We started out by making some scoring adjustments based on your suggestions, so give the full video a look for some fun discussion around score adjustments! What is the Wild Card challenge? For this challenge, our contestants have picked from wild card decks to set the parameters of their trips. First, they selected travel destinations, then hotel, airline, and transferable points cards, which provide their points and miles budgets. And finally, they selected power-ups and obstacles to make their travels a little more realistic to the challenges our readers and listeners face, and make things a little more interesting! Starting point is 00:01:13 The following podcast is a recording from the second of three Wild Card Challenge live stream check-ins. Let's see who made it to Destination 2 in time. Frequent Miller on the air starts now. All right. Welcome, everyone. We're at our second live stream check-in. This is exciting. Welcome to our destination two live check-in, although not everyone is in their second destination. So we're going to start off with each of you explaining where you are, and we're going to start with Greg.
Starting point is 00:01:44 Where are you right now physically? Maybe mentally and emotionally, if you want. Well, just real quick, you know, my first destination was Panama, and when we did our destination one check-in, I wasn't in Panama anymore. I was in Columbia, which was my second destination. And so now for the second destination check-in, I'm obviously not in Columbia anymore. I'm in Fort Lauderdale, of course. So that's where I am today or now. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:02:13 All right. And Nick, how about you? So I am in destination number two, which is Vietnam. I'm in Hanoi, Vietnam. I got here early morning hours, your time, I suppose. It's now Sunday morning where I am. And you can see I made my bed already. or actually just never actually slept in it.
Starting point is 00:02:33 So it's been a busy night. So the content doesn't write itself and the clips don't send themselves to carry, unfortunately, to work her magic. So it's been a long night. But yes, I am here in Hanoi, Vietnam and excited about it. Yes. All right. Tim, how about you?
Starting point is 00:02:51 Where are you? I am in a similar time zone to Nick. I'm in Seoul, South Korea. I'm on the Soul train, so to speak. and to next point, I last night, I was joking with Carrie and Annie because last night I got back and I started, because you know, like we get back and get back to the hotel and you have to go through all your video clips and edit them out because you can't just send all the stuff to Annie and and Carrie, even though Carrie probably thinks that it seems like I do. So I was narrowing him down and I sent one batch out. And then the next thing I know, I like wake up and it's like five hours later and my glasses are down and my phone's. I never finished that.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Which is funny because I'd still gotten so much footage already that I was like, okay, that's Tim's day. Nope. But it reminded me of when we were on the Party of Five Challenge, there is this night. I think we were in Buenos Aires. And Nick and Carrie and I were sharing a room. And I had to do a featured post for the next morning. But so I was doing, I was doing the featured article. And I literally fell asleep with the, the, uh,
Starting point is 00:03:58 computer on my lap in the bed. And Nick, bless his heart, came over and just put the computer and he wrote, wrote the article for me. I remember that. Did he tuck you in to? I was like, oh, my gosh, I woke up and I knew the feature hadn't been done. And then I looked and it had published. I'm like, wait, how did that?
Starting point is 00:04:16 You guys have opposite sleep arrangements that you keep accidentally falling asleep and and Nick just doesn't sleep at all. I have never seen Nick really sleep in bed before. Yeah. It would be funny if Nick falls asleep during the live stream because it's been up. Unlikely after my salted Vietnamese coffee at breakfast. So no fear of that. That's good, Bojo.
Starting point is 00:04:42 All right. Thanks for that update, everyone. And just you heard these guys reference Annie. That's my twin sister. She helps us out during the challenges. She makes those great recap videos everybody loves and just helps me with behind seen stuff. All right, we are ready to move on through our destination check in. As you recall, those of you who showed up to Destination 1, we dealt out some scores that you guys had some
Starting point is 00:05:07 opinions about. Yes. And there were a lot of opinions. And it's been really fun, like, reading like how passionate everyone's been about this challenge and how we scored. Like, it does seem like perhaps Carrie and I didn't necessarily score things entirely appropriately, which that was pointed out quite a few times and it's completely fair call, like looking back at how we'd score things. At the time, like we'd said during the live stream that it had felt like Tim's scores like might be a little bit low. And indeed, that was the case. So we invited all the leaders and viewers to give their feedback on how they thought things should be scored and that we would talk about it and potentially rework some of the scoring and that's what we have done.
Starting point is 00:05:57 So as just a quick recap, when we did the initial scoring, Greg had 104 points, Nick had 102 points, and Tim had 101 points. So it was all fairly close. I'm like only three points between them, but it was in order of like Greg, Nick and Tim. Carrie and I chatted today and went through things. and so I guess we should share the revised scoring. Let's do the reveal. So we'd also like mentioned on Slack, like on our private Slack, that we were planning on doing these changes. And Greg pretty much begged for us to deduct points from here.
Starting point is 00:06:37 And like when your boss is telling you like, please you not give me so many points, you kind of have to obey him. So Greg did lose a couple of points. So let me get up his one. We dropped his luxury flights from an eight to a seven because he had booked a two-stopper that had increased his chances of encountering irregular operations. Feels like seven, like maybe is still like a little bit generous, but he also did get to
Starting point is 00:07:08 travel in business class for most of the way. And we also dropped his wallet friendliness for flights from a seven to a six as well, because In hindsight, like him booking his award for 35,000 a plan-wise, it wasn't a bad redemption, but it didn't justify a seven. So he's dropped down one point with that one, which means that his score is now, I believe, 102 points. Hold on. Let me just ask for a moment in the fact that I'm tied for first.
Starting point is 00:07:37 Nick or Greg. Yep, for now. Greg, how do you feel about this adjustment? I feel really good. I think I said at the time that I thought it was very generous what I was scored for flights. And so I think this is a better, you know, more realistic score. So good job with that alteration. However, I do think Greg should get some, I'm going to rebut for Greg,
Starting point is 00:08:04 but I think he should give some ingenuity for glamping inside an airport. He got a view of the sky? Yeah. Yeah, I had no idea that was a thing until I saw it. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I give myself points for luckily having a travel pillow with me because I would not have been able to sleep on that rock-like thing that they called a pillow that was in there. All right, so just to resumbrance, Stephen, for my own notes,
Starting point is 00:08:34 can you remind me what Greg's, which two categories changed and what his new total is? Both of the changes related to the flight category. So he lost one point from luxury, which took it down from an eight to a seven. And from wallet-fiddlingness, it went from seven to six. All righty. Thank you. And now we have some other changes, don't we? So, Nick, you were on 102 points.
