Starting point is 00:02:48 had other ideas. This is the Divisional Round Beat Down. Welcome to games with names That's Jack. I'm Julian Edelman, and we're on a search for the greatest game of all time. And today we have a special episode
Starting point is 00:03:13 with former teammate, Super Bowl champion, NFL journeyman, Lawrence Guy, and boy, is a great one. And if you haven't already, drop a like and to subscribe to Games with Names. Let's get into it. Let's go! Games with Names, a production of IHeart Radio. Welcome to Games with Names. names, today we are looking at the 2017
Starting point is 00:03:42 AFC divisional round Titans versus the Patriots with the one and only, the journeymen, but who retired a patriot, Lawrence Guy. Lawrence, LG, in one sentence. Why did you pick this game? Why? Because this is a... When you have Derek Henry as one of your top running backs
Starting point is 00:04:05 in the NFL and has been there for years, And I'm a, we all know, I'm not a pass rusher. I wish I was, but I got paid a lot differently. I'm a run stopper. And when you pick this game, you'll see we held them all the way down to those rushing yards. And all of a sudden, you'll see me disappear. And when you see me not in the game, that means I did my job. What is that job?
Starting point is 00:04:26 Stop the run. Stop the run. LG. Is this the greatest game of all time? No, the greatest game all time. It's got to be the Super Bowl games. But this is one of them. This is one of them.
Starting point is 00:04:38 Let's be honest. Like, we stopped to run into Super Bowl, too. I mean, I got, which one? 18. 18, 19? 18. I mean, we stopped a whole lot of everything in, in that 18 Super Bowl. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:54 The other year, like, we just, I wasn't, I had a bice up, you know, I had some stuff. Yeah, we, the other one, we were, yeah, you know. The 17 after this. Yeah, you know. This was different. But this was a great game, foundational game. Yes. excited to get the inside look of it. Now, what are you up to these days, LG? I got new twins.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Twins. New twins. New twins. Four months old? No. Paternal. No, that makes six for me. Six. This guy's got a basketball team and a six man. Let's go. Hey, six under nine. I'll off my hair because of them. Not genetics. You didn't have the heroin I was playing with you. I had some. Okay. You did have a little. Yeah. You know, I had a little peach fudge right here. That's why I cut it. Look at like Uncle Phil You know what they say They said hey look I got a little beard right here
Starting point is 00:05:43 They tried to grow a little hair Right there I had little hair right here Dude did people call you Did that just pop into my head Uncle Phil? A hundred percent We all used to call you Uncle Phil
Starting point is 00:05:51 I forgot about that No That's popping in your head You just made it up right now Did I make that up? You made up right now I just felt like it was there I felt like this is how it was in the training room
Starting point is 00:06:00 What are you talking about You went in there This randomly saying I was like what did it say Did let it be They're like Joe's on it today some revision of history. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:06:11 So you have twins, you have six kids, you're enjoying retirement. Are you watching ball these days? Of course, you got to watch it. You got to watch who's developing in the league and on top of that, how the league is expanding in the way they are globally
Starting point is 00:06:25 and how they are with talent. Like back in the day, you could have a handful of people that were really good on the team. Now you've got a bunch, it's just coming, diamond dozen, Like people at 6-5-6, 6, 6, 4, 4, 5s, ain't no 5-40s anymore.
Starting point is 00:06:44 Ain't no 6-40s anymore. People are moving as more physical. Let me face it. And ain't more physical because they softened the game up. Yeah. But there's freak animals out in this game, and it's surprisingly to see how they're moving and performing. And when you see those hard-hidden teams, it kind of pops out a lot.
Starting point is 00:07:02 You know, that's what the generation before ours, was saying about us and the generation before that was saying about the, I mean, it's just evolution. The athlete is better. I'm watching this World Cup right now and these guys are all fucking monsters. Messi's 39 years old still running 28 miles an hour. What is going on? What are they feeding these people? Must be those IV treatments they'd be doing.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Regardless. Who in the NFL right now in the league? What defensive run-stopping linemen have you found? love with. Oh, God. You know what? I'll be honest with you. Like Vita Vaya, it's been one of those cats that. Just by mass. He just by mass ability. He has that helloity field to him. Oh, I love because it's like a Jazeelda's running around. This is what people don't understand. When you get a person that's 350, 360, that's athletic. On a slim day. Oh, my God. It's impressive. It's like the old school BJ Raji. Oh, my. Oh, Raji. Very impressive.
Starting point is 00:08:06 how he's been doing it. Shout out Ron Brace, same draft class. It's just impressive and he's moving. I never forget, I think was last year or the year before just doing a pre-season game and all of a sudden he had gloves on and they just pissed him off.
Starting point is 00:08:22 He took the gloves off and ran the center all the way back. I said like, this is what happened when you piss off a big guy. He's just going to sit there and assure you. I know he's going through his own contract situation but it's worth it. No longer it's a run-solver. He He could pass rush.
Starting point is 00:08:37 He could do everything. I saw my man dropping coverage. Yeah. I don't know if he's going to get a interception, but still impressive you could do that. Who's that big white boy on Denver? What's his name? Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:08:48 You know what I'm talking about? I do. What's his name? Hold on. We got him. I know. 99. Because they got Cooper and what's his name on the edge?
Starting point is 00:08:59 Yeah, DJ Jones, Zach Allen. Zach Allen, I think. Zach Allen. He's been BC guy, BC guy. BC guy, another BC guy. What's up with BC? Limeon, Loki, lineman, you a little bit. What's your thoughts on the whole Miles Garrett going to L.A.
Starting point is 00:09:15 and potentially getting the big dog out of retirement. See, what do you do? And this is my thought process behind it. One, Miles Garrett just went to a way better situation. Way better. I was in Ohio. Girlfriends in the city. Everything.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Contending team. Oh, God, he's going to love it. About to have Olympic kids. No, no. Other buddy I feel for you, went from L.A. to Ohio. I got to. I feel bad for verse, but he's going to be rich. He's going to be very rich. He's going to be miserable, but he's going to be rich. He's still young. I mean, our guy, Miles, he's been in jail for a minute. So he's going to come out. He's going to have a great time. He's going to dominate. But the thing is, what do you do? Do you ask Aaron Dahl or come out of his retirement the first couple of weeks? Or do you
Starting point is 00:10:01 see how the season is going? Because you still got to develop around Miles, Garrett, and see who's going to compliment him on the field. Because we all know that you got to pass trust, you got to figure something else to lock it down. And when you look at the Rams last Super Bowl with Aaron Donald when he won it, look at the first half. He didn't play the way he was used to.
Starting point is 00:10:18 He was like, look, I'm going to play super fundamental football. I'm going to lock it down to make sure they ain't going to run. They ain't going to do this. They ain't going to create the gaps. Then all of a sudden in the second half, he turned that thing on. They're like, what is this? He was just waiting and buying his time.
Starting point is 00:10:32 So do you do the same thing? Wait that six months. I mean, six weeks to see how the team's developing. Then, hey, we're going to get you out of here possibly. We're winning or are we losing because you don't want to bring them back. And then you're losing. Now, six weeks into it, you got a good record if you're winning. They're going to have a good record.
Starting point is 00:10:49 They're going to have a good record. Then you put them both together. It's like when they did him and Sue. You put them both together. It's just going to be disruptive. Now, think about it. They got a team to win. Yeah, right now.
Starting point is 00:11:05 You got to ramp somebody up. You got to ramp them up. How hard is it? How old is it Aaron Donald right now? What is he? 36? No, like 34? Yeah, I think it's 33.
Starting point is 00:11:15 He's 35. 35? Just 35 and 35 in May. Yeah. He's still in shape, right? He could be. Football shape is different. That's what I mean.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Football shape is different. But he's Aaron Donald. He's a generation of player. Yeah. He's going to swim with everybody for sure. There's only been, what, three people that have you seen in the last 15 years that could swim a double team and be fast enough to get into the backfield? Yeah. Like, let's be honest.
Starting point is 00:11:40 Him, JJ. Like, those are the two people who are doing, Clowny was doing it for a while. Like, just swimming the two gap or swimming the double team. Like, Jerry McCoy didn't really swim double team like that. No. Like, they're over here doing stuff that is very difficult.
Starting point is 00:11:55 But can he swim double teams two years out, off the couch, retirement life? 100%. I mean, he is that good. He is, you've got to get something behind him. Like, hey, understand. what's going to happen. We got one person over here that's capable of doing it, and we have
Starting point is 00:12:10 another person. Your job is to protect them. Because both those, who's the other D-N. on the Rams? He's very good as well. He had 11 sacks last year, I believe. Young? Kobe Turner. Turner? And then, yeah, Byron Young. Byron Young. Young had 11. How many have, how many sacks do you have last year? 12. I thought he had 11. He's going to have more production because the whole lines and be sliding to fucking miles. Correct.
Starting point is 00:12:40 Then if you put Aaron Donald back in there, like, say, week, eight, week nine, then you're putting in a whole other animal there. Like, who do you block? You got to block somebody. That's, I mean, I would definitely. And that's during the time when the league kind of switches over
Starting point is 00:12:53 to that more running style, you get into those later weeks. Yeah. Early weeks, that makes sure it's trying to pass the ball around figuring out there. You got to see what they are. Yeah. Like, what I said,
Starting point is 00:13:02 you said he filmed the first three games. Not really because they're just going to throw stuff out there, but as a lot of it. those three games, we got all this film to look at, now we can get their character races of what's going on. Definitely. Then we're like, okay, bring them back, do this, who are you going to slide to? Who are you going to rush?
Starting point is 00:13:18 Are you going to run the ball? And not that many good running backs nowadays. Shula, can he handle all this talent? 100%. I mean, how can you not, right? If you got that name? If you're trading people in and you're bringing us in, of course you do. You know what you're getting into.
Starting point is 00:13:34 Man, so Rams are they your pick? Yeah. Right now. Right now the Rams are or everything. They've done everything. You see what they did in the draft. They're telling you right now. They're shooting for the stars right now. They're like, look, we need to get them in. And if you get that, like, no, we've seen some stuff, though. We've seen teams not make it. Like, I was in. 07. I was in Green Bay. I got drafted the Green Bay. What, they were undefeited except for the last game. When, when, uh, when they're saying. sat that would have been 1112 yeah so the lockout year they sat the half the team we lost it in that last game went to the to the uh uh uh the bi week going to the playoff play the giants and lost yeah going in the house town they threw a hell marry 15 and one's crazy that year yeah they
Starting point is 00:14:28 threw a hell merry going in a half town and made it we're like oh we lost it also those those philadelphia teams back with Donovic McNabb, T.O. Where they went to four, they went to four NFC championships, right? Like, they, they were a super team. But McNabb was like, he was a beast. And he was big and fast and it could throw the ball. And he had, they had so much talent. They had the, who was the running back?
Starting point is 00:14:54 What's his name? I used to love that team. He had two running backs, a little jitterbug one. Brian Westbrook? Brian Restbrook. Remember Brian Westbrook? I loved Brian. in Westbrook. They had Curse on defense. They had a
Starting point is 00:15:08 nom. Who they have? They had a good corner too. I forgot they. A curse was, was everything back then. Dude, he was a freak. He was a monster. I mean, it had Sproles too. Sproles. Now, what are your thoughts on the Patriots moves this offseason? I think they needed a wide receiver. And they seemed they needed two. And they did that. They needed to draft another lineman. You got Moses on on your right tackle. He's getting older, but he can help develop. I felt like that attitude he brings into that system when he came in last year kind of will help the young
Starting point is 00:15:39 guys. Yeah. Campbell's is, it's a long season. So he, like, they got him in the super. Like, it's a long season. People realize he had, he was coming off a month injury going into the playoffs as a, as a, as a, as a, he's a, he's a baby. And you have another rookie right there. Like, he ain't never, he's never experienced playoff speed, let alone, you know, so like, then he comes back and first game's back, he's in the goddamn playoffs. But these guys are going to tee off on them every time. But nobody talks about that, though. No one talks about that.
Starting point is 00:16:10 They think about that. Nobody talks about it. Nobody talks about. But that's great experience if you use it right. Yeah, because you got, you got preseason speed. Yeah. You got regular season speed. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Then you got playoff speed. And I never get, oh, and you got training camp speed. Those playoffs speeds get faster and faster, too. Oh, my God. That's amazing because as a Dean Lyman, you'd be telling young guys coming in. They'll be like, hey, this is training camp speed. It's like, what does that mean? I said, if you have a good relationship with the guy next to you,
Starting point is 00:16:36 you ain't going to go full force. You're going to calm me down this work technique. I said, but when you get into the preseason, it's going to kick up a little bit. I said, now if you're in the preseason in the second quarter and the third, fourth quarter, it's going to kick up a little bit more. That's the guy to try to make teams. Trying to make teams. And once you get to regular season, you'm like, what was all this during training camp?
Starting point is 00:16:54 I was holding it because I can't burn myself out. Then everybody's all tired during December. So, gee, you were brother-in-law in it, huh? Oh, 100%. That's what they call that. Defend that for us. Hey, all listeners,
Starting point is 00:17:07 they call that the old brother-in-law. You sit back right before the rep. You look at the other guy at the eyes, hey, buddy, you know, hey, let's take it out right here.
Starting point is 00:17:15 But they have to do an acting job. So they're actually acting like they're going hard, but they're not. It's fucking the biggest bullshit. Brother-in-law, what a term. Marcus Cannon and Shaq Mason
Starting point is 00:17:29 had a full understanding. Oh, Shag-Dat. Go on in too much. Oh, Shack. Into the 18 season. I was like, hey, bro, I'm like, I know it's a double team. I can read it. They're like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:40 I said, let's not do this this year. I'm off bicep surgery. He got the neck. I'm like, okay, let's make it look good. Then you're like, hey, bro, how many reps you got? They're like, oh, I got 15. I said, I got a half because Bill wants to be this way. Let's just make this look good.
Starting point is 00:17:58 I said, a couple hard steps. If you win, you win. If you don't, cool. But you ain't going to blow me off the ball. and I'm not trying to super pass rush cut them down to pass rush. We got you. We had a full conversation. It's like the planning of a WWB match backstage with the rest of the rest of the-
Starting point is 00:18:12 full, which is complete opposite of how we were at the skill group. You had to go. Like we're at one-on-ones. It's fucking Braveheart. We got guys with fucking flags and shit. Our coaches are fighting. Like it's literally Braveheart. We got to do release drills.
