Geoff Schwartz Is Smarter Than You - Chiefs Stunned In Seattle + Quenton Nelson Trade Reaction
Episode Date: October 28, 2026Welcome to The Schwartz Football Show as Geoff and Mitch Schwartz react to all the fallout from Week 7 in the NFL! First, the guys dissect the Kansas City Chiefs' brutal 20–3 road loss to the Seattl...e Seahawks, detailing the offensive line struggles, wide receiver limitations, and Josh Simmons landing on injured reserve. Next, they break down the blockbuster trade sending Indianapolis Colts All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson to Seattle and debate which players could be moved next ahead of the trade deadline. Then, Geoff and Mitch examine whether Brian Flores' defense can keep carrying the undefeated 6–0 Minnesota Vikings despite bottom-tier offensive efficiency. Finally, they give their pulse on Dan Orlovsky's viral percentage math confusion, Pat McAfee’s latest internet dustup, and whether the Chicago Bears should pull the trigger on a Maxx Crosby trade.

It is Tuesday, October 27th.
I'm Jeff Schwartz.
That is Mitch Schwartz.
This is a Schwartz football show.
We're here talking more national football league.
I'm sure, Mitch, people cannot wait to hear us talk about the Kansas City Chiefs,
who took a big loss this week.
I guess it was Sunday night to the Seahawks.
A big NFL trade just happened.
We'll talk about that.
We'll talk about the undefeated Vikings.
Is it real?
Is it not?
AFC North and some other things happening in the sports world, buddy.
How you doing?
I'm doing good.
Yeah, that was quite a weapon that Seattle put on Kansas City.
we'll get to that.
But there's another good week of football.
And there's a Dallas primetime game that I didn't really watch.
So get on me.
I fell asleep early from that one,
especially when it seemed very clear that Philly was not going to be.
Do you think Philly worst record in the NFL is a good wager?
It does feel like they're not going to win much of anything.
Like how many wins do you think they get the rest of the year?
They have two wins.
You need to end up with under four and a half?
It's what Philly against Miami is basically what you're betting on?
Yeah.
Or Tennessee.
Yeah, I just feel like the defense can be good enough against like a Washington or someone else that they sneak out of win.
I mean, I still don't necessarily buy the Giants.
But no, I'm not.
What are the odds on Philly Worst record?
Philly worst record right now.
Fewest wins is 17 to 1.
The Dolphins are the favorite, then Tennessee, then Chargers, and a big jump, Cardinals, Command, Eagles.
I mean, 17 to 1 is not terrible.
That's a Kevin Malone.
Yeah.
If it's 100 to 1, you bet on it no matter what.
Eagles under five and a half wins minus 104.
That's the five and a half wins.
I don't think we're getting more than five wins with what happened last.
We saw last night.
But nonetheless, we're here to talk about the Eagles.
We're here to talk about a big NFL trade.
Quinn Nelson, the stalwart left guard for the Indianapolis Colts, multiple time,
all pro, pro bowl, all those things.
Still playing a very high level.
traded today to the Seattle Seahawks for a 27 third, a 28th.
He will be a free agent next season.
This feels like two things, really three things, right?
The Colts are starting to clear house, which we're going to see the next couple of weeks
with some of the other players as well.
It's Seattle showing up a position in need, and then Quinn Nelson sort of just maybe ring chasing
a little bit, right?
Trying to find a ring before he heads into free agency.
Mitch, what do you make of this trade?
It feels like a pretty big deal for Seattle.
It does.
I guess which dumb ass said.
Seahawks wouldn't trade for him last week because they have great Zabel left guard.
This guy.
Yeah, I guess Zabel's going to right guard.
People are saying center.
I thought Sundell is actually decent.
It's not like Bradford's that great at right guard.
It's probably good to have options for Seattle.
Yeah, I mean, the trade is great.
We talked about Quentin Nelson being an elite offensive guard and also what he does to
solidify a unit.
I would love to see training camp practices with him.
against Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy.
I'm not going to get to see that unless they sign them to an extension.
But that is a great trade for Seattle, man.
Especially with Cross going down, the left tackle,
it might be out for a little bit of time.
Again, Quentin is one of the few guys that truly does make everyone in the entire unit
around him better can elevate the play of a tackle next to him,
his awareness, his ability to help out,
kind of stick arms up and block two or three guys at once.
I love the trade for Seattle.
And also just mentality-wise, what he brings to the,
table, like quite literally perfect for Seattle for what they want for what Mike McDonald's all
about. And as we saw Sunday night, what that, what that defense is all about.
I think, too, with the run game struggling in Seattle for the most part, this just gives them
another offense alignment to try to open up holes for running backs that are not elite guys,
right? Like, you're able to get a run game going that should alleviate some of the pressure
from Darnel or just throw the ball to whoever is over Legerious need. That also is a good offense
of weapon for, but they don't play the Chiefs every single week.
But this just allows, you would imagine,
maybe one or two or three more runs that are successful,
Mitch, and that takes some pressure off the offense a little bit
when they work back some of the running back.
So, you know, it's a great trade for Seattle.
I love the aggressiveness, man.
Like, I think you should go for it.
There's this window.
And, you know, like, when you think about the NFL.
Okay, a third round pick when you're a top team is in the 80s or 90s.
Oh, it's a great, correct.
We're not talking about a very high probability of even a quality start.
So I think that trade value-wise is great.
Also might allow, you know, some of these teams that are in like the Shanahan-McFay tree,
we associate with all the outside zone, kind of been migrating a little bit more towards
power schemes, gap schemes over the years.
I mean, McVeigh obviously kind of went to 100% duo route.
But Shanahan's mixed in a lot more, you know, kind of power plays where your guard's pulling.
Quinn's probably the best in the NFL at that.
So you are also adding some scheme versatility there as well where you're able to get him on
move, get him out in space,
can pull for, you know, tosses and sweeps as well.
So I think you can do some fun stuff with him.
And, yeah, it just, it helps to solidify that offensive line.
And if you're of the mind that it was more a personnel issue, not a scheme issue,
you get him back, you get Charbonnet back, eventually the first round pick is going to
come back.
And now you've got all three of those guys in the mix.
And all of a sudden, you could turn into, you know, a top 12, top 10 running offense
pretty quickly.
You trade for Seattle.
Do you expect DeForest Buckner and Josh Downs to be traded?
Because I think that has to be expected now.
Yeah, I would imagine those two are gone.
Who, the bigger questions, who do you keep?
I mean, I would just kind of, I would trade Jonathan Taylor.
I hear everybody.
I know I saw a couple of chiefs fans were floating the Bernard Raymond idea for maybe the chiefs,
but no.
I just, okay, we could do the chiefs thing now.
But I just like you there's the fan base things you could just trade and sign anyone who's
ever a free agent or ever available.
But why do they sign the third veteran wide receiver?
I'm like, do you know they wanted to go there?
Did they have the money to do this?
Like you can't just trade for anyone you want, Mitch.
Like I wish they could.
I wish they could trade for any good player the chiefs want would go to Kansas City.
But like you have a certain number of assets.
I'm not arguing for that.
I know.
But my point is like this is.
just a long-going thing.
