Starting point is 00:00:22 free of charge. BetMGM operates pursuant to an operating agreement with Eye Gaming, Ontario. All right, good morning, good evening. Good afternoon. Doing a quick little check in here. Man, the week just flies by. It's been almost a month since we've done one of these and you kind of forget how to do it.
Starting point is 00:01:02 Let's see. I guess it's a big deal, but not at the same time. Last Saturday was, I hit my goal. I just want to share it with all you. It's bringing you into my my world. You know, I spoke about it a little bit that I stopped drinking alcohol, being drunk and buzzed. And the goal was three months. And I want to ask Jay and all you guys, how long is a month?
Starting point is 00:01:39 Is it 28 days? Is it four weeks or is it 30 days? Probably 30 days, right? It's kind of like the If you average it, the 31 days and then the 28 Probably 30 days, huh? 30 days, like a good marker. Cool.
Starting point is 00:01:54 All right, so I went, okay, let's just make this 90 days. And yeah, that was last Saturday. 90 days. I don't know how I should say this, but it was pretty easy. I am enjoying it. Three months sounds doable. but for some reason when you say 90 days it's like holy crap 90 days that's that's a lot of days
Starting point is 00:02:23 but uh it's only three months so kind of like a weird psychological thing there um that maybe helped me without me even knowing but i i had a goal knowing that okay once it hits now what now what's the because I remember the day before I saw you I think I think it was March 8th Sunday March 8th was the first day and then someone asked me what does that mean like do you mean you're not going to smoke either
Starting point is 00:03:05 I was like thought about all shit I didn't really think about that yeah so March real quick March 8th June 6 Saturday, June 6 was my celebration. I'm already doing sidebars, but I did it. My celebratory was Sunday the 7th and I had a
Starting point is 00:03:27 cupcake with my lady at Starbucks. It's actually called a celebration cupcake. So I had a cupcake to celebrate. It's weird actually.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Now that I think about it, celebrating is kind of, I'm trying to find a picture. Because this cupcake, I want to show the world, this cupcake, is called Celebration Cupcake. I guess he can't, oh, man, maybe it might be actually this particular, oh, actually, I think I saw it. Yeah, it's actually the one, right, right, that one. No, right, right, that one. That's the cupcake. Just that, just that, oh, it was moist. when you have a moist cupcake
Starting point is 00:04:22 it's just wet oh yeah so that's been my new it's kind of like an inside joke the past month I'm like man that's like that's wet it can mean anything it mean like you're horned up
Starting point is 00:04:39 you're horny or like it's really good uh that's sick it's kind of like uh I've I've been saying that I've been saying that to Ernie a lot like Ernie I'm fucking wet But it is that the cupcakes wet, dude It's just like moist
Starting point is 00:04:53 When it's like When the pastry is like moist It's like oh it tastes so good And it's funny like celebrating something I'm like normally I mean me and Jay would do all the time We'll fucking go out have a beer I was okay
Starting point is 00:05:09 Okay I'm sitting down The goal was accomplished Now what? How am I going to celebrate? Okay Let's get a cupcake. Um, so that was cool. That was a new experience.
Starting point is 00:05:25 And then we went to BJ's, BJ's brewhouse. And they had like the sampler platter because he wanted everything. It's like that little hamburger sliders and, um, some mozzarella sticks. It's hard word to say. I call them cheese sticks, but also not trying to be proper here.
Starting point is 00:05:46 Um, some guacamole. Yeah, that's the, exact platter I had. And that was the celebration platter. Got a non-acoholic beer as always. I think BJ's has only Heineken Zero, if I'm not mistaken.
Starting point is 00:06:06 And that was it. And then I went home and proceeded to watch a lot of trash TV. Which is basically, I think no one will watch. right now is Love Island or something. Like, you know, when like the couples go on Ireland and then they cheat on each other. That's, yeah. And they, like, do overdubs. Yeah, it's something like that.
Starting point is 00:06:31 So that was, that was the celebratory weekend. So, yeah, again, just trying to bring you into the world. So the first day, I remember the first day we talked about it, I was very surprised on the reaction from from people like it's like okay is this too personal it's just like oh no people like watch this thing because they want to see bands and music and chugging and getting wet and you know but it's like fuck it i'll do a little experiment it's my personal life this is this this what i'm doing and it's a very surprise in the reaction to how many people watch shows and how many people how many of you don't drink uh very very surprised in their reaction um so yes just want to give a
Starting point is 00:07:25 just want to bring people in and so yeah now i started thinking about the future um the future uh am reflecting what the hell has happened a lot of mental clarity my problem solving skills as far as thinking how do you solve a problem has I mean it's not even I can't even compare it's it's being a lot easier to solve problems
Starting point is 00:08:02 this the brain processing power my RAM my mental RAM it's way quicker again I can't it's just it's like a different person because I like to listen to people
Starting point is 00:08:23 and process what they're saying and I know people say that I have like a dumb look on my face but that makes me sad I actually thought about that this morning like actually makes me sad because that's how people look when they're listening to you like when someone listens to you and actually it's like processing
Starting point is 00:08:45 like okay okay like thinking like oh huh okay cool like people have a certain look on their face when we're actually listening to the words that you're saying and caring about you and not thinking about what they're going to say next they're like oh do think about it it gets in their brain they process it and then they do their best to give the answer so uh obviously doing this is it needs to be it needs to be uh presentable and uh that reaction time it's getting it's way quicker.
Starting point is 00:09:20 I mean, I just can't. I can't even compare. I definitely notice it. So that fucking helped me, dude. Like, all of these things helped me, I guess, kind of stay on track because the results were very immediate.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Lady says I'm uploaded. My eyes are clear, she says, which she's happy. I'm fucking stoked. and the pod feels like it's getting better. I'm having fun. I want to say I'm saving money. I'm definitely saving money.
