Starting point is 00:02:26 Next thing I know, I'm actually chilling at home, and I see across the ticker, like, oh, man, Bengals trade Corey Judd. That's how you find out? Bottom ticker? I'm sitting there with a piece of chicken. Like, wait, wait a minute. Right, what? Welcome to Games with Names.
Starting point is 00:02:46 I'm Julian Edelman. They're Jack and Kyler, and we are on a mission to find the greatest game of all time. And on today's episode, we are covering Corey Dillon's 260. 78-yard record-breaking game in week 8 of the 2000 season between the Broncos and the Bengals with Super Bowl champion legendary running back, a man that may have trucked, Vince Wilfork, Corey freaking Dylan.
Starting point is 00:03:12 And we get into talking what it's like breaking an NFL rushing record. I'm over there being, you know, I'm in my feelings a little bit. I'm like, I'm overwhelmed. Getting traded to the Patriots. I kind of got the feeling like Bill is not the person, And who's the modern day Corey Dillon? We're kind of similar with the power and speed aspect. That dude got a mean stiff arm too.
Starting point is 00:03:37 And then we talked the sports bucket list on this week's chill zone presented by Coors Light. You got to stick around to the end. Let's go. Games with Names of Names of Productions of IHeart Radio. October 22nd, 2000. Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio. 22 carries two touchdowns, 278 yards.
Starting point is 00:04:05 And a place in the record books. This is the 278-yard game. Come on me. One hour. Welcome to Games with Names. Today we are looking at the 278-yard game, Cincinnati versus Denver. Week 8, 2000 match with Corey freaking Dylan. Corey, in one sentence, why did you pick this game?
Starting point is 00:04:50 I think that was probably my best game ever. I was just in the zone, and I think the team, we were struggling, man. I don't think we won a game up until that game that season. So it was just one of those weird games where, like, everything was clicking. Offensive line was bulldozing people over. And it just seemed to me like everybody was just a tad slower than my speed. So, yeah, it just turned out to be a good day. It ended up winning our first game in Paul Brown Stadium.
Starting point is 00:05:25 Wow. Is this the greatest game of all time? To me, yeah. Yeah. I like it. I mean, the record's been broken, but it wasn't against, like, the number two ranked defense at the time. And I kind of like it because, you know what, I did it on 22 carries. And eight of those carries were negative yards. And crazy, we'll get into the game. Right. I want to get into the game later. But the other guy, they gave you a couple. They gave a couple of your touches to the other guy, and he broke off, which I would have done. I was going mad.
Starting point is 00:05:59 He brought him. Brandon Bennett. Yeah. He got up and brink you. Yeah. And dude, there was one carry in there. I broke for 30. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:08 They called it back. So I'm thinking like, damn, I could have 300 yards. I know. I know. You know. So we just had big will fork on, big V. That's my guy, man. And he told us the story about you running him over.
Starting point is 00:06:20 I didn't know that. It's who he said that. Did you not? I never knew that. Is that just how you were? ran you just ran like a bat out of hell didn't care what was you didn't see you just ran here's the funny thing man i know bill used to stand behind the offense so in my mind i used to think like man this guy is telling the defense where i'm going you know what i mean yeah so it was just
Starting point is 00:06:44 we used to like just walk through you i used to tell them guys man say that for the game because rodney are come and hit you seymour come and hit you william get aggressive with you and brusky and all these guys. And it was just one of those things where I'm like, man, I got to stay full speed all the time against these guys because I don't know what kind of moved they in. Or they just want to butt up or they're really going to try to hit you. So it was just one of those plays and we kind of met in a hole.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Yeah. And we just kind of thud it up. I didn't think nothing of it. I went back to the huddle and, you know, ran the next play. But then I seen Vince on here explaining like, dang, he was dizzy. My bad big homie. I didn't know.
Starting point is 00:07:25 That's a lot of mass. Man, when I got on Twitter and saw the Cory Dillon responded to that Twitter, oh my God. I must faint to my eyes where his biggest saucers. Oh, my God, yeah. We'll get into those New England days later,
Starting point is 00:07:35 but I want to talk about your come-up. You're from Washington. Yes. And so I grew up in the Bay Area. And so when I was growing up, they had Day LaSalle. Oh, yeah, man. And the team that knocked them off
Starting point is 00:07:49 their like 15, 20-year run, Bellevue, Washington. man, we used to wop on Bellevue. I'm from Franklin High School, man. So, yeah, every time, like, we would never play them, like, we were in totally different divisions, but we'll play them, like, scrimmage games and stuff like that. And I think we were, we were at the time, double-way.
Starting point is 00:08:10 I think they were triple-A, so we'd never match up. But high school football out there, underrated. Underrated and big-time. A lot of great players. I mean, lawyer Malloy, you know, he was, we're all from the same spot. So, yeah, a lot of good football up there. It's been known for basketball. A lot of hoopers, too.
Starting point is 00:08:28 A lot of hoopers, too. But football, we played, we played all right. Now, you ended up at Washington. Yes. How I was playing in the original Pac-10? I mean, I was, I, you know. Yeah, I'm old, right? The Pac-10, man.
Starting point is 00:08:40 So I'm from there. So I think a childhood dream of mine was always going to the dub. It was something about the gold and gold and purple. The huskies, man, right? Yeah, man. Yeah. Tyrone Willingham? I remember he went there.
Starting point is 00:08:55 He was, I wanted to go there when he went there because he was in Stanford. Oh, man. It was, it was a, see, Don James.
Starting point is 00:09:00 I was like, yeah. Don James, one 90? Yeah, man, I want to play for Don James. So about time I got there,
Starting point is 00:09:08 um, the coach was Jim Lambrite. So I just transferred in from Dixie college. Juco guy. Yeah, from St. George. So their team was already stacked. It was,
Starting point is 00:09:21 you know, I had to, get in there and make a name for myself. I mean, they already had All-American running back at the time, right? So I ended up getting second on the depth chart and it was just
Starting point is 00:09:33 weird like Bashan Shihi. I think he was at a party and he was something happy with his ankle and he couldn't play the next game. And you know me, man. I like jacking for positions, man. Don't give me the ball.
Starting point is 00:09:49 Yeah. Because it's going to be hard not to give me the ball from that point on. So I got in there and did my thing, man, and turned out pretty good. So then I, you had a, you rushed for 300 yards against my San Jose State Spartans, bro. We got to, I mean, I played in that at a high school football from my team, but in a quarter that we got to, we got to put some sign on that. Like, if you're a ball, though, you got to know this game. 222 yards, 83 yard reception in a quarter? In one quarter.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Three and five, all purpose yards. in one quarter that's insane might still be a record i think it still is yeah i'll double check that but my god that's what corey dillan does something light some light no light work how much ball are you watching these days very few games i like to watch when the playoffs hit but like regular season if it's not like a big marquee man i ain't really you know yeah i'm not really i mean shoot i've been looking at football all my life i could take a little bit little break. Take a break. Take a little break up. And I'm more, I watch more basketball than football. Who's your squad? Go and State Warriors. Were you always a Warriors guy? No, no, Sonics back in the
Starting point is 00:11:03 day? Oh, I love this. Yeah, I'm a home. Sean Kim. Yeah. GP. Yeah, man, I'm a homer. But you got a, like, some of your superstars get old and retire. Yeah. So my guy, it went from Michael Jordan. I love Michael Jordan. Chicago. And then I was a Kobe fan. Still am. Yeah. You know, so when Kobe retired, I was like, hmm, what's the team I can sit down and, you know, have a meal and really watch? You know, it was this little, like, skinny kid, man, shooting that ball, man. Crazy shots. Yeah, from half-court, I'm like, hmm, gee, state.
Starting point is 00:11:39 I like them. Yeah, I've been a fan ever since he's been to go at Golden State. Yeah, I mean, I remember him at Davidson. Oh, we was killing it, man. Shout out. Jack was there. Shout out, baby. David's a native, baby.
Starting point is 00:11:51 He was killing him, man. He went to the final four, right? Elite eight. He should have been in final four. Should have beat Kansas. God darn it. But he's low-key ruined the game. Oh, he broke the game.
Starting point is 00:12:00 No, he's ruined basketball. Oh, yeah. Because he'll throw up these crazy shots that like 15, 20 years ago, you'd say, what the fuck are we doing? Oh, he'd be on a bench. But he makes him. But now we got everyone trying to do this. Right.
Starting point is 00:12:15 Now, it's crazy to me. Like, you watch NBA basketball now. It's like 43s a game. It's unbelievable. We had Joe Mizzoula. There's only one doing that. I know. I give him credit, man.
Starting point is 00:12:26 He changed the game. He did. Completely. One man. One man. Everybody thinks they could shoot threes now. Yeah. Speaking of another guy who changed a game.
Starting point is 00:12:35 What about Saquan Barkley last year? Rejuvenating the running back position where everyone's been trying to abandon. What's the state of the union on the running backs right now? I don't really get it. Like, the running back position been marquee from day one. Day one? I think all the positions are marquee. Are they go hand in hand?
Starting point is 00:12:59 I think when that team started focusing on doing things by committee, I think that's where the value of the running back kind of got diminished. As they can see now, times get rough, late in them playoffs. You need a running game. You definitely need a running game. So I'm glad he rejuvenated that position well, well needed, because I don't know. I mean, if they want to do that, you could look, basically, you could look at every position they try to devalue it. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:13:32 Yeah. Why that position? So I'm glad he brought it back around and, and boosting him back up that running back position because for a while, man, it was looking bad. Yeah. The running, like the run game sets everything. Like, you could win games with the past game. Yes, you can. And that's what is sexy and that's what's fun.
Starting point is 00:13:53 But the way to control a game is through the run game. And so, like, you see these teams that go up and they get up on these high scores and they're like up 22 points and they don't have run game and these other teams come and they chase them down. You know, the team that sits there and can control the game to try to win the game has the best opportunity usually to win to me, I think. And I think in any, well, teams today, I would say like the team with the best running game, nine times out of the team is going to win. Yeah. Definitely. Nine out of ten.
Starting point is 00:14:31 There's that one time where the past could get it. But there's so many things that have to happen. So many things. If you can control that clock, you got a better, better opportunity coming out with a W. Yeah, because then you're also keeping the other explosive. Off the field. There's so many complimentary things that come around with the running back position. So who's the Corey Dillon of the NFL this generation?
Starting point is 00:14:55 I'm going to have to go with King Henry, man. I think. King Henry. Yeah, man. I think we're all a little bit different, but we're kind of similar with the power and speed aspect. Power and speed. Yeah. And that dude got a mean stiff arm too.
