Starting point is 00:00:00 Any form of artists or Art, like, they kind of really, they get fascinating with like the complete opposite. It's funny, I nerd out over him and like comedians. Yeah. Majorly, like something that you're not involved in so you can appreciate it from afar, right? 100% dude.
Starting point is 00:00:16 One of the worst things about being in a band and playing music is you lose your innocent ear. Use EMG pickups because they help you get the heaviest tone possible. Starting point is 00:00:46 And now to the heaviest podcast of all time. Are we live? We're live. We live on pay-review. Paper view. Is Paperview still a thing? I think so. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Yeah. What do you like the UFC fight? do. They have like their own app. Oh, yeah. Are they ESPN or no, right? It's ESPN, right? So they have the fight nights that are on ESPN, and then they have like their own
Starting point is 00:01:17 pay-per-view thing that they do through their app. Oh. And I think you can buy, I think they still do it the old school way where you can buy each fight individually, but you can also like, I think, pay monthly and you get all of them. I see. You see us the fight pass. Fight pass. That's what it's called.
Starting point is 00:01:34 And then if you're a. boxing there's like all these random apps I keep seeing Oh yeah The zone But would that be considered pay per view I don't know Um
Starting point is 00:01:47 It has to be right I mean technically any Anything that you're paying like I think a one time fee For is like pay per view Yeah it's just called something differently Huh Oh it's not the official PPV
Starting point is 00:01:59 Interesting Through like direct TV or whatever Cool Everyone Thank you for listening watching We're going on tour. Cool. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Before I forget the plug. Kios and Carnage, man. Dude, fucking. I'm going to see Diant Fetus. It's going to be sick as fuck. I don't even know what the dates are. It's going to be a crazy lineup, man. There we go.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Shout out to Dian Fetus, Born of Osiris, Aborded. Please help me say this band name. Sanguissa Gabaabog. Thank you very much. Crown, Magnitar, and Slade Squad. What a great lineup. Insane lineup. I'm pretty pumped.
Starting point is 00:02:36 Love the variety on that. You get like something for everybody. It's all brutal. Yeah. Just different flavors of brutal, right? Yeah, New York. It's going everywhere, really, in three and a half weeks. So, yeah, if you're in New York, Vegas, obviously, Southern California.
Starting point is 00:02:52 I've been wanting to play that Berkeley venue. UC theater. I've been wanting to be there for a while. Oh, yeah. I heard about that. It's a sick venue. I always see, like, bands that they're routing. I'm like, damn, I want to go.
Starting point is 00:03:06 go there? Yeah. Finally. Berkeley's a legendary city for like hardcore and stuff too, so that's cool. Dude, look at that shit. He's fucking sick. Damn, that's a nice room. I like the layout.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Well, that'd be sick. I'm definitely looking forward to it. Looking forward to seeing everybody. Yeah. Seeing a... To be a party. If you leave comments, thank you. I've seen people in person.
Starting point is 00:03:32 It's always nice. You know? Oh, yeah, definitely. You got to come say hi. see what's up we'll probably see Sterling in Vegas oh there you go
Starting point is 00:03:42 shout out Sterling shout out man that's gonna be what's like the perfect amount of bands to to see I personally I personally think it's four
Starting point is 00:03:55 oh like in a show yeah what's like the because this is seven what's like a good I mean like I think four bands is where you can capture the most, like people's attention the best.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Yeah. So I feel like somewhere in between, whether it be the first two artists or whoever, you know, there's always going to be time in between where people are just showing up or they're, like, getting merch or, you know what I mean? So there's definitely like, I always feel like the middle of the lineup usually gets the most love, like smack dab in the middle or usually like good spots. It's absolutely the best slots when people are showing up and they're stoked. Some people go to shows and leave early because it got either work or, you know, I've done
Starting point is 00:04:36 Matt. I was like, I'm fucking tired. I'm going home. I feel like if you're like the third band, that's a pretty sick slot. I want to be in third slot. What the fuck, man? That's how they should fucking make tours, man. I don't want, I don't want the fucking, that, that slot. I want, like, the middle. That's, you know, that's how they do, like, uh, like comedy shows? They put the headliner in the middle. Like, the headliner will be, like, third, and there'll be, like, two comedians before
Starting point is 00:05:00 and then two comedians after. Yeah, it's like a lineup at, like, the comedy store. Yeah, exactly. Like, wow, you see all those names? But the headliner always goes on early. Never. Almost never will headline, like, actually go on last. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Yeah. Comedy story is definitely a bucket list place that I want to go to. I keep hearing stories about it, but I never been. It's a cool vibe there, man. Everything, like, the lighting's very dim. I don't know if they still do it. They have, like, a guy played piano in the main room before the comedians go on. It's just like a very, you definitely feel the history there.
Starting point is 00:05:35 And you just saw Bill Burr. Yeah. You didn't even tell me, you fuck. It was last minute. I got like a text message like a couple hours before the show that there's like free guest list. Wow. Yeah. So I just went on a whim.
Starting point is 00:05:50 It was at the bourbon room. It's like this new spot in Hollywood. And they're actually doing shows there too. So that's a new spot because when I saw like the bourbon room, where the hell is that? It's like right. It's in the middle of sunset like Hollywood and sunset like very. Oh, wow. Much in the middle of Hollywood.
Starting point is 00:06:07 So it was on sunset. Or like Hollywood. You know what? I could be wrong. It might be off Hollywood, actually. But I know it's like, it's deep in the middle of Hollywood. It was like right off one of the main roads. I like going there, but man, it's being on sunset.
Starting point is 00:06:23 It's just fuck. It's a lot. It's a lot. I know the mountain paper parking. Yeah, you pay 20 bucks for parking. That's unavoidable, you know. I think if you pay for parking, you should get a free drink. I know, right?
Starting point is 00:06:36 Well, I got a free show, so I guess I can't complain. Damn, yeah, there is that. You know, they still do the two drink minimum, but, like, you know, you can get, like, two beers, and that'll be, like, what, 15 bucks or something. So, not a big deal. To me, Bill Burr is, he used to go as far as common. He's my favorite comedian. Yeah, he was up there.
Starting point is 00:06:57 It was cool because he was just trying out new material, so he was doing a lot of, like, crowd work, talking to people. It was fun. Damn. It was cool seeing him. not do like his usual thing where it's like a whole bit. You know what I mean? Like he was messing around a lot and it was cool to see like as long as he's been doing it.
Starting point is 00:07:13 He's still so good at like just being witty and quick, you know, like look at someone in the crowd and then making a whole premise around that. Yeah. You know. That must have been so cool seeing that, man. Yeah. And it was a small room, you know, like, even better. Like 50 seats probably. Damn.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Very, very small room. You got lucky, dude. That's fucking sick. Yeah. That was so random. Because I get, like, text messages pretty often for, like, free shows. But that was the biggest lineup I've gotten hooked up on. Wow.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Yeah. See, the shows go. Just be nice, people. Talk to people. They might add you to their, you know, their mailing list thing where they give away tickets. Yeah, and he tends, he talks about metal a lot. I remember listening to his podcast and he's, like, talking about, like, Mushugga.
Starting point is 00:08:00 And my, whoa, dude, holy shit. Yeah, so he's a drummer and his drum teacher. is the current drummer from the Mars Volta. So you know he's not like he's insane like Damn dude. Yeah but he's a big metal guy now Because that dude from Mars Volta has taken him to a bunch of shows Wow.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Yeah it's weird. That's two worlds that I never saw combining in the way that it did with Bill Burr Because he's such a like mainstream like big act. Yeah. Is he oh is he talking about my sugar here? Oh yeah. Are you serious? Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:34 This video is. pretty funny. Jeremy made a fat. This guy that works for me put up a video. Show him the video. And it has like over a hundred thousand years? What is it? That's Bill Burr doing the bleed rhythm. Talking about the drummer in, oh god, no, no, I just, that's called Metallica. Meshugga. Meshugga. So that song is called Bleed. It's about a brain hemorrhage. And I was just talking about I love that a heavy metal band called themselves Meshugga. For those of those...
