And now let's get to the podcast.
All right, cool.
We're going.
What's coming?
I'll be playing my personal favorite
favorite slash heaviest corn riff,
some motivation tips and
a lot coming up.
Real quick.
I mean, it might have been a little bit over a week now,
but I just want to dedicate this episode to a special man,
the late Chuck Norris.
He passed away recently.
And obviously, his last name has brought up a lot around here.
So just want to show some respect to him.
I want to know how, what happened to him?
Yeah, I was getting texts about it.
Oh, dude, Chuck Norris passed away.
Did he?
Well, he was 86.
man he lived a life man 80 oh chose not to disclose a specific cause of death he had two heart
attacks well i mean well if you're that badass i mean you're going to have a heart attack
i mean that's you're going to freaking that be that sick you're going to be sick at some point right
wow i mean if you hit 80s i think you lived a full life i think 80s is when like okay that's is
70s or 80.
Man, Chuck Norris, man.
What was that movie?
Yeah, I used to watch his movies as a
kid.
What was? I think it was.
Yeah, let's, I want to see his movie list.
So we're going to take a quick look at his movie.
Okay, sidekicks.
That was my favorite Chuck Norris movie.
1992.
I thought it hit 80s.
1992, sidekicks.
So this was, okay, you want a movie to watch?
This was my personal favorite Chuck Norris movie.
It's about a kid that kind of he would daydream.
And he would always think about having like a mentor and like a hero.
And he looked up to his guy named Chuck Norris.
And I love this movie.
I got to rewatch this movie.
Came out in 92.
So there's a cool movie for you to check out.
Sidekick's, rest in peace, Chuck Norris.
Rest and peace.
Jonathan Brandis.
Really?
Yeah, this kid, yeah.
He passed away too?
No.
Yeah.
How old is he?
He looks young.
Dude, what?
2003.
Passed away.
Passed away in 2003.
Jonathan Brandis.
Yeah, not even 30.
Are you serious?
Yeah.
Sorry, I'm finding out in real time.
27 years old.
Oh, that's the age.
Oh, what happened to him, man?
I'm sorry, I'm trying to find.
Oh, he was, he hung himself.
Brandis was found, hanged in the hallway of his Los Angeles apartment.
I did not know that.
Oh, it's so sad, man.
Died the following day of injuries sustained, obviously, from the hanging.
He was 27 years old.
Brandis did not leave a suicide note.
After his death, friends reported that he had been depressed about his extended
a career. Wow. Poor guy, man. We're all dealing with our own shit, man. Never know. That is
kind of weird. It's always weird like watching movies and listening to music when people that are
not physically here, not physically alive. It's always like, wow. Is this on YouTube?
Yeah. Although full movies on YouTube. Oh, I guess you want to see it. It's on Jay Fowling
it in a matter of a second so yeah 92 I was uh I was seven years old so yeah that that
age checks out see I he would daydreaming he will see like Chuck Norris outside the window
being is cool wow poor guy man yeah shout out to to Chuck Norris and Jonathan um
again I'm not going to get far into it but uh
If you're listening to this on a Monday watching, I am 23 day sober.
Still going through with it.
Feeling pretty good.
I lost six pounds.
Not a lot, but on a frame like mine, six pounds is a lot.
And it's not like this, you know, all your.
you're a weekend and the next day you're like this full clarity and like oh my gosh this is it's uh
but i will say it's it's working um it's not like you know like the next day i've all these
ideas you have all these ideas and stuff you want to do and it's more like oh like it seems like
once a week i've been getting a few uh i thought about it before i sat down uh i'm describing
him that was clicks. A couple of things clicked. Like once, once or twice a week, it was like,
oh, I got a couple ideas that wouldn't normally be there. And I thought that I was, oh, this is
different with the, with the clarity. Oh, this, oh, okay, I got some ideas for the pod or
musically. Musically, I'm walking around more and riffs are in my head more. So, so just a few clicks.
So just 23 days.
So obviously that's three weeks.
And okay, this is, this is sick.
I had a mini rager and hung out with my friend David Ingram.
And this is a brewery called Route 30 in Riverside.
It's off Pierce Street.
And what's the cross street?
I forgot, but it's like, yeah, yeah, it's that one.
And it's a really cool brewery and then next to it is another one.
It's the other brewery.
So, you know, I had like an urge to kind of go out.
I'm going out once a week to kind of get like the social.
You got to go out and fucking talk to people, man.
And, you know what?
I'm going to do a little rager.
See what happens.
And I'll explain while I'm doing this after this.
But I went into this brewery.
You know, you have, you know, you ask the question, you have any non-acoholic beer?
And he said, no.
I'm like, okay.
Not after a good start.
What do you have?
And they had hop water on tap.
And that's the first time I ever had hop water.
And I still don't entirely know what hop water is.
But it tasted pretty damn good.
And it was, it's helpful when it's on tap.
So, you know, I saw them. I was watching them. I kind of get like the whole experience. You know, see like the order from the bartender. You look at the bartender kind of being a creep watching them pour your drink. Okay, cool. Pretty sick. I think they was telling me it's from a hop is from a leaf. A leaf that they put into alcoholic beer. Hops, yes. Hops are the flowers of, um,
the humulus i'm i can't two words i can't pronounce fine uh the a key ingredient in beer
for bitterness aroma and flavor that makes sense um pretty cool it's nice but it's just nice
obviously water is like it's a foundational um liquid but uh you know you want like that extra
special kick and it did the job sat down outside it was
beautiful evening like 7 p.m.
The sun's going down.
It was beautiful.
And enjoyed a good...
Okay, that looks like bird shit.
I guess you put that in water.
It's pretty good.