Starting point is 00:15:08 So I kind of like to watch him run. If he ever gets a hold of this podcast, I got a, I got a, suggestion for my big homie take the arm pads off bro that you got to feel the skin you got it you got to feel that ball yeah man I had a problem with that definitely you used to wear him I used to man and and I never like late in the game sweating slippery easy guy come swipe that thing popping around on the on the field so me personally I took them off you get you yeah Yeah, I'm definitely left arm. I was dominantly left in it, so I always carried it in my left hand.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Yeah, I went sleeveless, man, and kind of cut down on some of that fumbling problem. Yeah, it's tough to see that this is coming around Derek Henry right now. Right. Because he's never really had a problem. Never. You know, and then all the critics are going to say, well, he's getting older, this, that. But it's, you know. I don't think that's it.
Starting point is 00:16:11 And it could be simple as arm sleeve. arm sleeve could be simple as arm sleeve yeah how do you work on um fumbling like if you get the little bit of the fumbles like what do you do to try to like mix it up or try to like break through and three points of contact right yeah man you got a bro you consciously like i'm gonna squeeze the hell out of this ball and you got to be aware like when you get that last fumble he had man honestly i don't think he knew big boy he i don't hutch he's strong too hutch is a lot behind two is a monster bro i don't think he was aware he was behind no at all and that that easily can happen to anybody so i'm not really going to fault them because of that but so sometimes just
Starting point is 00:17:00 like subconsciously you got to you got to have that in your mind like squeeze this ball yeah it's just as simple as that stay behind it yeah what's what's the thought on the bengals these days damn damn that's a great that's a great thought I love him I love Joe Burrow man
Starting point is 00:17:23 I think he done changed the whole complexion of how people view Cincinnati but man dude that game last week holy
Starting point is 00:17:34 yo and that's my guy from the dub so you know I'm rooting yeah it was kind of it was bad but
Starting point is 00:17:41 they they need need Joe, man. I mean, they got a great squad. Chase, Kiggins, Joe. And, you know, and it's funny, man, we, we, we talk about this running game. I don't, I don't get it. Like, you got to, you got to implement that running game. It takes the pressure off a second screen quarterback, quarterback coming in and thinking he got to sling the ball 40 times a game just to win. You got to, you got to simplify the offense and, and get that running game started it'll take a lot of pressure off the offense i mean prime example josh allen i was on
Starting point is 00:18:22 tv screaming dude we got to get this run game going let josh have to do josh for five plays a game right don't let josh be josh for 40 plays hand that thing off set up like take the other let the other guys get hit right and it also takes pressure off your offense align who likes to go forward instead of fucking sit and pass blocking all day when you can get all these fucking games and stuff. Right. So, like, that's why it's important to have the run game. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Sets it up. Sets everything up. Sets it up. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a running. That's coming from Edelman, man. I mean, I agree with it. Absolutely. But, well, for me, though, like, when you had a good running game, you would get the one-on-one
Starting point is 00:19:07 matchups. You know what I mean? So they would have to take that safety and if they bring that safety in the box, that means there's a less guy deep, so you're going to have better coverage as a receiver. Yeah, man. Yeah, it's simple. It's simple.
Starting point is 00:19:20 I don't know where the game got so pass happy. But it happens. Some of those offenses is. You've got to be able to pass to win. That's the thing. You got to be able to. You have a great passing game. You can't win with just the running game,
Starting point is 00:19:37 but that's how you get long sustained success. is through a running game. There's going to be a third down, a fourth down, that you're going to have to complete a pass in a drop-back pass offense. But it'll be a lot easier when you've been beating up on that defensive line all fucking game while running the ball.
Starting point is 00:19:58 They're not going to be coming out like a bat out of hell. Yeah, it's, I don't know. Get it third and short. You know what I mean? Like, you can control that running the ball. Of course you're going to have like third and five. and third and sevens, and that's where the past game, you know, kicks in and takes effect. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:20:17 Let's get into your run style. Okay. How would you describe your run style? I watched a lot of Jim Brown. Jim Brown. Nice. Film, man. And that's who I wanted to be like, you know?
Starting point is 00:20:31 I watched a lot. It looked like, you know what, he get hit, he get up slow, you know, stumble back to the huddle, and come back and run you over again and it was just repeated and I was just watching him all that film I was watching he was big strong fast
Starting point is 00:20:51 and I'm like hmm I'm gonna try to patent my game after that and then on top of that I you know I grew up watching football so it was like the Tony Dorsets yeah try to steal a little bit from him the Eric Dickerson's they try to yeah big guys
Starting point is 00:21:07 fast take a little from him Earl Campbell's Walter Payton's Barry Sanders I never could be like that that dude is phenomenal but yeah I just used to watch
Starting point is 00:21:22 the running back position and watch all these great running backs and then be like hmm I like that I'm gonna take a little bit from there take a little bit from there and then you know what kind of form my own style which my thing was I call it my little bag Like, you know, I may start off the first two quarters running you over,
Starting point is 00:21:42 setting you up. Next two quarters, I might try to dance around you and mix it up. So, or vice versa, you know, just depends on what kind of what they're giving me. Kind of worked out. It worked out pretty good. But you also, you were always like really good, like the duo play. You know, duo where you have the two double teams and the running back really has to set that up. It's all vision, man.
Starting point is 00:22:07 You know what I mean? Yeah. And you can't be too early to the cut or the fucking the guy scrapes over. Yeah. Can you explain that? I was real. Well, we had this Jim Anderson, running back coach for Cincinnati. This is what he preached to me constantly.
Starting point is 00:22:25 Slow to fast through, meaning footwork and press the line. But at a pace where you could see the cuts. And that's all I really did I never went full speed Grabbing that ball I was always on my footwork And a little patient enough Where I pressed that line
Starting point is 00:22:46 Where I could see multiple cuts And just by doing that alone Things are open up Like I can see the backside See the defense over pursuing And then you know what As soon as I see that opening That's when I explode through
Starting point is 00:23:01 Yeah And then once you get there You're looking for I'm looking for whoever wants the smoke. Whoever wants the smoke. Did you ever get to meet Jim Brown? Yes. And it was funny, man.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Met him a couple times. Great dude. Met him first time I was over. I was playing Encino Golf Course. And he used to be out there all the time. So what was funny, he was like, yeah, I know you. You played some pretty good ball. And I was like, wow, the great job.
Starting point is 00:23:34 Jim Brown. He actually knew. You know what I mean? So you meet one of your idols and they're speaking highly of you, man. It's a good feeling. Yeah. That's awesome, man. Jim Brown.
Starting point is 00:23:48 I met him. Bill took us. I want to say I met Bill or Bill took us to the Hall of Fame like for a team trip or something. I don't know why we were over there. But when it's like a team trip there, I think Jim Brown was there. and I shook his hand. I didn't get to, like, talk with him or anything. But it's fucking Jim Brown's got that big of impact.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Oh, yeah, man. Like, he just got aura. Like, we all talk about all these little kids, talking about aura. Yeah. Fucking Jim Brown got aura. You know what? I call him the godfather of running backs, man.
Starting point is 00:24:22 I think every running back wanted to be like him in some aspects. So he looked like a, he looked like a varsity high school. player playing against eighth graders. Yeah, Pop Warner. Easy. Like, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:24:41 It's just like, and that's honestly low-key when we were talking about Derek Henry, I met when he had it before the fumble started to happen in this year, he was wrecking that team. And he stiffed arm a couple of these Buffalo Bills, professional athlete safeties. Right. Making them look like little kids.
Starting point is 00:25:01 I was thinking Jim Brown. Yeah. That's what Jim Brown used to do to guys. All day, every day. Yes. So, yeah, man, that legend. I think he birthed a lot of good running backs. He did.
Starting point is 00:25:15 We just had Lorenzo Neal on the show. Oh, yeah. That guy said something else. LoNeil. Yeah, man. He looks like a fullback. But we had the conversation because in our research, like, Jim Brown is sometimes referred to as a fullback, sometimes referred to as a halfback.
Starting point is 00:25:32 Like, it's just interesting where the fullbacks claim. them they don't claim them just doesn't matter he's an incredible back he's a tailback that could do anything yeah yeah but all that like pf r calls him a fullback but it's like he's really running back no no no just and shots out to low low nil man that guy great times with that's a funny with that guy man um and yeah man full back position that dude there's been many of times he got up in there and got on that linebacker gave me space to do my thing so big up to him as well now we just uh we had james devlin on it also we asked about the fullback running back relationship and what did jimmy say he said that like
Starting point is 00:26:18 he he felt like a protector for the running back and like whatever the running back he learned a lot from the running backs when he was in usFL because how he blocked would they would be like all right you're not doing it or what's that relationship with the tailback and full back on the other direction. Man, we got to be in sync because, you know what? Like, my thing, like, I used to tell low-neil, man, like, make a decision quick. Like, I used to look at head placement on which way I'm going to cut. Like, if he got his head outside or, yeah, I'm, you know what, I'm going to keep it to the
Starting point is 00:26:55 left. If he got it inside, you know what? I'm going to cut it back in. So having those conversations and that relationship and where he knows, like, however he's blocking that guy. Yeah. My guy's going to make, make a quick decision. Those are things you need to know.
Starting point is 00:27:11 Like if you're at the cafeteria and there's like a group of guys and getting ready to go to the hot food station, does you see like little low, Neil? Does he's like burgeon away for you to get through? Oh, man. Bulldozing. Bulldozing away. In the hallway. Yeah. Bulldozing away, man. I have never. Hey.
Starting point is 00:27:31 And we had that, we had that type of relationship where. I knew he was going to go out there and get active and do him. I never worried about that. My thing was just like, as soon as he made that contact where the play is, just reading off him, man. And we had a lot of success doing that. He did.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Yeah. He did. Now take us through, we know you as a Cincinnati Bengal. Yeah. That's what this game is. But let's talk about when you went to New England. Oh, wow. Let's talk.
Starting point is 00:28:02 How did that happen? We all, we know. But I want to hear it from you. I want to hear it from you. Well, well, here was a situation. I got hurt in 03. So I think I, you know, partially tore my, what was it, MCL, tore my groin.
Starting point is 00:28:23 So I was, I missed like eight games, man. I was on the show. And this is back in the day when running backs were getting like 800 carries a year. Yeah, so I was on the shelf. And RIP to my guy, Rudy Johnson, man um he came in and stepped up and he played very well so i was thinking like hmm and i'm getting up there this is like my seventh seventh season and there was
Starting point is 00:28:49 rumors of i'm sitting at home there was a rumor of the bengals trying to trade me to dallas and i'm like really i said okay okay i said no problem i mean i'm just saying And in my mind, I'm like, yeah, just keep that same energy when I get all healed up and and I'm going to finish out the season and we're going to reopen this situation. And yeah, I went in. I was speaking to Marvin Lewis and I was just like, you know what? It's been nice. I think my time is up here.
