Starting point is 00:00:00 All right, boys, we got a UFC Fight Week special pod for you boys today. Before we get into it, this episode is sponsored by prize picks. So boys, you guys are probably like me. You love firing on sports. Trust me, I've tried every single app to fire on sports. Prize fix is by far the best app, in my opinion, because it's so different and it's so fun. The reason I love it is because instead of choosing teams, you're choosing individual players. So each player has a set projection.
Starting point is 00:00:25 And then it's your choice you have to go more or less than that set projection. So, if you're smart with sports, if you know what players are going to perform on a certain night, you've got to try out prize picks. Trust me, try it out. And use this code, code Nelk. It's a 100% deposit bonus for first-time user. So it's your first time trying prize picks. Plug in this code Nelk.
Starting point is 00:00:43 They got the UFC fights this weekend. So try it out for UFC this weekend. We've got the Islam versus Volk fight. We got the Uzman versus Hamzaf fight. Get your picks out on prize picks and comment actually what your picks are, because I'm trying to lock in some, honestly, too. Prize picks is available in 70%. under the United States, boys, California, Texas, Florida.
Starting point is 00:01:01 Download the app, use code nelk. Let's get into this fight week's special pod. I'm still the most entertaining fighter that's ever stepped in that octagon, and I think I will go down as that. What's up, guys? Justin, the highlight Gathe here. Current BMF title holder, soon to be undisputed, 155-pound champ. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:01:28 After fights, I take three or four weeks and really kind of rest my body, rest my mind, and really kind of get rejuvenated to really get back in there and work as hard as I need to. But, you know, outside of that, I like to play golf as much as possible. And I'm just getting my backyard done. So I'm super excited about this Happy Dad partnership so I can host my friends and family and have some drinks on some ice. It's official, Justin the Highlight Gae and Happy Dad Seltzer in the Sanchez. same camp, ready to defend this belt
Starting point is 00:02:00 as the baddest motherfucking seltzer in the world. Let's go. What's up, boys? Ooh, a little backdrop? Dial-in, guys, trust me. What a fucking crazy episode of the pod we got. UFC Abu Dhabi special. I don't know how we're able to do this.
Starting point is 00:02:15 We're so fucking grateful, but we're going to have three people from the fight coming on right now. Homzaat's coming in. Volk's coming in and Usman's coming in. I think Gachie's going to be guest hosting the pod with us as well. You guys saw on social media we announced
Starting point is 00:02:30 He's officially part of Team Happy Dad as well So we're gonna have him on Have a good time And yeah Islam couldn't make it Because I think he's really trying to cut weight So it would have been sick to have Islam on But we're gonna have the other three on It's gonna be an epic-ass episode
Starting point is 00:02:44 Drop a thumbs up boys If you guys want to see more of these like fight week type pods We're fucking fired up for this card I know you boys are too Last minute changes Fired up for the card Yes Got calms out who's one
Starting point is 00:02:55 Folk Islam Very excited And we're filming a Nelke video that'll probably be out not this monday but the monday after right oh yeah so yeah no video coming as well all right we're gonna get into this pod crazy ass pod we got volt coming in first what is uh let's everyone right now too comment your predictions pause the video type your comments i want to see you guys predictions for this fight because um dude we're so fucking excited for this card obviously you guys seeing all the last minute
Starting point is 00:03:24 changes we're just bro like like i said just Just being able to be here and to be at this event. And we just got to Abu Dhabi today, walking in the hotel. We already seen Islam. Gai Chi. Al-Ji. Al-Jo. Bilal Mohammed. We've seen Bilal.
Starting point is 00:03:41 It's just crazy energy, man. This event's going to be fucking crazy. Every time in Abu Dhabi we come here, it's so funny. Or it's so fun. So shout out to Abu Dhabi. What's your predictions for the two main fights? I got Islam winning the main event. And then I got, man, I'm going to go with Kamsat.
Starting point is 00:04:04 But if I were to put my money on it, I would have to say, I'll pick Uzman, of course. Yeah, boys. Also, I'm going to be looking out in the comments. Drop some juicy parlays in there and shit, because I'm trying to see, I'm going to try to get some action on this shit. I don't know, man. I just find these fights now are so hard to predict. Yeah, of course. It's a fight game.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Well, you never know what's going to happen. I think ever since the Leon Edwards-Kamara Usman headkick, everything just went crazy after that. Yeah, that was like, like, and then Sean Strickland, Izzy, like, after it happens, then everyone's like, but dude, no one thought. No one thought Sean Strickland would be Izzy. The distance and everything. So now it's just, oh, they're just so hard to predict, man. I guess that's what makes it so fucking dope to watch. Islam Volk, I'll say, I mean, I'd say Islam is going to win, but it's just so hard to predict, bro.
Starting point is 00:04:52 It's just like the super fucking. It's really who's just going to show up a little bit better on that night. think now at this like level everyone could have an off night so you never know but both a game i just find it crazy that and we'll talk to volk too but like obviously just accepting a fight on 10 days notice like what a fucking risk like what a risk to accept a fight on 10 days notice i mean it's right nowski man he's you know i don't he hasn't lost in uc besides Islam so what did you think of the Dylan Dennis Logan Paul
Starting point is 00:05:27 KSI Tommy Fury um we watched it in the club we were fucking hammered I watched it because it's you know the buildup but as a boxing you know thing what's up yo what's up bro
Starting point is 00:05:45 a couple of these aren't fairs too I how are you good here we'll get you right here I'm there I'm there I'm there We got Volcanowski in the building. We're live, we're live. We just go for it. Appreciate you coming through, bro.
Starting point is 00:05:59 We appreciate it. I know it's, I know it's like, it must be like a hectic-ass day for you. I always admire, like, how do you guys even do all this media with all this weight cutting and stuff? I mean, I don't mind, to be honest. I just, it's all a part of the process, right? Yeah. It lets me know that I'm fighting. So, which I need, right?
Starting point is 00:06:14 I do all got this 12 days notice. So at least this is some familiar sort of fight sort of weak stuff, right? Because if I didn't have that, then I literally would feel like, am I really fighting? Now it feels like I'm fighting because I'm doing the water loading. I'm doing all the media obligations. But I mean, I'm always, yeah, I'm always happy. We had you on last time we were in Abu Dhabi too.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Yeah, exactly. You're backup, right, for Oliver and Islam. Yeah, exactly, yeah. So, yeah, so I don't know if Easy Alam is going to be as upbeat as I am five week, but, I mean, a lot of people aren't. Islam flopped on the pod too, so we might be converting now. He did, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:51 Oh, well, okay. How did you go? I don't know. he's not showing up today we're we're having you we got hamza and usman oh so he's not you said yeah he's not no no no no okay now but i mean like obviously you know he's got a he's a big big dude so he's got a lot of them like that myself even when i go for featherweight i do cut a lot but i still don't mind the process i don't know why like i'm usually pretty upbeat the content on your youtube channel by the way has been it's been fire there's a couple of
Starting point is 00:07:16 shout out so i appreciate that makes you guys we'll put the link in the description makes you guys go check out the videos are you uploading like every day up until the place We should because it is doing well. So we were trying to be active. We had a boy up all night. I don't think he's slept the wink because he had to do editing. He's filming all day and then editing all night. Grindr.
Starting point is 00:07:36 So, yeah, we might have to get someone else onto the editing. So we can just, you know, get it all happen so the man can sleep. But, I mean, it's all happening. But, I mean, you're going to take advantage of it. You guys would know, you know how it is. So, yeah, it's pretty cool. You predicted kind of that this would happen, right? I remember after the last fight, you said, like, Islam, you deserve one in Abu Dhabi.
Starting point is 00:07:57 Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Like, you know what I mean? Obviously, he come over enemy territory and, you know, all that stuff. Like, the traveling for fights, we do it. I do it every single time. But he literally went to my home, you know, to went to Australia. So, yeah, and that's why I'm like, your rematch, huh, in Abu Dhabi, you know, that's fair.
Starting point is 00:08:18 You know what I mean? That's fair. Now he gets it. Yeah, on 12 days, it's a crazy turn of events. But, I'm, mate, I'm excited. I'm buzzing. What, I knew you've probably been asked us to you, but what were you doing when you got the call?
