Geoff Schwartz Is Smarter Than You - Georgia Then Everybody Else, Predicting Playoff Rankings, and Geoff’s Thicc Six
Episode Date: November 8, 2021Geoff and Gabe break down the results of an ugly survive and advance Saturday, starting with Geoff’s predictions for the next playoff rankings release and who the Thicc Six at the top of th...e AP poll will be. The selection committee’s logic in starting Cincy outside the top 4 is beginning to show, and Oklahoma could move all the way up to number two even though they were on a bye.Gabe points out that the Big 10 is tearing itself apart just in time for Ohio State to sweep in and win it all, but Geoff thinks Michigan might have something to say about that. Alabama’s struggles up front versus LSU show they aren’t the Bama we’re used to, but if they aren’t the second best team in the country, who is? And Oklahoma is poised to run through the Big 12 and straight into the CFP title game, but Geoff isn’t impressed by any of their wins so far.If you see any Thicc Sixes, send them to @geoffschwartz on Twitter for his approval! It's Monday, November 8th. I'm Jeff Schwartz alongside Gabe Goodwin.
This is Jeff Schwartz. This morning you're powered by the Varsity Podcast Network.
It was a survive and advance Saturday for most of the culture ball teams out there,
except a couple in the top ten. It was a tough day for almost everyone,
except Georgia will run through our top six in the stories of the day.
But first, Gabe, I think I speak for all parents out there.
Screw fallback, daylight savings, whatever the hell this is.
No one likes it.
No one likes their kids waking up at 530 in the morning.
I don't know why we do this to ourselves in this country, man.
It's frustrating.
It makes absolutely no sense.
It's a survive and advance Sunday now as a result of this crap.
I don't know.
Who is this for?
Are there like farmers somewhere that still benefit from this?
Like what? What are we doing? I had a buddy turned 40 yesterday. We had a 40th birthday party and
in celebration of him, his wife threw a 19th anniversary of your 21st birthday party. So
we had 10 dudes in a backyard playing a game called Snappa. I've never played this. I'm sure
some people have it's basically
just beer pong with dice and jeff i'm not in that kind of shape you know i've been doing triathlons
on the weekend i haven't been slamming course lights jeff it was a horrible wake-up call this
morning so we are we're not um we're not one of those parents that like limits screen time like
because because we want to limit screen time like We're not like, no, iPads.
We don't really use iPads in the morning.
No, no, no.
Last night, Oregon ends the games over at 1130.
My wife had already fallen asleep because she does not care about football, which is fine.
I scoured the house.
I found the iPads.
I made sure they were charged.
I threw them on the couch, and I went to bed.
I was like, kids, don't just – they know.
They're older.
Seven to five, they know if the iPad's on the couch,
you get to watch them in the morning.
And it was an iPad morning.
But yeah, man, Survive and Advance Saturday.
Look, this happens every year in college football
where we have one weekend.
And it just so happened after the playoff rankings came out,
this was the weekend where it's like,
ooh boy, it is winning on this Saturday was ugly,
but a lot of teams ended up getting those wins.
And we'll get to our top six.
We're gonna call it our thick six, actually.
It's one of, Mike Gola came up with this.
You know, there's fat guy touchdown.
There's all these hashtags, a thick six, right?
Any thick player, a big boy who scores a touchdown,
no matter how it happens,
is going to be our thick six, top six.
And look, it's very simple.
It's Georgia number one.
There's no doubt about that.
Really, Georgia's defense number one.
And then everyone else, who the hell knows
who's after this, okay?
I think we have to reward teams
that have won football games,
but look, Alabama's going to be number two here, as they were last week. They beat LSU 2014,
barely. LSU had the ball at the end with a fourth down opportunity to go ahead and win this game.
They won, so Alabama's going to be two. Oregon's going to be three now, go from four to three.
They won 26-16 against Washington.
An ugly game that the Ducks tend to play at times.
But Washington only had seven first downs, 166 total yards on offense.
Oregon ran the ball for nearly six yards to carry.
A bad turnover kind of set up Washington early in the game.
They'll be three.
Are they the third best team in the country?
No, I don't think so.
I just, I don't.
Ohio State will be four, I'd imagine.
They, again, now they played a couple better teams now, right?