But I had the hop water.
Then we did the first bar hop.
We went to the other brewery and, you know,
you asked the same question.
You know, what a...
Yeah, I mean non-accoholic beer.
And they're like, yes.
and uh there there there there's a reason i'm building up to something because i need help with something
and then okay you know what i was like i'm gonna do a little mini rage and they had the was cool about
this brew is a brew crew yeah i went there they had like tacos outside kind of a cool vibe uh they
had a rock band play um shit i forgot the name but uh i had a beer i'd never seen
before they have like four oh okay you know i'm gonna i'm gonna try them all and i try one okay
this stood outside hung out it's casually drank a non-accoholic beer and then okay okay cool
and then i had the athletic ones they had the athletic ones there it's classic i had three of those
those little it's little cans and then uh say hey let's fucking let's keep bar hopping then we went back
to root 30 and had an and then another hop water
And this is the best part.
Oh shit, we're done hanging out.
Been hanging out for a couple hours.
Time to go home.
And then I was driving home.
And this is a other little clicker.
This is one of the more like minor clicks.
And I think anyone that's cut back might know what I'm talking about.
Oh shit, I went straight home.
I wasn't tempted.
to do that classic, the classic stop somewhere.
You know what sounds good right now?
Like some, it's a pint of ice cream.
Or like, you know, like, I'll go to Del Taka right now.
Or I'll go to, I'll get a burrito.
And that's literally, that's saved,
1,500 calories.
And I went home and I was like, oh, I feel the same.
I got, you know, like a common sense, like lightball moment.
I was like, oh, shit.
I went out, social, got that at, got that, um, urge out of my body.
Um, saw a close friend.
So you got the human connection part down.
And then, uh, went home and felt, I, I, how do you say it?
Um, I almost didn't know normal, but you felt like, oh, okay, feel good.
passed out and then woke up the next day the end of sunday i was like oh i have five drinks technically
and i'm up and there's nothing no little hangover no no drowsy feeling i was like holy
holy fucking moly this is different this is cool um that was pretty sick and uh so what so what did i
learn there i don't know like i guess it's more kind of common sense shit oh shit you could
you could still go out and still feel good that was that was something that uh that was really cool
so i need help with something um i'm doing this in real time i did it with jay last week
so i'm looking for around santa anna here but mostly in corona where i'm at where i live
it's a thing happening in real time
so it kind of need people to tell me
if they've seen it anything
but if you're around
Corona
and if you know any places
that have non-alcoholic beer on tap
that's the key
you know any please tell me
because I've been looking
I looked at all my favorite places
they don't have it it's either a can
let my favorite place
lamp post I went there with my lady
had a salad but they only have
the cans of the
Mikolo Ultra Zeros
which is cool because they're ice cold and they put it in a pint
so he's kind of like the
you get like the vibe had two of those
it's cool and they and they told me
because I was podcasting them
the bartenders. How do
would you ever do like a non-uncoholic beer here on tab
he's like no way
like this case that you're drinking
And this lasts us like four months.
I was like, oh shit.
So I'm not the target market.
So I'm looking for places that have non-alcoholic beer on tap.
I found one place.
It's at Dos Lagos at All-Stars.
All-Stars pub or something?
All-Stars?
I think it's considered a pub.
Yes.
Yeah, All-Star drives sports bar and grill.
I went there with a friend.
And they had a non-alcoholic.
IPA on tap and that shit was sick.
Tasted great.
Again, you leave and you feel
shit, feel good.
So that's my current journey.
And I've been doing some research
online
and apparently it's happening
in real time. It's a thing
where not many bars
have non-acoholic beer on tap
on draft.
So from what I found
when you put non-uncoholic beer in like
keg it does it goes bad
quickly
so that's personally
what I found
um
but yeah I'm looking
I think
yeah already found something
Bravis
Bravis Brewing Company
Bravus Brewing Company
in Anaheim a dedicated
non-alcoholic craft brewery
offering on top
tiered not
what the fuck is this
in Anaheim
I'm gonna go there in rage
I'm gonna go there
drink four of them
get naked. Oh, that's fucking sick. Okay. Bravest
Brewing Company in Anaheim.
You got blood orange, right? P.A.'s. Ambers.
They got a tower.
Oh, wow. I bet they don't have any fights there.
Man, when you have a couple drinks, dude, there's something and
just awakens you in you think you could go fight anybody.
Oh, another thing I learned.
not drinking alcohol is
how do you say this
I might be speaking too soon
but I'm becoming more me
I feel even more of a psycho
I just clear-headed like really driven
like really
way more driven
that's what I've been noticing
way more competitive
way more
so that's been kind of cool
so again
if you know any spots please tell me around corona i've only found all stars
because obviously i want to know places i could take my lady and we have like a date night there
because she doesn't drink i'm the idiot um so yeah please help me i'm looking
uh maybe like riverside area too is cool norco is probably all right um maybe chino's all right
um east phil's okay kind of like in like the like the like the like
the sanity around there.
So yeah, that's what,
that's what I've been doing.
Hardest part on my list, too.
What has it been the hardest part?
Um,
I don't want to say it's been easy,
but it's been pretty chill.
The non-uncahog beer
really settles any urge.
I've been digging that.
But the hardest part.
Hardest part will be,
again, it's the last thing in my list.
I don't know.
I don't know what it is, but man, it makes you horned up.
Like my sexual desire not to get too gross on here, but man, it's like, I'm just horned up, man.
It's horned up.
Maybe because like the blood's flowing.
Um, I don't know.
But that's been, that's been kind of sick.