Starting point is 00:09:02 And now you're level with Greg, except you're not anymore because your score has changed. So we've had quite a bit of. feedback from readers about your penalty for taking an Uber because your obstacle card was that you weren't supposed to take any rights, and you did take an Uber while you're in Paris. It does seem like a lot of readers, I think by nature of the points of Miles hobby, people love gaming, people love finding loopholes. And the readers have been demanding that you not be judged quite so harshly for the fact that you took an Uber in Paris because, strictly, speaking, it wasn't in one of your first two destinations in the way that we have ridden that.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Like this is so much more all of a sudden. So it does still feel like you kind of went against the spirit of that rule, which I feel like there was slight consciousness of guilt by the fact that you would address the fact that the judges would decide about that before. But we did have one reader in particular suggests maybe Nick should only be deducted two points. So we have adjusted your score and gone with that idea, especially because so many other people didn't think that you should be deducted any points at all. So we're going to stick with minus two points. But that does bump your score up from 102 to 105.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Whoa. Hold on. Let me really bask for a second. So let us know what do you think. What do you think about that, Nick? Surprised? I mean, I am surprised that. Surprise not because I don't think it's fair. I think that if you read the comments on the post, particularly if you read Whitney's comment, my new attorney.
Starting point is 00:10:43 That was great. I think she presented our argument quite well. But yes. And if you haven't read Whitney's comment, go to our judging post where we share the scores and see what she wrote because, yeah, it was fantastic. Stephen Pepper was threatened with legal action if you didn't change courts. It was quite compelling.
Starting point is 00:11:01 It was compelling. I would like to thank my attorney for getting three points returned to me here. And he didn't even need to go to... But you have to split it with your attorney, of course, so... Well, that's right. One of the have points for you, Whitney. So that's not all, though. Is it, Stephen?
Starting point is 00:11:17 That is not all. We also have to re-evaluate Tim's scores. So readers were pretty much unanimous that we had underscore Tim. And then, yeah, when looking back, it did seem like we applied things a little bit differently. Like, it felt like it was logical at the time. But, I mean, yeah, it seems like... Nick was getting points where Tim wasn't for similar kind of things. So we have increased, let's see, your hotel duplicability from a six to a nine.
Starting point is 00:11:48 Because we had marked it down a little bit because he had used the Sapphire Reserve Select Hotels Credit, which expires at the end of this year. But then someone had pointed out that the hotel credit that Nick was using for it was a Capital One, limited time one, that probably even fewer people are actually using. And so that absolutely made sense that Tim certainly shouldn't have been penalized for that. We've increased hotel ingenuity from seven to an eight because of like the research he did. And just kind of like because he was going to be arriving late at night and having to leave fairly early in the morning on the second morning, it made sense to be staying by the airport to maximize everything that he needed to do.
Starting point is 00:12:31 So an extra point for that one. Activities luxury from an eight to a nine. Again, like his kind of stuff was very similar to Nix, and so he shouldn't have been penalised one extra point for that. And ingenuity of activities from an eight to a nine, because a couple of readers have pointed out how good it was that he'd researched so many different options and had like a whole ton of backup options for all of his activities
Starting point is 00:12:59 so that if things got drained off or something like that, then he would easily be able to adjust on the fly. So that means that Tim went from, I think it was 101 points, and he is now at 107. So that means that where before Greg was in the lead, Nick was second and Tim was last, now it's reversed. And Tim is first at the moment.
Starting point is 00:13:21 Nick is second and Greg is in third and final place. Wow. Oh, and Tim, what do you think about these changes? Well, I mean, honestly, I'm worried. I just hope that you guys still are paid the same after this challenge as you are right now. Because you're, I don't know. I don't know that I would mess around with breaks for like that.
Starting point is 00:13:43 But, you know, that's you, you guys do you. Now, I mean, honestly, I thought it was, I thought it was fun like you guys. I thought it was fun to read some of the comments about all from, from Whitney's. From Whitney's legal summation of why Nick was unjustly accused all the way down. I just, that was actually this whole, I really, I really enjoyed the reader input in general. And it was fun to see then readers debating each other. And it was, that was a fun. That was a lot of fun. So thank, I just, thanks to all the readers for their engagement in this. It was a lot of, we have, we have fun reading these things and seeing everyone else. We've seen all those opinions. So that was kind of the fun thing that came out of this. I think you guys should just intentionally misscore everything really.
Starting point is 00:14:28 How do you know that's not what we did? Maybe. No, I also really appreciate the readers chiming in. It was awesome to see how much you guys care. And, you know, we've had challenges before where the readers decide the entire win. And sometimes we do that. Sometimes we don't. And either way, we always want you guys to be involved and we value the input. So thanks for chiming in on that post. And something else I should clarify, which I meant to include in the first live stream check-in. And we had a few people commenting about it, which is why I figured I should add a little bit of kind of context to the situation. A few people had asked why Nick had been deducted points for going against his obstacle card, whereas Greg ended up taking a flight before 10 a.m.
Starting point is 00:15:14 And he had the night owl card. And so, like, shouldn't he have been penalized for that? So as it was happening in real time, like Greg had sent through that his flight was delayed. And I'd thankfully been still being awake. And so I said, like, just rebook whatever you need to rebook or whatever they do for you. Because ultimately, someone who's a night out, you might kind of try to avoid early morning flights when you're booking them for yourself. But if you encounter regular operations, you're not going to say to, like, the phone agent, no, please don't rebook me on the 455 a.m. flight. Please don't rebook me on the 6.30 a.m. flight.
Starting point is 00:15:51 I have to leave after 10 a.m. like, you're not going to do that if you're going on vacation somewhere else. something like that, all you want to do is get your travel day over and done with and get your destination as soon as possible. I'm an eye down myself and I'm not a big fan of taking flights before 10 a.m. But in Griggs situation, I absolutely would have gone for like one of the two flights that he was offered early in the morning. And so, and because that was irregular operations, rather than him actively booking a flight before 10 a.m., that's why we didn't penalize him for that. So just to give a bit more clarity regarding that. Then one other piece was that I forget if this was recorded in a live or just in a team meeting.
Starting point is 00:16:33 Greg had attempted to kind of clarify the T's and C's beforehand. And we'd kind of stated that if you take a, he was trying to clarify like, at what point in the night does it switch from night owl late at night to, you know, early bird early in the morning? And Stephen and I had kind of decided that like if you're still in the airport, like if you haven't gone to. get a hotel than it's late at night. Greg did not leave the airport. So he actually still satisfied the T's and C's of his challenge.
Starting point is 00:17:07 So. Yeah, because really it was more just like having a nap in a private room in a lounge. Plus the he had also asked beforehand like what's the deal if you have like if you book a flight that departs after 10 a.m.