Starting point is 00:29:24 I like to move on and go somewhere. And it was just as simple as that. And I'm just looking at it from a standpoint of. Seven years, man, I was, we didn't win that much. And I'm, and I'm kind of, you know, looking in the mirror and looking at my career of, man, I probably got two to three more left. Where do you want to go with this? What you want to do? So, and then as you know, like, I heard this.
Starting point is 00:29:55 I heard this a lot. It was, it was media play of the Patriot way. I didn't know what they hell that was. They got a cold over there? Or is it Some militant Some kind of You know
Starting point is 00:30:08 I didn't And the media was like Oh Yeah Corey's not a Patriot way guy That would never work And I'm just thinking like Shit maybe I don't want to go there either
Starting point is 00:30:18 I don't know You know I just like to play football And Rodney Harrison We had the same agent at that time I give him big props I think he went in there
Starting point is 00:30:31 And spoke on my behalf you know and that's where the interest kicked up and you know what I didn't think I was ever going to get traded to be honest with you I was just talking shit like yeah you know you give me a body here whatever and it picked up it picked up and next thing I know I'm actually chilling at home
Starting point is 00:30:53 and I see across the ticker like oh man Bangles trade Corey did that's how you find out bottom ticker Like, I'm sitting there with a piece of chicken. Like, wait, wait a minute. Like, what? And then, you know, I get the call.
Starting point is 00:31:14 I get the call. My age, he's funny, man. He's funny. And he's like, yeah, man. It's going down. So you're a patriot now. And that's a whole, whole different experience, man, to be honest with you. Who calls you first from the Patriots?
Starting point is 00:31:30 Actually, let me kick back until. how it really, like, transpired. I actually went down and seen Scott and Bill first. I didn't, I'm just meeting them and just saying, you know, hello. And they asked me a couple questions like, you know, you know Bill's straightforward. Yeah, Corey, I know all the shit going on in Cincinnati. And I just, I told them straight up. I was just like, man, it's all predicated on me just wanting to win, win football games.
Starting point is 00:32:01 And he asked me one more question. And he said, you know what? You think you could play for us? I was like, absolutely. We kind of, it was like a two to five minute meeting, got up, left. Never thought about it. Never thought about, you know, they actually trade for me. Kind of left it alone until it came across the ticker and was like, oh shit, it's going down.
Starting point is 00:32:24 So, yeah, it was, it was simple. It was just a simple process of, I don't know if that was tampering back then. I don't know. I don't know, but it was Scott Piole and Bill, and yeah, two to five minutes, man, and we're out of there. Bill just needed to hear you say, I just want to win. That part of it. That's all he.
Starting point is 00:32:47 That part of it, man. And because 1,600 yards, 12 touchdowns, your first season. That's all he wanted to hear. Well, that as well, but he just wanted to see it. If he was about winning, then he believed that his environment, he would adapt to it. There you go. He would see Tom Brady.
Starting point is 00:33:03 He would see Rodney and everybody else. And then, you know what? The whole thing about the Patriot, well, you know what? I just kind of figured out is just doing your job, which I was pretty damn good. One of the best. Doing my job and being quiet and, you know, I'm like, yeah, I can do this. Absolutely. So it worked, I think my personality kind of matched like what they, what they wanted, you know,
Starting point is 00:33:37 because all I wanted to do just go out there and play football and I didn't really care on how it looked. As long as you were winning, I'm good with it. So you're coming from Cincinnati. Yes. What's the first thing that comes through your head when you enter New England? Because they already, they just won the Super Bowl. They just won the Super Bowl. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:33:55 You get into, you get into New England. What do you, like, fuck. Pitching yourself? That part of it. I'm like, yo, like, that's what, man, I'm going to tell you, I'm going to be straight up, man. That's a lot of pressure, though, man. It was a lot of pressure because I'm thinking like, damn, they just won a school bowl. What in the hell did you need me for?
Starting point is 00:34:18 You know what I mean? Yeah. So that's a lot of pressure. And then it was the whole thing of me leaving Cincinnati going there. So that was a story itself And then the Patriot way Is he got to fit in or not But once I got there man
Starting point is 00:34:35 You know I don't played against these guys for a long time I know some of these guys, man We're cool So the thing I loved about it is like From a organization and players' perspective They welcomed me You know, it was cool They made me feel at home
Starting point is 00:34:52 And that kind of took some of the pressure off and some of the stuff I was thinking. And then when it comes down to it, man, to me, it was like, man, all I got to do is show up and play ball. And that was the only focus on my mind. And if I do that, man, everything's going to work itself out. So, and that's basically what happened in 2004. I just showed up and play ball.
Starting point is 00:35:15 What was the first encounter with Bill like? Oh, man. You know what? After you guys signed. Hey, I kind of got the feeling, like, Bill is not the person to be fucked with me. I'm dead serious. He had this fear factor with the players of, like, man, he is not playing no game. So if you ever sat in some of them team meeting rooms with him, he is funny as I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:50 I mean, got a funny sense of humor. He'll tell you like, hey, man, you don't want to do it my way. I will walk you to the door myself. And he's serious. So I took that man very, very serious. And I was like, man, I do not want to do anything to get on this man bad side. So, yeah, it was a self-checker for me. Like, man, I'm always on top of my game because he will call you out.
Starting point is 00:36:17 Oh, yeah. He definitely will call you out. We'll be right back after this quick break. Hi there, this is Josh Clark from the Stuff You Should Know podcast. In early 1988, federal agents raced to track down the gang they suspect of importing millions of dollars worth of heroin into New York from Asia.
Starting point is 00:38:04 We had 30 agents ready to go with shotguns and rifles and you name it. But what they find is not what they expected. Basically, your stay-at-home moms were picking up these large amounts of heroin. They go, is this your daughter? I said yes. They go, oh, you may not see her for like 25 years. Caught between a federal investigation and the violent gang who recruited them, the women must decide who they're willing to protect
Starting point is 00:38:34 and who they dare to betray. Once I saw the gun, I tried to take his hand and I saw the flash of light. Listen to the Chinatown Stang on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or anywhere you get your podcasts. Malcolm Gladwell here. This season on Revisionous History, we're going back to the spring of 1988 to a town in northwest Alabama, where a man committed a crime that would spiral out of control.
Starting point is 00:39:04 35 years. That's how long Elizabeth's and its family waited for justice to occur. 35 long years. I want to figure out why this case went on for as long as it did. why it took so many bizarre and unsettling turns along the way and why, despite our best efforts to resolve suffering, we all too often make suffering worse. He would say to himself, turn to the right, to the victim's family,
Starting point is 00:39:32 and apologize, turn to the left, tell my family I love him. So he would have this little practice, to the right, I'm sorry, to the left, I love you. From Revisionous History, this is The Alabama Murders. Listen to Revisionist history, The Alabama Murders on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Now, how was the O line? Like, how was light? Was light like just the funniest human being in the world?
Starting point is 00:39:58 Oh, my God. He was, man, always, always pulling some kind of joke or talking shit or something along that line. I mean, he kind of lightened up the, you know, the room. And, oh, man, it was him and Drewsey and the rest of the guys, man, it was just funny. Yeah. I think we had a real, that offense was real, real fun. I mean, even though, like, we knew the assignment and at times, things are super serious and we're all about the execution.
Starting point is 00:40:32 But, you know, we had some funny guys on that old where things, I mean, even in like situations out there on the field where made things kind of light and we was like, oh, man, we got this. you know so matt light is one of those guys he was always coach a coach was always on him like matt shut the fuck he was like quiet he's always cracking some kind of joke so it was it it was good man that whole team man that oh 14 young brady ish king barry was in there i was king brady then man i tell you one thing man this is when i got there man I love the guy because you know what I'm just getting there
Starting point is 00:41:18 and we'd be in some pressure situations out there this guy did not flinch one bit you ain't never seen that I have never seen that and you can identify with this like when that guy calls your number
Starting point is 00:41:33 in that huddle man you run through 10 brick walls for this guy I mean there's their situation he was like A, Rock, he used to call me Rock. He's like, Rock, we need this first down to seal this game. We're giving it to you like three times in a row if we have to. And I'm like, bad, I got this.
Starting point is 00:41:54 You know what I mean? And, bro, sure enough, like, man, just a little extra pep in my step. Yeah. He called me out like, yeah, we need this. Three times in a row. Let's get the first and seal the game. So, hell of competitor. I just loved his mental aspect about the gang.
Starting point is 00:42:16 He first went in, first went out, had the whole locker room respect. Good dude, man. Good dude. If he was here, he'd be hanging out, talking shit too. Yeah. That's the type of person. Maybe one day.
Starting point is 00:42:29 Maybe one day. Yeah. Hey, one day. Hey, you like the president now. It's hard to catch up with this guy. Maybe one day. Hey, man, can I get a, hey, man, can you, can you friend me on IG?
Starting point is 00:42:39 Something, man. Hey, we got a better luck of getting the Pope in here for the guy. It's right. He's a football guy. Hey, man. Who is the team asshole?
Starting point is 00:42:51 Oh, my God. But that we all loved. Let me see. Oh, my God. There's some guys out there. There's the Braebles. There's the... There's the...
Starting point is 00:43:00 Ha! You hit it. You hit it. First try. Oh, man, Braves is something. different man always going against the grain like nah this is not why are we doing this
Starting point is 00:43:18 you know yeah so and him and him and him and him and bill was always into it about something Braves is a good dude though man good yeah that's frames man hell of a player man yeah smart smart smart smart smart player and and you know
Starting point is 00:43:37 this is they preach this this is what Bill wants tough, smart football players Braves is one of those people Oh yeah How do you think he's gonna Do you know he's gonna be a head coach Did you know he's gonna be I never
Starting point is 00:43:49 I never thought about that I'm like I used to run his ass over in practice Now he's the head coach So I look at this guy man But no man It fits him Yeah it fits him man He was one of those brilliant minds out there
Starting point is 00:44:07 Do you watch the Pats at all? Yeah I catch up I catch him. You can't win when you turn it over five turnovers. You can't do that. Jeez. You can't win like that. So you were a bona fide star when you got up brought into New England,
Starting point is 00:44:19 and they were just coming off of a Super Bowl. Was there any issues with jelling into the roster? You know what? I had, this is my brother too, man. Kevin Falk, bro. Hey, he's a legend. Man, this guy, his locker was right next to mine. And he used to say, man, bro, you're here for a real.