Starting point is 00:09:27 That's sick, dude. That's crazy. That's so fucking cool, man. And then Howie. So, yeah, they probably go into, like, a whole thing about, like, the meaning of the band and, like, all that kind of stuff. Because he, he went to see them live, too. I think he was talking about the, yeah, Willtern. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Yeah, correct. Yeah, he was there. And that's where that little sound bit came from, because he was, like, imitating like how Thomas Hawks bass drum sounded oh my goodness dude it's just weird that like a comedian like a mainstream comedian gets super nerdy about metal like how like the average metal listener does that's crazy yeah you know any kind of any form of artists or like art like they kind of really they get fastening with like the complete opposite it's funny because i nerd out over him and like comedians yeah majorly like i listen billber or like rogan or oh he's like uh
Starting point is 00:10:22 Chappelle. I'll be like, whoa, holy shit, dude, what, like, what, like, I was, like, trip out over it and then they probably listen to music. Because it's something that you're not involved in so you can appreciate it from afar, right? 100%, dude, one of the worst things about being in a band and about playing
Starting point is 00:10:38 music is you lose your innocent ear, and it's the worst in your, no matter what band you see, new song or record you're listening to, you just fucking, you're just going to like this analyzing mode. Every time, and it fucking sucks. Lens no matter what.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Yes, it sucks, man. You can't just go to a show just be like, whoa, just enjoy it. So I'll go to see comedians and there's just no filter. It's just like I'm just an idiot. It's being, it's truly appreciating and enjoying it, you know. That must be like, you know, go into a metal show for the first time and watching a guitarist shred or something. I can't imagine. And you've never seen that before, you know.
Starting point is 00:11:19 That's only, yeah, I've only, not that just hit me right now holy shit that only happened to me once in my life that's like the first time i saw corn there's no there's no there's nothing you see your band for the first time and you just get hit you're like wow for me that was a system of a down dude yeah i saw them at long beach arena and just hearing like like like you said just that sound for the first time in person yeah it's like a different thing it's different huh yeah you remember that always i mean yeah part of you with like videos you probably look at videos you kind of oh they they probably edit it with this and they probably put it through this this filter and you know it sucks i can't just watch a music
Starting point is 00:11:57 video see it sucks huh it's impossible gosh yeah i'm thinking about the lens they use and the rig even movies even movies oh that sucks i don't think about that not all if it's a good movie i can still kind of get immersed into it yeah but you know what sucks is when they use effects that's when I start getting distracted because I'm like, what? What plug in the day user? Oh my goodness. Dude, that sucks.
Starting point is 00:12:23 Yeah, I mean, for you or anyone that works in that world, yeah, you can't see movies the same. And that sucks. No. Because when you go to a movie theater, that's such a crazy... You think the movie theater is dead, but you literally give you mind
Starting point is 00:12:37 at the moment you're in there and sit there, oh, this is why I still here. Yeah. A movie theater is so sick. Yeah, I mean, you can't watch a movie. Yeah. The theater with that innocent. Kind of sucks.
Starting point is 00:12:47 I try to like force my brain into a different and so more innocent, you know. Stop. Sometimes it works. You know how it is. Like if you, if you want to feel that way enough and you want to enjoy it, you'll kind of find a way to get yourself in that innocent mind space again. Yeah, that's the thing. It can only have once.
Starting point is 00:13:06 It sucks, man. In that way. Yeah. You can kind of like force yourself sometimes. You do got to force yourself. It's funny like a, it's like that with, with, uh, there's something special when you do something for the first time, like for bands,
Starting point is 00:13:20 it's like recording a record. It's kind of why the records sound that way when it's so early on their career. Like it's something about not knowing what the fuck you're doing. Yeah. And it's doing it. You only do it once or twice. That is true.
Starting point is 00:13:31 You know, when you listen to a band's first demo, it's different. It's different, dude. And then as soon as they get signed and they go into the studio, it's recorded differently. It's not the same kind of sound.
Starting point is 00:13:42 I know. I mean, I try to do it. I try to go into something like new and like, oh, this is like, well, or let's, or let someone else having an idea like I don't really know about, kind of, all I'm doing, I'm trying to go back to like that. Like, I don't know what I'm doing, phase. The innocent phase. Yeah, because you don't know what's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:14:00 You're trying to get that, that magic, you know. Especially with heavy music, right? Especially with heavy music. Especially. That's like, that's the genre where it's, you know, it's kind of hard to innovate when, you know, there's only so many ways you can play a low end, you know. so you do kind of have to just like sometimes just try things that
Starting point is 00:14:19 you never have thought of totally I mean a lot of it says here's to write one good rip is like you have like a hundred like whatever once yeah exactly it's like you're just going and going yeah and that's what's fascinating about writing a sick rip it's like
Starting point is 00:14:35 as you just said it's kind of like one of like the hardest things to do it's you know how many times you do this with like you know like with plant playing it like a certain way and like well yeah because i'm i'm trying not to get woo-woo and spiritual no let's do it but yeah those are yeah those riffs are come like those patterns tend to come from you inside it tends to be like very like from from within so kind of how it's why someone's
Starting point is 00:15:03 rift stick so you know i wore i wore that timing come from where that how do they do that again but it's a little difference because it's like it comes from within you know that that brings me like kind of a question that comedians do? Like, I'm curious if you ever do, do you ever, like, hum, like, a, like, you have a riff idea and you're like, okay, I don't want to lose this. So you pull out your phone, you, like, just record audio. All the time. All the time.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Because you know comedians do that with jokes. Yeah. It's like the same kind of thing. Yeah, you're trying to catch a light in a bottle. Yeah. You know, it's like, get the idea down, which, I mean, I say this a lot when I'm talking to anybody about, like, you know. If you get any idea for anything,
Starting point is 00:15:46 even if you're talking like music or art or video or idea, just put it down. Put it down in your notes or hum it or say it. Like because your brain always like, it fucking pisses me off. But it never goes away. It's like, you don't need to put it down. You don't. Oh, you'll remember that idea.
Starting point is 00:16:07 You'll remember that riff, but you never ever do. You can get close. You'll get super close, but it'll never be the. the exact same thought that you had in that moment. Isn't it weird how like, there's like thoughts that can get like partially lost? It's not like you completely forgot, but it's different enough to where it'll piss you off.
Starting point is 00:16:25 Of course. Yeah. Yeah, probably lost another unanswered. Oh, that's so simple. I could definitely remember that one. Yeah, I'll remember how to play that. It's like. Wake up?
Starting point is 00:16:35 No, it's gone forever. It's gone forever. Forever. You can never get that idea back. Especially those like genius, like mid-sleep thoughts. you know, when you're in that weird, like, a REM sleep. Yeah. You know, you're in a different place in your brain
Starting point is 00:16:49 when you're coming up with those ideas. Yeah. Yeah, you're right. That's, like, one of my weaknesses as a writer because I try to, like, be like, okay, you wake up or you, for whatever reason, like, at 3 a.m. I'm like, oh, she, for some reason, you wake up and you have, like, an idea.
Starting point is 00:17:03 Yeah. I'm like, you know what? I'm just lazy. I'm going to remember it when I wake up. You never do. You never do. So I try to get up and, like, either play it or I'll hum it.
Starting point is 00:17:13 and then go back to bed. Yeah. But like I, you are tested so much in that moment because it's like, shit. I mean, you're so lazy. You're so tired.