Starting point is 00:17:23 But then the next flight that's part of that itinerary departs before 10am, like does that get affected by the night out? And our stance was if you're still kind of within the same time zone, then you're connecting flight can't depart before 10 a.m. Because that's still a similar kind of thing, unless it's like a two-hour layout when you're just up that entire time. But figured that it would be a different kind of situation
Starting point is 00:17:49 where you've taken a 12-hour flight to a different continent and then you're in a completely different time zone. you want to head to a hotel for six hours or something like that before you're connecting flight. We'd said that kind of thing would have been okay in our eyes because ultimately it might have been 10 a.m. local, but your body's not thinking it's 10 a.m. local effectively. So that was just another point of clarification that didn't end up madame in the end based on what he booked. But, but yeah, we did try and make the obstacle things clear, but apparently just didn't work. Can I say that I really appreciated Nick and Greg's different approaches to the teens and Cs of their obstacle cards?
Starting point is 00:18:34 Greg wanted to clarify everything beforehand and make sure that there wasn't going to be anything that he didn't violate. Whereas Nick was sort of like, I think there's some wiggle room here. That is 100% an accurate differentiation of your characters. All right. Before we move away from the stuff that has, you know, the stuff that has. happened towards check-in one. I just want to call out a few things that I thought were really cool about what the other guys did and their things. So one, Tim, you know, I had booked Avianca business class using lots of miles, so I wasn't particularly, like, proud of how many miles it cost,
Starting point is 00:19:12 but I had set a goal of booking business class. Tim found a way to fly the same product, but all the way from the West Coast in business class, but he paid for economy, and I thought that was awesome, and also how he used his combination of Chase Sapphire card and aeroplane card and his power up to turn all of that into a very low-cost way of paying for travel like upgrades, like car rentals or whatever. And so that combination is really clever stuff that he did out of his trip. Nick flew across the Atlantic about 12 times
Starting point is 00:19:55 and chart, and it cost him about half what it cost me to get to Panama. So just cheers to both of you guys. Thank you. Thank you. It's been a fun ride. Well, along those same lines, next up, we'd like to hear each of you summarize, okay, what happened
Starting point is 00:20:14 between the last time we've checked in with anyone and now, and we also want you to kind of Give us your highlight. What are you feeling most proud about and confident about? And your low light, what do you feel the most nervous is going to get scored? And just as an update to viewers, since everyone's kind of in the middle of their travel still, we're not going to be scoring today. Today, we are not revealing Destination 2 scores yet because not enough has happened yet, even though a lot has happened. But instead, we'll still hear an update and we'll hear how people are feeling about what they've done so far. So, Greg, let's start with you. Give us us a What happened since we saw you last? What are you feeling confident about? What are you feeling nervous about? Okay. And we're not on a timer this time.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Okay. So, yeah, so I flew once again, Avianca business class from Panama to Colombia. This time I landed in Medellin. So I had asked for input on Instagram and on Facebook, Frigemiler Insiders, about like, where should I go in Colombia? and I had been thinking Cartagena beforehand, and a number of people did suggest it, but more people said, no, you're really going to like Medellin.
Starting point is 00:21:29 And then there were other creative suggestions, too. But it came down to I wanted a place that not only would be good to get to, but also had airport connections so that I could reasonably get there on time and reasonably get out of there to wherever I need to go next. managing fit that bill and I stayed in a very nice little hotel with a little tiny room in the heart of like this great neighborhood El Poblato I think it's called something like that and did a food like street food walking tour the first night there which was which was right after that first live stream check-in. I was already there when we did our first live-stream
Starting point is 00:22:15 trek in. So I had to rush off right afterwards to go to the food tour. Had a bunch of fun with that and had some just incredible food. And the next day, I did an all-day tour to Guadipay, which included along the way there a very sad little animal farm thing, like zoo thing that I didn't really write about because it was just so sad. But that we went on. about it. Oh, just the animals in their little cages and it was just such an obvious, like, tourist trap, but a bad one, you know, not well-funded tourist trap. And then, but then, then things picked up a bit with a boat ride in a, in a pretty lake. And then it picked up even more when we got to the town of Guadipa, which is crazy touristy, but it's also crazy adorable.
Starting point is 00:23:13 and it's so colorful and there's music everywhere that it's just it's very it's such a vibrant little town it was really fun to go to that um i'm not usually one that likes like touristy you know town type of things but i really did like that um and then we ended with my favorite part which is near Guadapé, there's a gigantic rock. I mean, it's so big that they built stairs that criss-cross up to the top so you can walk to the top. And I think it's 760 steps, something like that. 708, I was going to say, I watched it.
Starting point is 00:23:57 You just tried to add 60. It was a long, sweaty time. But the views from the top, absolutely spectacular. So I loved everything about that, even though that place also, like down at the bottom, it's like crazy touristy. It's kind of like how Niagara Falls is, you know, overwhelmed with like touristy stuff around it. Similar thing here. The big rock has a bunch of ugly touristy stuff around it, but the rock itself and the views from it, just spectacular. So that was basically it, the next, because that took all day.
Starting point is 00:24:31 And then the next day I flew out of Columbia to. where I am now. Yeah. What within all of that was your highlight? What are you most confident about? That's a good question. Well, I guess the activities were, if you're talking about what category of things, the hotel was good, but it wasn't great. The flights were, again, good, but not great. So the activities were really, really excellent. So that's where I would put, that's where I'll put my money. And what about the low light? Sorry, go ahead. Go ahead, Stephen. So I was just going to else was the balcony at your hotel bigger than your actual room because it looked pretty small. Yeah, no, totally. The balcony looked awesome. Yeah. I mean, the low light, it's not that the,
Starting point is 00:25:19 so the room was small. Yeah, that didn't, it kind of disappointed me, but it didn't really bother me much because just me, you know, so it was fine. But what bothered me about it was that from all the internet research I had done, I thought this hotel would be a showstopper kind of like the hotel in Panama City was and it just wasn't like it's a very nice hotel I would recommend it to people but you're just not going to get that wow factor out of it even with that big balcony and the and the jacuzzi table I think I don't know from the pictures it looked pretty pretty good but if that's your low light then that's pretty good um yeah didn't you say that the the and you might have just mentioned here.
Starting point is 00:26:06 But didn't you say that the city that you visited, the day trip you into, that was the inspiration for the Disney movie? Well, so that's what the tour, that's what the tour guide told us that it was one of the towns that inspired in Conto. And then I like looked it up on the internet the next day and it was like, oh, they don't mention that. That's one of the towns that inspired it. But, you know, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:26:33 Maybe it's like, uh, the tour guide seemed to color pulse. Yeah, I mean, that's what you get for believing what a tour guide says. Or I mean, maybe that's what I'm getting for believing what Google results show. Yeah. I didn't, I didn't research it too hard. So yeah. Let's let's go with yes.