Don't take it out on me.
People, I see Chiefs people like tweeting me like, well, just, they could have just
done these eight things this all season.
Well, yeah, no shit.
I guess they could have.
They absolutely could have done it.
But, like, that's not how way the team is built.
You can't build a team doing everything you want to do.
You can't build a team addressing every little need in every single draft.
You're never going to be a champion that way, right?
You have to draft.
Now, there are times you have to draft specifically for need.
I understand that.
Typically, it's at the top of the draft, right?
When you draft for need.
So yeah, I mean, I guess Raymond, I guess if he fits a long-term option or left tackle,
but I guess the question is like, the Josh Chimis thing, he's not injured reserve now.
I appreciate the chiefs running Rick Burkholder out there.
I know not a lot of people do that.
I know Rick likes to talk to, so that works both ways.
But it works a two-way street there.
Rick lives for that.
I know he does.
I know.
Hi, Rick, we love you.
But like, the Eagles ran out of Nick Siriani.
You talk about the blood clots.
Like, can you send out someone else?
I would take him big dom, anyone else.
So he said, injured reserve, the back didn't get any better.
It was a calf injury than a back injury, whatever.
I guess starting with this.
Do you expect Josh Schumann's back at all this year?
I really don't.
No.
Why would we expect that?
There's been nothing about this situation that tells us that Josh is either going to be healthy
or is going to be on the field for the chiefs.
Yeah, Rick's statement, I will say, Rick is very good at what he does.
There were obviously some truths in that.
It's not like he's going to come out an outright lie,
but that's not the complete story.
I talked about it smelling fishy.
Just in terms of the timeline of Andy Reid tells you who's going to practice
on Wednesday before practice.
He did not mention Josh Simmons as someone who is not going to practice.
He had mentioned on Monday that Josh was going to continue the ramp up period
and, you know, not sure about the game, which means he wasn't going to play, but, you know,
going to keep ramping up and we'll see where it goes.
Then doesn't get mentioned as not going to practice.
And then doesn't practice.
And then they say, oh, well, actually, that was planned for him not to practice.
Then it becomes no practice because of backslash personal.
And the next day he gets put on IR.
And then Rick goes out and gives that speech.
And then Sunday morning, we come to find out that he talked back to the head coach and the
quarterback told him to leave a meeting.
So, yeah, there's obviously a lot more going.
on behind the scenes. So it's not just the injury. And I do think in terms of kind of parsing through
some of that stuff, like, I don't know. It's hard to know what's real. It's hard to know what's not.
Like I don't deny any of the things Rick said. Those are probably all medically correct. He's not
going to go out there and lie about that. But that doesn't mean that that's the full story.
That doesn't mean it's a nice, clean, tidy picture that can get wrapped up with a two or three
minute prepared speech. So yeah, I'm going to, I'm going to say my guess is we never see him.
in Kansas City ever again.
I just don't see, I don't know.
It just feels like the kind of thing
that doesn't feel like he can be relied on
and he is too important of a player
or too important a position
to have that big of a question mark
basically at all times.
Okay, so that leads to the point about trading
for the Colts left tackle.
Like out of all things the chiefs need, right?
Like, and they, to allocate assets to,
if more comes back soon,
which I think he'll be back this week
because of concussion, like, is that worth spending the assets and cap space for,
for, to have him in there?
Like, you just give, you're giving up on Simmons if you, if you trade for him, right?
I don't think it's a one-year rental, right?
So, like, I...
No, I think that is the main purpose of trading for a guy like that is we are trying to
solidify the position long term.
This is not just a rest of the season thing.
That, to me, that would be the biggest reason, again, for trading for a guy like
Raymond is we've been struggling to find a long-term answer.
We thought we got it with Josh last year.
We're going to trade for a guy who might not be elite of the position,
but is obviously very good at it.
Good enough. Yeah.
And so, you know, cap space-wise, I don't exactly know what the contract looks like.
I mean, he's making 25 a year, so he's paid towards the top of the market.
But we all know, you know, the way cap and contracts work and stuff when you're trading
for a guy who's already signed an extension, you're getting the lower version of the cap numbers.
So even if it's just for a two-to-three-year thing, and then you figure out if he's on the
team long term. But if we can just say, like, the Chiefs will have the eighth best
left tackle in the NFL for the next three years. That's worth it. Correct. Right. That's
worth it. It's not, again, if Quentin Nelson, I know, you know, he's going to be a free agent,
but if he's only going for a third and a fifth the following year, then Raymond's not going
for a ton either. So the idea of solidifying that position I like, is it the thing they need the
most right now? Not necessarily. But that is a position you should be able to just kind of start
playing. You know, it's not that hard to learn the difference between one team calls a boss
and one team calls it force and one team calls a zap. Like, you can figure that out pretty quickly.
So the Chiefs next year have a first, a second, a third, two thirds, a fourth, two fifth,
and two sixth that appears right now. They might get more comp picks depending. Are they comp eligible?
I don't think they are. I don't think anyone left then that would be, uh, because they trade,
oh, Watson might be, right, Jaylon Watson might be comp eligible because they trade McDuffies.
I don't know. They're not going to get comp for that.
All right, let's talk about the Chiefs game.
So Chiefs loses Seattle 20 to 3.
Not good, obviously.
Seattle played lights out.
They played great.
Yeah, probably should be like 28 to 3, right?
Like, it wasn't very close.
23 is a little misleading there.
JSM was great.
They ran the ball better than they had maybe most of the year.
They targeted, you know, Logerius Sneed all game.
Like, that was a good game plan from Seattle.
And the Chiefs had enough.
Not all game because they got benched and then played a second half.
Okay.
Fair enough.
half of a game.
And all the Chiefs warts showed in one game, right?
The lack of wide receiver speed and separation,
you know,
the tackle injuries,
which are true,
right?
I think Andy Reid sometimes,
and you know this better than I do,
I think,
like there are games.
I feel like he goes into it thinking like,
we're kind of fucked and this is a fucked game plan.
That's what I felt like sometimes.
Maybe you can probably wrong there.
And then defensively,
the lack of pass rush has been there for years
and showed up a,
again, even though George had like six pressures again somehow.
I don't know.
That's an insane stat.
Sure, whatever.
I may watch different games.
I do think some of the Chris Jones criticism is a little overblown, by the way.
He's not catching Sam Darnold.
Like, he's 35.
He's not catching, like, I don't know.
It's not going to do that.
But Chris Jones, this is what he does.
He shows up in the playoffs, big games every now and then is what it is.
You know, Delane got beat, whatever.
He's a rookie got beat by JSA and some good throws, Mitch.
But all the warts showed all at once.
Which one do you want to talk about first?
I think in terms of the game plan,
I do not think it was like an Andy Reid
isn't sticking to the identity, all this stuff.
The shotgun stat is getting thrown off
because they went pistol.
And they did that formation where Pats and Pistol,
which means, you know,
South Walker is directly behind him
with the two tight ends next thing.
The two tight ends, yeah.
That is a run formation.
I don't know what the impetus was
for going for that heavily this week.
I hate, I kind of like, hate those.
That's a Mike McDonald bullshit formation.