Starting point is 00:18:32 Guys are getting hemmed up. you're getting an elbow here or there could be a pre-practice fight. I mean, it's fucking, it's bullshit. The only time we had to go full speed was half-line. Half-line was nine-on-seven. Texas drill,
Starting point is 00:18:47 nine-on-seven, and goal line. That's the only time we had to really go. Now, I'm not saying that. Now, granted, the linemen... We hit every day. They hit every day, and also, they note, like, there's a way to practice in the national football league.
Starting point is 00:19:02 Correct. So like if you got some wild ass kid on the D line, offense line, and guys are on the fucking ground, that is how guys get hurt. And that's what we don't want, especially in practice prepping for a game. So like,
Starting point is 00:19:20 they're not necessarily always brother-in-law, but they know the burst. They call it thud. You guys, you hit and you go and you, once it gets to a place where someone can get hurt, we choke it down. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:34 So that's what it is. You never dump somebody in practice. Can't dump someone. You don't run them back. Can't cut someone. Like you'll see on a quick game protection sometimes, you'll see the O-Lyman. They love it because they'll go,
Starting point is 00:19:45 hey, I'm cut. They just say cut. And like, one of these guys will fucking knock the ball down. The offensive coach will start yelling at the defensive coach. What the fuck is that? We can't cut him. This guy's bitching at this guy.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Fucking Tom's getting. mad. The equipment kids getting yelled at because the ball got spiked over there. I mean, it's... So 19 bills are a defensive coordinator. Let's just be real. He was.
Starting point is 00:20:15 And I'll never forget in that meeting. Lawrence, what are you doing? He cut me. What do you mean? He cut me. He said, LG, there ain't no fucking way. You got cut five times in a row.
Starting point is 00:20:26 I said he did. He said it. Look. He put his hand out. He cut me. He went to the offense. And I stopped doing the fucking. cuts and block them.
Starting point is 00:20:33 In every single practice, I said, he cut me, bro. He said, you got to just fucking around and being tired, huh? We got to hit the hill? No, he just cut me. I don't know what to tell you. I said, it's a protection. And he swear to God, he said, the next person that gets cut and bashed that damn ball down.
Starting point is 00:20:49 He said, I'm going to sit you on the lap. And that's exactly what happened. As soon as you cut me, technically, we have to weigh about three seconds, because that's how long it takes you get off the ground. You can just go back. It's for Count Mississippi. here in the goddamn fucking in a pro football
Starting point is 00:21:05 practice. Three Mississippi people are getting up it goes, it goes what the fuck are two, all right, we can go pursuit. And then we're smacking balls and we got lyman fighting,
Starting point is 00:21:18 you know, the intercacies, those little in law, like those little in-laws of sport practice. Nobody talks about, but it's hilarious. I can't believe you remember that.
Starting point is 00:21:30 Or the cut thing. The cut thing was great. This guy's over here saying cut. Ball gets knocked down. Josh is yelling at fucking Flo. And Flo's yelling at Bill. Bill's yelling at this. Bill's laughing,
Starting point is 00:21:42 twirling his thing. Like, ah. He loves it. Because you remember the knee brace thing for us, right? Yeah. We had to wear knee braces. Always.
Starting point is 00:21:49 And somehow, some way, I thought in my mind, I could have put black tape on. Oh, no. And I was like, I'm going to put black tape on. So I'm putting black tape on.
Starting point is 00:21:58 And I'm like, okay, we run out. he started to walk through early. I have this roll of black tape going down my leg. They're looking at me just like, what the fuck are you doing? I'm like, bro,
Starting point is 00:22:10 it's my knee breath. It's the roll of tape is on your leg still. I'm like, are we really practicing today, though? Like, are we really going to do this? This is when you got a guy who hasn't been around comes in, thinks you got a fucking piece of, we had to stop practice so Lawrence guy can go get his fucking, and his goddamn braces on.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Get the knee braces out. If you go look. And you do this with receivers if the knee pad wasn't over the knee. Oh my gosh. Or thigh pads if you didn't have your thigh pads in, which let me tell you something right now. Someone hits your goddamn knee or thigh
Starting point is 00:22:44 with these little fucking pads. It ain't doing shit. It ain't doing anything. You know what I mean? But like that was like his thing. He'd like he'd send LG. You don't got knee pads. Your knee pads to like you go back in.
Starting point is 00:22:58 We'll be right back after this quick break. You've heard the chaos. Now you can see it. Hello. Oh, my gosh. Watch all your favorite podcasts from start to finish, right inside the free I-Hare Radio app. Gets the blood going up.

Starting point is 00:23:27 Open the free I-Hare radio app. Search video podcasts and tap watch. What's up, fam? I'm sports journalist Ari Chambers. Hey, what's up y'all? It's your girl, Sam J. And we're the host of everyone watches women's sports, a new podcast from Together and I Heart Women's Sports.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Because let's be real. Women's sports is giving us way too much to talk about these days. So Kelsey Finler, she became the first female solo roer to go from California to Hawaii. My first thought is, like, what's up with the snacks? Like, what are we eating? The highlights, the rivalries, the break. Out Stars, the moments to take over your entire timeline.
Starting point is 00:24:02 And the conversations that start during the game and somehow keep going all week. Every week, we're breaking down the biggest stories across women's sports. Naomi Osaka showing out. She beat Sabalinka. Shout out to you, Naomi. You get the palm, Naomi. You get the palm for that. Because we're not just interested in what happened.
Starting point is 00:24:19 We're interested in why everyone's talking about it. Because everyone watches women's sports. Listen to everyone watches women's sports. On the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, it'll be hilarious too, because you know those little, them in the red protector pads. Yeah. Well, those were my pads from my legs.
Starting point is 00:24:40 Yeah. And I was like, they don't do nothing. And I remember we was talking to something. I was like, look, if we all don't go out with knee pad or knee braces and we just wear these, we should be good. He can't send us all back in. Oh. Oh, no. No, he's like, Brandon, don't get their goddamn knee braces.
Starting point is 00:24:58 And we're all sitting there. He's like, what are we going to do? He's like, we're going to do. now. I'm like, bro, over to some knee neat things. Then he put the don't joids on us in like 20. I died on this horse. I said, look, I'm not wearing
Starting point is 00:25:11 these don't joints. Like, I can't perform and he's big old knee. Don joys are like the actual custom brace that like, they're like $1,000 braces. Great for protection, but it's very hard for these guys to move in them. And I told them, I said, look. I said,
Starting point is 00:25:28 and I was arguing with him. It was me and David Andrews. I'm like, look, I said, Dean Lyman, what about athleticism, right? And that's what we're a harp on. Dean Lyman more athletic than offensive lineman. I said, this kills my mobility and moving. He said, I understand that, but it's going to protect your ACL. I said, well, if my ACL goes in practice, we ain't practicing, right?
Starting point is 00:25:47 And people are on the ground. He said, well, what happens to something this happens? I was like, that's this way of football. Then all of a sudden, those gray daddy sweatpants came on. I was like, look, for two years, you go look at training, he kept on wearing sweatpants. I didn't have to lose weight. I took off the pants.
Starting point is 00:26:03 I said, look, I'd rather sit here in a hundred-degree weather and sweat pants and wear these knee braces. It was just the sweat pants and I sit. And every single time Bill twirling, his little whistle at me, looking at, looking at Moses are training. Like, you think he has his pads on? And Mo be like, don't go over there. I'd be like, I don't got him.
Starting point is 00:26:23 I said, I'm not going to put him on, bro. And I threw him in a... I threw him in a trash can. So what did he do? send you in every time. After the Great Daddy's one on, he left me alone. He knew it. We all knew it.
Starting point is 00:26:37 Nobody else could do it, though. It was just me and sweatpants. He was like, well, it is what it is. Fucking defense is to whatever they want. I get bitched that for wearing a red glove. Because you could see a holding. This guy ain't even wearing goddamn knee braces. Let's just be honest.
Starting point is 00:26:51 The red gloves kind of saved you in the AAC championship. For holding in the red? No, not for that ball that hit the ground. Oh, yeah, they did. The ball to hit the ground. No, they touched the glove. Yeah. Yeah, we know.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Are you talking about AFC Championship? AAC Championship. I didn't touch it. We threw a pick the next play. We didn't touch it. We didn't. I wish we did. We didn't though pick the next play.
Starting point is 00:27:17 We threw a pick the very next play. No, we did. Yeah, we did. Two plays later. There we go. That's not the next place. Two plays later. Two plays.
Starting point is 00:27:24 Same thing. But you guys understand. A pick is way better than being in our red zone. This is true. And I remember seeing that. No, they had a return back to like where it happened. So I'm just telling you. It was so much better than that.
Starting point is 00:27:37 It doesn't matter. Everyone brings up that. Oh, you touched. It doesn't matter. We threw a fucking pick two plays later. It matters for defense because it's a momentum. You're like, bro. You're like, okay, we're good.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Oh, no, it definitely matters for defense. Because I remember that year I tore up. But I'm talking about like from the other side. The other side didn't matter for you. It didn't matter for us though. No, it definitely matters for you guys. I'm like, that's passion of my homes. I'm like, bro, this is already hard.
Starting point is 00:27:59 I tore a Patela that game. You guys were, like, bro. You guys were holding them, too. You guys were owning them in the first. If you have any look at that game, like, I hurt my knee because Dante High Tower threw his guy into my leg as I'm trying to throw a guy to the ground. Lake throws, you know how that goes. And I was like, oh, you got me, bro.
Starting point is 00:28:21 You know what's wrong? You got me. I was like, is this payback from concussing you a couple years ago? You're like, no, no. I said, it's payback. I knew it. It's all in your eyes, you were going to do this to me. And all of a sudden, all that being said, they're on their red zone.
Starting point is 00:28:36 I couldn't plant technically on my leg. And all of a sudden, I misread it, put my leg down, the offensive line, and threw me five yards to the side, touchdown. We get the ball back, touchdown over time. I said, well, I said, if I were to stop them that point, it would have bled the clock out, we could never would have done it. I put that play, me getting my ass, what a reason why we want to play? What do we call that?
Starting point is 00:28:58 We call that, what's the, what's the, must score situation, let them score? Is it Rolex? If one is Rolex, one is Highway, there's so many of them. I mean, we call them Rolex. We call it on offense. The offense decided it would be Rolex. I think that's the same thing for us.
Starting point is 00:29:13 Times more important than points. Just let them go. That's for us. It would be to not score. For them, we got to pull them into the end zone. And let them score. Whatever it costs, you got to pull them in. What's the biggest situation?
Starting point is 00:29:29 football fact thing you learned at the Patriots because you've been on a bunch of different teams. When you came there, what was something that's like, man, that's different. Quatro. It was just one. Quattro situation. Like, look, either game is it three point play or a six point play? You got to figure that out.
Starting point is 00:29:51 And then like, if we could prevent the six point play, take the three point play. What's a three point play and what's a six point play? Three point plays. Phil goes eight point point. a touchdown. You got to figure it out where you got to go. These are situations, and I could have said that all that wrong, but these are situations where if we're in it in a field going range, do not let them get into a position to get a touchdown,
Starting point is 00:30:13 keep them in this field going range. We'd rather give up three points than six points. So how does Quattro bring it, come in this? Shit, I don't know. So Quatro, you guys are, you're calling a different defense? No, that's just a terminology. we at. And on the field, like, look, three point, six point. Don't give up a penalty.
Starting point is 00:30:35 Don't jump off size. Don't hold. Don't do anything. Just keep them in field goal range. We don't want the six points. And that's what one knows is like we don't want the six point at all. We just want to give them three points because we had faith that the offense will go down. We had a kicker.
Starting point is 00:30:50 We could kick the field goal and we had a quarterback that could get it in. It's the same thing. Like, hey, if we look at the clock, we're down by a time. touchdown or we're down on three points to give him the ball in two minutes. Do whatever it takes to give him in two minutes because we have either timeouts or burn and he's a situational football so we understand how to get there and get it back. Or one of those like, look, how many seconds we got on the clock? If we stopped them on a fourth down, if it's four for one, we get that stop,
Starting point is 00:31:19 we had to make sure that there was 40 seconds left on the clock because we have faith that we could get down there, kick a field goal, or score touchdown. So everyone on defense is aware of that market. Everybody, because you start yelling on the side line. You mean to tell me J.C. Jackson knew what? Everybody knew everything. I don't know, man. And they be yelling on his sidewise.
Starting point is 00:31:41 I think you just guys, yeah, you cover him. That too. That too. You got to say that too. But it's one of those situations like on offense, you understood. Like, look, if we score fast enough and we get out of bounds, it's the same thing. We'll give them opportunity. Yeah, same thing.
Starting point is 00:31:59 Like, hey, understand we have to play sideline football, or we letting them go in. It's just all these factors. And at Dean Liman, we don't have to learn a lot. Let's just be honest. Our menu is like this. And it came to one year that me and Bill was talking. He said, how do you feel about the plays? I was like, they're showing them down a little bit more because it was just too much going on for the group that we had.
Starting point is 00:32:24 But once you understand the knowledge in the situation was going on, who's running the ball. who's the quarterback, who's their kicker. Can he make the field goal ranges? Can we mess them up doing this? Can we protect our kicker on the field goals, which was very easy? And can we get Tom with enough time on the clock to make sure we did it?
Starting point is 00:32:45 So we try to get no penalty. We try to do no mental error. He tried to do nothing that would hurt the team. And then as we said before, most people ain't worth three penalties. No. We found out the hard way. Who just came on and said Grunk's worth?
Starting point is 00:33:01 It had been Kyle. I think it was. It was. Kyle said, Gronk is worth three penalties. Yeah. Oh, my God. He's right.
Starting point is 00:33:10 He's right. I saw when he sat in. I was just like, he's right. But the meeting itself, I'm like, Hogan was balling that year before. And he came to the bottom of the total.
Starting point is 00:33:24 I'm like, you ain't worth three penalties. then Brunk three. I'm like, I know he's worth three. Then all of a sudden we hear, hey, don't go out doing nothing crazy. And grunt goes swimming with sharks.