Starting point is 00:26:48 The tour guide said so, so yes. Yeah, yeah. It's already in canonized in Instagram real form. So there you go. So it's true now. Right. Now it's on the internet. It's on the internet.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Somebody else has seen it now. It's not referencing you're real. Yep. Yeah, someone's going to use it as a source. Oh, totally. Oh, boy. What I really love really quickly, just because I want to surface it. I thought it was really funny.
Starting point is 00:27:14 One of Greg's tour guides evidently was fairly profane in his guiding. The food for guide, yeah. It was fun seeing, during the scene on the back end, him, Greg talked to Annie and Carrie about how to make sure that it's safe for publication. I'm not even sure. sure we managed. They had to cut out pretty much that whole scene. I mean, there's like a few pans of like the people and the food.
Starting point is 00:27:41 But I think you just have like basically music playing over it instead of instead of the Torgettank. It's a colorful place. All kinds of colorful. Totally. Anyone have any follow up questions for Greg before we move on to Nick? All right. Nick, where have you been and what have you been doing since we saw you last?
Starting point is 00:28:01 gives a summary. You did a lot of flying since we saw you last, since you saw me last since I saw you. Whoever did the ceiling. Maybe get some sleep after this. When we first the last check in, I was at the airport in Guadalupe, so I flew from there back to Paris on Air France
Starting point is 00:28:17 and onward to Zurich on Air France. So that was one booking for 12,000 Virgin Atlantic miles again, even though it included the two legs that didn't cost more. It was still 12,000 points across the Atlantic again. And then from there I had a separate ticket. I flew on Swiss on a separate ticket in business class from Zurich to
Starting point is 00:28:38 Bangkok. And that was nice. That was an 11-hour flight in business class. I used my Latonza miles and more miles for that. So that was huge because that obviously, I mean, it was super comfortable compared to crossing the Atlantic three times and three days in economy class, even though I had extra leg room seats on two out of those three transatlantic flights anyway. It still wasn't nearly as comfortable as those Swiss buses last seats were. So that was very nice. Service was good. Food was good. So, and a much more space to get my work done. It was just a more comfortable environment. So that was great. It also made up a big chunk of the distance I have to cover. And so a little foreshadowing. By the time I end up in Australia, more than 40% of my flights will have not been an economy class.
Starting point is 00:29:23 So there you have that bit. And that certainly came in to account for a large chunk. So I flew to Bangkok in business class on Swiss, and then I had a separate ticket where I flew Vietnam Airlines from Bangkok to Hanoi. Now, the interesting thing there I thought is that I never would have booked the exact itinerary I did if we hadn't done the Million Mile Madness Challenge with SAS. And here's what I mean by that. There were two hours between these two flights, and they were separate tickets, international, separate tickets. So I would have assumed in the past that I would have to go through immigration in Thailand, get back out to the check-in count, or check-in, come back through security.
Starting point is 00:30:04 And two hours wouldn't be enough time to do all of that. But during the SAS challenge, I learned that in Bangkok, especially if you don't have any checked luggage, it's actually really easy to transit on separate international tickets. You don't have to clear immigration. You just go to a transfer desk and you can check in there and get your boarding pass. So it was really easy. From the time I came off of the plane from Swiss to the time I had my boarding pass in hand with Vietnam Airlines was less than 20 minutes. And I had to take a train between terminals.
Starting point is 00:30:33 It wasn't even like it was particularly close. It was just a pretty efficient, easy process. So that was great. And then I was able to get my Delta Sky Miles number attached to that so that I got boarding group one, which I wanted because I definitely didn't want to check a bag. Hanoia is pretty notorious for the really slow baggage time to baggage claim. So I wanted to make sure I got on the plane early and didn't have any any scare of having a checked bag because I had stuff lined up when I got to Hanoi, so I didn't have a lot of extra time. And my flight got delayed, which also slowed things down a little bit.
Starting point is 00:31:07 But thankfully, I had booked a VIP fast track service in Hanoi. I did it through Viator, Viator, however you pronounce it. And so I booked the top level VIP one that takes you through the diplomatic line because there's no waiting there. You just basically walk right up to an immigration officer and so with someone. Someone got me off of the plane and took me to immigration, went through there that was very quick. They didn't even ask to look at my visa. They do, by the way, for anybody who's considering Vietnam, the airlines ask for a printed
Starting point is 00:31:39 copy of your E visa. And it says that you might need the printed copy in Vietnam. Do they really? Like, yeah, they needed a copy event when I checked in to get my boarding pass. And luckily, literally the day I left home to stop this challenge, that morning, for some reason, I was like, you know, I feel like I remember having a hard copy of my Vietnam visa the last time. I wonder why I did that. And I googled and I saw that, yeah, the officers frequently asked for the paper copy of the paneling. So I would have never thought to do that. Wow. That's crazy. Who would? So anyway, so I did have that printed copy, which is good for checking, but they didn't ask for it this time at immigration.
Starting point is 00:32:19 and then after immigration, there's like a customs review where they scan everybody's bags, but the guy that was helping me through just said something to the agents and they waved us through. So didn't even have to get a bag scan just straight out to the curb to me to drive her and then take my included ride because I booked that all together, VIP Fast Track Service and transfer to the hotel. And that was actually pretty cheap. The short version of the long story is that after cash back and the expected cost, of a taxi anyway. I essentially paid an extra $23 to not have to wait at all at the airport, which was worth it to me because I only had 33 hours in Vietnam anyway. So if I could buy back an
Starting point is 00:33:00 hour for $23, I would take it. So did that, got to my hotel, checked in to a lovely hotel, the Paradox Grand Luxury Boutique Hotel in Hanoi, which is, if you Google the best hotels in Hanoi, this will come up in the list probably. It's a beautiful five-star hotel, right on the edge of the old quarter. Really, really nice lobby and entrance area. Super grand. Room is very nice. Also, I booked it through Capital One travel, and there's more information about that that's either out in a reel or coming out in a real or in my journal anyway, in terms of how I did it. I price match to get a better price, and I used the credit from that price match to book the property that I did in Guadalupe for my previous stay there. I booked that
Starting point is 00:33:45 stay second with some of the credit from the price match. Can I ask you, quick question. Are the beds comfortable there? You know, I wouldn't know. It looked really comfortable. It looks... You want to know what I'm missing. So anyway, checked in, crout my bags and headed
Starting point is 00:33:59 directly to a tailor because Vietnam is known for its custom tailored clothing market. Most of the influencers on YouTube go to Hoyan. But that, from what I've read, is super touristy and that Hanoi, what I've read is,
Starting point is 00:34:13 tends to have a higher quality market for that stuff because it's mostly business people, diplomats and things like that. obviously tourists as well, but not as many coming here for the tailors. So there were many tailors here taking tailors in a few days and as few as 48 hours in some places. And I just wanted to get a skirt coat made so that when we all meet up for the Chicago Travel Points Festival in a couple of weeks, I got something new to wear. So I went to go see if I could get a custom blazer tailored in 24 hours. I had connected with a couple of tailors online and WhatsApp before I got him to figure out who could do it in that time frame because it was a really short period of time.