Starting point is 00:17:24 And you wake up early the next day because you have a, you have a video shoot or you're going to work or, or what have you. But I'm trying to work on it. I am trying to work on that. Like, you know,
Starting point is 00:17:34 either get the fuck up and play it or just hum it and then go back to bed because you will forget it. You always forget it. It's just one of those things like, even though it sucks because it always happens at any inconvenient time like you got to do it it's like going to the gym yeah you know it's like just one of those things like it's never like oh i'm excited like this is going to be amazing like but you just you you got to get it down because it's just one of those things that that
Starting point is 00:17:59 you're going to thank yourself later for doing absolutely and yeah you're right it's like going to gym never really gets easier you're just like oh i'll just fucking i got to do this i'll wake up this time and know, just do this and it's got to grind it out. And it ever gets easier. I've been playing guitarist and I was, fuck, I don't know, almost 25 years. And still, I would argue it's even harder or argue because when you're self-aware or something, we're conscious of it, it's like, oh, this is a problem, this is an issue. But when you try to work towards the issue or fix it, it's like, oh, why, this is really
Starting point is 00:18:31 difficult. It's also harder, right? Because as you get older, you gain knowledge. Being self-aware can sometimes make things more difficult because you're, you know it's in your head more like totally yeah no i definitely agree with that um i just try not get into self-help stuff when i when we do this but it just comes out i'll do like a really quick quick story this was actually yesterday um because i think we're an official podcast we got Wi-Fi here officially oh yeah so uh official so jay has literally what's called fiber yeah fiber optics yeah we got
Starting point is 00:19:05 some quick quick Wi-Fi um so he's the pull-it-up king now i had the something happened where the signal was not what they expected so they had to come here multiple times. I came around Monday and Tuesday and it was pouring rain. Oh man. There's a difference between rain and drizzle
Starting point is 00:19:23 and heavy rain. This was heavy rain. And driving on the freeway, I'm like, I cannot like see. It's scary. I have very good eyesight. That's one thing that God blessed me with. It's like, oh, you have great
Starting point is 00:19:39 a damn near perfect vision. So if I'm struggling to see, I'm like, I get really sketched out on the field way. I'm like, imagine everybody else. I was like this is literally, I mean, you're driving like, and there's trucks, like, both side. I'm like, and you can't see anything.
Starting point is 00:19:52 I'm just like, oh, dude, this is scary. But the thing about that, and why I brand it up is that, you got to do certain things to be self-aware. You know, I mean, for, for me, I'm going to wrap this up now, but I mean, for me, you got to read books.
Starting point is 00:20:10 I got to meditate, go to the gym. It puts you in that mind that self-aware mindset and it just makes you you. Yeah. You know, I mean, I skipped the gym. I didn't meditate. I barely read this because I had to come here early, actually, to meet the technician. Right. Just in 48 hours, I was.
Starting point is 00:20:38 was like not not myself like i couldn't like things just don't click i ideas don't click i'm like damn it's so i mean i relate that to people that are driving that they don't know anything right they're just fucking driving they're that they're in that like other flow state you know they're like just yeah going through the fucking emotion and river like damn it's it's scary you do autopilot when you drive especially far drives you will your brain will kind of it'll it'll shut off into that autopilot mode where like you're only like You're not really, like, self-aware.
Starting point is 00:21:10 You're just kind of going. I know, dude. It's scary how quick it happens, dude. It's really scary. And it just never gets easier. He's got to do what I do. Yeah. You know, I think it's something that we all have in common.
Starting point is 00:21:22 We're just doing what we got to do. Yes, make it happen, try to enjoy the things you can enjoy in the process, you know. Find a way to make it, you know, enjoyable. Yeah, God damn it, dude. You got to fucking go ahead of gym. Sucks. And I'm also short. short and
Starting point is 00:21:39 not the strongest so you got it but yeah you know I mean it's there's something about it man you're fucking it's it will increase a discipline which will you know
Starting point is 00:21:49 it ties everything together okay we wake up at fucking 4 a.m. I could you know track this riff real quick yeah not be a lazy piece of shit but you know
Starting point is 00:21:59 I'm not successful that's one of my weaknesses but good news is I mean there's always something to work on always man you know yeah you could always improve your craft
Starting point is 00:22:09 and then you involve with improving your craft is fucking passionate. I'm trying not to talk about this shit. Oh no, it's very true though. Because it's, you know, anybody, even people at the top of the gauntlet can always improve.
Starting point is 00:22:23 You know what I mean? Like, dude, and what's even crazy about that? You could improve on the most basic thing. Like, for me, it's, I mean, obviously I'm in this band that's known as for simple risk, but you could practice just the same thing, do right your whole life and still improve it.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Like for me, it's like downpicking. Yeah. I like down picking and doing the trail I'm low and the fucking, like, I'm what, I'm what have you, but like, yeah, like, damn, the longer I practice that, it gets better. Oh, for sure. It doesn't stop either. Yeah. It's so nuts.
Starting point is 00:22:53 There's a concept I've always thought, like, there's something I think that's better than perfect. You know what I mean? There's perfection and then there's like second nature. It's like beyond. Yeah. You know, where it's like, it's just you. It's a group, like, you know, like, you know, like, you know, like, you know, Like in music, they call it just like a pocket where you get into that deep, deep pocket and you just like understand the music on a deeper level.
Starting point is 00:23:15 I think so too. Yeah. It's not about technical ability. It's a feeling thing. It is, yeah. You know. I notice some more you practice. Some people don't like, especially guitar players, I don't like when I say this, but you could make the strings do what you're trying to make them do more.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Yeah. The more you practice. Yeah. Just the same skill. Yeah. I'm just doing, I'm playing either Ramones or Slipknot or some Metallica songs because they're really hard to play with downpicking stuff. Oh yeah, Metallica for sure. Hours, hours, it's fucking, and like it still improves.
Starting point is 00:23:50 It doesn't just stop. Oh, this is how good you are. Yeah. It's like this, you just keep getting better. I'm like, oh, I could like do more with the strings more. And am I going to choke it like or am I going to make it like, like, you could like kind of make the strings kind of breathe more. It's like being comfortable more than anything else, right? Like being comfortable with your instrument.
Starting point is 00:24:12 That too. And also, this is not for everybody. It's not for everybody. But for me, I kind of noticed that like when you're drinking or you smoke, you go to where you are as far as your skill level. Yeah. So for guitar playing, I notice if I'm practicing a lot, like a lot, and I start drinking, if I get a little buzz, if I'm drunk or something, I'm like that skill is still there. It's like boom, boom, boom.
Starting point is 00:24:40 Like you're not really thinking. It doesn't go away. It's just boom there. I notice like I'm not practicing as much I used to or drinking, oh, it's not like something's missing. Right. So yeah, I guess just trying to get obsessed with making that shit always be there. I guess finding the right formula, right? To where it's like you're enjoying it and you're improving.
Starting point is 00:25:02 You know, I mean, ultimately you want to just like go up on stage and just. love it like you want to like have the best experience possible totally I think that's what Dianbad did like he was known the work the the the rumors are he just played all the time he had a guitar in his bathroom oh yeah that's those are those are the rumors and it makes sense but also the other rumors is he got hammered before he started playing also makes sense but it makes sense because if you're always practicing like if you're drunk you're just skill is still and because then you're kind of just autopilot you're kind of just autopilot piloting, right?
Starting point is 00:25:37 You're just letting it roll, right? Yeah. There is something about that. Like, when I've seen, you know, artists perform and they're a little buzzed or whatever, it might be, like, it is interesting to see them kind of go in, like, I like that word, you use a flow state. You see them go into this, like, it's just their natural consciousness coming out. It's not forced.
