It is Friday, April 22nd, not Friday, Tuesday, April 22nd.
I'm used to Fridays, Tuesday, April 22nd.
Jeff Schwartz, Jeff Schwartz is smarter than you.
We're doing our mock draft extravaganza as we promised.
It's our favorite show we do each and every year.
We've got all of us here, Jeff Schwartz,
Matt Ford as usual, Gabe Goodwin is here.
Hank is back as well for the mock drive.
We need some football knowledge from the four of us.
So I brought Hank back for this one, guys.
How are we doing?
Gabe's already shaking his head.
We're 12 seconds in.
I, when you said we needed some knowledge,
I didn't know how, if you put a period or a comma
before then talking about it. No, I think he was talking about me. Okay. We needed some knowledge, I didn't know how if you put a period or a comma before then talking about it
No, I think he was talking about me
Okay
We needed some knowledge. So here's where it's gonna go guys as we normally do now that I have the date, right?
We're all oriented. Uh, we're gonna go through 32 teams in the first round
Everyone has the original first round pick for now. It's the latest has happened. I think like 20 years
We might have trades we decided that we're just gonna let it go this year. We're just going to see what happens.
We're going to rotate picks.
It's been set up to where some of us have our favorite teams.
Gabe has the his Jets who he loves the commanders.
I believe we're given to who is given to Matt has the commander.
So, you know, wait for that week.
I think, you know, I deserve to maybe pick for my favorite team.
That was my thought process.
Any objections?
No, no, no.
I got the cheese, I got the panthers.
So we'll just start going through this thing here.
As we know, there are odds for these picks as well.
So I hope we're not too off the rails here
on how we end up doing this.
Who knows?
But let's start with Matt.
You the first pick of the draft, Matt.
Who are we taking?
Man, I don't think I've ever picked first before.
Just quick question.
Any phone calls?
Anybody making a call here?
Anybody?
This is one of the least desirable first picks
overall that I can remember.
I disagree as the GM of the Titans.
I think this is a great spot to be in.
I think everybody should want to trade up.
Anybody, anybody?
Cleveland?
No?
Okay.
I think that boat sailed like two months ago.
Yeah, the phones are a little quiet here in Nashville.
So we're going to go ahead and take Cam Ward.
Boring.
I thought about just blowing this whole thing up,
but let's stick with some reality here.
We'll take the best quarterback maybe in the class and make this one kind of easy.
Cam Ward, welcome to the Titans.
I think that's happening.
And I thought for months the Giants would trade up, which we talked about, but it
just seems very likely that Cam Ward is going number one to the Titans at this point.
I mean, we'd hear something about something.
He's like minus 10,000.
If you want to lay $10,000 to win a dollar
for him to be the first pick overall here.
So, it might get, might get interesting at two.
The favorite right now is Travis Hunter in the market.
Hank, you have the second pick in the draft.
What do we got?
Yeah, I mean, I know Travis Hunter's the favorite,
maybe the better player overall,
but I just think when you have the chance
to get a quarterback who can be like a, you know, a transformational quarterback for your franchise. I think it should or Sanders
for the Browns would have to be the pick. I think, oh, oh, hold on. I'm getting a phone
call. It's it's it's Dion's agent. Wait, let me see.
Oh, no, Dion's agent here. Dion says you cannot pick Shador, Sanders and Cleveland.
He's not willing to go there.
So change your mind.
Wait, what? I can't have.
OK, well, can I have Travis Hunter then?
Is that OK?
It's fine. OK, we'll take Travis Hunter.
Can I ask a real question here, Jeff?
Probably the last time I'll do that today.
Yeah.
Mm hmm.
Why wouldn't the Titans just take Travis Hunter?
He's clearly the best player we've seen
coming out of college in a long time.
They have a perfectly adequate recent draftee
at quarterback, they're not paying a lot at the position.
Nobody thinks Cameron works.
Who's adequate?
Yeah.
Yeah, that guy's adequate.
Oh man.
You do not bet on the Tennessee Titans every week.
Like Matt and I do.
I don't know.
Isn't there some Kirk cousins available right now?
Maybe even the real Kirk cousins.
Like why would anyone do this?
Yeah.
I think you just, you have to convince yourself
to take some of the quarterback till you find one, right?
And like Travis Hunter doesn't get them any closer
to their end goal.
Cam Ward does.
If it doesn't work out,
they'll get the quarterback next year, the year after that. like Travis Hunter doesn't get them anywhere closer, I think,
to what they want to be. And if you're the head coach, too, you're getting fired.
If you go four and 13 or five and 12 next year,
rebuilding behind Travis Hunter and wherever else you draft.
So you just draft Cam Ward. You hope for the best.
I mean, it's as simple as that.
OK, I mean, it's like the show. Hey, Otani of football is coming out and we're like, yeah, we really need a shortstop.
Like, well, why just take that guy?
If you get the chance to get the best quarterback in the class, you just you got to do it.
Even if he's not that good, you got to take your chance.
OK, and the show hit comes interesting because is he ever going to pitch again?
And you have Travis like playing both ways in college, you know, in the 12 is one thing.
I actually think, I actually think that this is,
this is actually an interesting discussion.
I think that Hunter was looked at a corner for weeks
and weeks and weeks and now I think he's drafted
as a wide receiver.
I think that consensus now is you just play
in the wide receiver and be done with it.
So I guess I am, I am picked three
and I got the New York Giants here and look, I said for months I thought they would draft Shadr Sanders where they're trapped to one.
They signed Russell Wilson.
They signed Jamis Winston.
I think they just go best player on the board and they take Abdul Carter the defensive end
from from Penn State.