Like my
My wiener's working
So that's kind of cool
Um
Yeah
This
Gym's more focused
I'm hitting up the sauna
Because uh
Not to get too geeky
But uh
Since I'm not drinking
I'm also focusing on
Uh detoxifying
Uh
detoxifying the body
The brain
The heart
And I've been doing five ten minutes
Do you have five minutes last week
Doing ten minutes
this week
and I'm being consistent
and not working
I'm drowsies
oh shit
wake up ready to go
pretty cool
yeah shout out to the sauna
I noticed a difference
for sure
go there
just fucking
multitasking
answering texts
as opposed to taking a shit
and texting
I've upgraded to
the sauna and texting
so that's been pretty cool
you know swaying it out
so that's in my journey lately
I think it's time for a Jay update
How's Jay doing?
Pretty good
Lost my grandma
So we had some funeral stuff
Over the weekend
Pretty heavy
Big loss in the family
But it was a good time
You know
We were together
And
Keep on keeping on I guess
Yeah
And your grandma helped
race you, right?
Yeah, yeah.
She was my second mom, pretty much.
So, yeah, it's just still processing that, I guess.
I was at the gym this morning, and then a song came on,
and I was just thinking about all the people that,
um, that I've, uh, you know, I've lost and stuff.
And, and, yeah, I'll just say, damn.
Uh, just had to bury it deep because, uh, I don't want to cry in front of people.
So then, uh, you know, just finish the set and just, uh,
I was excited to come to come through, do some work here and stuff.
Yeah, wait until you get in the car.
Oh, no, yeah.
Yeah, no, it comes and goes, you know.
It's the memory, the memories, and then it's just like, oh, shit, yeah.
But yeah, yeah, I grew up in that house for a while.
Yeah, I had a lot of conversations with there, you know, towards the end, a lot of one-on-ones.
So I'm grateful for that.
It's cool.
How old was she?
She was 74.
74, man.
But still, you know,
still,
very lucid.
She was working until her final days.
Wow.
You know, come over.
She'd try to feed us and be like,
you gotta just,
you gotta just rest, you know?
But that's how she was.
Uh,
ultra hard worker.
Mm.
Yeah, raised,
uh, many kids, many grandkids.
And, yeah, just got a salida delante, as she would say, you know, just keep going forward and pull through and work hard.
How do you say that?
Salida adelante.
Okay.
It means like to come through, like to push forward, you know, always.
Always push forward.
It's a very Mexican thing, you know.
All the Rasa listening could probably definitely relate, you know.
Yeah.
They know.
Yeah.
It's good, man, that you're hitting Jim thinking.
For some reason, like, they kind of awakens thoughts and feelings.
Yeah.
It's like everything's buried.
You're going to shake it up.
Yeah.
Well, we'll shout out, man, too.
To your grandma.
Yeah, thanks, man.
I think we're ready to hop into some quick questions.
Go.
Let's stop all this dumb sober talk.
All this healing shit.
Yeah.
So stupid.
Okay, I've been saving this one for a while
And this is actually a two-parter
Because I think I'm going to answer only one of the part
And I might save the other part for other solo episode
But I'm answer this part first
All right
Brandon
Brian Sanderson
Dash W3R
Garza
What's your favorite corn riff or the heaviest riff in your opinion?
So I'm going to answer the heaviest one
just seeing them
listening to it
it was a no brainer
and I think
we should just play it
I think we should just play it
and then we'll
and then we'll talk more about it
I even got the
proper pedal for it
I brought up my
Digitech whammy
I didn't bring out the pog
and be lazy I have my
my whammy here I don't have the XP
that they actually use
I probably
should get at XP because that's what they actually use for this drift yeah yeah the XP uh 100
dang it's on reverb right now for 150 that's the pedal dude
i bought one but it was broken i'm like oh shit i'm gonna do the shit anymore dude but that's the
fucking corn but but the whammy is after it has it's the similar effect but uh
i mean when you hear it i mean it's just every time i hear it i'm like oh yeah that's why
that's why they're my favorite band that's why i'm why i'm
where I'm in that fucking heavy ass stupid band.
I hear it.
You can play it for you guys.
Heaviest corn riff, in my opinion.
And my humble new metal opinion.
That's just like, I don't think they downpick it, but I like downpicking it.
It kind of gives like a little bit extra.
And you can fucking definite it too.
I'm put a little crazy effect on it.
That's the suicide silence version of it.
But, but yeah, when they play it live, man, it's just like, wow.
Whenever it just hits every time that's the one you know sometimes you see like your favorite band
And uh there'll be like like a section and their set we where you look forward to it and that's that's one of them that and whenever they play chi
uh chi or uh you all want a single say fuck that uh that's also this because they just go off and man but that riff in in particular is the most consistently uh
heavy thing ever every time i'm like oh my gosh why isn't why isn't my ban that heavy why or
it just you just give me minded oh yeah that's that's why they're that's why they're that's why they're
goats but yeah that's my personal um favorite well they're heaviest rip in my personal opinion
and then uh because i was thinking about what are my favorites i'm like dude that's gonna take
some thought i'm not to like write them out because i don't it changes
there's songs I played it and I stopped playing and then there's other ones
I'm oh
but yeah that that riff is just fucking silly
so I had to give you I just want to play it for you guys
wait uh for the listener who's not corn uh enthusiasts
what riff is that oh that is here to stay there it is okay
yeah oh yeah I probably should say said the name I like I love to keep up
guessing hmm so I here to stay off untouchables
I always make the mistake
I still do it where I just assume
everyone that listen to heavy music listens to new metal
I always do it
I'm like oh you don't like new metal
and I just forget oh yeah it's also a very hated genre
and
I forget I also forget that people hate deathcore as well
there'll always be a separation
with new metal
death core and death metal
It's always going to be there, man.
