oh, my God, I can't believe people were alive when Tiger was around. And then you were around when you got to meet Tiger and talk to Tiger and ask him questions. I honestly, I felt like a presidential candidate up on stage when you know they're dissecting everything that you do. Yeah. I was standing there, like, every stoolie and fan that we've ever had is only going to, like, look at me. and how my hands are, like I didn't know what you had seven different hand movements. You went from the hips to the top and the air.
Starting point is 00:23:39 I was close to just putting them over my head at some point. Like, what are we doing here? What are the hands supposed to be doing? So then right after that, right after we finish the interview, I take off my pullover and I've got the goat shirt on underneath the goat tiger shirt. And Tiger looks at me and laughs and goes, that's funny as shit. And he said it like twice. He's like, that's funny as shit, as we're taking a picture. And then I said off the show and off the record, I told these guys a story.
Starting point is 00:24:07 And it's a story that Tiger and I will always have a little comment that he made that I can't repeat. But I want everyone to know, it was laugh out loud, funny. And it made him like such a normal real moment that like two just guys had in a locker room that I'll have forever that I shared with these guys that we can't share on the record, but just everyone to know that we've got that and that he was cool as hell. He was genuine as hell. Even chatting off camera for a moment. he was kind of like laughing it up with his crew and in responding to things that other people were saying. So it was something.
Starting point is 00:24:39 And then I was saying too that right after we did this, we kind of like walked out of the locker room together. Tiger was going out to the range to take these photos that you had been held back for. And then I sprinted back into the clubhouse, which I like realized that he was going to go mingle with other people. Obviously followed him as long as I just was like near him. And then sprinted back into the clubhouse because that's where they had Wi-Fi. and the most to I wanted to send it out because literally like if I fell into a fucking pond or my phone just lit on fire and exploded the video would be gone forever yeah most nervous I've ever been in my life was pulling my phone out of my pocket and looking to make sure that
Starting point is 00:25:12 like it had been recorded oh yeah existed and like we said we've had moments everybody's had moments before where a buddy's supposed to film something you're supposed to film something and you double tap record oh yeah or you just miss when you hit record yeah or something bet page us open tiger woods hit a ball right in front of me at my feet and I thought I had the whole video he came over to us like tapped one of my buddies on the shoulder i think he even like tapped me on like the arm like you guys okay and like i had the whole thing on video it was like the best moment of my life but i hit photo so i have the i had the front and i and this is on like seven phones ago this is on like a droid i think it was like 2004 or whatever and i just i looked at my
Starting point is 00:25:47 phone i'm like oh my god i got the whole thing on video i'm crying and i looked at it and it's just like the ground twice it's just the ground two times we've all done that before so i was like dude if this guy this isn't a camera guy this is just literally like Tiger's buddy Tiger's guy even if he fucked it up he'd be like ah sorry man like maybe next time yeah he'd be like yeah no we'll just get him again I'd be like no dude that might be 10 years from now what are you talking about we'll get him again I will say also you're given an impossible task right you're given three minutes with Tiger where if we had five hours with Tiger like we wouldn't be able to ask all
Starting point is 00:26:18 the questions that we wanted to like we've read about this guy we've been following him his whole career so for you just to be like all right I got three minutes with him I'm going to ask all these questions like that is a her it's a big task and i think you nailed it i appreciate that the first question i loved like i had to ask him something about the fusion yeah with the back fusion he laughed uh and then i got him and say viva and i was trying to think like what clip could i what what can we do we'll be able to use that forever like we're going to put that in the intro with the show that tiger said viva uh but yeah man when i got back to the locker room and i looked at my phone and I saw there was like two minutes and 55 seconds of a video with Tiger.
Starting point is 00:26:51 And I just fast forwarded it real quick to make sure like the sound worked and that the video wasn't like blurry. And I was like, we got it. And I sent it to Jake and I emailed it to myself to make sure it just existed in the cloud and all that forever. And then I looked at the photo of me and Tiger with the goat shirt. And first of all, everyone's caught every other comment is how I have a massive bulge in the photo. Oh, you do?
Starting point is 00:27:13 Apparently it looks like I just have like the biggest tiger boner of all time. expected. Everyone's commenting that. The other thing people were saying, like, we left room for the Holy Spirit in between us. Because we're, like, we're doing, like, a little, like, bro hug picture, but we're obviously not, like, I only was going to get as close as Tiger wanted to get. So here we are doing, like, we got our arms touching each other. I'm, like, touching Tiger Woods and taking this photo.
Starting point is 00:27:38 And there is a legitimate space in between us in this photo. Let's talk about the most important part of this picture now. My eyes? It's insane. How insane is that? Your eyes are. Like, the strict. greatest picture I've ever taken.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Your eyes are straighter than tigers. So I don't know about that. So when I, then when I looked at the picture, I just, the fact that we had the video and the picture came out not horrible for me where I looked like fine. He's like genuinely smiling. Big tiger smile. When you see someone of like this, you know, this magnitude, sometimes I figure like they've taken so many pictures in their life that maybe they've just like they've reduced their smile to just like a smirk because he's smiled with a billion people before. Like he has to, but he's like, he's with an old friend right there. He honestly, he was just coming off his little quip about like, that's funny as shit about my shirt.
Starting point is 00:28:23 So he was laughing. He was like, he was in a good mood. He was feeling good. I love that you guys are just standing while you're in the clubhouse, right? Like, it's just, that's the most barstool picture of all time. Just in like this random spot in the clubhouse. Yeah, that's where you met Tiger. Same with the video too.
Starting point is 00:28:37 I don't know. It's the most barstool thing ever that in our interview finally with Tiger, that is just the audio from an iPhone camera. There's like, fucking There's phones and shit going off. Other guys are like, meeting each other and yelling in the back of us. Hello, we're fucking interviewing Tiger Woods over here.
Starting point is 00:28:54 Do you see what's happening? I guess Jan can hold the fuck off for two seconds. Hey, Jan, shut the fuck up. That was funny, like, I imagined in my head that wherever Tiger goes, it's silent because everyone's just looking at him and staring at him. I was stunned that there were people in the background
Starting point is 00:29:06 coming out of the bathroom being like, hey, it's going to be a good day today. Like, shut the fuck up. Who gives a fuck about what kind of day it is today? I'm interviewing Tiger Woods over here. I was stunned by that. Shut your pie hole, people. So, yeah, so the photo, the photo came out great.