Can we not?
Can we not?
Mike McDaniel?
Yes.
Sorry.
I think they might have pulled that from like the Niners game though.
Either way, I didn't, I don't love that formation, but that that formation by itself is
skewing the data on the shotgun and under center splits.
So I think that conversation is a little overblown.
I went back and looked.
The chiefs, in terms of true shotguns that weren't their downs, had three snaps of it in
the first quarter and like all I think were successful plays.
They had a couple snaps of it in the.
second quarter that weren't two-minute drives or third down. So the stats aren't that crazy
on the under-center stuff. I thought the biggest split in terms of like the game plan was
coming out of the second half. Now you get the ball with eight minutes because Seattle went on a long
drive. The first play was shotgun outside zone RPO, which I hate that run, but the pass was
available. He threw it, where he got seven yards. Next play was a quick wide receiver screen to
Travis, who's split out, you know, get the first down.
So to me, that was like, what we did in the first half didn't work.
We're trying something different.
We're going to shotgun RPO.
We're going to quick passes on the perimeter.
We're going to get the ball in the hands of our guys.
To me, that was the split.
But like, nothing worked in the first half.
It wasn't good football.
What do you want them to do?
Keep bashing his head in.
All the Seattle guys said, we're going to let Kenneth Walker run on us.
Now, to me, the flip side of that is why isn't the play action?
Why isn't the past game working?
To your point, the receiver group is just not good enough.
Pat, for whatever reason, got sped up and started pressing a lot earlier than he should have.
It wasn't like he was under a ton of pressure.
I also think, you know, kind of just running down the gammon of things.
Like looking at the offense line, yes, the chiefs are down two offensive tackles.
That was not a game that felt to me like we have two backups playing offensive tackle.
Like we see what true backup level offensive tackle play looks like.
Khalil Benson, some of the, you know, we talked about the pressure stuff the first week,
but like he's still getting hit in a little bit, but he's a starting.
caliber offensive tackle at this point, I think we can say.
Josh Azudu, the right tackle, again, just watching the game, you wouldn't say like that
guy sucks, he's an obvious backup.
Like, he looked apart for the most part.
He had one mental error.
It happens in Seattle when the quarterback's going up to the line of scrimmage and pointing
to a guy to your side and then you think the slides that way.
Like, okay, it happens.
That was one time.
So, yeah, it wasn't the typical like chiefs or down too off of the tackles.
It was just we can't get anything going on the ground because Seattle beat the crap out of us.
Nick Iman Worry somehow can play cover corner as well as he can play edge defender on the line of scrimmage.
I've said this.
I just said this on the Chief's pod I do,
but he legitimately might be the most versatile defender in NFL history
when you look at all the things he can do and the quality that he can do it at.
Because the stat was no base defense from Seattle all too high against the Chiefs
and still defending the run that successfully.
Well, the structure of the defense was old school three, four odd spacing, where you have head up on the nose, two head up guys are kind of four eyes on the tackles.
You've got a defensive end, a DeMarcus Lawrence or a Yuchina Nuwosu as a stand-up guy, thinking like von Miller.
And then the other stand-up guy is Nick Mn-Wory.
And then you've got two interior alignment.
So by definition, that is a sub-defense.
It's not a base defense, but you've got a six-two, two-140 pounder on the line of scrimmage who can play edge defender.
At a high level.
We've seen him rush against Joe Alt.
We've seen him actually rush the passer against offensive tackles and be successful.
This was the thing with Derwin James.
Derwin had incredible blitz numbers,
but it was all him getting matched up on running back.
So, like, he was a matchup nightmare,
but he wasn't rushing against offensive tackles.
Obviously, Emin Worry can play offball linebacker and box safety.
He can play in the slot.
And we saw the clip of him covering Xavier Worthy.
He can also play corner as needed.
Probably can't match up against his teammate,
Jackson Smith and Digbo or like a Jamar Chase, but can probably play corner at a halfway decent clip.
That profile is unprecedented in NFL history to play all three levels and have at least above average play at every single spot, if not elite play in some regard.
So he is a freak.
They lined up and they played too high and they just said, we're going to beat you into not being able to run Kenneth Walker.
And the answer has to be play action and it has to be the past game.
And that wasn't available for Kansas City because of a few different issues.
Again, guys not coming open, quarterback missing a couple throws, a couple pressures.
So, yeah, it was a bad performance.
I could keep going.
But it was a bad performance.
And then pass rush-wise, that just sucked.
Like, I don't get the pressure numbers.
That wasn't the game I watched.
Darnel was relatively unaffected.
And part of the thing, too, was people were saying, well, Darnold had like the quickest time to throw.
and it was 2.4 seconds and all this stuff.
Watching the game,
that was not a game
that felt like Darno was trying to get rid of the ball quickly
or the ball was coming out super fast.
That was just guys were getting open
and we were throwing within the rhythm of the offense.
And then the times he scrambled or held onto the ball,
he did scramble.
So that doesn't go to time to throw
because he doesn't have the one or two plays
where he's trying to find guys open
and throwing it and now it's,
you know, you got a six second throw
that all of a sudden turns a 2.4 into a 2.7
and it looks average.
just those long third downs, he scrambled, he ran for it.
So it wasn't like Mahomes, the first game of the year against Denver,
was getting the ball out incredibly fast.
And you could tell the goal was to get it out fast.
This was just Donald throwing within the rhythm of the offense.
So it wasn't that he was getting rid of it so quick that the chiefs couldn't get home.
It was a lack of chief pass rush and guys open and the ball coming out in the proper rhythm
of, you know, an under center play action, West Coast offense.
Yeah, and they did a good job in the first half of just fine.
JSN in different positions to getting them open.
That was a really good game plan by Seattle.
The third down defense by the Chiefs was atrocious.
I think Seattle converted like seven third and seven pluses.
And that goes into everything we said about the defense.
So to me, Mitch, the biggest need is wide receiver.
And I don't know who it is.
It's got to be someone.
Look, if the Chiefs are healthy, okay,
and Rice is one and Thorne's your deep threat and Worth is your three and Travis is your four,
It's not a bad group.
It's not the best.
It's not bad, though, right?
But guys got hurt.
That's what happens in the NFL.
Not a lot of depth there.
You got to make it.
You got to make an answer.
So part of that problem is that Rice came into the season with an injury.
Correct.
Rehabing his knee in jail and then looked like he had a piano on his back in training camp clips.
Obviously, they had a plan for him, you know, talking about Rick earlier.
Like, Rick wouldn't force Rishi to practice or tell him to practice if they didn't think that
practicing was the right thing for him in training camp.
So despite the fact that there were some bad clips and he didn't look right,
like the plan was, whatever the injury was,
it wasn't going to make it worse.
He was going to get better.
And that's what he did.
Before the hamstring, he looked pretty good.
Relying on Xavier Worthy to be healthy, not the best case.
So you do have two of those three receivers that you can't necessarily rely on for health-related reasons.
So it is where the backups are going to be more important.
But you do have a Jalen Royos in the second year that you expect a little bit from.
Obviously, Cyrus Allen, the camp hype was there.
whatever reason they don't feel like they can play them that much.