I try to bridge the gap a lot, but it's some separation.
But you can't hit on Quarman.
They're the fucking goats.
I mean, how many bands of that riff inspired?
It's fucking crazy, man.
But shout out to here to stay.
Again, it's untouchables if you're not familiar.
I keep forgetting.
But untouchables, that's track one.
In case you want to, even want a heavy riff to just enter your fucking eardrums.
I was going to play another one
but I think I'll save that for
for later
yeah this is something about
about the whammy like just like the
you can get the sound on the
pog
and the pitchfork
in like a pedal form
but
but just like the whammy
it has like the
sometimes
with pedals it's the
it's the imperfections that
that you want.
And this is a classic example.
Actually, so because of here to stay,
that's what I was going to do.
I almost forgot.
I should have put it in my notes like an idiot.
But I ripped off that effect
and put it into
Susa Sound Songs.
So it's the same effect.
It's the fucking, what you, harmony?
It says here on the pedal harmony.
It's the note, but it's octave lower combined.
So you can't really do a chord, but when you do top string,
and it's the lower plus the original note.
I can't really figure out how to articulate that,
but it just has that low without width.
It's instantly corn, but it's funny.
I try to use that effect a lot,
but I think it turned my ban off because I'll use it too much.
and then now it's kind of funny because it's just everywhere
all bands through the drop tuning thing
I'm just kind of another example like if
if something's in your gut don't listen to people like
just do what you want to do I I wish I used to octave a lot more
but I was listening to opinions and and now everyone's using the octave
everyone's doing drop tuning it's just funny how
how music evolves but yeah
Same effect, boom, on.
And it's the bridge for
for wake up.
Often time and bleed.
Yeah, this is the same effect.
Just two notes.
It's actually really hard to play
because Alex, our previous drummer,
did like some weird, like,
he would just, he would delay a certain kick.
And even to this day, like, I have, well,
with Alex, he,
he would do like this.
following his heartbeat
that only he has
but uh
he would delay the kick
and I always had a hard time live
of like
like locking it in
it's really tough
it's like
it's like three forcing the way in
like
I like how do
and uh every show is different
but uh
and then on track three
smoke
uh same same effect
it's the
is it in the bridge
but I guess
more so in the outro it's uh and i think we put it in and then she bled track seven but uh that's a
different tuning that was drop g but yeah it's uh it's kind of all over that record so again uh yeah
again shout out to corn for uh inspiring me to do do shit as i get older like it i just i just
get reminded too i'm like oh yeah i i did that and that that because of that and then um
I'm always learning like oh you got to tell people sometimes where you get it from because even like they they don't know.
So yeah if you're curious, it's the whamming that gets the effect.
If you don't really care about like the nuances and like the dorky stuff, you get the same effect on the pod.
The electrohomonic's pod or the or the electrohomonic's pitchfork or if you have a quad cortex, just put on the octave there.
to be honest, I haven't personally sat down.
It's going to take a while,
because I want to match the fucked-upness of the octave,
but that's going to take some time.
And I haven't truly sat down here.
I really made my tone, and then I kept it there.
I haven't really touched my main tone.
But the octave effect is, for me, personally,
it's really hard to hit or make it sound the way you want it to sound.
But you could do it with the quad.
Well, cool.
Yeah, thank you for your.
question. I'll answer the
favorite riffs for
another day.
Number two.
Oh my goodness.
I'm glad I'm sober for
this one.
Okay, I'm going to try it and then Jay's
going to have to correct me, but I
want to try it.
Negligent.
Okay, got it. Negligent.
Can you describe
how music
makes you feel and
how heavy music shaped you as a human for better or for worse um can you describe how music
makes you feel on the top of my my my my brain my working brain um it makes you feel connected um
it makes you feel connected to something else um because you got you get like not like somebody
but you can like the same music and there's there's a that bridges the gap sometimes it's like uh
it just makes connects connects uh everything i'm a firm believer of uh things that connect all of us on the
planet um transcends language is it's music all over the world kind of keeps us all like we
relate to each other and we understand each other regardless of the politics going on
especially right now and anything negative happening.
Music just kind of keeps it.
Music and sports too.
Sports kind of connects people.
Art in general, I think, just kind of connects.
And how has heavy music shaped you as a person, as a human?
I mean, it put me to the ringer.
How has it shaped me?
Probably made me an idiot.
Writing music, definitely.
Personally, uh, personally, you know, this could change, this, this can vary from, uh, band and band, artist to artists.
But for me, it's definitely made me like, uh, the negative part, but it could be positive.
Uh, it's definitely turning me into a psycho. Like, you really can't, um, you do need to be
sensitive when, uh, writing, um, uh, you kind of, you, you have to, uh, you, you have to, uh,
feel your feelings
again and again and again and again
and then you go out and play it live
and then you kind of have to like
for however many shows there is that
that month or you know
at least 20
um so every night you have to kind of
how would you say it is you kind of have to
you kind of have to let the demons out
uh
you have to kind of refill those emotions
and I found
I'd always touch on it but
you kind of
it's weird
when there's a great show
and the band makes a lot of money
and you sell a lot of merch
and you meet people and say they have a great time
there's definitely a direct correlation
between that and how bad of a show I had
bad meaning like oh I
it was successful
like played
good and the emotions
actually
came through.