Starting point is 00:29:20 So then at this moment, I'm sitting there looking at my phone. I'm sending everything to everybody. I put the tweet up. Tweets going crazy. Talk about the fact, too, that Tiger puts ass in the seats. I got twice as many likes on this Instagram picture of Tiger as I've ever gotten on any other Instagram. Twice as many. It's insane.
Starting point is 00:29:36 Well, yeah, he put that in the season. I mean, he just does. That's your guy. That's the one that you needed. That's our guy. That's our guy. So it was insane. Then I haven't told anybody.
Starting point is 00:29:45 this yet. So then we walk out to the range and at this point, you know, it's not even 8 a.m. yet. It's early in the morning. Getting ready to play a pro-am with Paige Sparantic. Jimmy Rollins. Wow. I love Jim Rolins. Yeah, he was great. He was really nice guy. Bob Menary and then another guy from MGM who worked at MGM. And it's like open bar on like every hole. So now I've got this tiger interview in the bag. I've got a tiger photo that came out amazingly well. all we got to do is like drink and play off the rest of the day on Saturday in Vegas. So we start getting cranked at fucking Wolf Creek. At Shadow Creek, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:30:22 No, there's a couple creeks. There's a lot of... Did you play Wolf Creek? Played Wolf Creek and Shadow Creek. God, damn. We'll talk all about that. How many fucking creeks did you play? There were creeks.
Starting point is 00:30:29 There are a lot of creeks in the desert. Somebody goddamn creeks in the desert. So we roll out to the range, and a big part of the pro-am thing is Tiger and Phil were taking the photos that they naturally held him back for so he could do an interview with the rickson, Barstall Sports and Four Play Golf Podcast. and they call our group over. And so we go over to take this photo now with Tiger and Phil, and I meet Phil for the first time. And I'm like, hey, Phil, I'm Riggs.
Starting point is 00:30:53 And he goes, you and I got to do it on Twitter, didn't we? No, he didn't. I swear to God. And I was like, oh, yeah, man, I even realize that you like remember that. He goes, yeah, man, that was a lot of fun. He goes, I ended up getting the best of you, though, didn't I? What is going on? Are you kidding me?
Starting point is 00:31:07 A couple things, one. He runs his own Twitter? He runs his own Twitter. That's what was my first one. Wasn't that insane? Like, I don't, we'll get to that. That's stunning. And two, you got the best to him in that exchange, by the way.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Well, I think his point was that he won the match. I see what you're saying. But I roasted him in this change. I dusted him in Twitter. But he literally goes, yeah. Months ago. He goes, that was like two months ago. He goes, that was a ton of fun.
Starting point is 00:31:26 Like, I really appreciate you coming out and doing the match and cover the match and everything. That was a lot of fun. And then we took our photo. And then right afterwards, he sought me out again. And he's like, yeah, Riggs. Like, we had a ton of phone on Twitter. Again, like, I was really fun. I was new to the social media, but I was a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:31:41 And I was like, yeah, man. and he's like, thanks again for coming out. It was great to meet you. That honestly might be more stunning than the tiger stuff. Dude, this is like, Phil's no fucking slouch you. Dude, I was trying to think about it too. Like, did somebody prep him? But they were going rapid fire pictures.
Starting point is 00:31:55 So they would have had to tell him, hey, the 93rd person you meet today is going to be rigs from Barstool who we chirped on Twitter and he chirped you back. Was there a guy around him, like, whispered and he like, hey, this is right here. It was literally just Phil and Tiger on this corner of the range. It's such a crazy thing to say out loud. Phil and Tiger, Phil and Tiger on the corner of the range, and honestly just like a long line of people, basically, that when their name was called, jumped in to take pictures with him. And he had no prep work beforehand. It was like, Paige shook his hand and said hi. Jimmy shook his hand and said hi.
Starting point is 00:32:29 And then it was like, and then I was like, oh, hey, I'm Riggs. Really nice to meet you. And he goes, Riggs, you and I got into it on Twitter. And I was like, I was stunned. I was honestly just stunned. It was shocking. That is also product of like, whenever we do things. something and we see it get all those likes.
Starting point is 00:32:42 We're like, they got to see this, right? Yeah. They do see it. Right. So I don't know that he necessarily runs it, but I think he keeps up to date with it. Yeah. Like, I think that he probably, they're like, yeah, anytime you want to post a picture, go for it and log in and do some stuff to do something. So I was a little bit nervous that is Tiger going to be like, oh.
Starting point is 00:32:59 You horn it out? Yes, he just fans of everybody. Right. What the hell is this shit? But I did like that Phil said out loud like, oh, you would go out of Twitter. Did Tiger? I almost felt like I needed to go over to Tiger. Be like, hey, man, just so you know, I roasted it.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Because you know, we all. The last thing you want to do is be kicked out of that inner stuff. I'm in the circle. I'm like, Phil, get away from me. Stop talking to me. It's kind of like those things I've been going viral where it's like a girl or a guy, like seven guys will be at a party and they'll get the same snap from a girl. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:26 And they'll all open it up at the same time. It's like, hey, you up or something like that? Yeah. It's like, Tiger probably felt like, oh. Totally. So I was like, I'm honestly, I'm still a little bit nervous about it. No, no, my main question was, did Tiger hear how, like, Phil thought you were like, like, like, a boy?
Starting point is 00:33:38 Like, was Tiger in that mix? Did he, like, hear him sad? mixing up with you? I think... Now Tiger's got to be like, who the hell is this guy? Tiger's like... Well, right. Like, I think a part of me hopes that Tiger looked and was like, oh, that guy's like,
Starting point is 00:33:50 Phil trusts him too. Yeah. He's like, he's in the mix. Phil knows who he is. Right. My team knew who he was. Joey knows who he was. Meanwhile, that's all like an inflated version of me.
Starting point is 00:33:58 That's not a reality. Right. That was just luck. Like, all that happening was just crazy luck. Yeah. That it happened at the same time. Well, thank it. But again, I was nervous.
Starting point is 00:34:05 I literally almost went over Tiger and whispered his ear like, hey, dude, we're not... would have been so funny. Fuck that guy. If Rinks had looked over and Tiger was just daggers at him, like, what the fuck is this guy doing? Oh, you'll just smooze anybody. Or if he said it out of like, oh, my biggest fan, huh? Or if he looked at me like Robert De Niro and did the eye thing, like, I'm out of the circle now. It's that time of year again, holiday season.