Starting point is 00:10:01 I have been doing a habit where if I go to show and I'm at the bar, I order the drink. Okay, I get my athletic. I'm my sponsor. Yeah, athletic. Come on, baby. I will push your beer. for some reason I'm like
Starting point is 00:10:23 I don't know like when you're at the bar you're present I'm like I haven't I have been tipping more I don't know why I'm doing that it's like a sober thing I don't know
Starting point is 00:10:34 so I'm saving a little bit of money I'm still spending money at the bar still buying people drinks I don't know I'm happy I don't hey you want I guess I'm trying to live through
Starting point is 00:10:47 some people I've been meeting you know maybe I don't know I kind of get that now. But yeah, it made everything easier. Getting the immediate results. The not bloated is super nice. So yeah, again,
Starting point is 00:11:03 again, I'm just going to sidebar. This is the clarity sidebar. The clarity rant, but the future, I'm not 100% sold on not drinking again forever.
Starting point is 00:11:21 I'm not there yet. definitely some non-negotiables it taught me I think about that like this morning like man it just catches up like be at Lampo's pizza and Corona hanging out with the boys you know boys lunch which means three beers guaranteed go to a show see oh no what I see recently I saw a case of strain recently
Starting point is 00:11:50 and Black Dollar murdered that that would been three beers easy me and jay would do a pod the pod's great let's have three beers that's nine beers a week not even raging just like casual that's nine beer nine times forward what's that 36 that's 36 beers a month dude like it and uh it adds up and uh the touring as well like a couple of shots or beer before I start rocking head-banging like I'm pretending I'm 21 again Um
Starting point is 00:12:28 So non-negotiable It's like I'm never going back to it I'm never drinking before shore again Unless it's like I don't know Monkey hands me a shot or something It will take something crazy Um
Starting point is 00:12:41 Tricking on tour is a big no-no I'm Unless it's again like it's someone crazy Like fucking James Hepfield Gives me two beers Um casual drinking no more drinking and shows no more as far as like me meeting you all in person
Starting point is 00:13:00 that's sometimes I'll have beers with with some of you that I met at the observatory or DBZE and Corona it was a cheering action at some point house of Bluzanaheim all the places I've been seeing guys at drinking on dates even like a glass of wine it says all that shit's done I can't it's it adds up It's a slippery slope. So the only way to stop that is to stop it completely.
Starting point is 00:13:29 But again, I'm not 100% sold yet. It would be like once every like six months. It would be rare, but I'm not 100%. I'm a no drinking yet. But I could be wrong. I'm going to continue to live my life as if it's like right now. 100% I'm going to start smoking weed again again once up
Starting point is 00:14:02 I don't know I already don't smoke a lot but I guess people get crazy about like sobriety or it's like everything has to stop but it's never a problem for me I like smoking because it gives you like the introspective kind of makes you kind of freak out as I heard people say
Starting point is 00:14:22 I heard Joey Diaz like comedians say that you gotta hang out with the devil and for me smoking weed is not fun it's not like a social thing it's like alone kind of okay kind of process some stuff so I see myself
Starting point is 00:14:35 going back to that every a few months getting like a nice little reset but I told my lady I'm gonna make a list of people I would drink with it'll be like fucking five people or something like i see rarely or but yeah uh thank you for uh letting me
Starting point is 00:15:01 talk about it um this probably helps without me even knowing probably helps my subconscious talking about it um because last year was i know we talk about it a lot but last year was fucking crazy like just talking to so many new fucking bands and all these shows and all these two beers here a beer here three beers here every fucking show like every week um
Starting point is 00:15:28 and having these like insane um death conversations and the research it was fucking crazy um so this really put things um into a healthy perspective but just thank you for being part of the journey
Starting point is 00:15:46 um i'll keep you uh probably updated on the next one where I'm at. I'm not going to smoke probably until another few months. I've got to handle some personal stuff looking at some apartments right now in Corona. I'm almost there.
Starting point is 00:16:02 What else? What else have we been doing? I'm on the same boat as all you guys. Trying to save some cash. I know last time I mentioned it, I bought this fucking laptop two grand out of the gates. base level has the fucking M5 chip so uh that two grand sucked um lucky i had it but it is saving me money
Starting point is 00:16:30 right out right out the gates uh it's the gas dude the gas is fucking the gas is not wet it's just like i mean coming here that's a quarter tank here and back and then at least on at least an hour and a half driving time. So I've been remote like 90% of time. So usually I'll come here
Starting point is 00:16:57 because the computer was always here and on my gear would be here. I'm okay, I'll put it up. I'll take a guitar at home. Wake up and oh shit, I'm not going to go anywhere. Just laptop all day.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Just fucking hang out. I have like a table in the backyard. And it's like a little blanket to like the right and on Leo Leo Art my cat likes to just take naps there all day so he's he's chilling all day kind of being like like a co-worker
Starting point is 00:17:25 and I'll shake I get to hang out with Leo almost all day as opposed to like the morning at night and handle some you know boring stuff and like so that's been nice save me money on gas I'm probably gonna get the money back of my investment probably in six months
Starting point is 00:17:43 because that shit that man a full tank and I eat You guys know, I have a, I have a Kia. It's a little Kia Rio, dude. And it's, it's also a small tank. And it's been at least 50 bucks to fill it up, dude. Like, so filling it up, like, be four days coming up here six days a week.
