Welcome to Card Talk, the show where we help you decide if this credit card belongs in your collection.
Let's talk about the Chase Inc. Business Unlimited card.
Yeah, this is an interesting card. So it's a business card, obviously.
So you'll need to have some sort of a small business, although lots of small businesses can qualify.
We can talk more about that in a minute.
But the key things you need to know about the Inc. Business Unlimited card is that it has
no annual fee. So that's pretty nice. This card does have foreign transaction fees. So it's not
a good card to use overseas because those fees are going to be higher than what you're going to
even earn on the card. So you don't want to use this card for your foreign purchases. And it has
a very simple earning rate. You earn one and a half points per dollar everywhere. Now you'll see it
says 1.5% back everywhere, but the way Chase awards that to you is in the form of Chase Ultimate
Rewards points. So you'll get one and a half Ultimate Rewards points per dollar that you spend
everywhere that you could redeem for cash back. Or if you've got other Chase cards, you can combine
your points together. And if one of your other chase cards enables the transfers to airline and hotel
partners, then you'd be able to transfer on but not if you only have this card, if you only have
this card, your option would be to redeem for cash back essentially, sometimes you can earn a
little bit more on other categories. So I think right now there's five as we record this, you can
get five x on Lyft through March of 2025. Every now and then, there's something like that. But generally speaking, this card earns one and a half points per dollar on all purchases. So, A, who can get it, Greg? And B, is it a small business, you don't even have to have registered your business or anything.
You can apply as a sole proprietor.
And we'll put in the show notes a link to a video about how to apply for cards like this. from selling stuff on eBay or at yard sales or working on writing a novel or setting up a website
that you're hoping to put advertising on and earn some money that way. It can literally be just
about anything. And when you apply, if you just put in your own name as a business name, there's
no requirements about having registered your business anywhere. So almost anyone, really, who's a resident in the United States can apply
for this card. And yeah, so the thing I love about this card is that the welcome bonuses are usually
really good. And the points, while they advertise, as Nick said, they advertise it as cash back.
But what you're really getting are Chase Ultimate Rewards points, which if you have other cards like the Sapphire Preferred card, you can move your points to that card and then redeem points for travel for better than one cent per point value or even better move those points to various transfer
partners like hyatt united air canada and so on to get potentially much better value than one cent
per point and so that's what i really like another thing that i love is that unlike many other chase cards the um three of the ink cards do not have 24 or 48 month rules meaning like most chase cards
say if you've earned a welcome bonus for this card in the past 24 months or some of them say 48 months
um you you're not eligible for a new welcome bonus this does not have that rule um also it doesn't
have the rule saying that if you already
have this card, you can't get it again. So you could literally get multiple of this card. So,
you know, maybe you have multiple different businesses, like you're selling on eBay and
you're creating a website, you can apply for this card for each for each of those.
Yeah, yeah. So certainly a card worth considering. And
you know, when you say selling things on eBay, just as a for instance, my wife buys children's
books and resells them on Facebook Marketplace a couple times a year, a few times a year. And
that's a business that qualifies for business cards. So like we said, quite easy to potentially
qualify anyway for business cards. And yeah, so this is a decent card in terms of
one and a half points per dollar. If you're going to transfer those on to partners, good value. If
you were just going to redeem for cash back, one and a half percent cash back is not a particularly
great deal. So it's not a card I would consider if I were only looking for cash back. But if you
are looking to combine with points earned on your Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve or Inc.
Business Preferred and then use them either for an elevated rate towards travel through Chase Travel or Transfer
to Partners, then this is a card that's worth considering anyway, worth having. It's similar
to the Freedom Unlimited card on the consumer side, but without some of the Freedom Unlimited's
additional bonus categories. So this one would be good for unbonused spend, perhaps. Yep, that's exactly right. If you want more information about this card, don't forget,
