Starting point is 00:00:28 This is Free With Ads, the podcast that asks the question, why pay Netflix nine bucks a month for a bunch of erotic horror movies when you can go online for free and watch an erotic horror movie so disturbing? You'll never want to have sex again if you're a total whittal baby Snowflake. I'm Jordan Morris. And I'm Emily Fliving. Today's movie is Hellraiser, the extreme horror classic that is the origin of the popular phrase, Dick so good you'd even fuck his skeleton. With us, as always, is the super producer, the he freak, Matt Lee, hitting us with those drops that will tear your soul apart.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Does it still hurt? Oh, only when I drink. Hey, everyone. That is my favorite line from the movie. And what's up? Hey. Happy Halloween. Hey, happy Halloween.
Starting point is 00:01:24 It is October. We're doing spooky movies all month. and we're talking about a gosh darn classic today. Hellraiser, which is, as of this recording, streaming free with ads. But before we talk about the movie, we're going to get to know one of our hosts in our laziest segment. Talk to host. Oh, yeah, that's right. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Let's do it. Talk to host. Emily, we have something we want to talk to you about today. This is kind of a cool activity experience excursion you've done recently. I don't know if you've talked about it to Matt. I have not heard the details because as a podcaster, we must save this all for content. That's right.
Starting point is 00:02:04 When you talk to your friends, it must be recorded for others to hear. Monetize. Monetize friendship. That's what we're here to do. That's what we're here to do. You have to grind. The movies are free, but our friendship is not.
Starting point is 00:02:18 No, no, no. Maximumfund.org slash join. Anyway, so Emily, you were on a vacay for a little while. at something called, and let me know if I'm getting any of this wrong. Sure, sure. It is called Wasteland, and it is a kind of a burning man-like camping art festival.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Yes. It is out in the desert. It's kind of apocalypse themed. I just, I want to hear about it. I know you did it, and I have not heard any details. So what was your experience at this thing?
Starting point is 00:02:53 I went with this. tribe. Well, I went with my boyfriend who was part of a tribe. Okay. And this is, okay, let me just start from the beginning. There's tribes. There's tribes. Okay. It is like apocalyptic themed in like the Mad Max type. So they also, the same people organize another one called Neotropolis that happens. This is all in the Mojave Desert. Right. And so they have like a kind of blade runner, um, ask post-apocalyptic thing. So different, different flavors. There's different festivals depending on your nerds. Different types of nerds. It is kind of like if Burning Man was Comic-Con and the Renaissance
Starting point is 00:03:35 Fair like all together. Damn, that sounds fucky as hell. It's fun as hell. And so it's in the desert. You're sleeping in tents in the desert. That's pretty much what you're doing. And yes, I had a nervous breakdown the first night because I didn't realize how tiny the tent was that I was going to be sleeping in.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Yeah. And but. And you like to display? You like to split out. Well, yeah, I'd like to have, be able to sit up. Yeah, right. It's nice to sit up in a tent. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Yeah. Read a book. Trying to help. Those are things people say at me. Other people might like to do in the tents. Yeah, yeah. So it's, he's in a tribe called the Dukes of the Nuke, which so there's different groups that have been there, some since the very beginning.
Starting point is 00:04:26 I guess this has been around for 16. years. Okay. And his tribe has been around for a decade and or something like that. And it's about 30 people and all of the tribes are in the main strip. So there's like a main strip of tribes and they provide entertainment. They have bars. They have food sometimes. And it's all trade. So it's like burning man. Yeah. There's no money. You know, everything is communal. And you're, but you're, you know, you're, you're paying to get in. But after that, you know, everything is provided by the other. The kindness of strangers. The kindness of strangers.
Starting point is 00:05:01 It's true. But you do want to bring your own snacks and stuff. Oh, sure. Which I brought three cans of easy cheese and people loved it. Oh, no. Because I had a lot of flour tortillas with beef jerky and easy cheese on it. That was a lot of my diet while I was there. Sounds good.
Starting point is 00:05:18 That's a balanced meal. If you could if you could sprinkle a couple of raisins on top of that. Oh, yeah. I mean, if you don't want to poop the whole time you're there, that's the stuff you need. I like that. Get nice and back back up. You are in porta potties.
Starting point is 00:05:31 That is what you're dealing with. Sure. But we had our own portopati for the tribe, which was nice. And there was like a little key and a padlock on it. But yeah, and then you dress themed. You have to. Like it is a requirement, especially if you're in a tribe or whatever. I stayed with them on their little plot of land.
Starting point is 00:05:50 And so they were kind of military themed in a while, hence the nuke kind of thing. So it's a lot of camo. It was like a lot of, you know, torpedo-looking things and stuff. And everybody was just so wonderful. That whole group of people, everybody there is just so nice. And you're having a good time. I brought a bunch of stuff to trade. I brought this unopened butt plug that I got as a prize for something.
Starting point is 00:06:19 It was like a battery-powered butt plug with a remote. You can get a ton of beef jerky for one of those. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I got a pair of boots for that. Nice. Okay. Boots for book plus. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:06:31 I had tons of cool stuff. Like I brought some jewelry related things. And then most of the like, you know, money is or like the trading money is like caps, like bottle caps. So it's also very fallout themed too. Right. That's right. So fallout. Mad Max kind of thing.
Starting point is 00:06:48 But boy, people bring tanks. There's like military tanks going up and down. Are the tanks driving? Are they? Yes. They're driving. Okay. They're driving the tanks?
Starting point is 00:06:58 Actual tanks or like cars dressed up like no? No, actual military tanks. How you get a tank? America is so fucked where you're like, no, no, you can just get a tank. Well, I think that a lot of people. Do they just drive it there on the freeway? On the freeway, yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:14 But there's a lot of old, funky cars. Like people, it's like a parade all day. So there's people who have, like, tricked out, like, golf carts or tricked out little, like, motorcycles like four wheelers and stuff but they have old cars that have fake like torpedo things on the top of it it's a big burning man thing it's really cool and there's a lot of guns like and they're all like pretend guns um okay okay or they're not loaded or whatever and after dark you're not allowed to brandish any prop guns i can imagine but there's a lot of pretending that you are going to get in a gunfight or you're gonna like um go to it i went
Starting point is 00:07:55 to a saloon with a few of the Dukes because they were requested to protect this other leader, a leader from another tribe. Who are the Dukes? The Dukes of the Nukes. That's the tribe. Yeah. So they are kind of like they're kind of for hire or something. Like, you know.
Starting point is 00:08:14 So I showed up with a little gun and I was like, so what do we do with these? And it's like, you just pointed at him and go get out of here. And then that's it. I love this. And I'm like, okay. So it was, would you call it larping? Is it like you're in character, you're improvbing? There's a lot of lore, a lot of like, and there's like a newspaper print, like there's a
Starting point is 00:08:37 that puts out a newspaper every day and people like write articles for it. Oh God. And then all of the tribes. Imagine having to do the fucking larp as a journalist. I would be fucking kill myself. They have the newspaper print and you go there every day and you buy a newspaper. You read post-apocalyptic Dilbert. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Yes. Yes. That's literally it. But there's so many cool events. There's like bands that play. There's saloons. So yeah. At night is it like...