Starting point is 00:36:16 C.O. slash foreplay. One more time. Grove. C.O. slash foreplay. That's not grove. That's grove.
Starting point is 00:36:23 C.O. slash for play. Uh, but so that was crazy. And then literally after that, we just played golf all day and pounded drinks. And this guy, the guy that I rode in the cart with was the MGM guy, who his job basically is like, you know, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he. he like hangs out with big guests and stuff like that at MGM and he was a part of the match and whatnot. So this guy was the most equipped guy to do like a scramble pro-am in the world.
Starting point is 00:36:47 Yeah. We had beers coming out of our cart. We had like margaritas. We had transfusions. We're literally just flowing out of our golf cart. He's got the speaker. He was like, no, no, you're with me now. Let's do this.
Starting point is 00:36:57 So then it was just the greatest Saturday of all time. Jesus. Oh, it was insane. It was absolutely insane. Met Tiger. Again, I hope everybody out there understands the goal. the goal going forward still is to get Tiger Woods on like a 30 to 60 minute podcast. Sure. That is the goal. That was actually the main goal of the whole time going out there was like to put in the groundwork and the networking to make that happen in the future.
Starting point is 00:37:19 And if we get like a picture out of it, that'd be cool. Instead, we got an interview with Tiger Woods that we got to play on this podcast and a video and all that, which is a bonus. Right. But that's the goal. I think we made strides with that. He was cool as hell. His team was cool as hell. Let's talk about the match. The match. There was a lot of Chich. about this thing back and forth. We went back and forth on it. There were parts about it beforehand that we hated. There were parts about it beforehand that we loved.
Starting point is 00:37:44 Now it's happened. My first question, before we get in anything else, I would like to ask both of you this. If the match were this next weekend on Saturday, would you buy it? Yeah, I was asked this by Dave, actually, too, because he was very curious, because he was a pretty big anti,
Starting point is 00:38:04 like, you know, all these people have spent $20 on Tiger Wool. woods like what does he do whatever and i said that i the actual match meant less to me than i thought it would like like like the winner and loser and i guess that comes off as like oh he lost so i'm just saying that but like never until he chipped in obviously and like tied it up then like the juices started flow but when i was watching it i was just watching and i was also watching on a plane it was like impossible it was like the worst thing ever but it was impossible to like i don't know like get into like the shots they were hitting i just wanted to like hear them talk that's all i want to do so yes i would buy it again just to hear tiger talk but
Starting point is 00:38:36 talk to Joe and like see what kind of things he does like when he's reading greens and the way he like breathes and like if he gets tired when he's walking out of a sand trap like that stuff was even like Phil was really cool too the way like he was talking to his caddy and everything was just awesome in that aspect but I don't really care if like a guy made a birdie or a part that part like really shocked me that I didn't give a fuck about yeah at all Trent daddy yeah I would definitely buy it again but I think we're in the like one percent of tiger fans who like you're saying and we talked about it before the the match happened where we would watch him literally do anything.
Starting point is 00:39:09 Right. So, of course, I'm going to watch him walk around for four hours and maybe mix it up with Phil a little bit and hit some shots. But, yeah, I would agree with Frankie where it's like I wasn't all that invested in the match. I don't want to say they weren't invested in the match, but it was more like laid back than I thought it was an hour period where you forgot that they were even playing like a competitive match.
Starting point is 00:39:26 An hour. I agree with that. I would buy it again. However, I would hope that they'd learn a lot and make a lot of improvements. Yeah. It was, I think that I was both more excited than the average person for the match, and I think I was also as let down as most people by the match. I think that the commentary was a shit show. Dog shit.
Starting point is 00:39:49 There were too many cooks in the kitchen. Peter Jacobson, who we've had on this show before, he spoke too much, and at the wrong times, he just dominated a lot of the coverage, which it's like, look, Peter Jacobson, you're fine. in the, you know, kind of the color commentary, and you'd pick, like, a whole lot of times on NBC and golf channel coverage, and you're great. He just, he took too big of a role and spoke at the wrong time. Well, his problem and a lot of their problem with the commentary was they didn't adjust to, they're used to normal tour events where they have to fill a lot of dead air.
Starting point is 00:40:19 Like, no, like the guys aren't usually miced up. And if they are, they're like, all right, we're going to cut to Tiger talking to his caddy here. But they weren't, they're not used to just like letting it be and letting the guys on the course talk. And they talked way too much. We don't need any commentary. I could have had zero commentary and enjoyed it more than I did. I don't need the flyover of the holes. I just want to watch them and then just have a mic'd up.
Starting point is 00:40:41 That's all I was, that's all I cared about. I think that's right. I honestly, I think that's correct. And I think that they, you know, they misjudged that. I think that they thought, we're going to need this perfect, we're going to need this perfect sort of transition and kind of commentary hub that sends it to those moments. But they couldn't do that because they didn't know when those moments were. coming because they just happened live.
Starting point is 00:41:02 Yes. Right? So, like, it's not like they got to tape everything and then put those moments in when they happened. It was like, they're just happening live. So just let it happen. And if anything, they needed maybe, like, I thought Shane Bacon did a phenomenal job. Same.
Starting point is 00:41:15 Who we've also had on the show. He was kind of the star from the whole thing outside of the Tiger and Phil. And he, if anything in the future, they should just let him basically run all of the audio. No doubt for the whole thing, essentially. And if he determines, like, we should throw it back to the booth for 30. seconds, fine. But him and, like, Charles Barkley on course would be great. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:36 Like, that would do really well. Maybe throw Pat Perez in there because he was great on the tel-Gas. Maybe put P.P., Sean Bacon, and Charles Barkley on course. So they could actually walk with them as well and chirp them and get them like on an interview in between shots or something like that. But when they threw it, they had two different booths going with, like, three people at each one and the on-course and Tiger and Phil and Joey and Nick Mickelson or whatever his name is. It was crazy.
Starting point is 00:42:00 He would have Ernie throwing it to Charles Barkley and Pat Perez, and you're like, what are we doing right now? Why are we talking and why are we not watching Tiger and Phil talk? And then Ernie had to tell Charles Barkley to stop talking at one point. He goes, hey, Charles, can you let us do our job up here? And the job he meant was like, we're going to do this flyover, digital flyover of this whole while Phil is like talking to his caddy. Like talking about the USGA rules and stuff. Like, what are you doing? I said, Nick.