They don't need a defensive end per se. They
have a good defensive line, but this is best player available. They're not taking running
back. They're not taking standards. Maybe someone trades up to three for standards,
but you just go by the board you got and the board tells you Abdul Carter. So pretty simple,
one, two, three here. The Patriots are next year at four. Gabe has this pick. Gabe has done a lot of research, I would imagine,
on who he's gonna draft.
So this could be a special draft pick here.
Well, thank you guys for going out of your way
to give me the Patriots.
That was really kind of you.
I hadn't been on the show in a year,
but you start me out by giving me the team
I've hated more than any team in any sport ever.
So sure, let me help them out with the fourth pick overall.
Elliot Wolf, making decisions now.
After 20 something years of Bill Belichick's reign,
we've got a new guy making the draft picks.
I would like to imagine that he would do like a dad,
Ron Wolf thing and go for the quarterback
like he did with Favre, you know, make the big splashy play.
But we both know, Jeff, you and I i that the patriots are all about being boring there's one obvious boring
right pick which is clearly the one they'll make it's the kid from lsu will campbell is that who
i'm taking yes yes you must love him that's it yeah well i have him to be the fourth pick overall at plus 400. So I really do love Will Campbell a lot and I would very much prefer that that would be
the case.
I think you just take a left tackle here.
Again, this discussion about, you know, best player available versus positional knee because
after Jenji is probably the best player on the board, they need a left tackle though.
Like they don't have a left tackle.
So you just take Will Campbell and you worry about it later.
Now everyone says Matt here with the fifth pick in the draft.
The draft starts with Jacksonville and as of Monday,
which was yesterday because today is Tuesday, not Friday.
We saw the odds move a little bit for this pick from Mason
Graham, the defensive end to maybe Ashton Gentry.
I mean, Mason Graham has to tackle Ashton Gentry
to maybe a wide receiver here at five.
Matt, what is Jacksonville doing at five?
Anybody want to make a phone call for this?
There's a lot of buzz about Ashton Gentry
and people wanting to trade up for him.
But the phones appear quiet, no calls from Deon's agent.
Look, we were interested in Will Campbell as a group.
I'm gonna be honest, we were thinking about our quarterback
constantly getting knocked down.
I don't think we can really take Ash and Gentie.
We kind of like our two running backs,
tough year for Mr. ETN.
Adam Schefter did say this is a wild card team.
I'm gonna say, I'm gonna go ahead
and take Tett McMillan here.
Uh, let's go.
I'm Cohen, uh, came from a system, obviously in Tampa with the Mike Evans.
They have maybe their Chris Godwin, uh, you know, with Ridley there.
Like, I think, I think that a Gen Z forward front office, like Liam Cohen,
they're willing to look past the lack of a work ethic
that Ted McMillan might have.
So I think that they're gonna be fine with a guy
who maybe doesn't love football
and go with Ted McMillan here.
It's also fun because you get your Mike Evans,
Chris Godwin comps from where Liam Cohen came from in Tampa
with him and Brian Thomas.
This was my first player I put on my first mock draft 1.0
that I did on first things first a couple of weeks ago.
So it makes a lot of sense for me.
Genties is free fall in here, Hank, to six to the Raiders.
What do you got for us here?
I mean, Gentie, awesome player,
but I think with Raiders they've shown,
especially if you look at how they spent their money
in free agency, that maybe fixing the defense first is going to
be a bit of priority for them.
And I also think with Pete Carroll, with the success he's had with running backs a little
later in the draft, he might wait.
So I'm going to go get, take the chance to talk about one of my favorite guys here, Jaday
Baron, not a Homer pick at all, although he happened to be from Austin and played Texas.
The question is between Jaday and Will Johnson
as like cornerback two after Travis.
I think if you just look at purely top end speed
and measurables, like cornerbacks typically
don't get drafted that high unless they have that speed.
And Jaday did run in the, call it the high four threes.
Meanwhile, Will Johnson didn't run in the combine.
And then also people forget that Jaday came in
as like a safety nickel, played the star in PK scheme in Texas. So he plays all run the combine. And then also people forget the Jaday came in as like a safety nickel,
played the star in PK scheme in Texas.
So he plays all over the defense.
So if you're building out a defense with the Raiders,
you take a guy like Jaday who can fit in hopefully for a long time.
And then lastly, like he's a dog.
He's so competitive.
He's the type of guy you want to add to a team early.
Trying to get good right away.
It's not the most surprising pick when you think about the Raiders.
If they do not take Genti at six, what are the options, right?
They have a defensive line and Mason Graham, right?
They need, they need him.
I don't know with Wilkinson Crosby, probably not.
Memboo at offensive line.
They don't have to have him, I guess.
Go get the best corner.
And you mentioned Will Johnson was injured last season.
He started running again.
He did a private workout for the scouts
about a week and a half ago.
So there was talk about Baron going to the Jets here
at seven, Gabe, who you have.
I'm sure that that really changed your pick.
Jets at seven, what do you got?
Well, we have a loyal listener
and former contributor to this show,
rightly pointing out that each time Hank speaks, I thank you for noticing that.
That is exactly how I feel right now.
Honestly, if this is what happened and the jets have a new front office for
like the 50th time in my life, do it.
I think they're calling the Cowboys.
The only other team dumb enough to pick up the phone and make the kind
of deal that they could offer here, which is move up to get
Gentie. We all know that that's what they want to do. And I
also have the Cowboys. So that's what we're doing. The Cowboys
have just moved up to the seventh pick overall the Jets
slide down to 12. They'll swap some picks later in the draft
And the Cowboys very aggressively and eagerly take Ashton Gentile
Kind of love that
Kind of love it, too. I
Have a small piece on Cowboys to draft Gentile anyways, so
This would be I'd make a lot of money on this mock draft to tell you that that's fantastic
I'm not gonna be what happened. I was gonna do a whole rant about how bad the Jets are drafting quarterbacks
None of that's needed now. I like that would
Would you would you is this trade more valuable and taking like a toddler Warner for the Jets?