Starting point is 00:08:32 I was at home. I think we were in there because we're organizing, because I was going to come as a guest. So I know. Oh, so you were already coming regardless. Yes, I was coming as just as a guest. So I was, you know, we'll just try to organize because I was going to even maybe go to the Tyson Fury and the gun who fired.
Starting point is 00:08:46 So we're in the process of organizing all that. and then I was just at home with the family with the bubs a good newborn she's like six weeks old oh congratulations yeah yeah so um there so I was like yeah I think I was just chilling with them and then in between calls me my manager and then he calls me back I'm thinking it's gonna be about some new plans that we're doing
Starting point is 00:09:04 because wait so who called you my manager ash somewhere here and he's like ain't gonna believe it and I didn't know what he was talking about I'm like oh what like I'm thinking it's got to do with you know me coming over or for something completely something else he goes doesn't like Charles is going to make it something's going wrong
Starting point is 00:09:22 like I actually he first said he goes I don't expect you to do this but I got to tell you it's a part of my job things out is like what do you reckon I'm like because I think he was just expecting me to go man like you know no way and I'm like I don't know man like I mean like you know
Starting point is 00:09:40 obviously it's an opportunity obviously he's and then it was just pretty much let me talk to Joe because I was like, I was on board, but I had to obviously talk to Joe, my wife. My wife had a smile on the face straight away. Joe was all good with it. Rang back Ash and just said, yeah, everyone's on board. Let's do it.
Starting point is 00:09:59 So, yeah, it was like I go, you do your part. I'll call up the boys and get the guys that, like Craig and Frank, they were literally on the next flight over from, you know, Austin and Thailand, and then had all my teammates at freestyle fighting gym who were literally a couple hours after I got the phone call at the gym. putting me full fights in me later you did say it's crazy like that oh it's wild i can't believe that bro i mean just like yeah as a fan like seeing that like how it happened online and stuff it's just like so much respect to you bro and just like to yeah 10 days like it's just wild
Starting point is 00:10:32 but didn't have to wait like i didn't have to wait long for the announcement was literally found out did a session the next day was a announced didn't you just get surgery too i've got surgery in the elbow after my last one so that was uh probably what three months ago my daughter of surgery yeah yeah so i got a maybe three months ago so uh i've been training for a while obviously i was training even with that like i was trying to do whatever i could you know i'm always uh you're doing strength and conditioning um fucking just punching a shit lad with my right hand like you know what i mean do hidden pads like that uh then uh as soon as i was able to start doing more i was in there and slowly building up so i've been able to spar for the last four five weeks i like
Starting point is 00:11:08 i like what you said though you said that it's kind of like high risk high reward yeah you know like if you get this done now too it's fucking, I mean, it's unbelievable. My people are thinking, you're nuts, right? But the fact that they're thinking that it just shows you how big it is when you get the job done, right? So it's like, that's how I look at it. A lot of people look at things of what could go wrong and this and that and that. It's like, I've accepted that, all that.
Starting point is 00:11:32 This is what could happen. And that excites me. That last fight was so close, man. Hey? The last fight was so close. Yeah, it was. All right, I got to. Well, I think it's on one, but.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Yeah, yeah. I watch, I figure I end up seeing the, like, you guys, you just looked nervous, though. Huh? You just look nervous. Nervous for what? I went with a decision. I remember you just sitting there. I was watching, use her, like, I seen it, because I seen a few of them.
Starting point is 00:11:53 And use it like that. I was pretty scared in the fifth round. I was pretty scared when you were, like, grounding and pounding. Okay. I was pretty damn scared. That was one of the best fights ever. Yeah, it was fun, man. It was very exciting fight.
Starting point is 00:12:05 I learned a lot from that as well. And just so you know, I'm like, I'm all good with, obviously, you know, taking the piss. We can have a laugh about you. Yeah. My mom would be good with that. But yeah, it's a, yeah, it's, it was an incredible fight. Well, we went to Dagestan to film a video.
Starting point is 00:12:20 Yeah, yeah, yeah, that was before that, that was before that fight. Okay, yeah. We did it on our YouTube channel. What's the like over there? Dude, it's pretty, I mean, it's different. It's different for sure. If we weren't with them, like every time we were driving, like government would stop us and be like U.S. passports. You would have been, like, all Americans.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Okay. So if we weren't with them, we would have been. It would be able to be. Hold is hell out there. Hey, it was in the mountains. So, like, coal is. cold. Yeah. It was just intense, man. Yeah. Very intense. Yeah, because I've seen some of the, that 40. I don't know if it was on embedded or your own stuff. But I've seen some of that.
Starting point is 00:12:54 Yeah. Yeah. We'll come to Australia too. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. I mean, like, you know, once I go double champ, you're just going to have to jump ship, just come to Australia and then you're going to be Team Volk? How many times have you watched that fight? You know, this guy will invite like a chickover. His favorite thing to do, I'll watch you and I'll just get there. He'll invite a chick over and he'll put on Islam and bulk the oh really yeah such a good fight man dude i'm sorry i'm no no it's good man how many times how many times probably like 15 times really yeah watch a show man i feel like he's fascinated by that fight i mean a lot of people i mean that's that's that's we would both be proud of that
Starting point is 00:13:30 like it's a you know it's a we literally was number one versus number two pound for pound and it ended up uh it lived up to the hype you know it was all yeah like it was that it was a big fight it really was and this rivalry is what it's going to be about right exactly right this is fucking sad it is yeah like and the way it turned out i mean obviously you're going to get some people like oh you know would have been better if they're both properly uh prepared for each other but i mean let's be real it's it's put a lot of hype the fact that's well told them what the fuck you know we're allowed to swear yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah thought so um you know like and everybody everyone's buzzing because of that everyone's like you know so it's sort of added a little bit
Starting point is 00:14:05 more you know obviously when you get down to you know the rule mma fans are going yeah would like to see it with alex having a full camp or whatnot but i think the hype is uh there's more hype now because of the short notes And now I'm just thinking too I just realized I totally remember all the back To the buildup for the first fight It was more you defending saying like I'm gonna shock the world
Starting point is 00:14:25 Like you were way more of an underdog Isn't it interesting now how it's like For me now watching it's kind of like You have no idea what's gonna have Yeah exactly right Back then it was like Volk doesn't have a shot And you kind of really switch that narrative
Starting point is 00:14:39 now this time around Well 100% obviously then you go Oh but then the preparation which is a surprise. I thought a lot of people are still, I guess they just know what I'm all about. They're like, I don't care if Alex literally had one day notice. Like, we know he's turning up.
Starting point is 00:14:53 I think people are just starting to understand that now with me. But I mean, obviously, I was thinking about it. I remember thinking about it, this would have been only a couple of weeks ago, not even, maybe last week before the corner. I remember thinking about the fight. I'm like, man, I'm not going to get that moment. Like you said, you know,
Starting point is 00:15:12 like he doesn't stand a chance like you know what i mean and things like that and then i thought i did it i thought i did enough and i thought i had that moment i'm like i'm not going to get that moment because next time we fight people are going to yeah of course people can expect me to win look how competitive that last fight was yeah yeah yeah so it's not going to be like but now 12-day notice and you know so a lot of people like oh no so there's still this still though you never know so i'm still going to be the underdog and all that so i still get to sort of have that moment you know what i mean like imagine going out there 12 day notice and boof, not going to clean out.
Starting point is 00:15:43 It wasn't exactly what I plan on doing. You know what I mean? Now I still get that fairytale ending that I wanted in February. I can still get that now because of how it all turned out. You'd think you'll stay at like 155 if you were to win this? I mean, there's so many big fights there. I want to stay busy and I want to keep a lot. I don't know if you said.