Starting point is 00:42:27 Tim Mickelson. Right. What are you doing, man? Like, shut the hell up. So that stuff, that stuff drove us crazy. And again, I think it was just too many cooks in the kitchen. The internet is an imperfect place, and we've done that with our live shit where it's like, we don't know how things are going to go.
Starting point is 00:42:40 But they treat, they went too far the other way where they treated it like a television, like it was a television event when it just wasn't. Like it was a live streaming event. It's a new thing. We get that it's going to be hard to plan and for what's going to happen. But you're right, they just, they need to dial the commentary way, way back. It seems like it was one of the, like, sports's, like, craziest moments that we've seen, right? like two of the top players in a sport
Starting point is 00:43:00 we're going to go head to head for $9 million in cash. It was going to be like this awesome thing. So you would expect it to be this huge spectacle. But honestly, it geared up to be more of a barstool event than it should. Like, we would have probably crushed that more because we're used to just having two guys miced up and like just like walking with people. Like we have guys just watching sports and it gets thousands and thousands of views. Like we're more geared for like just the everyday watching these two guys just do something
Starting point is 00:43:24 as opposed to like this huge production that. And it showed that like the world doesn't. like that. Like what we do actually is more. It's just like less is more. I couldn't have two big personalities like that. Less is more. I could not agree more. We had a lot of people being like Riggs versus Whitney is going to be way more entertaining. And I fully agree that it's going to be. It'll be a better product. It'll definitely be a better product. And that's not just braggadocious. It's because we live in the world where things are more natural and chaotic. Natural. That's what we need. You know, right? And they tried to make it, you know, they tried to control something that's
Starting point is 00:43:55 supposed to just be natural. Yes. Right. Like if you want this to be, honestly it would have been a better product if they didn't say anything to anybody and they just miced up Tiger and Phil eight seconds before they teed off in a Tuesday practice round together. That would have been an all-time product? Yes. And what would you need for that? Would there be this team of 18 commentators? No.
Starting point is 00:44:15 No. You literally just miced the two of them up and then put out a notice right when they teed off and said, hey, if you pay $19.99, you can watch Tiger and Phil. They're miced up and their cadets are miced up and they didn't even know it until two seconds ago. everybody would do it and it would have been a better product 100%. So you're right. They just they overthought it. The whole idea on its own was great. But
Starting point is 00:44:35 once you overthink it, once you put so much into it, once you get all these different commentators and all that stuff involved in it, they become so focused on like, oh, we have to put a show on it. Then it's not natural and it's not real. And then the other thing that happened was it was build so focusedly, so they focus
Starting point is 00:44:53 so much on billing it as entertainment and they're going to talk shit to each other and there's going to be cursing and there's going to be all these wild side bets side sauce as phil called it and really what happened was that the golf was so competitive down the stretch in the end and the back nine that tiger's not talk talkative when he's when he really wants to win something so it actually what it gave us was something that i think is the coolest thing about tiger and phil is how competitive they are and how much they wanted to win but it'd been the focus was so much on the other aspect of it that that almost got like they almost
Starting point is 00:45:27 People were... They set it up wrong. Right. Treating that like that ruined it. Yep. In reality, like, no, dude, we got really intense Tiger Woods. We got an awesome Tiger Woods moment the day after fucking Thanksgiving on a weekend that would have never existed for Tiger Woods playing golf if they didn't do this. That was really cool.
Starting point is 00:45:43 And Tiger chipped in on 17. That was insane. Like the fact that happened, there's a goddamn fake waterfall behind him on like the signature whole. It's so Vegas. Yeah, it's so Vegas. I think they almost kicked me off the flight mid-flight when that happened because I was somehow. some way the Wi-Fi on that flight was, like, working. So I was streaming the Islander game on the laptop, and I was streaming the,
Starting point is 00:46:03 the, um, Blue Triport Live. And, and the island, for free, for free, right? For free. Literally for free. That's what I was doing. The guy, everyone in our play was just watching the match. I, like, made an ass. I'm like, the golf match is now free. And everyone's just like, looking around like, holy shit, like going crazy. Anyway, the Islanders won, like on an overtime breakaway goal. I went, whoa!
Starting point is 00:46:28 And then I turned over back to the Gulf, and, like, Tiger was getting ready to chip. And he chipped in. It all happened in 10 seconds. The guy's sitting next to me, he's like, can we get this guy like a beer or something? This guy is celebrating. And we're just, like, on a plane. Like, I took my headphones off and you realize you're in, like, silence. And I'm, like, screaming.
Starting point is 00:46:43 My world is, like, collapsing and, like, this fireworks going out of my head. And I take it off, and, like, you just hear, like, we are now descending into the... Like, I was like, what the fuck is going on? Like, that was too much for me to handle. So that was, right? That was, like, an awesome moment that would have never really. existed if this match didn't exist. But instead of focusing on that, it was all about like, well, they weren't trash talking
Starting point is 00:47:02 and this and that. So I just think the focus was a little bit off on that. And had they not had all the commentary that sort of took you out of the match and into whatever the hell they were talking about, then you would have been so invested in that moment because you would have been, like, imagine how cool it would be and dramatic it would be, just staring at your TV for three minutes straight and almost no words are said because of how intense the buildup is. And then all of a sudden, Tiger holes out and you can just hear Tiger be like,
Starting point is 00:47:26 wow you're nuts like that's what it should have been Robin hood is an investing app that lets you buy and sell stocks, ETFs, options and crypto's all commission free. Starting point is 00:48:08 But, God, it feels good to be playing it and to get something that's all commission free. A bit of a rush. Instead of watching a Broncos game, you watch the stock market. You know, it just feels like I can chat about it. Like, oh, yeah, I'm in the market. Oh, I see. It's kind of nice. Starting point is 00:49:11 So, you know, so that was cool. There were times where they were actually taking their mics down. You could tell, like, it would be like a very faint, fill voice, and then you'd hear them just shoot it straight up. That's insane to ever have their mics off. Yeah. 100%. And the thing with the shit talking is what a lot of people underestimated, or maybe we did, all the stories we hear about how great of shit talkers Phil and Tegger are,
Starting point is 00:49:33 it's when they're not miced up. You're just hitting it secondhand stories of them being like, oh, you should have heard Phil out there today. He was really giving it to some guy. So when you put mics on these guys, they're going to be different. They are two of the most media trained people in the history of athletics. They're going to know if I'm going to put this mic on, I'm not going to be like, fuck you, fuck this.