Starting point is 00:09:07 At night is it like raves and concerts and stuff like that? Kind of. There's like a few bands that play on the main stage every night. So there's like the main strip of tribes, like of the big tribes. But there's little tribes all throughout the like that are not on the main stage. strip. It's a pretty large, like, area. But, yeah, the bands are playing. It's, like, a lot of kind of dance music or metal or stuff like that. And I guess these are bands that have been playing, like, every year for a long, long time. And it's not, like, maybe not, like, maybe more bands
Starting point is 00:09:39 composed of people who go there, not, like, you know, like big bands. This is all, like, very independently, like, right. Done. Like, all the tribes pay to get in. And then they pay to provide all of the entertainment and stuff. So they're basically doing a service for it. Nobody's really paid to be there except for medical, like people and stuff like that. But I want to go back again. But they put up the huge set, the huge, like, little city that the Duke's the New had and everybody else in their different, like different tribes had different sets that
Starting point is 00:10:16 were like really ornate and crazy and cool. but I was there for take down day. Like if you stay with a tribe, you have to help. Right. Either put up, take down, or both. Nine hours in 99 degree heat in the Mojave Desert. I was like, oh my God, I'm not, I don't know if I'm built for this. They put me on like.
Starting point is 00:10:38 You're full of the turd you haven't released in a week. And I made sure to not drink the night before the final day as much. But I was like, oh my God. And when we left, I like, I went to a bathroom at a restaurant and my face, I sent you guys text of my face. I was like cake. I was like, oh my God. I'm just caked in fucking dirt.
Starting point is 00:11:00 And there was a windstorm that like came and blew a bunch of shit at us. And I had to like duck and shit. It was like an adventure. Let me tell you. But I want to go back. I want to go back. Did you create like a character for yourself with backstory and lore and stuff like that? I created a character for myself.
Starting point is 00:11:17 You have to have a. a tribe name if you're hanging out in a tribe. And you were? Well, I was just phlegm and then I was dubbed easy cheese by the end of it. That's good. I like that. So everybody was like, easy cheese. We need you to pick up.
Starting point is 00:11:33 We've got a ton of zip ties that are on the ground. You got to pick up all the zip ties. Did you have a catchphrase? Like, don't worry. I'm a whiz at that. It ain't easy being cheesy. You have to say in the Duke Nucum voice. No, not yet.
Starting point is 00:11:48 Cheese, baby. Don't just leave me alone. Leave me Prove alone. Ooh, swinging a Swiss. Swinging a Swiss. Oh, my God. But I want to go back and I do want to have lore. I had a lot.
Starting point is 00:12:06 I made costumes. So I've like made, I had a bunch of vintage like boosiers that I hand dyed. A lot of like army green like kind of colors. and stuff like that. And I had a little like military hat, you know, like the U.S.O girls wear the kind of pointy one. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I wore that one almost every day.
Starting point is 00:12:29 And then I had some like goggle sunglasses and I just wore my timberland hiking boots all the time. But and I did have like a way to bathe. I had this like Ebenezer Scrooge nightgown that I would wear with nothing underneath. And then I would get, I had these oil abelowlay. soap towels that you add water to and then you like froth it up and then i'm just like pouring fucking water on me bottled water on you yeah that's what i that's what i did and uh but i would wake up and have curlers in my hair because i'm vain and i sleep in curlers and i'd have my um my evanizer scrooge nightgown and everyone was like you're going to throw a flip flop at me or
Starting point is 00:13:10 something right um but yeah it was it was a blast but the first night i panicked because I didn't realize how hard it was actually going to be. But I stayed for five nights. And it's amazing. It was great. The last day was truly hard. But now that I know what to expect, I feel like next year I can go in. I know how to take down the tents or support other people with taking down stuff now.
Starting point is 00:13:38 Yeah. So I'm like, okay, it won't be as much as a shock of a shock if I go again. Yeah. But I want to go again. And I really like those people. They're wonderful people. The other names people had were bullet, blue, whiplash. My boyfriends, what was it?
Starting point is 00:13:58 There was a girl named Dick Punch. I really liked her. But I can't remember my boyfriend's tribe name. It'll come back to me because it was so weird. But it was something like Thrust Ador or something. I can't remember what it was. Thrust Adore is solid. That being the answer
Starting point is 00:14:16 Thrustador But it was great And there were some mythical beasts there And a couple of freebies were there Oh I love that Came up to me and they were like We love free with ads and stuff I love that
Starting point is 00:14:28 I know And I have presents for you guys That I traded for at the trading posts There were a bunch of cool trading posts So I picked up a couple little things for you guys But next time we're in person I'll give them to you And we can talk about it
Starting point is 00:14:41 I love it Well yeah Speaking of Outrageous outfits. Boy, this movie, Hellraiser, it sure has a lot of them. Segways. We love those. Such a good segue.
Starting point is 00:14:53 Hey, Hellraiser, we're very excited to talk about it. But before we do, we want to let you know that this movie features sexual assault and self-harm. If those aren't things you want to hear us talk about, we're going to play some music and give you a chance to find another episode. Hey, we're back. This is Free With Ads. We are going to talk about the original 1987 Hellraiser. which I think none of us had ever seen, right? Never.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Never. Never. Okay, so to me, this movie is, it's that thing we've talked about a lot on this show, where it was a box that scared me at Blockbuster Video. Seeing Pinhead, I feel like I was scared of him. I always considered this movie to just be like fucked up next level. You kind of heard stories about it.
Starting point is 00:15:49 And I've always just kind of been afraid of it. And this was like a great chance to sit down and actually. watch what happens, watch and see what happens in this movie, which I, you know, I had no idea. I knew there was this kind of BDSM thing to it, but I was like, you know,
Starting point is 00:16:07 but I always knew it looked like the scariest movie in existence. Like, because Freddie Kruger, kind of funny guy. Jason, who gives a shit? And like Michael Myers, I don't care either. This looked like true horror to me. Like when it comes to a character
Starting point is 00:16:24 that's going to scare the shit out of you. I've avoided it. I never wanted to watch it. I did not want to watch it this time. But I'm so glad I did. Yeah. This was new for me in almost every way. All I knew about this movie was Pinhead,
Starting point is 00:16:39 which I assume is not his name. I don't know. Yeah. We can talk about that later. It's kind of interesting. Yeah, because we all know the character Pinhead, which you kind of lump in with Freddie and Jason and Chuckie and all those famous monsters.