Starting point is 00:18:09 So that's probably at least 250 bucks. Yeah, I'll probably be saving 200 bucks, spending money on probably one day a week it's probably 50 bucks a month I'll be spending on gas now as opposed to 250 so I'm like that's that's pretty sick um
Starting point is 00:18:27 what else has has been going on uh I guess there's not much to say about it but uh I'll make more of an update on the next one but this is so we're recording this on Thursday by the time this drops on Monday you're already going to be posting pictures
Starting point is 00:18:46 I'm flying out I guess I'll How should I say? I'm talking in past tense or future tense So I'll just talk about it in future tense So I'm flying out Friday morning To Washington, D.C. Because it'll be my first show
Starting point is 00:19:05 Back with Suicide Silence And I don't know, I don't even remember the last show. I don't remember. It took a seventh month. It was a seventh month plus break. It didn't even It didn't even fucking feel like a break man It's not even fucking
Starting point is 00:19:22 It's not even fair Because we were doing this thing It was Still involved with music But it might have been Mayhem I think we were talking It might have been Mayhem Or
Starting point is 00:19:33 Or the Milwaukee Metal Fest I think I don't know I don't fucking know It might have been It might have been Mayhem on it But that was a wow girl
Starting point is 00:19:46 So yeah, people have See some comments every once in a while So I'm looking forward to it Already packed up You got you got if you want to If you want to save some stress If you're packing to go somewhere
Starting point is 00:20:04 I tell earning all the time Stop stressing what are you stressing about? Make a fucking list List Go down your list It makes packing so easy And I'm pretty much done packing just made a little list um
Starting point is 00:20:20 slaughter prevail was of my first taste of rocking with no no shots in me so a lot of firsts um this weekend gonna rock gonna rock a big show
Starting point is 00:20:38 it's been a minute and uh wonder what I'm gonna do after probably smoke a cigar or something or something I don't know maybe another Cupcake
Starting point is 00:20:48 I don't know But It's probably gonna be easier Than I think The past 90 days I've been We're easy
Starting point is 00:20:57 I can't front It was I'm lucky to have a really Good support system The lady This is going great Mom and dad are very supportive Um
Starting point is 00:21:09 Being 40 also helps I'm not like 20 And like a fucking Young Psycho So that That's cool. Looking forward to it. I got this
Starting point is 00:21:22 and then to wrap up my update. This might be boring, but again, this is my personal life. To the Starbucks is in the Barnes & Noble. It's really peaceful. And then I'm a real big fan. If you don't
Starting point is 00:21:42 like reading, children's books are I get like I'm talking like really deep insight of just reading these children books like shit that you can read in less than five minutes
Starting point is 00:22:04 front front to back kind of like the same I will get like reading like I guess I don't know an adult book I don't know like reading book it takes me like two weeks to get through like like like a full one and um so i think i've mentioned it here before i'm really a big fan of pete the cat i actually brought the book i bought on sunday pete the cat dude if you're just uh listening uh pete is a blue cat and uh maybe this is selfishly why i love him um he plays guitar and uh he's just fucking
Starting point is 00:22:42 sick. So Pete the cat, it'd be curious what I'm talking about. So this one I never seen before and I was shopping around and it's called Pete the Cat's Groovy Imagination. And that's If I'm at Barnes Noble
Starting point is 00:23:00 or anywhere that has books I'll open it up and I'll read a sentence and if it kind of like hits you, I buy it. and uh yeah uh jay j's pulling up if uh in case you want to see it too and uh it's just these dude i'm telling you like i i guess i'm just sharing my inspiration with you because people ask me where do you get inspiration from for for riffs pete the cat will make you write riffs so that's just kind of why i'm tied into the podcast and music um because this shit gets me fired up and uh i apply it to hear and suicide silence but yeah
Starting point is 00:23:44 anyways why I got it um he uh also Pete likes going to the beach and uh he he woke up
Starting point is 00:23:57 really looking forward to the beach but he woke up and there was raining outside and then um says here like instead of being bummed out he used his imagination to remain positive
Starting point is 00:24:13 and then he he drew a picture he played guitar I could show you this like guitar picture real quick yeah see so but he's fucking
Starting point is 00:24:27 I guess it's be a better one so he's drawing and then he's pieces he's strum he's ripping right there dude he's fucking ripping so that's obviously inspiring and then he saw a box
Starting point is 00:24:41 and then he colored the box and he closes, he says P closed his eyes and had it and had an out of this world dream and then he basically imagined it was a fucking rocket ship dude so he's fucking, he's
Starting point is 00:24:59 flying. He's flying. And this is why I bought the book. All this I mean, all these Pek the cat books are full of these but uh that when when you want to dream of something new thinking outside thinking outside the box is the grievous thing to do i was like that's this it makes yeah it's it's heavy um because it's true like uh thinking outside the box like you're talking like adult level like inspirations it's like you get it less than five minutes boom
Starting point is 00:25:40 read these children books but uh also like another thing about not drinking it just makes me go on rants i rant i rant even more now so i don't know that that's a good thing or a bad thing but uh be patient with me on this fucking journey so yeah pretty cool in the back is this a box and him looking at this box thinking but it's cool yeah it's very true man like always when you're riffing I'm always like well how can I okay what
Starting point is 00:26:10 what can I do or something like with this it's always like it's always out of the box stuff and it's really uh the outside of the box ideas tend to come
Starting point is 00:26:23 when you kind of return to that like child like state it's just like just kind of no brain just kind of let the imagination go oh shit that's
Starting point is 00:26:34 that's That's kind of cool. So yeah, that might inspire you to write riffs or do your choosing art or inspire you at work. So I just wanted to assure that with all you. And I think before I derail this podcast even more, I think we get an update from Jay. Starting point is 00:27:41 Back at it. Back at it, dude. After a nice little break. Just what I've been up to? Did I've been doing the rabbit hole on photography? Nice. Like still photography. How's that going?
Starting point is 00:27:55 It's sick. I've been learning a lot. I realize I learned a lot through like video cameras. Because that's what we do here. You know. Mm-hmm. But then, yeah, a lot of shit just applied over to still photography. And, yeah, just kind of prepping for that kind of stuff.