Starting point is 00:49:49 There's just nothing they can do about it. That's almost subconscious. Like they've become that way. subconsciously, which that's what they're trained to do. So I agree. It's going to take away from the naturalness of it from kind of the pure candidness of it. And it did. The other thing that's come out is the PGA tour.
Starting point is 00:50:05 PGA tour limited the side betting. This, even Ryan Lavner, so I went through and read a bunch of the reactions. Ryan Lavner from Golf Channel, who's one of my favorite golf writers. He wrote the PGA tour ruined the gambling aspect by limiting the number of side bets. Went up to say the tour set up the parameters for the made-for-TV event. And that included limiting the number of side bets in all. Side action included 800 grand, which went to the players' various charities. The challenges that they were called on air were lame.
Starting point is 00:50:32 They were predictable. Closest to the pins, long drive on a par five, which is correct. I think that's all pretty much correct. That they just weren't – they were not allowed to side wager that much money. And even something as small as them calling them challenges instead of bets. Like, that's just like, all right. Well, if we're going to do it, let's do it the whole way. What is this a big break?
Starting point is 00:50:52 Yeah. Yeah. If we're going to do this, let's go all the way with it and call it bets, not challenges. That was the biggest problem. All the things that you thought was going to be awesome, they weren't allowed to take it as far or they just didn't. Right. It's the whole problem. 100%. You got to either go it the whole way or you just don't do it at all.
Starting point is 00:51:08 Yep. So that took away from it as well. And again, when it's something that's billed as like there's going to be all the side action, there's going to be all this shit talking. And then really what it was about was like it got really competitive down the stretch. And those guys don't talk to each other when they compete that much. then that just comes off as a failure in a lot of people's brains. The playoff hole, I mean a 93-yard hole off of the putting green. Insane.
Starting point is 00:51:30 In the dark. Where they messed that up was they just should have started the event earlier. Because, I mean, it was just dark. Like, when they were playing 18 even, we were, like, even the first 18th hole, we were, because I was there, and it would deal. We were like, it's just like almost too dark to play golf right now. Yeah. Yeah, why did they have to start at, I guess it was 3 o'clock here?
Starting point is 00:51:48 It was noon in Vegas, right? Right. They could have started at 10, you know, and they would have had an extra couple hours. So I think they just started it probably too late because if you started at 1 o'clock Eastern, that's who cares? That's fine. Yeah, nobody's watching anything on. Having hit a 93-yard shot, I don't care if you're Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson off a green, which is just not supposed to happen. You're not supposed to, like, know what that, like, how often has Tiger Woods?
Starting point is 00:52:09 I bet you Tiger Woods is like never hit a 93-yard shot off a green. Phil made a good point. He's like, man, we've, we never ever hit a lob wedge off of a T ever. Right. He's like, because we don't, I mean, every part three, we place 250 yards. They gave two of the best golfers of our generation, one of the best golfers of all time, to literally a shot that they don't hit in front of all these people in a match that they're going to play against two of $9 million. That is insane to have Tiger Woods hit a shot that he doesn't hit or infill over like a fake creek. For the money.
Starting point is 00:52:39 Over like a fake creek to like they've moved the pin location. In the dark with lights. Right. It should have been a put off at some point or something. I just didn't like the shot. And, like, that's the only thing that the tournament could have done in the moment. That's it. But, like, they did. They were ready.
Starting point is 00:52:53 They had lights to put on. Right. And they kind of knew it might come to something like this. So they were ready. But just, they just had to start it earlier. Like, they ran out of daylight. It is funny. And all they could come up with was a 93-yard weird-ass goofy part three.
Starting point is 00:53:03 It is funny that they had the lights. Nobody was like, why don't we just start this thing a couple hours earlier? Like, what do we just do that? Why couldn't it be a 93-yard shot from the fairway? Like, just on the other side of the creek? Why couldn't they just have like move the lights a little bit closer? That's what it should have been.
Starting point is 00:53:16 Like why did it go off the putting green? I don't know. That is absurd. It was, you're right. Hey, guys, why don't we move these lights about like 17 feet this way?
Starting point is 00:53:24 And then let's just hit them off the golf course. Frankie, you said a barstool could run this thing much better. I probably would have had them hit it off the golf course. And here's the thing. If it was a, if it was a barstool event, that would have been perfect.
Starting point is 00:53:35 Yeah. Like, of course, Barstle Adam hit a 93 yard shot off the putting green. Like we might have made him hit it out of the bar. Like, fucking, that would have been Barstool. And everybody would have loved it. But this was billed as like of an official legitimate event.
Starting point is 00:53:45 That's not an official legitimate way to end an event. Not even close. So that was like, that was crazy. Again, I actually loved that aspect because of how much all the golf hardos hated it. Yeah. It was full-blown just chaos. It was great. It was goes against everything that like traditional golf loves.
Starting point is 00:54:03 That's true. It was the exact opposite. Yeah, but it was so much so that even I hated it. I was like, this is too much. Like, I love getting around like anti-golf stuff. but this is anti-golf hardo stuff, but this is like, this is too much for me.
Starting point is 00:54:14 I'm with you. It was outrageous. I started seeing like the bottom of the green spurting up. It was like a little bit of sand underneath the green. I'm like, what even is underneath the green? Is it like concrete under there? Like, what is going on?
Starting point is 00:54:23 Is this a real golf course? Yeah. And they made, they didn't make it worse, but for Tiger Phil, they just, nobody wanted to win. It's just they kept going and going and going.
Starting point is 00:54:31 Tiger missing the green twice from 93 yards. This final put was one of the worst putts in history of sport. It wasn't even close. It was real bad. It was really. bad. I like gasped when he put that. Like when he missed that one? It wasn't even close.