Starting point is 00:44:40 reason. You know what I mean? That made me feel comfortable. You know, like, you're here for a reason. You know what I mean? And there are some things I couldn't do. K. Falk was a monster. He was the Swiss Army knife. He could do it all. Like, my big ass ain't going out there running no routes like Kevin Falk. Yeah. Now ain't going to work. So I think me and him just talking and him letting to me know like bro do your thing you know this is this is a team nobody nobody's bigger than another guy and i and i really felt that coming in that building like man we're going to go out here and i never i never was a stat guy anyway i never really sat back and like oh i need a hundred yards this game i just go out there and play man you know what i mean and whatever happens at the
Starting point is 00:45:30 end of the game that's what it is but that guy was like yeah man you're here for a reason let's go out there and get it. And we compliment each other like good. Yeah. And it was one hell of a running back as well. He was. I played with him. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:47 He was older when I got there. He was older when I got there. Yeah. But he taught me how to catch puns. He was my punk guy because he was the hands guy. And then on top of that, like, he shared everything. Me and him chopped it up. We talked.
Starting point is 00:46:02 Yeah. You know what I mean? Play. Great teammate. Great. teammate he filled me in on things i needed to know yeah so yeah that's my bro man love k shout out k fall now take us through when you win a super bowl one year in oh wow it's like it worked yes patriot what yeah yeah and and it was listen i've been chasing that part of football
Starting point is 00:46:35 Since I was Pop Warner, man, I always get to the big games, maybe take a L, never won one, high school, you know, never getting to the state championship, you know, so I've been, that's been haunting me for the longest of actually getting into a championship game and actually winning one. I think, I think that that Super Bowl just to me, like kind of satisfied that child football player. and me, it was like, yeah, we finally got it. Heck yeah. I mean, nothing like it. Nothing like it. There is nothing like winning a chip, man. You know what?
Starting point is 00:47:14 I was like a deer in headlights, man. You sit there and you see that ball being kicked off and all those flashes going off at the same time. You can get overwhelmed. I was like, oh, shit, where am I? Yeah. Until I got hit. And then I came back to reality.
Starting point is 00:47:29 It was like, yeah, man, we're in a football game. And the Eagles at the time was pretty. pretty, they were pretty stout, man. That was a very good team we played and ended up edging them out by three. So good game. T.O. came out with a broken leg and got 1.30 on him or so. And we're still bawling. Still bawling.
Starting point is 00:47:48 I was like, he's not human. He's not. Who is this guy? But it's crazy because you were like the first star brought in to the Patriot Way. Yeah. Yeah. Do you think that it eventually? Yes, it did. It got them to get Randy Moss.
Starting point is 00:48:04 Yes. Yeah. So, hey, I never, it was never spoken, you know. And I didn't really, I didn't really think about that until well after I was done. But I truly believe, maybe I'm wrong. Bill or call me or shoot me a text if I'm off, if I'm off beat with this. But I think the way I conducted myself there kind of opened up the doors for the Randy Moss is another guy. I do too for sure and Bill used to reference you all the time yeah in a great way
Starting point is 00:48:39 I love Bill man Bill is I had a great respect for him man because you know what I think I understood him I got him you know what I mean like either you could do either you could do it or you can't and he's you know let me know yeah I think I'm kind of like that in my life too like can you can you do it or not so I I understood I understood them and then also I understood the assignment like I get you I'm not I'm here I'm here just personally like I'm gonna give you all I got you know I'm gonna go out there and and play my ass off don't worry about that part for me and I think that just kind of ties into everything he preaches and what he was about and we had it we had a we had a real good
Starting point is 00:49:29 good relationship yeah that's good to hear that yeah Well, let's go back into time. And this is a segment where you go over pop culture around when the game took place. This game took place October 22nd, 2000. Number one movie, Meet the Parents. Actually, really good movie. Shut out, Ben Stiller.
Starting point is 00:49:48 Oh, wow. Those are some funny. I'm old as hell. Number one's song, Come On Over Baby by Christine Aguilera. Oh, we remember that one. I don't remember that one. Come on over. Come on over, baby.
Starting point is 00:50:02 Pop culture, remember the Titans, that was a fucking one. Bring it on. Castaway, we're all in the boxed offices. Castaway. That's a good dog name, Wilson, because he was so best friends with the thing. With the volleyball? Yeah. It's a dog name.
Starting point is 00:50:17 It is. I remember going to, me and my parents took me. My parents on Thanksgiving, remember the Titans came out. Oh, yeah, man. We went out and watched it. You see, you're a full-grown man. I'm like a little kid. I watched that damn thing.
Starting point is 00:50:31 I started crying. and stuff. Strong side, left side. Peaty. Yeah. Super Bowl champions were the Ravens. That was an unbelievable defense. Marshall Falk was the MVP.
Starting point is 00:50:43 What another insane running better. Yes, indeed. Oklahoma took down the natty and Chris Winky, who was probably like 42, got out of the way. He was a bouncebacker. He'd been playing minor league ball
Starting point is 00:50:55 for a decade. Peer work was on that team that won the national championship with him. Yeah, good teammate am I? Yes. Legend. Real quick. Number 28.
Starting point is 00:51:02 Why is that the best number for a running back? I don't know. I just think it's the protocol number for, I didn't even pick it. It was just in the locker. Like, it found you. Yeah. This is what you're wearing.
Starting point is 00:51:13 Yeah. And I'm just like, I roll with it. I said, all right, cool. Yeah. Who other 28? Marshall Falk. Fred Taylor. Freddie T.
Starting point is 00:51:23 Yeah, man. A lot of us, man. Freddie T. And you guys, you were kind of similar because you guys were both big ass dudes. That's my guy, man. Adrian Peterson. work for a while ap yeah freddie t man same division man i mean if you if you can make if you can make a pro ball out of the division we played in fred t jerome bittas bro you really doing something
Starting point is 00:51:48 and then what's isn't who was the eddie george we it was or you guys are lewis who you guys went with the baltimore ravens were you in that division yes we played them twice a year yeah we seen who was there they had the guy who broke the record like jama louis Yeah, it was, that was running back you. That was. It was stacked, man. No, that was running back P. Professional.
Starting point is 00:52:10 Man. The universities, the kids. Man, that thing was, we're running backs. That's, it was so stacked up. Chris Johnson, we're 28. Curtis Martin. Speaking of my favorite, Martin. It's my favorite Martin.
Starting point is 00:52:23 Speaking of which, to Corey's point, 2000 was maybe the pinnacle of all running back seasons ever, a record 23 back. rush for over a thousand yards 23 backs it could be is it the greatest year for the running back you guys we ain't gonna see that now no definitely not now not not but half of these teams doing things by committee you will probably never see the likes of say kuan barkley again when he goes might a rare that bejean robinson's kind of oh he's bad boy oh he's like if they give that board of rock so I know but That's another thing goes to the point. The point, yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:53:05 They're not giving the rock like they did. Yeah. They used to feed you guys. Let me, all right, let me redefine what. If they ever get back to giving one guy like 25, 20 to 25, 30 carries a game, you'll see it. But that's going to be rare. It's going to be rare. So, yeah, I think we're in a last, into it comes back in style, hopefully.
Starting point is 00:53:29 where one running back can kind of control the show and then you know you have you have some pretty good other runners come in sparingly but that one guy you got to have a one guy there's got a big good complimentary that's why I liked Detroit now they got Gibbs and Montgomery and that's a bad tandem I like them those are some those are some good boys
Starting point is 00:53:52 and what he did against Baltimore the other day yo yeah man me like that's aFC north football i thought it's supposed to be tough in the yeah are they hurt though aren't they hurt in the middle of the i think they got hurt i think i think one of the backers yeah you got to be you got to be missing something to be giving that up yeah 150th you're probably on the ground yeah so did you play baseball yeah i did i play baseball i got drafted by the poddress that's what i mean yeah so 2000 corey dillon could have played in MLB, maybe?
Starting point is 00:54:28 Yeah, I just got scared, man. I got scared of getting stuck in the minor leagues, man. I was like, fuck that, man. Man, I could play third, second, center left. I was just, yeah, all over the place, man. I think baseball was my second love. Man, I played that faithfully, too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:46 Yeah, so just the thoughts of, like, you know what, this whole minor league thing compared to, like, dude you're you football ready getting go get and go kind of steered me down the football path you ever talked to brady
Starting point is 00:55:03 about him being drafted I never knew that he was a catcher what yeah I didn't know that Montreal Expos where Barry Bonds went
Starting point is 00:55:12 no way see their school their school had some from that area that school was like they had so they had Lynn Swan come from there Barry
Starting point is 00:55:21 yeah had some legends yeah I didn't know I didn't really know that part yeah no one really knows that I mean he's such the goat
Starting point is 00:55:31 you would you would know it would have been good too I anything that man puts his mind to I think he's gonna be y'all right so what was what was on the Cory Dylan pregame list Walkman oh man do you have tapes or CDs you ready for this face boost
Starting point is 00:55:48 both I think I graduated to the CDs by then, but, man, you know, I'm bumping a little bit of E40, C-Bold. Yeah, man, little MC8, Ice Q, you know. West Coast rap. All West Coast, man. Bay Rast-Manly, mainly Bay Area. Be legit and in the celly sales. Mac Mall.
Starting point is 00:56:14 MacDray. Hey, Dre Dog was his original name. Yeah, and he went to, yeah, yeah. And he got up in Kansas. Yeah, man. So that was my deal. I was a hyphy movement kid. I'm from the Bay.
Starting point is 00:56:27 Oh, man, you're jumping out of stop license. Goz-Ri-Go-Sk. Yeah, you go. Shaking him out of great. I knew I liked you. This is my guy. I knew it. I knew it was something about him.
Starting point is 00:56:38 You said he 40, man. I went to Kent State in 06, and my ghetto report card just came out. Oh, yeah, man. And I rocked that out there. People are looking, what the fuck is this music? Because everyone's from, like, Maryland. Yeah, man. We had a lunch of Florida kids.
Starting point is 00:56:54 D.C. Cats. Like, what is this shit? Because you couldn't hear music like nowadays. Right, right. Man, I grew up on like too short and all that, and the Richie Riches and all that. That's amazing. Yeah, man, that's always been a part of me.