Starting point is 00:26:02 It's not like them trying to even have a persona or anything. It's just their natural state. being just pretty cool it's fucking badass dude yeah what we're trying to do trying to get that flow state yeah and whether you do that sober or sure you know or buzz or whatever
Starting point is 00:26:16 it might be that's cool either way yep for me personally it's getting kind of drunk yep cheers to that yeah cheers to that cheers to heinikin oh yeah cheers these uh
Starting point is 00:26:29 those ike's honeykin man dosecchi's uh shout out to to michael i met him at the zoom show we are now partnered with Tosekis, Heineken, and Nikate. Pretty sick, dude. Cheers, dude. Yeah, cheers.
Starting point is 00:26:41 Cheers. Good, bad ass, dude. Cheers, everybody at home. Boom, boom. Cheers, guys. Heck, yeah. So, it's Thursday. What are your plans this weekend?
Starting point is 00:26:52 Let me see. I have a shoot on Saturday. Cool. No plans for the rest of the weekend. Nice. See what I get into. Nice. Yeah, what about you?
Starting point is 00:27:03 Sunday I have going archery. shooting for the first time oh sick sounds fun so yeah my uh my lady likes to do that so um i learned that i'm i'm just saying yes to everything you know just say not everything but you know yeah just saying not not not everything not take your shirt up everything huh not to docking let's talk our dicks right now it's it's all about connection guys i'll try anything once bro it's all about connection don't be a dick yeah but yeah archer shooting Dude, that's fun. I've done that a couple times.
Starting point is 00:27:40 I'm going to be there, I'm going to know how to kill, basically, by Sunday. I'm not going to lie, man. It is kind of crazy the amount of power that, like, an arrow has when you shoot it. You really feel it. Like, it's like this gust to win. It's pretty nuts.
Starting point is 00:27:58 It looks fun, dude. It's a good time. And then when you nail a bullseye, it's, like, the most satisfying feeling. I'm probably going to get there just kill it. Oh, yeah. I'm basically going to, yeah, I'm basically a train killer.
Starting point is 00:28:12 I'm 48 hours. Oh, yeah. You're just going to pull up with bow and arrow from now on. Yep. You're going to pull up. Yeah, that's how you're going to roll. Just carry it. Like, you know, when you're a kid and you have the guitar?
Starting point is 00:28:23 You're the kid with the guitar. You're going to be like Link from Zelda. Just got the bow and arrows on you. Sick. So I'm doing that. Some boring stuff. Scheduling future. Nice.
Starting point is 00:28:34 Because obviously this is coming out, obviously. And then we're going to do one more episode with us. And then starting that's when shows they're going to be in town. Oh, yeah. So we got our next guest would be Carcoza. Oh, yeah. That's they're sick. And then Torin will officially start in that.
Starting point is 00:28:54 I forgot how many emails I sent out. Jesus. Yeah. But Toron's going to start. Yesterday, there's a reason why we don't announce. guest because sometimes they postpone or they cancel it's just pretty common but hopefully this happens but we're gonna have our first flying band guest oh I'm excited and that's gonna be in February and you guys are all gonna shit guys and ladies will
Starting point is 00:29:16 shit their pants guys aren't ready for this one oh my oh my goodness I'm fucking stoked it's a big one first first flying first I mean legendary too like obviously we say you know this the heaviest podcast of all time it was like a lighthearted joke but yeah kind of serious at the same time but this is if they they're all this is probably gonna make it official i mean that will literally be the happiest episode at least yeah yeah probably up all time yeah holy shit so yeah uh we'll do next do more scheduling uh ours you're shooting obviously and then uh yeah sick that's pretty much it sounds like fun the days flat by dude holy shit yeah i know it is so far this year is yeah it's this it's this
Starting point is 00:30:02 it's this flying dude yeah yeah Next week we'll have fun doing this, and then it's when we're going to do a lot of shows. Shows are happening quick. Quick, dude. Yeah. All right, Jay, what we have here, man? We've got some new news. Yes, so we've got Ladwire just released the 50 best new metal albums of all time.
Starting point is 00:30:25 And I just wanted to see if you guys agree, disagree, what would your personal choices be? It's going to take two hours to go through. This is literally my subject. Each one, we're going to have to argue. whether it's the top. So we're going to try to bust through this. It's going to be good of 40 minutes probably. All right, let's go.
Starting point is 00:30:41 Here we go. You know, new metal had a firm grip on music for like 10 years, right? Like, what did you say, 94 to 04? Pretty much, yeah. You could argue still it's stronger now and ever, you know? Yeah, now it's had a resurgence. Yeah. Combining elements of metal, electronic, funk, hip-hop.
Starting point is 00:30:59 Of course. It's like a huge aesthetic of it. And, yeah. He's list, dude. I'm definitely a child of that time. Same. So coming in at number 50 is Crazy Towns, the gift of the game. That came out of 99?
Starting point is 00:31:12 Oh, wow. Wow. That's crazy. It's definitely from that era. Do you guys want to go to number one? Want to see what number one is? Not yet, not yet. Yeah, let's scroll through it.
Starting point is 00:31:20 Let's not blow our lids yet. Yeah, let's kind of have us skimmed through it. The guards are going to flip the table like, oh, you guys. Hell no. This is not new metal. Posers, you're opposers. It's going to be like Billy Elish. No, I'm kidding.
Starting point is 00:31:33 Dan, that would be. I mean. Okay, so this record number 48, Heppe E broke came out in year 2000. If you're not familiar with Heppe E, or at least this record broke, it is amazing. The bartender? Dude.
Starting point is 00:31:48 That song is fucking sick, dude. This is a bedroom mosh album for sure. Yeah, what's you, I think I have a song called Killing Time. Yeah. Killing time, right? P.E. Head P.E. They haven't was sick.
Starting point is 00:32:04 So, yeah, they, That belongs there for sure. Can you remember like bros with the hats? Lifting truck. Lifted truck band for sure. Round point. Primer 55. Okay, so this one, so 45 taproot gift came out in 2000.
Starting point is 00:32:20 That's a great one. Cool. Taprood's classic. They were drop A. Saliva. Oh, yeah. Come on. Dude, saliva.
Starting point is 00:32:29 Yeah. Yeah. He said, yeah, sure. It's there. Power Man 5,000. Power Man, 5,000. Yeah, how many video games was this band in? Dude, that one song, right?
Starting point is 00:32:40 When Worlds Collide? Yeah. That game, that song was in like three different video games, I think. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, it's also a good record. I bought that record for sure. To not as far as people. Definitely, what was it?
Starting point is 00:32:52 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Yeah. You gotta get these guys on the podcast, dude. Oh, this record's 42 Spineshank, the height of Caliphon. It's like. When you see a list like this, you're like, all these records came out at night. 2009, 2000.
Starting point is 00:33:06 It's crazy. Great music, man. 99 to, like, 2002 had so many good albums. Yeah. And so, like, just original, just like... Yeah, every band had their own sound, too.
Starting point is 00:33:17 There was no genre. They didn't... I don't think they were aware if there was a genre. They were just doing stuff. No, they didn't even call it new metal until after the new metal happened, basically.
Starting point is 00:33:26 The media pretty much called it new metal. Yeah. No, that goes. Because all these bands are so different. Deathcore, same thing. You're called Deathcore. You're like,
Starting point is 00:33:33 Everyone's going to rip it off and not give you any credit. You're like, I was just mixing. I was just mixing slam with new metal. I didn't know there was a name for it. What do you think about 40? 40 is good. Oh, yeah. Quina touchable is great record.
Starting point is 00:33:48 They went pretty spacey, which is I always appreciate. I like how they experimented on this one for sure. Yeah, bands like that, I'm not going to, I'm trying not to compare myself to them or put myself in the same sentence. But when you're kind of like, in that, position, it's really tough because everyone starts to rip you off and you kind of like have to, you have to do something else. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:11 Yeah. Yeah. You don't want to be accused of ripping off your own sound that you start. It's like, yeah. No, I get it. Go back up, Jay. Go back up. So 38 machine head to bring your red.