Starting point is 00:16:52 I assumed the movie. was essentially sort of a body horror, um, art house flick. And so I avoided seeing it not because I was scared, but because it seems super boring. Like I just, I, well, because from what I had seen of it, it was short clips of very gory, uh, yeah, like very gory scenes and people sound talking like demons and I was like I just don't have any interest in something that looks like it doesn't have a plot and I will say I was pleasantly surprised that there was a plot to this movie and it's a weird bar to have but for some reason I had gotten in my head that this was just some sort of yeah an art house plotless like trudge through blood and it's not it's yeah I know it's kind of like
Starting point is 00:17:43 pinhead is like a supporting character who pops up at the end he's so like associated with the movie when this movie is just basically a long tales from the crypt episode. Yes. Where Pinhead, you know, makes a little appearance in the third act. Well, makes an entrance. It's like, yeah, yeah. I'd say that it's like one of those things where the thing you're waiting
Starting point is 00:18:03 for really, you anticipate it. And then when it happens, you're like, holy shit. Bo boom. This is fucking rad. I will see, is it this a comic book also, Jordan? So this started out as a novel. And there have been comic adaptations. and actually there's a lot of new Hellraiser stuff out this year. There's a video game that just came out.
Starting point is 00:18:24 Oh my God. And there's new comics about each of the Ceno Bites. I've read two of them actually. They're by Sarah Galy and Teeny Howard, who are two of my favorite writers. Just total pervo, sickos, and the exact people to do this. So I was really excited. After I watched this yesterday, I like ran to the comic store and got their comics and read it. So I have a little more info.
Starting point is 00:18:46 But yeah, this is like a big. universe. There's 10 movies in a reboot. I think there's more. I think I've heard there's 18 movies is weird. And I've heard the 17th one is good. Or there's like one weird one that's like really good. But yeah, I heard also that, you know, they created like a newer one in the 2020s. I can't remember. I didn't see it or anything. This is the only one I've ever seen. But there was supposed to be a prequel about the creation of like the world of the Cinnabites or like, the backstory to them, there was going to be some movie like that. And there's like drawings you could look at online.
Starting point is 00:19:25 And I feel like there might be a comic book about that. But that's a movie I would love to see. According to Wikipedia, 11 movies in the franchise. Oh, okay. There's some ancillary TV stuff for specials or something. There'll be a Netflix anthology. Of course. There sure will.
Starting point is 00:19:40 There sure will. But yeah, let's actually talk about Hellraiser. It starts out with a man. in a foreign country, you know, one of those ones without white people where everything's kind of scary and magical, you know, those countries. Yeah, generic Middle Eastern bar somewhere. Yes, a bizarre when you buy bad things. It's a bar across the street from the bar that Indiana Jones is in.
Starting point is 00:20:08 Straight up. Right, yeah. I feel like he was at the most-sizedly canteena a little bit, too, where it felt like, you know, from Star Wars, where he's just, like, you might have gotten his arm chopped off by a lightsaber at some point. Yeah, he's just about to go over and hear, oh, God, the modal nodes. Is that the band from Star Wars? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:33 They had a name. I didn't know they had a name. Everything has a name in Star Wars. I love that it's just canteen a band, you know. No, everything has a name. It's true. Wow. I was kind of wondering if this movie was another one of those, like, Hasbro movies, like,
Starting point is 00:20:46 We want to make a Rubik's Cube movie. But then they went, ah, fuck that. Let's make a BDSM fuck Cube movie. Yeah, maybe like they hired Clive Barker to write a Rubik's Cube movie. He turned this in. And he's like,
Starting point is 00:20:59 we cannot put our name on this. He's like, fine, I'll just make up my own cube. I can make up my own cube. Max Rebo and the modal nodes. There we go. That's the name of the band. Cute. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:21:13 So, yes, a man is buying a box. from a strange non-American guy. He's buying this box. We see a close up of him. Get the box. He has very dirty fingernails. This is the most disgusting shot in the entire movie. That was me during Wasteland for sure.
Starting point is 00:21:30 My fingernails were crazy. You could probably get some little puzzle boxes at that thing, huh? There's probably some haunted puzzle boxes on the same. It's my hell in a box. All right, go ahead. Yeah, like dick in the box? Yeah, yeah, you got it. Anyway, thank you.
Starting point is 00:21:46 I get things. I know pop culture. I love this stuff. So we see that man. His name is Frank. We'll learn that later. He is shirtless and meditating around some candles. He's got the box.
Starting point is 00:21:58 And then a bunch of hooks get in him. Ah, he gets hooked from various angles. He's so sweaty figuring out how to open this cube. It reminded me of trying to figure out how many apples Johnny has and an SAT question. Sure, yeah. I was struggling. I'm really glad that I would never be If Pennhead is on a train going
Starting point is 00:22:20 75 miles an hour that leaves from St. Louis at 3 p.m. What time will it get to hell? I clearly would never have the GPA necessary to like become a Satanus and open a hell portal. Open a hell box so I'm just going to have to be a United Methodist. That's the kind of GPA I got.
Starting point is 00:22:40 So he's going through this whole big thing to figure out the box. He's meditating. He lit candles. And later on, in the movie, the teenage daughter just solves it in bed. A bunch of times. You didn't have to light the candles. You didn't have to do this big ceremony. She did Odyssey of the Mind as a kid or whatever.
Starting point is 00:22:58 She was one of those gifted in cute. She was in Mensa. Yeah, exactly. So young Gina Davis. So he's got a bunch of hooks in him and he is warped to the strange dimension featuring the synobytes. It sounds like what the Kroger brand
Starting point is 00:23:18 of generic cinnamon toast crunch should be. Yeah, yeah. No, it does sound like it sounds delicious. It does sound good. It sounds like Cinebon and I was like,
Starting point is 00:23:27 oh, these guys are, they're definitely glazed looking but they're not yummy looking, you know? Yeah. Yeah, when I'm ever at the, I'm at the airport, I treat myself to a little Cinnabyte.
Starting point is 00:23:37 A Cine bite, yeah. I know it has 1,600 calories, but I don't care. I've been good. Listen, those don't count. Everyone deserves to have at least like three synobons in a year. I agree. Like they're so, it's, and especially when they put the cinnabon next to the Abercrombie, I love those.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Those two smells converging is like, I don't know, gives me something happy going on there. That's right. So we meet the centibites. We have pinhead, of course. His head is filled with pins. We have a lady cinnabite. or a Cinebite whose like throat has been like
Starting point is 00:24:18 splayed open. Oh yeah. That was a lady. She's cool. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So I think in the script she is just known as female Cinebite. Cool. And by the way, I'm just so glad that my daughter can watch a Hellraiser movie and see a Cinebite who looks like her. She feels represented.
Starting point is 00:24:37 Representation matters, people. That's right. That's right. I think none of these characters have names in the script, But in the comic, she's Mother Superior. Cool. Because she's wearing like a nun kind of costume. Yeah, she's kind of got a, you know, there's a lot of religious imagery in this.