Starting point is 00:57:07 I slap in a little, little base, something. Get my mind right and go out there and get down. Got to. Marshaun, shout out. There it is. Jackie, let's break down these teams. Let's get into these Broncos real quick. The 2000 Broncos won 11 and 5.
Starting point is 00:57:21 To put it into a little context, where two years removed, the second year of the post-Elway era, if you will. Six year of the Mike Shanahan era. Gary Kubiak was running that offense. I remember him down in Houston everywhere. Grand Robinson run the defense. Son's a coach.
Starting point is 00:57:34 Clint Kubiak is the O.C. He was Houston last year. Started off super hot. Now he's somewhere this year and they're doing pretty well. Offense of coordinator in Seattle. There you go. Yeah. I mean, heck of a coaching football family there.
Starting point is 00:57:48 Look at the, and then the Shanahan, you got his sons. It all. There's so many crosses over in the NFL. And then you got Terrell Davis, of course, speaking of great running back, saying banged up this year, only played five games. So that gave way to Mike Anderson,
Starting point is 00:58:04 who bawled the heck out this year, offensive rookie of the year. How good was Terrell Davis? Man. He was good, but that system was awesome. You got to talk about a zone blocking scheme. How many yards could you have got me if you play for the blockers? I'm going thriller.
Starting point is 00:58:21 around we this I mean I would have loved it shanhan so that was the running backs knew around the league if you were in a Shanahan scheme oh dude
Starting point is 00:58:33 that zone scheme they ran was beautiful I would I would I would ate all day yeah what made it so conducive to running backs well I mean dude it's just the way
Starting point is 00:58:44 they set that thing up man I mean everything would just float it was like like one step it was just all unity man that dude all he had to do is just touch the rock and make a decision and he had lanes for days bro it was just like it wasn't he he wasn't really back there stutter and and trying to find a hole
Starting point is 00:59:04 like no he's seen it yeah multiple options is just exploding upfield with the ball man that's that's all a running back really wants yeah yeah multiple options and one cut and getting up field with the ball i mean mike anderson went for four almost 1500 yards as a rookie 15 touchdowns Like, that's insane. Who's the other guy that came in after Mike Anderson? Porter's. Oh, yeah, Clinton, Port. That system was unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:59:28 We got about ACL, too, at the U. Yeah, man. How about that? When I was a kid. Man, he was a beast, bro. They had a real good system up there. Yeah. We got to talk about some of these other dudes on this team.
Starting point is 00:59:40 We got Ed McCaffrey, you got Rod Smith, Desmond Clark, I mean, Terrell Buckley, Bill Romanowski. Who, scary dude. Who, scary dude. Jason Eelham, great kicker. Great kicker? Well, let me just drop in some of these thousand yards Broncos running backs.
Starting point is 00:59:55 Orlando, Gary, Mike Anderson, Clinton Portis twice, Ruben Drones, Mike Anderson, Tatum Bell, Willis McGahey, Nosham-Merano, C.J. Anderson, all had 1,000 yards. Yeah, man. The Broncos. The system was nice. That was a good system.
Starting point is 01:00:07 Yes, it was. So what was this era of Broncos when you were playing? They were good, man. This is, that's a, they just wasn't good on that day against us, but overall, they were good, man. Dude, there were number two in Rush. Yeah. They had a stout defense, man.
Starting point is 01:00:24 That was just like, I don't know, like I said, it wasn't a fluke, but I just think we were just, our grind was a little bit different than there. We were fighting just to win our first game. And then overall consensus on Cincinnati is we kind of took that personal teams coming in overlooking us like, it's going to be easy. Yeah. We took pride in going out there and putting a fight to some of these teams. So we caught them.
Starting point is 01:00:54 Yeah. We caught them. Jack, let's get in. Should we get into these Bengals real quick? Yeah, let's get in the Bengals. Tough start. Start out 0 and 6, as we mentioned earlier. Ended the season 4 and 12.
Starting point is 01:01:05 Had a coaching change in there. Week 4, Bruce Costlet replaced by Dick Lobo. You guys remember Dick Leboe from Pittsburgh. We're in their defense for over 10 years over there. Two Super Bowls. Two Super Bowls, heck of a career. notable rookies. We mentioned Peter Warwick earlier. Electric FSU
Starting point is 01:01:21 legend. Neil Rackers, good kicker. Good play in this game. And this was the first year of the primarily Achilles Smith starting year. Came in for Jeff Blake the year before that. Primarily, right, I think. So that was a big change in the offense and
Starting point is 01:01:37 mentioned it also a little bit earlier. First year at the new Paul Brown Stadium. New Paul Brown Stadium. All right. So break down this Bengals era. Yeah. we were struggling buddy without a doubt you can see that record
Starting point is 01:01:54 but you know what I wouldn't trade those times for nothing man I played with some real good players and when times are rough you can gauge somebody not nobody on that roster
Starting point is 01:02:10 you know gave up and tanked we all every game we went out there and we believe like yeah we're going to win the game so shots out to them bangles teams I played on in the players man and that's something I cherish to this day man when I when I see some of my fellow teammates from Cincinnati man yeah we fought bro yeah we fought what's it like going through a coaching change man it's mid-season it's tough it's tough I mean how much how much can anything really change it's probably the same thing isn't it's the same thing isn't it's the same
Starting point is 01:02:47 thing because you know what they're not going to change the offense yeah in the middle of the season it's impossible i mean and look like you know Achille was rookie coming in that that offense ain't going to change as much i think the emphasis on that year was hell we got to run the ball more i smiled like yeah give me the rock sweet good let's get it hell yeah let's go so yeah it was it was tough on everybody, man. Losing like year after year, man, that's wearing. Yeah. It's wearing and it sucks.
Starting point is 01:03:23 So, and everybody knows, like, winning cures a lot of stuff. A lot of things. So, yeah, we went through some tough times, but the bond between us on them teams, them players, hey man, dude, I never forget that. We brothers for life, man.
Starting point is 01:03:40 We went through, we fought some real tough wars. Who are some of your guys? Adrian, Raw. Nick Williams, I mean, Peter, Chad, T.J. Husmazada, Achille, you know what I mean? TJ played there a long time. Yeah, man. Tekeo Spikes. Tekeo is a monster. Brian Simmons, Artrelle Hawkins.
Starting point is 01:04:01 Yeah, these are my guys, man. All of them. I mean, and we can sit, we old as hell now. We can sit back and laugh about some of this stuff. But, man, we fought hard. We'll be right back after this quick break. Hi there. This is Josh Clark from the Stuff You Should Know podcast. In early 1988, federal agents race to track down the gang they suspect of importing millions of dollars' worth of heroin into New York from Asia. We had 30 agents ready to go with shotguns and rifles and you name it. But what they find is not what they expected. Basically, your stay-at-home moms were picking up these large amounts of heroin. They go, is this your daughter? I said yes.

This season on Revisionous History, we're going back to the spring of 1988 to a town in northwest Alabama, where a man committed a crime that would spiral out of control. 35 years. That's how long Elizabeth's and its family waited for justice to occur. 35 long years. I want to figure out why this case went on for as long as it did.
Starting point is 01:07:11 why it took so many bizarre and unsettling turns along the way and why, despite our best efforts to resolve suffering, we all too often make suffering worse. He would say to himself, turn to the right, to the victim's family, and apologize, turn to the left, tell my family I love him. So he would have this little practice, to the right, I'm sorry, to the left, I love you. From Revisionous History, this is The Alabama Murders. Starting point is 01:07:39 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What was a young Chad Johnson like? You guys ready for this? Lay it on. Oh, yes. Believe it or not, Chad was quiet, man. He was so quiet. Couldn't get that guy to say nothing for the first two years.
Starting point is 01:07:59 Wow. We're talking about the same Chad Johnson? Oh, yeah. That guy. Not Jack. McDonald's and Quiet. Wow. That should be his memoir title.
Starting point is 01:08:08 Yeah, man. He was, he was. He was so quiet. Like, I'd be like, what's up, Chad? He'd just be like, hmm, what's up, man? Nothing like the Chad we see now. I love that guy, man. What did that shift?
Starting point is 01:08:19 I play with Chad when he was older. Yeah, I don't, I don't know. I think he came into his own. Twitter. Seriously, no, because he was like the first dude with like a million followers as an NFL guy. Maybe he caught it before everybody else caught it. I mean, like, I don't know. I remember young Chad, man.
Starting point is 01:08:39 he was very quiet. Yeah. Yeah. So now you look at him, man. He's doing his thing, man. He's killing him. Yeah, much love to Chad, man. Good dude.
Starting point is 01:08:48 He's hilarious. How much was Tikeo Spikes a friggin' monster? Man, that boy neck is like way out. Yeah, man. You ever have to go nine on seven against him? Yeah, all the time. It's like he was fast, strong, and played the game with just like you're supposed to play.
Starting point is 01:09:09 So, yeah, man. So our little seven-on-sevons and running R-Bs against the line, it was epic. Yeah. Absolutely. And, you know, slapping me out there, they always trying to get one up on me. So it was always a war. So good wars, too. So, yeah, that guy, one hell of a linebacker.
Starting point is 01:09:31 He was. How was Cincinnati as a sports town? They love their sports. They love their sports. They love their sports, man. Whether it's the Reds or the Bengals, everybody's invested. So, you know what?
Starting point is 01:09:47 I know we put them through some bad times, but they kept coming, man. That's a sports town. Skyline or Gold Star? Oh, shit, I'm going Skyline. Skyline. I was a Gold Star guy. I was a Northeast Ohio kid.
Starting point is 01:10:02 I went to school up there. I thought, honestly, both the chilies taste a little weird. to me. Get ready later on that night. Be prepared. I'll tell you that, but yeah. Be prepared. Jackie, jump into the game. Let's get in this quick little
Starting point is 01:10:21 lead up here. Denver, the big storyline. Terrell Davis was banged up. This was a Mike Anderson era. They dropped a couple close ones early. Lost to Kansas City, lost to the Pats. And then over on the Cincinnati side, struggling a little bit. We talked about Achilles Smith's first year at the helm.
Starting point is 01:10:37 Honestly, just looking for a win in this New stadium, this new millennium, Denver entered 4 and 3 with the league's second best rushed events. I believe they're averaging 61.1 yards a game allowed, which is pretty darn incredible, pretty stout. Cincinnati, on the other hand, 0 and 6, and then looking for a first win at their new home. And in this new millennium, brings us to week 8. So what was the game plan to get your first win in the new stadium? Man. Give you the rock. let's just go out there and play hard yeah you know i think the consensus in the in the locker room was
Starting point is 01:11:14 yeah we're all in six bro let's do something about it you know and and and we kind of felt like you know what they're coming in on that high horse too they think it's going to be easy and our thing was let's not make it easy for them let's not make it easy for them and i think we as as a as a team that was that was our focus we're not we're going to it's not going to be easy for him and i mean you guys go through a quarterback change right but the one constant was that you were running the rock when did you feel that there was going to be a special day man i think i broke one off for like 60 and i was like oh yeah this is it's time it's time this time we're eating Yeah, we're eating today.