Starting point is 00:15:59 The rumor was Toronto. I'm from Toronto too. Oh, there you go. So I'll probably see you there. But I mean, we got some stats. So like, you know, because one thing that the UFC don't want me to do is hold up two divisions. And I understand that. but so uh the last over a year um i've been ready to fight i have fought and been ready to fight
Starting point is 00:16:21 every lightweight and furtherweight fight that's been there i think over over a year so uh so you've always been like the backup yeah so like yeah well uh i have a fought because i fought islam last and then i was there last time for a backup so i made weight too 80 yeah remember so i made weight uh you always ready to go i know i had the feather weight before that uh so yeah so i was there i'm going to be here for the free featherweight um free lightweight fights i've been a part of uh free lightweight fights and i've been a part of the last uh free featherweight fight or obviously more so to say that i can't keep two divisions busy i've literally being the guy here to fight for the over a year now so you're telling me i can't do it i literally
Starting point is 00:17:06 proved that so the only fight that i wasn't involved i was still here to make weight and still turned up to fight how do you do that do you just like compared to other fighters like why can't other fighters do that are you just always staying like in shape or is it more about you don't cut as much weight or like how does that work um oh no i still okay i mean i'm just a try you know i'm just yeah i'm just a professional i think of the active i got a bit of the inspiration to to be so active from israel at asan who's obviously was just doing that i thought how good this and then that sort of got me on this path and and then i realize how mentally better i am like when i don't have a fight
Starting point is 00:17:41 schedule especially because man i'm in my my prime right now right like so every day i'm not in camp is a day wasted in my prime so that stresses me out a little bit because right now my main person is family but it is fighting so when i'm not doing that i feel like you know i'm not i'm not ticking all the goals that i should be once my career is done you know uh now i'm hoping right like that i can just flip all that purpose uh that that energy and purpose to just a family and and and things like that because it gets hard in between fights when I'm not to, like, so I was starting to do my head in a bit when I thought I had to wait until January.
Starting point is 00:18:16 So I was like, you know, almost struggling a little bit. Where as soon as I got the, the, this call-up. So, like, mentally, like, struggling? No, just mentally, I think it was just, I don't know, just started, yeah, I don't know what it is, you know, I don't want to get too much into it, but, um, yeah, like, don't get me wrong. You like to stay active.
Starting point is 00:18:31 I need to, I think it's just so much, again, I feel like I'm not, I'm not doing what I meant to. I'm in my prime, like, you know, I feel like, so I'm not taking advantage of me being to my prime, and that was, I think that gets to me. I feel like, I feel like, again, like a, I want to have purpose in my every day. I want to have purpose in my life. Obviously, my family is that, right? But right now, a big part of my purpose in life is fighting and looking after my family.
Starting point is 00:18:56 So, and I'm in my prime, so that is a big, that has to take a lot of my energy. And when I'm not putting it into the fire caps and all that, I don't know. I think I was starting to do my head in a little bit. and this phone call come and then all you see how fast of a yes was it hey how fast of a yes was like mate you got to talk to like oh mate it was all all happened like quick it was like right away like sue it i'm like man i wish you guys felt that that would have been crazy put it so i never said no uh at all uh but it was like uh sitting there and i'm like what like you know sort of like what like because i had because people like oh you're probably you're prepared thinking this might
Starting point is 00:19:29 happen honestly i didn't think about it one bit which i'm glad i didn't i'll get into that after this but i was um just sitting there and i'm like did not i'm like what like like and then i'm just thinking i was like could you imagine could you imagine taking it could you imagine winning uh could you imagine like you know this is going to be this is going to be crazy man i'll and like obviously i know that you know i'm going to get get looked after as well like i could get a new contract and yeah it's a man you know what i'm like yeah like i don't want to do it And he's like, really? Like, Ash is like, really?
Starting point is 00:20:03 I'm like, man, you go do the work? Let me talk to Joe. Obviously, I've got to talk the team into it. And then Joe was on board. My wife was happy. I think she could see that I was struggling, knowing that I had to wait until January. So she knew that this was good for me. And yeah, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:20:23 So it was a pretty easy decision. And you've been sparring, right? Yeah, yeah, I've been, yeah, I've been sparring. Like, obviously, probably for four or five weeks. Doing a couple of sessions here and there. I'm always, like I said, I'm training all you around. Yeah, like, again, not like, you know, I'm trying more helping other guys that are fighting and that as well,
Starting point is 00:20:40 but I'm still getting in there, still getting looks in. So, again, I'm never not training, man. Like, even though, like, you know, compared to most times in-between camp, this has probably been the least that I've probably, because usually I'm in the gym, like, every day, and then I don't take any holidays, you know what I mean? Like, I probably did have holidays and that more than, this time. So I probably wasn't as professional as I usually am. I'll be honest. But I feel
Starting point is 00:21:08 that's an advantage for me. Because again, I'm always going to be trying. I'm always going to be fit. I'm always going to do five rounds. Now I didn't have any stresses or like any fight pressure, fight camp pressure, any niggly, you know what I mean? It was none of that. I literally had a holiday like a week or two ago. So I'm coming in so fresh. And I think that gives me advantage. So obviously there's a lot of cons, but there is pros. And one of them being the fact that I'm so fresh, the fact that I haven't exhausted myself mentally and physically, I get to go in there dangerous. I think this is why I'm going to be the most dangerous you've ever seen me. You know what I mean? Like, is it going to be the most well prepared? No, I'm not going to
Starting point is 00:21:48 lighties. It's pretty fucking obvious. But I believe one thing you will see is this will be the most dangerous I've ever been. So I get to take advantage of that this week. What do you think it's going to be the biggest difference for the second fight? The biggest difference? What mistakes do you think you did in the last? I mean, I showed him a lot of respect and his well-deserved respect. But, I mean, as I just told you, then, I can't afford. I've been saying this all week.
Starting point is 00:22:12 I can't afford to show him respect. I can't afford it. Like, I've got to go out there and I'm going in for the kill. You know what I mean? So that's a difference. That's why I'm going to be so dangerous. Will it leave opportunities? Yeah, it always does.
Starting point is 00:22:23 But, I mean, I've never had this mindset going in. So I'm looking forward to seeing how. how dangerous I can be when I've got this sort of mindset. So I'm pumped man, honestly. He's getting me chills. I can't believe we're here. Let's go. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:22:38 I mean, you might see me be going to like, fuck this. I'm doing 12 day camp every fucking time. You know what I mean? Like you never know. I feel like, yeah, just just fresh and excited. And I've had a smile on my face for the last, ever since I got that phone call.
Starting point is 00:22:52 What do you think about Khabib saying that they don't care that you're coming in last minute? Islam would be ready for, like, King Kong if he had to be. I mean, that's the mentality they should have, you know what I mean? And, like, that's why I give them respect for taking this fight. And that's how they look at us. Like, at the end of the day, we're prepared, you know what I mean? Like, to beat anyone in the world.
Starting point is 00:23:12 That's how they're looking at it. And that's how they should. You know what I mean? So, again, credit to them for taking the fight. Because they did take the fight on short notice. I mean, I guarantee if they had an option to take me, take the fight me on 12 day notice
Starting point is 00:23:27 or me in full camp they're going to take 12 day notice I'm sure but I mean they're going to still understand what I'm about and who I am you know he got to feel that that five round fight that we had
Starting point is 00:23:38 he knows what I'm all about he knows what I got you know even me on 12 days notice you know he's he shouldn't be shocked at what I'm going to bring Is this fight kind of different with when it's like Islam where it seems like you guys have like zero like personal beef
Starting point is 00:23:52 it just seems like a competition as opposed to like if it's the next fight could be torpor or ilia that's he's more of a shit yeah exactly right yeah you're right 100% yeah that that's what it is it's like a rivalry and there's like this um there it is like this it's not bad blood so what would you call it but there is like this sort of you guys aren't even selling the fight by like it just sells it's selling the battle of so the bad blood so the bad blood's cool competitive bad bud right it's so small like that way it's uh you know So, like, there is things that he's saying, like, you know, like, you don't use an excuse and blah, blah, blah, this is all competitive talk, and, you know what I mean? And that's pressure as well.
Starting point is 00:24:30 I feel like he's got a lot of pressure on him. And that's understandable. I've been in a position where I've had a late replacement. You put a lot of pressure on yourself. You really do. You try and, you know, you want to play it safe. Like, I can't let this guy land, you know, like as I remember. You've been in that position too?