I thought about that. That's why I wanted to take
because I think that the only thing the Jets
really would benefit from is somebody who can be a playmaker
for whichever, you know, quarterback they have probably tired
and also block and keep whichever quarterback is back there.
Kind of safe. So a tight end makes sense.
Yeah. Oh, I like it so much.
That is a good it's a good start to a mock draft.
Dallas moving up just just not even really needed but did do it anyways.
All right.
I got I got the Panthers here in eight guys.
They want to trade down as everyone else.
I don't have anyone to call up and make that trade.
They need help on the defensive line.
They need help a wide receiver with McMillan gone, that's off the board.
I don't think they're drafting any Goldner or Ibuka right now.
So I'll go with Jalen Walker, the linebacker out of Georgia.
Now, he's a pass rusher in the NFL.
This is an important note, guys.
If you choose, if you're a wager on the Panthers draft,
and you wager on defensive line edge, he's
classified as a linebacker.
You lose that wager.
Just telling you right now, just like a little wagering tip here.
He's listed as a linebacker.
He will be a pass rusher.
He's the best football player of the pass rushers available.
So I think Panthers go with Walker here.
At eight, just make sure again that you wager on that correctly if you're taking a peek
at that Matt Saints at nine I won't preface Saints real quickly by saying
that every single person says they're not drafting a quarterback at nine even
their beat writers we did Todd Todd McShane bear bets today so before I
before you pick that pick I just want to make it clear but you might have a trade
I feel your face looks like you're about to have a trade.
But let's hear what you have for the Shades at nine.
I got to say, Jeff, I hear you and I disagree.
See, I think they, I did hear something McShea said
where he said the Shades wouldn't draft Shadur at nine.
They wouldn't draft him at 40.
And that really got my attention.
It seems like they're completely out.
I think that you just, if, they seem like a team that's going to take a bit of a swing to me. and that really got my attention.
Whether Sider is here or not, it seems like they might be in on Dart. And if you get a chance at your quarterback, you got to do
it. So I'm going to say that the Saints are going to go crazy
and take Jackson Dart thoughts.
This is like this is like the Michael Pena thing from last
year. I said Michael Pena is much better. Just sort of out of
nowhere. A team just takes a quarterback they love. I'll tell
you this is the thought if you love a quarterback, take the quarterback.
But that's a certainly plausible thing to be.
The question is, is Jackson Dart really good enough
to be drafted this high?
And I would say probably not.
But nonetheless, I get the thought process.
All right, pick 10 here, Hank.
You have the Chicago Bears.
Couple different ways you can go here. process. All right, pick 10 here, Hank. You have the Chicago Bears a couple
couple different ways you can go here. Yeah, I think the Bears were hoping to
get Gentie here and have the chance to talk about him. But with him off the
board, I think they've been making some calls looking to trade down and they
got a call from Harbaugh, the Los Angeles Harbaugh, because he sees his guy,
Mason Graham, sliding down the board. Somebody coached in Michigan and a defensive tackle, which is a big position
you need for Los Angeles.
So they're going to make the trade move up.
And we've got the chargers.
Wow.
Okay.
Taking Mason Graham at 10 swapping with the bears.
Now I don't think Mason Graham will actually slide this far down to just purely
based on reading people smarter than me, what they think.
Um, but if he is there, I think the Niners are kind of an obvious
team to take him.
I could see, you know, maybe the Dolphins of the Colts looking
that way as well.
So I think I think the Chargers seeing their guys slide a little
bit getting the chance to move up, make an aggressive move.
I like it.
Okay.
Look, so far the trades we've made are realistic.
I like that.
It's not we're not just making trades to make them.
I like this. You know, there we're not just making trades to make them.
I like this.
You know, there was, charges have been mocked
for Kenneth Grant or someone in that range, 22.
Obviously make a move up for the guy.
I thought you were gonna say they're making a move up
for a tight end or something.
Cause the tight ends are over so far.
No tight ends.
And we thought when Warren and,
and Lovett could be gone early. I'm at 11 here, 49ers.
Jeff, I got a tight end question though.
Are either of these guys as good as Bowers?
I think Loveland's as good as a wide receiver,
but I think that, you know, a combination of both,
probably not.
Bowers is a special player and I don't think these guys are quite as good.
It doesn't mean they're bad.
They're just not as good.
So Bowers slid all the way down to 15.
So why are these guys keep getting mocked higher than Bauer?
People just.
I think because the Jets at seven feel like a tight end team.
If it breaks out the way we think it's going to break out.
That's why.
And obviously, I mean, he's the thing, though, in our mock draft, I'm going to take, I'm going to, for the Niner's,
I'm going to take Membu to play right tackle. So the offensive lineman from, from Missouri,
I think they want a defensive lineman here, but they can't pass up that he's dropped to 11.
But now Gabe, who made the trade, can now pick Tyler Warren at 12, the Jets pick up extra draft
picks and get the player they want at 12, which would be a fantastic.
That's the first thing the Jets have ever done. Well, game might be back as a Jets fan if it goes this way.
If they'll just hire me as GM, I'll probably root for them.
Even then, I'd probably take some issues with the team. But yeah, fine. Time saver. Give me Tyler Warren. It's a nice pick.
Okay, I'm next with the Dolphins.
And as much as I want to be a troll and pick Golden, the fast wide receiver,
to just, you know, triple down on speed receiver,
I think they're looking around with these Jalen Ramsey trade rumors.
Will Johnson seems like a nice fit here.
Feels like a nice home for him.
The Dolphins will take Will Johnson at 13.
I think that's a I think the Dolphins and this is the thing
about this draft that I think is so is so interesting is that
once you get sort of past past the top, there's so many
different options for these teams like you can see Miami
go offensive line here, right?