Now, Nebraska's not good on offense,
but defensively, they're good.
And they struggled to get by,
just like Oregon did on the road.
But again, survive in advance, right, Gabe?
They won 26-17.
They'll be four.
Cincinnati will be five.
They struggled at home against Tulsa.
Tulsa had the ball near the end zone at the end of the game to tie that game.
Well, it would have been down two.
They need to convert an extra point at home.
I mean, guys, this is why they're not in the top four.
They play a schedule that is unlike any of the top teams in the country
because they're in a group of five, and they don't win the games convincingly I know that people complain
especially my school working oh you don't you know you barely beat Cal but that's Cal it's not Tulsa
right like it's it's it's a different situation and in number six look I put Oklahoma six I don't
know why they're not this high I could if you put Oklahoma two, fine. They're undefeated. Like they need to be somewhere in these rankings.
That's how I think the rankings will be.
I'd be okay, again, if Cincinnati, Oklahoma were in the top four
because they're undefeated.
And this is all going to play itself out, right?
But the reason why Cincinnati is not in the top four, in my opinion,
is it's going to be hard to justify taking them out of the top four
if they keep winning.
I don't think the committee wants them in.
Agree or disagree, they don't want them in.
And so if you put them at four now, it's like, well, they're going to win out.
How do you justify moving them out of four?
You could definitely justify them moving up,
and they're going to move up to five now because of Michigan State's loss.
But that's the top.
That's our thick six.
Sponsors, please, if you're listening, you may sponsor that segment. It's okay. Gabe, what, that's the top. That's our thick six sponsors. Please, if you're listening,
you may sponsor that segment. It's okay. Gabe, what do you mean by top six?
Well, I'm a little, I'm a little confused again by Oklahoma. We didn't see him play and they get
Baylor who suddenly doesn't look quite as great. So a win next week over Baylor wouldn't mean quite
as much. We'll get into some of that, but I'm a little confused by them. And I'm
thinking maybe what Cincinnati should do next year is schedule a game against Purdue because
Purdue beats all the best teams. Then the problem is solved for us. We don't have anything to worry
about since they'll just fall off when they lose to Purdue problem solved. Um, Purdue is knocking
high rank teams off at an alarming rate. That's all they do.
They can't do anything else terribly well,
but they win a lot of games against teams that are ranked.
They beat Iowa 24-7 at home.
They just beat Michigan State 40-29.
And look, there was some concern about Michigan State,
I think, heading into this game.
The thing that surprised me most about this game
is Michigan State knew it was a trap game.
They knew it was.
They acknowledged it this week.
So did Mel Tucker.
They acknowledged it this week.
They talked about it.
They knew it.
And they still couldn't do it.
They had the slowest moving trick play of all time.
And somehow Michigan State could not make a play.
Kenneth Walker's Heisman candidacy, poof, probably up in the air, right?
They allowed Aiden O'Connell, their quarterback, had like 500 yards passing.
Now, Bell, the Bell kid, the wide receiver for Purdue,
Aiden O'Connell had 536 yards passing at Michigan State.
That's incredible.
And as Hank knows, our producer in our chat here,
this is very true though,
Gabe, you have actually knocked off more top five
teams than has Purdue this year.
Yeah, I've been jinxing teams left and right.
Line up. If you want to see a team go
down, I can just spotlight them right
here on this show and then that pretty much
guarantees them a loss that weekend.
So, why don't we do that?
You know, we sort of just hit on the first thing I wanted to bring up
because I mentioned Purdue, so you took us right into the Big Ten
and the mess that we now have there.
I think the way that this is going to shake out, though,
is kind of indirectly the way that you've been saying all along,
which is that eventually these teams all just murder each other
and it's Ohio State sitting there as the best team with one loss
and everybody chill.
It'll happen. And now it's happening.
So tell me about Ohio
State. Do they look good enough? Because
I don't see a team that is obviously
a top four playing team
even though they're probably going to be in the top
four. Guess who they play this week?
Ohio State does.