So far, to me, Garrett Wilson is the most obvious.
I don't know if obvious is the right word, but you don't like that one?
I love it.
Okay.
I was going to say, that would, much like we talked about left tackle,
getting a receiver that's young and that can be there for a few years,
like that is the downside to bring in juju back, bring him a Cole back,
bringing Watson back now, bring in Tyreek back potentially.
Like, we, the, the, the, the chiefs need guys who are young-ish that can grow with Mahomes and they can be there long term.
Rishu is supposed to be that guy, never going to be a true number one receiver.
He is more of the zone beater, you know, short intermediate.
But it would be great to have, you know, if you don't consider Garrett Wilson number one,
and number one and a half, you know, whatever, like having that guy long term, it's been sorely missed since Tyreeks left.
Chiefs have obviously had a ton of success since that, but still, like, you need guys who can,
change the math on defense.
And you got the perfect view of that and what a guy like Jackson Smith and
Jigwood can do.
Yeah, he was really good.
Last thing on the Chiefs, I think, for now, Mitch.
So Cyrus Allen, very clearly Mahomes trust him because Mahomes
he doesn't swim the ball all the time, right?
Why can't he play more?
I was arguing with someone about this, like, I said basically like,
make the offense easier for him.
I don't know what that answer looks like, Mitch.
But like that's where I think if you have an actual gripe with the coaching staff, it's like, why is it so hard for rookies to play in this offense as a wide receiver?
Like, figure it out.
I agree.
I don't understand it.
It's not like college offenses.
I mean, are that simple?
Like there was a thing with the Tennessee receivers that they run that super weird offense with stack formations outside the numbers by the sidelines.
Like, for the most part, college offenses, even if they're spread off.
offenses, like, I guess unless you're in like a leech style where there's only five route concepts,
you should understand formations, you should know how to get lined up.
Like, yes, the chiefs have a volume of plays, but like it's all designed to make sense.
And for you to know, you know, every single personnel group has its own name.
And so every guy knows if you're X, Z, if you're, you know, whatever.
I don't know.
It is legitimate criticism for whatever reason, the Kansas defense.
And even when, like, veterans come, they don't just like, like DeAndre Hopkins,
it does not a seamless picking up of the offense and just like fitting right in.
And that is in part, I think, why they have to bring guys in so often because Juju knows the offense and McCle knows the offense.
But that is, I think, a real criticism.
I don't understand why it's so difficult for guys to pick up.
I mean, you see rookies have success all across the league.
Yes.
I can't imagine that the offense is that much more difficult to pick up than anyone else.
So I don't get it because coming out of training camp too, like Cyrus,
looked good, got hurt on the special teams play,
the Chiefs fans melted down over,
came back, played actual preseason games,
caught the ball, looked really good.
There weren't reports of like,
well, he's flashing, but he's lagging behind mentally,
or he can't get lined up.
Like, those are the things you tend to see in train camp,
if that's happening.
Didn't see that.
I know people had a couple clips of Pat having to tell Cyrus
what the play was or where to line up.
But, yeah, figure it out.
Like, he's an asset when he's on the field
at the receiver position, you don't have a ton of those right now.
Find a way to get them on the field and make them comfortable.
And I mean, a little bit of the onus is on the player too,
but this is a historical thing with Andy Reid,
that even the best rookie receiving seasons are all in the second half of the season
because for whatever reason, just seems like it's hard to pick up,
and I just don't get that.
And the thing, too, about the offense,
I know they've probably shorn down the play calls, you know, over the years,
but it's an offense that tells you what you're doing.
Like, they just, it's why it's worth it.
It's lengthy because they tell X, this, Z, this, what,
they don't know why, yeah, Y this.
Like, F, this.
Like, his name is Travis Kelsey.
That's, yeah, no, I know that they.
I know what you mean.
The F, because the F is not a fullback.
It's like a third wide receiver.
It's like you're very confusing sometimes.
But maybe that's why.
Maybe he's the F and he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing it
because F could be fullback too,
which they don't even have.
The F thing always, I never figured.
it out. Did you listen to play calls like that?
Yeah, it's just, it's the third guy.
But we used to have a fullback.
That was also Sherman. He was also F.
They were both. Yeah, but if it's 11 personnel, you're the third receiver.
That's what I'm saying. Like, you know if you are the F in the offense.
Like the, I'm not going to say all the names, but like, it's not just like, hey, 11 personnel run any three receivers in and then you guys figure out what slots to go.
Like every version of 11 personnel has a name for it.
And then if you want guys with even within that, if you have a version of like, let's say they're colors if it's orange.
If orange is, you know, Cyrus is the F on that one, you can have like orange flip.
And now he and, you know, Rishi flip.
Like so you have, it's very specific which spots guys are in.
And yes, to your point, plays are called, you know, gun, tray right, Y counter motion, two jet, Yankee, X shallow cross.
Like X runs the shallow cross
And the rest of the team runs the Yankee
Like it's pretty obvious
Why the Lions score on mesh
With an offensive tackle
And the chiefs ran mesh like twice
And got zero yards
And Pack got strip stacked
Why could the Chiefs have
Success on Mesh?
It's the Packers defense, I get it
For those who missed it, Panas stool lined up
at jumbo tied end,
you whatever you want to call it
And it literally ran
What?
F
F.
F. He said F
F.
He probably was F.
And he said F.
He ran like part of them.
He ran one of the crossers in mesh and sat in his own like he's supposed to.
James and Williams ran the other guy.
Oregon education.
Just brilliant minds at Oregon.
I was like, I couldn't believe it worked.
The Packers actually guarded him with defenders.
And James Williams was wide open.
And your chiefs run mesh and Holmes gets a trip sack from behind.
That's a pretty vicious hit.
That's why Penae's an all pro.
Lane Johnson can never do that.
Lane could never do that.
All right, Mitch.
We have one undefeated team left.
in the national football leagues, the Minnesota Vikings.
They're 6-0.
They won this past week.
The margin for their victory, I should say, 16-10, 23-13, 15-10, 23-16, 9-3, and then a big
week-one win, 39-22.
If you recall that game, I think it was like 22-21, and they got a bunch of late scores
on Packers' turnovers.
Their offense, 29th EPA per play, 30-and-success rate.
I could bore you with other numbers, but they're all between 24 and 30.
how long can this go, Mitch?
How long can they continue to win in this way?
I don't know.
It's also weird because the NFC North is pretty good.
So it's not like they're necessarily going against all the weakest teams
and they have shown some proof of concept.
Obviously, Flores is in the revolutionary world of defensive game plans.
This whole like eight-up thing is not a new concept.
Like, you know, I went against that 15 years.
go. You know, Mike Zimmer was doing versions of that from now double A gap, but it's double A and we're trying to figure out which, you know, edge guy could be coming. Like the eight up thing is new. What's new is the fact that like, I mean, I'm not a coverage guy. So someone's probably going to tell me I'm wrong. But to me what's new is the fact that pretty much any of the guys can blitz or drop into coverage. Like old school eight up, you know, kind of double A gap blitzes. You kind of had an idea. These are the four guys that are true blitzers. These are the four guys that are rushing. Maybe a defensive end drops. But like,
if there's a three-wide receiver side
and there's one slot over there
and one corner and there's no one back there,
the blitz has probably come from the other side.