Starting point is 00:34:55 And I ended up going to two different tailors. And I was pretty happy with one. And he took my measurements and everything. And he told me to come back in two and a half hours for a first fitting. And I was like two and a half hours. I picked out the fabric. It was just like a roll of fabric. And he measured me.
Starting point is 00:35:13 But two and a half hours later, not even. Two hours and 15 minutes later, I showed up and he had a basted thing. He had put together, like he'd cut him ready and half-stitched it, you know, in order to check all the dimensions, make sure everything was long enough and this and that. And he will have it done before I leave Vietnam, he says. So in 24 hours time or so, I'll have gotten a custom-made jacket for a very reasonable place for that sort of thing. So that was really exciting about that, but I went from there to a mission. Michelin Bib Gorman food tour where we visited several different Michelin Bib Gorman recognized places before we went for fah and bunchaa and eel soup.
Starting point is 00:35:56 I was my favorite, but the other two were in Vietnamese coffee. So that was something had a lot of fun with that. And then I just walked around for a bit at night because my goodness, Hanoi is a lively place. If you've never been, it's a place that maybe isn't for everyone, I guess, but it's a place that I am loving. It's like you wouldn't believe if you haven't been here before. Crossing the street is an adventure because there are no traffic lights. You just walk and hope that everyone drives around you. But I love the chaos.
Starting point is 00:36:28 There's something about it that just really appeals to me. So it was a lot of fun walking around and taking some videos of that last night. And then that kind of brings you, I think, up to where I am in my journal entry. And I've done a little bit since then, a little bit early this morning. I took a little adventure. and I have a bunch laid out for the rest of the day to day. All right. And what are you most confident about in all of that?
Starting point is 00:36:51 Well, I mean, since I'm just free card, my business class flight on Swiss looks really good on paper now because the surcharges aren't counting against me. Though in real life, there are those surcharges. And so it's tough for me to get super excited about that. I think that the tailored jacket is going to be a really cool outcome and something that I, like a really cool souvenir to have from this. and to bring with me to frequent Myler stuff in the future. So I'm particularly excited about that. So I think that's cool whether or not the judges do. And so when you ask me the sort of low light
Starting point is 00:37:26 or the thing I'm nervous about the second, it's going to be very similar. But my activities here in Vietnam, I'm not excited about it all along. And so whether or not they score high, I don't know. But this is the destination about which I was most excited at the beginning. and that hasn't changed since I got here. So overall, I'm pretty excited about the way that things are coming together in Vietnam.
Starting point is 00:37:50 Yeah, I mean, when you sent to your itinerary before, like, before you set off on the trip, like the tailor jacket and stuff like that in Vietnam was the bit that I was most excited about because it's such a unique activity that's completely unlike any of the kind of stuff that we've done on the challenge before. But it's like a really good tip for anyone who's planning on visiting Vietnam, that if you're into like that kind of fashion or that kind of like custom clothing, it's a super cheap way of getting it done that people may not necessarily have being aware of before. So I'm really looking forward to the outcome of that. So since it's a custom tailor,
Starting point is 00:38:26 does Nick have to count, Nick should not have to count the cash that he spent on the suit jacket towards his cash total, right? Because it's technically a surcharge. It's a surcharge. It's a tailoring fee. He should just be charged for the fabric. Watch out.
Starting point is 00:38:42 Tim's coming for your job. Cliver. So that's the part that I'll jump ahead that I most noticed about the judges swinging me low for wallet friendliness on this section of the trip. Because while it's way cheaper to do that here than it is in the United States, it's still not like dirt cheap to get the jacket made here. So it's less wallet friendly perhaps than the things that Tim and Greggard are doing. And I did think about doing like a free walking tour here in Hanoi, for instance, because I know Greg had done one of those already.
Starting point is 00:39:15 And I thought that could be fun and interesting because it is something you can do in so many places. But then I realized that for just $29, I could get a like this Michelin Bibb Gorman tour that would get me the food and the tour guide for such a low cost that that seemed worth it to me. Whether or not the judges will agree, I don't know. and a couple of the activities I have lined up today at least one of them is it's not exactly cheap I feel like it's a good value for what I'm going to do but I'm a little bit nervous
Starting point is 00:39:46 that the judges may score me low on wallet friendliness on this portion of the trip but I'm okay if nothing else you should definitely like get 10 out of 10 for luxury by the sounds of it so I mean I guess we'll see what the jacket looks on you pressure we'll withhold judgment and scoring on that for now but yeah If there's a giant FM patch sewn into the back of his jacket,
Starting point is 00:40:10 then he should definitely get bonus points for it. True, true. If it looks really good with the bucket hat, then, you know, like, extra, extra bonus points. Yeah. But after you have Duke of call this morning. So as an aside, and this is a quick, this is sort of a spoiler for the post that's going to be coming out in about an hour, hour and a half or something whenever I finish it,
Starting point is 00:40:29 is I was actually originally supposed to fly to Hanoi tomorrow. The original ticket that I booked was to Hanoi. I actually have a Vietnam visa, which is sort of why I was following Nick was sort of sweating how long it took him for his to get his visa. And I was sweating at the same time. So Nick was sort of my canary in a coal mine. But I am, that's, I was actually kind of bummed. How it ended up working out is better. But I was really bummed to give up Hanoi as a destination. Because as I was looking into it, I was like, oh, that looks really fun. I was really excited to go and spend some time in Hanoi. But alas.
Starting point is 00:41:02 Well, speaking of, why don't we now go to your summary, I'd love to hear what you did between your last check-in-in-in-up. I think you already know what I did, Carrie. You have hours and hours of video. I only know half of what you did. I still have more footage to process. Yeah. So. Before, as an aside or is an asterisk after the last one in the line, our last live stream,
Starting point is 00:41:26 I casually mentioned that I've been hit by a semi in Costa Rica in my car. That sounded dramatic. It wasn't quite as dramatic as a dramatic. it was. It was in traffic. And it was like, we're going 10 miles an hour or whatever. And I think that he probably fell asleep or wasn't paying attention or whatever. And he just sort of like cracked into my rear passenger side like quarter panel there and scuffed it up. But the funny thing about it is I'm like, oh, crap, you know, I get out. And I'm thinking, you know, now I'm going to have to negotiate this in Spanish and call the police and talk to police in Spanish and all this sort of stuff.