Starting point is 01:12:04 And you know what? I think that put us up. I'm not for sure. But the score was close. We're like neck and neck. And I'm like, yeah, we got this. We got this. So as the game went on, I just felt stronger.
Starting point is 01:12:21 You know, so kudos to that offensive line, Big Willie and the crew, man. They blocked their ass off that game, man. Yeah. They created some massive holes for me. made it super easy. All I had to do was just, you know,
Starting point is 01:12:36 but I make one cut, and I was out. Wow, Big Willie. Shout out. Speaking of the big boys on the line, I know quarterbacks to it, but did you guys ever hook him up with any sick gifts? Oh, man, you know,
Starting point is 01:12:48 I bought watches for the fellas. I mean, you know, I got paid one day. Got to look out for the guy. And they looked at me like, yeah, you got that check. What's coming? Absolutely.
Starting point is 01:13:02 Got to. Yeah, you got to. Broleys. Yeah. Something light, some light. You got to keep them invested, man, absolutely. So what were they doing trying to slow you down? You know what?
Starting point is 01:13:12 To be honest with you, that team was like from sideline to sideline, they were fast-flowing. And I kind of picked up on this early. Like, if we could get them going in one direction and make a cut, the floodgates is open. I think there was one play where, and you could see it like Peter Ward on a reverse. We got going one way And he reversed it back to the left And went for 80 Yeah
Starting point is 01:13:38 To the crib To the crib To the crib And I was just looking like Yeah they're over pursuing like Like crazy So let me start setting them up Just getting you know
Starting point is 01:13:48 Getting going one way And then looking for that backside cut And sure enough man There was no backside cut off Yeah It was wide open Why open Someone's getting yelled at next week
Starting point is 01:14:00 So my baby fired demoted some yeah that was late in the second quarter that was a good momentum going into the half a jason illam missed field goal keeps it a one score game 14 10 at the half you guys are excited at halftime because you guys were pumped we're in it lot yeah corny already broken off some big runs you got a 31 yard piece 21 yard I mean brain and bent it everybody's getting involved everybody's eating and we're thinking like yeah what we said earlier we're not making it easy for him we can win this game yeah and so already had 161 rushing yards at the half since he did 161 crazy then you have a crazy last five minutes where you you i think you go 40 60 and the like
Starting point is 01:14:41 the four minute offense situation you break that long run and you go and you score right take us through that play beat for beat dude honestly man i'm just trying to stay in bounds and preserve the game yeah I had no clue on where I was, yardage-wise, at none. My mindset was like, whatever you do, do not step out of bounds, keep that clock running, and ice the game. And it was like a zone run to the right. And, man, and they, like I said, they over-pursued. And by time I touched the ball, there was somebody already in the backfield. So, yeah, so I cut back to the left.
Starting point is 01:15:23 And the only guy out there really was, I think it was Terrell Buckley. He was, he was the last man left. And I kind of, I kind of set him up, jukeed him, got around them. And I'm cautious of looking at that sideline. I was, I was very close out on the sideline. I'm just like, just stay in bounds. And once I got past him and stumbled in the end zone, I'm like, yeah, game done. Game is done.
Starting point is 01:15:51 That's it. Game time. So, and then coming off, you know, we're pre-celebrating a little bit. And I'm just happy, like, you know what, we actually, we iced the game. That's our first win. But walking off to the sideline, I'm looking up at the scoreboard and see, we, we, the record, I'm like, no way, dude, are you kidding me? No, we just didn't break a record.
Starting point is 01:16:15 So, overwhelmed. most of all delighted we're getting the dub our first dub but dang man that was that was unbelievable and to me it didn't even feel like i ran for that many yards to be honest with you i think i was just more focus on trying to get the w than anything yeah yeah good things happen when you you focus on that amen i mean just got to give corey some flowers here for this incredible performance in the third quarter 37 yard rush a 30 yard run A 14-yard run. Then we bring it to the fourth quarter, like we just kind of walked through there.
Starting point is 01:16:54 A 65 piece to make it 24-14. You got the announcer saying this is the knockout blow. Then, Corey's like, no, I'm not done. I got another one left in me. Once Denver scores, cuts it to 24-21, a 41-yarder to seal it and break the record. Unbelievable. Unreal. And then you get, you get, you get drenched.
Starting point is 01:17:12 You get the gags, the water. We got a top on you a couple of times. Take that damn Scott Mitchell. Yeah, man, I'm over there being, you know, I'm in my feelings a little bit. I'm like, I'm overwhelmed. I'm like, damn, I just broke a record. And then I'm getting a Gatorade shower. I'm like, man, who did that?
Starting point is 01:17:32 Like three? Yeah. And looking back on and seeing the film, I'm like, Scott Mitchell. Fucking Scott had to get his money's worth after just going in there and going 0 for 5 and just handing it off. The only thing he was throwing that thing was the water. You know the craziest thing out of this whole equation. And I think we only pass for like, what, 14 yards?
Starting point is 01:17:51 Exactly. You're on the money. Two completion. And they're both in the first half from McKele. First drive. Who wins a game like that? Corey Dillon. And the Cincinnati Bengals.
Starting point is 01:17:59 In the Cincinnati Bengals's offensive line. There you go. But like that brings my next point. I was going to ask you, Corey, like, what do you do when everyone in the stadium, the offense, the defense, anyone, they know, all right, here's where the Rock's going. I faced that all my career there. It was the norm. It was normal for me. Just another day at the office.
Starting point is 01:18:17 And the thing our offensive line coaches to preach, Paul used to say, man, Corey, there's one guy left for you. You got to make a miss. You know what I mean? We got everybody else. That last, Paul Alexander, that last guy is yours. Do you? And, yeah, there's eight, nine men in the box constantly.
Starting point is 01:18:41 That was, that was, that's the norm for me. So I'd never, I never looked at it as anything different. So every game I knew what I was facing and got after it. So you beat Sweetness's record, Walter Payton. Did he call you? I think I think Walt passed the year past the year before. Yeah, that's, and that most, why I was that, that's what I was thinking about like, no way, man. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:06 There's some things not meant to be touched. And I'm thinking like, why am I crazy ass? Why am I here in this position eclipsing now? one of the best all-time performances you know what I mean so because you're one of the best all-time performers my friend I guess so that's right man so what happens when you break a record like this like are you just people reach out to you are any purse that comes with it man a lot of people reached out man but man it was funny they they had people from like the hall of fame on deck like my jersey and shoes were gone yeah like like that I'm like where where these people come from
Starting point is 01:19:44 You know, I'm like, you know, I wanted to keep the stuff But they were there instantly Grab the jersey Grab the shoes and we're off So yeah, this is This is probably one of my best Best performance Period
Starting point is 01:20:01 As a professional I mean, it was a damn good one You set a record Yeah, yeah Jesus And you also had the rookie single game That orler game was pretty dope too But this game
Starting point is 01:20:14 I kind of like He was in his own I was in that zone Who's the coolest person That reached out afterwards Let me see Man That was so long ago man
Starting point is 01:20:25 I can't I can't really pinpointing man But I got a lot of I got a lot of People reaching out And giving me props man And What was homeboy on sports center
Starting point is 01:20:38 Tom Scott Tom Jackson? Tom Jackson Yeah That man That man came down and interview me and we went on over this whole thing of running backs and I gave him a whole spill about Tony Dorsan and Eric Dickerson and Walt and Jim and he kind of and
Starting point is 01:20:56 Tom was a pretty damn good player himself and he just looked at me and was like yeah yeah you know what you're talking about you know what I mean so I thought that was I thought that was pretty cool and something I never forget man this is that game itself Now, you guys, every blue moon, I go back and peep it. I go back and check it out. It's a work of art. I go back and check it out. And I go back and check it out.
Starting point is 01:21:22 She got to show your daughters. Hey, dad was cool. Dad just wasn't full of shit. Your dad was actually a good player. You know, I go back and look at the game and I was like, to this day. And I'm like, ooh, still give me chills. Like, damn, I was doing it. He were, sir.
Starting point is 01:21:41 Jackie put a bow on this. And it's great. or something else. Corey, we talked about it. You set the NFL single game rushing record, a record that it's held for 25 years, sweetness RIP. Cincinnati rushed for a team high, 407 yards. You got Warwick and Bennett chipping in there with some big ones. Cincinnati would miss the playoffs finish in 4 and 12. Denver would make the playoffs with 11 and 5 record, fall to Baltimore in the wildcard round 21 to 3. That single game record would stand until 2003 when another
Starting point is 01:22:12 aFC north foe Jamal Lewis would break it going 295 yards that would then get broken by Adrian Peterson against LT and the Chargers and then
Starting point is 01:22:24 Did you talk with Jamal Lewis after after he broke it or you're still playing he's a division guy yeah we chopped it up I said good job man I mean honestly like
Starting point is 01:22:33 the way I think about it man records are meant to be broken somebody's gonna come along and just look at that I think that was not not so far after Adrian Peterson came along and did his thing. So, yeah, man, all records are meant to be broken.
Starting point is 01:22:51 Just going to take that special guy to come along and do it. And that was in 2009 with 296 yards. And we talked about it a little bit earlier, but no four. Corey would join our New England Patriots and win a Super Bowl, beaten Philadelphia 24 to 21, man. That's pretty darn cool.
Starting point is 01:23:09 Yeah. Now let's name the game. These are some names that we came up with. If you have a name that you call it by, we can go by that. Okay. We have the 278 game, the rushing record game, the record breaker, or the upset in the jungle. I'm going to rock with the upset in the jungle. I like that.