But now it could come from the free receiver side
and a bunch of guys could pop out and start covering.
And so it's the,
we're not afraid to like maybe have a play
get thrown against us.
We're just going to be so unpredictable
and we're going to come from where historically,
so from the offense line perspective,
we look at blitz threats as
here's the guy on the line of scrimmage
or near the line of scrimmage, who's like a defensive back or a slot or linebacker,
and he's covered behind him.
He's capped.
He's got a safety over top, which means he can blitz because the safety's going to come down
and guard the slot receiver.
Now it feels like that doesn't matter.
The idea of a guy being capped or having protection behind him, it feels like that doesn't
matter.
So that's where the math has changed on.
Who do we block?
How do we get this covered?
And you're also, because the offensive line is going to account for the four true
rushers plus one other person,
When you have seven or eight on the line of scrimmage,
you're able to break protection rules
because you're putting multiple guys on a running back,
and you're also having it where the back has to step up,
and you're having these defenders come into line scrimmage.
It looks like all eight guys can blitz.
Then they're going to pop based on who's blocking them.
So, yeah, the defense is going to continue to do what they're doing.
Seems like Flores has, you know, 85% blitz rates, nuts.
But he's got his finger on what's working defensively.
Can the offense keep doing?
what they're doing, is there a trade?
Is there a quarterback? I know I've heard some
Kirk Cousins return chatter.
I don't know.
It feels like a couple years ago when we didn't necessarily believe them,
when Darnel was doing this thing. But
we have these teams every year
that it feels like are 14 and
two or the analytics don't agree
that it's a X win
team and then they get smoked
early in the playoffs. You're like, see, the analytics
were right about them. DV.O.A. said they
really should be 10 and 7.
It feels like they're that team.
Oh, I can't wait to bet against them in the playoffs if they get that far.
Two things here.
I think Brian Flores also does some of the exotic pressures on first or second down, which is a little bit different.
Most people wait the third down to do them, and he does them, I think, all game, which is why.
The blitz style, I told you before, I hate the blitz percentages.
It's, we got to, it's not 95%.
Just whatever.
I'm not going to get gripped about that.
But Mitch, you said, why is Kevin O'Connell?
a quarterback whisperer if he can't get some of these quarterbacks to play well.
Kyler Murray, not quarterback whispering.
And then JJ McCarthy goes to the Giants.
It looks like he's good again.
Is this like a stain on Kevin O'Connell as a quarterback whisperer the way Murray's playing?
And if J.J. McCarthy can use to play well?
No.
Not after one week.
I mean, remember when Josh Jobs showed up and he looked like as good as J.J. McCarthy did for a week or two?
I'm not going to buy the J.J. McCarthy thing.
A change of scenery, maybe it might have been the biggest factor,
but they were trying to coach some legitimate issues out of him
in terms of mechanics and the way you threw the ball.
And the Vikings fans know, like, the leg kick was an indicator of, I guess,
inefficient mechanics.
So, like, there was a lot going on to try to fix stuff.
We've also heard the rumblings of them not being happy with some of the immaturity.
It could be a situation like Baker Mayfield that, like,
he had to move on.
he kind of had to be humbled a little bit,
but I'm not taking anything from a J.G. McCarthy start after one start
or one and a half good games of football.
Two games ago when he did come in,
if we remember he threw an interception on his first play,
then he went like 11 for 20 for 400 yards in the fourth quarter.
So, no, I don't think this is a stand on Kevin O'Connell,
but it does, again, it kind of reinforce my point that, like,
what is the resume other than Darnold's Good Year
and the fact that like Josh Jobs had a good couple games with them.
Like it's not like a Shanahan who I still remember that chart,
like top 20 quarterbacks in EPA.
It was like Jimmy Garoppolo, Nick Mullins, and CJ Bethard.
And like those were three of the best quarterbacks in the NFL over a whatever year period.
Like it's not the same to me.
So yeah, offensively, I don't know what the answer is.
I don't know if it's a trade.
You can definitely see, I mean, Justin Jefferson handled last.
last year, awesome, but it looks like he's, you know, starting to get more frustrated,
which you should.
So how that's going to play out, I don't know.
But to your point, it's not a team I trust in any regard at this point.
So we'll just have to see how, you know, next few games kind of play out.
The Cleveland Browns are five and two.
The Steelers are five and two.
The Giants are four and two.
The Vikings are six and oh.
Are those teams at all any,
playoff threat in your mind, or they just sort of, so far it's schedule oriented and no one
sort of figured out how to get them in the Browns. I can't explain the Browns. I mean, I just,
they've won by three, three, three, three and three in their last, excuse me, they've won, sorry,
by four, three, three, three and three. Yeah, that's not a, when you're looking at, you know,
what that looks like, you get thrashed by the Jags, you beat the bucks,
when they're in their slide.
You beat the Panthers, beat the Steelers, lose to the Jets,
beat the Ravens without Lamar, beat the Titans.
You're not really looking at many standout victories.
I mean, the Panthers, but we know how kind of weird they are
and they didn't have a very good game.
So I would say that's more like kind of schedule and circumstance oriented.
Now, they are winning the games.
They are doing the right things at the end of games,
two-minute drives, those things.
But, yeah, that doesn't feel like, again,
a team that you're really going to trust or that you're going to pick against
any team that really is like a top 12 team.
Yeah, I would tend to agree with you there.
Any thoughts about any other games this weekend?
Niners obviously lose to.
The Falcons, it feels like not a big deal.
That felt like we kind of thought in the short week, you know,
was going to be a problem.
I still think we were pretty surprised by that.
Now, it did feel like maybe that was,
I don't know if an overreaction is the right term,
but like, how was San Fran so good for that long with all the
injuries. Like, it felt like eventually that was going to kind of have to, you know, come to
roost. And unfortunately, it did. But that was still surprising to see the Pittsburgh. I mean,
I'm just so uninspired by Pittsburgh, just having for a while, even with the Mike Tomlin,
you know, redemption tour on Sunday night football, which is kind of awesome to see him, like,
actually speak his mind. I mean, Indy, we talked about Quinn Nelson and it kind of feels like
fire sale time. I just, I just don't understand the Daniel Jones thing. Just going back,
it didn't make any sense at the time.
It still doesn't make a ton of sense.
Like, why would you do that?
Houston is probably the one we should talk about
because we felt like maybe they were kind of back on track.
They had the stretch of easy-ish games,
Giants being one of them,
and felt like, well, they could very easily be five and five,
six and four, I think potentially,
based on the stretch.
And I guess I just don't understand what's happened to Houston.
It doesn't feel like Willie Anderson and Daniel Hunter
are having the same impact they've had.
it doesn't seem like their cover corners
or doing what they've been doing
they just feel like a weirdly broken team
in a way that
we thought that they were fixed after the Jacksonville game
despite the fact that they gave a bunch of points to Jacksonville
but now that's been
I'd say the Houston game probably sticks out to me
in terms of they've just been the enigma team this year
that can't figure out and just maybe aren't very good
is Domingo Ryan's aren't any hots did you think
no I think that would be
I mean, I know it's his kind of side of the ball.