You can see Miami go defensive line even maybe you can see Miami go corner. There's lots of needs for the Dolphins
I like this pick here get up. Look, what do you will Johnson doesn't get hurt?
He's probably a higher pick but injuries happen and that's the National Football League. So I like Will Johnson here
13 to the Dolphins. All right, You have the you have the the Colts.
And Jeff, can I just ask a real football question first?
Yeah.
Isn't Johnson the first player injury now with standing the first player?
We've talked about that.
You're just like, yeah, obviously that guy can just be a very good player in the NFL for a decade.
I don't have any there's no question mark that I'm aware of other than perhaps an injury.
But once he gets into the NFL, isn't he just guaranteed to be good?
Yeah, I feel I mean, I think like I think that the Ash and Gent is also in that boat.
But I think he's going to be good.
Like, I think we 10 years now, which injuries play a role.
But yeah, I think Campbell of all these guys and maybe Travis Hunter
and Abdul Carter, but Travis Hunter for sure
You're like he's good. No matter what he does. I think will Johnson's certainly in that boat. I agree there. All right
Because he wasn't hurt he'd be drafted much higher
the guys insane
Who has access to the to to to the Google Doc?
I do.
We're up to a cult with Hank.
Yeah, I know. Colts, let's go.
So I think it's such a lovely, you know, I know.
Let's check. I think it's going to be the year.
Also, the yeah, I think the cult short just Jeff,
is there any guard here that I should be picking over level?
Oh, my gosh.
They lost will fries.
They might need a replacement.
Oh, the kid from
South Northfield to stay, which I'm sure gave just absolutely.
I'm talking about the same thing.
You're close to the offensive lineman.
Is it Zable?
Oh, great. Great.
Yeah. Great.
They will. I love how bad.
Hey, how much gave his haste to close this for years and years and years.
It calls talk more than anything.
It's just like you say, because it was there.
Matt Ryan was there.
Just just the Colts to Gabe or just to look for us.
Yeah, just just we just out whatsoever.
Jeff, can I put this up to you?
Lovelander, Lovelander's able who should the Colts go with?
I love Lund.
Lund. OK, let's lock it in.
Yeah. So the Falcons get to choose like what defensive end they want essentially, right?
Right here.
Like they get the choice here because they're sitting at 15 and only one, I believe two
Abdul Carter and Walker have gone.
So I'm going to take Mikhail Williams here to be the defensive end in Atlanta desperate
for pass rush.
I think Atlanta too, like,
are they live to trade up for a pass rusher?
I don't know, but I'm gonna take Williams here,
a Georgia kid, and having me the pass rusher
for the Falcons at 15.
Nothing too crazy so far here.
This all seems like it could happen.
Maybe the dart pick, nonwithstanding.
You gonna throw us any surprises here, Gabe?
I'm up.
Yeah.
Oh God.
The Cardinals.
We might know you care deeply.
That might be the only team I care less about
than the Colts.
I tried to prepare for this.
I tried to give like some attention
to what would the Cardinals be thinking. as soon as I tried like my brain went
To a hundred other things almost anything in the world is more interesting to me
Then what the Cardinals will do in the middle of this draft that said Jeff
I imagine they need good linemen because they aren't good and you need good players to block for a run
Yeah, a quarterback who just runs around
like crazy. So give me the best lineman available according to Jeff Schwartz.
Uh, Calvin banks. There we go. Calvin banks makes sense here. Uh, another Texas kid, Hank,
I'll be super pumped about that. Thank you for the agenda. Yep. Is, is here's the thing though is is this our Arizona, Indianapolis
Sneaky like Chaudhary Sanders spots where I wondered they love they just like Chaudhary like they
Calamari I don't know how many how much longer they're gonna want to do that and the Colts have Daniel Richards
I mean Daniel, there's an Andy Richardson right now
I Colts have Daniel Richards. I mean, Daniel, Daniel, Anthony Richardson right now. I might have bet a piece on the Colts to draft Sanders at plus five thousand.
So just just a tiny, tiny little.
I think that can't believe I'm about to talk about the Colts.
I think the Colts can still sell their fan base on the possibility of Anthony Richardson.
I think they don't need to go take another, you know, fifty, fifty call on a quarterback.
I think that was the Dana Jones signing and they gave him, you know close to start of night The Cardinals is kind of interesting though because I like
What have we what are we gonna see this season from Kyler that we haven't seen already?
Exactly. So I'm not sure Sanders is better than color Murray though. That's the thing he's an SP
Also, would you be better off with a still relatively new, like I think if you're the Cardinals front office,
this is year two, right?
Do you want to now hit your wagon to Sanders
or do you want to keep building the roster around him?
And then when you do make the move for a quarterback,
I'm with you.
I agree on that.
All right, Matthew, the Bengals who they were so close
with Superbowl last season.
How are they going to get one, gonna get one player away from getting there?
Yeah, you mean the playoffs, right?
Making the playoffs, is that what you mean?
Well, no, they were the biggest contender in the AFC
if they made the, oh, they didn't make the playoffs.
I forgot, I thought they made the playoffs.
We talked about that when they made the playoffs.
That was the only thing on the back
was making the playoffs.
It appears that the Bengals might need a defensive player.
That's what I've heard is that they have nobody who plays defense on their team.
So I think what do you think Jeff?
Is this where Campbell could go maybe or maybe M and worry?
I can't pretend to know who would make the I think you could choose between Mike Green, the line from Marshall.
I love Derek Harmon.
I think that Derek Harmon here would be a great pick for them.
It sort of looks like choose your flavor defensive end, right?
Like there's not one at this point, Stewart from A&M.
There's not one where I think it's just you have to take.
It's just sort of the flavor.