The negative emotions
the negative memories
the negative
trauma that's
impacted my life. When I could
when I access that
when it happens and it clicks
I just find a direct
correlation that to making
more money and it's very strange
So the more I connect with the trauma
The childhood trauma
And just past people in my life
Or things I don't like about myself
Or hate or evil demons
I always bring demons
But when it connects
It creates a positive
So that's taught me like
Throughout my life
That's taught me all you could turn negatives into a positive
and that's I
that's
spilled over into all aspects of my life
bad day you could turn to a good day
um bad day you could uh I have the
music has given me
heavy music has given me the
the life experience
of channeling
and processing a negative emotion
seeing the negative emotions in a healthy way.
Not being destructive.
Having a bad day.
You can help someone be, have a good day.
Or when you have a bad day, kind of have like the,
what's this, what's this bad day or negative emotion trying to tell me?
Something's trying to tell me something.
And I learned that through, through music.
Heavy music has brought a lot of tragedy in my life.
And that's taught me how to, you know, do a tragedy.
death and how to process that or not process it, what not to do. I learned that. Um,
so it's taught me, uh, it's helped me grow up, uh, in a fast, in a very fast way, uh, with the
tragedy. And also just, uh, perspective. It'd be good way to close this one. It's perspective. Um,
a lot of the traveling.
man, been everywhere.
I forgot how many times we've been to Europe
or England or Scotland or
Mexico, South America
China is my favorite place to go
like Thailand,
Australia, Japan once
and just seeing
just give me a lot of experience
and a lot of perspective
So I could definitely relate and see how
When you do a lot of traveling
And you meet a lot of people of all kinds of
Races and ages and ethnicities
And
Yeah it gives you like a very fresh perspective
Well we're all again
It just kind of connects everything
We're not so separate
I kind of see how some bands get into like the politic kind of aspect of it
like as do you see everything and see how everything also how everything's fucked up
I remember and I haven't thought about this till right now
it was it was China and we were walking around
I think it was Beijing and then we're walking around some kind of like
it was massive just seeing like
older buildings and then it was like a tourist like attraction i forgot what it was man
fuck and it's being around so many fucking people and then i wonder i then right when you leave
um when you leave we're walking on this uh i wonder gee my find oh it's what's what's
we're not now we're looking up uh actually that's it
is that it right there what's that that motherfucker that that might that might be it
I'm sorry we're we're figuring out
every real time.
That's the whole encyclopedia.
Oh, fuck.
Yeah, it was like a, it was like a square.
I remember that.
And then, and then we, when we walked in,
and then when we left,
walking down the sidewalk, it was,
is it Tiananmen?
No.
No.
But, uh, yeah, so we're leaving
and we're walking on the sidewalk.
And then, uh, how would you say?
It's kind of like,
if you're from the states
and if you're from a big city
you know what I'm talking about
it's like a
not beggars
but like people ask you for money
and
like it was
fucked up
um
like these people were like
look beat up
they didn't have arms
I remember like
or limbs it was like
I remember walking
it was our first time in China
and so I want to say I was
definitely my 20s
and I've seen all those people that are just fucked up
and a whole other
completely other side of the planet
and I'm like damn
sometimes a perspective
has seen something fucked up
and unfortunately the things in my life
that give me like the perspective
are the tragedies and seeing like stuff like that
I'm like walking the sidewalk
just looking
and then you try to ignore it
you know and it's like
but it's there forever
it's there forever so
unfortunately
it's given me a lot of
perspective
shit's fucked up
shit's fucked up out there
and it's still
happening man
shaping
shaping me as a person
it also helps me
try not to be a piece of shit
because that's my
um
that's my go-to
it's fun to be
because when you're
Following your dream, you have to be selfish.
But when that spills over, that's not how life works.
So then you learn how to, you know, compartmentalize things.
That helps you really control your emotions, really.
Because you get success this way, but that doesn't work after you're 30.
Because being selfish is not exactly a healthy way of being.
Yeah, negligent.
Thank you for your question.
It made me think about some shit I haven't thought about in many years, which always, it's always a point.
I do it.
I got this one.
Okay, sour cream Sanchez.
Okay.
Okay.
Sour cream Sanchez 6012.
What would your older version think about you now?
Oh, I don't know.
what we're older version
Think about you now
It's kind of similar to that question
Where you know what will you tell your
Older self
Or what will you tell your younger self right?
Is that the same?
What will you tell your younger self?
I think about that too
What would you tell your younger self
And I was like well nothing
Because that idiot wouldn't listen
That younger self would not listen
It's fucking stubborn
selfish um what would your older self think about you now um i don't know i would like to think
i would like to think proud but uh it's hard to say because um i'm glad i'm answering this now
with the clear of mind but there's still so much to do um as far as musically and with this
and life, I wonder if the older self would be like you're on the right track or you're fucking up.
You're an idiot.
You're 40.
I don't know.
Will my older version be proud?
I think so.
But it's hard.
Yeah, we're talking earlier.
Like, it's so difficult to have an opinion on yourself because you see the same person every day in the mirror.
And all the things you do that are good for yourself and the people around you and your family,
it's just so hard for you to see it because you're just in it every day.
It's like losing weight.
If you lose five pounds, 10 pounds, you don't see it because you see yourself every day.
But someone else sees you like a month later or a year later.
Like, what the fuck happened to you?
Holy shit.
So, yeah, that's something I'm still struggling with.
is kind of, you know, kind of celebrating those small wins.
I don't know.
I like to think the older version would be like, yeah, you're, you fucking come a long way, man.
Or maybe, uh, maybe you will say you're a fucking idiot still.
And now you're less than an idiot.
So I'm proud of you there.
Yeah, that's some shit to chew on, man.
I think it's a healthy exercise for all of us to do.
I don't know.
Why we're older self to be?
I don't know.
Wow.
All right, Sanchez.
Thank you for your question, man.
Appreciate it.
Okay.
Okay.
I got it.
Rift and men.
What do you think, Jay?
Yeah.