Starting point is 00:24:44 I've been, yeah. I've had a guy come in, like, one week or something like that. It's early in my career. Right now, I deal with it probably better. but I remember sitting there and be like, man, so I just remember I was, like, so wrestling and heavy because I was so worried about him just catch me. I thought the only chance he's got is catching me.
Starting point is 00:25:00 So I started like, I was second-guessing myself so much, and I was just trying to cling on to him. It is, yeah, so there's a lot of pressure on him, and the fact that he's bringing up, don't use excuses and all that. I can feel that he's like, he knows that everyone's going to be thinking like that. Where for me, I'm not taking any of any of that.
Starting point is 00:25:16 You know, I can't make excuses. Oh, yeah, exactly. I'm not sitting there thinking, oh, yeah, if I lose, you know, oh really out there doesn't matter nah i've again i can't do this i can't do that but i can do this this is this my full focus is on that i've got no time to worry about any other pressure so bring it on let's go out there and let's be the most dangerous i can be and give the fans what they want and again this rivalry plays on you know what i mean like so we're not playing on winning so
Starting point is 00:25:41 maybe it's going to end up turning to be a trilogy so it's going to be pretty incredible whether he chooses to go up after this i don't know but um again i'm uh i'm a i'm a i'm a game he's game and uh it's gonna have to be a firefight because that's the fight i'm bringing i have a question it must be annoying when he calls you short though like hell of time oh mate i'm like the last short my whole life bro it does not that give you like a little ick like all right bro this nah no laugh i laugh like it's all short guy no wrestling and all that i just i mean i don't know i don't ever be a who i got to get him back for that like i'm never like i just like i'm like i can't i can't wait i like i i sort of been like i hope he really does think oh this guy
Starting point is 00:26:20 Yeah, like it's going to be easy. This guy literally has no wrestling because then he's going to be in for a root shock. And if he did think that, you know what I mean? Obviously, you know, that would have definitely played on him in the last one. You know, that's why he would have, you end up seeing him completely, I wouldn't say completely breaking, but you've seen him slow down at break. Your wrestling was like, I was like, what the hell is going on? Yeah, that's what I mean?
Starting point is 00:26:42 He's got to, you've got to remember, like, I'm so much better in their positions now. So, like, yeah, can I go as long in their positions? Like, you know what I mean? I don't know, we'll see. But, I mean, I guarantee you I'm better in their positions now. And you're working with... I'm stronger in their positions now. You're working with the jiu-suit you've got Craig Jones.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Craig Jones, yeah, Craig Jones and Frank Hickman. I mean, the guys at my gym as well, like, they're all so good on the wall. That's why I always knew I was going to be hard work for him. Because, I mean, our scrambling ability and that he's always being good. And then I've got the brains of these guys as well putting their two cents in and helping me prepare, not only that being bodies for me. But, I mean, the guys at the gym, they all, understand position. They know what I do well. They know
Starting point is 00:27:22 we all understand the mechanics, keys and principles of... Book club on Monday. Gym on Tuesday. Date night on Wednesday. Out on the town on Thursday. Quiet night in on Friday. It's good to have a routine.
Starting point is 00:27:43 And it's good for your eyes too. Because with regular comprehensive eye exams at Specsavers, you'll know just how healthy they are. Visit specksavers.cavers.ca to book your next eye exam, eye exams provided by independent optometrists. Of how it works. So they're always giving me good looks all year round. So I'm thankful for that.
Starting point is 00:28:03 And then lucky enough to have the guys come in and give me good looks, you know, even though it was only a couple of weeks. I believe it's more than enough. I think I'm the right guy that can take in the right knowledge. Literally, they could show me some things on the night and I'll be able to literally put it into a phone. fight yeah yeah fuck it's awesome we don't want to take up uh too much of your time we know you got a busy day but no always at all man we appreciate you coming through thank you so good all good
Starting point is 00:28:30 bro so much respect for like it's gonna be excited me so much respect hey it's gonna be a another one of those fights where you know if if uh if it doesn't last long it's going to be exciting the whole whole way through if it does go the whole way it's going to be exciting the whole way through so no matter where this fight goes uh in between however it happens it's going to be fireworks everyone's in for a treat so expect uh expect rounds uh six and onwards expect rounds the six and onwards that's how it's going to be oh yeah one of the goats oh maybe let's go let's go let's go we got homza in the building um appreciate you coming through bro because i know you don't do a lot of this stuff um so what what's it like fighting in abdhabi are you excited
Starting point is 00:29:19 I've been a long time out, so she wants to make my money, man, before I get homeless. Before you get homeless? Joking. What was it like for you? I know they give a lot of credit to Usman and Volk for stepping up, but is it different for you to have to take a fight on 10 days' notice with a brand-new opponent, or you don't care? No, actually not. I don't care. I want to fight somebody, and Usman, you want to kind of guys.
Starting point is 00:29:49 Like, you know, being the champ and good name, good history now. So it's going to make good money. That's why I just want to fight with everyone. Has this fight's been kind of a long time coming, right? You and Usman? Yeah, at the same day, it's one when I guess today you see he was the champ and everyone spoke about that. So it will be a good fight, good fight, and now we're fighting.
Starting point is 00:30:16 Awesome. And you were going to fight him at 170, right? before or like when you wanted to find usman back then it was going to originally i was the time was he had the belt if he had the belt i would i could fight him 173 as well but i don't have a belt anymore so don't need to cut the weight and for nothing you know what was your reaction when you heard paolo like he pulled out and then he and then usman came in the play actually i i heard like in the medias but it wasn't 100% for sure but one manager called me if I was man I said okay and I didn't didn't get the time to know he
Starting point is 00:30:57 jump out and straight to come up with a different how did you um I know we don't get to do this a lot but how did how did you like get into MMA originally I knew you grew up in Russia right and then you moved to Sweden I saw you were inspired by like you saw the McGregor and Aldo fight when you're on like break for work yeah I was in the one workplace and how old were you that like 20 22 23 yeah 23 and were you like is did you just see that fight and then you got into MMA or were you like training before that oh just he was doing wrestling with my brother just sometimes hit the back no coach is nothing just my brother me I was working every day like six day a week and one day rest sometimes all week and after the
Starting point is 00:31:49 directly to go to the gym lift weights and wrestling and then went home two years it just was so boring for me I always feel the inside and built for something special so that's why I wasn't happy with the work and get the money paid every month the same money you know and my brother hold me you need to work you need to work and then I see the fight I ask him let me go to the Stockholm, Alexander Guston was training there, and he said, this guy not here, he's training you, you say, I said, no, he's here. And he said, okay, go try. You are one year. And I started train M.A. That's crazy. And you what? You were working at like a, I saw you work in security
Starting point is 00:32:41 in like a chicken factory? Yeah. What job did you like better? she says no nothing i like for fighting training the jobs that job's not for me what was the security for security like sometimes when they when the habib and the corner fought i was that day on the work you know but like where like was it at a restaurant or like the bars and different places you know like the guys come out you know like they was too drunk they put them out they said you fuck Kabib
Starting point is 00:33:19 like I said I'm not Kabib Kovic they was thinking I'm Kabir they was too drunk but and this was in Russia right? Khabi fought today why are you talking about so you had to break up a lot of bar fights as security no fights I couldn't punch in Sweden if you punch it's it just
Starting point is 00:33:35 we took them out you know me and my friend we were working together so all right boys we're going to interrupt the pod real quick to let you guys know but we got a deal for you guys at manscape.com. I don't advertise anything on the pod that I don't actually use,
Starting point is 00:33:49 and manscaped, I actually personally love it. I don't pull birds very often. I honestly rarely pull birds, but one I do, I'm fucking ready for it. I might not be fully shaven, but I'm groomed up, keeping the sack smelling fucking fresh. I'm going to show you guys
Starting point is 00:34:04 the Manscape Razor. It's the new 5.0. I said this before, but this Manscape Razor looks like fucking Elon Musk made it, man. It looks like a fucking Heslaw razor razor. It's absolutely unbelievable. It's got all the different attachments.