The Purdue Boilermakers. Yeah, it could happen. But it's at home. Ohio State's the Purdue the Purdue Boilermakers yeah it could
happen but it's at home Ohio State's at home Purdue's not gonna win this game me and Purdue
are a team now for knocking off the top team the thing about Ohio State and again all the teams
this year this is this is just the way it is outside of Georgia's defense and really Georgia
as a whole every team sort of has a couple flaws at times the team has one flaw right
but every team so you know Ohio State right just against better defenses they're not as good in
the red zone CJ Stroud's not as accurate those a little too many interceptions their offensive
line is kind of not as good as we thought at times against better teams defensively they're
playing better but still kind of prone to give up some big plays. So they'll beat Purdue this weekend.
They're at and they're home against Michigan State,
which Michigan State can still beat them.
Even though they lost that game, they can still.
And they go to Michigan.
And maybe this is the year Michigan finally wins this game.
Michigan, by the way, could be the playoff team out of Big Ten,
the way they're playing right now.
They just smashed.
They didn't smash someone last night.
They beat Indiana last night.
I believe that game ended up being a 29-7.
Their defense is outstanding.
Ohio State's not moving the ball in Michigan.
The question is, can Michigan move the ball in Ohio State?
So there's plenty of opportunity, I think, for Ohio State to lose.
It just feels like a year where everyone's going to kind of have some stumbles.
Ohio State's probably not going to win out.
Michigan might not win out. Oklahoma, their schedule's tough not going to win out. Michigan might not win out.
Oklahoma, their schedule's tough.
Oregon might not win.
Like, it's hard to imagine all these teams just doing what they're supposed to do
because this is a year where there's just a lot of chaos because, again,
a lot of teams just have more flaws than usual,
and we don't see that off of the top four to seven teams.
Yeah.
I want to talk about specifically, though, with Ohio State,
what they do have.
They might be struggling.
Stroud doesn't always look like the obvious Heisman candidate we wanted.
They've given up some points.
But what they have is what I think sort of knocked them off last year,
which is unbelievable amount of first-round talent receivers, right? So they got
the sophomore Jackson Njigba, hard to say his name. I hope I got that right, young man. Yeah,
240 receiving yards. We know about Wilson. He can play. Stroud, who doesn't look amazing to me,
seems like he always has three, 400 passing yards. So are they just doing something different with
the receiver position there?
Why,
why are all those guys looking so good?
So what Ohio state does,
and this is some of the knocks on why it was hard to buy with Justin Fields
is they don't really have much of an intermediate passing game.
It's like a,
it's a deep,
deep shot.
They take like,
they go for the jugular.
They take a lot of chances deep. So these guys are
great athletes. They block them up and they say,
hey guys, go beat
athletes that are inferior to you.
And they do. And they go ahead and do that.
But again, it takes
time to develop at times. And so against these
better defenses, they're not going to let you
do that. They're going to say, we're going to sit in zone.
We're taking those plays away.
Hit us with a quick passing game. Hit us with an intermediate pass pass and that's not really what they do well so that's why
the you know the wide receivers even when they're double there was a couple plays against um
Nebraska where they're double they had guys that got open and they just you know start over through
them or there was a contested ball that's what their offense is there a lot again a lot of kind
of shot plays down the field okay that helps me
understand a little bit better the uh the other receiver we're going to get a look at with when
we're looking at Ohio State is David Bell over at Purdue right a couple big games in their big wins
I you know the Heisman race this year is wonky we've been joking about a punter being a Heisman
winner this year and he had a he kicked a ball, I believe the 11 yard line all the way to the one
last night. Yeah. He's got a monster leg, uh, Matt Ariza. We've talked about him here. Uh,
Hank, the producer is desperate for him to win a Heisman. I don't think it's going to happen, but
the Heisman class is sort of hard to define. So this kid at Purdue, the receiver 11 catches in
both their big wins over 200 yards in both those games. I guess he's on the list.
Do you know much about his game?
Should I expect to see more of him in the future?
I would imagine so.
I mean, you put up numbers like that.
And here is something that scouts talk about, and Heisman too, right?
This is important.
How do you play your biggest games, right?
In your biggest games, do you play your best?
