And now let's get to the podcast. All right, cool. Are we, uh, we just hop in this?
All right, cool. We're going. Good morning. Good afternoon. Good evening. Thank you for joining us,
as always. I always forgot to do this thing after fucking 230 of them.
Um, yeah, we're gonna, a little tease, we're gonna get into some guitar tone.
Last time I forgot my whole rig, but I rebuilt my rig.
And it's even, um, it's more, uh, more condensed.
So, uh, we'll be hopping and enter that soon.
Um, probably right after this.
What, what do we do?
What do we do?
Went to, uh, last time I said, I was going to, uh, uh, last time I said I was going to,
the Blasco
I did I saw Soulfly
A band name I keep seeing around
And I finally saw him was
King Parrot
Ever to King Parrot J? It's pretty sick
I keep seeing that band name around and I finally saw him
Pretty cool
It got to the show early
So they were sick and then Soulfly
Went on
Blascoe has this really cool upstairs
kind of balcony bar so I went there had some athletic as always athletic free wave and
Soulfly kicked into no hope no fear which I mean I'm horned up I mean you couldn't pick a
better song and I got really uh my heart began to fill with joy and I ran downstairs I saw
I saw a few songs and continued to
drink my beer
but it was a fucking sick show
shout out to John for getting me into the Guar show
um
it's cool Guar's fucking selling out places
that that podcast with Dirk was fun
um
really uh
happy that he was willing to
open up
about some stuff
kind of a few people got pissed
that I brought up Corey
I'm like, why not?
It's a really important topic
and I think it should be discussed
and it was quick too
It was like five fucking minutes
Really sad man
He died really sudden
I guess they were having a conversation
The night before
Talking about airplane cookies or something
Then went to bed on the bus
And never woke up
And they found out at the border
which is insane.
I can't even
I can't even imagine that.
It's already
it's already bad enough
when it's
when one of your best friends dies
and then it's like on the bus
at the border
and the border sucks.
It's a Canadian border.
So it's
couldn't be a worst case scenario
but it was really cool.
Shout out to a Dirk's
and also real quick dude
shout out to Max, dude.
looking good
looking good
brother
as someone that has been
overly chubby
and out of shape
any kind of weight loss
is really impressive and he looked good
man proud of you
the moment you start losing weight
it becomes
easier to headbang
which is really important
and he was rocking out
dude when that first song came on i was like okay if this was luckily it wasn't two months ago
because if that song came on and i was at that bar i would have proceeded to waste
um united states currency on uh alcohol to put it into my bloodstream at a very rapid unhealthy rate so uh cool
Pretty fucking cool
I enjoyed it
Went outside had the classic burrito
Street burrito
Always nice
Drove home
Again dude
It's just scary when you're tired
When you're tired
And driving
I knew like you know
I always know when I'm not gonna make it
I was like okay this is teetering
I'm exhausted
But I know for sure I'm gonna make it
You're just like
Trying so hard just to focus
this front of a podcast and hopefully just brings you home.
But yeah, they got home safe.
So what I've been doing lately, I got this, I got this at this point,
I mean, a few weeks ago.
I got a quad cortex mini.
And shout out to everyone at Neurl that watches and supports the podcast,
which is why they sent it here.
So I've been messing around with it.
I'm just, the first time I saw one was with Keon.
I'm sorry.
And I'm just in love.
I'm just like, I love my girlfriend and I love the quad cortex mini.
And it's just, it's the future, man.
This is, because Neuro came out with the, I'm sorry, the nano or the nanu?
yeah the nanocortex or nanocortex and i was like
it just didn't get me horned up and if i'm not horned up i'm not gonna
i'm not even gonna look at it and uh and yeah so
i wonder if they if neural learned from that lesson because it like the nano came out
and no one was really pumped on it but when the mini came out all right this is what
this is what the people want this is what i want
And, yeah, I got one.
You know, it was cool to see Kian with it.
And then when I finally got one in my hand, I was,
it's just mind-blowing how easy it is and how quickly you could get a sick guitar tone.
Like, the hardest part about the quad cortex, if you're like me, you're a hater or you're older or you're intimidated or the money.
Whatever, like the hardest part about neural DSP stuff is the first one is getting out of the box connecting it to the computer. Do you like the registration? I think when you buy a quad cortex, you get one free plugin. I believe that comes with the actual purchase. So you have plug it in. You get your username going like the password. I sign up for the cortex cloud, the whole thing.
Download the tone on the computer, then put it on the actual physical quad cortex.
That took me about an hour.
That was the most, by far, the most confusing part of this whole process.
And then once it was done and I have a tone on the thing, okay, then I, you know, then I went in.
Went in, I messed with some knobs.
I got a, I had a tone in less than 15 minutes and I really haven't touched it since.
I'm not a joke
I
I went by ear
which that first impression
tends to they just
it just sticks dude
and uh
that's what I would end up using live
here writing and here on the podcast
and it's also available on our Patreon
if if you want it so
when I opened up the uh the mini
it's like oh I put it on
the board
I literally turned it on
I signed it on
I signed in
no i turn it on
uh
sign into the Wi-Fi
signed into my personal account
and then
I just downloaded my preset and it was right there
it was done
less than five minutes I'm already
turning on I'm already
I'm rocking so
and then after that I've been kind of like
working my way around okay how do you
turn on the tuner how do you
uh
because there's
there's obviously a few things that are different about it.
You know,
a couple little differences with the knobs and stuff.
But once you're in there, like 15 minutes,
you know what you're doing.
And I don't know what I'm doing.