Like what flavor of ice cream do you like is what they're gonna take here
So you can just choose I think me Walter Nolan can even be here. I mean just just put someone in there
Who do you think let's go with Nolan? I think a little bit more discipline of a pick run defense
Apparently is one of his strengths. So let's go with let's go with Nolan
They need to show up the middle of the defense. Anyway, I
like it.
I'm up. See, I'm still sitting there.
I might expect his Pittsburgh at 21.
We're feeling great there.
Anybody? Anybody want to jump up here?
No, no, no.
All right.
Seahawks here.
I really, I really want to take another Texas player. I think
in the interest of like whatever academic integrity this exercise has, I should not
do Matthew Goldin just because Seahawks just gave a bunch of money to Sam Darnold, guy
who famously, you know, struggles when under pressure and they have nobody in the middle
of their offensive line worth sniffing at.
So I think I would have to go with whoever the top interior lineman on the board is,
which I think would be Gray Zable.
It would be more the center.
Yeah.
Probably play guard too.
And then they also got Clint Kubiak from the Saints.
That outside zone and movement scheme.
I think you need guards who can, uh, who can move their feet.
Jeff, stop me if I'm sounding dumb here.
No, I like tables who have mocked them for weeks months now
He's probably the only surefire interior offense alignment to be drafted in the first round
North go to stay KK. You should check out his film. I'll send it to you so you can watch them
I'm already watching your friend. I'm sure you're free. What do I have on this laptop here?
I don't think you could draft a more offensive guard
sounding name than Gray Zable from North Dakota State.
It was only an option for that kid.
I'm sure you have a bunch of free time later today
between your kids' activities to watch the Gray Zable film.
I'll make sure to clip it to you.
Thank you, the old 22 please.
What other film would you watch? Okay, I have a day. I'm going to
have them taking Campbell linebacker from Alabama who people have said is the best all ball linebacker
to come out of the draft in years and years. I know there's some concerns about recovering from
injury, but you know, David's getting a little bit older and then they just want the replacement
in the middle of the field for him at some point.
So I'll take Campbell from Alabama here for Tampa Bay.
Well, I feel comfortable doing that.
I also, again, have placed a wager in Tampa Bay
to draft a linebacker.
So maybe I'm speaking with my,
with a little too much here.
Influencing the line, I love it.
You just heard Matt Ford cracking his knuckles in anticipation. I'm doing the same
Was nice the TV producer in me loves how this has shaped up. Oh, yeah because
We've got shitter sitting there pulling the Aaron Rodgers pulling the Brady Quinn
Now the local team is on the clock
with the quarterback whispering coach.
And let's be honest, the quarterback position
isn't exactly solved there.
They got last year's Jackson Dart.
But I think they think they're closer than they are.
I don't think, even if if Chador made it this far
They reach for the quarterback. I think they're holding where they are
So I need a little help here
Defense
Has been pretty good. They got a Pat Surtain pick recently that worked out great
They're probably looking for another home run like all-time great defensive player like that, is there some guy right now, Jeff,
that has like other worldly talent
that they think they could slot in there on defense
to try to compete in a very tough division?
Unless I think one of these defensive ends
that's available is like the next best defensive end,
I think it's probably an offensive player here
for the Broncos 20. Really? I think they's probably an offensive player here for the really 20.
I think that if you want to play for the Broncos, you patch it up.
Gabe, can I put you on a player here? Sure. I want to hear it.
All right. So he is a defense event played at an SEC school. All right.
One of the greatest testers in the history of the combine just
like lit up every single drill of freak athlete.
The only problem, the one downside, he never had more than one and a half sacks
in three years of college.
But he looks like if you watch him just walk around, you're like,
oh, that guy's a Hall of Famer.
But then you on yes, it hasn't worked out yet.
Do you think you can you can get the most out of him in Denver?
It was a compelling pitch, but I don't think I want that guy.
Who are you talking about?
Shamar Stewart, that's my story.
And yeah, I I'm wondering
if any team is going to be like, yeah, I want that guy.
I want the one and a half sacks of game guy.
Who knows? I think instead
my my front office is thinking about having to play Pat for a few more years.
And we're going with an edge rusher.
Give me the best available edge rusher.
You took one of those guys.
Give me, who we got?
Mike Green?
Mike Green.
Mike Green, give me Mike Green.
Okay, Mike Green.
I like the thought, Hank, though.
He just chucked another defensive end.
I don't mind.
I think Green's probably a better player than Stewart,
but I just gave shiny things I, you know, Gabe likes shiny things and
I like that.
And it's from my defensive lineman.
Yes, that's correct.
I thought you were about to say should I just stop the podcast and restart it over again?
Um, 20, uh, but Matthew, now you have the Steelers pick here at 21.
What do you got?
Wouldn't this be great if Shadr fell here?
Like this is just such a great fit.
I just look, everybody thinks that Aaron Rogers
is gonna go to the Steelers.
That it's a done deal.
They're just waiting on Rogers.
If you're Mike Tomlin and you finally have some questions
about whether you can keep your job,
whether you're as good as everyone says you are,
do you wanna go out
because Aaron Rogers was your quarterback?
Do you want to go out with him, embroiling the team in controversy every week, watching
him go on Pat McAfee?
If they really wanted Aaron Rodgers, I think that would be done already.
And I think they're hoping for something like this to happen.
So I think they will sprint up to the podium if this happens and take Shudder Sanders here.
I think it would be a really nice fit.
I think Dion would be very happy with this and look, I mean they don't have a quarterback like
on their roster that can play actually like what is their current plan? So I think it's either they
hope for should or maybe they take a swing on like a dart if you were to fall. But they have to leave
this draft this night of the draft with the quarterback or they're in serious trouble.
So they're very happy with this pick.