Starting point is 00:34:24 That's a sick record, dude. That is a really good one. If you listen to that record, there's hits. From this day. Dude, come on, dude. Come on. It's a bang. They actually play that for my birthday.
Starting point is 00:34:41 Oh, really? Yeah, we're on tour with them. I turned, I forgot what I was, wow, I don't even know. 23 or something. That's a sick birthday gift. It's a sick gift. Yeah, that's awesome. So shout out to Robin and Machinehead.
Starting point is 00:34:57 Great, great record. I'm glad to see him actually playing songs from that record. Machine had very influential band. For sure. Yeah. Rob Flynn. They were never really, I wasn't, I liked that record, but I wasn't, like, inspired by him. They're just, like, it's a, I just love that one song.
Starting point is 00:35:13 Yeah, I know. But that band in general, for sure, is, like, influenced a lot of people. A lot of bands are inspired by it. Mm-hmm. By them. 36, Orgy canned, yes. 98. Dude, that was.
Starting point is 00:35:25 Dude, Orgy. I mean, that Blue Monday cover was pretty much. Yeah. The thing about Orgy is that, and I'm in real time, literally right now, I've been, doing some research on Orgy the past week and they're tied in deeply to this genre in a way
Starting point is 00:35:41 it's funny because the next one actually ties into that record. Okay. Well, go ahead. I was going to say something about them too. Yeah. They're like, there's something, there's, I don't know. Like some guys are from Bakersfield that were hanging out with the corn guys. Do you know about the Queen of the Dam thing
Starting point is 00:35:57 like Jay Gordon and yeah? Because he worked on the whole soundtrack with Jonathan. Which is insane. And like, so I'm talking pre-new metal. Yeah. This is so, okay. Oh, so even before that. Yeah, so go down and 35 is, oh my gosh, what a record.
Starting point is 00:36:15 Cold Chamber is self-titled 97. If you look at the credits on the first Cold Chamber record, there's names of orgy guys in the credits. Oh, wow. I'm like, I don't, I don't want to put my words in this one else's mouth, but I'm like, There's something about orgy that's deeply tied to the genre. I'm currently trying to figure it out. Is it Jay that kind of bridged that gap? Because I know he knew a lot of those guys.
Starting point is 00:36:43 Jay, Bumgardner? Baumgardner? Let's see. There's always Wiki. Yeah. Seater, Alien Ant Farm, POD. I don't think. Wait, who?
Starting point is 00:36:58 Oh, wait, let's go a little bit back toward that era. I'm not sure who that is. 1997. Damn. I'm not sure who that is. Batman and Robin. No, I'm kidding. No, go. Okay, let's go back. Well, let's see.
Starting point is 00:37:18 Oh, yeah, so Amir. Amir? Engineering mixing. So he's, uh, Amir is an orgy. Okay. So I'm like, what, like, what is that? There's a connection. Jake, that's interesting.
Starting point is 00:37:35 Um someone else involved with that watch go go to the Wikipedia Orgy Van Wiki so I'm a funny funny thing about this record
Starting point is 00:37:47 my parents wouldn't let me buy this record because it said orgy Orgy and candy ass That's probably Yeah Not for kids In time in a day it's letting me
Starting point is 00:37:57 And I got a brutal trap I'm like well I guess he could I mean Yeah Yeah Jake Look up the first cold chamber Look up that record be a
Starting point is 00:38:14 wiki there we go boom cool down down down personnel there's j oh wait yeah see j j gordon boom yeah j gordon boom yeah
Starting point is 00:38:28 j gordon i see so he yeah he's the i think he's the guy that bridged a lot of gaps singer of orgy well yeah go back j oh shit what i do um
Starting point is 00:38:43 production well it's on there production and mixing additional vocals on oddie. Auditie's fuck that wet is sick fucking
Starting point is 00:38:50 fucking Julian K did by Sunrise and one of the dudes from Orgy was also I think he was
Starting point is 00:38:59 in sex art with John he was right I think he was I think and I'm pretty sure that's
Starting point is 00:39:04 how the whole Queen of the Dam thing happened probably if it was around that same time well Queen
Starting point is 00:39:08 and Dan when you're talking post corn blowing up that's like 2000 era well type in when did
Starting point is 00:39:13 when the Queen the Dam come out um you're probably right i think it was like right after they blew up there's probably like 99 2000 oh 2 yeah yeah so it was after i'm talking like 92 um like literally i mean a whole decade before yeah i'm talking like before all this when they were like probably like growing up together
Starting point is 00:39:36 as kids or whatever like teenagers go down jay this is the cold chamber uh yeah actually go to go to Go to Orgy again. Boom. Go down, down. Let's see. Go to band members or, let's see. Type, okay, hit Ryan. Boom.
Starting point is 00:40:03 Ryan, so Ryan, this guy's, he's a fucking legend and no one ever talks about him. Ryan Chuck. Okay, so. Wait, wait, say, stay there. Let's see Rock Simon. Oh, Bob, and Chuck. Ryan played in the Bakersfield-based rock band Sex Art alongside future corn lead singer Jonathan Davis.
Starting point is 00:40:24 Oh, wow. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'm curious what that is. Yeah, I guess they must have grown up together. I got to get, I got to get Jane here. You got to ask that. I'm really curious how all this thing. There's definitely a deep connection.
Starting point is 00:40:42 Is that Bakersfield just angst? I mean, it's a small, you know, kind of a small area. I bet everyone knows everyone out there. Yeah. All right, what's next? Anyways, listen to first cold chamber. Listen to candy ass orgy. It's sick as fuck.
Starting point is 00:40:56 Both great records. Dirty-four. Drainin-pull center. Sick as fuck. I mean, yeah. Come on. Bodies, bro. Come on.
Starting point is 00:41:02 Yeah. Oh, yeah. Stained. We're getting to the... Yeah, Stain 99. Dysfunction. The most underrated heavy record of all time. If you guys don't know,
Starting point is 00:41:12 Stained has a super, super, super heavy album. A lot of people don't know that. It's like crazy. Disfunion? Yeah. That first record, because it went to a radio after, that first record is sick, dude. I was listening to it last week, actually. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:25 I listen all the time. I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about. Soulfly. Soul fly. That's a great record. It was right after, uh, yeah, subatoried roots, 96 and then, uh, whatever happened to Max and them. Right. Now, now we have two sick bands.
Starting point is 00:41:43 I know, two at, two at once. Two fucking, too, uh, it's crazy. Epic, heavy band, seven dust, legendary. Yeah, self-title. Staple in the genre and so many bands rip off seven dusts, it is fucking insane. Yeah, yeah, again, like all these bands are so... Created the metalcore formula, basically. Metalcore bands now gent, dude, seven-duzz was like,
Starting point is 00:42:04 Jesus, dude. That funk kind of like, disturbed. Disturbed, yeah. Massive band, great guys. This is a little newer. I remember this. I never really jammed that record, 10,000 fists. It was a little more modern, I feel like, compared to.
Starting point is 00:42:17 I saw them, like at OzFest, around when this album came out. This is when they were, like, big, big, like, you know, right when they blew up. Yeah. This one has that sick track, Land of Confusion. Oh, yeah. Yeah. He's a Genesis cover, but that's just Genty. Yeah, that was cool.
Starting point is 00:42:34 I like how they did that. It's like, da, do, do, do, do, do, do. Oh, yeah, dude, Dan Donagan has some sick chug patterns. Yeah. He does, right? I'm like, if you listen to it, I'm like, dude, that's a sick fucking pattern, dude. It's just that their songs are super poppy and catchy that you don't realize that there's a lot going on. It's like 4-4, but it's like...