So I always use myself as a marker of getting things fast.
It's the,
it's like I had a,
it's like the,
I don't know, this is a good analogy or a good comparison,
but it was like,
it's like an iPhone app.
It's like if iPhone came out with the amp with the most with the sickest guitar tone
Currently on this rock, that's what this that's what this thing is like it's just
There and I messed around with it a little bit. Okay, you know, it's like you know, you know, adding my contacts
Downloading my social media downloading my space app on there, you know and it's like that it's just kind of getting
the only way around it a little bit
And once I did that I mean I'm
I'm all set. I set my scene and that's it. I had a under an hour, I would say. I'm ready to rock. I could take this thing anywhere and it's on my temple audio, which I bought with my own money. They don't sponsor the pod. And yeah, I haven't touched it since. Sounds awesome.
Yeah, it sounds sick. So my goal.
Just I want to demonstrate for you
I just want to show you what I did
And I'm gonna do my best
Um
Jay there's any dead dead air just kind of
So I'm gonna show you
How
I'm gonna put myself on the spot and try to recreate
My first
Moment with the uh
Quad cortex I'm actually gonna build a tone
in real time
So hopefully you enjoy it and hopefully this helps you
Because I'm just going to do what I did literally I'm just going to do what I did
And hopefully this this helps you
And it's I have my whole rig here
It's literally it's literally right here
All right
Okay let's uh
Put it on my lap here
And if you're just listening
I have my uh I have some glasses on and I can literally see what I'm seeing
Okay, so this is mine, my preset.
Okay, so I'm going to go into preset.
Okay, so we have a blank slate here.
Nothing.
So, let's see, I'm going to add a row, row three.
Boom.
I'm going to add right here.
I'm going to add my, I'm going to add an EQ.
EQ, boom, EQ.
I think I had the, which one I have.
Noise gate.
Let's see, utility, I believe it's the adaptive gate.
Boom.
Amp.
Let's get the amp going.
I should go to plugins.
I think I got Gojira hot, right?
Boom, okay.
So this should, in theory, and then also what I did.
Okay, so in the very, so behind the amp, I split the output.
Why?
Once going, as you see, a mic, XLR out is going into the mixer here, or it will go into your chosen interface or live.
It goes into, it goes into the PA and that's what you hear.
So I'm going to add a out right here
Should be 3-4
I'm going to add a cab right here
Boom boom
Let's see what was the recto
I forgot I forgot what I put
This is literally exactly what I did
I had no idea what I'm looking at
I've done this my whole career
I'm just kind of following my gut
You know what do I want?
Okay
standard oversized angle straight I'm gonna go with CA standard oversized straight
B 30s 90s that's probably that's exactly what I did show choose the out boom and then
there is so I believe the one two I believe the one two is actually um going into the
XLR and the out here will go into your power amp if you want stage
sound okay so so I think in theory so in theory I should have sound right I have sound
already okay so without me not knowing what that how I'm doing so let's see how it
sounds that's my that's not too easy I put a EQ okay so I have sound without
knowing what I'm doing this is exactly how this is what happened to me okay now
let's do a now let's add some beef okay I think
that's what we all want.
We want some beef.
Wait, let me take a quick sip of coffee.
I'm going to talk about my mug and in the podcast.
It's pretty horned up.
Quick sip.
Holy shit.
That's fucking, that's, that's, that's gasoline for your soul.
Okay.
So now we're going to beef it up.
Top row.
Let's do, uh, I did a tube screamer.
Because it just needs to be, it needs to be hot, you know?
I'm saying. And what was it? Was it the modulation? What was the overdrive, right?
And I believe it was a green 808. It's either green 808 or it's probably, okay, we're going to go with
the green 808. I'm sorry. Where am I? Okay, green way, boom. Okay. Now this is, okay,
now this is the secret. Let me show you a secret because I believe
You should give away secrets, but not the process.
So here's the secret.
Boom.
What are we at?
We're going to go to pitch, Polly Octaver, and you now know my secret.
So we're going to do dry.
We're going to turn up.
Boom.
And we're going to click sub.
So whatever you want to move, just touch it, just like an iPhone.
and then adjust the knob I'm gonna do 30% so adds a little bit of sub but it's a I call it a
subconscious sub where it's there but you don't really hear it but it adds an
unexplainable thing to it okay so we got a two screamer a sub and in the very
very front we're not gonna use it but in case you want to
I believe is it, I believe it's pitch correction.
I fucked up, I'm sorry.
Let's see.
Pitchifter.
Okay, perfect.
So this is if you want to change tuning, so I just like having it there.
But it's not really gonna do anything.
We'll turn it off for now.
Okay, so now we should have a little bit more beef.
Let's do a quick test.
So now we have the tube screamer, so it should be cranking now.
Okay, so a little bit more, right?
You see what the two scrimmer kind of adds like that, like, I don't know, that kind of bite, bark bite, you know?
All right, so we're...
This is why I did.
I don't know what I'm doing, but it's work.
Okay, now we're going to...
Okay, now we're going to really hone in on the sounds.
So let's see what the setting is with the tube screamer.
I mean, that's pretty, I mean, just a flat two-screamer, not bad.
Let's go to amp.
Gain.
You know I want my gain up, so we're going to do.
We're going to go from noon.
I'm going to say 7.5 is where we're at.
Base.
I want a lot more base, actually.
Let's do, let's do that.
Mids are tough.
Mids are tough to you because if you do scooped,
Sounds good, but you don't want to get lost in the mix.
We're going to do like a little bit.
Trouble, a little bit up, presence.