Starting point is 00:24:53 Pinhead is just known as the priest in the comic. I love that. Yeah. And then the other ones are, I don't know, their names, they're weirdos. There's one with like little. Big chunky thumb guy with sunglasses. Yeah, wearing sunglasses inside.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Pretty cool customer. Yeah. He looks like a cop. He looks like every cop. He's a real chode too. He's a real thick, short. guy. He's a real chode of a monster. Future's so bright. I gotta rip your skin off.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Yes. That's the expression. That's the old expression. And then you got a guy with like kind of chattering teeth that they obviously stole the design for the Resident Evil villain Nemesis. That's a real, this is a real one-to-one if you've ever played that game. I'm like, oh, they just exactly stole this guy. Although in Resident Evil he has a rocket launcher, so that's cooler, I guess. Yeah, that's true. Wait, which came first? The Resident Evil game, or how Razor. Hellser.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Yeah. Yeah. So Resident Evil stole it. Yeah. A lot of lifted stuff for those games. Yeah. The influences are very clear. I was like, I just saw the Resident Evil movie in theaters, which was the scariest
Starting point is 00:26:00 movie I've ever seen. And I kept telling myself that as I was watching Hellraiser, like, you could fucking do this. Like, you could do this because you watched Resident Evil. You already watched a scary movie. Yeah, I watched the scary movie in theaters, had to a pop. to the people sitting next to me. Because I screamed so loud throughout it.
Starting point is 00:26:20 I love that. I had to hold my knees up on the chair and hug my knees. I was so fucking scared. It was so good. Can I just say, could it use Mealy Jovovich. Regarding the Cinebites, I will say that like the movie,
Starting point is 00:26:36 it makes it pretty apparent, at least when I was watching it, why this movie was so iconic, because, I have known nothing about the plot of this movie so far as we're watching it. But seeing the character design and seeing the practical effects, I was like, oh, I get why this movie made such an impact, why it was, I mean, I don't know if it was a hit or not, but it certainly was, I mean, I knew what it was.
Starting point is 00:27:03 So it's just so cool. Everyone looks fucking great. The makeup is incredible in this movie. So, yeah, it's pretty sick. Yeah, and it's one of those things where you just see the design of that character And you're like, I want to know everything about that Yes, I like, you're just obsessed with it
Starting point is 00:27:20 Because the design is so good The cop-looking one, his name is Butterball, by the way Butterball, okay Yeah Yeah So yeah, these guys, the Cinnabites, they look great, Fucking Dream Blunt rotation And so then, so yeah, so that's the little
Starting point is 00:27:40 That's the like prologue. By the way, this isn't the first two minutes of the movie. This movie fucking starts. This movie just like, we're off. It's a movie. And then we kind of go into the main plot of the movie. We got this kind of boring yuppie couple. They are moving back into a house where the man of the couple, Larry, his brother used to live with like their mom.
Starting point is 00:28:06 His brother Frank, who will learn is the guy from the prologue. He had a lot of weird stuff. a bunch of kind of religious things in the house, a lot of altars. He like sleeps in the attic with, um, we, we learn that Frank,
Starting point is 00:28:20 Frank is a sec, he's a sex guy. He loves it. Can't get enough jizzing this guy. Frank's right. He's got a bunch of pictures of himself having sex with, I think maybe they're supposed to be prostitutes. I'm not exactly sure.
Starting point is 00:28:33 He's having sex with, just various women. Various women in masks and stuff. And, uh, he has also a little like, pewter figure of, like a couple having sex.
Starting point is 00:28:43 Yeah, and that's how he knows it was Frank's. Because he comes in, he's like squatters and then picks up the, like, the statuette of people 69ing. Yeah, it's like, Frank. It's like, Frank. He's like, he immediately knows it's his fucky brother, Frank. You kids today with your internets and your porn hubs. In the 80s, we had the jacket to little figurines.
Starting point is 00:29:06 You got in a garage sale. You had to come to Chachiskees. You had to come to souvenirs You got at the boardwalk That's right It was either that or fuck a bag of taffy Instead of a license plate with your name on it It said tits
Starting point is 00:29:23 And you just jerked off to that Thinking about what you thought tits might look like Those were the days Those were the days Those were the days Yeah this house is also gorgeous From the outside But you only see like
Starting point is 00:29:39 three rooms in this house the whole time. And I'm like, this house seems small on the inside. It's like dining room, kitchen, and then upstairs room. Or that's upstairs, right? It's the attic. Well, there's two rooms in their attic. I'm like, this plays rules. Like, but everything else, no idea.
Starting point is 00:29:57 Yeah. Yeah. So they, so this kind of yuppie couple, they're moving back in and they have like a daughter who's off at college and they're kind of trying to get her to come visit. And like while they're cleaning out this house and they're finding like, porn and like maggots the kitchen's full of fucking maggots they're like simultaneously on the phone with her going like come visit you'll love the place yeah yeah and she's which i don't maggots right you yeah she keeps saying with vermin she keeps saying no and uh i was just like wow good instincts
Starting point is 00:30:29 woman yeah i don't think that this is her real mother which i wrote down it's her stepmother it's her step i wrote down tymu alice and janey but i don't think she's timu i think she's timu i she's just evil hot like twin yeah yeah because i love this fucking lady 80's power 80's power lady yeah god i would die to play that part that would yeah they say that she's her stepmom and that's kind of why later you're a little a little more worried that she's going to like kill the girl yeah anyway so yeah so they're moving in a bunch of there's some uh there's some movers coming in they're kind of being scummy to the wife and the daughter um the mover is just like ask for beers and they bring them to the guys.
Starting point is 00:31:13 They're like trying to get, there's a little physical comedy. They're trying to get a couch up the stairs. If friends would have been invented, they would have said pivot and it would have gotten a laugh. But friends haven't been invented. Well, also, I was like, you hired the movers.
Starting point is 00:31:26 Wouldn't, if you got injured while assisting movers, wouldn't that be a whole like thing? I just don't, I don't, I do hire movers now, Rich, I know.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Wow. Because I'm clumsy and I'm afraid I will hurt myself. You're also afraid of accidentally cutting your hand open and then the blood goes on the ground and it feeds Frank and he becomes a little bit more. Yes. And then I'm going to have to kill a bunch of other guys to heal him. And it's a whole thing. But I was like, why is this old man helping the movers? They can figure it out.
Starting point is 00:31:56 Dude, fuck off. It's, yeah, it all in service of the scene in which he rips his hand open on a nail sticking out. Yeah, I hate got hurt by a nail stuff in movies. Me too. A nail, that's bad. Me too. I was the first thing I thought of was Daniel Stern in, what was it? Yeah, Home Alone Part 1 where he steps on the nail.
Starting point is 00:32:17 You see it like go in, you're just like, ugh. Have you guys ever stepped on a nail? Quiet place where she steps on the nail but can't scream because the quiet place monsters are outside. I don't like that. I don't like that. My sister stepped on a nail when we were out, like, camping. And it was like this whole, I can't, because the bottom of your feet tickles, too. It's like super sensitive.
Starting point is 00:32:38 So like getting stitches in the bottom of your foot or like getting at the like you know Pain killer injected in the body No fuck no I don't want it so Larry cuts open his hand while he's while before this happens We see we see his wife stepmom have all of these elaborate visions of her having sex with Frank the brother Like seeing all of his like porno stuff awakens this in her and maybe a little unclear if this is like an affair she had
Starting point is 00:33:10 or if it's just her fantasy. I think they actually had an affair, but it was a little bit. Yeah, I think it was, it was pretty clear. She was having flashbacks to a time when he showed up and it was raining
Starting point is 00:33:22 and he was like, hey, let me get in your house. I love, by the way, that it's like this, these brothers, one is just like, hi, my name is Greg or whatever. Larry, he's Larry.