Starting point is 00:34:16 It comes with everything. The thing I love about Manscape is that it's a one-stop shop. So instead of going to fucking out and about or going to different websites to get like a bunch of different shit, Manscape has everything you need to just stay fresh in general. Because boys, you know, it's shred season. We're getting jacked and we got to stay groomed up. We got to pull birds. Summer's over. Christmas is around the corner.
Starting point is 00:34:36 I don't know what that means. But we got to stay groomed up. So we got a code for you boys. Use code nelk on Manscape.com. It's going to get you 20% off plus free shipping. That's a fucking deal, boys. 20% off plus free shipping if you use code nelk. Boys, be fucking ready for action.
Starting point is 00:34:53 In the event that you pull, which you're probably not going to pull, like me, you'll be fucking ready. You'll be groomed up. You can be rocking full bush. You can go a little half trim, a little quarter trim, even a one eighth. I like to use one for a while. But no pull bush like gambles. So yeah, Manscape.com, use code nelk, 20% off plus free shipping.
Starting point is 00:35:10 that is a fucking deal stay groomed up boys let's get back in the pot when you moved to sweden how did you how did it go from training there for the year how did that first year of training go i was in the gym sleeping in the gym every day four sessions five sessions like i was so hungry to get to be somebody and in this year i fought four times amateur fights one against world champion and amateur and One European champion in kickboxing, I smashed the guys, finished them, then straight up pro. In one year, I fought six times, and I finished all my opponents. Then my brother said, okay, you can't continue.
Starting point is 00:35:56 How long have you been wrestling for? Since I was kids, I did a lot of different being trained in combat zambor and wrestling and judo. Because in my village it was not that stability. Different coaches go to the work and they come back and judo coach. He was three years. I was training judo. Then he went somewhere to Russia working. And then we had one young wrestling coach.
Starting point is 00:36:30 Was working with him. So it was different. It was training different, different competitions. I not grow up only under wrestling, you know. What was your favorite, like martial art, like growing up when you said judo, you know, wrestling, combat sombo? What was your favorite doing? Boxing. Boxing?
Starting point is 00:36:46 You like striking, huh, a lot. Yeah, I like boxing, but never get a chance to train boxing that time. We didn't have. It's one village passed for me, and we had there. I went there when I was 13. They said you're too old for that because in our country has to start when you start young, you know. that age you start from wrestling seven years six years that's normal when you pass 10 then I think you're too old so when you say you were sleeping in the gym
Starting point is 00:37:18 were you actually like like sleeping there every night like you didn't did you have nowhere to live you slept there or you're just saying like you spent a lot of time there I slept there three years three years did you just have like one of like a bed and like a room and stuff I think I has the video can show for you yeah that's To my friend Literally sleeping in the gym Yeah Yeah he was just that dedicated
Starting point is 00:37:41 He really wanted it It's all Everything I own three years I'll shut out It's my wrestling Yeah At 2018 So at this point
Starting point is 00:37:55 When you're sleeping in the gym For three years Yeah I was sleeping in this room Three years Leave there That's crazy When you're sleeping there
Starting point is 00:38:02 Did you Did you know that one day That you were going to become like a big fighter or was there ever any doubt in your mind yeah of course when i was starting may when i actually understand this for me so same day's one i was thinking if i fight that time if i fight the champion me and champion was tyrone woodley i don't remember who was champion that time i was ready that time as well to win the fight you know so i knew always will become my time but just yeah after two years working in the gym so i get i get to the
Starting point is 00:38:44 uc how did that how did that initial call from the ufc come like how is that that was that was that was the hard time this was corona all this shit covered and covid the gyms was closing everything so's going working security and we was training every day still just professional guys in the gym and the whole city was boring in Stockholm you know in winter as well and the manager called me you get I was in the park just thinking about what you didn't do next step for me and now corona all this thing a world gonna go down yeah and like say I don't know what to do now and he calls me it's UFC man I said, no joke with me, Ma, come to the hotel.
Starting point is 00:39:38 He said, come to the hotel, and he's his contract for the EFC. Wow, that's crazy. What did that feel like at that moment? First, I'm only coming, yeah. I said, this is my chance. They were going to get that long go for me. So I took the chance. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:40:03 And now you're here. co-main event and and like this card has completely changed even the main event your fight as well and this is like as a fan too this is like obviously everyone is so pumped up for this fight like how does it feel now to sleeping in the gym for three years to being the co-main event of probably one of the biggest fights feels amazing man so i know never forget where i come from you know so that's why I'm still on the top, you know, smashing these guys. Some guys get comfortable like Usman doing dancing on the tables, you know, doing the African dances, you know.
Starting point is 00:40:46 So I'm not here for dance. I'm fighting, you know. I'm a fighter. Not going to be comfortable until I finish this fighting game. Do you hear, like, a lot of the noise, like, when's the comms are going to fight? When's Com's not going to fight? Are you ready to, like, prove on Saturday? like all right i'm ready to fight it's just i need a fight right yeah of course man if one year i
Starting point is 00:41:09 heard about that when you're gonna fight when you're gonna fight imagine every like everywhere you go probably asking everyone everyone like my friends as well you know every day you hear the same question when you're gonna fight when you're gonna fight sometimes you want to just find something Like a head button? Yeah. Do you plan on staying at middleweight now or like going back? No, if it's for the gold, I'm going to go down. If it's not for somebody, why should go down for Colby for this Usman
Starting point is 00:41:45 and they don't have a gold man? If they have the goal, of course, I'm going to go down, fight with them. If they're not, why should do that? I can be in this weight class, be more happy and not cutting weight, make same money, you know? Do you think Uzman's easier than Paul Costa or harder? I think Uzman is much better fighter, much skills, you know, and different fighter who is being the champ.
Starting point is 00:42:13 Paulo Costa is not like a guy, just pushing one round, he's cast out now. He's not like real fighter. Where did that like that beef, quote-unquote, like when did that start? Like not beef, but like you and Kosta not liking each other and stuff? I was in UCPI in Vegas and I was he was like saying hello to us and like nice to us and it was sitting close and my friend just the day after he showed me in the interview he did I got to fuck this guy up these that there's not a bad things about me I never imagine thinking I would fight this guy without a home or focus was 170 and I just went up
Starting point is 00:42:58 and said the guy, why are you saying these things? What do you want? Like, yeah, I want to fight you. I said, come on, let's fight now. So then it starts now. So, yeah, the guys. Hey, so what did you want to talk about? Well, I want to tell you about Wagovi. Wagovi? Yeah, Wagovi. What about it? On second thought, I might not be the right person to tell you. Oh, you're not? No, just ask your doctor about Wagovi. Yeah, ask for it by name. Okay, so why did you bring me to the circus? Oh, I'm really into lion tamers. You know, with the chair and everything.
Starting point is 00:43:38 Ask your doctor for Wagovi by name. Visit wagovi.combe.com for savings. Exclusions may apply. I just tried to make money. Mm-hmm. I don't know. Now he lost his chance. No money.
Starting point is 00:43:50 Went to his a balloon album. A lot of people are wondering what kind of Kamaro Uzman we're going to see on the fight some people think that he might be near the end of his career what do you think i don't think he's end of his career now when somebody fought me everyone says when i finish somebody when i fight somebody they find already excuses for us one still is good still good skills and last fight i didn't think he lost against leon edwards actually in my opinion so I see it was draw like 50 50 but because the belt is Leon Edwards had this I think that's why they get the belt is the champ but fight was for 50 50 and he is still
Starting point is 00:44:39 champ level you know so I'm different level yeah wow I'm excited for this fight I'm so excited yeah and then the winner the winner Dana said is obviously fighting for the title next versus Sean Strickland. How do you think that fight plays out between you two if it goes down if you win? I don't know all fights in my head I smash somebody in all. You just want to smash everyone out.