Starting point is 00:42:00 I start talking to the guy, and the guy's like, he's telling me that, you know, somehow I was, it was my fault because I was in front of him. But then about halfway through, like after a little business, I asked him for his insurance and he won't give me an insurance. I probably didn't have any insurance. I have no idea. And about halfway through it clicks with me. I have full coverage. What am I doing? So I just said, okay, goodbye. I took a picture of his license plate and drove off. And it was so cool. When I returned the car, like, they said, okay, here's a deal. I had a little bit of an accident. And they said, do you have a police report? And I said, no, the guy wouldn't give me his information. And I didn't. And the guy looks, he said, like, oh, you have full coverage. That's
Starting point is 00:42:38 fine. You have the keys? Did you fill it up? And I'm like, well, do you want this picture of a guy's license plate? And they're like, no need. You know, our insurance company will pay for that. So we're not even, we won't do anything with it. And I actually called my wife afterwards. And I said, I've never paid for full coverage on a car before. I mean, actually, actually I have, but very rarely. I was like, this is so incredible. Like it was so lazy.
Starting point is 00:43:03 Why did you this time? I've had, well, actually you had to have hurts. They won't rent to a car without it. In certain countries, I know that's true. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:11 Yeah. And I would have anybody for the day, just knowing what I was doing. Maybe it's because of that truck driver. Yeah. But anyway, so all that to say, it wasn't,
Starting point is 00:43:20 it was not a serious accident at all. Everything was fine. It didn't really even inconvenienced me and actually it was a lot of fun because I just got to leave a dented car with the people. and like bye and not have to call my credit card company and do the whole. Excellent cryptic cliffhanger.
Starting point is 00:43:35 Yeah, totally. But so let's see. Last time I was in L.A., so I got to L.A. from Costa Rica, I flew Avianca business class. The exact same, the return flight of the version that I did on the way there. It was actually funny. For whatever reason, Avianca sells this ticket as a direct. Like they sell it as a L.A.X to San Jose and San Jose to L.A.X. but each way it stops in Guatemala City.
Starting point is 00:43:59 And I didn't think anything of it, but interesting little aside, on the way back that we actually left the plane and got out and had to transit over to another gate in Guatemala City. And so I thought I'd go check out the Copa Lounge because I had access to it because I was on a business class Avianka ticket. And I couldn't get into the lounge because Guatemala City wasn't listed as the destination on any of my stuff or as an originating airport. it. And so because they were really apologetic. They're like, I'm sorry. We understand. And I didn't make a big deal of it. You know, it's like whatever, but, but it was, I would have never thought that
Starting point is 00:44:33 would be an issue. But so interesting. But then I really wanted to figure out a way because I have a part of, in part of this trip as a whole, Greg inspired me because he was talking about how great my credits were on the Sapphire Reserve. So I wanted to figure out a way to maximize those or as much as possible. The problem was most of the like the dining credit, the stuff. the lift credit, all that stuff. They're only good in the U.S. So I was hoping to have enough of a layover, either get to L.A. early enough on the front end to use those
Starting point is 00:45:03 or have enough of a layover in the middle to be able to use those credits. And as it happened, I was able to use them. I had a 10-hour layover in L.A. on the way back. So I had plenty of time to use them. Unfortunately, what I figured out is that Avianca, when they have an 11 p.m. flight, they don't open the check-in counter at noon, weirdly enough. So when I went up to recheck my bag in, there was no place to give my bag to. And for years now, and I think it was even probably close, it was probably soon after 9-11.
Starting point is 00:45:41 LAX doesn't have any left luggage facilities in the airport because of concerns of, you know, nefarious activity. And I've noticed in the past that there are these services off airport that you can leave a bag with. So I had thought this might be an issue. So I researched them a little bit beforehand and ended up using this thing called stasher, where I got on. I said where I was and put the length of time and they gave me a facility that was sometimes their hotels. Sometimes there, you know, there's various things that agree to be a part of this. This was actually just like a locker facility. And then I was able to, nine hours was like $10, $9.50, just under $10 to store the bag there.
Starting point is 00:46:22 and then when I called my lift, I just added that as a stop on the way to my first ride and only added a couple dollars to my lift ride on the way there and a couple dollars in the way back. So good option if you're ever in that situation. Obviously, most of us won't be because we're probably not transiting through LAX internationally. But for those who do it, it's super easy to do. If I can hop in on you for a second, Tim. I think that's a great tip not only for people going through LAX, but I mean, I've run into situations before traveling abroad. Yeah, where I've, you know, like had a late train leaving a city in Europe and I didn't want to go all the way back to the hotel and have used services like that online services to find like a restaurant where you can leave the bag. Sometimes it's all sorts of different things.
Starting point is 00:47:05 So it's a great. And there's a, and I did link to three different. And it's not just LAX. And to Nick's point, this is not this. These services are all over the place. And so anywhere, anywhere pretty much in the U.S. and many places abroad, there's one bounce stash or luggage hero. I linked to several in the post. But so it's a good, it's a good option.
Starting point is 00:47:25 So then there are 32 Chase Exclusive Tables restaurants in L.A. Unfortunately, only two of them are open for lunch. It should be Chase exclusive dinner at restaurants. But one was, there was two, neither of them were convenient to the airport at all. And there was one that I knew of the restaurant. I had been to it. It's called Petit Trois. They have two locations.
Starting point is 00:47:48 And the second, the first location is not on Chase Exclusive Table. as the second one is. So I went out, but it's ridiculous. It's in the valley, the San Fernando Valley. So it's like, there's like an hour from the airport and traffic to get there. But luckily, I had a not only lift credit from my Chase card, but also a $15 off code from a deal that chased it a while back where they targeted Southwest card holders, but it was actually popping up for Chass Sapphire Reserve cardholders as well.
Starting point is 00:48:17 As a post, I'll link to that in my description of it. So I had 25 bucks off. So my $50 Uber or lift ride became a $25 lift ride that I then covered the rest with my Sapphire Reserve Travel Credit and went to the restaurant and had a $124 lunch. And which didn't wasn't as much food as you might think of might be. It was a two bottles of San Pellegrino, a crudo appetizer and a filet mignon. And that was my $125. But it was delicious.
Starting point is 00:48:51 It was a lot of fun. The server seemed a little surprised that this unwashed guy in a t-shirt and the shorts came in and blew up. It's worth the $124. Just that moment. When she saw that I had been assigned to her section, I don't think she was thinking that was what was going to have for that to go to the live stream. It had actually terrific, a little coffee place right down the street. And then after the live stream, I still had a sub-up credit to blow. So when I had been looking for events that were in L.A. that night beforehand, I had seen that the Dodgers were playing the Padres, which is sort of their biggest rival.
Starting point is 00:49:29 They're right, because they're right close to each other and they're in the same division. And I thought, man, what a great opportunity. What a perfect L.A. evening thing to do is to go to the baseball game. And at that point, traffic was just as bad to get, it was about 15 minutes quicker to take an $80 lift or, 20, 15 minutes longer to take $1.75 combination of bus and metro. So I took the $1.75 combination of bus and metro. And I had actually not purchased my ticket. I was right before the live stream, I was looking at tickets because I was hoping that they would kind of, the H.A. Dodgers tickets are really expensive.