Starting point is 00:33:35 And I'm just like, I said, look. And I never forget when the D-Ly-Ly. I'm like, what's going on? Explain that. I don't think we've heard that story. I don't think we have either. So Bill,
Starting point is 00:33:48 every time going into the off-season, going to Memorial Day, going to the off-season, nothing good happens after midnight. nothing good happens in the off season because there's just so much time on people's hands. They don't know what to do. Let's not go and do something.
Starting point is 00:34:05 Let's not do something crazy. Let's not do something crazy guys. This is when everyone gets in trouble. Then pulls out the whole rap sheets. Statistics, rap sheets, articles. Look, this guy, he's talking about an extension. He just got a DUI. How do you think that extension looks now?
Starting point is 00:34:24 And if you look in the bottom of the paragraph, of course, they say his salary and the years he plays for on his team. And look at his slab dick on a comment on it. I'm like, look, then all of a sudden we get back and I'll never forget this because I'm out there. I think this had him in the 18th season. I'm out there. I just have bicep surgery. I'm going spinner shark fishing, catch on least. I got in the water with a giant
Starting point is 00:34:56 grouper out of this cot. I'm like, look, my bicep surgery held up. I'm only eight weeks out. And I'm like, well, I'm not going to post this because I'm going to get in trouble. Yeah. And all of a sudden, I'm like, is grot swimming with sharks?
Starting point is 00:35:10 Then he's just like, what are we doing here, guys? And I was like, look, and I never forget, we had a young guy. He said, I said, look, we are tweeted the same. but we are not all the same. I said, just keep it like that. But we all get treated the same.
Starting point is 00:35:30 We're not all the same. That's a different caliber of person. He could do what the hell he wants to do. I mean, you probably had 15 touchdowns that year. Oh, dominated that year. Dominated. It was hilarious. He did the grong, man.
Starting point is 00:35:45 The grong get to do what the gron want to do. Damn right, baby. Hey, that was like the time I was telling somebody, you brought your daughter in for treatment. and you guys were in the hot tub together and you guys were like, oh yeah. So I'm going there for a doctor and I'm getting treatment
Starting point is 00:35:58 and I'm like, who's daughter's over there in the hot tub? I was like, it's Jewel. I said, we could bring our kids. I said, what do you mean? He said, that's Jules. I said, you don't got to say nothing more. I get it.
Starting point is 00:36:15 Two years later, I'm like, who's this? I said, that's my son. He's going to hang out over here. Can you guys babysit on them? We can put some blueie on here. really I said, look, I said, I'm just following my leader's lead right now. My leader said I could bring my child in here. You guys can't tell me shit.
Starting point is 00:36:30 And they're like, I just made an all-decade team. I said, I said, I ain't on his caliber, but ain't nobody else as good as me right now on this defense line. So it is what it is. There's a little perks, baby. Hey, we try to keep it like Google. You go to Google, you want to stay at the work. We bring our family at the work.
Starting point is 00:36:49 If I'm getting my goddamn ankle's work, though, my little baby girl. is going to be in the cold punch in the hot tub. And that's what it was. And Whalen's going to be chasing her ass around. You want to know why? Because I think I was making $10 million that year. So I think it's a big investment. What are you going to do?
Starting point is 00:37:07 We didn't have child care. We've seen the report. We've seen the report cards. We've seen the report. They got child care now. I know. It's too late. Wayland was my child care.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Jim Whalen and the traders were my child care. Don't worry. No, I appreciate them. They were always the best. Lily still talks about that. It's great. The bozee balls.
Starting point is 00:37:29 And she goes, when are we going to play with the big balls again? I'm like, we're good. Hey, little in there getting tort all shots
Starting point is 00:37:34 and everything, bro. Hey, those are the memories. You got a fucking jockstrap Lily's played on a bozeo ball. Just another day at work.
Starting point is 00:37:42 It's just another day at work. Oh, that's awesome. Hey, that's one of you walking there. Like, hey, bro, put a towel on.
Starting point is 00:37:46 Like, well, I'm bringing kids in here. Well, Put the fucking towel on, bro. Like, all right. Oh, my God. It's like the first time people see women reporters in the locker room.
Starting point is 00:37:55 They don't know to act. Yeah. I said, like, just get dressed normally. They're a professional, bro. Yeah, but like, what you mean? I said, I hear you. Just get dressed normally. It is what it is.
Starting point is 00:38:03 There's a burr watching out there by them reporters. Don't get it twisted. And it's an old dude. I said, why are you standing right there? I don't know. Oh. Oh, gosh. Who is?
Starting point is 00:38:22 Who, Hey. What about what Jonathan used to come on? Oh, Jonathan'd go to the scale. Butt naked. But naked. He walked from the locker room,
Starting point is 00:38:33 butt naked to the scale. I would see Jonathan Kraft. Why are we parading like that? He would be up there in a suit. Right. And I'd see him doing 15 pull-ups in a suit. In a suit. Wow.
Starting point is 00:38:42 He'd have like a 15-minute break from a meeting or something. He'd go into our weight room. He'd do like this. it in. Then he'd go back to his mean and he'd come out. He'd be in the sauna, butt naked and shit. RKK and his Spanish walking in a wall. I'm like, look,
Starting point is 00:38:56 it was the locker room feel. And they used to use it. They used to use it. And it's the only owners in the NFL that will interact with their players that way. And people don't get it. Like other owners don't interact with players like that. They come, they show that he's in the meet, Archie K's in the meaning.
Starting point is 00:39:12 Jonathan was walking, talking. They'll have a full conversation with you and be normal. And it's weird. Right? Yeah, there's other teams he say, well, we get these perks. I said, but you don't interact with your owners and when you do interact them
Starting point is 00:39:24 is one or two things. You just got a shit ton of money or they drafted you. And they're like, we wanted you and they're trying to hype you up. I've only seen that a couple of times, but like, RKK and Johnson will talk, have a full conversation.
Starting point is 00:39:35 It was awesome, but it would be funny. Oh, bro. That's like when I... It's like you're at the YMCA, not the YMCA, you're at the country club or something. Yeah, bro. And they're asking, so when a rookie comes in a for the first time or veteran comes in.
Starting point is 00:39:49 They say, who is that? I go, that's your boss. I said, that's your boss, but next is weighing in. That's the lower right corner. Lower right corner, baby, LRC. LRC. Is you going to put a towel on? Yeah, when he gets back to his locker room.
Starting point is 00:40:04 It's like, well, I said, it is what it is, bro. Hey, it is what it is. It's a perfect segue into, you've been on a bunch of teams. I want to hear your biggest takeaways, rapid, quick fire on your teams. Ready? Oh, that's fine. Packers. Green Bay was awesome.
Starting point is 00:40:21 Family oriented. Family oriented. A, beer, cheese, and wine, and brats is what they know about there. Brots. I would love to go there. The rumors are true. I love that. And they tell you this immediately.
Starting point is 00:40:31 Once you get in there, you're either going to have a heavy bill or are you going to get, engage or marry and find somebody. I don't get it. Got to fly people in. I, hey, they tell you that. The Colts. Colts. Colts.
Starting point is 00:40:47 Coach was unique. I had Bruce. I didn't have Chuck. Yeah. So Coach was unique. I had, Frini, I had Massage,
Starting point is 00:40:57 Corey Ridding. I had all those great players all in one. And Corey Ritting really helped me out in a way of honing. And like, look, you're here we're going to do this.
Starting point is 00:41:06 He sat there. He didn't care about with the position. He had like, it is what it is. And I asked about that thing. I never thought I'm going to leave in Indiana.
Starting point is 00:41:15 This when Chuck came back. Was Daniel Mira there when you were there? I don't think so. No, he used to play on my Kent State team. No. He was there. Maybe it would have been, it would have been like 9, 10. It's like 3.
Starting point is 00:41:29 Yeah, I had Adam, had all them. It's just one of those situations. Well, I thought I was going to stay there. I was like, that was a dope team. I was playing good. I was on the light side too. And I was like, okay, Chuck came in and fired every. But the whole second string on the D-Line got fired.
Starting point is 00:41:44 Me, Drake Nevis. Drake Nevis was their third round paper. I want to say in that lockout, gone. Austin, I'm like, okay. I'm going to say goodbye. All right. Then came back and they got fired again. Okay.
Starting point is 00:41:56 You didn't get to see Jim Merset naked in the locker room? No, no. Oh, man. Of all the other owners, I thought he might be that guy. Playing the guitar. Yeah. Jim be aware. So the way to get in the building, there's a main building here, and this is the
Starting point is 00:42:09 bubble. Jim will pull up that Rolls Royce right there, smell like pure cigars right in the middle of the walkway. You have to go in there. And I was like, what is this? He said, you can do whatever he wants. But every, every Christmas, you got a cool-ass Christmas gift. That's what I heard.
Starting point is 00:42:23 And you get a pecan pie because that's his favorite pie. No, man, that's nice. We got speakers. The year after that, they got Xbox ones. And every single team I ever been on. After that, I said, are we getting something for Christmas? They're like, no, they pay your salary. I'm like, man.
Starting point is 00:42:40 I said, Erce was so cool. Did get a movie pass. That's tight. The Patriots. We did get the movie pass. You get the movie pass. Yeah, we got three movies, though. So we got Packers, family-oriented.
Starting point is 00:42:50 We have Colts, are just Chuck is our initial takeaway. Chargers. I don't understand why I went to the Chargers. I'll be honest with you. San Diego Chargers. I don't understand. You want to guess who was the defensive coordinator? Who?
Starting point is 00:43:03 John Pagano. Oh. I said, like, if you don't like me, your brother don't like me, you don't like me. Why the fuck am I here? Yeah. Then I remember Tom, the GM, he's one that brought me in. I was like, okay. And I was just like, look, I don't know how long I won't be here
Starting point is 00:43:20 because he clearly don't like me. But we had a great room right there. We had Corey Legent, Kenner-Reyaz, Sean Lissmore with me. We had real good guys, young guys. So we was able to develop in that whole year together. But the unique thing about that was when you think about the Chargers, you think about Philip Rivers and how a great guy he was. it is all the stories are real.
Starting point is 00:43:51 Everything, it is what it is. He, you know I was Catholic. He texted me personally, hey, we got mass at this time. I'll see you there. This is what Roman is. I'm like, just get on a team. Like, someone in it, some of it, how Tom does it. Like, hey, I want to introduce myself.
Starting point is 00:44:04 This is who are. This is our family aspect of it. Facility of it was trash. Like, hot tubs were green. People were getting, like, staff. Like, it was so weird. We had a tent as a, as a, uh, A cafeteria.
Starting point is 00:44:18 Like Mercer waiting to happen. They literally had a tent in a pool. Oh. Like the tent, like once season is over, the tent's gone. They catered it. And funny story, I went to training camp. Somebody got a cramp in the middle of that pool. And we're like, oh, shit, he's going to drive.
Starting point is 00:44:31 Yeah, he might. And he's over there holding himself going on the water. And we're like, bro, you almost drowning in a pool. I said, I don't know how it's going to be. But again, I don't know while I was there. And when I was doing it, I don't feel. I don't feel fucking for you guys to have green. pool in a goddamn tent.
Starting point is 00:44:49 You got 75 and sunny every fucking day. It's way better to go out in December to that green tent and that green water than it is when you're walking into fucking Foxborough and it's pitch black and it's two degrees and you leave the facility. It's pitch black and it's about
Starting point is 00:45:05 negative two degrees. Yeah, it's my sense. Quality of life is probably insane. San Diego needs a team. But they should. They hydroceited their grass though. How about that? What's that? Hydrocy. Everybody knows Hydro season is right? They put the little liquid in the water and they just spray it.
Starting point is 00:45:21 That's how they did it because the city took care of the field. So the shit was that. But the weather is great. Weather is insane. Oh, my God. You put the sweats on that field. I thought the field was decent in 13. No, the field is good, but the facility.
Starting point is 00:45:33 Oh, my God. That's why they're out. That's why they're in Los Angeles. Honestly, we went and checked out. I went and checked out a training camp practice last year. And the facility that they're at now right by the, it was El Segundo, is spectacular. They have a fucking Soho house or something in the facility. Whoa. It's, it's incredible. I was just thinking like, man, day-to-day life coming to this every day would be so like,
Starting point is 00:45:57 no, you didn't get that joy. You got darkness. We'll be right back after this quick break. You've heard the chaos. Now you can see it. Hello. My gosh. Women's sports is giving us way too much to talk about these. days. So Kelsey Finler, she became the first female solo rower to go from California to Hawaii. My first thought is like, what's up with the snacks? Like, what are we eating? The highlights, the rivalries, the breakout stars, the moments that take over your entire timeline.
Starting point is 00:47:03 And the conversations that start during the game and somehow keep going all week. Every week, we're breaking down the biggest stories across women sports. Naomi Osaka showing out, she beat Sabalinka. Shout out to you, Naomi. You get the palm, Naomi. You get the palm for that. Because we're not just interested in what happened. Starting point is 00:47:44 It was Mary, I believe her name was. I'm like, Mary Blake, we got to go. I said, I can't be late to this meeting. Oh, Mary. All right. What about Baltimore? Loved it there. Jonathan, Joe,
Starting point is 00:47:58 ruin his name, JJ, with the outside linebacker for the Baltimore Raven that was in San Diego, put his stamp on my name when they called him about me in Baltimore. And when I went up there and I was like, Clarence Brooks and, like, Don Johnson for the charges, those were one of the best coaches I've had. they're honest. They're like, look, this is what's going on behind the scenes.
Starting point is 00:48:22 I'm never going to sugarcoat this. I'm going to tell you how they're telling you in the room. I ain't going to lie to you. And when I went in there, got off the flight, Elvis Dumaville's there. We're doing a scout team. He looked at me. He said, I don't think you got it. And Clarence was like, he just got off a flight, bro.
Starting point is 00:48:40 You're like, what are you doing? And from there, he was just, they just developed, right? When they said, hey, black and blue conference, that is a black and blue conference for that reason. Hey, we had Hello dinada. We had St. Smith Senior. We have Yanda. We had Terrell.
Starting point is 00:48:58 We had... Who's the Aiken? Remember what's his name for Gino? So he just left him with any that year. I got there. He was a beast too. He was, he was killed. All these people was there.