That's been letting things down.
But that feels rash to put him on a hot seat just because of one slow start.
I know they had a slow start last year.
They overcame that.
Then they played really well in the playoffs when they got there.
But no, I would say it's also we got to stop with the hot seat stuff after like a half season of bad football.
Like we don't fire coaches because of one bad half season of football.
Like he was talked about as one of the premier coaches in the NFL, done one of the best jobs since he's got there.
And then all of a sudden, like six bad games.
games and all of a sudden, like he's on a hot seat, to me, it doesn't work like that.
For the rest of the league, maybe it does work like that.
All right.
I was talking about this on our podcast on Bear Betts yesterday, Mitch.
I'll give you $100, $10, $50, whatever you want to put.
You don't need it from me.
But give me an AFC champion, an NFC champion and a Super Bowl champion right now.
I feel like this is a very tough discussion to have.
I mean, you have this discussion in college football too where I think like I bet on
Georgia, that's probably about it right now.
Can I sell you on the Bears in the NFC?
If they play a little better on defense, just like 15th best defense.
So we're going, we're going ifs in here?
We're not just if they can play better.
I mean, like to me the Bears, let's say they, let's look at your chiefs,
2019 Chiefs, your defense did not start great.
It finished about like 13th, I think, in DVOA, but the last half of season it was like
top 10.
Like, if the Bears can do that, I'm not saying they can.
Just hypothetically, Mitch.
Like, let's just say that injured guys come back.
They make a trade.
Like, they finish 13th in DVOA.
To me, the Bears would be my NFC pick.
Am I crazy for thinking that if their defense just plays a little bit better?
No.
I mean, you're, if they fix their weakness, like, no.
Their team, would you rather see them get DeForest Buckner
from maybe slightly less?
draft capital or Max Crosby for more
Josh Crosby?
Crosby.
What about you?
Crosby.
To me, he's been the obvious fit there for this entire
offseason, but it feels like even more so
now.
Yeah, Crosby would be awesome.
He plays every snap, like a tough
tough S.O.B. Like, he'd fit in great in Chicago.
I'm not saying Divorce Parker wouldn't, but like
that feels like a great fit for Chicago.
Yeah, I think Crosby would
that would be, you know, Super Bowl
favorites. To me right now, it's still San
Francisco. Are they ever going to be healthy? Are they going to have more than three receivers
at one time that we know the names of? I don't know. But they still just keep doing a good job
despite what happened this past week. Obviously, Bosa should be back in the near future.
Hopefully he stays healthy for their sake. But yeah, so for me, for the NFC, I still got to go to the
Niners, although Seattle's kind of starting to turn the corner, Donald's starting to get healthy,
maybe finding a bit of an identity
the Quinn Nelson trade.
I would put those two
at the cream of the crop right now.
So do you have you,
if you, Chicago right now
in a prediction market for Max Garcia's next team,
you bet a hundred bucks
like it's basically almost 19 to 1 right now.
It's not bad.
I might do that.
Like that's for like,
I'll take the hundred bucks if that hits.
If they're, to your point, like, the Raiders are close to doing the Mendoza, right?
Like, it feels like they're getting to that point.
I feel like they, he said Kirk's our starter, but I feel like they also made mention that, like,
Mendoza's going to play this year.
So they've lost four in a row.
They've not been fairly competitive, you know, they have covered against the Chiefs and Bills,
but those are late covers.
The Rams beat the shadow of the other day.
So are the Patriots.
If they don't win in New York this week because the Jets, that's probably it,
even though the schedule is Seahawks, Niners.
Broncos like it's tough for Mendoza come in.
But I mean, you're looking at the deadline is, what, the 10th, I think.
And you lose the Jets and Niners.
You're looking at three and six.
What do you need for Crosby?
A first round pick?
Well, obviously two ones in the offseason and then a rescinding of the trade.
So it feels like a one and a three at this point.
The Bears won't be like in the late 20s, right?
It's like the Bears, I think would absolutely do that.
You'd think so.
Guess which team has given up the most points in the AFC this year?
Buffalo Bills?
Las Vegas Raiders.
So it's not like, you know, Crosby's there and they, you know,
defenses rehauled and we're going to keep them on stuff.
It's not like it's been that successful.
This isn't a per game thing.
I just went to total points.
But they have given up 197 points.
The Cardinals have given up 208.
That is the next, the only team that's above them.
So just in terms of total points given up, Raiders have the second most in the NFL.
So can you move on from Crosby?
You can get some draft capital.
Are you moving up from Cousins potentially?
It does feel like there's a bit of a reckoning coming.
It just, this is kind of my Miles Garrett thing too.
Like it's fun to see the best players on better teams and have opportunities to like play impactful games.
So I would love to see Crosby on Chicago just for the sake of him being on a great team,
him being in the playoffs, getting to taste, you know, that postseason, maybe having some
success.
So, yeah.
So in terms of the AFC teams, what are you looking at or who are you looking at?
Well, I mean, look, so the bills, I just, sure, I guess, I mean, I, I, I, I would
do it, I wrote again to just picking Buffalo every time and not them not doing it.
I mean, the Bengals feel lively to me, Mitch, as a team.
We talked about Joe Burrell before in the post.
season. But I mean, those, I think we can't overreact to Kansas City, man. Like,
just the, oh, I don't think anyone's doing that. But, I mean, those feel like the three ones.
Baltimore, Mitch, this Lamar thing, man, I know he's hurt. I get it. All right. I'm not thinking,
I've been hurt before. I don't want people challenging whether I'm hurt or not.
You got hurt a lot. I did get her a lot.
But area of expertise for you. It does, it does feel like these links.
linger a lot for Lamar.
And probably him and Harbaugh had kind of a fallout a little bit, some of the
reason why.
I just look around the NFL.
How many quarterbacks are staying on a month with a high ankle sprain?
Like, I don't know.
I just, so how do you trust Baltimore?
I mean, that's my long way to say, like, is he back this week?
Playing Buffalo this week.
He hasn't even had his yearly immune system.
Oh, his flu.
Malfunction or two.
His yearly flu?
Yeah, so he's going to come back and then mid-November just like, boom, flu season, baby.
Lamar's going to be out for a week or two.
Also, real quick,
why do these national reporters love writing Snoop Huntley?
I feel like they're just like going nuts
for another week of Snoop Huntley.
Well, he was good like one game four years ago.
He's like,
Snoopi Plumptly is a good,
this is a good reminder, by the way,
about the backup quarterback situations around the NFL.
Like week one, the first game they play,
really when they enter a lot of times
in the middle of a game, they're okay.
and maybe the next week they look good.
And they mostly just think after that.
Like, we keep doing this thing where it's like good backup.
I'm like, have you watched Huntley play since the one game he started?
Like, the team has not scored any points.
Right.
And even like the only guy that's really like truly overcome that maybe is Malik Willis.
But I feel like he was also drafted in a spot that he was expected to be improved and kind of groomed into a starter.
It wasn't like he's just like a backup that gets into play.