Starting point is 00:45:03 Yeah. I don't plan anything in my head that's just going to be a decision with somebody. How is it training with Sean Strickland? I've seen that you guys were in the same gym, right? He's good, good training, good day. Like, there has good team runs. I like the place in Vegas,
Starting point is 00:45:20 and extreme couture and the coach's helped me a lot as well held the pads and training and that's a very good coach eric he's smart guy you know so surely not scared about any guys more scared about coaches wasn't you guys wasn't you guys sparring one time Sean like were you sparring in the gym and Sean Strickland told you to like chill relax like yeah you're better than everyone here like don't hurt no one yeah I see the video I don't remember anything like that day what's happened what's going on but it was a lot of days like this kind of you know so yeah let me if somebody goes hard i go hard if somebody plays so i don't like to train you know so i need to be just hard work and hard fighting hard spotting play shit is not for me and do you
Starting point is 00:46:17 train every day even outside of uh like do you ever take breaks it seems as if you never take a break like i always see you on instagram you're always training you're always just trying to stay active no man what you're gonna do the only thing i can do is just training fighting smarting beat somebody is my it's my work man if you want to be the best in the work you know what do you do it has to be always on this now i'm not saying just last this year when I was out fighting and then just eating sleeping fighting training you know so in the gym every day just eat sleep repeat my nothing changes so sometimes they get a little bit defection and sick one week off because coach told me so rest one
Starting point is 00:47:07 week and that all year I've been training is it ever tough being like a fighter like do you ever like i know one time you said that you wanted to retire like is there like a lot of ups and downs mentally with being a fighter that time was hard man it's not not the same man when they're healthy you know that time when i said that doctor said to me coming there you has a cancer man that's why i'm said that i'm retired i didn't know what to say to my family didn't know what to say to the people then we check again the other doctors said no you don't have a cancer you still coughing blood and you think, man, you're finished, you know. Still once, if doctor said something to you, it's in your head.
Starting point is 00:47:52 Yeah, in your head and you still go home and you're coughing of blood. It's like what's going on. It's tomorrow I'm finished, ma. I said to my managers, and when he said, doctor says, I'm watching him, no money anymore, brother. He was stressed and he would jump out on the doctor. what you talk about and this shit and they bring other doctor and he said no it's not cancer it's corona so that's why I'm it was hard that's why I said that then went home to back
Starting point is 00:48:27 Russian they helped a lot of big bring a lot of doctors and they helped me a lot there and after three weeks being good then I come back like I said in the cage my if I'm still here till I die gonna be in the cage man that's awesome I gave me shit how about how about like as you being like in the UFC and stuff getting getting famous how do you deal with that because you're very you have like compared to not everyone in the UFC has like a big following like you have over six million followers on Instagram like you have a very a lot of fans right how of you how do you deal with the fame and stuff like that do you ever get annoyed or do you
Starting point is 00:49:09 enjoy it Sometimes you enjoy it, sometimes it's hard, different, you know, but whatever we do, it's whatever pressure, different things coming to you, become comfortable with that, you know. So if you do every day, every day the same thing, it's become a normal for you, you know. So in the beginning was that different, sometimes you're happy, sometimes you make you sad, and people said some two pink things, you know, once punch somebody and if you punch, they get it. If you punch, they get all the caps and, you know, these things. Yeah, especially you. Yeah, man. You ever have fans aggravate you?
Starting point is 00:49:49 Like, just, like, messing with you just randomly. God, I hope not. No, just like when they're drunk, you know, not like when they're drunk, yeah. Yeah. Why would someone ever come out of you? I would never talk shit to you drunk. Yeah. God damn.
Starting point is 00:50:02 Some people think that when they're drunk, they're superman's mouth. Really? Has that ever, what has that ever happened? Yeah. Yeah, but my friends, I have my brothers, they don't let me punch somebody outside. They punch for me. And I said, I was outside once in Stockholm, and they always went on the street, one big guy, and was drunk. Come to me, just go straight.
Starting point is 00:50:24 He said, give me a cigarette, man. Say, what the fuck you talk about with cigarette, man? They never smoked out. And they say, oh, you're going to give me. I said, no, man, come on. You're going to slap you. Take a step away from me. Just being very disrespectful.
Starting point is 00:50:38 Like, give me one way. Yeah. Yeah, it's a step away from me. And I was close to slap him. And when my younger brother jumped off, I knocked him out, man. Oh, God. On the streets, man. And we wake him up, we wake him up, and don't remember.
Starting point is 00:50:55 We helped him with the water. So you knock him out? Not me, my friend. And he just asked him, we're okay? Yeah, I'm okay. He went to the shop, buy the cigar, and go home. My younger brothers, they protect me with the shit things, you know, don't let me punch and they don't have problems with the police, all this shit, you know. Why, do you still like living in Sweden? Like, you like?
Starting point is 00:51:27 Yeah, a lot of friends. Like, Stockholm is my home. As I grow up there being fighter and my brothers, my friends. lives there. But I'm going to stay here. I'm going to live here in Budhabi sometimes. I'm going to go visit my friends. I love that city. And this city, like, become my home. Everyone knows me.
Starting point is 00:51:52 I knows everyone. So it's not that big city, you know. Sweden is a small country. Everyone knows everyone. But in Russia, too, you're also very famous. I even saw the Chechen leader, how you say is, Ramzan? Ramzan. He surprised you with a Mercedes.
Starting point is 00:52:07 he's bans yeah yeah actually gave him three times three three benses yeah how does how does that happen like you just go hang out with him and then he just surprises you with a car he likes the sports and fighting and a lot of fighters being there Usman being there they gets them some I don't know what they gets he likes the old Mike Tyson being there Floyd maweiser being there yeah the guys get the money as well for sure so he's so he's he's given you three cars yeah he gave me free cars and he helps me with everything what i need and did i saw he convinced you to be in fight them did he talk to you when you were trying to retire yeah he did he called me what's wrong on i said they say maybe cancer maybe not he said no you're
Starting point is 00:52:58 not cancer come come back home and we help you and then you're gonna go promise me just i'm gonna help you with being healthy promise me you come back to the cage I said okay brother we do he just bought you in other bands he said if I'll buy you a band when I see the best become healthy man
Starting point is 00:53:17 actually he helped me with a lot of things that's awesome we'd love to have him on the podcast if you could tell him if you do us a favor brother it's good for you no no we don't care
Starting point is 00:53:33 we don't care I understand Yeah, but he has a lot of work with different things, man. I don't know. Yeah. We don't want to take up too much your time. We know you got a busy day. You got the weight cut and big fight.
Starting point is 00:53:43 So we appreciate you coming, bro. Yeah, thank you. And, yeah, I think you should get a lot of credit, too, like, Uzman, and they get a lot of credit, but for taking an opponent in 10 days, too. So, and we're very excited for the fight. We're happy to be here, so. Thank you. Me too.

We got Gaichi guest co-hosting on this one too We officially announced our Happy Dad thing if you guys are watching this Justin's officially part of team Happy Dad first
Starting point is 00:54:14 Let's go boys So boys golf Saturday Saturday? Saturday 710 or 720? 7.10 a.m.? He has links, yeah Dude, you know how hot is fucking hot out there I haven't played an early morning round like that in a while That's going to be fun as fuck
Starting point is 00:54:30 Little morning dew on the grass still There's two things I wake up early for Happily hunting and golf I don't know why Early morning golf is a vibe Yeah I love it too Nice coffee in the cart
Starting point is 00:54:43 What time does guzzing start For early morning golf though First part three First part three What are the rules What are the rules are What's up, bro? What's up?
Starting point is 00:54:52 What's up? I love you What are you doing? Good to see you How are you? Tomorrow Ouzman in the house And we got Justin Guest co-host
Starting point is 00:55:02 Yes How you doing, bro? I'm good good good we had we had Camaro on what over a year ago I think you came on you're one of our first early guess couple years ago I was dope to have you back on thank you how's uh I know this media day shit is
Starting point is 00:55:18 crazy cutting weight I don't know how the fuck you guys do that but yeah but you asked me to be here anyways huh yeah we had to I mean it's only because we know you're not cutting weight this time no no it's cool it's a part of the routine now we're yeah we've been doing this long enough and as professionals you just know it's part of the routine.