And David Bell last night, and obviously one of their bigger games this season, he he i'm going to pull up now to make sure i have the right numbers um he had 11 catches for
217 yards or the season against uh iowa i'm going to pull this up to make sure i have this against
iowa he had 11 catches for 240 yards like those in big games he has played big this year and that is important
when you look at his his you know his capability and it's possible of getting drafted high
and obviously you'll have more time to go to ohio state this weekend if they're able to do that
just add it to this and he's 662 205 like he's going to be a first round i think he's eligible
to be drafted he's a junior yeah um he willround draft. I think he's eligible to be drafted. He's a junior, yeah.
He will go in the first round because of his play in these big games.
Yeah.
You've seen Ohio State's defense up close in that Oregon game.
Do they have anyone who can cover this guy?
No, not one-on-one probably.
I mean, no one.
I don't think anyone really does.
But Ohio State's defense has gotten simplified a little
bit, and they're not just
sitting kind of in a one-high
shell, and they're doing more creative
things, so their defense has played better lately.
I would expect that to play
better, but against, you know,
the thing about college-wide receivers, I think sometimes it's
different than the NFL, obviously, is
there's just not a lot of college cornerbacks that are
really that good, and so even if you you say we're going to take this guy away sometimes it's just
hard to do like I mean you watch that game last night and you're like oh they're they're going to
target Bell we know that Michigan State knows that and he runs a seven yard hitch route and
breaks the tackle goes 15 more yards it's just the way the college game is so spread out, it's hard to kind of isolate and take away double-team guys.
Is a college team good enough outside of Bama, Clemson, Georgia,
to double a wide receiver?
They don't have time to practice stuff like that.
They don't have time for any of that.
Well, explain that a little bit more because I think I follow,
but what do you mean they don't have time to practice stuff like that?
They have practice.
Okay, so yeah, but in the NFL, obviously, you just have more time to study,
more time to work on techniques, more time to have game plans
that are very specific to individual teams.
Now, these game plans are specific, but we're seeing, obviously,
that some teams kind of just have the same offense with some some wrinkles also the players in the NFL are better so if you say hey we're going to double
this guy you're on an island cornerback okay he's used to that he can do that but in college you
know you have two corners that can do that double one guy and have a single guy over here uh the
hash marks play a role in this right when the field is not as the field is so wide in college
football that it kind of puts a lot of guys on islands
because the safeties can't come and help at times.
And it's just, I've said this for a while, Gabe,
but I do believe it,
that college and NFL are two different games, man.
They're just different games.
They use a different ball.
They have a different field dimensions.
They have a different size goalpost. They're just
different sports almost, but they are both football. Yeah. Yeah. And they both have kickers
in them still, which is a travesty. We're working on that. Oregon State last night, 60-yard field
goal to go to overtime. Sexy. They lost in overtime though, but nonetheless, I thought about
you in that moment. Okay. Thanks for having me come to mind. In that moment, I was probably passed out in my buddy's yard
thanks to this silly game I was playing.
Let's talk about some guys who have looked like they've been passed out
in a yard a few times this season.
They have not looked like the Alabama we expected.
I guess I just have to ask.
You touched on their win, but close win,
against an LSU team that's in total shambles right now.
They barely win.
They rush for like six yards and 20-something carries.
You know, I don't know.
We've just been saying every single week,
and Alabama, and Alabama, and Alabama,
as though it's just a given they're going to win the SEC and be in the playoff.
Like, I don't know, man.
I just, I don't know if they would get the benefit of the doubt.
Certainly with two losses, they won't.
I don't think they have a chance against Georgia.
I think it's time to start talking about Alabama
for what they actually are instead of the reputation that they have.
Yeah, look, they're not as good as they've been in the past.
They've had deficient, they've had defections.
I mean, it sounds terrible. They've had guys
drafted. They've had a lot of players drafted
on offense. And
again, we're seeing across
college football
that there are teams
with a bunch of flaws.
And last night, their offensive
line was not as good as it's been in the past.
It got Bryce Young in trouble.
I am, I'm gonna, someone tweeted me this last night.
I'm going to just make sure that I have this right.
Because I don't want to say this without being absolutely sure.
Oh, no, I was right.
Okay.
Yeah, they had six yards on the ground.
Six total yards on the ground.
Yeah, someone, I just said that.
What?
I was the guy who just said it.
I'm sorry.
Six total yards on the ground.
I'm sorry.
Six total yards on the ground.
And I just, they're just not as good this year. I'm sorry. Six total yards on the ground. I'm sorry. Six total yards on the ground.