Starting point is 00:42:54 And they don't try to make it complicated, which I think that's why people like to start. It's simple and to the point. Just fucking give us something to bounce, dude, Dan Donagan is fucking sick. And there's something about his playing style and like David Drayman's vocals. They like play off of each other. There's a connection there, man. You cannot deny it. Obviously, they headlined all these festivals, so they did something right.
Starting point is 00:43:18 Yeah. 100%. SIG vocalist. 29, 7-Dust animosity. Seven dust is a two-time champ on this list here. We just saw him play that record front to back, dude. Dude, it was good. Dude, it was so good, man.
Starting point is 00:43:33 Yeah. One of the best shows of last year for sure. POD satellite. It's a good one. That had a hits on it. Yeah, a lot of hits. Like five or something like that. A lot of hits.
Starting point is 00:43:43 And keep going. Pretty sick. Pretty sick. Oh my goodness 27 Wisconsin death trip 99s Sick ass album title
Starting point is 00:43:51 To rest and peace Wayne dude Yeah I was a big Static X fan for a long time Like I got super into them They have a new like Anonymous frontman right It's kind of like the ghost of
Starting point is 00:44:03 He like wears Wayne's Mask and stuff Yeah that's pretty cool That's crazy Wayne was he's an interesting guy man We did a one tour with them It was the last time they They had the OG lineup
Starting point is 00:44:14 oh wow and we were sharing it was the first fucking show it was like them like mudbane we had the poster here yeah it's a sick lineup
Starting point is 00:44:25 it's a pretty sick lineup we're sharing a dress room and he walks in and goes you guys are fucking serious and he's fucking he's cool it was like
Starting point is 00:44:33 and then didn't talk to us like the rest of the tour he just had to let you know like no one like no one hung out with him really it was weird
Starting point is 00:44:41 that's weird that's what I heard he was kind of like to himself you know He seemed really fucking cool, man. And, God damn, his vocals are sick, dude. He had his own, yeah, his own sound for sure.
Starting point is 00:44:51 Shout out Wayne, dude. I met him once. He was really nice. Much of, like, original guys from that era, dude. Yeah. Just doing their own thing. Well, we got adrenaline. Adrenaline 95.
Starting point is 00:45:05 Nice. Yeah. I mean, yeah. I personally skipped the record. I'm not sure why. I keep trying to go back, but. It's a good one. I don't think it's their best, but I think,
Starting point is 00:45:14 for them doing the new metal sound, there's some bangers on there for sure. Maybe, like, stuff. They had that low, eight-stim string, eight-string stuff. It's a little more, yeah,
Starting point is 00:45:23 it's definitely a little more, like, metal core than any other other stuff. Yeah, as far as having, like, breakdowns and stuff, it's one of the only deftones records that has that.
Starting point is 00:45:32 And get best signs, 25, amazing record. Is that new metal? Yeah, it's from the era, but I don't know if it's new metal. It's weird. That's why new metal is kind of weird,
Starting point is 00:45:42 right? I think it's a very, wide umbrella now it's like it's like metalcore there's like super poppy stuff so many count it as metalcore you know there's so many kinds man
Starting point is 00:45:54 yeah there we go chocolate stuffish I mean it's classic you can't go wrong so 24 lim biscuit chocolate service and a hot tub water they uh we're just at 24 I wonder what's gonna be
Starting point is 00:46:07 number one it's it's gonna get yeah so we're so we're trying to fly by this because it's taking a while also a berber with this uh 20 oh my goodness 40 yeah that's a good one too my vein 23 ld 50 heavy record chat's vocals are insane dude the bass great guy yeah let's get through our bill you all fantastic keep going let's see the first p o d 21 99 oh that's a great record too pretty cool yeah popper roach huge that's great hits amazing man kid rock okay
Starting point is 00:46:43 So let's... Here we go. Now we're getting to the controversial. So we need to let people know what the fuck is up with this one. So 19, Kidorock, Devil Valley Cause. Huge record because anyone that combines things in such an extreme way brings in a whole new fan base to heavy shit. I agree.
Starting point is 00:47:01 And Kidder Rock did that, man. He did it. Real quick about this record, their producers named John Travis. He produced the cleansing. And no one ever... talks about it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:15 No one ever talks about it. But yeah, I don't even know why we agree with. But John Travis, he produced that record. He did like Sugar Ray or like this. It made no sense. On paper, it made no fucking sense. But that's why it came out the way it did, I think. Approaching it.
Starting point is 00:47:33 He would approach that in a different way. Look at this list. I'm not trying to talk myself up. No, that's real. John Travis, his history includes work with such artists. as Kid Rock, Social Distortion, Static X, Buck Cherry, Suicide Silence, No Doubt, Sugar Ray. That's a weird list to be a part of. That's an awesome list.
Starting point is 00:47:53 Sick. And that's probably why the cleansing sounds the way it sounds, because, you know, from a production standpoint, it was approached from, like, mostly, like, a pop songwriting stand. Like, he's going to approach it in a way different way than, like, a metal, traditional metal producer would approach it. Totally. You know. She's sick. It's why Bancet came out.
Starting point is 00:48:13 after that record they just don't have they don't have a sound that like uh we're so them yeah because i mean you kind of have to go to like not like a metal producer you get i mean i think it's smart it's really smart the way you guys did that they're songs instead of just like heavy stuff heavy sounds they're like they're songs yeah no i mean and it's like super catchy from front to back so and s has always been we're not who who oh what are they doing? Who cares? We're going to do what we do. Exactly. And sometimes, you know, shit hits and it's a big success.
Starting point is 00:48:50 Other times you do a record and it flaps and people think you're done and washed up. That's fine too. But that's the price of being a leader. You got to take chances, though. You got to take risks. So bands after you could have kind of like a road. Yeah. I mean, someone's got to do it.
Starting point is 00:49:07 Someone's got to fucking do it. They're not going to do it. I will. You got to be a gangster. You guys are brave for that. And, you know, it's showing. I think people will like this self-titled in like 10 years from now. Around the Fur, now viral on TikTok, so.
Starting point is 00:49:22 Is it? Why? Just, there's so many memes and, like, little trends that have popped up with this album. Well, it's a phenomenal record. Gen Z discovering it. Yeah, pretty much Gen Z discovered around the fur. Oh, fuck it. That's cool. Mesmerize. Great.
Starting point is 00:49:37 I love that. I love that album. That's around the time I saw them live was when that album dropped. That's sick. Yeah. C corn issues 15. I mean 99.
Starting point is 00:49:46 Oh, the next 15 are going to be insane. All right. This is the top 15. This is the cream of the crops. It's got to be the best. All right.
Starting point is 00:49:52 Honestly, I'm not surprised. This is not number one. Yeah. Me too. For me, I don't know, it's weird.
Starting point is 00:49:57 Okay. Significant other 99 at number 14. Has Nokey rolling. Yeah. No, only nookie. Oh, not rolling.
Starting point is 00:50:06 Oh, yeah, that's chocolate. Yeah. Okay, okay, my bad. Let's go to 13. Oh, this is subliminal. That's a good. Damn, this is a great album.
Starting point is 00:50:15 I'm not mad about that. That was a beautiful album. Yeah, this is, records like that are what you call, like, legit, like, art pieces. It's like, it's like a masterpiece. It's a start to finish. The way, like, it flows, like, that can never be touched. That's a no-skip album.
Starting point is 00:50:29 The disc, remember the disc? Oh, yeah. It was just beautiful to look at. And it exposed Slipknot to, like, such a diverse crowd of people. Like, this is really the album that did it. Volume 3, man, it's a master. masterpiece. Yeah, what's one of my favorites of all time? Kind of one of those things I'll never be touched.