Starting point is 00:55:38 Yeah. Yeah. Well, yeah. I mean, as fans, bro, like to see you jump in, much respect to you, it's just, I'm so excited for this fight,
Starting point is 00:55:47 and I know everyone. He took my belt. Huh? He took my belt. Which belt? My bad as motherfucker belt. Hopefully they had to give us two of them, yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:56 Yeah, what do you think of this guy winning the BMF belt? I mean, rightfully so. If you really think about it, let's, uh, let's, uh, if we really, really look at it who if you're if someone says oh just the gays she's fighting who's not
Starting point is 00:56:10 watching facts that's true exactly is anyone you not watching probably Gabe he doesn't watch he doesn't watch I think as a fan though both of you guys for sure I mean obviously like so Kamaruzman's fighting too like and so that's a that's a cool thing that I love about the where I'm at right now is that you know I get to we get to punch each other in the face all the time so what walk us through what how did you get that call like what were you doing where were you i just got done training uh with my strength coach and i was a walking through target okay so i still like to shop by myself sometimes so i'm in target what what aisle were you in i was in the uh facial cream aisle yeah i was looking at you know
Starting point is 00:56:58 nutrigena and uh all the fancy stuff they have at target so i'm i'm going to through that aisle and I get a call from Ali he calls me like five times a day anyway so I'm like all right is he on this time sometimes he just wants to just see my face yeah and so he calls me and he's he's smiling and he like shakes his head he's laughing and he like rubs his eyes I'm like what what happened he's like yeah this guy's out um they're asking me if you would step in I told him no. So I was like, hold on. I'll call you right back.
Starting point is 00:57:38 He called Trevor. Trevor said, when he answered the phone, his eyes were, he had a crazy look on his face and he said, all right, we're going to Abujave. Listen, I told Trevor, I told, you know, we had a call in the group and a group chat, you know, and I texted Henry, and none of them talked me out of it. You know, sometimes, and that's what we do is as fighters, we try. us are our coaches to to be the ones to step in if we they need to and none of them you know so I was kind of like it was almost they you know eventually they were like oh I want you think about
Starting point is 00:58:19 it I already knew I had a decision made up in my mind you know I was I knew I was going to fight but I was like to make them feel better I was like all let me let me go in the gym let me sleep on it and I'll let you know tomorrow but I already knew I was going to do that shit I was on that phone call. You were? You were on the phone call? Yeah. He actually answers.
Starting point is 00:58:39 Sometimes he doesn't answer, but he actually answered. Yeah, no, we, the confidence in his voice, you know, the confidence in his face and the willingness to not even think about it was, there was no way that any of us were going to question, you know, how focused and intent he was on going to Abu Dhabi. So we all were like, we're going to Abu Dhabi. a couple days let's go we weren't going to be here and then we're here so literally 24 i think um just amazing i mean this guy legend is poor i mean obviously number one pound for for many years but to go up to 85 and i mean imagine the story that this is crazy and yeah like
Starting point is 00:59:23 not only you take in like a fight on 10 days notice it's not like you chose the easiest opponent you know and this has been a long time coming too right this fight yeah I mean, when you get a guy like this that everyone's excited about and bursts on the scene, you just, and me being at the top, it's just that you kind of hope that he stays the course and he continues to ascend to where you actually had the opportunity to fight him. And, you know, it's just kind of a place of enlightenment where I am to where I understand. And I love the fact that I'm getting these opportunities to fight the top guy.
Starting point is 01:00:01 You know, I was, Damien Maya was choking everyone, unconscious. But then I was, I was scared, but I got the opportunity. And I was like, yes, I'm going to take that opportunity. And I got through that. RDA, I got through that. Woodley was knocking dudes out. And it was like, yeah, give me that opportunity.
Starting point is 01:00:18 And I got through it. And Coventon's, Pace was killing everyone. I was like, I want that opportunity. And I got it. And, you know, so when you get excited about a young guy like this that everyone's excited about, who's not excited about this fight? Yeah, I'm very excited. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:00:32 And how am I going to feel is this is a part that's addicting to me, how I'm going to feel standing over him or standing up from that, that win, and feeling that relief of getting over that mountain. With title implications, I mean, the story is going to be historical. Yeah, if you win, you'll be fighting for the middle-way title, right? Absolutely. I think you'll go back down to try to get the 170. That's actually a great story. to go out.
Starting point is 01:01:01 Oh, that sounds nice. Tell me a better one. You know, that actually sounds really nice. Yeah, that's a way to go out, right? Yeah. When you say he has a lot of, like, excitement, like, do you think that is he, like, a little overhyped? They're like, because he's also, like, he has a big following.
Starting point is 01:01:16 He has a lot of fans. He's famous. Is that what you mean by that? I mean, he says advertised. Like, he comes in and he's done everything he's supposed to do with the opposition. needs to be presented with and so everyone's excited about that and I'm excited about that and this is three rounds
Starting point is 01:01:35 right correct yeah three round front I'm excited about that so you know it is what it is I'm excited that everyone's excited about it top freaking pumped so if no one's excited about the fight and you can even ask Justin no one's excited about your fight
Starting point is 01:01:50 how do you feel I mean yeah we're going and get that check anyways but it's like you know everyone's excited about you got to get up for that I'm ready for Anytime someone is high level As you steps in there We all want to watch When was the last time
Starting point is 01:02:02 You fought a three-round fight? Shit. That's a good question. That's like that's crazy. I can't even Picture you in a three-round fight, bro. Dang, I don't know. That shit going to be high pace, bro.
Starting point is 01:02:17 But it's, I mean, three-round fights are hard too. Yeah, of course. Especially when you're more risky. It's different, right? It's different. You lose the first round, you cannot lose another round.
Starting point is 01:02:26 Five-round fight, you can give one and three, and no matter what, you can do that for two rounds. It's a different mindset and learning how to pace yourself for a five-round fight. It's like running the 1,500 and running the 400. You know, they both suck, but one's a dead-out sprint, and the other one you have to learn how to pace your sprint. So it's going to be challenging as well, but, hey, that's what we do.
Starting point is 01:02:53 And then what do you think? I guess Dana said that the winner fights Sean Strickland. fighting Sean Strickland and that's I mean that's a incredible matchup as well Sean Strickland is he's improved greatly I think he's kind of coming to his own as the type of fighter that he wants to be but styles make fights and I think that's a tremendous when did you when did you fight Sean Strickland I know you did 20 17 and that was Walter way too that was a Walter yeah so styles make fights he's really good now so am i so we'll see how that what do you why do you think like i i saw that you're the underdog
Starting point is 01:03:33 in this fight which i like probably gonna bet like like you said that's what i said you haven't been an underdog i saw since the tyron woodley flight why why do you think that you're being so underestimated in this fight i mean maybe considering your your reign and definitely the yeah if they uh if they were scheduled to fight i'm not exactly i'm i can't even guess what the numbers would look like yeah but i think it would be a pretty like minus 110 minus 110 If they, if this was a, yeah. Yeah, it is what it is. Is that a different way class?
Starting point is 01:04:02 You take that, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, look at the, who's making these right? That likes people in Vegas. Probably, yeah. Someone in Vegas that's controlling the betting. Yeah, who cares? AI. That dude don't do nothing for me.
Starting point is 01:04:13 AI's telling me. That dude ain't paying a million kick me nothing back. So, I never worried about that. Like, I've been, I've been favorites. I've been, on the dog, doesn't matter. Like, with the Woodley fight, I think I was a bigger underdog. We saw that, went down.
Starting point is 01:04:31 So it doesn't matter. I just had to come out and perform. That's the most important thing. Wow. Yeah. Post-last Leon fight, was it, like, tough coming off such, like, a dominant... Your reign was historic,
Starting point is 01:04:44 but, like, you know, arguably the best welterweight of all time. And was that, like, ever, like, mentally tough, kind of coming off that? Yeah, it was mentally tough because I knew what I was dealing with going into the fight. and not many people know because I I didn't care to talk about it but I knew what I was dealing with and you know I felt a bit of pressure to not necessarily not cancel the fight you know just being honest I didn't cancel that fight because I don't cancel fights I don't say no to fights
Starting point is 01:05:22 it's just my you know I think this is This word works here. It's my perplexity to, I think that's a good word that works. None of us know. Yeah, I got to Google that one. I got to Google that one for sure. It sounded perfect. It sounded good, right?