And like all the Eagles fans have been going nuts for Tanner McKee for five years based on preseason.
He could barely complete a pass last night.
He was terrible.
You know, the Malik Willis thing, though, was that the Packers did a great job of game planning for him.
So they put him in the game that all these zone reads, all these fun play action passes.
And now, look, he's in a real offense.
And it looks like seven receivers and halfway decent O-Line.
Yeah, like.
And obviously, yeah, Tanner McGee was terrible last night, dude.
The guy, the guy was freaking awful.
And that's the thing.
Backup quarterbacks, their backups for a reason.
reason, right? I mean, that's just the way it's going to be. You are a smart person. Some would say you're
smarter than me. Some would dispute that. Did you see Dan Arlovsky, who we like, and I know you
argued with on the internet this week. Talk about percentages, Mitch. I was a little floored with this.
I think some things don't have to be. I did not. I did not see the clip. So break it down,
give us the context. Basically, if I'm wrong, Matt and Sam, let me know. Basically, Danilofsky said,
he didn't know percentages were out of 100.
So, like, he just thought it was out of, I don't know, something.
But like, he didn't realize it was out of 100.
Am I right on that?
I think I'm right on that.
Like, let me, I think it's a gist of it.
He just didn't know that that it was out of 100.
He went this long spiel about, like, what, where the origin of the word percent
came from, a percentage.
And then, like, he's like, yeah, I didn't realize it was out of 100.
That is absolutely bad shit crazy.
So what? It's just like it's a 48% out of 72?
Like, I don't even know how to respond to that.
Here's the AI version of what he said.
Well, discussing stats with colleague about Joe Burroughs Sack rate, Ollowski asked what
4% actually meant in plain terms.
This is the AI, okay, AI review, okay?
Let's let you know.
When told it meant 4A.
Every 100 dropbacks, Orlovsky impressed shock the percentage were actually calculated out of 100,
and meaning, quote, not a big numbers person.
Again, this is the AI.
This is the AI overview.
I don't know if it actually went down like this, to be fair.
But like, no, no, it's what he said.
He said, well, every 100 dropbacks you're getting stacked four times.
And I said, is that really what it is?
Like, it's always out of 100.
And he's like, yes.
Okay.
Well, I already argued with him once this week.
So I don't know that I can say anything negative about him again.
You play with him, right?
briefly.
Yeah, briefly, yeah.
You were on a roster with him for three and a half months.
It was a percent of my career.
I was with the Lions.
He was there.
He was there as well.
Dan's a, I like Dan.
It was another wrong, Dan.
But like, that was an admission that like,
I'm like, I can't believe you said that out loud.
I guess I don't know how you function this long
in the NFL with all the stats that you get.
He's got a very important seat at ESPN.
He's clued into numbers.
He understands what all that means.
And you just quite literally don't understand
how percentages work or how to interpret them.
I honestly, I don't know how to respond.
So I wish I could, I know we're not supposed to not go silent on a freaking podcast,
but I don't know what else to say.
It's, it's just, it's, yeah, like, when they hand them the percentage every week, like, hey, they blitz on 37% of downs.
Did he just, did he not know what that meant?
Brian Flores blitzes 85% of all plays.
We only blitz 47 times.
I can't be 85%.
Well, that's obviously, I just, I want to, I hate that so much, that plus percentage number.
All right, Mitch, any last words?
I do know what percentages are.
to Cal, so I'm clearly a smart person and smarter than you.
What's the percentage of you've watching Cal Football this year to make that comment?
0%.
I do know that we have a quarterback that was supposed to be pretty good, and we have a head coach
that I was really excited for.
Now those things are true at the moment, so.
I said a head coach that I was excited for, given that I've watched zero Cal football,
and I've only briefly seen the record and the result of last week.
I can't really say why the team is doing what they're doing.
But can you, does Oregon have a deal for JKS?
What's going on there?
I don't know.
We need someone.
That was the rumor, what, two or three weeks ago that JKS was like hurt for Cal,
but he was supposed to play.
And then all of a sudden before the game,
right after the Dante Moore injury, like he just wasn't going to play.
He is, he is a former duck.
So maybe he wants to come back home to Oregon.
He was, he committed Oregon for, he committed.
He went to Oregon for two days.
during Rose Bowl practice a few years back
and then was like,
ah, I'm not going to play
and transfer to Cal.
I actually didn't know that
because all I knew was that he was like a true freshman
and really good.
So the fact that you just said
he's a former duck completely blew my mind.
Yeah, he was there for like two days.
Like legitimately,
so when guys come in and show up in January now, right?
Mitch, like they come much earlier now
and they just go to bowl practice if you're in a bowl.
Like they just go to bowl in December
and he got there and was like, I'm not going to play.
And so he was,
Dante Moore was there and they went to Cal
and it's not going.
very well this year. I don't know what we're going to do. Oregon's in a bad place right now.
Corner of hire was not good. He got fired. I'll trade you your two losses for our two victories.
Well, the difference is expectations, Mitch. Expectations. You guys might still get your win total.
We are not going to make our win total this season for Oregon. So this is real quick.
The UCLA head coach, is he going to be one and done? Is he going to get hired away?
It's a good question.
So I don't know.
It depends on the job.
Like if Texas comes calling, he's leaving for Texas, like if Sark gets fired.
If that's probably about it.
I mean, I'm trying to think of like what job would be open.
I mean, USC might be open.
I don't think he'd take USC.
You can't go to UCLA like that.
But like you're not going to have a ton of big jobs open.
I mean, I don't think Michigan will be open.
People like, well, what if Kyle Woodham doesn't work out?
I don't think that's going to happen.
SEC the big jobs are all spoken for.
There's not going to be a, you're not losing any of those top jobs.
Is there like a Penn State or like?
Not Penn State just has a brand new coach.
They're not going to get rid of, of, uh,
Florida State and Clemson.
Dab.
Yeah, I guess if they get rid of Dabo, sure, but they owe Dabo 70 million in, in a buyout,
which I think they're going to want to do.
So I think Chesney will be there for now.
I did see talk today about UCLA attendance issues.
And I keep bringing up the same point.
Usually fans hate it.
Like, you got to redo Drake Stadium.
You can't play the Rose Bowl anymore.
I love the Rose Bowl.
We went there as kids, obviously.
I actually did see some of that game.
I had it on TV.
Yeah.
And I was like, oh, my God.
They put up enormous UCLA tarps across both end zones,
which is very smart because it covers up 50,000 seats.
So the stadium does actually look more full.
The Coliseum USC has done that.
But like their stadium seats 114,000.
Yeah.
And the seats that USC covers up are like unwatchable.
They're so far away.
They're behind the end zone, yeah.
Right.
It's not like designed for football.
But the fact that the Rose Bowl, basically both entire end zones,
covered up the entire top of it.
It does look great.
And the UCLA blue is a beautiful color.
So like, I do like that they did that instead of just having it be playing.
But I was like, oh, my God.
Like I haven't seen the Rose Bowl like this.
Yeah, they've been doing that since probably, shoot.
I mean.
Shows you how much football I watch.
I mean, it's been, it's.
Yeah, but UCLA also has not been in...
There's no reason to watch UCLA.