I think this is, if they're here at 21
and they have Shigeru Sanders on the board,
their draft is, their Joe Mandra said today,
we have four quarterbacks typically.
And right now they have two on the roster.
And as Matt said said those two guys
not great so I think this would absolutely be the pick Sanders here 21. Can I say one more thing on this Jeff? Before this podcast I was looking up Tyler Shoe or Shaw or whatever that guy's name is.
Tyler Shuck yeah. Yeah I mean I feel like they might have to do that if that's how it plays out
like they need a quarterback and I just I just don't see Tomlin risking his, you know,
his next year on Aaron Rodgers.
Do you guys?
I don't know.
If they, if they did get Sanders here,
does that stop them from signing Rogers?
I think so.
I think Rogers, I think right around now
is when Aaron Rodgers would, would retire
if that were to be the case.
I just don't, he's not going to Cleveland.
I just don't see it.
When are you guys producing this podcast?
It's not going to be announced one day.
Yes.
Game is turned corporate.
He's just too corporate now.
I've been recognized as one of the finest executives in this in this industry.
So like a little more respectfully respectfully can we move on?
22 bears now on the clock is they traded back a hang you have the bears pick at 22
What do you got? Yeah, a lot of the guys I was looking at came off the board
So I think I'm just gonna go I think the best player available
And also my yearly kiss ass with an organ player. So Derek Harmon, tell me about him.
Derek Harmon is fantastic.
I am surprised he made it to 22.
He is a 6'5", 315 pound David Tackle
who had over 50 pressures in one season in college,
which is hard to do.
He's gonna be a fantastic football player in the NFL and the Bears traded back with 22 and getting
Derek Harmon would be a win for them get more draft picks and I'm with a starting defense to tackle
Really good job. I like this. I like this pick. Um,
All right, I got the Packers here at 23. I think they would have loved if either
Baron or Johnson were here at 23. Maybe they go with Maxwell
Harrison from Kentucky to be a corner, but that feels maybe a tad early. So I don't think
Goldman's not been drafted yet, right Hank? Am I right on that? Not been drafted. So the Packers first wide receiver in the first round
in what, like a hundred years?
So Matthew Golden to the Packers here.
I think again, they would love to draft a corner,
but those corners are not there.
They go wide receiver.
On Golden, like he's so,
like I really loved this player at Texas this year.
They brought in Isaiah Bond from Bama
and they clearly wanted Bond to be the guy.
Like he's the top recruit, the twitchy athlete.
He probably paid him a bag in NIL, but Golden was just better like from the jump.
And then Bond, he messed up his ankle at some point during the year.
Golden started getting more and more touches.
So like you look at down the second half of the season, the guy that Quinn Ubers went
to when Gunnar Helm was covered really, but the guy he went to was Matthew Golden.
And I also like I whispered this last year with Adonai Mitchell and Worthy and I'll say
it a little louder now that yours isn't on the team anymore.
Part of the reason his production was a little lower Golden was quarterback play was like
inaccuracy on deep balls.
So I think Golden like he ran on the four twos.
He's going to be he's going to be a very good player, a super competitive guy, even if he's
not a superstar, built very, very very long career very productive player in the NFL
All right
Matthew Golden's got an airport. Um, I gave you the Vikings. I feel like this is a pick that you've you prepared for all day
24th of Vikings, what do you got? Yeah, no, you know, I actually did give this some thought so good
I suspect that throughout the broadcast a theme that will come up is the notion of
The Vikings may be moving JJ McCarthy or you know the talk of what the heck the Vikings are doing at the quarterback position
I feel like there's gonna be a narrative around that in the days before the draft. I
I
Can't really believe truly they're going into the sea after the season
they had, they're going into this season with him at quarterback.
So I think they're making calls and I think they're trying to trade around
and play with a better quarterback.
I really do.
Hmm. But ultimately, they're really close.
So I don't know enough about what they need on defense,
but I think they go with the best available
defensive player here.
And it's kind of a boring pick,
because they whole day was spent trying to figure out
if they could move around at quarterback.
So I need help.
Best defensive player on your board right now, Jeff is?
Best defensive player.
Emenwari? I. Evan Worry is here.
We took Harmon already.
Stewart is gone.
I mean, probably probably Stewart, defensive end or the kid from from Boston
College as well.
Matthew Azurico, who do you like out of these defensive guys?
I'm general.
I'm not looking to Boston College
for my difference makers in football.
So I'm gonna go with the other guy
and welcome to Minneapolis.
From A&M.
Okay, from A&M.
Alright, Shemar Stewart, I like it.
Yeah, theoretical.
Hey, fair enough.
But seriously, Jeff, what do we think,
what do we make of their quarterback situation?
I think they're gonna roll with McCarthy.
Why would they not?
He hasn't done anything to change. He didn't play last year
What why would you change your priors on him? You've never seen him play
I never thought he was gonna be a good NFL quarterback in the first place now. He missed a whole year
Well, but they did though, so they have to let him play to figure that out. I
Mean that makes a heck of a lot of sense
I think this is gonna be a serious fallback year for the Vikings and I don't know what their over-under is
Give me the under it's eight and a half which is give for the Vikings. And I don't know what their over under is. Give me the under.
I think it's eight and a half,
which is super low though.
Give me the under.
For a GM.
Oh, well, where do you have an under for the season?
You haven't got to that part of the podcast yet.
I like it.
Okay.
Well, Matt has a Texas of 25.
What do we got?
Yeah, I mean, there's some intriguing names
just sitting out there still.
Amari and Hamptonpton still sitting out there.
But for the Texans, the need is very clear.
We need badly an offensive lineman,
someone who could potentially replace Tunsel,
keep our quarterback off the ground.
So our options right now are either Booker or Simmons,
it looks like, Jeff, what do we think?
Connerly Jr. is what I would take.
Conroy?
It was me.