Starting point is 00:54:44 Yeah. That was awful. Oh, when he left it short from above the hole? That was bad. So that just kind of like left this weird feeling. It was cool at the end when he was like, let's go play when it wasn't dark yet. It was kind of like, all right, these guys they really want to do this. And then it lost steam on like the 21st. And then they were like, all right,
Starting point is 00:55:00 like I don't want to win on that. Like, everything was just too much. Like Phil was being too nice of a guy. Everything Tiger was trying to like repay Phil. Like, all right, pick it up. I'm like, let's just fucking finish this now because I don't want to go back to the green. I don't want to go hit off that green again. And I understand the notion of you don't want it to end on somebody
Starting point is 00:55:16 missing a three or four foot put, but also if you don't want it to, if you don't want it to end on missing it, then don't miss it. You're two of the greatest players of all time. You need to be able to make a big four foot put. I got to. I got so many tweets about that good, good, situation. Oh, I bet you got. Hey, do you think they just broke the rules
Starting point is 00:55:31 of golf right there, or do you think like they're kind of like good good good there? I was getting roasted. You're the king of good good situation. And my buddies, too, that like we're in the good good situation. Do you guys think Tiger, like, Frankie, do you think Tiger is like, doesn't know golf at all? Or no, like, what do you think is going on right here? For those of you don't remember, Frankie got just roasted in his friend group for being upset about a good good. Yeah, I didn't think good good with us.
Starting point is 00:55:54 No, you didn't think that was a thing. The other thing is obviously Bleacher and Turner fucking up the payment for the whole thing. Everyone was just getting it for free. Which happened to us in Rough and Routy. Literally the exact same thing. Yeah, we were at a point where, uh, you know, there was like a free preview. So everyone had pre-bought Ruff and Routy,
Starting point is 00:56:14 and then we offer a free preview to everyone that hadn't bought it yet. So you get to see the first fight and see what you like about it. And I'm assuming, like, Turner probably had like the same idea. Like, we're going to, like, run this and, like, people are going to, like, all get jazzed up. And then, like, a bunch of people are going to buy when they see how amazing it is. And when everyone just probably tried to buy it when they saw how cool it was going to be, it just crashed, just like ours did. And you end up, I mean, we ended up fixing ours at some point.
Starting point is 00:56:36 Yeah. But they just couldn't be it. It almost gives All Business Pete more credit being like, oh, this is actually super fucking hard. Nobody enjoyed the match more than all this is. His tweets are laugh out loud funny. Oh, my God. What happened to them?
Starting point is 00:56:46 Him chirping Turner, him chirping the match about how much better ours is going to be. Meanwhile, the only reason ours is going to be better is because he's going to be able to watch that and just make improvements upon what he was probably going to do. But yeah, we will, a reminder, we're going to do the Whitney versus Riggs match next summer. We don't know exactly when yet. We will let folks know as soon as we know the venue. have been that have been floated around are awesome venues. We don't have that locked down yet either.
Starting point is 00:57:15 There have been talks since our good close personal friend, the USDA is hosting the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach next year, that we will do it shortly before the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach next year. The camera infrastructure would already be up and all that, so that would make some sense. There's talks of doing it more locally in New England so that we could have our crowd out there, all kinds of different things that are playing in,
Starting point is 00:57:35 but that is going to happen. and according to all business, Pete, it's going to be better than the Tiger versus Phil match. 66% of men lose their hair by age 35. The thing is when you start to notice hair loss, it is too late. Much easier to keep the hair you have than it replaces the hair you've lost. Our guy, Jake, no joke, use this for him. It's the best part of my day. I love it.
Starting point is 00:57:53 It's the best part of your day? Yeah, no, because when you wake up, you take the gummies, and the gummies are like what gets me out of bed every single morning. And then the hair drops feels good. It's kind of like, it's like the coffee before the coffee. Wow. You're putting in the forums. You're getting your day started.
Starting point is 00:58:09 It's a hell of an endorsement. We've got Jake and Frankie's buddy uses it, and they're both like, it's the greatest thing ever. Yeah. Well, look, why would you turn to weird solutions or do nothing when you can turn to medicine and science? A one-stop shop for hair loss, skin care, sexual wellness for men. Our listeners, that's right, you guys get a trial month of Hems for just five bucks today right now while supplies last. See website for full details. This would cost hundreds if you went to the doctor or a pharmacy.
Starting point is 00:59:02 All you have to do, go to 4Hems.com slash forplay. That's F-O-R-H-I-N. ms.com slash for play forhims.com slash for play one last thing uh or what the biggest loser was phil's cardio of the whole thing he was breathing i don't know i know you were on the course for a lot of dude he was like huffing and look as though he was gonna pass out and you can hear it because he was it was right on his mic and he was just like do you think he think that's how he is like when he's charging up you know 18 like about to win a tournament that's that's like what his bodies sounds like i think so that's insane to me he's huffing a
Starting point is 00:59:36 puffin right out of the gate you think so no i'm saying he was oh yeah he too so i went in during the right at the turn and watched the back nine on the stream because it's a made for tv event so i wanted to understand what the tv was like and you couldn't really hear exactly what they were saying oh that is actually a good question after you give the answer to that like what was the vibe on the course it was really cool it was i mean it was all vips and stuff and like celebrities and stuff so so that was the crowd but it was cool it had an old school when you look at pictures from the British Open in like 1860 and there's 120 people around the green, that was the whole vibe.
Starting point is 01:00:15 And we're going to put out, we're going to put some of this stuff in the video, but everybody's running up the fairway. Like the ropes were mobile, movable ropes. So you're like running up the fairway with them after they hit. You could get really close to them for pretty much the whole time. There's a picture that I put on my Instagram of me. I was like two feet away from Tiger when he hit one of his shots from the trees and stuff. That was kind of what the whole thing was like.
Starting point is 01:00:34 They had bars. They had like five different bars. in the golf course. That's awesome. They were open bar. So they had one on the one on the driving range and like three or four on course. So you just rolled up and got people drinking like mimoses. It was really cool.
Starting point is 01:00:46 That is cool. It was a very cool vibe on course. And it was decently loud. Like when, you know, when they made big putts and stuff, people were kind of cheering. The first hole was incredibly nerve-wracking because Phil had the $200,000 birdie bat. So the very first hole, we were rolling up with Phil and he hits it in there tight. And he's got that $200,000 putt. So we were all like kind of standing up there like, oh,
Starting point is 01:01:06 shit. So it was a cool vibe on course. Then went back and watched it and I noticed right away, like Phil, you can just feel, feel, feel, breathing in your ear. His mic was like in his throat. They would never do this, but they should have given the guys a little bit of booze out there, maybe get them all oiled up. I know. That's not a bad idea. That's like, for Whitney, I'm going to probably take a couple shots
Starting point is 01:01:26 before the video. Oh, yeah. You got to. Oh, yeah. The top tracer was horrific. I've never seen a more inaccurate top tracer in my entire life. It's really been. Like half the shots looked like they're going out of bounds. I land in the fair way. It was crazy. They did. I don't know what I, because top tracer usually is awesome. It wasn't even close.