Starting point is 01:05:42 It's my, uh, just my mental fortitude to just want to go in and make it happen. And I probably should have taken a little bit of time, but who cares it's his life that's part of living is this the first time you've taken a fight like this close
Starting point is 01:06:03 like 10 days like I forget I was in Abu Dhabi before remember really remember that's I thought in Abu Dhabi oh yeah
Starting point is 01:06:12 remember that no think about it he wasn't close to he were here no but it was a fight island COVID
Starting point is 01:06:19 changed his opponent all kinds of shit he didn't even get to like seven days before yeah Fight Island six days notice that was six days
Starting point is 01:06:28 damn yeah I do remember that now yeah so that's crazy yeah it's not it's nothing new holy shit that was six days we've been doing this since like you guys you guys know I mean we can put like it's no there's no way to put it into perspective how long we've been doing this how long we've been getting our ass
Starting point is 01:06:44 kicked and kicking our own ass over and over to try and to try and be successful but ultimately being the purest form of competitors believing in our preparation our skills and so anytime you face a loss. It's going to hurt, but it's not the first time we've been here. And the best way to define yourself is to get back on the horse and believe in yourself and ride. So, I mean, since he was a child, we've had such similar upbrings. But first and formal,
Starting point is 01:07:17 you kick your own ass over and over and over and over. You've done that thousands of times. You do that after the wins, you do it and after the losses you do it. But we move. on and he's strongly than I've ever felt him, ever seen him. And I think this short notice is going to be great for him, for his mind. You know, because he's always in shape. He's always working 100% pure athlete. But the mental focus and physical focus and the amount that you lose in preparation for these fights when you're, you know, mentally exhausting yourself every night going to sleep that's something he hasn't had to do and I think he's going to be more dangerous more confident and you know stronger than I've ever felt him so I'm excited to
Starting point is 01:08:06 see this fight the reason why we all love this shit is because anything can happen at any moment but I 100% am confident in his ability to go in there and do what he needs to do this weekend damn it's going to be crazy you know it is going to be fireworks though Oh, my God. I'm excited. I mean, he's, you dream with these moments to really get a fight like this that people care about and be able to get in there and really make it happen. And that's what's addicting about this.
Starting point is 01:08:37 And I'm looking to get another shot of that on Saturday. It's dangerous. It's a great fight. 100%. He's a vet. We've been, like I said, a whole life similar instances. One year, you're the youngest guy. Next year you're the vet.
Starting point is 01:08:51 next year he's the youngest guy he's the vet he knows that not one emotion not one not fear anger is going to help him he's going to be a pure competitor and it's going to be beautiful are you expecting a like a wrestling match because you have like the highest
Starting point is 01:09:07 what is it 97% yeah I never yeah I never really worried both of you guys yeah both yeah it's just interesting yeah I every single fight this guy's had he's yeah
Starting point is 01:09:21 He's very effective at closing the distance and making them, you know, at least getting in a grappling exchange to start off. So absolutely, that's what's, you know, probably going to happen. But this guy's been wrestling his whole life. And so. Yeah, if it happens, it happens. Do a striking war review. What? Just like fans.
Starting point is 01:09:44 I just want to see that. I'm just excited, man. primal about like if you guys weren't at the uh covington me and covington we fought the first time oh yeah you said you had a mental it was uh yeah it was a thing that we was just it was you step in there it's just something so crazy when you look across on this other man it's just like all right we're gonna we punch your faces you're gonna do it out yeah let's do it let's let's let's let's let's handle business you said what you said I said what I said let's freaking find out who's a man about this. And that's something that
Starting point is 01:10:17 you just, you don't have to speak, you don't have to say anything, you just go in there. Just you can just, yeah, you just feel it. Your heart is just open, you just like, let's fucking do this. Yeah. And next thing you know, we're punching each other. That's fucking crazy.
Starting point is 01:10:32 Yeah, we don't want to take up anything else you think. I don't want to take to them for the time. Yeah, well, yeah, should we do some choreographing for our open workout? You should make me fly? I mean, just true. I mean, you've been drilling for how long that's what I'm saying yeah what do you guys got to do after this uh open workouts later yeah and then workout and then workout how many people come with like your crew
Starting point is 01:10:56 when you come like when you came for this trip on this one um usual we have our you know we have our chef yeah but we have our coaches we have our chef you know we typically have a manager and then you know training partner with us so you know about a how dope is it for you guys to like be like you know having someone like Justin like travel with you when you fight and vice versa you guys have a great friendship we should uh we should start like we should do a youtube or something yeah yeah you should start like when we're done when we're done and we can like start like revealing our sparring sessions Trevor you have them all taped right who wins most who wins but like who he's punched me hard you don't go into he got not hitting hard but like
Starting point is 01:11:40 who's he slipped my whole chin open you serious yeah bro he almost killed me a few times Stop, don't. Okay, that's true. That's true. Like right here? I've heard him, he's hurt me. Yeah, that's crazy. But you don't go.
Starting point is 01:11:56 Not going in trying to try to kill each other. No, we, sometimes we, you got to feel it. Sometimes we try to feel. Yeah. Fucking trying to get so tired and exhausted that. Yeah. And the whole time I'm spawning with him, I'm trying to take care of him,
Starting point is 01:12:11 but trying to break his body and take care of his head. and he does the same thing for me and you know but ultimately just trying to get him as exhausted as possible while trying to fuck myself up you know in that position so like because I'm preparing I'm preparing for a situation
Starting point is 01:12:28 that it's not this this is my guy that's getting me there there's only two times a year we try to try to really hurt somebody and that's in the octagon so nobody wins it's ego versus ego sometimes
Starting point is 01:12:44 do. I mean, because he's not going to let me just run over him. He's not let me just do what I want to do. And I'm not going to let him just do what he wants to do. So we, like he said, we take care of each other, but we definitely let each other feel it. Where are you guys staying? I see even flexing the crib on the gram. Like, who's flexing the crib? I don't flexing in the crib. The island house? The island house? It's dope, though. Like, what Justin said, it's, it's really nice, beautiful. Really nice. It's nice enough. You need a boat to Yeah, too. Damn.
Starting point is 01:13:15 15 minutes speedboat. Yeah. Yeah. Wow. You need your boat to get to, so. I mean, ain't nothing for y'all. Yeah. Nah.
Starting point is 01:13:22 No. Yeah. I can get you guys a day pass. Huh? I can get you guys a day pass. To the crib? Yeah. Come to the crib.
Starting point is 01:13:29 We're down. Check it out. How did you get hooked up with that? Did you guys just rent it or the like is it obo dobi-dobby thing? Oh, we rented it. That's fine. That's fine. It didn't you.
Starting point is 01:13:37 In one day. It's good find. Fine. Yeah. Got a moat. Like, everything came together. In the living room. Shit.
Starting point is 01:13:44 A moat. Damn. It's a moat. I was like, water shit. Oh, wow. I texted the next fucking deal. I don't even know if that's the right word, but it looks like, it reminds me of a moat. That's what it is.
Starting point is 01:13:56 All right, yeah, well, we'll let you boys do your thing. We know you got a busy day, but we appreciate you coming through, bro, and wish you the best of luck. We're going to be there supporting. Thank you. Comear, Uzman. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go.
Starting point is 01:14:06 Let's go. Thanks. Love me, heavy, two and in five and three. Honorable! Oh, shit him down! This is the most exciting sport of planet Earth. I cannot get in on. There can be the light, the heat, the star, the lead, the Pokemon.
Starting point is 01:14:29 The fight you seek the pain you need. I am the light there. Say, go! Two Hawaiian big men in a super heavyweight clash. The power is the power. Disgusted. The bell has the power. But Nate Bernard wants to become a champion.
Starting point is 01:14:48 Both men, pocket sloppas. One of the sports best champions taken on the fastest rising star. I'm a saying man, baby. Night night. The best slap fighters on the planet ready to rock. You get.