Again, not know what I'm doing.
The deaf is also a base, so I kind of want that.
I want to add some beef.
Okay, so this should be sick.
Let's see what the gate looks like.
Okay, we're going to put it up a little bit.
Boom, boom.
EQ, I think my EQ.
is let's take a quick look at my EQ real quick we're gonna let's okay saved actually
know what let's just not knowing what not knowing what we're doing let's do a
little let's do that nothing crazy just I like a little bit of highs maybe a little
bit more lows in here let's do that what's just we're just adding like we're right
We're fine tuning that the EQ is not your main tone. It's like let's just add what you want. Okay, so
All right, so we should have, I'm gonna save this saved. Now let's see what we got.
I have my head my little series so weeks. I could have some fun.
That's just get crazy because I'm having fun right now.
Yeah, I got my Alpha Wolf pedal here and a fuzz that I added.
So I think that's, I think you pretty much got it.
So yeah, that's exactly what I did.
I wonder how that's, I guess we won't really know until we put away these fucking glasses, dude.
So yeah, that's the, that's it.
That's it. We just made a tone.
And it's crazy how my whole rig right now I'm carrying it.
I'm showing you. This is literally what I'm going to carry to the airport.
I'm going to carry to a show. What's going?
I could sleep with this thing.
I could put it literally on my bed and it won't take up any room.
So lately I've been kind of carrying around my whole rig.
And it feels like it feels like I'm forgetting.
getting something because there's no way
I have everything
guitar here
amp here and I'm walking around
I'm forgetting something I'm fucking freaking out
like where the fuck
but I got everything
the whole rig is here
so hopefully that
hopefully that helped you
and I'm going to go to my actual
boom chug Norris
boom
sing
all right cool
so yeah that's what I've been doing
just messing around with the main tone
um
yeah hopefully that helps you hopefully uh
literally that's that's what I did the first time
I'm not really knowing what I'm doing
it's kind of moving around knobs following my
my gut and you have
you have a very usable
guitar tone in a matter of minutes
how long that take fucking
15 minutes or so
Cool
All right
Without going on a full-on rant
We need an update from Jay
The fuck the fuck's going on dude
Yeah
Chillin
Back at it
What can we say
It's horned up
Yeah it's horned up
You've been on any hikes lately
Not since the last check-in
No
Nah been hitting the gym though
Oh good
It's about it
It's jamming it
Jacking it
Yeah
Yeah
It's fucking
Editing these bitches
Yeah, last one was a BP one.
Oh, yeah.
Jay Weinberg was fucking two hours, 40 minutes.
Oh, yeah.
Of just straight drummer.
Just a drummer.
It was like the Joe Dirt story, the journey.
Oh, yeah.
Two hours.
I love hearing about the journeys, man.
It's cool.
Well, without wasting any time,
let's maybe hop into two questions
since we're already
I always
trying to make these things quick and I always fail
but I'm going to really lean in
okay so
this is from our actual
our Patreon and Discord
Jake can you help me pronounce the name
Crows
Crows okay nice
As a guitar player
Do you care much about
What your singer's lyrics are about
As you've grown older
has that changed at all?
Has there ever been lyrics you had an issue with?
Okay, so no, because I've always been hands off of lyrics.
I've always trusted Mitch.
That's his job.
My job's at rifts.
It's really hard to have an issue with them when,
oh, yeah, what was I thinking?
I mean, when you're talking about, like,
where is your guy?
God, I never questioned it.
Or, uh, no pity for a coward.
Uh, on the pull the trigger bitch.
You know, like, I guess, I don't know.
There is, there's a lot of ignorance there, for sure.
Like, I don't know.
I always trusted them.
I always trusted like the lyrics.
Um, never had an issue Eddie the same.
Like, you know, you, you take the rain.
Uh, I might talk about something people don't like, but it's just a fact.
Um, if you don't believe me, go to a show or just catch yourself when you're listening to songs.
But, uh, a lot of times you, you might sing lyrics and might not even know the lyrics, the right lyrics, or might not know what they're about.
It's so, to me, I'm like, what is that? Um, like, it doesn't really matter what the song's about. It's like this. It's more, it's more about, like, the melody.
Like, like a certain pattern. And, uh, and, uh, and you'll, like, it doesn't really matter what the song's about it's like this. It's more, it's more about like the melody.
see behind the scenes of how singers
will do it, they'll write the pattern
first. And then they'll literally
throw lyrics on top of it.
And obviously some
songs, you know, some have a deeper meaning,
but some really don't.
Like those
ignorant ones, you really don't know
what it's about, kind of stick.
I'm almost like, what is that?
Where it transcends
the actual words,
where it's more about
the pattern. And then
where the pattern came from, right?
So, uh,
I'm,
I've done this many times where like,
I love this song, dude.
Like,
I don't even know what he's saying.
And then I won't say what band is because it's one of my favorite fucking bands.
And then,
uh,
I'll kind of like read along,
you know,
sometimes you read along and it hits you harder.
But sometimes you read the lyrics and it,
it doesn't ruin the song for you,
but it loses, I guess, what it had
when you ignorantly kind of followed the song.
But, uh...

Yes?
Good.
This is for you.
Because on Spotify, there's an audience that's different.
Locked in.
Loyal, invested.
They're called fans.
Fans don't just listen to music.
They feel seen by it, like it belongs to them.
So when your brand shows up on Spotify, that's who you're talking to.
And you're right next to artists like me, Lizzo.
So, are you ready to talk to fans?
Spotify advertising.
You're among fans.
Excuse me while I kiss the sky.