Starting point is 00:50:47 It's like, that's that. I would kind of argue it should be higher, honestly. Yeah, I would put this way higher in the list. I would put this not on best. I put it top five. I was put on best albums ever. Yeah, yeah, I agree with that. Yeah, super colorful and heavy at the same time. It's like beautiful as it is heavy. Yeah. Well, the one of Grammy for it before I forget. Oh, that's right. I mean, that's that song is like, what the most well-written rock songs period.
Starting point is 00:51:15 Mm-hmm. You know? Yeah. Let's go. All right. Make yourself good. Make yourself. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:20 There you go. That's the one I listen to all the time when it comes to Incubis. It's beautiful. I mean, I'm a fan of Incubis for sure. Evanescence, I mean. If you're a fan of Evanescence, they're fucking sick. Evanescence, you can maybe argue, maybe at least helped create the Maldoth genre. Like, they made that whole thing.
Starting point is 00:51:40 And I don't even mean that in a negative way. Like, I actually love a lot of bands that fall under that genre. Shout out to Moldga. Yeah. Fuck, yeah. Like, hot topic culture and stuff like that. Like, dude, evanescence. Of course.
Starting point is 00:51:52 We're back to Disturb. The sickness. The sickness. What if? Phenomenal record, dude. Yeah, I mean, incredible. Tell him the sickness. I mean, you're talking, like, how do you write a song like that?
Starting point is 00:52:02 Damn. So good. Simple, right? But, damn. Yeah. Yeah. The thing is a feeling. That song is just like...
Starting point is 00:52:09 I feel it right now. That's one of those songs that's going to be around. you know 50 years from now yeah of course people will know about this song certified platinum five times the sickness you guys heard a first certified banger
Starting point is 00:52:20 uh oh all right number nine follow the leader I'm curious what's top five because this is my number one okay that was gonna say can you speak to this one right
Starting point is 00:52:31 okay so go down a little bit let's see what's the most that's the most successful obviously corn's most commercially successful record I mean yeah this is
Starting point is 00:52:41 what, to me, this is the most important and greatest new metal record of all the time on a planet. It will never be touched. I agree. It came out in 98th. I mean, cornered so much for the heavy scene and it's still happening.
Starting point is 00:52:57 I mean, talk about like death core band is coming out, like taking new metal influences and adding singing to the songs and all that kind of stuff. Yeah, I mean, you're talking like yeah. Oh, that that video, we don't
Starting point is 00:53:13 gotta put a ball in, but let's just let it play. Yeah, I was just going to get the visuals. Let's get the visuals going while I'm talking. Yeah. Oh my goodness, dude. When I saw this video as a kid, it literally changed my life. Literally, uh, wow, dude.
Starting point is 00:53:33 That's the L.A. Yeah. We're talking about a band. Still, A. Tune of A, low tuning, and seven strings. And then like the LA culture that's associated with, I don't know, it's, you know, growing up here, I definitely think it hits different.
Starting point is 00:53:51 They put low tuning. This shit's on the radio, dude. Yeah. It's like, my parents know who corn is now. And they did it with such swag, though. You know what I mean? Like, they did it with such style, like, I think that's what people love about corn is that it's, like, fun to listen to, you know?
Starting point is 00:54:07 It is. Like, look at this video. Like, if, you know what I mean? Like, if you know what I mean? Like, if you just report. replaced the band and then like had this be like a rap video yeah you wouldn't question it you know do you want me to throw the uh yeah sure these are my favorite vocals of all time oh yeah sorry it's so good yeah i mean dude like he timeless he screams throughout that that that whole fucking part dude and yeah god dude yeah and this like the slap bass it's it's it's everything it's like each member
Starting point is 00:54:55 bring something really cool. Everything that that's the dance beat kind of thing yeah exactly but still like
Starting point is 00:55:05 heavy yeah the old disco beat and then David's druming like so good that's why that's why they're corn man they like they touched on something like holy shit
Starting point is 00:55:15 everything I felt as a kid they just to me it's that like it's that California vibe like in the 90s if you grew up in California in the 90s I don't even have to explain what that is
Starting point is 00:55:27 but it's a certain, it's like no matter what your background was ethnically or whatever. Like you kind of grew up like either liking like hip hop or punk or skating. And like it's like it encapsulates that whole vibe. Everything. Into one band, you know. Yet they transcend the music. It turned into a culture, essentially speaking. It's so hard to do that.
Starting point is 00:55:49 Like to like, oh, let's encapsulate a whole culture and then make it a band. Like that's insane that they were able to accomplish that with this record. Like insane dude. It's awesome. I mean so many bands are inspired by by this fucking band dude me us being one of them dude saw saw that song fell in love with them and they they're on tour of Rob Zombie like right after so my dad oh yeah too me seemed like that that was it I saw corn on there that was that changed everything. Oh especially seeing them live that changed everything that's it yeah still it's the it's it's it's it's it's I'm 37 now I was what 12 13 I still have the same vision in my head now.
Starting point is 00:56:27 Yeah. Following my dream because of, of these guys. And then you're talking, you know, I'm not trying to talk myself up about pseudence, but we would not be here without corn. Yeah. And take out sullizance, death court does not exist. I was going to say, I feel like a lot. It doesn't exist.
Starting point is 00:56:44 So many modern heavy bands would not exist without the sound that corn created. Put it down. You know what I mean? Because like before them, it was like grunge, thrash metal and death metal. You know what I mean? Like, there was not the variety of sounds that we have now. Yeah. Before them, you know.
Starting point is 00:57:03 And they stood for like, I mean, the title of the record followed the leader. And when you see that as a kid and you start your own band, you know, say what you want about SS. But like, you know, we're always leaders. I got it from from them. To do your own thing. Like, do your own thing. No matter what, yeah. They had, they just
Starting point is 00:57:26 something about it, man. There's something very respectable about that, you know. They do your own thing, combine things, and don't make sense. Have people talk to you on you. People aren't going to like it. Because when the record came out, like the hardcore scene in the criminal scene was like, eh-uh.
Starting point is 00:57:39 Yeah. Oh, fuck this. Same thing with, I mean, most new metal bands, Slipknot, got a lot of hate too. And now New Metal is, we're finally at a point where like New Metal gets the respect it deserves. Totally.
Starting point is 00:57:51 Which rightfully so, you know. Totally, man. just do your own thing push to genre as far as you can maximize it long hair rocking out yeah people will get it eventually
Starting point is 00:58:02 it takes time sometimes but people get it eventually yeah I mean yeah deathcore took all like behind its scenes behind the music stuff that's what bands these days
Starting point is 00:58:13 over a long time don't do they take the sound or the tuning but not the energy but not the energy not not the attitude what and what created that who who
Starting point is 00:58:23 Who are these guys as people? They're all leaders. You can just take the riff. It's a whole, it's a vibe thing. It's something you can't explain. You take what's behind it sound and you do your own thing with it. Yeah. And they got striping corn, man.
Starting point is 00:58:35 I mean, that's what inspiration is versus, you know, like, I guess plagiarism, you could say. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. God, corn, you guys are sick. We got to get monkey in here, dude. Oh, yeah. It's got to happen.
Starting point is 00:58:46 Please. Coming soon. All right. Coming in at number eight is System of a Down, Self-titled. Self-titled. Sick record. This album changed a lot too. 1998.
Starting point is 00:58:55 Darren is an incredible guitar player. To meet that guy. Shout out. Shavo. Genius, man. Homie. Awesome, dude. Number seven, of course.
Starting point is 00:59:06 Number seven. Oh, yeah. I mean. 99. This is Ross Robinson's masterpiece. Oh, yeah. This band, this record is his masterpiece. We start to finish.