Starting point is 00:28:15 And yeah, I had bronchitis, so that was sick. Oh, really? Yeah, I think, like, last week, I just couldn't stop, like, coffee. And I was like, what the fuck? And, yeah, I figured it was that. I mean, eventually it went away, but that was pretty bad. I think I got it somewhere in Mexico, TBH. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Yeah. I'm stoked to be back. To be honest, I was just kind of just out and, you know, I'm studying. So now it's, uh, you're probably the first guy I talked to besides my wife and my dogs. Oh, wow. In like a week, so. Oh, fuck. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:47 So, yeah. So yeah. What's up, world? Hell yeah, dude. Welcome back, dude. Think we're ready to, I'll pop into some questions, man. All right, let's do it. Some, uh, again, I try to make a short and we already ran to for 25 minutes every time.
Starting point is 00:29:02 I'm sorry. Oh, God. I can't help it. All right. First one. This is from our, our Patreon slash Discord. Dalton. Dolton, this is actually straight from Discord.
Starting point is 00:29:20 Dolton, 0-1-100. How do you help yourself? That's fine. J-J-sh trying to fuck me up, dude. How do you help yourself with self- discipline from playing every day to sobriety how much does keeping your mental clarity come into play how do you keep up with it hmm you actually yeah um you actually already said it um so you kind of answer your own question but it's again to me it's boring stuff but i guess
Starting point is 00:29:57 uh to the outside world or all you listen to watching could help but uh it's discipline man I mean, the sobriety was discipline in a way. Mental clarity. You got to do things like the gym, reading cool books, kind of searching. Can have a natural, it's a natural curiosity just to search for your inspiration. How to keep up with it. It's discipline, dude. Like, having your daily habits in order.
Starting point is 00:30:40 The first half of the day is pretty boring. I thought about it. Like, should I do, like, more day and live stuff? I mean, how am I going to make, you know, how am I going to make, like, me answering emails, like, you know, exciting for, like, a social media post. You know, this is tough, but waking up, hanging out with the cat. handling business
Starting point is 00:31:05 going to gym, come back have a fucking stupid shake. I have a personally I put protein powder shout out to Jocko he has the best protein powder in my personal opinion spinach
Starting point is 00:31:23 uh beets I put on some fucking creatine in there because creatine is uh it's been uh known that it helps with mental clarity,
Starting point is 00:31:34 it's also known as like a cognitive boost. I take it for that, but also it just makes you fucking buff. It is pretty crazy. Like, I do the minimum, like, five grams in the shake. It's just like, it's just white powder. It looks like cocaine.
Starting point is 00:31:53 And, um, I notice when I don't take it, like, the lifts just like are so much harder. I'm trying not to be like, like, an advocate for, but damn, do you like, I'll go off it to cycle off it And then like You're trying to bench
Starting point is 00:32:08 You know get that fucking Get that primal pump going And uh I notice that when I don't take it Like the lifts go down Uh So it helps out with its strength So that's really cool
Starting point is 00:32:21 Um hydrated Um So that's shake slash breakfast And then shower Either come here or do more business But self-discipline man Just cert And then once you get the fucking boring stuff out of the way,
Starting point is 00:32:37 and then you fucking do your instrument or, you know, I'll chug or, uh, for you, you might be a drummer or a bass player or an artist. You might draw. So, uh, just getting like the,
Starting point is 00:32:51 like the morning, for me, it's just the morning. It's boring stuff. I'm sorry, but it's just boring shit. Like, the mornings have to be there.
Starting point is 00:33:03 Um, Black coffee. So it's like first thing in the morning, it's just, you know, hang out with Leo, feed him. Black coffee. Fucking press the fucking water kettle. So I have to get the caffeine. Check out, check out some emails. Do do some podcast stuff. The first 30 minutes. So it's out of the way. I used to read 30 minutes every single day. But the past three weeks have been, um, pot stuff. You know, all, everything that that you see, like the, the social media titles and the titles of the stuff that's that's been in the morning. It's clear ahead. And then once that's done, then you have, you know, always make a room to be creative because your brain needs space, space and clutter.
Starting point is 00:33:52 And I do notice, I'm answering this in real time, so I apologize about all over the place. But I do notice like, when you handle like the to do list. it's you're more likely to stay discipline. I'm kind of answering this in real time as I'm processing it in my brain.
Starting point is 00:34:15 I noticed like yesterday I had to, you know, because I'm leaving Friday, so I changed strings all three of my guitars, which took way more time than usual. I haven't played in a while, So my live rigs kind of out of orders I had to like take the put I'd the reinstall my my wireless system
Starting point is 00:34:42 screwed in clean up the back Undue Undue the zip ties kind of re-redo it And then uh So oh shit like hours just past hours Um But do you notice when you kind of get that stuff This gets stuff out of the way
Starting point is 00:35:00 You're more likely to Be disciplined And they have like a good lunch. You know, I have, I have my meal prep. You know, I've been, I'm, I'm, I'm making hamburgers. Pretty sick, dude. I got these wheat buns from, um, from Walmart. Again, uh, taste good. Uh, wheat, I guess it's better, at least it's better than, um, than white bread. And then, uh, I had this like super lean ground beef. I mean, I'm, I'm, I'm making in bulk. So I made all of these, like, patties. And then some broccoli because broccoli,
Starting point is 00:35:37 broccoli, uh, it was great for you. It sucks to eat it. Uh, but it's in there. So there's a little, a little bit of broccoli, a little fucking protein fucking hamburger. And I put it, I put it here in the oven. Boom. Help healthy meal. Done.
Starting point is 00:35:54 Uh, got three, four hours worth of just to do list. Done. Okay. I'm hungry again. Meal prep. Boom. Okay. Now, then, uh, you got the energy to do what, do what you want.