Yeah, I mean, it's more about the pattern.
And trusting what the pattern is more important than what's being said.
And I think if you actually really listen and kind of catch yourself,
it's that it's more about the memorable pattern as opposed to the actual lyrics you know who knows what
these songs are about you know it could be something completely different from the actual artists
themselves and then it has a different meaning to you the listener or you watching a band so i'm always like
yeah what is that but you could all kind of follow the pattern when when when everyone at a
show can be in sync and follow a certain cadence or words, that kind of simple pattern.
I'm like, man, what is that?
And it's some bullshit lyric, you know, I mean, people sing about, you know, for us, it's like,
where is your God, where's your fucking God?
People sing that along, but it's, but Mitch had this simple cadence, like the simple pattern
that, you know, you could, like your primal self could just kind of lock in.
So again, it's one of the many mysteries
We'll always talk about out here
What is that I don't I do not know
I could try to understand it
And I could talk about it and share my thoughts with you about it
But where does that pattern come from?
I don't know but yes so
And then you say as
As you've grown older
So that even it's even more like damn
I don't fucking know what the hell
I don't know where lyrics come from
or or or the patterns like i don't know um and also you never had an issue with the lyrics themselves
to me i mean there's nothing there's nothing that you can't talk about you know art should
should have freedom you should be able to discuss whatever you want want to talk about or express
so weird yeah i never really thought about that never had an issue you know mitch was seeing all
crazy shit.
I never really had a...
I didn't even thought about it.
Like, never until right now.
It's crazy.
Very good older.
It's a mystery.
Where did the songs come from?
And it'll be one of those mysterious things.
But yeah, man, thank you for your question.
And thank you for being so active on the Discord.
Appreciate you, brother.
Next one.
Horned up, dude.
Oh, yeah.
All right.
Buddha 1619.
Does your neck hurt after a show from all the headbanging?
You do.
Oh, yeah.
It's funny.
This is actually,
this has evolved in a very strange way.
Because we call them bangovers.
And it's like,
it's the first like two to three nights where like you headbang and things.
and then you're just sore as fuck
the next like few days
so we
we would call those like a bang over
it's like your
your neck's hurting
this side of your neck
um
the older you get it's uh your legs
um
the
the lower back is really scary
sometimes that gets
uh sore
and then there's things that you have to do
like uh you know
just boring
stuff do like um the gym helps the gym yoga all that stuff really um keeps the body and uh head banging
uh head bang ready like those things really keep the body just ready to head bang whenever that
that comes and uh after that slaughter show i had a bang over the next day but it was weird like it was
was um i i don't know this is a concern but uh it was like i just felt fuzzy the whole day or for two
days i felt fuzzy like the brain was just like because you just because your your head banging so
you're just fucking throwing your fucking brain around your fucking skull i remember the next day
i was like well i woke up like kind of i felt like i was hung over like a little bit like it had that
that brain fog which is strange i was like hmm i'm
wonder what this is this is new so we'll see how that evolves in time when there's more shows and uh
more shows and tours but uh yeah that was a that was different dude that was really different
it's like i was hung over but not from alcohol it's like i think the brain could have handled like the
physical force i always tell people i can't help it headbang it's like i don't even i don't move
Like once the door opens
And he let the demons out
They they fucking dictate
The way the music
It's all about the music
Like the music kind of dictates how you move
Man I wonder how this is going to evolve
Oh this
Fuzzy
I felt a little bit dumb
Throughout the day
But uh
I wonder where that's going
I haven't about that until
I do have a have a secret too
Like I'm going to
Oh no fuck
This is the worst thing you do in a podcast
I can't tell you what I'm going to do
Okay
I'm going to do some kind of
I'm going to cover some kind of
I'm going to get someone in a medical field of
involved
Like I'm going to see what a head banging does to
Your brain
That's kind of
have been on my mind for a while kind of to do and then you know make like a video out of it
and post it um so someone you see someone else post that they stole it from here so fuck
them but yeah that's kind of one i'm curious at what it actually does to your brain like headbangs
so like excessively like that can't be good for your for your brain but uh or is it who knows i mean
i wonder what the studies will come back with so that's kind of been on my mind for a while like
kind of getting like the science behind what uh what head banging does to your mind and
it has to be it but it has to be good for your body though because you're like
because you're moving and you're expressing yourself and you're letting go so there is
something to be said about that uh emotionally and physically so uh yeah it's always i'm what that's
always kind of i've always been curious about that
how what
what uh
is people have touched on it but no one has
really fucking like dove into the subject
I know yeah I remember this
this case
I forgot who wrote it
and it's cool because they uh
there's like this
there's this one article that came out in 2014
and they took a picture of mark
uh
put it up there
uh
what was like the consensus
of this article
I forgot.
That it can cause like blood clots.
Blood clots.
Neck spine.
Oh yeah.
Dave Mustaine.
Hmm.
Amariah.
Age, I guess, over time.
Age, yeah.