Starting point is 00:33:32 Hey, I'm Larry. How you doing it? And then one is just like, hey, what's going on? Fuck, oh, My name is fucking Frank. My name's Frank. That basically means dick.
Starting point is 00:33:42 My name is dick. I'm here to finger bang your stepmom. They had another brother named Curley or something. Yeah. Hey, a wise guy. And they all tried to move the couch. It was pretty funny. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Old rich lady comes in. What's going on? Yeah, the three cintabites. Oh, man. They should do a thing where the cennabytes are the three stooges. Hurley as butterball, come on, man. Yeah. But like jabbing each other with hooks and ripping each other's skin off.
Starting point is 00:34:15 That's a really good idea. Oh, no, but it's like they're doing a vaudeville act and the hook comes and takes them off the stage. Yes. Hey, Pinhead, you're a real chowderhead. Yeah. Only there was still a funnier die so we could get paid $200 to write that. $200, dude. We could get $200 to write that.
Starting point is 00:34:35 We could make negative $500. Right. I love the shots fired at Funny or Die on this podcast. That whole universe. But yeah, it's, Frank is clearly the bad boy who, like, seduces his second wife,
Starting point is 00:34:53 this British lady. And, uh, they fuck on her wedding dress that's on top of the bed. Oh, I didn't notice that. She's, she is like, I've never seen,
Starting point is 00:35:04 like, you know, it's just something about it that is, she's both scared but also horny it's very S&M very S&M it's like the the whole idea of this is heaven and hell pain and pleasure
Starting point is 00:35:19 and stuff like that but so I guess it's supposed to make sense being evil and horny at the same time yeah so yeah so he cuts open his his hand on the nail it just fucking gushes blood yeah ridiculous this guy's hand this guy's hand is just a
Starting point is 00:35:37 balloon of blood and it goes. They get an artery for sure. That's how much blood they put on it. I was like, guys, this is a little ridiculous. I mean, come on. But he is looking very, like, he's staggering. And you're like, oh, no, like, what's happening?
Starting point is 00:35:52 And they, the exposition is that he's just always faints when he sees blood. I love this little bit of character development that they do for this character where they make his brother, this badass, you know, like fucking knife. wielding psycho and they make him someone who's going to faint at the sight of his own blood. Yeah. He seems like who would be living with his mother, not Frank. Like this seems like that guy, which yeah, it's like I feel completely repulsed by Larry if I were her.
Starting point is 00:36:23 I'd be like, God, I don't want to have sex with that man. But he's very nice. He's very nice. He's very nice. And it's interesting, he's kind of balding and the first couple guys she kills later are like bald guys. I wonder if that was supposed to be kind of intentional of finding like. Like, you know, baldies.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Great head of hair on Frank. In the flashbacks. But when we meet him now, he's a gross skeleton. Yeah, that's right. When the blood goes into the house, it like reforms into this, you know, kind of gore guy puppet. I couldn't watch this. It's so fucking gross.
Starting point is 00:37:02 It's really gross and it looks cool. I gagged. I gagged. I was looking at it because I have a hard time. with anything that's like, sorry, like snout. Don't think about it. Don't think about it. Don't think about the movie we're talking about.
Starting point is 00:37:15 Anything like snot, sorry. Sorry, you guys. I had a hard time watching the scene. Okay, what's going to happen is listeners, Emily will be gagging, but we don't want to put you through that. So Matt is going to, Matt will have inserted meows, cute kitty meows.
Starting point is 00:37:33 The reason you're hearing those meows is because. You just heard those. because Emily was gagging, thinking about the movie. Yeah. It's fucking gross. But the music is amazing. Music is so good. So I didn't listen.
Starting point is 00:37:48 I didn't watch what was happening. So I turned away and all I could hear is wetness. Like wet gushing. Yeah, it's a squelching movie. It's so gross. But then the music was like, wow, they didn't need to try this hard. But it is a Clive Barker movie. I feel like the score is always pretty great, right?
Starting point is 00:38:04 Oh, yeah. So he's, so he's, is. This is, we don't know this yet, but it is like Frank reforming. And so he's just like a puddle with a little skeleton torso coming out of it. She's up in the attic. He grabs her by the leg and immediately else, Don't look at me. It's like, well, you grabbed her.
Starting point is 00:38:24 I'm grabbing you, but don't look. I'm hideous. Yeah. Another one of those like things, the gentle jump scares that I wish I had and just like, excuse me, you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't look at me, but I'm up. I'm a snotman.
Starting point is 00:38:38 I'm behind you. I'm a gross skeleton that looks like it's covered in blood and cum. Yeah, yeah. But he says it a couple times. I love that he's insecure. Don't look at me. Yeah. I feel fat today.
Starting point is 00:38:53 I have too many cinnabites at the airport. Oh, I feel so fat. If you're wondering why I'm glistening so much, it's from the frosting. Yeah. Oh, I got frosting all over me. When I flew into the San Jose airport. It's a great little airport, more manageable than SFO. Way better.
Starting point is 00:39:15 This guy's boring. This guy sucks. What are you talking about? Shut up. Anyway, so Frank needs blood to reform. Yep. So what she does is she just goes, while her husband doesn't work, she goes out to bars at, I guess, 11 a.m. She's just in there
Starting point is 00:39:37 It's fucking noon She's like drinking and smoking at the bar It's all ladies looking cool Yeah She looks great She looks great Yeah She's dressed like
Starting point is 00:39:45 She's dressed like Paula Poundstone About to record her comic relief set This is a compliment This is a compliment That's a compliment Yeah Just fucking pleaded slacks Big old shoulder pads
Starting point is 00:39:56 I think she looks like a whatever Palmer Was it Robert Palmer Like the You're addicted to love girls Oh sure Might as well face Is that his name? I mean, I don't remember his name. Alan Parsons? No. No, but he... John Waters? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:13 Greg. McGee Rooney. No, so she looks, she looks great. She's going to bars. She's picking up guys in order to kill them for Frank. And that's when I realized, like, that for me, I was like, okay, I love the plot of this movie. Immediately there's, I'm now thinking, okay, this is not just some art house thing. There is a very distinct plot. And it's about what happens when you find good dick. Right. And it's good dick will imprison you. That's what it is.
Starting point is 00:40:43 It's like Dick is incredible that she's murdering guys. With medium ugly dudes too. With the hammer. With the hammer. The hardest way to murder a guy. It's just so crazy that that's the plot of this movie. I just had no clue. So she's hammer murdering all these guys.
Starting point is 00:41:04 There's a little subplot with. the daughter who will become important later. She's kind of going out with this guy who's a little scummy and they keep seeing a just kind of a guy come out of a box car. Just this like dirty dude who kind of follows her around. She works at a pet shop. Heets, crickets, whatever.
Starting point is 00:41:22 It'll be in the last shot of the movie. They were scorpions. Little tiny scorpions, I thought. Are they little scorpions? Oh my God. They were scorpions. Does a pet shop have that many scorpions? He has whole handfuls of these things.