And they're just not as good this year. But the question is, is that nobody's really good outside Georgia this year.
And Hank brought up a good point.
That's 49 yards after the sack totals.
I forgot about that in college football.
I hate that.
Sack yardage goes on rushing in college football.
That's really weird.
Did you know that?
Yeah, but give me a break here.
Again, we lost an hour of sleep.
You know, I've been...
No, no, I forgot that too.
I was like, oh, total yards, six yards.
Oh, so no, they're just, Gabe,
they're not as good as you are,
but we default to teams we know that have performed well in these big moments.
And Alabama over the years has.
And by the way, there's no guarantee they're going to even be in the SEC Championship game.
If they lose to Auburn, let's say, in the Iron Bowl and A&M wins out,
A&M wins the West and they are in the SEC Championship game.
So, I think right now, and I was kind of of the opinion that Bama could give Georgia game.
I don't know,
man.
Georgia's defense is so good.
It'd be tough.
I think it's,
it stands right now.
Yeah.
Well,
you,
you know,
I'm glad you brought up A&M because they have the head to head.
They suddenly look pretty good.
I mean,
we were confused by them in the early part of the season,
dumped some games.
They probably shouldn't have,
but they were dealing with some injuries.
What are the chances
Alabama does lose to Auburn, and then
could A&M beat Georgia
somehow? Like, could we get a total
mess and have nobody out of the SEC?
Well, if Georgia loses that
game to A&M,
they're still going to the playoff.
You think they still go in as a one-loss SEC champ loser?
Yeah, like they're still going to, I think.
I think you're probably right, but they're not Bama,
so they don't get treated with the same level of respect.
So them coming off a loss wouldn't give them the same sort of,
especially if they lose to an A&M who people don't think is as good.
I think there is a scenario.
It seems very, very unlikely, but there is a scenario where the SEC beats itself up to the point who people don't think is as good. I just, I think there is a scenario, it seems very,
very unlikely, but there is a scenario where the SEC beats itself up to the point where they don't
have anyone. I can see people in your mention saying that guy sounds dumb. It just seems very
unlikely the SEC is going to have no one in the playoffs. I know, I know, I know, but I hear you.
But if this, if what you just described, if Alabama loses to Auburn, then A&M beats Georgia,
they're not letting A&M in with two losses.
No.
I wouldn't be sure they're giving Georgia a way in having not beaten Bama.
And now because you already gave room for Cincinnati in this scenario Oklahoma's in,
you're giving a Big Ten champ a spot.
Maybe.
I think that people would be overjoyed if that was the case.
But I just don't see that happening right now.
That would shock me.
It's possible.
All right.
Well, let's go back to Oklahoma then.
So, you know, they were supposed to have a real test against Baylor.
Maybe they still do.
But Baylor doesn't look like we thought they were going to look going into that game.
I keep bringing them up.
We didn't see him this week.
Caleb Williams is just as exciting as ever.
If he has a great few games in this final stretch,
we think he might even be a long-shot Heisman contender.
But they're creeping their way up to that one seed almost.
So talk me off Oklahoma as you do every week.
I mean, talk me off Oklahoma as you do every week um I mean talk you off it I think offensively there's just still some concerns about consistency and I don't think that means that I'm
talking you off of them I think I think they should be ranked higher I just it's crazy to me
that we don't kind of respect teams that have won all their games. But their games just haven't been as pretty as everyone else's.
And they don't have, to my knowledge, they don't have a signature win yet.
I mean, that's the thing about Oregon.
Oregon has that one loss.
Stanford lost is bad.
Stanford's awful.
I told you guys at the beginning, when they lost that game, they're awful.
But what is Oklahoma's best win right now?
Is it?
They get all three of their best chances coming up now.
Right.
And if they win those games,
they're in the playoff.
And I have no qualms about it.
I mean,
they deserve to be in the playoff.
But if they don't,
they're going to Baylor.
Now,
Baylor lost at TCU.
I expected kind of,
I think that was a trappish game,
right,
at TCU,
before you play Oklahoma.
Oklahoma at home,
that's going to be
tougher Oklahoma.