It's just, it's, um, it's, that the reason why I question this stuff is that like they,
nothing against Dave Mustain.
or Tomari or like even Corey Taylor I think he had some but uh it's like these guys
didn't take care of their bodies right so naturally you don't take care of your body
something's going to give at some point um mood my ice my whole workout is dedicated to me
head banging like okay this is like okay I do this because this is I mean I talked about a few
weeks uh about about a month ago right on here where you know this serves this is best for your
body to be mobile for either head banging or anything that you're doing. It's like I'm all about
strengthening like the neck, the back, like the lower back, um, eating right to keep the brain
healthy. Um, but you know, I mean, but more power to these guys, they didn't really have like
the information like I have more. I got in the yoga like late 20s, early 30s. And it wasn't like this was like
right when the self-help thing
really started to like develop
so uh I had that
I had that advantage
where it's very new
it's still it's still new
um and these older guys
90s really 80s
too really didn't have that
um
you know maybe
maybe I'm the guy to fucking do this study
and I'll just start fucking head banging
to his hardest fuck with these
what are those things called
that uh that are that connect to your fucking
mind
there's like these little
sticky things
those are the EKGs
yeah those fucking
I put them
yeah
they like
monitors what's
what's happening
I put it on my neck
I'll put it on my
on my brain
I'll put one on my dick
just see
just to get the full spectrum
you know
um
dude we went on
we went on a fucking tangent
head banging tangent
dude holy shit
hell yeah
I think we could squeeze in one more question, right?
Let's do one more.
Okay, yeah, I'll make this quick.
Oh, shit, Jay.
Sounds like a random.
Wazeby.
Waysby.
Yep.
Waysby 7450.
Hey, mate.
Oh, regards from New Zealand.
That's a horrible New Zealand accent.
I apologize.
Do you have plans to interview any?
other old school death metal artists
in the near future
yeah I try to get
the OGs in here
just out of respect
and out of curiosity
I remember
when we had Glenn Benton in here
that was kind of like
the first time we had like an old school
deaf mental guy
and then that episode
just fucking took off
and
I for better or for worse
I do this thing where
if something happens to the podcast
and it gets views
I stop doing it
because I don't want to
or I made a new thumbnail yet
yesterday I had a little bit of spare time
where
without going into a rant
we're like okay like this did really well
then
okay I don't want to keep doing this
because I don't want to put myself into a corner.
Same with the death core thing.
I don't want to interview only death core bands
and just kind of go like so niche
where it's like I kind of want to keep it more
like I want to talk to everybody essentially.
But when the time is right, you know,
like we'll bring someone in.
Like we had Travis Ryan in here.
We had Paul Ledney.
He's an old school cat.
We had we just had
incantation. So, so when like the time is right, um, again, like, I only bring people in here that
I want to talk to you. I have to be interested. If it's, so, so, so that's why when you look at,
like, like, the roster, it's kind of, it's kind of all over place because I don't like to
kind of go all in on a certain genre. And for some reason, uh, like the deaf mental cats,
like these old school guys,
whenever they come on here,
it does really well.
So I don't like
banking on that.
I don't know.
I think people like the contrast
of me and like a deaf metal
black metal guests.
There's such a contrast there
where
what's happening is a deaf mental
legend is talking to like a death core guy,
which back in a day is a big,
big no-no.
And the
definite scene
does not fuck
with death
course still
I'm noticed
but I think
it's just
just a
contrast I think
something fresh
I personally
have a fresh
perspective
um
I just want to hear
hear what the hell
is going on back then
I don't fucking know
I was born in 85
um
I don't start listening
to heavy music
till 98
so
it's cool to
this is cool to hear stories you know we're we're here to hear the stories but yeah i just try not to
like lock in like something that's working and so hey this is working this is cool but let's do
this now let's talk like like a metal core person or like a death core band or let's go back to death metal
okay now let's talk to tsunami or something you know it's just like i like that kind of
because i don't want to get lost in like the views or or stuff like that i had to be interested and then like
okay, then you have all these newer artists coming up.
So you got to shed light on a new artist coming up
that are fucking killing it.
And then again, like the, I like this,
like bouncing around.
Okay, fucking old school, new school, new band, hype, heavy.
Then once in one, I have some,
somewhere random, like little darky, you know?
I kind of like that.
Just the contrast.
So yeah, I really appreciate your question, man.
I think we're ready for some
I think we're ready for some news
In case you're
Okay, so already this is fucking working
Again
It's not a sponsor but I've had this ember mug
For years and it keeps your coffee warm
And I don't know if you noticed but
I remember that there's a guess here
I'm like sucking down coffee
When it looks like it looks really weird
Because coffee I don't like drinking coffee cold
I fucking hate it
But this thing keeps your coffee warm.
We're almost an hour in and it's still fucking piping hot.
Dude, it's fucking, this is, this is sick.
I don't know why, I don't know why don't use it so much.
This is fucking badass, dude.
Yeah, this is it.
Amber mug, too.
About $100.
If you want to keep your coffee warm, it's badass.
I'm using it right now.
Again, it's not a sponsor.
It's just a really a badass product.
Because you're curious when I'm drinking, it's straight up black coffee, black coffee.
Look, it's still steaming.
And it's almost been an hour.
That's fucking crazy, dude.
I have a little charger right here.
It's my fucking power station.
So that solves this problem.
Wow.
I'm gonna start doing that.
It just looks weird.
I'm trying to connect with the gas.
I'm sucking down coffee in a fucking weird way.
So that solves that problem.
Before we hop into some news,
oh shit, I almost forgot.
I was going to bounce around.
a little bit.
So from the last solo episode,
I actually
I signed up
or joined signed up,
joined,
my first Patreon.
I don't even know what happened.
It was like
I found a
guitar player
and
10 minutes later
I'm spending money on his Patreon.
And then I paid
and I was like, I went outside here.
I went outside the patio.
What, what the fuck just happened?
I was on TikTok.
And TikTok again is my favorite Algo, as the kids say.
And this, I think he's a kid, probably 20s.
And it was like, it was like the sickest acoustic riff ever.