Yeah.
Is that the Oregon guy?
Yeah.
That's what I would do.
Surprising.
All right.
Well, we're going to listen to the offensive line expert
and take whoever you just said.
Conroy.
Josh Conroy.
Yeah.
OK.
Talk to me about him.
Ascending player, only 21 years old,
five star kid, played much better last season
at the end of the season.
I think he's just got a lot of upside and growth.
I think the Simmons is interesting here
because the injury and he was O-tackle one,
but I think there's some things behind the scenes
that might push him down a little bit.
I think Houston has to end this with a starter immediately.
And I think Connerly comes in right away and it's good for them.
That's my picture of Connerly sold.
Welcome to Houston.
OK, hey, you are next up here with the Rams.
What do we got?
I think I'm going to go with the safety here.
And I I think the Rams might actually be too smart of a team in real life
to to spend a first round pick on a safety, but I am not.
So I'm going to go with Malachi Starks out of Georgia.
I know Emin Worry, I think is how you say it.
It was like another Greek combine tester.
But I think I think Starks, he was a top recruit coming out of high school, awesome at Georgia.
I think he maybe the last year, I remember he
disappointed a little bit, but the Rams defense is a lot of really young, exciting talent. And I,
you know, got to believe in Sean McVeigh and the coaching staff there. I think if you get a guy
with the makeup like Starks into a room like that, you expect him to elevate the people around him.
I think it could be a good fit. No disrespect to Camp Kitchens.
It was awesome.
I mean, especially too with like,
with the Georgia players, the NFL,
they're just good.
I mean, they've just been good.
All right, the Baltimore Ravens at 27,
it's felt like this has been this way for a long time.
I have them taking Tyler Booker,
the offensive guard from Alabama.
He's a perfect Raven feels like.
And I know his testing numbers aren't great,
but I still think that Booker is going to be a fantastic prose.
Film is good.
Like, that's what matters in the end.
And so I have Booker here going to become a Baltimore Raven.
I got to be the guy in everybody's fantasy draft
who, like you can see the look on his face.
He's like, wait, is this guy still available?
And you know, he's had a couple drinks
and he doesn't really remember.
So I have to ask instead of making a fool of myself,
is Baron from Texas gone?
Yes.
All right.
You went six.
Yeah, like I said, I thought I was missing something there.
All right, so the Lions clearly want a defensive player, right?
The offense was all time.
I defense that.
Yes.
Yes.
And you need a defensive player.
We need a defensive player.
Uh, I don't have a specific position in mind, so I'm, I'm again, just summoning
your, uh, expertise here for best available or somebody that coach would like a dog.
I, I think, I think this is where, I mentioned earlier a Harrison the cornerback from from Kentucky goes. Thank you
I like that Maxwell Harrison cornerback from Kentucky. That's a good pick by me
Great job great job game tan cam will be very happy
Okay, this is the one pick I am prepared for the commander's 29th
This is interesting
situation here
Hank I'm pretty sure that Washington's gonna take an edge rusher here
There's a lot of guys on the board who maybe have fallen
You know, we mentioned the guy from Boston College
This is based a little bit on something I heard,
but also just a little bit of just intuition.
I think the kid from Arkansas, what's his name?
Landon Jackson.
So I think Washington's going really big
in terms of their defensive line size.
You look at this Javon Kinlaw signing that everyone hates.
He's huge. They sign everyone hates. He's huge.
They sign Eddie Goldman.
He's huge.
Doron Payne.
They let Jonathan Allen go,
maybe a little bit undersized for a defensive tackle.
Landon Jackson, 6'6", 264,
freak athlete, tested off the charts.
I think this is the kind of guy
that they're gonna look for
in that sort of like monster, mauler, edge rusher role.
So that's who I'm gonna take care of 29.
What do you guys think?
Wow, okay.
I like it.
I'm very fine with that.
I like it a lot.
I mean, he is, he's just a huge, enormous person.
So we'll see.
And his testing was,
and look, some teams, they just,
they go by the testing, right?
I'm actually curious what you could get on him
to be a first rounder.
I'm curious what I see on him.
That'd be interesting to see what the numbers are for him.
Just to. Yeah, just that kind of.
Plus 425. Yeah.
You're dealing with the Eagles offensive line.
You got to get some just monster people in there.
And that guy, he seems to fit the bill.
I'm I'm agreement.
All right. Are you sure it's it's Ed Russia here?
You don't think there's any other position there?
Like I know you and I had talked about Luther Burden versus egg buca for this pick.
Maybe a guard is it.
You really think I dressers the way they go?
I think they would try to trade down if this was the board.
Don't you?
Yeah, I mean, unless they really love one of these addressers, everyone would trade
down.
I think this is just harder.
Who's who's turning up though? Because the three quarterbacks are gone. I mean, maybe someone trades up
for a Marion Hampton or maybe I just don't see who's trading up right now. I wonder who
goes to this next slot actually. Well, Buffalo always trades down. I mean, they've handed
the Chiefs many draft picks. All right. 30. Hank, you have the bills.
Yeah, this is another tough one.
I'd like trading with the chiefs
and letting the chiefs take their,
whoever the next pro bowler out of this draft is gonna be.
I think that would probably be their first pick.
After that, I think it's corner,
but there isn't one right now
that I like a lot on the board.
And so I think we're also going back
to the to the edge rusher bucket.
I will say, though, with this draft,
but with my prep, which has just been listening to podcasts,
I've been thinking more impressed with defensive tackles,
the interior rushers than the edge rushers.
And so I think maybe the bills have a bigger need on the edge.
But with the Eagles winning the bigger need on the edge.
But with the Eagles winning the Super Bowl with the blueprint they just did, which is
being so physical and nasty up the middle, I think they could maybe talk themselves into
a defensive tackle.