Starting point is 01:01:41 And some of them looked like, no offense to Jake, but some of the Riggsverse videos that I put out where he draws the top tracer with just like on Microsoft paint, I think. That's honestly like what the top tracer looked like on the thing. I love on the Riggs versus like when you hit the ball and then a slow, a slow just tracer just follows where the ball went. The ball's already on the green. And all of a sudden, like, you're walking away and the tracer is halfway to its point. It's very funny.
Starting point is 01:02:07 It's great. It does the job, though. Oh, it's one of the best parts of the whole video. It's like, what kind of tracer are we going to get today? And that's how the coverage was. I mean, this was a barstool event. Every time we talk about it, it was a barstool event. But our advantage of barstool is the bar is very low.
Starting point is 01:02:21 So people are just like, all right, well, let's hope. Because we build that. We were like, hope this shit works. And Turner was like, this is going to be the best match of all time. And we're like, well, it wasn't. We bill it as like, this is going to be a shit show. Yeah. Half of the entertainment value is going to be how bad we fuck up the entertainment.
Starting point is 01:02:35 Barstle difference. And yeah, we just bill it as like, it might work, it might not. That's the bar still difference. If it does, it's a miracle. It's absolutely the bar still difference. But they applied it to this and somehow put it in the sphere of like a real legitimate production and it just wasn't. And so they just made no money off of it? I don't think they made no money. I think that they probably lost a ton of money. They were also doing ads within the- Capital One, like the sponsorship and all that was, you know, was a big point of. They lost most of the money that they were planning on making. They lost a lot of money. I think that they lost a lot of money.
Starting point is 01:03:04 I think that they lost to go. And that was like Turner's first big production after acquiring Bleacherport. That's something. People heads probably rolled after that. I mean, that's just something that you can't have. You have Tiger, you have the whole world watching Friday at the Thanksgiving, and you just like, just breaks. People's heads had to be rolling.
Starting point is 01:03:21 Yeah. There's some rolling heads. My question is, do you think Tiger got paid for that? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I do. Yeah, I think that's a no-brainer. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:28 Yeah, again. Tiger ain't showing up and doing all kinds of media stuff and, like, going to top golf afterwards if he's not getting. I don't know if you saw Rick Riley on Twitter. He was convinced that Phil and Tiger had decided to split the pot. The whole down the stretch, he thought it was so absurd that he was like, oh, well, these guys are just going to split it and then you're going to get $4.5 million. He was convinced that's what they did.
Starting point is 01:03:48 Look, I don't know. I would be surprised if they did. I don't think they did that. But, you know, they have the shell company that they set up that they created just for this. Interesting. And a lot of the profits and stuff have been funneling to the whole time. So, like, they're definitely invested. And they want this to become kind of a franchise for lack of a better term.
Starting point is 01:04:03 you know and do another one going forward another thing that i wanted to add is that it should be two on two what i would have loved to have seen in this one would be if tiger and phil like a month beforehand announced and pick their partners yeah and they played like tiger and you know patrick reed against phil and jordan speed or like that would have been awesome you know tiger would pick our boy bryson he might pick bryson he could pick j t for the rider cup i don't know man i think that they're like that imagine them talking science how insane that would be obsessed with that. Imagine Bryson, like, making tigers step away from a ball and being like, well,
Starting point is 01:04:38 you got to think about this, you know, triangular latitude of where you are to the pin right now, Tiger. And Tiger's like, you're right. You know what I'm struggling with right now? I can't think of enough science words to even, like, come up with a funny, like, sentence. No, you can't. That's how bad. There's so far advanced on science.
Starting point is 01:04:54 I was, like, trying to think of words. I came up with triangular latitude. You're not even in the same stratosphere as their science talk. I can't even come up with something that they mean. say you're so dumb when it comes to science you're incapable of making a funny science when it comes to science sometimes i can't even speak yeah that's true that you get it's two on two two would be better two on two would be really cool you'd have twice as many characters to fill twice as much time with their chatter twice as many caddies it'd just be there'd be the dynamic that would be
Starting point is 01:05:20 relatable to everybody at home because that's what they play on saturday and sunday with their buddies they play it two on two ds also that's what it will be in my opinion going forward tiger and phil i think want this to become a bigger thing that they can do kind of forever whether they team up and go against two younger guns, whether they pick a partner, whatever they do, I think that's probably going to be the better way to do it going forward. The other thing, the last thing we'll say about the match is, like, in order for it to be successful, you have to have Tiger, because Tiger's the only name that's big enough to draw a crowd.
Starting point is 01:05:48 However, it's a bit of a catch-22, because Tiger's not that interesting in the middle of competition, because he's even said it afterwards. He's like, I got caught up in the heat of the competition, not in, like, shit-talking Phil. So it's always going to be a catch-22. Yeah, and that's where I think, I thought the idea that you said where you have Barclay on the course or somebody like Pat Perez to got to go with those guys. Right. Like, Shane Bacon's there. He's a professional. He's going to get like professional interviews.
Starting point is 01:06:13 But if you have guys like Barkin, maybe that's what you do. You do two on two and you do a guy like Tiger and Barkley versus Phil and some other shit talker. And that's how you get that shit going. Yes. Right. Yeah. I agree. So there's definitely ways to improve it. I think we are all in agreement that I would buy it again. Hopefully understanding that like they're going to improve. it. The first time that you do anything, it's not going to be the best iteration of it.
Starting point is 01:06:34 We know that from Rough and Rowdies, from doing podcasts, from doing videos, from having shows that got canceled. It didn't work out. All kinds of stuff. Everybody knows that. It's better the second, third, fifth time you do it all that. So those are our thoughts on the match. It wasn't great.
Starting point is 01:06:48 It wasn't perfect. But we watched it, and I would probably watch it again. Wolf Creek, I can talk about Wolf Creek. That golf course, I posted a bunch of photos of it. Those were like the most traction they've ever gotten on golf course photos. was Wolf Creek. I think 90% of people were like meat. They didn't think it was real.
Starting point is 01:07:05 I didn't think the course was real until I... No, yeah, because the video game does make it look like it. There's no way a golf course can be that green in the middle of the desert. It's so fucking absurd the juxtaposition in the video game. They're like, oh, this just isn't real. Yep. And I saw a photo of it posted by our boy John Cavalier at Link's Gems on Instagram, like a week before we went out to Vegas. And I was like, holy shit, it's real.