Starting point is 00:49:12 And when you realize they teach you how to be a real delinionment. When I say that, there's, there's, there's, this bluff stuff out there, then they're like, hey, I'm trying to rock you. And that's exactly what it is. And I can tell you the day it happened,
Starting point is 00:49:27 we're playing a game, and we're about to play Pittsburgh, or we just finished playing in Pittsburgh, and CB looked at it and said, you guys are acting too soft for me. He said, let me show you how it is. And he put a film up a hello to Nada
Starting point is 00:49:40 going and hitting big Ben and the chin with his elbow. And I'm talking about full force, 365, elbow shot straight to the chin. He said he wasn't trying to hurt him. He was trying to send him a message. And I was like, I get you. So they developed de-alignment.
Starting point is 00:49:56 It got me to why I was for the physicality level of the league what I needed to be. They didn't care. It was the first-round draft pick of the last draft pick. We all know politics. But they're like, if we're going to play and we got a chance to win, we're going to play the best people. And that's what they were doing.
Starting point is 00:50:12 And I got to learn from that aspect of it. And again, I was going to leave. When I got my contract from New England, I sent it there. I said, hey, you guys match it. I'll stay. And they were like, no, we're good. I said, fuck y'all then. I'm gone.
Starting point is 00:50:26 Our ball's going to do good in Giants? I think he is. I think it's the right coast for that atmosphere. New York is hard to play in, how to coach in. John is that person. And I think that team wants to win, and they're going to practice hard. And that's the difference is when you get a team that doesn't really want to do that physicality and practice.
Starting point is 00:50:44 And that's what made New England so special. They do a lot of physicality. Perfect transition into the Patriots. See? And that's the difference. And John's going to do good there. And when we got to New England, I'll tell you this, New England.
Starting point is 00:50:58 I went there. When I got there, we're doing OTAs and off-season workout. I'm like, all we're doing is running. And in Baltimore, we're already hitting. We got suspended for putting full paths on people, for shadow walking. And I was like, okay, we're doing a passing camp.
Starting point is 00:51:16 and I'm never used to a passing camp. I'm over there talking to Devon McCordy. Like, this ain't nothing. I could run all day. I could do this. And he was like, okay. And he's like, man, we must be solved. Then all of a sudden we put pass on.
Starting point is 00:51:30 I said, what the hell are we doing here? I was like, we're doing seven on a half line, nine on seven. One on one. One's. We're doing live fucking goal line. I said, this is ridiculous one on ones. I said, I said, this shit is hard. I tore bicep going into the third prison game.
Starting point is 00:51:50 I had no idea it was torn. I just woke up and this shit was hurting. And I was like, it is what it is. I'm like, bro. But when I got there and I tell people this, build the team, the guys, the people in the building will push you to a point where you need to be.
Starting point is 00:52:10 And if you cannot reach that point and continue to climb, you fold. and you see so many people retire and because it's too hard. But they're like, look, we're going to get you, just like the military, we'll get you to your breaking point. Once you reach that breaking point,
Starting point is 00:52:23 we're going to surpass it. And you're going to be the best version of yourself. If you can mentally do it and you can swallow your pride, you'll become the best player you could be. And that's what happened in New England. It was a special moment that I realized that I understood that. Like I tore bicep, we're doing 9-0-07. I end up from a fire technique all the way,
Starting point is 00:52:45 down the island branch out of nose and Bill's like, Lawrence, what the fuck are you doing over here next? A big branch. You're over here under the Fitec? I said, my bicep gone. He said, you chose to come out here. I said, you're right. Right there.
Starting point is 00:53:01 I chose to be on this field. That means no matter what happens, I have no excuse. I got to go out there and perform because that tape in the sky, the eye in the sky, don't ever lie. Don't ever lie. And he's not going to say, oh, he had a bad game because of his shoulder, ankle because of his leg.
Starting point is 00:53:17 None of that shit. When you put it on tape, it's on tape. And he's like, he harped on it. If you put it on tape, it is there. It's going to stay in the archives forever. Forever. And then lastly, quick, we got to move on, the Bengals, quick. I sucked. All right, let's go back in time to January 13th,
Starting point is 00:53:39 2018. And this is a segment where we like to go over what was going on in pop culture, the other life. Number one movie, Jamanji, welcome to the jungle. Actually, fire. I love that. The first one, the remake, I was real hungry for the old Jamonji, and they was fun. Robben, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:56 Remake was good. It was fucking Jack Black, right? Yeah, I love that group. I love that group. Number one song, perfect by Ed Shearin and Beyonce, Paddington 2, pitch perfect three, Molly's game. We're all in the box office. The Tidepod Challenge.
Starting point is 00:54:13 Never forget. Hit the internet. And I think Gronk had to give a PSA on not to eating Tidepods because kids were dying. Great true for that. I think we showed that. We showed it in the meeting room. He said, I know we're giving out these Tide pods,
Starting point is 00:54:27 but we got to inform you guys to watch this video. And I said, like, I bet one of y'all dumbasses would do it. And it's probably on defense. They do look so delicious, though, don't they?
Starting point is 00:54:37 Jesus. Oh, God. Robbie G. Robbie G. Let him know. Eagle. Look, Don't guys don't eat these
Starting point is 00:54:44 That's a face of a serious man Telling you not to eat a tripod It's a phrase of a man that probably ate a tie pod Take it from me Oh my God Super Bowl champions Philly MVP Tom NC2A champion Bama
Starting point is 00:55:02 Was that the last Bama one That was the one where they Was it their last one yeah Baker Mayfield wins a Heisman Cleveland Browns go Oh and 16 First team to go winless since the Detroit Lions in 2008.
Starting point is 00:55:16 DeMarcus Cousins has 44 points, 24 rebounds, 10 assists, in 132-128 double overtime win against the Bulls. How crazy. Insane stat line. Bougie, shout out, Boogie Cousins. Hey, the Cleveland Brown is the reason why the whole charges, coach staff got fired. They were going to go to same 0-16.
Starting point is 00:55:38 They beat them that one year. Yeah. They're 1 in 15. Yeah, we was us in Baltimore and that, and we're getting spanked by the Cleveland Browns. A block of Philgo going into house, having me running back, boom. And I never run the sideline, Trail Sucks was like,
Starting point is 00:55:55 we're going to be the only team to lose to the fucking Cleveland Browns. We suck. And I was like, if we lose, we do. We definitely suck ass. But they fired everybody on the charges stuff. They're like, you guys are this bad. You lost to the Cleveland Brown. Wow.
Starting point is 00:56:10 Remember they were locking up the old coolers? Oh, yeah. That was the best. And then Baker came in and broke the coolers out, right? Baker, remember that Bud Light thing? Full circle, yeah. It was each, each, they couldn't open the cooler until a win. That was some insane technology.
Starting point is 00:56:29 In the same time, they hit the button. Chains fell off. Oh, man. Baker Mayfield, my favorite quarterback. I love Bigger. Oh, I like that. How the buck's going to be this year? They're going to be, if they forgot this Vita V-Ve or stuff.
Starting point is 00:56:40 That'll be good. No, I'm not let you know why he's my favorite quarterback. Lay it on, let on us. He threw me an interception. Did he? That's true. Oh, yeah. That's right.
Starting point is 00:56:47 We're playing them in New England. Oh, yeah. I jumped to snap because I looked at him. I looked at Bill. I look, it is what it is. I'm going to do it. And I jumped it. And they're like, okay.
Starting point is 00:56:59 And I looked him in the eyes. I was like, he's going to throw me the fucking ball. And he's like, and I just caught on the side of my head. Like, this motherfucker threw me the ball. I said, hell yeah. Let's go. I said, you've forever to be my favorite quarterback. I forgot about that.
Starting point is 00:57:16 Right now I remember it. Oh, went to the sideline, people like me. I never seen you get off the ball that fast. They said, because I wasn't allowed to. I said, but you get me on the edge, on the pass. I'm going to jump to snap. I don't got to fucking hold the double teams up for you guys no more. God, how good did that feel?
Starting point is 00:57:31 Oh, my gosh. Oh, my God. You know how hard is the two gap of double team? Like, it's difficult. I got no clue. I'm like, look, that's like every time we play Houston and we had to imitate JJ Watt. I was the first person on a skeleton team.
Starting point is 00:57:43 I said, I could do it. And I was like, what you know? I said, I know every one of y'all calls. I'm not going to jump everything, swams, spin. I said, I'm not going to do everything I can to fuck with you guys. And I'm like, you're like, you're serious. I'm like, yep, it is what it is. Makes it harder and practice, make it easier in the game against JJ.
Starting point is 00:57:59 100%. What, are you a movie guy? I am a movie guy. What's your favorite movie? Oh, God. So as a kid, I was forced to watch Pope Fiction on Re-Rewan. really. They're constantly going.
Starting point is 00:58:11 Forced. Wait. How did that happen? My brother was, he's like six years old to me. So that's all we watched. He's got good taste. I like this.
Starting point is 00:58:17 Back in the day, I'm doing this because you had to, I mean, he had to rewind it on VHS. Oh, yeah. Didn't intervene. Be kind and rewind.
Starting point is 00:58:24 Yeah. Didn't you had to get the little thing just in case it messed up. We had a, we had a rewinder. Because you were rich. Nah. That's cool. Movie Buff household.
Starting point is 00:58:32 Just movie buff household. Yeah, we had a friend that worked at a old, uh, rental place. No, It was like an off-brand rental. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:58:40 We had a pencil. Yeah, the pencil will do, too. You a Blockbuster guy? Yeah, we just knocked them out, you know, until they started to hear you until late feet. The worst. The worst. What's a fun memory or moment that should be made into a movie when you were in New England? Oh. My funniest one was you, and you don't even know it.
Starting point is 00:59:05 So the funniest. So I did an elf on a shelf in New England. Classic. Right? And I hit it all around the building. And Jules is being Jules one day. And I'm going to put him in front of his locker. So I hit it on the side of the fucking locker just sitting there.
Starting point is 00:59:22 And he's sitting there like, what the hell is that? Because I'm trying to change. And I got this elf looking at my junk. And I'm like, that he don't know it's me. I'm like, okay. So the next day, I'm like, okay. So the next day, I move it above this locker. He said, what the hell?
Starting point is 00:59:40 I'm trying to get my treatment. Come in. He's still looking at my junk. And I'm like, yeah. Then I moved it because we had a little lip. I put it behind him. I said, for a week straight, I'm just moving around his fucking locker. And they all, how often people knew of me?
Starting point is 00:59:54 Because I'll go in there with a big ass ladder and start pulling it up. There's moving this shit around. We got ladders out. And all of a sudden, I just did it. Then I had multiple ones because Marky Cannon's, stole my elf and held it for hostage. Jesus. And the elf game took it.
Starting point is 01:00:09 But now I have multiples around the locker that's sitting there just looking at Joel and two started to comment on his shit. Only Jewish guy on the team has to have the elves and shelf right on his father. How about a bench on the bench? Yeah. You got to mention on the bench. Hey, I should have.
Starting point is 01:00:24 And the only thing that stopped me from getting binoculars because they didn't want to stay up. I had a binoculars sitting there. They just wouldn't stay on the elf. I like for this movie. We get the IP for Elf on the shelf. And he's a bird watching. Laymation.
Starting point is 01:00:36 Yeah, he's a story. Hey, that shit was hilarious. All he does is just look at him. I never knew that was you. Hey. I was like, what, what are we doing?
Starting point is 01:00:45 Pardon for life seeing Marcus Cannon. John. Holy smokes. Oh my God. I am telling you. It was hilarious. Because I did weird and stuff like that in the locker room. What's the weirdest thing you did?
Starting point is 01:00:57 The elf was the weirdest thing. I love that. I love the Lepfxion. The other thing I did, you know, we bought Fimmon's Shark one year. And we opened it up in the, um, in the training room. What? Femented Shark.
Starting point is 01:01:07 What? We bought it to try it and then we opened that bitch up in the training room. And all of a sudden, I cleared out the training room. I cleared out the media. And they all said, thank you. We were over to taking shots of our own Icelandic vodka with this fermented shark because it's supposed to be a traditional drink. And I was like, bro, this is what it is.
Starting point is 01:01:30 Whoa. That must have been on a ride out. I think it was on Thursday. Friday. It had to be because that's when all you guys would go. Some SeaWorld type shit. Oh, no. It was a random thing. Random? Because you never, so I used to do the best in the training room also. So if you could do 50 pushups consecutively, I get the money up. I got, I got one year.
Starting point is 01:01:50 I got a guy $15,000 worth of bets going just for a Christmas bonus. Not in the building. Not in the building. The bets were made out of the building. Okay, side bets out of the time. Yeah. Yeah. What he said. I don't play no more. So we got that. I had that. I had The hot chip challenge, I had the hot gummy bear. Oh, God, that thing's killed people. So the hot gummy bear challenge was epic too. Oh, I don't remember those.
Starting point is 01:02:13 Which one? Hot gummy bear. Yeah, they were doing a bunch of this hot shit all the time. Then I did how many, we did how many cookies you can eat, how many Oreos you can eat in a minute. Can you hold a push up? Can you hold this? Oh, bro, I was just doing challenges just to try to get the guys to interns money. And I was just like, this is on top of the Christmas gear.
Starting point is 01:02:31 This is all for the training staff. I was just competing. All for the training staff? insert only the intern. So seasonal interns, all of them, I made sure. They're making like $10. Yeah. So I bought them. Literally all years to come up. I bought them all gifts for a training camp. So all them get gifts for training camp I gave it to them. I love this. Because between me and him and Slate in the training room. Yeah, they got to be a handful. Oh my God. I'd never forget. They looked at me. They said, look, Jules is left. Can you not act up to today? I said, I'm not doing nothing.
Starting point is 01:03:00 What was I doing in the training room? The same thing I was doing. I do more orthotics. I throw orthotic guy because they blistered my feet. Just like, hey, first time in the building, they say, we got this guy that does orthotics.
Starting point is 01:03:16 You know, I'm like, okay, cool. He does, he does fake legs and everything. Engleberg? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:22 I blistered my foot. I threw that bitch right out of him. I said, you fucking thotics suck. He ain't no, Dr. Shoals, come on.
Starting point is 01:03:28 I said, yeah, this is something coming in. Throwing orthotics. Hey, Oh, they looked at me, again, between me, him and Slate, Slate was the nice one. They're like, your personality on top of jewels of personality. We get jewels.