Starting point is 01:23:31 Team guy. I like it. I like it. Score the game. Is this the greatest game of all time? Let's score it. Decimals encouraged. stakes
Starting point is 01:23:42 0 to 10 decimals encouraged the stakes of this game oh man the stakes man we're going on 7 if we don't go
Starting point is 01:23:52 up there we don't get it done and that's evident on our mind is like yeah let's show up and play ball man so zero to 10 you got to grade it
Starting point is 01:24:05 but I give it I give it zero to 10 nine nine I mean it's a high state game for him high stakes gotta get a win come on high stakes regular I mean I just gotta let you know
Starting point is 01:24:18 we've done Super Bowls people trying to repeat on Super Bowls people trying to three peat in Super Bowls girls taking their shirts off after winning the World Cup's geopolitically Miracracracris I gotta go with the five core
Starting point is 01:24:34 I'm sorry oh man it's a regular season game I went 4.3 I did 3.1 regular season game now we got to grade the star power the star power of this game who was in the stadium you know new stadium coaches players
Starting point is 01:24:49 Hall of Famers Star powers 0 to 10 decimals encouraged Ah man I'm gonna go I'm gonna go 7 I'm gonna go like a 7 8 7.8 because I mean
Starting point is 01:25:02 in in the bodies of some of those coaches are even potentially other Hall of Fame coaches Dick LaBow I mean Bow's good The coaches
Starting point is 01:25:13 It's a big coach thing There's a Cory Dillon I did 6.5 And you're doing a lot of the heavy lifting The gameplay of the game Back and forth
Starting point is 01:25:21 A lot of rushing Two passes Completed on the offense For the Cincinnati Bengals Yeah But the game play The game zero to 10 decimals Encourge
Starting point is 01:25:30 I'm going nine I did my thing He sure did He did Right 14 yards passing Somebody's got somebody had to do something right go with the eight flat there you go i rock with that that's i mean it's in the seven one i did six point five two completions it's tough yeah that's tough i think the
Starting point is 01:25:50 most impressive i was there i know you know maybe maybe the craziest part of this is this this scott mitchell contributed to the rushing record there of the uh team he had eight yards oh yeah how did my man scott he was the most bubble guy of all time yeah on a bootleg he is down for a 407, Scott said, I got eight of those for you. Thanks, Scott. For contributing. I appreciate it. Now we got to grade the name of the game, the upset in the jungle.
Starting point is 01:26:17 Ah, man, I'm going to go. I'm going to get out of 10 because, you know what? We're going on six, man. And that was a first win in the jungle. And that team was not a slouch. That was a pretty best defense. Yeah, that was a pretty good team. And it's also like the significance of this game long term.
Starting point is 01:26:36 And like a major record was broken. right that part of it yeah it was midseason like a major record got broken you get your first win you guys celebrate this for any differently midseason anything go out do anything man i went home and went to sleep i was tired i feel that i was tired good day i was tired i'm gonna go at the eight there we go with a seven point oh i did eight point one all right all right where is it what is the total it is a seven point oh one that's going to put us down at our new 77th game
Starting point is 01:27:12 it's just behind the 2006 NFC wildcar game Cowboys versus Seahawks and just ahead of Vikings versus Bucks week 9 1998 remember that game okay who's that game with that was Lorenzo Neal wasn't it that was that was Lorenzo Neal
Starting point is 01:27:28 the low man's wins game where they had another richly you're in good company there yeah man I can rock with that yeah it's a good spot it's a great spot if you look at like our like this is the top of these These are all games we've covered. Hmm, Falcons Patriots. There's a lot of Patriots in the top 10.
Starting point is 01:27:46 Interesting. No bias. Zero bias. I mean, look at the top three. Oh, no, man. That was one hell of a catch. Man, I love this dude, man. That was wow.
Starting point is 01:27:55 That was wild. That was, I never seen nothing like that, man. That was stupid route. Greatest comeback I ever. Man, dude. Bad boy here, man. Julian, yeah. no we you know what it's cori we miss anything with this game no i think we summed it up man we covered
Starting point is 01:28:14 everything that was so but you know this is our real first time getting to really meet right it's been such an honor because you were when i was a kid you were like the running back of the running backs in the league and then i got to play under the organization that you know you want a super bowl in And you were always a focal point in teaching lessons of what I heard for my 12 years of being in New England. Starting point is 01:31:23 they suspect of importing millions of dollars worth of heroin into New York from Asia. We had 30 agents ready to go with shotguns and rifles and you name it. But what they find is not what they expected. Basically, your stay-at-home moms were picking up these large amounts of heroin. They go, is this your daughter? I said yes. They go, oh, you may not see her for like 25 years. Caught between a federal investigation and the violent gang who recruited them,

Starting point is 01:32:18 This season on Revisionous History, we're going back to the spring of 1988 to a town in northwest Alabama. where a man committed a crime that would spiral out of control. 35 years. That's how long Elizabeth's and its family waited for justice to occur. 35 long years. I want to figure out why this case went on for as long as it did, why it took so many bizarre and unsettling turns along the way,
Starting point is 01:32:48 and why, despite our best efforts to resolve suffering, we all too often make suffering worse. He would say to himself, turn to the right to the victim's family and apologize, turn to the left, tell my family I love him. Starting point is 01:33:17 Man, legend, legend, Corey Fogg. I wanted to talk to him, but he seems like a great teammate, all that shit. in Cincinnati. Media horse shit. Media horse balls. He just wanted the fucking win. He was a stud. He's an all-pro guy. Now we don't know when he was. Put Corey in. Corey fucking Dillon back in the day. He could have been a little different, but he seems like a great-hearted dude. He's so cool. He's a man. What a guy. I never met him. Really.
Starting point is 01:33:43 No, it was very cool to see a bridging of the eras there between you guys. That was really nice. For life, we said. Amen. All I could think of me and I love you. I said, I love you too. Oh, fuck. I wouldn't get on that. I love you too. When you're next back, you got to play golf with them. I know.
Starting point is 01:33:56 Maybe a foursome? Let's get out there, El Cap. Definitely. Some light. The one thing I wanted that, I didn't. My favorite thing growing up was the four-minute offense in Madden, just running the ball with Corey Dillon. Cory Dillon. Burning the clock.
Starting point is 01:34:10 Hearding Clock. Eating clock. It's just edged, etched in my head. The best. Corey Dillon. I've heard that a few times. Oh, my gosh. He had some stories to say afterwards.
Starting point is 01:34:22 He did. But I respect him. He's a good, he's a, that's a good teammate. Amen. He's not just going to jump on. The way it's still the red light is off. Says what he's got to say. Red light's, we're still rolling. But we're not going to do that. Oh. It's not a chill,
Starting point is 01:34:36 Tyler. You need to chill. And that means it's time for chill zone brought to you by Coors Light. Get Coors Light delivered straight to your door. Visit Coorslight.com slash GwN and celebrate responsibly. Let's go, boys.
Starting point is 01:34:52 what are we doing jack we got something new for you today this is going to get me hyped up oh it's going to get me hyped up you ready jules guy guy you ready today we are talking sports bucket lists we're going to go around be a little three four not stringent not too rigid events games places on a sports bucket list that we got to attend it is before we kick the bucket we just got to do it It's number one on our list of things we got to hit in the sporting world. Events, big games.
Starting point is 01:35:29 So, I'm going to start off this whole segment, wildly offended. Where's Stanley Cup on this list so far? This is a grab bag of things to pick from. Yeah, but there's no Stanley Cup in here. Winter Olympics. You just jot your memory. Winter Olympics is not the Frozen 4. This is just jot.
Starting point is 01:35:45 They got the naty, fatty. You don't even need it, though. You already had it top of mind. I know, but you had NBA finals. All right, all right. I'm already starting off offended. Man, man. I thought this was going to be fun.
Starting point is 01:35:53 Okay, I'm sorry. We can make it fun. There is. Okay, now I'm not. These are events in the sporting world. You got to see before you kick the bucket. Two, three, four, however many you got. Let's go around, turn by turn, break them down, have a little discussion.
Starting point is 01:36:06 Let's get into it. Jules. Jack, why don't you start? Jack, why don't you start? I'm going to Wimbledon. I want to go to freaking Wimbledon in July. I want to wear the white. I want to sit in the player's box over there.
Starting point is 01:36:17 I want to go back and forth. I want to look fly. I want to see David Beckham. I want some strawberries and cream I want to go to Wimbledon Can I say one thing about Limbledon that could be better? It always makes me sad at the end of the tournament Like in the final
Starting point is 01:36:30 Is it snake draft? I don't get to pick Wimbledon Yeah you can pick Wimbledon I'm just doing for record keeping purposes The grass always gets beaten up towards the end I wish there was a way where the grass Could still look pristine all the way through Nah wearing terror the longer the shittier it looks The longer you're going
Starting point is 01:36:42 It looks like it looks like goalie's like playing the Super Bowl At the Coliseum with a baseball diamond In the middle It's got a touch of that to me only only you want to hear some real blasts yeah field turf field turf just dude how many the rubber pellets is everywhere oh my god that'd be the worst sick I would be sick now you've been to a few of these I think it's like a lot of them yeah I've been to world series NBA's finals US Open for tennis played at augusta uh been to Super Bowl
Starting point is 01:37:20 been to a bowl game been to a final four game been to the I've been to the Daytona 500 the Kentucky Derby Stanley Cup never been yeah so
Starting point is 01:37:40 I would say for me my number one is Wimbledon's in mine I never been to Wimbledon so Wimbledon's one of mine but my number one is probably probably a Rose Bowl. Oh, yeah. A Rose Bowl National Championship.
Starting point is 01:37:55 I want to the Rose Bowl for the first time for the flea market. It was spectacular. Wait, no, hold on. We got to go. I want to go so bad. Now, the Rose Bowl National Championship doesn't exist anymore. Well, doesn't, don't they get to do that somehow? They do the National Championship game from the Rose Bowl venue, but is no longer the game.
Starting point is 01:38:10 I want the National Championship at the Rose Bowl. National Championship of the Rose Bowl. Okay. They're going to playoff game there. They have playoff games there. But traditionally, as of the new format, The championship is always at, like, a big dome somewhere. So, like, a national championship at the Rose Bowl would be U.S.
Starting point is 01:38:26 That's my bucket list. Yeah. National championship at the Rose Bowl. Like, which teams? Doesn't matter. You don't care. Me too. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:38:34 I'm going to say. You know, when it goes from, like, four o'clock, and it's late, and then it turns into a night game late, it's like twilight. Oh, my God. So cool. I just want to go, I just want to go see the Rose Bowl. Yeah. Like, I just want to see it.
Starting point is 01:38:50 I don't care if there's a gamer. I just want to go it. I need baby steps here. I do want to see a game there, though, of course. Let's go to one this year. I want to run with the Bulls, too. Put that in mind. Yep.
Starting point is 01:38:58 I like it. Cool. That would be tight. I've never done that. You're not on a balcony. You're talking down there, all white, little red handkerchief. I don't know. You run?
Starting point is 01:39:06 It's not about, for me, it's about the people around. For sure. You know, you got to make sure you got to get out of the way of those. Little red wine, little meats, some chakoterie. Definitely running. with the Bulls. I would like to go to a game seven Stanley Cup final with the Penguins at home. That would be.