Starting point is 00:36:05 Um, cause you're, your brain kind of, I mean, you probably all know, you probably all know what I'm talking about. Like, your brain just fucking shuts off, man. It's just, like, you're fucking tired and you made, like, all your decisions earlier on day and you're like,
Starting point is 00:36:21 second half of the day, you're kind of done. Like, fuck. But, if you maintain your discipline throughout the first half, you kind of get like a second, third wind, I've noticed. I'm telling you this a real time as I'm, like, processing it in my brain. Oh, shit. Like, sometimes, sometimes if when it's,
Starting point is 00:36:37 like 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. I'm like, holy shit, I kind of have like a second, third win. And that only happens when like, I mean, the day was essentially perfect. Like, you know, some, you know, on my, on my weekdays, um, you know, 5 p.m.
Starting point is 00:36:55 I might get a domino's pizza, you know. Then that second win doesn't come or or that third win. It's like, okay, I'm fucking done. But, uh, notice, you kind of set up your, your, your day and your and the day before things tend to go how they're supposed to
Starting point is 00:37:16 and up you have energy you're motivated you're motivated if you have energy and it's really hard to be motivated when you don't have energy because motivation's so fucking cliche dude cliche but motivation is just so like it's so
Starting point is 00:37:32 it's so finicky it's barely there so when you kind of stack it so when you stack it against it it's like it's not even there um
Starting point is 00:37:45 and yeah and then you do it again the next day and then the next day and then the next day and so on and so on um so that without going
Starting point is 00:37:56 on a full on rant that's kind of I mean that's that's what helps me and it might not be perfect but uh I keep you also again like you answer your own question i got this again i got this from from jaco it's literally in it's literally in the word self discipline yourself it comes from you and we all have it
Starting point is 00:38:19 i always tell people and i i the reason why i keep talking about it i try to just ingrain it into everyone's brain especially if you're like a musician listening um like i was that guy I was that fucking lazy fucking not motivated fucker and I got really lucky with suicide sounds really lucky. We got lucky with some great music some great albums that kind of put us into a spot but
Starting point is 00:38:48 yeah it made me fucking jaded and I wasn't motivated I was a cliche musician drinking and um just not just fucking jaded so I do
Starting point is 00:39:08 I'm lazy because musicians are fucking lazy we are lazy motherfuckers dudes so cliche again like if I can do it anyone can I was like
Starting point is 00:39:20 the fact I'm even sitting here talking to you in three cameras that's gonna be posted on YouTube and it's like it's fucking
Starting point is 00:39:32 I will not imagine I will be here. This is fucking crazy. So if I can do it, anyone can't. I was that person. I was that fucking lazy piece of shit. So I learned, I guess I learned how to be self-discipline.
Starting point is 00:39:49 It comes from yourself. It's in there. It is fucking, if you have a working brain, it's in there, dude. You've got to fucking dig it out. This is a subject I'll always talk about and bring you up because even for me,
Starting point is 00:40:02 I got to remind of myself I gotta go out to Barnes Noble and buy Pete the Cat books Just get reminded You gotta search for it man But yeah without going on A longer rant Dalton
Starting point is 00:40:15 Thank you for your Patreon Patreon slash Discord question What about systems Because I've been seeing you develop systems And And I've been you know Using that for myself too Oh hell yeah
Starting point is 00:40:29 Because you know That's when motivation And sometimes it's not there. So when you have like, like when you get up in the, like, when you have to go to the gym, you're like, you don't have the energy. Yeah. But the clothes are already set. The keys are already, you know, the bottles filled and all that. Totally.
Starting point is 00:40:46 Oh, you're right. So it's like systems to, for when the motivation is not there, you just, you're already going. So like, when we do pods like this, fucking three cameras on you. It's the day scheduled. Maybe we're like sick or out. But it's already set. So it's already going. Whether you want it to or not.
Starting point is 00:41:03 True. Right. So I've been seeing, I've been seeing you do that. So I'm like, maybe you can talk about it on your systems, yeah. Oh, thanks, man. Yeah, uh, yeah, those systems. Um, and me and Jay have both been in here, uh, many times sick, sick as fuck. But it's, yeah, you're right.
Starting point is 00:41:19 It's already set up. So setting yourself up for, uh, this can sound wrong, but you set yourself up getting ready to fail or getting ready to fail or getting ready to fight. Because once it's already there, you, you just, you just, you just, got to do it. Yeah, what's helped me was, yeah, developing systems. I have Google calendars, just kind of free up the space. I literally set up the next six months.
Starting point is 00:41:45 I like looking out six months out. And I have in a calendar as far as maybe guests or something. Like, it's already done. Like, okay, I'm going to hit up these. I'm going to hit up these people. It's probably going to, this is basically the next six months of the podcast. I mean, um, that takes like, it takes a few hours. It's, it's tedious stuff.
Starting point is 00:42:10 It's very tedious. But once you develop your system, like for me, like, for example, like a Google calendar. Um, because you can't keep it in, in your head. I try that and have experimented it with other ways to develop systems. Like, like, like, for example, a failure for me was, uh, okay, I need. I need a calendar. Oh, but I'm old as cool. I like, I like to write things down.
Starting point is 00:42:37 Okay, so I literally bought like these massive paper calendars and like they were like, they're on the wall here over. Like so I had like the whole like year and like a half in like a paper calendar. But it just didn't work because it was too much. And when I had to adjust, it just made it like like impossible. I was like, okay, this is not working, but there's something there with the system. So I'm like, okay, it's funny.
Starting point is 00:43:09 Like when I, when I reject digital stuff, a lot of times I bite myself in the ass. So hopefully you can learn for my, my mistakes. And then once I was like, fuck this, dude, I'm doing, I'm going on the computer. I'm making a digital calendar. I have it on my phone. I have it on the fucking laptop.
Starting point is 00:43:28 Boom. it hit so when you develop a system and it hits like he's got to fucking ride it dude and uh yeah like birthdays uh it's having friends birthdays on there um separate you can make separate calendar so you have like a per i have a personal subject podcast one a suey one um a schedule one for for me and j it's it's all separate it's all separate but there and that was very helpful Because, yeah, days, I'll tell you straight up, like days that today. Like, Jay just said it. It's a perfect example.