Starting point is 01:03:44 He said, we didn't know we was inheriting you. I said, I'm good, bro. Biden's through years of being there. I said, it's honest. I said, like, this sucks. And they're like, well, I said, then I told one guy, I said, look, you're not capable of stretching me. What? And he was like, what do you mean?
Starting point is 01:03:59 I said, you're not physically capable stretching me. Too small? way too small. He got you. Started breaking on his sweat. I'm like, yeah, my leg is heavy.
Starting point is 01:04:09 I heard. And it's just going on. I told you wasn't capable of touching me, bro. And it was like, you're fucked up. I'm not mean.
Starting point is 01:04:16 I was just trying to be honest with them. I told you. You only have a handful of people that actually work on you, right? Yeah. And if you get Jimbo to work on you, it's amazing.
Starting point is 01:04:25 He worked on me probably three times. Come on, I ain't letting Jimbo. I don't even like Jimbo out of his sights. Nah, Jimbo, I hear pet and cat.
Starting point is 01:04:32 cats and shit like this. I need to fucking, you need to be wrestling a dinosaur. Yay. Ressal a dinosaur. I know they remember that term. Okay, it'll be out here fucking playing this
Starting point is 01:04:42 with this shit. Come on. We need to get some, we got muscle, you got a breakthrough. I hear you. So it took special. I know.
Starting point is 01:04:50 Let's jump into this freaking game. Got me thinking about it. I can do these training camp stories all day. The training was wild. Oh, my gosh. You break down this. Let's get into these Tennessee Titans, nine and seven.
Starting point is 01:05:02 second final year the Mike Malarkey era Mike Malarkey We're talking coaches though Dick Leboe on the defensive side Legend in the old AFC North Pittsburgh Dick Leboe shout out
Starting point is 01:05:11 This was also his final year in the league We retired him after this one First playoff Legend though For the Pittsburgh Steelers Legend no shade of Dick Leboe Shout out
Starting point is 01:05:19 First playoff birth since 08 And this is the first year of the post Jason McCordierra That's right Crazy Oh wow He'd been there since 08 2009 yeah insane
Starting point is 01:05:28 Good rookie class here You got Corey Davis a Mac daddy. Remember him out of Western Michigan? Wide receiver. A Dory Jackson, John Hsu Smith, some other dudes on this squad. First rounder, yeah. Cory Davis. Cory Davis, first rounder, man. I always thought he was going to like really pop off.
Starting point is 01:05:42 I know he had some decent years there, but. Yeah, I mean, Macion. That's pretty cool for the Mac. Big time. Mac, Macon, you, Skymore, all those guys. Wesley Woodyard, we used to play against each other when he went to Kentucky. I played him. That's right. He was on this squad. He had Matt Castle on this one. He was there for a long time. He played a lot of good football. Eric Decker. Delaney, Wilkins.
Starting point is 01:06:01 Delaney Walker was used this year. Taylor LaWine, one of the bussing with the boys was down there. Kevin Byrd, current Patriot led the league in interceptions this year. Ball Hawk back there with eight. Led it this year, last year too. Yep. Crazy, man.
Starting point is 01:06:15 2025. 2025, 2017. Big gap there, but still getting those picks. Logan Ryan down there. Logan. He signed his big deal there. Yep. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:24 So, yeah, this was a, I didn't know the Michael Murray. We saw on that team. Yeah. This was myriad year. Maryode year. Pre Vrabel. Yeah, pretty solid little Titans team.
Starting point is 01:06:34 But you've got to talk about the backfield too, DeMarco Murray and King Henry. I mean, that's a good backfield. Young King Henry. Young King Henry. Yes. Young King Henry. Still didn't understand his body. No.

And we're the host of everyone watches women's sports, a new podcast from Together and IHart Women's Sports. Because let's be real. Women's sports is giving us way too much to talk about these days. So Kelsey Finler, she became the first female solo roer to go from California to Hawaii.
Starting point is 01:07:38 My first thought is like, what's up with the snacks? Like, what are we eating? The highlights, the rivalries, the breakout stars, the moments that take over your entire timeline. And the conversations that start during the game and somehow keep going all week. Every week, we're breaking down the biggest stories across women sports. Naomi Osaka showing out, she beat Sabalinka. Shout out to you, Naomi. You get the palm, Naomi.
Starting point is 01:08:00 I mean, you get the harm for that. Because we're not just interested in what happened. We're interested in why everyone's talking about it. Because everyone watches women's sports. Listen to everyone watches women's sports. On the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. What do you remember about this Titans team? Got Derek Henry.
Starting point is 01:08:23 I forgot DeMarco was even there. I'll be honest with you. I just remember going into the game and they were like, if we let Derek get past the first level, second level, not tackle him. It's just what it is. And as Bill said, this is an all on
Starting point is 01:08:39 hands-on deck guy. Everybody got to wrap up. There ain't no shoulder tackling, no arm tackling. Stop his feet. You got to stop his feet. And if you grab him, the first person there,
Starting point is 01:08:49 hold him, second person, grab the feet, dump them. And if we get him, stop, it would get him flustered. If we get him flustered, it will stop their running game
Starting point is 01:08:58 because it ran through him. And again, he was young, too. Young. Sprite. I got him in later years too. And I'm like,
Starting point is 01:09:05 you ain't that young anymore. You're hitting. And then he was like a DB's nightmare. Yeah. He was just showing DVs. And also, you know, paired with Marcus Mariotta
Starting point is 01:09:15 who he would take the ball on you too. Yeah. But then again, like we knew what we were getting into. Like passing, like, okay, it was a run team with a little bit of passing. And they had the biggest,
Starting point is 01:09:28 be honest, the biggest person they talk about other than that, what was Taylor. The way he, the little hand, fucking jerk that he was doing all the time, they would never, like, at least three people jump off sides. Yeah. I don't, I think we had a training camp practice with them.
Starting point is 01:09:46 Was it this year or the following year? It was the following year when Vrable got there. Okay, yeah, because that was the whole own thing. They was like, look, this is their best offensive line, man. And if you see me, I don't like playing the right side of the line because I suck on the right side of the line. I'm way better on the left. Yeah. And they all knew that.
Starting point is 01:10:03 And I think this game, they say, we got to put you on the right side. I'm like, I don't want to be on the right. I said, I've run any position you want me to do on the left. But it was just one of those things is we could stop Luan, stop Henry. I still don't remember DeMarco being there. It was a while ago. But it was like, if we could troll the run game,
Starting point is 01:10:24 they cannot beat us with their arm. And that's the biggest thing we kept saying, if we control the run game, they cannot beat us with their arm. What were some of your favorite O-Lyman to battle? Oh, geez. So when I got to do Machiana, and when we got to play them into Ravens, it was amazing because that was my one-on-one person in practice
Starting point is 01:10:44 when I was Baltimore. The pouncies were amazing. LaWan was great because he's a talker, and I'm a talker. What's so the Juan saying during the game? We know he's a talker. He's great on the podcast. So with me, I was solid. He didn't really say much to me,
Starting point is 01:10:58 but I can never forget that, in that 19 playoff, he looked at me, he said, you're giving up on me. And I was like, you're running away. You're like, don't give up on me, 93. I was like, fuck you, bro. And he knew it too. And I was like, bro, this is some shit.
Starting point is 01:11:17 Oh, he's calling it out. He knew he had us. I was like, man, they knew it. And exactly, if I went to the left, they moved to the right. And then I started to realize who they were picking on. I was like, where we're going to run to the week. side they're going to do this. It was
Starting point is 01:11:32 a game. God. I can't think of everybody on top of my head right now. Villanueva was a good person to go against. Like I said, to pounce you for great people to go and get
Starting point is 01:11:46 God. Who was the left guard for the Pittsburgh Steelers? What was his name? Black dude? Is he a big black dude? Fort Foster. Foster. Loved it.
Starting point is 01:12:02 Yeah, Roman Foster. Yeah. Romano Fosters. It was. They always had big, just like mean looking linemen. Love it. Steelers could be the coolest looking like team when you see them off the bus. 100%.
Starting point is 01:12:16 Because they're always fucking the all black unies, the yellow and black. They get off the bus and they were always large. Always. Their whole team is always like they love big guys that can hold on the offensive. line, right? That's what I always said. Bill was saying. I don't even know. I just Bill would always be saying these guys are just fucking large and
Starting point is 01:12:37 like to hold. They coach them to hold. You know what? I never forget the ref told me. He said, he said, I see him holding you. But you got to make an attempt to get off. I said, I can't. I said, this man's hands are strong. I'm struggling. And they're like, it is what it is.
Starting point is 01:12:53 But like that whole Pittsburgh offense line during that era, it was just a fun game. And everybody knew if you didn't know Big Ben's tail, if it was past, his ankle will always be up. And if it was down, I was like, look. So I won game, I remember the first year
Starting point is 01:13:09 playing them, I ignored everything. Yeah. It was no, I'm reading the play, none of this. I was like, all they're going to do is get in my way and hold me. I just looked through the line and looked at his ankle the whole time. And my cousin's like, what are you looking at? I said, his ankle. He said, you understand what the play was? I'm like, no. I said, I ignored all that shit. I said, all we got to
Starting point is 01:13:28 do stop Lavion and stop this person and we're solid. That's in the bucket of a football player being a football player. Yeah. You know, sometimes you're going to break the rules. Because you have to explain your shit, what you're doing to coaches. They're going to sit and at, like, how the fuck did you get a jump on this when you didn't have nothing? You know, just a football player being a football player coach.
Starting point is 01:13:48 He's like, hey. It'd be hilarious too because I had a whole cheat sheet of everything I needed, all the signals, all the things. What were your cheat sheet for these Tennessee Titans? I don't remember that much. other than never stopping to run. My whole focus was I could read doubles, right? So I could read the eyes of all the offensive alignment. I could read the formation, any motion.
Starting point is 01:14:07 If you motion a certain player or Z or X, only two, three plays must happen out of that motion. Because the issue is you go back and on iPad, you could just put in plays and put in this motion or that motion. Then when you put in those motions, you can read what play is coming. And all of a sudden, you're like,
Starting point is 01:14:27 okay, this is going to be a pass, but it's going to be this play where they line up on the hashes all they in between the numbers where's this offense alignment it's his foot back it's his foot up it's his arm up it's he on his hip is he's light on his hand it's his hand slightly above his pad it's a running back even behind it's a tiny little bit off the ball it's to tighten his right hand down the left hands down so when i looked at this game that's all we that's all looked at i'm like i'm going to read the snap before the snap and then i can reach your call abc your backside duce double single, your front side, triple, your front side.
Starting point is 01:15:02 That means triple double teams coming from the, the, either the tackle to tie it in, B, guard, tackle, A, it's going to be center guard, that's backside, front side. So you start realizing all that, then you start hearing the mic point. And like, where's the mic? The mic's over here. Is Patrick Chung behind me? Because Nimiel's playing linebacker.
Starting point is 01:15:21 Yeah. Like, is he behind me? They're going to make him to do it. Then I looked at the eyes of the tackle. Was that dollar or dime? Because he played, you'd be the safety coming in the box.
Starting point is 01:15:33 It was both, but it'll be more nickel sometimes. And I never forget the day and I wasn't paying attention in meetings. That's a big nickel. Yeah, I wasn't paying attention in meetings and we was doing it.
Starting point is 01:15:45 And I don't know what game it was and I always remember them and saying, hey, 23 is my God. I'm like, what's that? And I looked behind me, I'm like, oh, shit.
Starting point is 01:15:56 I'm going to have a long goddamn day. He ain't, He ain't going to take off this devil like I need this double taking off. But all that being said, I could read all of it. Yeah. Then the tackle always stares at you. Yeah. Then you be sitting there.
Starting point is 01:16:10 This is why I'd be talking and be like, I know you doubles him and me, bro. Don't try to fuck me up right now. Please don't try to do it. And they're like, what? Middle of the game. Game is serious. Don't try to fuck me up, bro. And it is to be looking at me.
Starting point is 01:16:24 And our goal is to playing to the tackle. And at that time, no way is really. doing it that much. Yeah. And I said, I'm like, I just tee off on them. Like, hey, bro, I told you not try to fuck me up. I saw it in your eyes. But this game, that was important.
Starting point is 01:16:37 You got a tee off on the wand? I did. We went to that training camp practice. Bill looked at me and said, what the hell you do? I said, I threw the Juan to the fucking ground. Jump to this time and didn't do that thing. He's going to be coming at you when he hears this. Hey, I never forget.
Starting point is 01:16:50 I'm going to play him in the preseason game. I'm like, I'm going to stun in. I'm going to try to throw him to the ground. I'm going to get my ass, y'all. that and it's going to be what it is and all of a sudden I'm going to scream that and my coach was like what the hell are you doing I like sending the message that I don't have to sit here and be on this edge of the Baltimore. All right.
Starting point is 01:17:12 Hit him big Ben. Let's go. Set the message. And from there, like cool. Then again, I think that that following year he was in the playoff game talking about me. They beat our ass. They fucking send us home. Jackie jump into these paths.
Starting point is 01:17:26 Let's get into these 13 and three. lost that first game to Kansas City. Remember that one? Jules, of course, unfortunately, got hurt in the preseason up there in Detroit. That freaking turf, man. Fucking Detroit. This was the 18th year of the Belichick area. He got Josh McDaniels O.C., Maddie P.D.C.
Starting point is 01:17:45 Coming off the 28 to 3 Super Bowl year win. I mean, yeah, this was a heck of a squad 13 and 3. Play the game in Mexico City. Play the game down in Estadio, Azteca. 9,000. 9,000 feet. Insane. you feel it?
Starting point is 01:17:59 I was over there sucking oxygen and I thought I was sucking the oxygen and just going at there breathing, Moses looked at me and he said, I think you're out of shape. I said, I can't breathe. He said, no, you're out of shape. We got to do some more wind sprints. I'm like bullshit. I said, I am not out of shape. It is hard to breathe.