And and Kenneth Grant is is just sitting there.
And I think a lot of people expected him to go in the 20s.
So the bill is getting him at 30
It feels like a good pick to them Jeff. What do you think?
Is that could they make that work with their with their scheme? That's how I was gonna pick for the Chiefs at 31
So I I think this is a very smart pick for them
They need defensive help up the middle
He's a PDR much the passer well, but he'll but he'll stop he'll stop the run like that's what that's what he'll do So I think that's a, he never runs a passer well, but he'll, but he'll stop, he'll stop the run. Like that's what, that's what he'll do.
So I think that's a smart pick for you.
You know, most people have them locked into the Chargers at 22.
If he makes it to 30, that's a, it's good for, for Buffalo.
So now my Chiefs man, geez, all the players I wanted for the Chiefs are gone.
I didn't want off its alignment.
I think just like everyone else, they're going to, they're going to want out.
I would have loved an interior defense attack.
Grant would have been the guy I took here.
Can you just get over your anti-running back bias?
Like I think if Hampton is here,
they definitely would do it.
I might have been getting there eventually.
Cause I don't think they're drafting
offensive linemen here.
They've spent too much time drafting off its alignment.
They have to discuss, have to play.
The other question is, will they take the safety from South Carolina, who would be like
a huge value for them right now at 31?
That's what I think they would do over the running back, right?
You can draft a running back later.
Amanda Worry, you can't, you're not drafting him.
That's a great value.
And most people have him like in the big boards
at 10 to 15.
I think they go that direction, Matt, right?
That would make more sense, right?
They need a safety.
What about taking a running back?
Yeah.
Amanda Worry, can he go play down in the box, too, which like for for spags is a guy
who can be close to the line of scrimmage, can tackle, can blitz.
Yeah, I'll tell you what.
They don't they don't like need a safety though.
They need a running back, though.
What about Luther Bird in here?
No, I don't.
I don't. I think that's too early for him.
Dumb. I'm curious.
I didn't say I was very nice about it.
I see we have safeties.
Should I just draft Hampton?
Should I just do it, Matt?
I mean, I think everyone would love it.
What could go wrong if the Chiefs draft
are running back 31st, right?
Well, last one was 32 though, by the way.
That one, that one.
You know what? Fine, I'll just have fun with it we'll take Hampton we'll do it
You'd be cat he'd be unbelievable there. I think I
Think what?
That is fun
All right, dude. Take us home
You know, I'd love to provide some fireworks for you right now guys
This is probably like the most complete
Best roster in recent memory, right? I mean they have every single position figured out
Yeah, they seem like they know how to manage their cap. They've
players like in every position I
Looked while you guys were talking about a bunch of guys
I was looking up like kickers and punters and anything funny
I could think of
The most interesting idea I came up with is probably somebody they'll take in a later round the tight end at Utah
Who might turn into a fullback in the NFL Jeff? You know I'm talking about Brent Cuth or something
Brick you think yes. Yeah. Yeah, we're not gonna reach for him. That'd be ridiculous
So I think the answer is whoever the Tyler Lindenbaum
of this draft is.
There will never be another.
There won't be, but some giant fat guy
who's good at the tush push until they ban it.
Give me that guy, just more depth at line.
Let's go nine wide if we can.
Those guys are all gone.
If this happens that they're taking the kid.
I just mentioned from South Carolina, the safety.
If this happens, the way it does, they're taking what they're taking.
I've got a I've had some of the deals with their pick.
I'm uncomfortable with the nickname their safety has.
I'm not going to say it on air, but they just got a safety.
Well, no, they were they they they they shuffled some of those
guys out and for agency Jeff or Gabe.
Sorry.
I have a pitch for you.
The exciting he's shuffled out.
But the exciting was still there.
I keep dropping my phone.
You drop your phone.
I don't want to take a safety.
I want to take a big fat lineman.
Okay, so there's this there's no one here.
I mean, Josh Simmons is the only one available.
You're not going to draft him.
How much does he weigh?
This dude, Jonah Sevina, is 324.
That sounds great for I can't let you do that.
They're going to draft.
Jeff, what do they need?
They're a perfect safety roster.
What they need is a head coach.
And there's a team, there's a head coach out west
who seems to be running out of leash
in his current situation.
Their number one need is safety.
What about Kyle Shanahan for the 30 second overall pick?
Is that fair?
Oh, geez.
Okay.
I like where this is going.
That's a great team.
I have to get my kids to their sporting events.
So we can't we can't do this forever.
I'm an executive decision.
We're drafting the safety of South Carolina.
That's who the Eagles are getting.
I'm David.
We're also need to get earmarking Brent Keefe for later.
That would be that is something we could very much do.
Gabe understand this only because he's in the middle of this.
I have like one kid has a game at 530 today.
My daughter is got moved up to play her first game at 10 you
softball today, but it's like 35 minutes away.
I can't be there.
So if you like both kids ready to go.
One's going here, one's going there.
But I got access to Game Changer
for the other team my daughter's playing tonight.
So I can watch the video on their team's feed of the game.
So yeah, welcome to life with Little League.
Jeff, not doing this weekly with you
has robbed me of the opportunity
to talk about Game Changer and what I think it says about us as a society. So let's offline
about that. But this was fun drafting with all of you guys. Oh, you're out on Game Changer.
I'm going to take my opinion to Game Changer offline. I'm taking a lot of things offline
today, Jeff. We need to. Yeah. Hey, hopefully that conversation we had pre-line is not out there.
All right, guys, Matt and Dave are gonna fire me.
All right, have a good week, everyone.
Enjoy the draft.
We back next week, Matt.
We back next week, Matt?
We are? Sure.
Yes? See you then.
Okay, great.
We're back next week, everyone.
Take care. Great! We're back next week everyone, take care!