And I was like, oh, like the moment I turned on my phone on, went on TikTok.
and then boom I got hit with this like
this classical
guitar wave of emotion
and uh
it caught me
the first second you see it's
it's just this a good example of like you only have one second
one and two seconds and he hooked me
so uh
yeah j can we play this one one riff can we crank it for like
it's part of the it's probably the full riff
that's fucking
dude it's it's
it reminded me of
of like incubus, make yourself era.
And I was hooked.
And then I went on TikTok.
I found his Instagram,
which is what we have on now.
If you're curious,
his Instagram is,
Jay, correct me, if I'm wrong,
Acoustin?
Yeah,
acoustic.
I want to say he's being probably Austin,
probably.
But he basically put a,
I, N, or N at an acoustic.
So Acoustin, too,
on Instagram.
It says full of these
short, sick acoustic riffs.
Most are on a classical
and others are on an actual
acoustic and his
his
pull-offs
and his
voicings are just like, I haven't
heard anything like it.
And then, okay, so that sparked some curiosity.
And I found his
YouTube.
And, uh, hey, Jay, go, go to his bio. And this is what sold me, actually. So his bio is pretty similar to his Instagram and his, uh, his YouTube. So it says, subscribe to my Patreon for tutorials and tabs. Or to support me and help me keep my student debt under control. So it sounds like, well, should I have been like so many followers he has to 298,000? Fuck. Um, so yes, I saw, he's, yeah, he's, yeah, he's, yeah.
he's probably a kid in his 20s.
I probably has a crazy student debt
like a lot of young people do.
And yeah, I got hooked, man.
So,
so that, before I know it,
I'm on his Patreon.
And I got the $5 tier.
And I was like,
holy shit, I just spent money. And I have no idea
how the hell has happened.
So I leave here.
I'm on the freeway.
And then he has a,
he has a Spotify and
he
how do you explain this
I think I found like
five or
like five or six records
or something and
yeah
he has 18,000 followers
go to albums Jay
and I'm going to see how many albums he has
go to show up
one two three four five six seven because he has seven records but the records are eight to twelve minutes long
and i think it's such a cool idea because it's just a mood the mood is the song title like still fine
saddle dust um perfect groove dust and rain uh just um it gets better i'm sorry i love you um
man it touches my heart and uh yeah the more like just emotion song titles but the songs are
34 seconds 44 seconds so it's just riffs and i thought that was such a cool concept um
he'll put like fucking 12 riffs on on a record and the records eight to 12 minutes long i'm like
that's a fucking that's cool i think that's really innovative and uh yeah i just i just
want to give him a
I mean
we gave him a
fucking shout out
we gave him
a whole
fucking free ad
uh
for his Patreon
but uh
I don't realize
he has so many followers
but yeah
he has all these sick riffs
um
so if you
uh
if in a mood
for something different
uh check him out
um
acoustic too on Instagram
and uh
it's a Patreon
YouTube
Spotify
I found him on TikTok
pretty sick
but I was like
damn
How to like, wow, I just fucking, I spent money.
And he fucking got, he just, that riff just, it shows the power of music, man.
Like, the moment you started playing, like he, he got access.
He got access to my heart in less than two seconds.
Boom, I was locked in.
And, uh, really impressive.
So, uh, shout out, man.
And, uh, good luck with your, uh, student debt.
know a lot of people struggle with that and uh for a lot of people it's crippling and um what is it j like
like student debt is like the one thing that you can't declare bankruptcy on or or something or something
uh like you can't um like you can't get rid of it which is wild um i've never had student debt before
I went to community college
for one year
and I did nothing
and I dropped out
that's tough dude
what's the average student debt
what's the what's like the average
um
I'm just curious on the average
okay
according to an AI
overview the average student loan debt
for federal
borrowers
uh in the US
is approximately
39,000 to 40,000
to 40,
$2,000 including private loans as of early
2006. Wow. Wow.
Well, over $3.6 million or more than $100,000.
Wow.
Barrow was often pay around $227 to $450 monthly depending on their total debt.
Wow. It's like, it's like more than a car payment a month.
Like, like, a hundred grand.
Oh, dude, you could have bought a fucking, dude, you could have bought a fucking Ferrari or something.
Like, you, you, you could have bought a pussy magnet with that money.
Fuck.
That's heartbreaking, man.
That's a lot of, a hundred grand in debt, dude.
Holy.
Man, it's rough.
So, yeah, it's cool.
It's cool that we could help someone take care of that.
And I was like, I remember I was driving, listening on Spotify.
I was just like, this is cool.
Just keep giving me riffs, man.
Just give me some riffs.
I love it.
And cool.
Next, next news thing.
I was listening to...
Actually, let's just react to this first.
Yeah, right.
So I found a clip, and I thought it was funny,
and I want to all...
What the hell do you, honestly,
if you hear this,
This is a clip of Jeremy, the singer of a day to remember, singing at a festival, but it sounds like he's saying something else.
That's obviously not the lyrics. Or it could be lyrics. Who knows? We're talking about lyrics earlier.
But if you hear this, what do you think he's saying here?
Let's fucking crank it a little, a little bit. Yeah.
Okay, first of all, shout out to the jeans.
Do I haven't, I haven't rolled up my jeans.
since I was in elementary school.
So more power to you, brother.
I am your bacon boy.
It sounds like you're saying I am your bacon boy.
I am your bacon boy.
Dude, sometimes the internet is cool sometimes.
It sounds like it, though.
I wonder what he's actually saying, though.
I am your bacon boy.
He's pretty hard.
It's pretty sick.
Yeah, what, I wonder what song is.