Starting point is 01:18:17 It's the last year I really did oxygen. Yeah. I mean, 9,000 feet. People don't realize like mile high you feel little and that's at 5,000 feet. This is 9,000 feet as Texas. stayed there for a week. No, didn't you go to, we went to,
Starting point is 01:18:31 Colorado. Yeah, Colorado. Yeah, for a week. We're sitting there. Trying to get used to it, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:38 Bullshit. Ain't nobody getting used to it. Olive Brands smoking black and miles out on a patio in Mexico. And I'm like, you want to join him? I'm like, I can't breathe already.
Starting point is 01:18:49 I don't know how you doing this. Shout out of Allen Brains, bro. I said, hey, he was the real one for that one. Maybe he'd be on this big-ass skateboard. Going through the locker room. He's fucking. 355 pound man on a skateboard. I'm over here trying to get tequila.
Starting point is 01:19:04 I'm over there trying to pay people to go get me tequila with a little worm in it. And I'm like, can't give me some tequila guys? And I was like, what? And I think that's why he said he was out of shape. I'm over there. I was trying to get some tequila, bro. It's a worm, maybe. What do you remember about this Patriots team? Oh, my God. This one right here. Like, when you see all these guys on the team.
Starting point is 01:19:23 This was a largest first year on the Patriots too. Everybody was built differently. Like, it was legit built differently because you guys just came off that Falcon win, right? You had Rex Burkhead on there. James, James Delvin, let's just be real. Like, probably one of the hardest fullbacks I ever hit in practice, hit in the game. It was it. Shaq Mason, Ted Curris, David Andrews, Tune, like, Marcus Cannon.
Starting point is 01:19:53 Then when you go down until we have Brandon Cooks, got, can you, Britt was there, Dorisette, Hogan, you were there for that short period of time, Slate, Duane Island, Dola, Dola. Like, we had so many people there. And let's not forget, I think, I got hurt that year also.
Starting point is 01:20:12 Kenning got hurt. You got hurt. Kyle took over as Middle Linebacker. Lannie was just not going. And Atlanta Robert was known for one thing. He might not be the fastest person. Take your head off. You'll take your head off.
Starting point is 01:20:26 So those double teams came off fast. That's what I said. It was different. He comes downhill and he's not that big. But he just hit. So there's heavy hitters. And Brandon Spikes used to be like that. That's what they compared him to.
Starting point is 01:20:38 He's a hitter, but this different athlete. But he wasn't as big as Spikes and this guy could lay the wood. Oh, my God. He's still in the league. Yeah. That's crazy to think. What is? He's only probably 2.30.
Starting point is 01:20:50 But he could hit. But he hits. But he hits. The problem was he set the message. He sent messages. But when you look at this, team, you're not looking at a team that was sitting there. You look at a team that Matt Patricia knew it was this last year.
Starting point is 01:21:02 Josh knew he was last year. They was doing stuff. We're watching the bad boys of Detroit. No, Josh was still there next year. Oh, yeah, that's right. No, no. He was supposed to leave. He was, oh, he was about to leave to indie.
Starting point is 01:21:15 That was the whole anything. They put that ruling. Oh, shit. You forgot that? I forgot. Hey, we, hey, end of the season, Matt was like, Josh, so what do we do this? How do we do this? Do we go meet with Bill, meet with this?
Starting point is 01:21:26 And Josh is like, yeah, yeah, go meet with Bill, and then all of a sudden he never loved. Yeah. But it was unique a year. Bad Boys of Detroit, well, we're watching this during our, again, you guys were practicing, doing a walkthroughs. In our little film room, we did a walkthrough room, we were watching the Bad Boys of Detroit.
Starting point is 01:21:44 It was like, this is how we got to play because they're trying to be back more physicality in. And when I got there, I never forget, Ivan. But, like, we finally got a real DeLyman in here. and again, coming from Baltimore, if he was to buy a pile, I put you over the pile. And it didn't matter what it was.
Starting point is 01:22:05 You go over the pile, I'm only hit you. If I can get away with it, I'm just going to set messages. And I can never forget, I've been able to like, this is what we need here. And then I never forget. I tip the guy in Miami right over the pile, hit Patrick Chung on the thing,
Starting point is 01:22:22 and he said he ripped his testicles off. They're gone. They're gone. I'm like, what? They're gone. What's a moment in New England that gives you PTSD? Oh, man. I don't have many.
Starting point is 01:22:43 Yeah, I don't have many. It was what it was. Like, if Tom get yelled at, you can get y'all at, it is what it is. And I just kind of just lived with it. And by that time, I got in a year. Seven? So by that time, I already understood the league. So it was like, look, what happens, happens.
Starting point is 01:23:04 If I'm going to mess up, I'm going to mess up, explain myself on it. But if I'm going to mess up, I won't do it fast and physical. And that was one thing that they never really harped on me about. I was just talking to Dietrich Wise a while ago about that. He said, the coaches talked to you differently. I was like, yeah, because I understood when I messed up, I wasn't going to say, I didn't mess up. I said, I messed up.
Starting point is 01:23:25 But, hey, I hit him in the nuts. Yeah. And they were like, yeah. I'm like, that's what it was. And that's what they showed it. Like, look, it was a solid play. It's just what it was. You had to swallow all your pride.
Starting point is 01:23:37 I'm like, you're going to get yelled at. You're going to get cussed at. You're going to mess up. They're going to blame you. This whole year in a team, I can swear to God, me and Gilly were getting yelled at left and right. Like, we didn't know what we were doing. I was like, you just paid Gilly all this damn money. I said, if he ain't shit, I ain't shit, because you only gave me a little check.
Starting point is 01:23:57 But everybody else is one of those things that it has happened. And I never forget, again, we're playing Tampa. Bill made have put a fucking, what's it, six, seven studs on. And I can't play in those high-ass cleats with thicker cleats for softer grass.
Starting point is 01:24:14 And I hate them. I only like modes. And he's like, you got to play in them. And by God, I just did what I wanted to do that whole game and every single time I tripped. And I was, and I never, forget I went into Brandon Daly's office and he'll just like you're playing like a robot.
Starting point is 01:24:31 He said, but that game you didn't keep that up. If you're going to get yelled at, at least get yelled at doing what the fuck you want to do. Instead of getting yelled at doing something they want you to do. And I was like, I appreciate that. Then I got a cortisol shot on my shoulder and it changed everything. Hell yeah. I said, what is this? That's why Brandon Daly's got six rings, baby.
Starting point is 01:24:50 Six rings. How about shout out, shout out? Daily was amazing. He was cool. Hey, what was it, Connie? Ely, we came in the same time. Yeah, yeah. I got blisters on my feet because of the grass
Starting point is 01:25:04 and the stupid ethotics. I put little pads on my feet with a little second skin every single game. What's what it was? He didn't practice because he had blisters on his heels, right? And then he was impressed. BD had these little ass fucking shorts. Probably up to here.
Starting point is 01:25:21 Like, who's your daddy shorts? And we're in the meeting. And we have rows. We're both sitting in the front row. He's close to the BD. BD's over there talking to him. He put his leg up on top of that desk. Boom.
Starting point is 01:25:35 Now you see all of them just like, he said, hey, bro, you don't got heart. And I'm just like, I don't got a heart. Just me and him in him. And I'm like, he said he don't got a heart. I'm just like, I'm just like, how's your leg up there?
Starting point is 01:25:51 I'm like, oh shit, I left to meet everyone there. Like what I said, bro? I said, I don't know what the fuck how this went is. Fucking BD's balls hanging out. They're sitting there like, yeah, no tan, no one else in this sitting in there.
Starting point is 01:26:03 I was like, bro. I said, this is how you get down here? That's brutal. There's balls in the face. Some people here don't go. And the desk is high. It's like the size of the thing right here. His leg is up there.
Starting point is 01:26:16 No wonder, you didn't get that coaching point. Oh, my God. It didn't. What is a coaching point that sticks out from New England? Oh, man. The best coaching point was, and I tell people there, you know, it's so,
Starting point is 01:26:35 such and so little too, do not clap after the play. If you clap, you fucked up. And now you let everybody know you messed up. Let them figure that out. And I was like, what? You said, if you clap, that means you're messed up. Like that.
Starting point is 01:26:53 Let them figure it out. Bill used to say it all the time. Brandon did you say it all the time. Flo used to say, do not clap. So if I mess up, you'll see me. You'll never,
Starting point is 01:27:02 you'll see any of my film. I'll never clap. You'll see people clapping. Because I'm like, I did that right. Y'all did it wrong. And they got to figure that out. Who was wrong on that?
Starting point is 01:27:13 So I'm like, you got to do your job. I'm not going to clap. And that's what they say, do not clap after the play because as soon as you do it, that team knows you messed up and we know you messed out.
Starting point is 01:27:23 Let only us know you messed up because we know what's going on. Let them figure it out. We got a new stunt. And I used to mess up on a couple of stunts and we made into a brand new stunt because me and Malcolm Brown could not get this stunt correctly. And all of a sudden, it came the stunt. And he was like, the reason why. Well, the coaches don't, they didn't want the other coaches to see in film study
Starting point is 01:27:43 what the scheme was. That's what he's saying. They said, don't clap. so when they're watching the film and they see you in this gap they could think that that's the play instead of where the real play is the number got to study
Starting point is 01:27:58 his fucking body language these guys oh my god everything's a trap to stop a trap of this or this ah we get it let's move on to the fucking the lead-up of this game

So Kelsey Finler, she became the first female solo roer to go from California to Hawaii. My first thought is, like, what's up with the snacks? Like, what are we eating? The highlights, the rivalries, the breakout stars,
Starting point is 01:29:15 the moments that take over your entire. entire timeline. In the conversations that start during the game and somehow keep going all week. Every week, we're breaking down the biggest stories across women's sports. Naomi Osaka showing out, she beat. Sabalinka. Shout out to you, Naomi. You get the palm, Naomi.

Listen to everyone watches women's sports on the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast. Titans back in the playoffs, fifth seed, lost three or four in their last four in the regular season.
Starting point is 01:29:54 So kind of hit a skid there. But in the wild card round, huge win over Kansas City, down 213, come back and win that thing, 22, 21. Insane comeback. But as Lawrence mentioned earlier,
Starting point is 01:30:06 they did lose to Marco Murray in that one, so got banged up. He was not in this game, so that was a loss. And that's, that was Alex Smith. Yes, this was pre-Money. Patrick's rookie year.
Starting point is 01:30:19 Yeah, this was Alex Smith. Kelsey was with Alex Smith, but yeah, no Pat. And so Pat was on team. Yeah, he was started. He was drafted this year. Right. So this was the Alex Smith's last game as a chief. As a chief.
Starting point is 01:30:34 Wow. Crazy to think. You think about that, you know, and then it goes on to what they become. It's kind of one of those like, yeah, I don't see Pat losing a 21 point lead at Arrowhead. You never know. I mean, early young Pat. I mean, even though young Pat that we all saw was like MVP. This is true.
Starting point is 01:30:48 It's phenomenal. This is true. The Pats came in here, number one seed, first round by, seven and one since week nine on their by week. I mean, absolutely wagging. At this point of the year, like... Yeah, by this point in the year, we were rolling. There was only a handful of things that could have stopped us,
Starting point is 01:31:03 and that was just us. Again, we now we knew Matt, Patricia was gone. We're like, he's gone. Like, we were going, we were playing. Everybody was as how the athlete could be in New England standards. Can you play? Yeah, okay. cool, you're healthy.
Starting point is 01:31:19 But we were rolling. Like, we're stopping them, stopping to run, playing. Explain that to the listener, though. Like, explain the, like, the routine of when you're, you're seven and one going into the playoffs. You're on a roll. Everything at going to work is kind of fun. You go into work excited because you're seeing shit.
Starting point is 01:31:40 Explain that to, like, what it means to be on a role. Oh, it's a momentum. of that feeling and it's like, look, ain't nobody better in us right now. We're going to go in here. And it's not just on Sunday. It's like it's during the week of practice. Because that comes down to scout team. Like, hey, give me the look that I need.
Starting point is 01:31:59 Why? Because if you give me the look I need, we're going to fuck them up. You give me everything we need. We're going to dominate every aspect of the game. And it was so precise and like, hey, your foot got to be back. Hey, this got to be here. He ain't going to call that. Don't freelance.
Starting point is 01:32:15 Don't do this. just follow it, and all we did was watch film. By the time we got home, there was no film to watch. You're just watching cut-ups. And by that time, I figured out the iPads and everything, we're just throwing cut-ups. And then I'm over here in my D-Line room, like, hey, this is the hand signal for this.
Starting point is 01:32:33 Hey, this is a call for this. This is a snap count. This is that. And we're just rolling. And by that week, everybody's identity was sealed and sewn. And what I mean by identity, everybody has a role in the game. And you understood that role. And the whole thing is what Bill says,
Starting point is 01:32:52 do not change your identity and big games. Say who you are. If you don't spin, don't spend, don't spend. If you don't jump over people, don't jump over. Brandon Cooks will learn that one in the Super Bowl. You don't jump over people. Don't try to jump over people. Just play your game.
Starting point is 01:33:06 And if we do that, we can win. And we will just go in. I mean, because you got to think about it. 13 and 3. This is a fucking crazy. great year. You know, you're on a really good team. And a lot of people don't realize, you know, when you go to work in the NFL, like when you were going to work with these last eight, these last two months of work, like everything was had a purpose and everyone was fueling
Starting point is 01:33:33 off it. Everyone saw, you know, the results and all the work that you had been putting in since about week 12 and those last eight like that's when you're getting in a tip top shape 7 and 1 got a winning street going everything's kind of running at the right level great work practices guys are getting healthy like this is like the time when you go into this part of the season especially off a buy have an extra week to prepare like these this is a great football team going into this battle in Tennessee just so happens to be one of the first blockades and you know if you're going somewhere or not by that time. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:11 You knew you were going to the playoffs or you didn't have a shot. In my NFL said by these entities last, after November and December, you know if you guys can win some more than you're not. It ain't knows. You could hype the team up all you want to. You have identity. Like, hey, we have a shot or we don't got a shot. And coming into this game, you had to stop the run to get through this blockade.
Starting point is 01:34:35 That was the first mission for this 2007. 17 playoff Patriot team. And, you know, they just came out with a win in the first wildfire weekend. This is the best team you've played so far. And the game goes. Let's break down this game. Starts out slow night game, Jolette, playoff game. Romo and Nance on the call. This is big time, baby. Three straight punts. A little slow start.