Starting point is 00:50:04 It's like the most, some of the most expensive. Those in the red socks are like the two most expensive tickets to get. And so I was sort of like looking at it to see if I could get it. It's prices would drop, a price of a drop. And then right before the live stream, a bunch of tickets that were behind home plate high up, but behind home plate drop down. So I was able to get the ticket for $151 or $1 after using my suburb credit. So I got a filet mignon, Hamachi lunch, followed by a Dodgers baseball game for a buck. That's wild.
Starting point is 00:50:37 That's great. I left the game. I'm not going to lie. I didn't stay until the end of the game. I don't really like the Dodgers. I just was soaking up the atmosphere and I didn't want to miss my flight. So I took a lift back to the airport and I did the same thing. It still had another $15 off code.
Starting point is 00:50:58 So that ended up costing me $35, which I reimbursed with my travel credit. And then I was flying Avianca business class to Korea from LAX. And traditionally, I would have gone back to the same star-line. Alliance business lounge that I visited on the way out on my Avianca ticket. However, Korean is buying, or has bought, has acquired Asiana's and is in the process of integrating them. So they've changed that now Asiana customers go to the Korean lounge, which is a lot of fun. So I got to go to the Korean lounge that I didn't even realize existed. If you would have asked me to does Korean have a Korean-specific business class and first-class lounge in LAX?
Starting point is 00:51:39 I wouldn't have known. But it was really cool. It was great. And compared to if anybody's ever been to that Star Alliance not that's cool, but man, it's like, it's like you're, I mean, they packed that thing. There are a lot of flights using that and it is just stuffed the gills. This one was much more chill. They had a great wine selection, great whiskey selection. They have a cool little patio that overlooks the, I've actually seen the balcony a bunch of times in that international terminal. It overlooks like the whole courtyard in there. It's just a really, really fun spot. Flew business class from Tokyo or from Korea to, or gosh, from, from L-A-X-S-Sole and slept for like seven beautiful hours.
Starting point is 00:52:19 That was another one where I was like, I was trying to stay up so I could get through dinner service and sleep a little bit later. And I was like nodding off in my Bibimbaugh, you know, like that. I got to Seoul at about 4 o'clock in the morning, probably one of my biggest splurges so far, I splurged on a $40 taxi ride to my hotel because at that early in the morning, the bus ride was going to take like over two hours. I was like, you know, I just don't. This is, this doesn't feel right or feel good to me.
Starting point is 00:52:49 So, but because this hotel and so I checked in, I'm staying at a court property that is a five-star lovely hotel, good location. It just happens to be for whatever reason. So again, Korean Harvest Festival going on right now. Whole town is is very booked up. This hotel is sold out. And when I was looking on Chase travel. that edit redemptions or edit possibilities, everything was like over $1,000 for two nights.
Starting point is 00:53:19 For whatever reason, this one hotel was $520 for two nights. And it was on a two cents per point point boost to use your ultimate rewards points for it. So take the 250 off from the edit credit, that's $270, then at two cents per point, two nights for 13,500 ultimate, or 13,000, I think it's like 13,400, something like. that. It ended up being about 6,700 points per night, which for this place, with breakfast and with dinner and the location, I was thrilled with. Unfortunately, because they were sold out, they couldn't actually let me check into my room until 1230, which is very early, but when it's, you know, four, six, eight, or five a.m., it doesn't feel that early. So I got some work done and then set out for activities. And sort of my, this time visiting soul, I love soul. I love soul.
Starting point is 00:54:14 great city. It's a lot of fun. It's super easy for English speakers to get around. But I kind of wanted to, since I'm here during this festival, I wanted to sort of take advantage of things that were, that would be only, you could only do during this festival. It would somehow be a part of what people are doing during this festival. And so one of the things is a bunch of all of the palaces here are free admission this weekend, as are many of the museums, attractions that are kind of managed by the government. I went to, in a matter of about four hours, I went to about five hours, three different palaces, saw the changing of the guards at the big palace. I think I'm saying that incorrectly.
Starting point is 00:54:55 It had two coffees. Got a delicious. If anybody's ever in Seoul, go to garlic boy, get their garlic buns, they're stuffed garlic buns. Oh my gosh, they're so good. Don't do it with a significant other because they're not going to let you close to them soon afterwards. They're so good. I went to this beautiful open air. It's a square that it's really cool.
Starting point is 00:55:18 The interior is a managed like a manicured lawn effectively in the middle of all these skyscrapers with a sculpture, like a bunch of different sculptures and go check out the sculptures. And then the outside are these managed patches of wildflowers. It's a really cool location, spent some time there. And then ended up when I was in the last palace, the Museum of Modern Art is in that palace. And I can't, this was not my planning. I just happened to notice this. And, you know, the rule in Seoul is if there's a line, it's probably good.
Starting point is 00:55:47 And I noticed that there was a building on the far side that there was a big, big line of people coming out and like, hey, listen, it turned out it was a museum of modern art. And they had free musicians, or musicians admission as well. And there's a, it was a huge retrospective of this, a modern artist, green modern artist named Li Dawan, who I actually have seen before and really liked, but I've only seen like, you know, one painting in a Western museum. This was like a whole retrospective of his work.
Starting point is 00:56:13 It was packed to the gills with people, but it was so cool. It was a lot of fun to check out. Then came back to the hotel, chilled out for a little bit, took time, took a shower finally. And then headed back out to a, in the evening, there's a traditional village. They call them Hanak villages where they're like traditional houses, traditional Korean houses, and they kind of do like different types of traditional crafts and artisanal things there. and they were having a big Trisiach Festival. So I went there, saw some performances of Korean folk music that was not to my year,
Starting point is 00:56:49 but interesting to hear. A lot of people were into it and clapping along. Really cute. All the craft things they would do. And I was going to do this for my kids mini challenge, but I felt weird taping the kids or like videoing the kids. So I just kind of watch it. But it was really cool.
Starting point is 00:57:07 I could bring the kids up. And then the kids all are doing crafts and all these traditional houses. And they come in and they make these things that they can then take away from them, like teddy bears and all these sorts of things. It's really fun. Had a sausage and rice cake, a carnival food kind of thing off of at the front. It was a lot of fun. Then took the bus up to the top of Namsun Mountain, which is like the big mountain in the center of Seoul where Seoul Tower is. If you've ever seen a big huge, like, kind of spire-looking building, that's, that's a Soul Tower.