Sounds right.
Rift and men.
Do you still go to shows?
Yes.
I go to as many shows as I possibly can.
A local, I just went to a local one.
Last week at DBZ, I got a text on a Monday.
That was pretty sick.
Yeah, I've been announcing where I'm going to be here
just so kids people want to hang out.
I try to go to shows, so again, it gives me a perspective.
I like knowing what's going on.
I just also I just don't want to be jaded
Um
It's a big reason why I started the podcast
Along with the long list of that
Why but uh
I don't want to be jaded
Um just date being jaded will cause
An unsuff-aware
Delusion of who you are and where you're at
And I've experienced that
Not for me but seeing it
with other people around me.
I'm like, I don't want to be that way.
I want to know what's going on.
I like going to backyard shows.
Kids in high school, what are they doing?
You know, I could just, I don't know.
Because I remember my first thought was like,
oh, kids are probably drinking.
They're probably on their phones,
short attention span.
I think whenever people start talking like that,
I fucking don't listen to them.
And, yeah, I went to a high school backyard show
and no one was drinking.
and no one's on their phones.
I'm the one on the phone.
So I was like, okay, okay,
I wouldn't have known that if I didn't go.
So I like going to show.
It just keeps me, keeps my mind fresh.
Because the mind just wants to be dull.
The mind just wants to, you know it all.
And it's funny.
I had a band member say, I'm not humble.
Like, bitch, you know,
what was the last show you went to?
But that's, but that's what it causes.
It's just,
if you're jaded,
it just causes,
like you don't really know what's going on,
and then you have these really strong opinions
based out of nothing.
Yeah,
I'm just scared of being jaded.
I like knowing what's going on.
I like,
I'm on TikTok.
I found my,
I sent a DM to somebody
a few days ago to a dude,
a drummer,
or a music drummer.
And I was like,
what the fuck am I doing?
I was telling,
I was telling him,
to go on TikTok.
And I was like finding myself being an advocate for it.
I was like, holy shit.
I don't even recognize this person.
I remember talking shit on TikTok like a couple years ago.
Oh, we're not, we don't need that.
And now I'm on it and telling other people go on it.
Because as I as right now, as far as Facebook, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.
Tick-Tock has been the one
that has been feeding me stuff I want to watch.
That's how I found out about that band
Empty Showcasing.
Open up TikTok and it's a fucking
a new metal band.
They're like new metal.
It's hardcore.
And then it's fucking
I'm not getting out on Instagram.
I was like, what the fuck is this?
It was cool as a jam their EP on Spotify.
I was like, oh shit.
It's also three.
on me just nothing but
97 dust
and long form too
it's not just short form shit dude like
again like when we're JD you don't know
these things but
it's giving me like
three minute videos or longer
um we actually post
long form on our TikTok
like 10 minute long clips
and
they do better than the short form
stuff that we're posting
um
Yeah, that Chris Barnes one, long form.
Like, you really never really know unless you're in there.
And that, I mean, at that point, I was part on TikTok for, I mean, a year and a half.
And it's kind of, I don't know, it just kind of got me.
It knows, okay, this is what's going to keep this person here.
This is thrown like a brand new, young, upcoming new metal band.
It was fucking sick.
So, yeah, it's kind of, I like knowing what.
what's going on.
TikTok is like, okay, how people,
you know, because I keep hearing,
oh, this is how this band got big
because of this or,
or people are finding out about new music here.
I was like, okay, so I got on there.
At first, it's weird and it's different,
but then I enjoy TikTok now and it's weird.
I never, again, I sent this fucking DM
I was like, I am advocating for TikTok.
Who am I?
But it's cool.
Once you kind of get it, I was like, oh shit.
See, I've been watching old seven dust stuff.
Seeing what kids are posting.
We actually had a, yep, I've seen the same thing on TikTok, literally.
What's this song?
Probably Rumblefish?
Yep, there it is.
Seven Dust, that song Rumblefish is having a moment.
And I saw it happen in real time.
One of the hardest songs ever.
Me and Alex will always play this song at practice.
And finally, the world's finding out what me and Alex knew all along.
Rumblefish is one of the hardest songs ever.
And I found out, and it happened on TikTok.
If you go on Seven Dess's Spotify, it came out of nowhere.
Now it's on their fucking top five, I think, right now.
I'm like, come out of nowhere, boom.
And it was really cool to kind of see it happen.
I just kept seeing Rumblefish.
Rumblefish.
Now it's number four.
That was not on the top ten.
Crazy.
Crazy.
And I saw it happen in real time.
And actually, it just happened to us, too.
I think a bludgeon is having a moment.
Let's see, see what happens when you type in that shit.
Okay, so it sounds.
Top five.
bludgeon.
I don't think he was even top 10.
I've been seeing a lot of bludgeon videos on TikTok.
I'm like, what the fuck is this?
And then I went on Spotify randomly and, oh, top five?
I think bands set lists are going to start changing
because people are consuming music in a very different way.
We're talking to Chavelle here about a comfortable liar.
I think that might be their number three song now on their Spotify.
And that happened everywhere.
That happened on TikTok and Instagram.
Now it's number two.
Like dude,
fucking crazy, dude.
Yeah.
And maybe again, shout out again to a Jay Somber, like seeing them,
seeing kids rock out in their garage.
And that song kept seeing it.
Kept seeing it.
So yeah, the recent one right now is,
legend this happened uh last week i saw a couple videos i'm like oh shit
solid comments a lot of views um so i do see i do see the power of ticot in real time but
but the rumble fishing was really cool to see because i saw it this happened out of nowhere
and uh that's why i go to shows that's why i i like to consume social media
because the rest of my band does nothing they do absolutely
Absolutely nothing.