Starting point is 01:34:59 But Tennessee opens a scoring 11 play, 95-yard drive. Inns in a Corey Davis touchdown. We're down 7-0 going into the second quarter here. Not great. but proceed to rattle off. How many straight? 35. 35 straight.
Starting point is 01:35:13 James White. Yeah, but that's for the offense. Yeah, yeah. That's it does. Stopped them three times. So after the first quarter,
Starting point is 01:35:21 right, after the first quarter, how are we feeling it's 70, you guys are, it's 70 Tennessee. You want to know what happened on that first quarter when they ran that 9 to 5 yards
Starting point is 01:35:31 or were on the field and we all is like, we can't win the game if we keep doing this shit. So we literally, literally sat down and we started changing stuff up. I'm like, we got to play better. We got to do this better. What did you change? The mentality. Okay. It's just mentality.
Starting point is 01:35:49 And when people say to change, there's only something plays you could call. What we had, Oaky Front or something? We only had a certain amount of calls. We had to change the mentality, understanding that they got a good drive. Do your fundamental.
Starting point is 01:36:04 Yeah. Play your solid ball. Move her adjustment. Change around. play better, pay and placement. Read the call better. Do what you have to do. So this is the best thing about defense. When people are like, oh, well, defense is very simple.
Starting point is 01:36:20 And that's your safety. Then it gets a little hard. But once you get towards that front seven, it's very simple. And with certain teams, they say, get ball, see ball, get ball. If you don't see that ball, you don't get the ball. It's a run. Us was like, look, play fundamental, strike hard,
Starting point is 01:36:37 set the message, understand they're going to have big plays, don't let it do it again. And that's the mentality. Like, look, we got to knock it out. You got to play this. You got to do a little bit extra. They'll sit on the sideline. Hey, he's struggling. Help out.
Starting point is 01:36:51 All right, cool. Hey, I have a weakness here. Don't worry. We got somebody coming down. Again, we had different linebacker cordoned them because we had somebody injured. Those small adjustments that you have, it changes everything of like telling a three technique to widening out a tad it changes the blocking scheme for everybody. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:37:11 A slightly move over. Blocking scheme changed. That's how simple it is when you go to the offensive defense line that you could literally say one word and it could mess everybody up. Well, when did you feel the momentum shifted? Because after the first quarter, it's seven, zero. And then all of a sudden, defense is playing hot. Eight sacks.
Starting point is 01:37:33 You got playoff Dolah with 11 catches. You got Gronk being. Gronk scoring touchdowns. Deion Lewis shifted. You got Hogan making. Like the offense turns it on. When did you feel the moment? Like was that a feeding?
Starting point is 01:37:46 You feed off the offense and then or are they feeding off of you guys? When did the momentum flip in this game? Because you guys go 35 straight points. Games, fuck, you guys run on the clock out. After the second quarter, damn near. What was the time of possession? TOP in this way. It was a little closer than I thought it was, but it was 32 to 27.
Starting point is 01:38:06 What was it in the second quarter? Can you pull it out of? Yeah, yeah. Let me do a little advanced analytics here. You think about that because it comes down to if we can stop them and Tom holds up, Tom will hold the ball for like 10 minutes. When you get a 10 minute drive, it's hard to tell yourself, hey, we can't do this. 10 minute drive, even if it's only three points, is a win for the defense. No, that's that's big.
Starting point is 01:38:30 That's what people don't realize. Great memory from LG here. They only had it for. The defense is sitting there like, oh, shoot, we got, we got some time. good. Yeah, they had it for, even if it's only three points. If you can only get a field goal,
Starting point is 01:38:42 that's why I see all these goddamn analytics and everyone going forward on forward. I'm like, what the hell, man, defense going on? Yeah, they have for 547 compared to our, um, our 941. So it was,
Starting point is 01:38:52 no big that is. Pretty big. Yeah. You make a stop. Tom holds the ball. We make a stop. They, they score a touchdown.
Starting point is 01:38:58 When we get the ball back, they score another touchdown. You run in there like they haven't scored, scored, scored, scored. Like that right there itself, it stops everything. Yeah. And when I mean,
Starting point is 01:39:07 it stops everything, it stops everything. Time of possession is life for us. So it flips to 21 to 7 a half time. Now it is chilling. What's BB say a half? Remember? Keep the foot on the gas. They're about the break.
Starting point is 01:39:24 They're about the break. I'm just telling you, fellas, you keep the foot on the gas. We got it, boys. They're going to break. And then it's from like, as far as momentum goes in time of possession, you feel like they're pressing a little bit
Starting point is 01:39:39 going for it on fourth and one at the end of the half on the New England 42 big stop from the defense. Huge. Almost sneak three points in. Steve-on misses it. A 53-yarder. Gino over here with two sacks. Insane. That's how everybody was rolling.
Starting point is 01:39:54 Yeah. You know, I'm big on field goals because I did field goal protection. That's right. And it was everything. So when they miss out, if I don't, if my memory is correct on 911, I don't, is that.
Starting point is 01:40:07 It could have been the one I probably messed up on that field goal. Something like that occurred maybe because I remember after this season, I switched up how I protected the field goal because Tune had a leg injury at that time. Look, fellas, you know, we do all the right situational stuff. We get the ball down. We clock it. It doesn't matter if we don't make the kick. And it was huge.
Starting point is 01:40:34 Remember he something he would say all the time. So I saw the uppercutting people. Oh, my God. So if you go watch it, like I drop my right arm or I drop my left arm, all that means is as soon as you come across, I'm literally just throwing an uppercut. And I only got called once on it. And they looked at me and I never forget Bill. Like, what were you doing? And I said, oh, I bet he won't come off that edge again.
Starting point is 01:40:59 I just literally uppercut it every single person. Like, what the fuck are you doing? It is. Let me be. And I just jumped over the defensive lineman in Kansas City. Oh, yeah. You guys get eight sacks this game. What was working?
Starting point is 01:41:15 Oh, God, everything was working. By that time, the flusher, you can't run the ball. We knew they couldn't pass the ball. You stopped the run, you win the game. You play from the head, they got to throw. Adam Butler, people don't get him the credit that he deserves. Adam Butler is one that, the weapon that he just could turn his shoulders and get through the line. Slippery.
Starting point is 01:41:35 Beast. But he did it for everybody. And he's great at Fortnite. He's really good at Fortnite. Remember he was really good at like... Adam, where are we dropping Mueller? Yeah, all of it. He's still in the league, I think.
Starting point is 01:41:45 Yeah, he's with the Raiders. They did give him a contract. No stranger to the battle bus. But again, he wants you to get a sack. He doesn't care about himself. That's a good team guy. Yeah, and that's what happened. He's over there running...
Starting point is 01:41:56 When I mean, we had his calls to this run plays, the quarterback is that they were just doing stuff. I'm like, you guys did this running plays. It was just always something going on. And like I said, that show, like, Gino getting into Texas, shows you. Geno is running because Marriota, like, I don't know how you got to feel about Marriota. Eh.
Starting point is 01:42:17 My point. So we knew he stopped the run. He ain't going to beat him with his arm. And Bill will tell you this all the time. If he's not a great quarterback or the quarterback don't have confidence, make them beat us with their arm. Because we got the staff and we got the packages to stop them. And that's just how it goes.
Starting point is 01:42:36 And we can see by the third downs right there. It's crazy. Like the third downs they had and the fourth downs they had. It's just, it was just what it is. And it goes over that. And there's no turnovers. Which is also, except the fourth down. The one fourth down.
Starting point is 01:42:54 That's one turnover. We got to give some love to the defense, especially in this third quarter. Three plays on the first drive for negative two yards. These are Tennessee's drives. Three plays on the second drive minus seven yards. Three plays on the third. third drive of the quarter for negative six yards.
Starting point is 01:43:08 It's about the time. I mean, that's an insane drive chart. By the time I start sitting on the sideline looking at people like this, they're like, what you're doing? I said, my time is done. I said, it's all right. And I just sit there.
Starting point is 01:43:19 I was like, I did my job. He said, what's you doing? Field goal. I said, we don't got to do field goal block. I'm going to be there on field goal. And it's impressive because it showed us. Like this game was these running backs. I think DeMarco Murray not being there hurt them a lot.
Starting point is 01:43:35 And that's why don't remember him. being there. They hurt them a lot because he was having a good season. If we stopped the run, we could do anything because who do we play next? Jacksonville. And we could stop Derek carrying their runoff.
Starting point is 01:43:49 And how many yards he's had. Jacksonville had no shot. And we knew they didn't have no shot. And I could tell you the turning point in that game, is Leonard Fernette came in the huddle, tried to dab people up as we were losing. And during TV timeout, we all pushed him out the huddle.
Starting point is 01:44:05 and it changed it snapped, boom. I said, oh, he messed up. I said, you don't daff up people. What are we doing, bro? We're in a playoff. He's over there like, yeah. We're like, bro, we're losing right now. It changed everything.
Starting point is 01:44:18 But all we have to do is get past this team. We get past this team, Jacksonville can't stop us. It was a close game. That can't stop us. What's your favorite moment from this game? Sitting on the sideline. Watching you guys work.
Starting point is 01:44:34 I'll just be real with you. Sitting on the side of watching you. I'm watching you guys work. It means I did my job. It means I did my job. If I'm on the field a lot, being a runoffer. He either did your job or you really didn't do your job. One of those two things happened.
Starting point is 01:44:46 And it's just watching it. And it was such a good game to be a part of. It was fun. It was exciting. We played as a unit. We did it. Like, my job ain't sparse and lies. You get all this.
Starting point is 01:45:02 I did the dirty work. Yeah. So when you're doing the dirty work, that team win of holding people to low yardage, it's probably the best filling in the world because you ain't going to get that thing. The only person is going to give you your cookies and your flowers is built.
Starting point is 01:45:16 Yeah. The bill is like, oh, look, you guys did a good job. Everybody else is like, what did you guys do? Like, I had two people up at one time and this person got a tackle for loss. Well, I got a tackle for here. Like a good game with like, hey, we got four or five tackles, you know, maybe one for no game.
Starting point is 01:45:32 One there just our job. It's 47 yards of rushing. that was my good game. That's impressive. Hell Derek Henry to 12 carries on 28 yards. Jesus. I mean, 2.3 yards.
Starting point is 01:45:41 Wow. So there's huge aftermath to this game. Jack, break it down. There's a lot of aftermath to this game. The Patriots, as we said, would advance to their seventh straight AFC championship game.
Starting point is 01:45:52 Win that close one against the Jags. 24 to 20. Shout out, Stefan Gilmore, for the little tip there. Then fall of Philly. Dolla, massive game. Playoff Dola. Follow the Eagles and the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 01:46:04 Super Bowl unfortunately, 4133. Maddie P would leave for the Detroit job. Tennessee on the other end would bring in Mike Vrable in 2018 as their head coach, started his tenure there. In 2018, 2019, another run, baby. Back to the Super Bowl. This time, beat the Rams 13 to 3. That was a fun season.
Starting point is 01:46:26 Lawrence gets his first Super Bowl ring. That was a tough season. Dules win Super MVP. But it was fun. That was the old school season. And then we skipped minicamp. We were doing like old school days and stuff like that. Old school day.
Starting point is 01:46:37 Yeah, we talked to. Remember when I told you Bill did a time lapse about how teams used to prepare in like 1920 or something? What part of the year was this? It was an offseason. It was a mini camp. So in the spring, okay. It was the funnest season ever. People don't get it.
Starting point is 01:46:53 We lost all those three games, I believe, the first four weeks. We lost. Of 18? We were one of three. Yeah. We lost to Jacksonville. And we lost to, I was on a vacation.
Starting point is 01:47:04 I think we lost to Miami, right? Miami was the miracle year for Miami. Yeah, beat Miami the... That was in the later. The second time. So it was Texans, one, beat the Texans, lost to the Jags, lost to the Lions. Yeah. So one and two, started one and two.
Starting point is 01:47:18 We lost all the shitty teams. Yeah. They didn't, they had a, we just lost to the shitty teams. And it got to a point, well, how fun this was, because I remember we were the, Flows first year as coordinator. And we went to... Dr. Blitz. This attack.
Starting point is 01:47:32 to what is attack in one gap. Bill was like, you're either front side or backside. Everyone, this guy thinks he's Rex Ryan, everyone's the lining scrimmage. Hey, it was amazing for me.
Starting point is 01:47:42 Remember? I loved it. Bring everyone in line of scrimmage. We used to deal with that back in like 2011 with the Jets. Rex Ryan used to do a lot of that shit. Rex loved it. Loved it.
Starting point is 01:47:52 He would always get to time. Can you, before we move on, can you guys break down this old school day? I've heard this in legends. It sounds insane. What Bill did? It was old school day.
Starting point is 01:48:01 We literally watched films. They only had like three plays. They had projector films. And then you went into the cafeteria and there was hot dogs, coffee, and cigarettes. Like guys,
Starting point is 01:48:13 coaches were literally smoking in, in the facility. And then like some dumb ass guys were smoking cigarettes. They got the black of miles on the practice field smoking cigarettes. Yeah. There was only water. They had oranges.
Starting point is 01:48:27 Like it was, and then it was just like he wanted to show us what it was like for these guys that had second jobs playing in the national football. That's insane.
Starting point is 01:48:40 It was fun though. We did like all their warmups and shit. We did everything. We practiced in like their uniforms and stuff. It was fucking. It was fun. Forward passes. We'll be right back after this quick break.

Like, what are we eating? The highlights, the rivalries, the breakout stars, the moments that take over your entire timeline. And the conversations that start during the game and somehow keep going all week. Every week, we're breaking down the biggest stories across women's sports. Starting point is 01:50:22 No, it was fun. And we did the charade thing too when we pretended to be other people. Yeah. We did like acting thing that year. did a whole bunch of stuff. Again, we sucked the first couple of games. So funny.
Starting point is 01:50:39 But it was a blast that year. And people don't talk about it. It probably the funnish year of being on that team of what they did with Bill. Build has made it because Jack, Jack was doing all this stuff. It was organizing. Kobe came in that year. Oh, we heard about that. We did everything to the point.
Starting point is 01:50:56 It was unique. I don't know about everybody else, but it's fun winning on a way. trips, you know, because you come back. 18. We're over there, whipping ass, drinking Nikila on a flight, having a good old time. And it was just one of those things. It was like, hey, there was nobody that could stop us.