Starting point is 01:39:25 Game set. Okay. I like that. Specificity. I'm going to go. I like this. See, because like last year I did game five NBA finals.
Starting point is 01:39:33 You saw a clinching game. So I did see one. Actually, you know what? I take the back. I would like to see a penguins clinching Stanley Cup final. Okay. Game seven penguins clincher.
Starting point is 01:39:42 Yeah. Stanley Cup. I like that. I like that. A vendor of Patriot Super Bowl, which was cool. See, it's boring.
Starting point is 01:39:49 and it ain't sexy because you guys have already done it time and time again but like as a ball I've never been to a Super Bowl I gotta go I gotta put it on there when's all you need
Starting point is 01:39:59 I know as a fan it's just too much of the hubbub and the it's a week long New Year's Eve party I've been to like FOMO personified the whole thing
Starting point is 01:40:08 I've been to the weeks of it which I guess is gradually I'm getting there my last one's either Wimbledon or Masters with Tiger plane You can do more you can do more than three
Starting point is 01:40:18 I just put three up here to get us going. Masters is up there for me, too. I want, I, I, I'm not trying to flex for anything, but I did play, I guess, once. Yeah. Fucking tight. But I didn't get to, like, have, like, I guess, like, the dog, like, the hot dogs and stuff for all, like, a buck 50.
Starting point is 01:40:34 Pemto sandwich. Yeah. Oh, I never got any of that stuff. It was, you know what I mean? So I didn't get to experience it. Mm. I would eat, with Tiger playing. Sunday with Tiger and Red.
Starting point is 01:40:46 No, it has to be Tiger competing. on Sunday in the hunt yeah red shirt where we're going imagine that's a good one imagine that tiger in the hunt Sunday on Sunday yeah I've I'm gonna add one I've been Wimbledon will be cool too though
Starting point is 01:41:03 but there's also like I was thinking Kentucky Derby sorry I'm cutting you on no that this is you did Kentucky Derby that's fine I've done the Kentucky Derby but I've never like I was invited to the England's Kentucky Derby what is that there's something like that I should know this. But it's supposed to be like, yeah, super swanky.
Starting point is 01:41:23 You know what I mean? Like you think Kentucky Derby swanky there. It's like Royal Swanky. Compared to Louisville to Oxford. Yeah, you know what I mean? The real ascot. Yeah. You have to wear an askot.
Starting point is 01:41:34 Ryan Clark loves it, bro. He loves it over there. He's an ascot guy, isn't he? No, no, no, no. Charles Woodson. Sorry. Charles Woodson. He's like, I haven't seen.
Starting point is 01:41:40 Hey, I tell you, you want to know how I know me and Charles are bonding on our show. Charles didn't wear a tie he didn't wear a tie for the first time yeah is he that's trickling into the main show yeah taking notes baby he's hung up the ascot hadn't he me and charles i've seen him in an ass cut but as he weren't it lately just me and charles connecting i don't know okay his son just had a fucking he took a kickoff he sent me this video of his son taking a house house call on a kickoff it looked just like charles out there is he in high school in college high school in orlando he got the same body language and shit have him send us that footage for the next T-Mobile segment
Starting point is 01:42:17 for dudes. Yeah, we'll break him down. We'll have you and Rob react to it. Wait, what? The high school footage. Oh, we should definitely. We'll talk after. I'll, I'll DM him. I'll do all day is DM. Oh, I thought you said for the day on a watch list somewhere. I thought you said, did you just say for the next T-bo event? No, T-Mobile when you review high school footage. I thought T-vo and I was instantly
Starting point is 01:42:35 thinking like, you want to circumcise this kid? What are we doing, bro? Oh, my God. You can't talk about black dudes' dick. Oh, my God. Let me see that. Let me see that's steady hand how steady is it doing bro oh my god i would like that's where i would like to see america versus the u uh canada for the gold medal game would be fun in hockey winter olympics winter olympics winter olympics yeah winter olympics yeah the frozen four is cute or i mean the uh the frozen four no no the uh final four what's the winter game now
Starting point is 01:43:08 oh the tournament four nations that's nothing that yeah but that ain't the olympics yeah yeah that ain't the olympics no gold middle game, U.S. versus America? Do we have an opportunity this year? I don't know. Well, the Winter Olympics aren't for... Where's it at? I don't even know.
Starting point is 01:43:23 Where's the next Winter Olympics? I like the Winter Olympics, too. Milan? Milan, 2006. Is this snow in Milan, Italy? Yeah, in the mountains. Oh, so it's coming up. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:43:34 So then they'll probably have all their mountains. Like the Swiss Alps. That'd be nice. That'd be cool. That'd be fucking funny. I got to go one more. Ooh, this is tough, brother. masters is up there in general i gotta say maybe world cup maybe world cup i may or may not have
Starting point is 01:43:54 been sharing a lovely meal with a with a babe the other week bottle of red all that stuff i might have been cash and checks my ass can't write it's like i get world cup tickets easy we're talking world cup like i get those easy might be cash and checks my ass can't right like pro bono game time yeah it's here in soon right yeah we're talking i was like i can get those Charlotte. Any near Charlotte? No. What is it here? Jet? No. 28. Atlanta, maybe. So that's three more years. Yeah. Yeah. Right. It's the same year as the Olympics.
Starting point is 01:44:25 Are they going to have the subway thing done here? Probably for it. Yeah, I think they're trying to do that for the Olympics. That's what I mean. Yeah. No, World Cup's coming up. That's how I always think. World Cup earlier. I see him again over the one in the mid-city's looking like it's finished in July. Oh, no, it's 26. It's 2026. No shot. It's this summer. No shot. Don't hold your. breath. Yeah, I'm over here.
Starting point is 01:44:47 Oh, my God. Don't hold your breath. So you're saying World Cup World Cup final. Preference. They caught that. Yeah. Perfectly the final. Preference on the team. Is that not freak you guys out that they're putting a subway under L.A., which isn't a fucking. I met a guy. It'll never have. I met a guy. It was on the like, I'm so terrible. Like, I was sitting here like, I drove because we drive that route when I take little soccer. And every time I think about like, hmm, don't know if I want to go
Starting point is 01:45:11 on that thing. Do you often spend time in public transportation? subway. I use a subway in New York all the time. You have to, yeah. But think about it. If you have that subway thing, I think it goes all the way to mid-town so you can get to like the flea market a lot quicker. And it's going all the way into the beach too. Yeah. Yeah, it's going to take a while. I mean, you're not going to not try it. Was it the purple line, right? The only time I've ever seen. You get to see the first three years, it'll be clean and good. There's some kind of train in L.A., right? Yeah, there's a commuter. There's a lot of it. The only time I ever seen it was in collateral.
Starting point is 01:45:45 Yeah, Tom Cruise, remember that? I don't, but I kind of see that. Shout out the scene. You know the scene. I don't know the scene. John Fox. Michael, man. Oh, what a movie.
Starting point is 01:45:55 Jack, do you have a preference on teams? Oh, man. I would like to see, ah, U.S., but I know it ain't going to happen. Yeah. U.S. in the World Cup final to take the win. In America, in America, it would be pretty sweet.
Starting point is 01:46:06 Never happened. I would be just brimming with national. What's your last one? Masters or World Cup, one of the two. No, I'll lay World Cup, I guess. So I guess I'll go World Cup. World Cup because you're taking your baby. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:46:18 I'm cashing that check, making it happen. Speaking it into existence. I'm split between two. Jimmy manifests his shit. Why not? Manifestation all 2025, fall 2025. We are manifesting. Manifestation.
Starting point is 01:46:33 There it is. Mark my words. I'll see you guys there. And my last one, I'm split between two. Okay. I'm still between a national championship with Virginia Tech, which is as unlikely as America being in the World Cup. And also, yeah, and also tour de France.
Starting point is 01:46:48 Now, I have done a tour de France before. But like how fun is the tour to France going to be? It's incredible, bro. You have no idea. You have no idea. It's amazing. And we're going to get baguette. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:46:59 It's great. You can watch a bike go by for 10 seconds. You don't know a ball with cycling because you go on a mountain stage, right? So it's uphill. You hike up there all day early. You ain't hiking, though. I'm saying to watch this event. You aren't hiking anything.
Starting point is 01:47:14 You're sitting there like this. No, no, you got, you're going to see a dude drive by. Then you're going to see a little dude on a vespal with the camera going by. You don't know ball. They show something's a hey. No, they shut down the road. You can get up there. Sometimes you can get up there with chairlifts or you can go up ahead of time.
Starting point is 01:47:28 It's like a full on European tailgate. I don't know. There's like different corners. You don't know if you know this. I won the best buddies fucking. You were the only one. I was there. You were the only one trying.
Starting point is 01:47:39 The 30 mile. Let's go, baby. I've won the 30 miles. The 30 miles was strong. The 30 mile was for like the kids. Or was it 60? It was a 60 mile. You dipped out on the money. Easy money. It's like you ran the like 50 year old segment in one.
Starting point is 01:47:53 Young Floyd Landis. Let's go. I'm just saying. That would have been sick. For someone who don't know cycling, who don't know, don't know, what do they call them? Spokes. He's a spokehead? I'm a spokehead, dog. Going to see the Twitter friends.
Starting point is 01:48:07 My little guy on and stuff. You got to wear the little thing to. Yeah. Oh yeah. A little crap. Yeah. Well, that's terrible. You got to wear a thing on your crotch for your, the bib.
Starting point is 01:48:18 Your bib, so because you sit down on that thing for like three hours. It's hard. Yeah. But like those guys don't need padding. Get that rash down there. You sit on a certain way. Yeah, you have to sit on a certain way. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:48:30 And it doesn't. But seeing the tour to France on like a big iconic mountain stage. It'd be fun. It'd be fun. It'd be fun. It'd be fine. Get a good croissant. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:48:40 I saw it in Paris. It's hard in Paris. It's tough because it's so many people. But. Yeah, Tour de France. Teddy Pergacha winning Alpdouez. That's what I'm going to go see. Torre France next year.
Starting point is 01:48:48 Natty at Rose Bowl, running with the Bulls and Tiger playing at the Masters. Yeah, that's pretty darn good. Game 7 Penguins winning the Stanley Cup. I like Jacks too. This is me just like cashing things I want. Willing Super Bowl World Cup.
Starting point is 01:48:59 I like Jacks. I like Joe's. Can we trade? I like yours better. No. All right. All right. We'll just go together.