Iowa State always
plays them tough. they don't always win
that game but they play them tough and then Oklahoma State to end the season and defensively
right now Oklahoma State doing some really good things so it would seem unlikely this year
that Oklahoma would run the table and if they do again they deserve to go to the playoff it's very
simple last year Iowa State beat Oklahoma.
The year before that,
Iowa State lost by one to Oklahoma.
So they play close games.
So there's no guarantee
that even that game
will be a win for Oklahoma.
I think it's tough for
all these teams around the table.
But Oklahoma, they do it, they're in.
Simple.
Okay.
Well then, I guess
to wrap up everything
we've talked about today, it sounds to me like
Georgia may never have a better opportunity to win a title than this year. It's like everything
is kind of working in their favor. They look great. And even without an offense that wows us,
they're the best college football team against competition that we've seen in a long time
if they do not win this season it would feel like a big in my opinion a big failure for them
if they do not win this season yeah um it's everything's kind of heading in their direction
to win and you know they might end up getting like Cincinnati in the first round and I don't
think that's a much challenge for them I mean they might get Oregon getting Cincinnati in the first round, and I don't think that's much of a challenge for them.
They might get Oregon in the first game.
As much as an Oregon fan I am, I don't really see that.
Anthony Brown moving the ball to them just seems unlikely.
There's just a lot of...
In any other year where offenses were better,
and they're not as good as they've been in the past,
I'd say, hey, man, Georgia's got...
If they get in a shootout, they allow 30 points.
Can they score 30 points?
But I just don't see that happening this year.
I don't see anyone scoring 30, 35 on this team.
And I think they're probably going to win it all.
If I put money on someone, I'm not sure what the odds are right now.
It would be Georgia.
Okay.
Undefeated team that has never been spoken about at any length on any show anywhere outside of San
Antonio Texas the home of Michelle Beadle the UTSA Roadrunners undefeated 9-0 overall
Conference USA West leading team anything you want to say about UTSA while they're still an
undefeated football team I told my I think I told my poop attack story about UTSA while they're still an undefeated football team? I think I've told my poop attack story about UTSA, right?
Yeah, you did tell us.
That was about as detailed as we got on UTSA.
Yeah, I think that's about it.
That's my only UTSA roadrunner.
No football takes?
They're coaching on a 25-year extension, which seems odd
because he's going to be poached by someone else in a year.
So that didn't make any sense, but he'll get his money.
They have Southern Miss, UAB, a lot of initial teams.
They have the USM, UAB, UNT coming up.
North Texas and Alabama, Birmingham, and Southern Miss.
I mean, look, they're probably going to go undefeated.
If they were to lose, UTSA would probably be the New Year's Six Bowl recipient,
which is crazy.
Can you imagine UTSA and like A&M?
Like UTSA and Michigan in a New Year's Six Bowl?
No.
Oh, boy.
So the Roadrunners getting it done so far.
Yeah.
Well, I just wanted to bring them up again
since the last time I said the name UTSA.
Yeah, you told us a long and very funny poop story.
I do what I can.
And then obviously Cincinnati's undefeated,
which they're going to get love.
Wake Forest went down, by the way, this week.
We didn't mention Wake.
Yeah, that saved us a lot of headaches.
It did, because Wake, and everyone, it's interesting,
when the playoff rankings came out on Tuesday,
they asked Herbstreet about Wake Forest,
who I think was, what, 8-9, right?
And he's like, yeah, they're not very good.
And they can't play defense.
They lost North Carolina 58-55.
They've also played games this year 70-56, 40-37.
And that's it.
And the ACC is interesting.
The ACC could actually see Clemson win the ACC,
which is wild because they're not very good right now.
But the way things are playing out,
they play Wake pretty soon.
They beat Wake.
And they could be in the driver's seat if NC State loses to be in the ACC game which is wild considering how bad
Clemson has been this season well I want to wrap us up by making a prediction
yes because we barely talked about this team in all of this they were sort of an afterthought
and a mention while we discussed a number of other scenarios. Here's some love from Michigan. Listen to the next three games
for Michigan. At Penn State, that's probably a win for Michigan, but it looks like a good win
because Penn State will be ranked and they're playing at home. They should beat up Maryland,
and then they're home against Ohio State. I don't think anyone's paid attention where the game is this year.
They're going to be home against Ohio State November 27th.