Starting point is 00:44:06 Like, I woke up today, fucking lazy. I don't want to do shit. But the system is in place. The podcast set up. My calendar is there. And my to-does that I set up a week prior. And it's all right. I'll just follow these to-dos.
Starting point is 00:44:21 And I fucking dragged. I dragged my fucking lazy body, physical body to physical body to the gym. I got sucked. I was fucking tired. But it was done. Oh shit. Feel good. Take a shower. Hang out with the cat. All right. I feel better. Now we're here. It's already set up. So it's setting
Starting point is 00:44:47 setting up your systems. And I think it's different for everybody. Like, because I would try something that someone else is doing. And then it wouldn't work. Like, I have like this X, how do you say it? XLR sheet or, um, XLR sheet or something like a Excel. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:12 And, um, I already made my own, um, schedule on there too. Like, okay, I, I couldn't find, even like once you could pay for. I couldn't find it, um, online or like, I couldn't find something that resonant. that resonated with me. I mean, because I'm stupid. I tell people, I say all the time,
Starting point is 00:45:34 I'm a fucking idiot. I'm like, I need something simple that my brain could be just sick off and I could follow it and adjust it quickly. So I just,
Starting point is 00:45:44 one day I'm like, fuck this. I just made my own. Oh, like, what, like, what do I want?
Starting point is 00:45:50 I made this, this fucking thing. It's four pages. And one page is like, um, like, the whole day for a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., the whole week is there on one sheet.
Starting point is 00:46:07 So knowing what you do every single time, the next sheet over looks over the month of like, like I call them Big Rocks, like the top two priorities for that week or that day. So the next sheet is like a month, the month. The next one is like the year. And then the other one is five years out and that helped me. And like this Excel sheet, maybe one day I'll share it.
Starting point is 00:46:36 But it's super stupid. Like, it's stupid. And but for me, it works. I couldn't find a scheduling sheet that was dumb enough. And this episode is brought to you by Activia. You might already be eating yogurt, but not all yogurts are created equal. Activia contains over one billion probiotics per serving to survive and reach the gut alive.
Starting point is 00:47:05 When it comes to gut health, Activia is the number one family doctor-recommended probiotic yogurt brand. Choose Activia. Feel good from the inside out. Visitactivia.ca for more details. So that's helped me. So I know because throughout the day, it happens all the time. Like throughout the day or that the week, you'll get ideas.
Starting point is 00:47:32 Well, oh, shit, I got to do that. I got to call this person. Oh, shit, I should probably do that. I should probably go to the, I don't know, I should probably go to the bank on Thursday or something. And you always tell yourself, you're going to be a member. You're not going to remember. I do it. It's a thing your brain does.
Starting point is 00:47:51 You say you're going to remember, but you don't. It happens to me all the time. I forget 100% of the time. So, successfully. I'm trying to be honest with with you. I think about 85% plus I'll be successful. Okay, stop what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:48:08 Put it on the fucking sheet. Okay, it's there. Boom. Because sometimes that, that 50% it gets me. Okay, I'll remember it. Nope. It's, it's gone.
Starting point is 00:48:18 It's somewhere. It's out, it's out in the, I don't know, in the idea ether. But, yeah, getting those systems going has definitely helped me. And that's definitely in line with the sober stuff.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Like my scheduling and systems have become much more precise and more simple. And I do it all the time. How can I make this dumber? Like, how can I make this more simple? And that's hard to do. It's so hard to be simple, dude. Like, I tell shit people all the time. Like, how can I make this more simple?
Starting point is 00:48:54 And I find that the more simpler, that's even a word. I don't know. It's simpler as a word. I make it. The more you stick to it. And workouts, too. It's all, I have it on like a sheet of paper.
Starting point is 00:49:09 I take, I like carrying it. So I have it in like a little notebook. I take to the gym. It's just, I'm not thinking. What's to work out? See? Okay, weight there, that weight.
Starting point is 00:49:19 Go up, go down. It's all the, I'm not thinking. I'm lazy and I don't want to use my brain. So, uh, setting that shit up to where you think less. That shit helps me. And as Jay said, it's finding your system.
Starting point is 00:49:36 I think, because my system is like no one else's. Like, I made a dumb one. But it's working for me. It's working and sticking. So hopefully you find your own system. And,
Starting point is 00:49:49 yeah, Dalton, thank you for your question. Try to give you a short answer by, we just fucking want. Got to give it to them. Maybe you could drop the, calendar and the Patreon for download.
Starting point is 00:50:00 Oh shit. Just to. Oh, fuck, dude. Fucking subscribe. Patreon on fucking calendar? Hell yeah. Get that game. Just to get like a, you know, an idea.
Starting point is 00:50:10 Like, oh shit. Totally. Yeah. It's good idea. Yeah. It'll help everybody. All right. The next two, next two questions are heaters.
Starting point is 00:50:17 So saving this for a midpod. But here we go. Let's see. A.C. Ray Reeves. Did I get that right? Yeah. Okay. Here we go. Far beyond driven or forward display of power. I saw this question. I'm like, oh damn, that's a good one. Um, obviously I think we're talking like personal preference. And, man, obviously Pantera is one of the biggest middle bands known to be one of the greatest to ever do it. Might not ever be topped. especially when we were talking about the era, what it meant. I found Pantera through Bulger.