Starting point is 00:57:37 watched the sunset from up there. And really quick tip, there is a, if you go to Soul Tower, there's a great view and there's a great view from below Soul Tower of the non-sonset side of the hill. However, right at the top of the cable car that goes up there, there's a little cafe that's like the only place that you can see a, the sunset from a non-soul Tower place. It's really weird. Nobody, like I went there that's like two people here. I mean, super crowd.
Starting point is 00:58:07 Like there's people everywhere. Nobody in this place. And like a beer was, a draft beer was six bucks or seven bucks or something like that. And so I watched the sunset from up there. It was a beautiful setting and then it kind of got gradually got filled up. So just quick tip if you're ever in Seoul and you want to like see a place with a great view to hang out a little bit with a great view of the city and the sunset stuff. The cafe right at the top of the cable car is the way to go. Lastly, yesterday and this is this is all now, this is spoiling a little bit because the Instagram stuff.
Starting point is 00:58:37 It hasn't come out yet. So the big thing of Chisioch, it's a harvest festival. So it happens during the full moon. So there's a lot of stuff that's moon themed and full moon theme. Well, it turns out they actually, one of the popular things that people do, they actually have a huge, like, hot air balloon looking thing, except it's not hot air. It's helium. So it's this huge balloon that is filled with helium and it's tethered,
Starting point is 00:59:06 to the ground and it, when they raise it by just bringing the tether up and then the whole thing goes up and it goes up about 200 feet. That's scary. And it looks like the moon. It's really bizarre because it's kind of in it,
Starting point is 00:59:21 and it's not right in the center of soul, it's kind of off to the side. And so it's very quiet when you go around there and it doesn't make any noise. So all of a sudden you just like look up and there's this huge moon-looking thing hanging in the sky. Somehow I've never made it to the moon.
Starting point is 00:59:36 Yeah, totally. But so I never, I've never been on a hot air balloon. Still technically haven't. But I have now been on a cold air balloon. So did that, I had to wait a little bit because, you know, there's a huge line to get in. It took him around an hour and I had about an hour and a half weight. So I went and had like a street food dinner and then came back and went up in the big huge moon dirigible. And it was, it was blast.
Starting point is 01:00:02 It was a lot of fun. I would have never expected that that even existed. it anywhere. I've never seen such a thing, but it was a lot of fun. And the whole end of... Where can I find a moon, moon ride? Yeah. Yeah, totally. For those people that are looking for a moon derigible. But into the, and bizarrely, it's like 18 bucks. Like, I mean, this is like the...
Starting point is 01:00:22 So Tim, does it look like a full moon or like... Yes, no, full moon? Because that's the whole thing. Yeah, so it's a big globe. Yeah. Yeah. And that's, and actually what was really cool is because, the festival happens during the full moon. There was one point we were up there
Starting point is 01:00:41 and all the skyscrapers of Gondom were right there. And then I look over and I actually took a picture of this guy with his girlfriend, so I'm like, you guys want this picture. There was a, the full moon was right over the top. So you could like see the full moon divisible, the full moon on the side. Oh, that's cool.
Starting point is 01:00:58 It was really cool. I expect that to be in your photo dump. Yeah, yeah, you'll get to it eventually. But so that was it. And then I came back and fell asleep while I was sending video to carry. Oh, man. It'd be nice to fall in asleep, too. So that's a lot of variety.
Starting point is 01:01:16 So which piece are you most confident about in all of that? It's a lot to choose from. Yeah, you know, I think there's, I think it's a lot of, I mean, I think I'm confident. I'm pretty, I mean, I don't know confident is the way. I'm not even sure. Like, I like, I'll do the incompetent thing. I don't know how, I don't know how to gauge luxury. with activities. I'm not really sure what that even looks like or means. I don't know if this is
Starting point is 01:01:40 luxurious or not. So that's probably what I'm least confident is. I don't know. Same. Stephen and I have a very hard time with that also. I don't even, I just don't even know. You're not climbing 706 steps off a giant box. Yeah, that's the bar to beat 708 stairs. Yeah. But everything else, I mean, I mean, just in terms of what I set out to do personally, like I like the way I think there's a lot of variety there that it's very genuinely location specific up to this point I've spent like less than $200 out of pocket so I think the budget the budget element has to be up there as a piece of confidence what about the low light oh I just to say it's a and just because I'm not I and that's it's hard to and I've been you know like riding around buses and
Starting point is 01:02:31 you know, going to free museum. So I don't know if that's luxury or not. I don't think it is, but. That seems like a luxury potentially, right? I mean. Yeah, totally. Totally. I mean, an experience that would normally be paid for that you get to get in for free? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:02:48 What's funny. Ironically, because of Nixon, and I had no idea. I love your Taylor, the idea of going to the Taylor. I almost, so there's a big thing here in Korea where you can go and get, gosh, I can't remember how it's like, there's a name for it.
Starting point is 01:03:02 You can go and get outfitted into traditional Korean things, and you go and you get your picture taken. And all of the museums normally and all the palaces, offer free admission if you're in that garb. Tim, you shouldn't have told us that. So I was totally, I was thinking about, you know, it would be really funny is to actually go and do this and then get a whole photo shoot and do this.
Starting point is 01:03:31 but they every place it did it was book solid because everybody was doing it. Well, you could go to Hanoi have your own suit made and then Quebec. Or maybe that's the way to do it. I will see. It was tough in the timeline that we're on because I mean, there's lots of, there's tons of tailors, but getting one that could turn it around in the amount of time that we have. Like if I had three days,
Starting point is 01:03:55 I would have been spoiled for choice. But yeah, so I imagine that that's what also, you know like you're damn it's so tough you're looking if you got a huge festival going on right and you're not there very long yeah no totally that's one of those things where you don't realize you needed to make a reservation until you realize that you needed to make a reservation there's accidentally a festival yeah uh i don't know these all sound like great trips um in the uh i forgot to ask you all please like this video if any part of these itineraries excited you like this, subscribe. And don't forget, Wednesday at 9 a.m. is our final check-in where we will be revealing scores for everyone, and we will crown a winner.
Starting point is 01:04:40 I can't believe we're already that close, getting close to the final check-in. Again, that's Wednesday, 9 a.m. Eastern time. So it is not Wednesday 9 a.m. for any of these guys. but for all of you at the East Coast, Wednesday 9 a.m. for you. I think that's it. Unless, Stephen, do you have any wrap-up thoughts to add there? I don't think I do. I'm looking forward to trying to work out what the scoring is going to be. I know. It's going to be really hard. At this rate, it's going to be even harder than it was for Destination 1.
Starting point is 01:05:12 And so we might end up relying on readers to adjust our own thoughts. But we'll see how it goes. I'm just going to warn you. Whitney and retainer. Watch out. We'll just start contracting with her on that. But readers and listeners be on standby. We will need your help for this. I'm sure we'll be posting another post.