I predict they win that game.
And all of a sudden, it's like, of course Michigan is going to win the conference and go to the playoff.
And of course we need to know more about Michigan.
And of course we need to talk to Cade McNamara.
And of course Harbaugh's a great coach.
And everything becomes of course like we need to talk to Cade McNamara. And of course, Harbaugh is a great coach. And everything becomes, of course, like we always saw it coming.
This is the moment where I think people started to sleep on him because they lost.
But they pop back up to life real soon.
They could.
And the problem for them, well, they blew a 14-point lead to Michigan State, which is not great.
Is Ohio State owns
them.
And no matter how good they play, people will still look at that Ohio State game and say
they're not going to beat Ohio State.
Now they go to Penn State this weekend.
I don't know, are you certain they're going to beat Penn State?
I'm letting them beat Penn State.
I'm saying that's a win.
This will be the best opportunity Jim Harbaugh has had since he's been there to beat Ohio
State.
In the big house, possibly for a spot in the Big Joe Championship game,
possibly a playoff spot at birth here with the way their defense is playing,
the way they can run the ball, control the clock.
This is by far the best opportunity for them to beat Ohio State.
If they do not, he might never beat Ohio State.
No, he might never get the chance.
And guess what?
If they beat Ohio State and take their he might never get the chance. And guess what? If they beat Ohio State and take
their side of the Big Ten, then their reward is probably Wisconsin, who we basically called dead
three weeks into the season. I should mention, I think they're on a five-game win streak. Wisconsin
maybe isn't as dead as we thought, but I mean, they looked horrible a few weeks ago, so I wouldn't
think they're much of a test if whoever it is, Ohio State, Michigan, or Michigan State.
They've won five in a row.
Illinois, Army, Purdue, Iowa Rutgers.
They got past Purdue, man.
You got to take them seriously.
And it was at Purdue, though.
And at Purdue is now, as we learn, a death spot for any Big Ten team ranked in the top three uh it's wild right yeah well so
i'm just saying here right now that michigan so this means i'm jinxing them michigan uh is going
to be a team that if they get to that ohio state game they're both going to be probably top five
teams if they don't lose till then yeah we're going to be talking about that game like crazy
and michigan could win it in like really ugly, cold, wet game.
Slow down Ohio State, and then Michigan's going to the Big Ten Championship,
and we're acting like we never had a chance to predict it.
Well, here it was. Here's my prediction.
I would say that Michigan would be happy to win that game 2-0,
as long as they win that game.
I don't think they care what it looks like.
Again, it's just their year.
It's their year, man.
Their year to get it done is this season.
And if they don't again,
they'll never get the chance.
They never.
Jeff, we got an NFL show to do this week.
What a crazy...
I mean, the second after we sent our files
to upload last week's podcast,
the NFL world went completely bananas. I mean, some bad,
sad, horrible news, and then some crazy, wild, polarizing, ridiculous news and some trades. And
I mean, it was nuts. It was just nonstop news last week. So we got to circle back to some of that.
Anything you want to touch on here? You want to just throw some Aaron Rodgers takes around,
Jeff? Just not even think about it. Just say whatever you feel.
It doesn't matter.
Oh, geez.
The Aaron Rodgers stuff.
The best, by the way, the best response so far.
And we're going to have to get into Rodgers on Tuesday,
even if, I mean, no matter what happens this weekend in the NFL,
we're recording this Sunday morning.
We're going to have to talk about Rodgers.
I think my brother tweeted out something like,
I hope Rodgers still lists Butte College
as his shout out on Sunday Night Football or something like that, and just to disown Cal.
The thing is just, I'm not doing it. I'm not doing it. We're not doing it. We're not doing it,
guys. We're not doing it. Save it. Save it. We'll talk about Jordan Love and how he looks on the
field. We'll talk about all the other good competitive teams in the NFC.
We got a pretty decent NFL weekend.
Not as good an NFL weekend as usual.
But the league always surprises us.
So we'll do that on Tuesday.
Last thing, by the way.
Your boy had another 3-0 Pac-12 weekend.
Odd boy.
22-9 in public Pac-12 plays so far this year, everybody.

Leave a question.
We'll answer it on a mailbag as well.
All right, guys.