Starting point is 00:59:14 I mean, this is another no skip album. It's so insane. This band, that band is as big as they are. I know, right? Yeah. they have their own culture you know like their own yeah you know what I mean
Starting point is 00:59:27 across the planet people like worship this band and it's like a big part of their life you know really cool yeah really resonated this album with people I think this album changed a lot for sure people just felt that like chaotic heaviness with nine fucking people making noise
Starting point is 00:59:46 god so sick crazy it's like a force like you couldn't ignore yeah yeah exactly all right it's like Garza was saying it's just doing your own thing. Yeah. We're like owning that. Yeah, dude. This record, man.
Starting point is 00:59:58 Great, great memories. Yeah. From fucking Iowa. Just killing it. So good. Iowa boys. Ready to go to the top six. All right.
Starting point is 01:00:08 Top six. Let's go. Here we go. Okay. Yeah. You were great. I can't, yeah. You Lincoln Park.
Starting point is 01:00:14 I think I... First band I got like really, really into, for sure. Yeah. This is the first band I was obsessed with. Another band. that brought in a whole other wave of a whole other wave and generation of fans into this this heavy for me personally probably my favorite mix of hip hop and metal yeah i think it was the smoothest you know the most yeah yeah what i thought i thought i was like cutting edge just like so slick
Starting point is 01:00:43 even now right i feel like it still holds up it's still like ahead of its time because i haven't heard anyone really mix those two genres in the way they did yeah you know it's cool mike shenota shout out mike shenota dude yeah dude mike was musical genius yeah chester my favorite vocal yeah all time is chest and peace chester man friss and peace changed a lot for a lot of people his screaming dude is fucking heavy it's it's that heavy on all levels not to sound but like it's his specific scream is so like iconic yeah and you notice nobody can can't emulate it's really it's that heavy People have tried. Yeah, it's tough.
Starting point is 01:01:20 And it's this certain, like, note that he hits. Yeah. It pierces your ear. It's like a real scream. Like a real holler. That's why I like is that it's more of like a shout scream than it is. It's not a traditional metal scream. It's not like a technique.
Starting point is 01:01:33 Like a, ooh. It's like a real, like, loud scream. You can feel like the emotion. Yeah. And the scream. I think that's what makes it real. All right. Let's go top five because I got, I got a piss.
Starting point is 01:01:43 Let's go. White pony. I mean, yeah. I'm like to argue with that. It's great. Great for top five. Totally. I listen to this album at least once a week.
Starting point is 01:01:54 I agree, top five. Iowa, four. Also, yeah. Heaviest record of all time will never be topped. Yeah, super heavy. Iowa is the heaviest record on the planet. It will never be topped. Metabolic.
Starting point is 01:02:07 Good luck. Dude, there's some nasty riffs on that album. Slip monococuses drop A and get heavier. Oh, my goodness, dude. Okay, top three. There we go. Oh, okay. A point apart got the double.
Starting point is 01:02:18 All right. Of course. Yeah. I mean, it's the best Lincoln Park album, that's for sure. I thought this is going to be number one, TBH. But I also listen to this album once a week. But top three guys. It's, dude, front to back, no skip. I'm not mad at top three.
Starting point is 01:02:32 Okay. Yeah. You guys are nervous. I'm sweating, bro. All right, here we go. Oh, toxicity. Of course. Yeah, I mean.
Starting point is 01:02:42 Toxicity is massive. Dude, no one's going to argue with that. Who's, who, wait, wait. Okay. No one can argue with that. What? Wait, there is one record that... Wait, wasn't it on top 50?
Starting point is 01:02:54 Shit. Wait, okay, let me fucking... This beer's not helping my thought process. Wait, hold on. What do you guys think it was gonna be number? What do you... What's better than... I'm trying to think what has already been...
Starting point is 01:03:04 We just... We just... An amazing list. What can be number of them? Okay. You think you know? Oh, there's... As far as big album, like, there's...
Starting point is 01:03:12 There's two records that haven't been mentioned yet. Okay. Okay, my guess... Okay, we should place a bet. I don't even remember what hasn't been mentioned yet. Okay, so I feel like, damn. My guess is to frisk corn. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 01:03:30 Yeah, the self-titled. Self-titled corn. They might give it just because it's like, you know. It started it for it. It's literally what started New Metal. So they'll probably give it to them. Life is peaches on that list. Because you notice they kind of stopped mentioning corn for like the top 10.
Starting point is 01:03:45 Yeah. So they got to save number one. It has to, yeah, it has to be corn. I would agree with that. First corn, live as peaches on it on there. Okay, okay, okay, okay. Okay.
Starting point is 01:03:54 You guys ready? Good, good. Doodoo do. Oh, yeah. Yeah, course. Self-tight. Yeah, self-title. Of course, man.
Starting point is 01:04:02 Start everything. That's a great, dude, that's a dark, that's such a dark album. It is, man. Blind. Started everything, dude. Holy. Imagine it this record didn't exist. Where would music be?
Starting point is 01:04:15 It'd be totally different. So. Because that album broke all the rules. Yeah. It literally broke all the rules of like what music was at that time and what it could be. Oh my goodness, dude. We got to get Ross back in here, dude. Yeah, it's going to happen.
Starting point is 01:04:39 What a build. This drop is so. And then the guitar, second guitar. Yeah, exactly. You know what? We should do like a music video like this for it's like, it's like kind of like low VHS style. Like BHA style. Dude, I will literally get a VHS camera
Starting point is 01:04:59 That's what we're doing now Okay, we're doing it My favorite band, dude Dude They're just It's undeniable Yeah That's fucking sick, dude
Starting point is 01:05:14 I mean that riff, yeah Legendary Shout to corn Still the goats Yeah, I mean, goats A new metal for sure My goodness, dude I wonder what people think
Starting point is 01:05:25 Out there watching this episode You know what There's a lot of like bad lists that people put together. I pretty much agree with like I had no qualms with that list at all. Like I might have rearranged a couple of them, but I'm not mad at any of these albums being on here. I don't, yeah. And you're always biased to because you have like your own favorite bands. Like obviously my favorite band's Cornel, you know, we should be corn, alive as PG, Farley.
Starting point is 01:05:49 This all the court albums. Top five. Yeah. You fucks. I agree. But like, dude, this top 10 is good. It's a good top 10. Even the top three, to be honest.
Starting point is 01:05:57 Even the top three. It's like you get everything that. Bam. Lincoln Park, Corrence is moving down. That's great. Can't argue with that, man. And bam, yeah, okay, four.
Starting point is 01:06:05 That slip knot, yeah. And Deftoe. So the top five has the top five new metal bands. I mean, it's like, good job, Lodwire. It's a good, uh. They nailed that. Um,
Starting point is 01:06:16 they didn't try to go like the, uh, you know, underground route and add, like, albums that weren't really like, that shit piss me on. People would try to like, I'm trying to make it look cool. They give like the hipster opinion. They didn't try to,
Starting point is 01:06:27 to do that with this, which I'm glad. Put on what the fuck is sick. Put on the albums that people actually liked. What is the sickers, dude? Not the weird of scare ones that no one's heard of. Well, we covered a lot of ground. We covered literally the whole. The whole new metal spectrum.
Starting point is 01:06:43 So for the new metal fans, this one, this episode's for you guys. All right. Well, that was fun. I mean, yeah. Well, yeah, everyone, thank you for listening and watching. Hopefully you enjoyed this new metal rundown. Sorry. Um, next week is us.
Starting point is 01:07:01 And then after that, we will have a Carcoza and, uh, Tori's back and we'll have, it'll be pretty much, I think next week will be our last, uh, trifecta for a long time. For a while, yeah. Because, uh, you see our, our calendar invites. It's stacked. It's getting pretty stacky. So get ready to, to have some bands back in here. I'm excited. Pretty stoked.