Starting point is 01:07:27 Like, oh my God. Because I played it probably a hundred times on Tiger. in Rory. It's one of the courses in the Rory game, too, that shitty game, Rory. It's one of the courses in there, too. So I knew it. It was crazy being there because I knew all the holes. I saw all the holes in person. It was like, I know this hole. And, too, the course was awesome. It was so sick. The views were off the charts. The way that it played was like Mickey Mouse Golf. I'm talking, you'd like hook one into the hook one left. It would hit off a mountain and, like, come around in a giant circle and funnel to like 10 feet. It was crazy, town. It was so fun. No joke. It's an hour and 15 minutes away from Las Vegas. Type in Wolf Creek. Go out there and play it. If next time I go to Vegas, it's a must play for me.
Starting point is 01:08:08 I mean, a lot of the courses I've played there are like 30 minutes away anyways. So if you just drive an extra 45 minutes. Public? Public. You can just book a tea time. Go play. How much was it? I think it's like a...
Starting point is 01:08:18 It depends. It's like off peak. It's like 80-something. Peak season. It's in the low 100s, I believe. It's nothing. It's not bad at all. That golf course.
Starting point is 01:08:26 Dude, the course was awesome. It was as different of a golf course. is I've ever played in my entire life. Like, almost every course I've ever played has, like, kind of the same fundamental characteristics. This was a completely... Was it like pure? Were the greens, like awesome?
Starting point is 01:08:40 Greens were great. It was just like we were playing golf on the fucking moon. It was like... Gravity didn't exist, man. It was like... What a time? It was the air's thin because you're kind of elevated. The bunker's, like, orange, too?
Starting point is 01:08:50 Like that, like... Oh, yeah, they're like desert rocking orange and shit. The sun's, like, setting, and we're on these giant, like, these giant elevations. You almost die on every drive. between every green to tea, you almost die. Like if you're not paying attention, you'll just die. You'll drive off a cliff.
Starting point is 01:09:08 Was there no one on that course when you played? Who was Thanksgiving? Oh, we literally played at 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving. And you guys were the only guys on the golf course? You know, there are a handful of other groups in front of us, but they closed the pro shop at like 10.30. So we teed off at like 10, 10.15. What was the vibe like in Vegas on Thanksgiving?
Starting point is 01:09:23 Oh, yeah. Buzing. Really? Families and shit everywhere. Families. People love that. It's just, we thought there was going to. We thought it was only going to be like mutant freaks in Vegas because it's Thanksgiving.
Starting point is 01:09:34 Yes. There's people rolling out in strollers and it was insanity. That actually breaks my heart a little bit. I wanted it to be mutants and freaks. I guess people do. I guess it's like some people probably look at the buffet. We were, they were with us at the buffet on Thanksgiving. There was a family at the buffet at Thanksgiving.
Starting point is 01:09:50 Oh, yeah. And they were like a real family. Real families. I mean, you know, they're a little weirds, Vegas, but like everybody's all weird. I don't know. We were planning to do it like a, we were going to do a rigs man on the street like what kind of freaks are it was just normal people like tumbleweed to go across the street like and you just out there like uh it looks like the end of the earth buddy you had the you almost got
Starting point is 01:10:08 you almost drowned in the human traffic walking through mjian oh my god yep the strip was a buzz people must just look at it like it's not thanksgiving it's just tiger was in town maybe that might have been it dude they had a boxing ring in the middle of mgm with the tiger fill stuff yeah that's great because of the tiger phil stuff were they also having a boxing match at the mgm No, it was the Bob Fox, Octagon Bob, our MMA guy. He texted me. It was like, they do that for all the big fights. And this was like their big fight.
Starting point is 01:10:37 It was the Tiger Phil fight. Love it. So it was cool. But Wolf Creek, get out to Wolf Creek. It was outrageous how cool the course is. It looked like you played pretty well, too. We're going to put the Riggsverse out on Wednesday. It's a great one.
Starting point is 01:10:49 It's probably the coolest one we've done. The footage is insane. We did a ton of drone work because we were the only people on the course. The hole that we filmed on is this really, really cool part. super elevated T, the 12th hole. And then, yeah, I was doing the updates on my Instagram, and I went 4336. Jesus.
Starting point is 01:11:06 Four, and it was the most electrifying, you know, guy playing golf by himself. Yeah. Back nine I've ever seen. And Jake, Jake played on the front nine, and he was losing so many balls. And he was like, man, this, how about I just, what if I just filmed you on the back night?
Starting point is 01:11:21 I was like, all right. So he just filmed every shot. And it got dicey. I had to break. Man, what if I just stopped playing and just film you? I like, I like, that cop. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:28 And I was like, so poorly. I'm just going to like stop and then I'll just film you. And then everybody was happier. He's like smiling because he loves to film shit. And the views were insane. So it's like here we are just playing. I had like a personal videographer.
Starting point is 01:11:39 Yeah. Filming all my shots. It was crazy. I had, um, so the overrunner I was going to break 80 playing the course for the first time. And it was like, it's like 6,400 yards of the blues,
Starting point is 01:11:50 but the guys like it plays 6,900 because of all the crazy elevation and all these different like, nice. Oh, yeah. You like that? That's what I was waiting for. So it was wild. It was absolutely wild. The course was awesome.
Starting point is 01:12:00 I recommend if you ever go out to Vegas, go play Wolf Creek. It's like an hour and 15 minutes away. But yeah, this show, we had Tiger Woods' voice on this show. It's pretty fucking good. Incredible. It's Cyber Monday. We've got the Riggs Verso be coming out on Wednesday. We've got, if you're listening to the show, Tuesday in the morning, the full Tiger video,
Starting point is 01:12:15 will be out later in the day. So check that out. It's been a big couple weeks ago. We had Bryson on. It's been a huge off season. Tiger on for a couple minutes. Yeah, it's the off season. On a heater.
Starting point is 01:12:25 Three minutes with Tiger that felt like three hours. It's insane. Oh, it was crazy. All right, we'll be back next Monday. Any holidays between now and then? Feels like we get a million holidays. Like Hanukkah's coming, I think? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:12:35 Hanukkah starts. Jake's shaking his head, yes. Jake's shaking his head, nodding his head, I suppose. Yeah, nod in his head. So, yeah, happy Hanukkah. Okay. Okay. We'll be back on Monday.
Starting point is 01:12:43 Hit it hard. Hit it hard.