Starting point is 00:41:32 I thought they were feeder crickets. Really crazy that I just. found out about, do you guys know the band? Is it Joy Wave? I can't remember. I think that's no. It's something else. But I just watched it. There's a guy from like a famous band who bought a shirt online. It arrived at his house and there were scorpions in the box. It came from Hawaii and he called 3-1-1 and they immediately went, we don't handle scorpions. And they connected him to 911. He was like, wait, I don't want to. And the cops came and they like all turned on their body cams and we're like, we have to kill the scorpions.
Starting point is 00:42:09 And it's like, what? So they like all stomped on the box a bunch to kill the scorpions. That's crazy to call cops to stop on a box. Yeah. And they were like, we have to turn on the body cameras. Yeah. Why were they off? Oh, because you're cops.
Starting point is 00:42:22 Because you're cops. Okay. There's no teenagers and hoodies in here so we can actually turn on the body cameras. Nobody cares if we stop the scorpions. The funny thing is, he is turning off his camera so we can eat the scorpion. The funny thing is. It was a hoodie in the box, so it was scorpions in a hoodie. Wow.
Starting point is 00:42:39 There you go. That's very sick. Careful out there, kids. Okay, so she's killing guys, and there's these very funny, like, so she kind of drains their blood, I guess. And so they just look like these gross deflated balloons. And there's these very funny shots that are very sitcom-y of her, like, creeping around, holding the deflated guys. And she just moves them into another room of the house. Right.
Starting point is 00:43:02 And I guess we see one barf maggots later. But it's never clear on why no one knows that there's all these corpses piling up. Or smells it or anything. And the interesting thing is, so this woman who plays the stepmom is an amazing actress. The acting in this is outstanding. It's really good. Everybody. The acting is really good.
Starting point is 00:43:22 Her corpse carrying acting could use a little touch up, I think. That's harder to do. Because she's just like in high heel pumps just like whipping a full grown man who has no blood in it. And she's doing that. And she's doing that big, that big exaggerated tiptoe, like she's in a dinner theater production of noises off. Just tiptoeing through the house all big. She's sneaking. Yeah, she's, she's sneaking.
Starting point is 00:43:50 Tiptoe through the window. Yeah, it's, yeah. So in this, like, there's all these weird little sitcom moments where I can't, like, tell how funny they're trying to be. But it is very funny. This movie also has, like, in addition to being, like, very effective and very fucking scary. has some kind of janky, good, bad appeal to it that I really, really liked. For sure. Okay, so the daughter comes home and she kind of goes into the attic and she sees Frank,
Starting point is 00:44:15 who is now, because stepmom has killed enough guys that Frank is mostly a guy now, but has like no skin. He's like the body exhibit. He's like those guys. But he has a suit on. They got him a suit. That's so funny that he's like, and I'm going to wear a little suit over my gore-caped muscles. Our stepmother has the nerve to be wearing white blouses all the time up there.
Starting point is 00:44:38 I'm like, don't you say, dude, is gooey. Can't you see? Oh, I thought you meant because it was after Labor Day. No. Very tacky. Very tacky of her. Very tacky to hammer kill these guys in white after Labor Day. I know, not after Labor Day.
Starting point is 00:44:52 So the daughter, like, finds the cube. She, like, knows that Frank wants it. She throws it out the window. And she kind of wakes up in a hospital. she takes it and runs and then it kind of like like creates the spell over her or something and then she starts having dreams and shit yeah so she wakes up in the hospital her doctor basically looks exactly like Lionel richie anyway he tells her she's going to have to stay at the hospital all night long all night very nice thank you so she again like I said in the opening she is just messing with the Cube, which she still has. They like let her keep it. She's messing with them in the hospital.
Starting point is 00:45:39 She figures it out. And then like Cinebite shit starts happening to her. I mean, her phone was probably on 2%. You got to like do something. Yeah, exactly. There's no magazines in there. In a hotel. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:51 When you're in a hospital with nothing to do, it's like, well, I got to figure out this thing. It's like I wonder if like, you know when you have nothing to read when you're on the toilet and your phone's like at 2%. And then you start reading the back of a shampoo box. Or you just sit and think and you're just like, oh, my God, my thoughts, they're all attacking me at once. Or you're like, I want to open a hell come portal. Let's do that.
Starting point is 00:46:16 I can see if I could do it. Maybe I should jack off today. Then you fall asleep. So she, so centa bite shit starts happening to her. This doorway opens up and there's a bug scorpion guy in there that chases her around. That's pretty scary. And then she kind of meets all the other Cinebites. And they're going to take her, but she's like, I can lead you to Frank, the guy that escaped you.
Starting point is 00:46:42 So she's like trying to sell out Frank. And so she goes home. And that's kind of when we get the big, crazy, insane third act finale. Let's take a little break. And then we'll talk about it after this. Hi, everybody. We're the Free With Ads podcast. Hi.
Starting point is 00:47:12 I'm Matt. I'm Matt. Yeah. I'm Jordan, the people on the show. I'm Matt. Yeah. I'm Jordan. That's our names.
Starting point is 00:47:20 That's our names. This is the portion of the show. I'm Jordan. Okay, hold on. That's a very, I don't sound anything like that. I don't sound anything like that. God's crumbah. So what is this you're wondering?
Starting point is 00:47:36 Yeah, what is this you're wondering? It's the part of the show where we make noises? Yes, it is that, but it's also the Jumbotrod segment. We don't do this every week because people don't buy them that often. But if you go to maximum fun.org slash jumbotron, you can, for a very reasonable price, make us say whatever you want to. It's a message. We've wished people happy birthday, happy anniversary. If you have a friend or a loved one who listens to the show, we will shout them out.
Starting point is 00:48:04 We will plug your band. We will plug your podcast. We will plug your Etsy shop or whatever, maximum fund.org slash jumbotron. This message is from Joe. And his message is to support the shows you love. Emily, do you want to read the rest of the message in one of your famous accents? Yes, I would. This is my first Jumbotron.
Starting point is 00:48:34 First, I want to tell the host, they are awesome and keep up the good work. Love what you do. Second, if listeners can please support the shows you listen to at maximum fun.org. I love that. Thank you, Joe. Thank you, Joe. We love you. What a listener.
Starting point is 00:48:57 We do. We love you. Yeah, that's really, really nice. Of course, you don't just have to glaze us in your Jumbotron message. You can. You can glaze. Feel free to glaze. I mean, glaze away.
Starting point is 00:49:09 I love a good glaze. I guess I'm not familiar. with what that means. I think it means coming on you. Oh, oh, okay. Like in a, you know, in a sexual way. But in like a nice kind of, you. Yeah, friendly.
Starting point is 00:49:22 Friendly and you smear it around. Yeah, yeah. I think it has grown to mean like complimenting someone. Yeah. Boosting them up, lifting them up. Okay, yes. Thank you for clarifying. I wasn't.
Starting point is 00:49:34 It is sexual. But I think it is sexual. See, the Jumbo-Tron, sometimes I learn something new, too. We just get so many things. We get so many rewards and so do you. So to you. And yes, hey, I agree with Joe supporting this show. Make sure it stays a show.