I'm sorry, I'm not like a fan or a listener
to a datarian members, I don't really know what
fuck, we're kind of in a
the new, fuck.
Hey y'all, it's Kelly Clarkson
with Wayfair. Ever order furniture online
and wonder, what if? Like, what if it doesn't hold up?
That sofa was four days old.
You should have ordered from Wayfair. With Wayfair, there's no
what if. Just style you love and quality you can
trust. Visit Wayfair.com.
Wayfair, every style, every home.
Fuck, we can't find
a song in title. I'm sorry.
Fuck.
But if you're curious, you'll probably find it.
And there's fucking 400 comments.
It's fucking hard to...
I am your bacon boy.
Yeah, pretty sick.
Man, the theme of this has been a lot of lyric talk.
Do we find it?
Oh, I am your breaking point.
I'm still in your head.
I'm still in your head.
I am your breaking point.
The song is called paranoia, if you're curious.
And it came out in 2016.
I am your breaking point.
I am your bacon boy.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
What the, it's like, what the fuck you see?
saying. What are you saying, dude? I'm saying I'm, dude, I, I just want to be your baking boy.
Talk about universal, uh, meanings there. Well, speaking in lyrics again, um, was jamming the new
machine guy Kelly song. And that shit was, okay. What are we about to talk about right now, man?
Is, I will say you have to be either a fan of his.
or a numidal fan
unless you're just going to listen to it and be a fucking hater
for no reason.
But as a new metal guy
person, it is a banger.
And I was like,
okay, there's...
Okay, first of all,
Machine and Kelly is successful.
There's something we could do or say to take that away from him.
But when you get fed durst on a track that says
uh...
Well, uh,
actually go a little bit sooner
in Song J, the lyrics come up.
If you get Fed Jueres to say,
shut the fuck up on a track,
I mean,
if you get Fred Juris on a track to say,
shut the fuck up,
I mean,
that's just a level of making it
as a numidal fan.
That's just like,
I can't hate on that.
You got Fred Jurors to say,
shut the fuck up on a track.
But yeah, I mean, if you're a numidal fan,
Um,
I did listen to the song.
I actually watched a video and listened at the same time.
Because I just wanted to see like what the vibe was.
Um,
but I did go into it as a new metal fan.
So.
And the chorus is catchy.
You know,
when you turn off a song and you're walking away and like the chorus still in your head.
All across the world across the world.
I know you feel this shit.
See, I,
I've even heard the song in 24 hours.
I still don't the chorus.
But yeah, if you're a fan of new metal,
I mean, just fucking check it out, dude.
Don't be a hater, dude.
But if you don't like new metal,
you're gonna fucking hate it.
It's just, I mean,
the most new metal rift you could possibly have.
I did,
right before I did,
I turned the track on,
I paused myself a little bit.
because a little bit of a little bit of my hater side came out because and it's nothing like
sometimes you got to catch yourself which I'm guilty of and I caught myself this time I'm
listen to this open-mindedly why because people get kind of pissed if you're like when you
genre hop right a lot of people don't don't like that but uh but it's
If you're in my position and just had this conversation with Jack from Slaughter, too, like, I can't hate that.
Like, because the more people that find out about new metal or heavy music, that is literally how I'm going to have a career.
The more people find out about it, the more people eventually will find suicide silence.
And it's always a constant flow of new people finding out about, um,
your music. It never stops.
I'm 40 fucking years old.
The band's been around for years, decades,
and still it's like a new wave of people.
And I think it's not just one thing.
I think this is a multiple,
I think it's multiple things always happening at once,
whether it's, um,
I meet these parents at shows and like,
they're,
they have a baby and they're jamming metal and in their car.
Okay, that's, that's something.
Meishion and Kelly comes out with this track called
Fix Your Face, which is dedicated to Ernie.
He needs to fix his face.
And there's nothing that he can do about it.
But this is something.
So that's going to add to the pot.
Again, we're talking about TikTok.
People find out music from TikTok.
Chloe Kardashian is wearing a black metal shirt, and people are pissed.
And I'm like, but that adds to the pot.
I think it's just all.
I don't think this is one.
I think it's just all like things are just happening.
And that gives bands,
that gives people like me that play heavy music for a living
as a source,
as a big source of income,
if not the main source of income.
Oh shit,
I could,
like,
I could support my family doing this.
So it's why I,
when people get pissed about the shirt
or about culture,
And there's a while where everyone wanted death metal logos.
Like everything that made my band special or death metal band special is just like everyone just took it.
And video games are having like death metal logos.
But you can't get mad at that because that actually will give more exposure to all your favorite bands, which, you know, do you want your favorite bands to be fucking broken and just sad?
Oh, you want to, you want them to have a fighting shot.
so yeah
it comes
I mean I'll admit
you know
it's like
this is buried in there
it's just like
it's just there
and something will
fucking tickle it
oh shit
hater
hater mo's coming up
but but you always
you gotta catch yourself
and then uh
it's sick
whatever
um
puts heavy music on a map
I'm all
I'm all about
uh
can't hate
again I can't hate on it
because
it's gonna give
people like me
career. So
you know, the bigger the shit gets,
uh,
more potential money
will come into my pocket
in a healthy way. And I won't spend it
I won't spend it on alcohol and cocaine
anymore. So
but yeah, if you're
again, if you're a fan, uh, check out the song. It's dope.
It's dope of your innumerable fan
or if you have an open mind.
But if you're a hater, oh, you're just gonna fucking, you're just gonna hate it.
You're just gonna fucking hate it.
But yeah, check it out.