So I'm kind of like, okay, who's gonna, who's the one going to all the shows?
Who's the one on social media, seeing how people are consuming music?
YouTube as well.
But YouTube is more like, I mean, everyone's on that.
Everyone's on YouTube.
But it might take time.
If you're on TikTok, it might take time.
But for me, it was like after a year and a half to, it just started like.
Because I admit, I will admit, like, I wasn't on there, on there.
I was just posting podcast clips.
So it's solely for like posting ghosts, posting ghosts, posting ghosts.
Then I don't know where I'll open it up.
Seven dust.
90s.
And I'm horned up.
So it could take a while.
That was my personal experience with TikTok.
It took a while.
I didn't like it at first.
Then now it's just, okay, what new, new metal band am I going to find out today?
But my favorite that I've seen is empty shell casing.
and that was solely TikTok.
Okay, that's why I still go to shows.
It keeps my brain fresh.
Also, I'm afraid of dying, dude.
I'm afraid of dying.
I want to know what's going on.
I want to keep my body and minds.
It's fresh knowing what's going on with the newer bands.
I like going to massive shows,
and I like going to the small shows
and meeting people,
asking people questions.
Again, I'll say it every solo.
I podcast everybody.
I podcast fans.
I podcast bartenders.
I'll podcast whoever.
Yeah, I'm watching shit.
Dude, kids are fucking loving it, dude.
Just loving it.
Well, cool.
I think we should probably
save this one,
because we're already like an hour in, I think.
And that's without trying.
kind of go on. I hope people don't mind the rants. Sometimes this kind of goes on like another
tangent, but I got I got these cue cards. Oh, no. I don't know the fuck I'm doing.
It's a picture of Leo, Leo, Leo, the cat. He's, he's killing it. I avoided the cue cards for
a while because I thought it's too, it's too professional. So I said, you know what?
Do a picture of my cat just to keep, keep it chill.
Well, speaking of all the Seven Dusts talk,
I don't know what people remember,
but we had Morgan Rose on the pod a while ago.
He was one of the early ones.
He's always been a really open guy.
So whenever there's an interview of him,
he's always open.
He'll always say like a headline.
And he was talking about,
how Seven Dust were talking about,
breaking up.
I was like, man, that would be so tragic, dude.
That would be so tragic.
He actually talked about it first on this pod.
So when I also started to come out,
I kind of remember, like, him talking about that.
Like, they're getting older.
Like, there's kind of thinking about hanging it up.
My guess, they actually had the conversation.
And I totally get it, man.
I totally get it
Like you feel
Again, it's ties into what I was saying earlier
Going to shows
Like you just feel like
It feels like a young humans game
Like touring, playing music all the time
Um
It's just
And how long can you do this?
I mean, shit we're in 40s, 50s
I think it's done
I think it's time to hang it up
Um
Yeah, I would never imagine I'm going to be 40 years old still head banging.
My body is fine.
I remember he planted the seed.
Remember I'm talking about it.
Oh, shit, but they actually talked about it.
Maybe last record.
Maybe they're going to hang it up.
But there's still a phenomenal band.
And I'm glad that they seems like they talk it out, which is really important.
Because again, we're talking about being in the inside of yourself.
It's really hard to see.
progress that you made and I guess in their band
it's kind of maybe hard to see
but from outsider
you know they're fucking killing it dude
they still look great they're fucking
I still watch their videos
even newer ones I just like them
or Morgan Post
you posted part of last week on TikTok
um him drumming
I'm like still still
goaded still
um I'm still horned up
I see seven Dutch now
and I get horned up.
Yeah, I understand, man.
I understand.
It's like, how long should we do this?
Fucking over it, man.
Last record, last tour.
Come on.
But, and then your body will sometimes
kind of tell you things,
hey, you know,
what are you doing?
You're still fucking doing this, dude?
But you know what, dude?
The mind can control the body.
because I don't want a head bang that hard
but the body and the demons
the mind the demons
just tell the body to do something else
and that's what I learned
so I'm really
fucking stoked that they're not going to hang it up
from outsider
man they're not even close
you're not even close dude
there's still so many there's so many years left
year you're talking years
dude. But, you know, sometimes you got to
sometimes you got to talk it out, you know.
You never really know. You got to fucking talk it out.
What should I do?
I'll do one more.
So I think I ran to too much earlier.
But I think,
man, it's always happens.
This always happens, man. We just talk tragedy.
Death and that's, but that's what this is.
Fuck it. Who cares?
That's what this thing is.
I was thinking about Dave Brockie from Aguar.
I think he popped up in my brain because the anniversary of his death just came up.
What's a date?
Yeah, March 23rd.
2014, really?
It was eight years ago, dude?
That does not feel like eight years.
Wow.
Oh, wait, no.
Yeah, so 14, 12 years.
Oh, my goodness.
My math is fucked up.
Oh, just, just 12 years.
Fuck.
Mess.
Over a decade ago,
Oh, holy moly.
I think we did their last tour
as a band.
They did the Australia run
with us called No Sleep Till.
I believe it was.
That might have been their last run.
It was this one.
wonder we get a year on this
I have a mega death headline
that shit fucking sucked
2010
really is that 2010
oh shit
this is it
maybe maybe it was an other one
man a lot of these tours are starting to fucking mush together
which is not cool
remember uh
Dave uh
Dave this is uh
he's a one in one
he uh
because
it's all
So all so these festivals so you get you get to fly to each show so they will fucking fill these planes with bands just fill them up dude.
Just um, uh, just fill is the the plane is full of bands.
And, uh, I mean, I don't know how to even say this.
Uh, remember we were walking.