Starting point is 00:49:52 Maximumfund.org slash join. You support the shows you love. You get a ton of bonus stuff or maximum fun.org slash jumbotron to get us to do one of these. Okay, back to the show. Hey, we're back. It's free with ads. We're talking about the finale of Hellraiser. Hell yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:18 Yeah. So she, so the daughter goes home. She sees what she thinks is her dad, but it's Frank wearing his skin. That's right. And he like, he like. Sugar water. Yeah, basically. It's like men in black, but not funny. Uncle Frank, in her dad's skin, starts coming on to her and he's like grabbing her and attacking her. And she knows it's him because he says, come to. daddy, which I guess is something he said a lot. Anyway, so fucking gross. It's weird, too, that she didn't notice that, you know, her dad, number one, had blood just dripping around the edges of his face. And number two was now all of a sudden talking like a 50s scat fucking, like, poet, where he's just like, come on, man, don't be a drag.
Starting point is 00:51:13 Like, you sound like a beatneck all of a sudden. I would be a little concerned. If that had been the case. Yeah, and he's bleeding from the back. Right. His whole back is covered in gore. Yeah. I'd be suspicious of my dad.
Starting point is 00:51:28 That's what I would be. But she figures it out. And then so she gets the, so she has the cube and kind of lures him up in the attic to where the, like, centa bites can get him. And they, like, jam him full of hooks. And before it, like, tears him apart. He says, Jesus wept.
Starting point is 00:51:47 It's so fucking. That is fucking crazy. I guess that is something the actor improvised. I guess the line, according to IMDB trivia, was fuck you. Oh, excuse me. Fuck off. Fuck off is a really funny last line. And then he breaks.
Starting point is 00:52:06 He's like, I can do better. Jesus wept. But he's also like horny and like licking his lips and stuff. And you're like, the synobites keep talking about pain and pleasure. I'm like, bitch, where is the pleasure? I'm trying to find something. You've got to be into the pain in order to enjoy the pleasure. I thought that too.
Starting point is 00:52:25 They did talk about we can get, we're angels or devils, we can give you pain or pleasure, but they just rip people apart with hooks. I feel like I wanted a scene where they're giving him a nice piece of cheesecake and letting him watch Ted Lassow. Right, exactly.
Starting point is 00:52:38 Or butterball, like, sucks his dick off or something. Sure. Yeah, there seems like just a little bit of pleasure would have been nice. That'd have been nice. I love that that line was supposed to be, fuck off fuck off
Starting point is 00:52:49 his last words on the in the movie should have been this sucks yeah I know you are but what am I
Starting point is 00:52:56 yeah yeah or just owie owly that's it but he says Jesus wept which is so weird and
Starting point is 00:53:04 crazy and then he's like cackling and smiling too and you expect you know at this point you're like
Starting point is 00:53:08 oh he should be like you know weeping he's in a lot of pain now Jesus is in the corner
Starting point is 00:53:13 laughing his ass off but you get the feeling that it's like uh for as much as he did lose in this battle, he's like, well, on the plus side, I get to enjoy a little bit of like BDSM sex stuff.
Starting point is 00:53:26 So, you know, kind of a happy ending. Yeah, kind of happy ending for Frank. He probably came. Probably, yeah, right before he died. I know we all love to yell Jesus wept before we come. Oh, Jesus wept. Is that what your dick is doing? Yeah, it's weeping.
Starting point is 00:53:42 It's crying tears of Jesus. Yes. So then it's okay I love the In general I love the less is more storytelling in this movie I think it's great that this is all a mystery
Starting point is 00:53:57 And again there's fucking 10 or 11 more movies Where I'm sure they get into the lore But I love that like this movie is so light on it And you just get to like put it together in your mind I do need a little bit of an explanation For why the daughter can use the cube To just one shot away every monster
Starting point is 00:54:15 they're really just like okay and we need to end this thing so she just shoots them with cube lasers which I guess she can do but anyway so she kind of blows blows everybody else away with cube lasers and then she and her
Starting point is 00:54:30 boyfriend who's just kind of been a nothing character in this movie they throw the cube into the fire but then the gross guy who's been chasing her reaches in a get it Yeah, scorpion mouth guy reaches in, he gets set on fire
Starting point is 00:54:49 and then he turns into a dragon made of bones and flies away and you see it getting sold again. It's like you sound insane when you describe this movie. Well, this is, so I was, everything in this movie, the makeup is amazing, the special effects, and then I was like, what in the Home Depot lawn decorations is this thing? And it just looks like one that you see
Starting point is 00:55:11 in like, I don't know, a Michaels or something. It was crazy. Yeah, this very spirit Halloween, but it's really crazy. It's very when Stephen King doesn't know how to end the novel. Yeah. This is kind of how it goes. When S&L doesn't know how to end a sketch,
Starting point is 00:55:29 they just jump out of window. And then a bone teradactyl comes and flies away. Yeah, it goes away. Oh, okay. And then we just jump out the window. Yes, and again, I'm sure the bone taradactyl will get a eight-episode Hulu series. Yep.
Starting point is 00:55:42 So it's four, five, and six will be kind of boring flashbacks. That's right. Bone teradactyl, pig in the city. Yeah. I've heard of a pig in the city, but a bone taradactyl? Anyway. And that's the end of Hellraiser. Okay.
Starting point is 00:56:01 I think we know where this is going. We got to do the hunk watch. It's hunk watch. Emily, you want to take this one? Hell yeah. It's stepmom for me. No, stepmom. I was going to do it.
Starting point is 00:56:12 I was sure you were going to say Pinhead. Oh, no, no. I mean, I think he's okay. He just, I don't know. He seems like a pillow princess to me. I don't know. He's not doing too much. So basically you eat Pinhead's pussy and then he falls asleep.
Starting point is 00:56:28 Yeah. I updated a few of those. Yeah, they don't like to work. You could tell that, you know, these. He's got the hinge people doing all the pain stuff and he just watches. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But no, that this actress, who played the stepmom.
Starting point is 00:56:44 I should know her name, but I don't. But God, she's like powerful, striking. I love the 80s, like shoulder pad, like, looking awesome makeup. I just, I'm obsessed with her. I'm obsessed with her. I know. Matt, any thoughts on the hunks of this film?
Starting point is 00:57:01 Honestly, and this is probably, you know, like problematic. But I'm going frank. Yeah? Like. He is pretty hunky. Yeah, a few, like, I don't know. scenes into it, I was like, I get it. The way she was just so attracted to his...
Starting point is 00:57:19 I'd hammer kill guys for him. Yeah, like, yeah, there's something about it where I was just like, yeah, I get it. He's hot. He's hot. I mean, he's hotter than fucking Larry. And so, yeah, he's my guy. Or Larry. Poor Larry.
Starting point is 00:57:32 Poor Larry. Yeah, and I'm going to go ahead and give it to Mother Superior. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Mother. Open that. neck from daddy. Mommy. Mommy superior, more like.