Starting point is 01:51:16 This was a year, like, we're winning. No matter what happens, we're going to win. And we just knew it. Yeah. Yeah, but it started out chunky. We were two and two. So we will just blitzing everything. Yeah. We had to learn our team, and it was a new team. It was, it was
Starting point is 01:51:31 I think I was top three for tackles for loss. in the NFL going in the week seven. We was just moving. We were definitely. Then we went back to that tilt front for defense. For offense, we didn't, it was a struggle to learn where we were because we were holding on by,
Starting point is 01:51:45 we were all getting starting to get old. Yes. You guys were old. Yeah, we were 32 then. Still got the job done though. Still got the job done. I was my late 20s. I was good.
Starting point is 01:51:57 As prime. Young Buck LG. That's prime. All right. All right. All right. All right. Let's name the game and score the game.
Starting point is 01:52:02 We came up with a group of name. if you have a specific name, we'll go with that name. But listen to ours first. We have the eight sack game. We have the divisional round beat down. And then we have the Tennessee Torching. The Viginal Round Beatdown. Trouncing.
Starting point is 01:52:19 Oh, Torching is good, too, though. I like him both. Torching is really good. The beat down is it sounds like, hey, you can make a whole song on that. Divisional Round Beat Down. Yeah. I like that. I like that.
Starting point is 01:52:31 Let's score the game. Is this the greatest game of all time? let's score it. The decimals are encouraged. The stakes of this divisional round game. Zero to ten decimals encourage. LG. I want to go home.
Starting point is 01:52:49 Eight. I like it. That's a pro score. I'm gonna go 7.9. What are we doing? That's 7.9. I mean, did you not hear me say three times decimals encourage?
Starting point is 01:53:02 8.3, we're all in the same bar. Desmals encourage. Oh, look, I was close. Yeah, we're all in the same ballpark. Somebody got to fail. All right, the star power of this game. I mean, on our side, a lot of stars. John Brady, Jamie and the Donald Lawrence guy.
Starting point is 01:53:15 What's the say on your side? On our side, a lot of stars. So we're doing, we're including all teams. Everything. Everything. I mean, we've had. Even guys in the crowd. Crowd.
Starting point is 01:53:25 Jim Nance in the booth. Tony Romo in the booth. I mean, you have a good crowd. But look. 9.5. Wow. 9.5? I mean, you have the goat out there.
Starting point is 01:53:35 You do have the goat out there. You do have the goat. Tony in a booth. Shout out, Tony. 8.4. I don't know, Jim. 8.4, I went with a 8.2. We're all in the same ballpark.
Starting point is 01:53:46 Same. Same. Same. Same. Let's go. Gameplay of the game. Tight. A couple three and outs to start the game. Defense of battle for a little bit. Then the defense eight sack daddy's. Offense goes 35 unanswered.
Starting point is 01:54:02 It's a routing. The game play. this game zero to ten decimals encouraged. I'm getting a rhythm going on, 8.5. I like it. 8.5. I'm getting a rhythm
Starting point is 01:54:16 how it's going to be scored. I'm going to go with an 8.1. Price is right. I want with a 7-5. A little low for me, but we're in the same ballpark. And finally. And then finally, the division round beat down.
Starting point is 01:54:34 Say that a thousand times. The name of the game, we score the name of the game, encouraged. I'll get that a 9.2. Nice. Pro score. It is a good, it is a good sound. I'm going to go with 8.9. 8.9. Let me see what I did before we did this. 6.1. A little low, but all right, I guess I'll stick with it. Pretty good. What's the grand total? Let's see our grand total here. 8.22. 822. Where's that go? That takes us. It's pretty high. top 50.
Starting point is 01:55:06 Yeah, that puts us at, let me see here. 2015, Ford. Yeah, it's our new 48th, I believe. Just between the Homestead Miami Speedway race and the 2004 Eastern Conference semifinals, Pistons Nets. And then also right below the Tour of Liddell fight, the Miracle Miami and the divisional round.
Starting point is 01:55:32 See, it's a divisional round. divisional round area. Yep. Yeah. Pretty solid. Top 50. Top 50. Let's go.
Starting point is 01:55:39 Do we ever talk about how that play happened in America, Miami? Did anybody ever talk about that? We had Brandon Bolden talk about it. We had BB Hulk smash in here. Yeah. Talk about it. And then we also had gronk talk about it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:55:52 Let's get your side, Lawrence. What's yours? So, Devin McCordy's never been off that play, ever. Bill pulls him out and puts gronking. And everybody's sitting on the sideline like, why? it's like grunts only in there for a jump ball there ain't no way the ball's going that far who was the quarterback who's the quarterback at that time
Starting point is 01:56:12 there ain't no way he's throwing a ball and I think there were there under 20 or something was it tanah hill no it wasn't tana hill I think it was 10ah already and what's the call me double check here um who was it no wasn't tanahill are you sure it wasn't was he gone by then he's gone it was an hill tan hill yeah was he had his shoulder or something that year
Starting point is 01:56:33 No, but regardless, he ain't throwing 89 yards. He ain't 30, nine yards. And all of a sudden, Bill goes to the sideline and says, hey, Grant, go in there, take Dev out. And Flo is like, you'll see people on the sign, like, what's going on? And they did that in a miracle of Miami bullshit. And what's sitting there? And I'm like, what the fuck is it? This is the bad part about it.
Starting point is 01:56:57 By the time it gets done, I'm still sitting on the sideline like, they got to kick a Phil goal. but they changed the rules. You didn't have a kick of a full goal. I'm like, look. And Joe Judge is like, nah, bro, they change the rules. You don't got to do it because in my head process, I was like, block it. I'm going to jump to snap and fuck up the center.
Starting point is 01:57:15 And at least if I can't block it, I'm going to make them do it. He's like, nah, go into the locker room and we're sitting there and Flo comes in the next day. Like, if nobody's going to take responsibility of what occurred that day, I'll do it. That's a cautious fault. And we went in that medium room. And Bill lit us all up on those low lights and it was your guys' fault because we shouldn't have been in this situation.
Starting point is 01:57:39 Look at this, play, this play. And we're just going back and forth. And nobody wants to bring up why was Grunk in the game. I am, hey, you said it. It didn't look good either. It was so 18 feet. It made them look so unathletic. I mean, usually a tackling drill is like 20 yards by 20 yards.
Starting point is 01:57:56 That's 52 and a third or 53 to 3rd. It made no sense. Yeah, yeah. Open field tackle for Gronkowski against a running back is very tough when you have no help. And don't forget, I think two people just gave up on the play. Like they just stopped running. We don't know. We know.
Starting point is 01:58:15 We're here to shine the brightness of the good days. We remember how that season ended. That's all that matters. It was the calcification that that team needed before it went on its run. Spark to win a Super Bowl in 28. I don't remember that ceremony that much either. I was drunk by the time. That's the best kind.
Starting point is 01:58:37 Those are the best kind. We had a coach peon, RKK's bathroom like Daddy Daycare. Everywhere and I had to help this coach. I ain't going to mention to him out. I'm going to help this coach. I'm drunk. I'm helping his coach up to RK's house. We're in there.
Starting point is 01:58:55 And the way his house is set up the bathroom is right here, his living rooms right here, the former with a white furniture. And I'm in the head, the guy walks in the bathroom. He said, he fucking peed everywhere. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:59:07 And I'm laughing. And this person's wife is like, it's not funny. I'm like, it is. Like, he daddy day cared this shit. Those are the funnest parties because...
Starting point is 01:59:16 We know semi how all the guys are in the locker room, right? You know, like when we're all having fun, but this is when everyone in the building, you see the equipment staff hammered. Everybody. You see the, The coach is hammered.
Starting point is 01:59:33 You see everyone is having a good time. And it's like the first time that you see everyone in the organization together having a great time. Super Bowl parties are the best. It's so great. I yanked up T.I. I also junk, drunk out and yanked up his little ass and take a photo. And it's in his body guard looked at him. It was like, oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:59:53 I ain't going to mess with him. He bigger than me. Man. Oh, God. The good days. It was great. Tr. Brown got me from the bar.
Starting point is 02:00:00 who trip brown had to physically get me from the bar from taking shots freaking old big old trend and i said thank you as you walked me to my wife i was like thank you i didn't really want to take that shot but i was in it oh my god man we miss anything from this game lg no i said this was this was the definition of a game when it comes down to playing complimentary football we did it the office held true the defense held true. It didn't start good, but it ain't it fantastically. And everybody knows that feeling when you went on a playoff game and you know what's next. Oh, my God, it's the best feeling in the world because you've got to get through one team and go to the Super Bowl. Doesn't matter
Starting point is 02:00:45 how the outcome was because we know how that game went, but it was a fantastic game and it shows. It doesn't matter how good you're running back is and how good your runoffice is if you play sound defense. It's going to get shut down. So fun hearing and learning about these types of games. You know, the important games to the big guys. Like this isn't like a flashy game that everyone remembers. But like to like the real football heads, the guys that really know ball.
Starting point is 02:01:18 Real ball. Stopping Derek Henry in that offense and the rush attack that they have and playing the game we had. The complimentary football. super, super fun. Everyone, go check out the Lawrence Guy Foundation. Anything else you plugging? Hey, Lawrence Guy Faming Foundation, it's the best thing I could do.
Starting point is 02:01:42 You know, once we leave the game, people kind of forget to stop their foundation work. And my biggest thing when I started my one, like, it got to continue. Got to continue. Because what we do off the field is bigger than what we do on the field because most of the time you're going to be remembered by a glimpse of what you do and how you are.
Starting point is 02:01:58 You're going to be remembered more about who you were as a person, what you're doing the community out there because you're going to make sure that everybody succeeds and grows. I think that's the biggest part of it. And that's when you go down to the locker room and locker room guys, they were like, this is what this person did to me. He helped me grow. And that's why I continue to do my foundation
Starting point is 02:02:19 because when I did for the next play, I want to do for the next family. The Lawrence Guy Family Foundation. Let's go. I'll be dropping gyms on my words. I just got told that a couple days ago. I mean, before we let you go, before we let you go, I ask one last question.
Starting point is 02:02:38 What does football mean to you? Football is everything. Football's an opportunity to get out your circumstance. Football's opportunity to build a brotherhood is the biggest fraternity in the world. The growth that you have on the field, off the field of growth that you have as an individual, the confidence level.
Starting point is 02:02:55 and I tell this to everybody when I still get the call from young guys everybody in our locker room is going to do the same thing this is our outlet we could talk to each other we can express each other's emotions we can live and beyond that
Starting point is 02:03:11 and football becomes more of a family I just had the McCordy twins at my house they're the godfathers and the wife's of the godmother's my two twins it's one of those things that it's bigger than the game what people think about it is yeah, the game stops once you put the pads down, but it doesn't stop when you build that brotherhood.
Starting point is 02:03:30 It continues to go. You're not how many times you talk to somebody, but once you see them, it all comes back. And that's what football means. Football means everything because it's an aspect to show each other the true individual emotion of each other. That's beautiful. Hell of an answer.
Starting point is 02:03:47 You know, one thing, though, I understand Jason being a godfather. Dev, I don't know. You know, that was kind of an a hole. Just saying, just kind of Jason, my guy. James, I don't know, bro. Hey, he's my teammate. I'm like, I'm like, hey, Jay.
Starting point is 02:04:07 I'm like, I looked at Dev one day. He was like, what you got? I said, I got moonshine cherries. He said, what are these? I said, you want to try something? He's like, what? You're like, hey, Dewey, you don't have no part of this? I'm like, hey, Dev, you don't want no part of this, bro.
Starting point is 02:04:21 I got him. But I got these moon signs, cherries. Hey. It was everything. We do, every year we link up. The families come down in Florida. We go up there to New Jersey. It's awesome.
Starting point is 02:04:32 It's something. But he is exactly what he. I saw him at the Jack Wilder practice and I saw the head to start moving. I said he's being an asshole right now. Hey. This is what he is. It's just what he is. Somebody got to be that.
Starting point is 02:04:43 So many guys are serious ones. Something got to be the assholes. Some got to be the jokker. It got to be there. And somebody got to be the shit talker. That's why they couldn't get enough of us in the training room. These are him or me. and you get all those characteristics with Jason and Dev.
Starting point is 02:05:00 100%. They're amazing. What it takes. LG, thanks for coming on, bro. Appreciate you having me. That was awesome. That was awesome.
Starting point is 02:05:08 Oh, LG. He got, he got stories. We got to get LG here for part too easy. Oh, we just got a story time with LG. Story time with LG sign me up any day of the week.
Starting point is 02:05:18 Because he's got some stories that I forgot about and that he was telling me it might have to be after hours. Bro, it sounds like that D-Line room was on X-Games mode at all times. What was going on over there? You guys, I mean, this just tells you the complexity. Yeah, I mean, it's the locker room is a wild ecosystem, man. What a chip challenge, hot gummy bear challenge. No, L.G was a challenge guy.
Starting point is 02:05:43 He's a challenge guy. But he would always do it to like the equipment peeps or the physical, the PT. You know, he was pretty good with all those guys. I like that. Like he was coming off like he was like he could be assholy, but like he was very endearing to those people as well. I like that. You know what I mean? Like he did that stuff.
Starting point is 02:06:01 Like a lot of those guys, the guys that were like the biggest assholes kind of, they would take care of. It's out of love. You know, it was more of like a show. Honestly. It keeps it fun. Keeps these days fun. It was. And it's just kind of what we all saw from the generation before us.
Starting point is 02:06:18 Yeah, dude. We learned from the best. My man's like T.J. laughing out the way he's hosting challenges. Out there just trying to be like, you know. I don't know. I love it. LG. Come on back whenever, dog.
Starting point is 02:06:28 LG. That was awesome. Congratulations on twins. Twins. Twins. Unbelievable. What is that from Austin Powers? Austin Powers.
Starting point is 02:06:39 Oh my God. Bro. Mike Myers said they're making a fourth. He was on some pod the other day. He said it. No way. Crazy, right? How cool.
Starting point is 02:06:47 I would love to see it. I would love. Austin Powers rocks. Squeeze me. Squeez me. Oh, behave. Suck it to me, baby. That's due for a rewatch.