I think we got everything.
Jaded, did I miss anything?
I think you, I, oh, yeah.
Pretty cool show guy announced, Slare, Canama Corpse, Crowbar at the fucking forum.
I'll be there
I think
Depends what
I think it's in November right
Oh yep
November 13th November 14
Because the first one sold out
And uh wow
That's fucking sick
Dude
There's one more
Oh yeah
And uh
A couple of their conspiracy
All right
I gotta do it
It's my bite me any ass
But I gotta do it
I've been trying to get Max
in here for years.
I talked to him in person
a few years ago.
You'd like, I want to do it.
But it's so hard to get people actually in here.
Again, it's all timing.
The man, Max, I would love
to have you in here.
I think it'll be a great conversation.
You know, I swing.
I swing all the time.
I don't hit a home run every time and I miss.
And sometimes I might bomb episode.
But most of the time, the conversation is great.
And it tends to be their best conversation on the internet.
So that's obviously with Max.
I would put my heart and soul into it.
Straight up more than anybody else would.
So that's a flex.
I love Max.
And I love,
I remember hearing,
I remember hearing roots on the radio.
And that's,
yeah,
again,
one of those long lists of songs,
that's why I'm here.
You know,
I love Max.
And I would just,
again,
I would swing.
It's like I always do.
Put my heart and soul into it.
So maybe I should go to the show and stock them.
It's kind of,
do I've learned a lot,
man,
of just being in the room.
I just being there and having FaceTime.
I learned a lot.
lot about that.
I was going to try to see him at the show, but again, like, it's like, I'm going to bed.
Fuck, dude, I'm going to bed right now.
I'm going to home.
So, yeah, I know myself.
Sometimes I could push it.
Sometimes you can push it, but sometimes you can't.
Sometimes it is a case where don't be a bitch.
Stay up.
Other times, dude, you don't got it in a tank.
So I learned that by myself.
Damn, they're putting Slayer lights all over the place or what?
That's sick.
Real quick, this is a good way to close it.
The Slayer ever say that they were done playing shows?
I don't think they ever said that.
Because I remember when they announced their last tours,
to me, I was like, oh, they're not going to break up.
They're just not torn anymore.
but everyone was freaking out like oh this is the last LA show we got to go I'm like did
they ever say that I don't think they ever did it's like we're going to do a farewell tour
which means not touring but it's still going to play shows yeah farewell tour means nothing
I don't think they ever said they were going to break up or they're going to have a last show
I don't think they ever said that but I'm curious did they uh did they ever fucking say that
if you do some digging I don't think they ever fucking say that if you do some digging I don't think they
ever said they're done, which is a smart way for bands to do it.
Like, Torn and playing shows are two different things, dude.
I was straight up with you, Torn sucks.
On the older I get, I do not enjoy touring anymore.
The only thing I love is the actual show part.
That's still sick.
And then meeting people in person.
Whether it's at dinner, I'm at a restaurant across the street from a venue or after the show.
So that's cool.
If it's not that, I do not enjoy it.
It's not a time to travel.
It's not a time to sightsee.
You're just waiting.
A lot of wasted time.
It's really hard on your body just straight up.
It's just not.
I'm coming from me where I try to do my best to take care of my body, my mind.
It's hard out there, man.
Away from my lady.
That shit fucking sucks.
I don't like it.
So I mean,
whenever someone announces a final tour,
I'm like,
about time.
Who fucking wants to do that?
But it's the main,
it's the main money maker.
And,
uh,
for you into older,
the guarantees go higher
and then you sell more merch
and,
um,
you got to do it.
Um,
again,
I don't think,
I mean,
correct me if I'm wrong.
If you find something,
because I remember when they announced all these tours,
I'm like,
I never like,
oh,
like,
I'm not going to go to,
show. They're going to come, they're even back in a few years. And, I mean, and they're back in
LA. This, this, but that was my personal thought. Um, yeah, who fucking wants a tour? And if they,
if they, if they could be a band and not tour, just hop on some shows. I mean, why not, dude?
Two shows, two shows, two shows in a weekend. That's, I mean, that is, that is the dream.
That's what you want to do. That's fucking, that's fucking badass.
I mean, I will hope I'll get to that point where I could just fucking not tour and this.
Let's do, uh, let's do a LA.
We're gonna do it this weekend.
Next weekend, maybe we'll go to like, I don't know, we'll go.
They're going to like Minneapolis, right?
Or, fuck.
Michigan, I think, somewhere.
Um, let's do like two weekends and boom.
Still out of merch.
Man, that's the, that's the dream, dude.
That'll be fucking badass.
But yeah, I think I'm going to.
to go to the shows. If I'm, uh, oh, wait, I'm not going. Never mind. You can't see why yet. But, uh,
maybe I might have to, I know, I'm going to be out of town. Maybe I'll fly in. We'll,
we'll see. All right. Well, this was a freaking heater, dude. I try to, I try to keep this one,
uh, condensed. Um, let's see. I'll be at the, where, what am I'm going to be at? I'll be at. I'll be at
Shadow of Intent show
with Angel
Maker. It'll be Friday, May 1st.
That's at the Observatory. I'll be there
hanging.
I'll buy you a beer.
If I see ya.
Shit, I'm going to show us this weekend,
but the episode will be out. Who else is on
this tour, actually?
Mental cruelty is on it.
Oh, how do you say? Mental
cruelty?
Jesus, Garza.
Take some fucking English lessons, man.
And then what's the first band?
I can't pronounce it.
This is one.
Senestia.
Shout out to Byron from Crown Magratar.