Starting point is 00:51:09 If you ever talk about, I know people don't like when I do this, but I, I just love, I love the singles. People call me a poser for it, but I don't care. I love walk. walk is such a phenomenal song and i found heavy music and then these bands through these music videos like if if walk didn't exist i wouldn't have found pantera
Starting point is 00:51:39 the first metallic song i heard was enter sandman um there's there's a show on mtv they're like it was like spring break uh spring break they're doing like covers outside it's just random and it's he was covering enter sandman something you will never do because it's not cool
Starting point is 00:51:57 well that's why I found that band boom um so I found corn got the life came on boom it changed my fucking life got the life it's it's the single I know there's deep cuts through all these bands but uh
Starting point is 00:52:16 it's the fucking it's like they're those songs are massive for a reason you know uh I you know I've I've talked about Nirvana smells like teen spirit like smells like teen spirit is massive for a reason so I'm not the only one but I'm just kind of stating like the obvious but it's just not cool to say so to have a song a heavy song to have such an impact like walk is just like to stay bands try to
Starting point is 00:52:55 do it I try to do it like how do I just do like one riff and just like like that's the song. How do I do that? I haven't done it yet. And very few bands have done it. I can't even think of a band that has done it, right? Like, how do you write a riff like that? Dude, just the one, just the one and its top string.
Starting point is 00:53:17 Don't buy a hand out. That's, so that's one of my personal favorite. Again, this is personal preference for me. In my opinion, what gets me horned up. and it makes you want to pick up a fucking instrument and follow my own journey and dream. It's that riff, dude. I mean, it's like,
Starting point is 00:53:38 if you're a dime bag, where did that riff come from? Like, holy shit, were you like, were you in your room jamming for hours? Were you, I mean, there's rumors of dime shitting on a toilet
Starting point is 00:53:52 and still playing guitar and practicing. Those are the rumors I've heard. did it just like pop up one day were you drinking were you hanging out with your buddies like damn how did that where that riff come from and what it's done
Starting point is 00:54:09 for heavy music it's just I mean it's it's unmatched but on the other side you have far beyond driven and they just took it to a whole other level and might have been the first
Starting point is 00:54:30 I think it's the first like for kind of prove to the world that you could be number one and just have a fucking crazy record
Starting point is 00:54:41 a crazy record and I've heard shout out to Dean Carr I believe he was he was a photographer for the artwork Um, very, very cool guy.
Starting point is 00:54:58 And if, if I'm not mistaken, um, this was actually not supposed to be the cover. I think the cover was like, so, so the cover now is on, on the head, but I think the actual cover was like a butthole. If I'm not, if I'm not mistaken, which is too crazy. Um Potatoes What a Is Yep there it is
Starting point is 00:55:29 And we're going to have to blur that that one out But yep I knew I wasn't talking out of my ass But a pun intended But uh Yeah shout out to you a Dean car A great a great photographer But uh
Starting point is 00:55:44 I mean that's inspired bands like mine Like you could You could be over the top Heavy You could just you could just go ham and still be
Starting point is 00:56:00 number one I mean they were probably the first I mean I mean please correct me if I'm wrong I mean it's was there anyone prior to that that is
Starting point is 00:56:10 have that create that heavy of a record that reached like number one or even like top 10 um but again I think we are talking
Starting point is 00:56:23 like personal preference um Sorry, we're on a, we're asking AI. Quiet, I mean, that's like pop, though. Yeah, it's pop. Pop metal? Yeah, I mean, Shadow the Pantera, they're probably the first. For me, I'm jamming Fulgar in my spare time.
Starting point is 00:56:48 As far as, like, guitar. Oh, so a Far Beyond trip, maybe you don't know. It came out March 22nd, 1994. Hit number one. When I was first learning, you know, I was trying to learn walk. And I'm not, I'm not a solo guy. I'm not like, I'm not the kind of player. But I was trying to learn the walk solo.
Starting point is 00:57:18 Like, you know, like the fucking classic like, like, my dumb ass was in my fucking room. We're trying to learn that. And I got there and then I stopped because then time just goes off. and I could, I'll never be able to do that. And it was like, you know, kind of like more simple, I guess you could say solo. So that, you know, that got me horned up. And it takes a lot, dude, for me to learn a solo. Like, I think I learned, uh, Metallica's unforgiven against more simple, kind of viby,
Starting point is 00:57:52 a bluesy, okay, I could kind of get a gate with that. And it makes sense because I think James actually played that solo. So that makes a lot of sense. But I mean to learn a solo, it's like, I can't even think of the other one I have. Walk. Unforgiven. I can't even think of another solo I try to learn.
Starting point is 00:58:15 It got me that horned up that like a rhythm player like myself was like, okay, I'm going to learn this fucking song. That's what Volga did. Like it made people want to play. It made people like, like my son. that arguably still can't play guitar. Oh shit, I'm gonna fucking learn done. And I ain't it.
Starting point is 00:58:35 And it's just an impactful riff. And also I was learning new level. That chromatic ascending riff, like that shit was like sick. And then and then he chugs it. And then there's a top string verse, which I love top string stuff. It was like juicy. A little challenge. but simple enough to like anyone someone like me could like oh shit like i want to learn that and i can
Starting point is 00:59:05 um it was it was really fun mouth mouth of war you know this okay that's like i think i i could do that so that that record just makes you it makes a beginner and you like just want to play where i think far beyond driven doesn't have those kind of songs they're i mean they're great songs is a very extreme record but forward just has such a um impact for uh like the simple players i never really it's i don't think i really try to play anything off uh far far beyond driven but i think uh probably depending on your age or how you heard the records your emotional attachment to said records um i think that's all person some preference, right?
Starting point is 01:00:02 If we're talking like Desert Island, I'm taking vulgar. So that's my pick. And feel free to talk shit to me. I would really appreciate it. So that's my pick.
Starting point is 01:00:20 What are your picks? But yeah, thank you for your question. When I saw it, I was like, this is juicy. This is a fucking juicy one. I think we have time for a one more Um Actually uh
Starting point is 01:00:38 Let's just Let's just move on actually Because we're already like like an hour in Yeah yeah Let's uh Let's do the reaction So I try to avoid this Sometimes just scrolling social media
Starting point is 01:00:55 I'm like okay Like I keep seeing this fucking clip I keep seeing these clips And then eventually someone told me Hey uh you should you know what do you think about this i keep i kept seeing this banana man thing and uh so purposely because of the podcast i chose not to watch it until this moment because i want to get my natural reaction and my um similar to you part i get like that first gut reaction to it
Starting point is 01:01:23 and i was actually jamming this this band earlier right before the podcast me and j jammed a song from i end it right end it All right, so I have no idea what's about to happen. I have no idea. So, I'm doing know what I'm talking about. Let's, uh, let's, let's, let's have some fun. All right. So what, what the hell's going on?