Starting point is 00:57:47 Talk about deep throat, you know what I? Yeah. Let me get face deep in that neck. That's right. You know, what that neck hole do. You know, Matt, I think her, you know, how they call, you know, Pinhead was not his name. But I think people did call her deep throat. I think that was her like, her, like, casual name that the fans gave her until I think it has been
Starting point is 00:58:12 retcon. as Mother's Appeared. I love that. Got it. So yeah, look at that. I was right. All right.
Starting point is 00:58:17 Those are the hunks of Hellraiser. We're going to tell you what we thought about the movie right after this. Hey, we're back. It's Free With Ads. We're going to tell you what we thought of Hellraiser. But first, a very exciting announcement. We've got a new episode of our bonus show. We like shows.
Starting point is 00:58:58 Sting goes here. We love it. Our bonus episode for Matt. fund members where we go around the horn, we pick some of our favorite TV pilots, we watch them, we review them. This month, it is Emily's pick. Matt and I have not heard what the pick is, and she's going to announce it to us live on the show. Emily, what are we watching this month for We Like Shows? Are You Afraid of the Dark? Wow. I love it. I love it. That's very exciting. Awesome. Can't wait. This is the Nickelodeon
Starting point is 00:59:32 Snick classic. That's right. Kids horror stories. I think we were all probably terrified by an episode or two of this. Yeah, I don't even remember what the first episode is. So I'm very excited to rewatch it.
Starting point is 00:59:44 And it's free, like almost everywhere too. That's not what this segment is usually about. It's just our favorite shows. But that's a nice little bonus too. Fun little bonus. Check it out. Well, yeah, if you're out there and you want to watch along with us,
Starting point is 00:59:58 make sure to watch the first episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark? We're talking to the OG, not the reboot, right, Emily? Oh, of course. Okay, there you go. There you go. Very fun if you want to hear all of our bonus apps and every bonus episode from every show across the Maximum Fun Network. Go to maximum fun.org slash join.
Starting point is 01:00:19 You support the show. That's what keeps the show coming. And that's how you hear the bonus episodes. Okay. Exciting. I cannot wait to hear what everybody thought overall of Hellraiser. I'll go first here I was I was really stoked on this movie
Starting point is 01:00:34 It is for fucking sickos This is a sicko movie for perves But if you're a sicko perv and you like a more extreme horror movie I think this is so well made I can totally see why this became a crazy Franchise with sequels and video games and everything Yeah I'm I'm stoked I'm definitely gonna watch more Hellraiser movies after this
Starting point is 01:00:56 I'm like excited there's like this whole Treasure Trove of stuff that I haven't watched yet So yeah, I'm definitely going to do more Hellraiser. Matt, to your point you made earlier about this movie being about good dick, a fun little anecdote from the IMDB trivia. Apparently, the movie was supposed to be called the Hellbound Heart, and the studio did not like that name, so they were trying to think of new names,
Starting point is 01:01:22 and apparently a 60-year-old quotes, very English, very proper female crew member offered up the title, what a woman will do for a good fuck. Wow. Wow. I think you're on to something there. Yeah. Being the not so sub subtext of this.
Starting point is 01:01:40 Yeah. Yeah, this was a total blast. Practical shit works. It's kind of scary, kind of cheesy. Tons, tons, tons of fun. I'm giving an eight. All right. Matt, what you think?
Starting point is 01:01:52 I am also going to give it an eight. I really liked it. I think my, I don't know, expectations were low like I said I came in thinking it was going to be all gore no story um and instead it ended up I think you put it perfectly when he said it's just like a long episode of tales from the crypt um but it was clear that it uh what it lacked in I don't know sort of story because it was a simple story it's a it's about what if you're you know what of your uh second wife was cheating on you with the devil you know it's kind of kind of stupid um sort of about a
Starting point is 01:02:36 haunted house a little bit too uh but what it lacked in story you made up for in great acting and incredible practical effects and incredible costumes and makeup uh i can see why this movie um sparked an entire franchise of terrible sequels um so uh we don't know that map Maybe 7, 8, and 9 are great. I think we can probably guess they are all, I bet part two is the worst movie ever made. Oh, okay. I love this. I just have a feeling that because you don't really see there's no other cultural contribution of this movie outside of its original form.
Starting point is 01:03:22 So I assume that they're all kind of straight to VHS schlock. But this was great. And maybe we'll watch one of the sequels, but I've given it an eight. All right. Emily, take us home. What did you think of Hellraiser? I'm with you guys.
Starting point is 01:03:35 I think it's an eight for me as well. I really want us to watch other Hail Razor movies. Maybe live sometime. That would be cool. I really liked this because we, our last two movies that we did for, you know, our spooky season have been Stan Winston special effects movies. This is Bob Keene, who has done like the Lost World Jurassic Park movie, did like a lot of the night breed, which is another movie we got to do sometime.
Starting point is 01:04:07 But he also did a movie called To Catch a Yeti. Cool. That's got meatloaf in it and like a little Yeti character. We got to watch this movie, you guys. I'm down. To Catch a Yet. Yes. It looks awesome.
Starting point is 01:04:22 To catch a Yet eater. I mean, I don't know. It's free on a lot of things right now, guys. Gasp. Really? You don't say. The Meatloaf Yeti movie? I don't believe it.
Starting point is 01:04:38 Yeah. But I think it was truly scary, though. It was just as scary as I thought it was going to be. I liked the world building. I want to watch other ones because I want to know what it's like within the world of the Cinebites. I hope there's more like expansion into what it's like to be there. kind of in the future.
Starting point is 01:04:55 So I give it at eight. I had a great time, but I don't want to watch it again, that's for sure. All right. That's what we thought of Hellraiser. We really liked it. Let's do a little bit of plug-in.
Starting point is 01:05:08 Anybody got anything? Keep checking out the FlimGem store on my Etsy page and keep your eyes peeled for episodes of the Antecraft on my YouTube channel, which is linked in the comment. Excellent.
Starting point is 01:05:23 Hey, I'm going to go out on a limb and say maybe a phleg gems purchase would be a good holiday gift. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I think that's a great idea. I think it would be too. I want to tell folks, speaking of wonderful things you can give for the holidays, go to bit. L.Y slash big dang fight.

This is the Predator comic book, now graphic novel that I did with Roland Boshe and Rory Coleman. What if the Predator got loose
Starting point is 01:06:04 in the Mortal Kombat tournament? That's the pitch. So it's all five issues in a nice little book, and it has this prequel story that we wrote for free comic book day that I kind of thought was going to be like lost to history
Starting point is 01:06:15 and just these kind of free comic book giveaways, but it's being included in the collection. I am so stoked for that. and yeah, you can get yourself a signed copy. I'll personalize it if you want me to write fingering story or tallest guy or whatever in the book. I'm happy to do it.
Starting point is 01:06:30 Just tell book soup there in the notes. That's what you want. Bit.ly slash big dang fight. And if you don't want to buy it, request it at your local library. I'm fucking serious. Do it. Call your local library and tell them you want predator bloodshed.
Starting point is 01:06:45 And if you want to meet me and get a free, not a free. I'm trying. for these things. If you want to meet me and get a comic book signed, you can do it at the Revenge of Comics and Pinball Block Party here in L.A. That is November 7th.