3.30 Eastern in the last 15 years either.
So that's part of it as well.
And that game was on right in the middle of the day as they beat Michigan State there.
They're the undefeated team.
There's three in college football.
And one of them is UCLA, Utah and one other one.
There's a third one out of there.
I forget who it is now.
Hopefully McAfee feels welcomed in Los Angeles later this year.
Jeez, how about that?
What a...
You just can't be that solid.
The internet's sometimes mean, I don't tell you, man.
The video that he's upset about wasn't even bad.
It just you can't, you can't, you can't like be like, in my opinion, like a bravado tough guy, like, which I think he is.
And I like McAfee.
I like his grind.
I like his hustle.
Like I like what he's made for his career.
It's not my, I've since before it's like not my cup of tea.
I don't listen to him.
But I appreciate the work that he does.
But you can't sort of have this image of my.
opinion of like tough guy bravado and then be so upset and sensitive about everything that's said
about you that's a little bit mean yeah i mean i mean i would agree with that and also this idea
that like i know it kind of went out when the album came out but this idea that like he's this huge
underdog and like all this stuff like i don't know i feel like there's a lot of mixed messaging
coming from him in the last year or so
when you are someone who
not even the bravado thing just like
high energy obviously
he believes in what he believes in
I think the going to college game day
the idea that like I'm going to learn
the songs of the places that I'm at I'm at.
I'm going to sing them like at the fans hype like that was
genius. The first few years
I think it was an excellent job.
There was the Alabama
at the Rose Bowl clip which is probably the funniest
college game day clip.
Oh, the whole time.
When he does the go dogs and it says roll tide?
No, no, no.
The one where Reese Davis was doing his link.
That might be the best.
The one you're talking about too is one of the better clips.
But the, oh, it's getting hot up in here.
That was one of the best, just like improvved one and a half minutes of kind of rivals the
Charles Berkeley three times trying to guess the player in the team.
Oh, my God.
That was so good the other night when they did that.
Oh, my God.
I think I'm the one that Charles Barkley says, I like when you're banging dudes.
When you feel their body and you're trying to spin off.
The Barclay stuff is like, have you seen the Barclay one?
I know we're just vamping now.
The one we talks about having like to wash his jersey with like, where's in the hotel to shower?
And the guys are you talking about?
What are you going to wash it?
Like Chuck, there's other ways to wash it.
It's so good.
It's so good.
I think, look, the point is we both, I think, appreciate what McAfee does and what energy he brings.
But, like, you just can't be this sensitive on the internet all the time.
It's just, it's not a place for you.
So where I was going with that is, like, his style is not one that's like everyone's going to love it or everyone's going to be on board with it.
And then also the idea of, like, not to say he's being combative, but like the way he kind of plays with the audience at Game Day.
Like, he sets them up and he like likes to kind of go back and forth.
So just his entire being isn't like Mike Greenberg that's like, I'm here for everybody.
I'm going to be right down the middle.
Everyone's going to love me.
Like it is, it's not a divisive personality, but like it is a personality that lends
itself towards people are going to hate or people are going to absolutely love.
So yeah, I don't follow all the McAfee stuff.
It does seem like every single week there's now something coming out that like he's
taking offense to something or he's kind of thrown aside commented some publication.
But yeah, I mean, Meteoric rise obviously gets paid a ton of money.
It does seem like he does a lot of good stuff with his money and make sure his crews paid and all that.
But yeah, I'll let you have the final word on that.
Again, you can, two things can be true, right?
One can be true that everything you said is actually does good work with his money.
He's built this brand that's great, takes care of his buddies, but also just you can't like equate a couple videos where someone calls you corny in one tweet
from like four months, four weeks ago about like, you know, again, I don't know if you get this much.
I'm more vocal on the internet maybe about a lot of different terms than you are, but like I'll get
that every once in a month like something about being a Jewish.
It's like, and this thing that's going on about us, the photo of me and you with Nanyahu.
Like, it's so fucking stupid, man.
Yeah, I just block out those people instantly.
I know why.
It's so we, yes, guys, we went to Israel in 2018 and we met Nanyahu.
Like, I, okay?
Like, I don't, like, what is, dude?
Like, not.
go a trip eight years ago before everything happened.
I don't know what you want from us.
We're not going now.
I'm not going to Israel now to meet him.
So dumb.
But I'll get like a, you know, a DM that's like, go to hell, Jew, boy,
such shit like that, you know, almost like whatever, man.
I just blocked a person and move it along.
Like, every time that happens, I'm going to go in there and whine about it.
Like, it's so, so dumb.
Like, this internet is what it is.
You have to take it for what it is, Mitch.
Any last words?
Anything on your mind?
No, I don't even know who's on Thursday
football, but I look forward to watching a little bit of that.
I think it's Panthers, I think, off that just horrendous loss.
Yeah, Panthers, it's not.
Panthers Packers.
Oh.
Panthers Packers.
All right, two teams that are Jekyll and Hyde
and can't always finish.
How do we feel about Chiefs Broncos?
Quickly, what do you got on that one?
Well, after this week, I'm a little more pessimistic.
I would like to see the injury status of Zach Allen if he's going to miss.
I do think having Jonathan Cooper back is assuming that he's kind of in shape and able to rush the passers.
It's a big deal because Denver hasn't been like the defensive front that we expected coming into the year.
Sertan, I think is supposed to be back.
So it kind of matches up.
I do think Rishie Rice is maybe supposed to be available too.
you are getting some guys healthy on both sides.
But it feels like a similar matchup in that if Denver,
especially if Allen's playing,
can control some things up front,
the back end isn't going to be as open as well
because of how good Denver is.
And so now you're looking at,
again, that first game was like a beatdown,
a physicality beatdown.
But one, they're going to be more prepared.
They're going to know what to expect.
And two,
you just can't expect Kenneth Walker to have career games every single week.
And if he's not able to have all the yards over-expected,
all the yards after contact, break 10 plus tackles,
then that kind of stagnates the offense.
So I think it should be a really good game.
I'm going to be curious about that.
Maybe Bo Nix has his mojo back a little bit
after that 60 plus yard run.
Ankle feeling better, you know, mentally,
maybe in a better place.
Sean Payton, I guess, is now a brilliant play caller again.
So, yeah, I think it'll be a good one.
I'm looking forward to it Sunday.
I will be back.
We have a Thunderbats playoff game at one.
130. So we backed 9 and one thunderbats. Number two in the seating, Mitch, out of 28 teams,
the 9 and 1 Thunderbats. We have a puck game Sunday at 1.30. I didn't for no apparent reason on
Sunday. Great extension on that photo. Oh, but Emmy? Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's the arm all the way up.
So my son today, by the way, first middle school sport today, swim tryouts, non-cut non-cuts.
We make the team anyways, but not a cut sport. That's a survival instinct. It's not a sport.
He's swimming today.
First middle school sport starts today for him.
So first meet is next week somehow.
Takes after his mother.
He definitely does on that.
Not me.
All right, everyone.
We'll talk to you guys on Friday with Matt,
and we'll be back with Mitch on Tuesday.
Take care.
Enjoy the football.
Bye, everybody.