Starting point is 01:01:44 The infamous, infamous banana man. That happens to be at every crazy show. Okay, so if you're just listening, there's a banana in the crowd. Can we crank this? There we go. It's cool. That's all you see is a fucking banana. Let's get a pencil.
Starting point is 01:02:11 You want to do it now? Oh, oh. What's going on, man? Fuck, you do it, my niggins? No, no, no, no. Not good. He wanted to be attention and now he has it. Okay.
Starting point is 01:02:37 Um, okay. I'm just saying, he was asking for attention now. You got it. Uh. He's looking a little scared now? Yeah. Oh, shit. Oh.
Starting point is 01:02:50 Oh, oh my goodness. Okay. Okay. Okay. Where's the banana man? But the song's sick. I can't lie about that. All this.
Starting point is 01:03:41 All right. So there's pieces of the outfit in people's hands. I see that. Where do you go? What happened to him? That was probably it. Okay. So does people seem kind of pissed about it?
Starting point is 01:04:15 So I was like, okay. So just for some best. backstory. Mitch actually have gone to shows wearing a banana suit. So this has been going on at shows like well over two decades. I've seen this early 2000s
Starting point is 01:04:35 in Corona at showcase theater. So pretty, people dress weird at shows. It happens. A common one lately has been Jesus. I've been meeting many forms of Jesus at shows.
Starting point is 01:04:52 I have interacted with one of them Cool That's what you want to try to add a show cool Um Also I have I have heard a rumor that uh The band have since deleted their Facebook Um It seems like there's a fucking negative vibe
Starting point is 01:05:13 Um I guess would have said that No Um Because what if he was naked I don't need that What if it's just like a naked banana? Yeah, telling people to take it off.
Starting point is 01:05:37 I personally wouldn't do that. It creates too many problems. It's kind of a weird... It's irresponsible. I guess you would say it's, yeah, it's slightly irresponsible. Maybe you're just in the moment, you know, the vibe in the moment. I get it like you're fucking out of show.
Starting point is 01:06:07 or like I see this fucking big banana. I mean, right at the gate, it's like all you see is like a banana suit. It looked like a fucking lead pencil. That's kind of all, I saw. But if you're wearing a banana suit at a show, you have to expect, you have to expect some attention.
Starting point is 01:06:31 You know, that's going to gather some attention. Most likely, maybe some unwanted attention. But, uh, yeah telling people to rip off the suit personally i wouldn't do and it seems from uh clips i'm seeing photos i'm seeing he goes to other shows he wears the banana suit um so it's kind of his his deal like i mentioned about like the jesus um i'm pretty sure this more than one i met the one uh at the observatory i talked to him um cool guy and I guess that's what they want to wear
Starting point is 01:07:14 Would I personally tell the audience to Rip off the suit Maybe in the moment it didn't seem like across the line Maybe it seemed innocent In the moment Coming again Full transparency
Starting point is 01:07:34 I'm in suicide silence We tell people to fucking split the room down the middle and then 80% of the time, one or two people tend to stay in the middle. So that is their choosing. They've chosen to be in the middle of a wall of death. That's what they call it. It's called a wall of death. They're choosing to participate in their own way.
Starting point is 01:08:12 So what are we encouraging? but then again that that that's a that's a pit you're kind of expecting a pit and also uh people have come to expect that from us oh we're going to see suicons they're going to do a wall of death um either you're in or you're out you have your option you do have your option to opt out which again i don't know what makes people say in the middle i wouldn't do that and people on the side they have chosen to be a part of this I guess the argument for the banana suit
Starting point is 01:08:52 he did not choose to get his shit ripped apart so I guess that is the difference like telling people to take off the suit I guess that is like I mean it's weird because it
Starting point is 01:09:10 this has never happened before so I guess there is like a line kind of crossed there because like you can't really choose that where people could choose to be in a pit or not people could choose a stage die people could choose to be in front of the stage and knowing damn what was going to happen people were in their fucking headwalk they're gonna jump on um but when the band calls out hey we're gonna rip off this fucking
Starting point is 01:09:40 banana suit from a person that's known to wear it maybe uh i'm playing devil's advocate i'm sure in the it felt right but yeah you can't you can't do that man because I'm processing this in real time you probably you probably shouldn't have done that but uh it's tough man you're fucking rocking like you're chugging you're playing breakdowns and then you see
Starting point is 01:10:07 your fucking banana suit you're like rip out that fucking banana suit I mean that's a I mean that's kind of a mosh call out too I mean we've done mosh call out so you know fucking fucking hurt somebody I mean I don't know I'm going to throw out
Starting point is 01:10:23 the years, the things that we said on stage, fucking kill somebody. Like we said, but we, but you obviously don't mean it. You are, we obviously don't mean it, but this is very intentional. Like, we, we don't mean,
Starting point is 01:10:40 for someone to get hurt. We don't mean, we'd kill somebody. We just say, we just say to kind of, you know, that's just the vibe. It's hyperbolic. Yeah. I guess this is a, a new line that we, that we all have learned in real time not to cross.
Starting point is 01:10:56 You can't tell people to rip off the fucking banana suit. What do you think of the bananas, though? Because I've seen them at, you know, chaos and carnage. And I saw Eddie be like, like, annoyed by the banana. Yeah. But not, like, singling out like that, you know? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:16 It was more just, like, get in that wall of death, like that shit. Yeah, so you want to wear banana. So you better get in the wall of death.