This is when I'm still drinking at this point.
I mean, this is 2010.
I'm still drinking before flights.
Um.
So, you know, especially doing this, I remember I was drinking, what did they call, screwdrivers or vodka and orange juice, correct?
It's the whole screwdriver.
We will roll up to the, oh yeah, cool.
Yeah, vodka orange juice.
I mean, have those in a long time, but, yeah, we're drink screwdrivers prior to the flight.
And, uh, remember, uh,
Dave Brock was walking alongside us, getting ready to board the plane, and his fucking face was like tomato red.
And he had a, he had an iPod.
And he was kind of like rocking out.
And then he told, I think he told, not he didn't tell me, he told like our baseball, I think it was.
He's like, ever heard these guys?
Like, like, who?
like rage against the machine
like
I think he was hearing
rage against machine
for the first time
or something
I'm like
what the fuck just happened
he just heard of rage
right now
and he was like
it's rocking out
it's like
oh that's
one in one
and then we played this
uh
it was a
the venue
was a prison
um
was it Perth
I believe it was Perth
and uh
and the dressing rooms were
prison cells
so each band got their own cell
and uh
so we
we fucking roll in
and then
they had a table outside of our
those kind of like
prison cells
kind of parallel together
and then it was a big kind of open space
in the middle for people to hang out in
um
and then
And so there's a table in front of our room and a squar.
Brockie had a fucking, I mean, this is during a day.
We haven't even, we're getting ready to fucking rock.
And then Dave Brockie just starts throwing a bottle of Yeager to each of us to take, to take a fucking sip.
And I don't think Mark was drink.
I don't know.
And then, um, what would Dave Brockie throws you a bottle of Yeager?
You gotta, you gotta do a shot.
and uh
it's a very fond memory
it's a very
it's a very nice memory I have
yo
yo gar's just through a fucking bottle of Yeager
and you're cashing you fucking take the
top off of me and fucking do a shot
and then you pass it around
and then we do the show
and uh
he's in our room
and it's a small room
it's a prison cell
It's a small prison cell
And so I assume the bottle is gone
Um
And uh
So we
So our show is done so we're
So we're all horned up
From the show and the alcohol that's running through
Our our systems are
Our organic bodies
And uh
Dave was telling this story
how he was going to take over the White House
and he was trying to find people
to help him dig a tunnel I think he was saying
through the White House
to take it over
and remember it was just an insane
but pleasant story
and I just want to say
what a pleasure it was to
to have those moments
with him. He was really cool guy.
he didn't know this very well but he
even the first day he was hanging out with
with the other guys in the band very uh welcoming
this made a fucking laugh
I mean I'm telling the stories now
I mean this coming to me in like real time
I'm chain linking
and I was he's a really cool guy man
and I remember when we found out the news
that did it pass away
just another brother
another brother gone
is fucking super sad
man. I never heard anything bad about him.
I never heard anything say anything bad about
Dave Brock. So I just wanted to
remember Dave Brock and tell some really cool stories about him.
You know,
I like kind of opening the vault stories
sometimes and people I hung out with
and Dave Rock was one of them. Just
seeing him get ready for,
for Aguars show.
Kind of staying out of his way.
You know, it's like really
and man I always like I would sit here for this watch all his old interviews they're just classic there's nothing
nothing like it his interviews dude fuck he locked into that and you don't know we we got to
it's gone and unfortunately you know from first experience great great guy man so I just want
to show some some love to what date brocky before we close his motherfucker off um
Oh my goodness.
I think we're, uh, you know, I was going to say the outro now, but you know what?
I'm going to give you guys, uh, just, just for listening, a little, a little bonus.
A little horned up bonus.
So this is, uh, so since we're talking about going to shows, um, the past a week or two weeks, I should say, um, there's three bands and albums I've been jamming.
and when was last week
and again today, this morning
and then Jim
Scars of Tomorrow
rope tied to the trigger
that record is so sick
and sometimes
you put on records
and you just keep your minded
this Scars of Tomorrow record
is so fucking good
dude even today I'm like
oh
I wanted to say like the
guitar tone
has to be Mesa
it has to be
but it's a
it's a
guitar tone I have never heard before.
It's really good, but it's like,
I can't even, I can't even describe it. I'm not, I'm not gonna hype it up, but it's a,
yeah, came out in 2004.
Style is metalcore.
I always like seeing like the style, because back then, you couldn't even put like a
finger on it, but, uh, yeah, my, my favorite track is track for
simicating words, but yeah, just, it's a quick listen.
I don't know if the length is on there.
Probably not.
But it's a great listen.
11 tracks.
Please don't listen to one song and stop.
Just fucking track one and just let it.
38 minutes.
Let it enter your body.
The gym was nice.
A phenomenal record.
I jam this.
I remember when it first came out.
I was really jamming it a lot.
And I got reminded last week and today.
Oh, this is.
I'm a jammed this in years.
and it's uh it's incredible uh seven angels seven plagues it's a record i can't pronounce so i'm
gonna need help from uh from jay it's like a it's it's a that one oh jasmine's lullaby jasmine's
it's a lot of bands a lot again going to shows dude talking to these kids i'm the creepy old
guy but i don't give a fuck i'm learning um are you unc maxing i i'm unk maxing dude
I'm honestly dude
I'm admit it
I'm pretty close to being an uncle
I'm probably two years away
um
so a lot of bands
young bands are jamming this record
I jammed it when I was in high school
um
what's uh
I think the the jam is track six
Danny Lion but again
just put the record on
um
really great siren
uh siren
siren siren
Siren breakdowns
like oh fucking sick dude that when this first came out it was it was a big hitter and uh oh yeah
