It's Tuesday, April 27th, and welcome to our NFL Mock Draft Bonanza.
Gabe, Matt, Producer Nick, and myself are all here to make our selections.
It is our favorite show of the year.
The draft order has been selected.
Trades have been discussed.
We're ready to have some fun.
I'm Jeff Schwartz, and this is Jeff Schwartz of SmartU.
This is the most fun podcast we do the entire season.
The draft is coming up very shortly on Thursday.
I cannot wait because the draft takes are just flying out there and some of them are very bad and we'll correct
those today for you guys the draft order was done at random like i said we've discussed trades the
compensation will not have to be discussed we're just gonna say hey we have a trade yes or no
let's do it we'll go through all our favorite prospects uh gentlemen i guess not all at once
um gabe how are you doing, buddy?
It's been a while.
Thank you.
I'm doing very well.
Draft is not a time of year as a Jets fan that brings me great relief.
It makes me anxious.
It makes me unhappy for the future where I'm going to look back at this week and say,
what the hell were we thinking?
It gives me agita.
So I want to say that I'm good.
I'm great.
I'm happy to see you all'm good i'm great i'm
happy to see you all but i'm getting nervous already uh the life of a jets fan is never fun
the life of a washington football fan matt ford i don't know if it's any fun either um weird spot
for washington to be in this year kind of good team last year but maybe not i don't know how
do you feel feeling great jeff we've got our quarterback of the future and ryan fitzpatrick
already locked and loaded in our mock draft there was a trade proposal that involved ryan's fitzpatrick as part
of draft compensation to which i say no deal ryan fitzpatrick is the franchise we're ready to go
number 19 can't wait when washington trades up to like nine for trey lance are you gonna be upset
about that i don't think i would be upset about trerey Lance but we'll get to Trey Lance we will get to all these and we're gonna start off with Nick you have Jacksonville
you have the easiest pick of the draft I think I mean I don't know how it's gonna go but you're on
the clock with the Jacksonville Jaguars desperately needing a quarterback at number one I was waiting
to see if I was gonna get introduced as Nick or producer Nick um I'm glad I've lost the moniker
uh I'll just take Nick but all three you guys are technically producers so I it Nick. I'm glad I've lost the moniker. I'll just take Nick.
But all three of you guys are technically producers. So I'm not going to say producer
for everybody. I was just waiting to see what you were going to go with. The first pick isn't
really a fun one. I think we all know what I'm going to do. I don't think I'm going to be the
guy to mix this up that early. Let's lock it in. I'm going with the Jaguars at one,
taking Trevor Lawrence. I don't think there's much conversation needed.
We all know what's going to happen.
What's pretty incredible about Trevor Lawrence
is that he's been this guy for three years now,
and he's navigated it great.
There's been no off-the-field issues, even no on-the-field issues.
He's navigated the pressure of his job now
better than a lot of guys in this position I don't know if Irvin
Meyer is going to be a good coach but I think Trevor Lawrence will be a good player in the NFL
so Jacksonville good job now can I have a favorite pick at number two already Gabe is going to do the
Jets because of course he is and this is where things could get wonky because there's lots of
talks about Zach Wilson going, go number two,
but as a jets fan,
I've talked to a couple of them.
It doesn't feel like you actually want Zach Wilson.
He of the punchable face,
Zach Wilson.
No,
listen,
I tried hard. I went to real sources,
credible people who've worked in the jets organization.
And I've tried to find some bit of reality to lean on to not just take Zach Wilson here. I've looked for some shred of
evidence that the Jets would consider either going away from quarterback or trading out of this pick.
So I would love to come on here and announce a trade right now to go get someone better than
who we're going to take but instead i'll do what
all conventional wisdom suggests the jets will take zach wilson out of byu and in two maybe three
years we'll be right back here with the number two pick drafting some other guy who had one good
season sort of in college once yeah i feel the same way about him man i'm sorry i just don't i don't know i don't see it
i think you'll be i i don't it's not there there's nothing to see that we did this we did this with
mark sanchez we did this with sam darnold they played at usc this guy is playing at byu no knock
byu i realize you've been a better program than USC in the last couple of years, but okay. He threw that one pass in a pro day that wasn't even that cool. Like what are, what's happening? Why did this happen?
The competition went way down last year, and he got a lot better,
which I guess it's better than being really bad.
But when you look at the highlights of him playing,
his best throws are all these off-script, off-platform throws.
That's not how you win in the NFL.
You win by making throws from the pocket. You win from throwing the ball well against pressure.
I saw something, too, that he had no interceptable passes
against pressure this year, which means he doesn't take chances,
which kind of does worry me.
It's okay to throw picks sometimes.
It's okay.
They're not like the worst thing in the world.
So Zach Wilson is going to the Jets.
You should draft Panay Sewell, but you haven't.
Of course we should.
Of course.
But I can't blow this whole stupid mock draft up right now and trade out of it.
I spoke to someone.
I asked that question.
This guy drafted the players that made the jets the best
they've ever been i said why not i brought up a stat mike greenberg came up with which is that
offensive linemen taken in the first round get to a second contract 60 of the time
linemen work jeff i don't need to tell you this linemen are safe bets linemen keep average to
good quarterbacks and make them great they keep
them healthy you don't need zach wilson to get smashed 800 times this year to have no new contract
it's a complete waste but whatever let's do it anyway let's go let's go another decade of
irrelevance i'm looking forward to you picking the patriots pick later matt you're on the clock
at number three with the niners before we we get to the Niners, very quickly,
what is Kyle Shanahan?
Stop talking.
Kyle Shanahan yesterday, quote,
after going through the process,
I feel good about five guys at three.
What are you talking about?
Did you trade up with five guys?
Have you traded up with one guy in mind?
Why are you undermining yourself
publicly about the player you're going to pick? I don't understand what they're doing. He also said
that when asked if they can guarantee Jimmy G will be on the roster, he said, I can't guarantee
that anyone in the world will be alive on Sunday. So we have some grim Kyle Shannon coming as well.
With that, Matt Ford, you are on the clock and you have the Niners pick.
Yeah, this is the first interesting one of this whole draft, so I'm glad to have it.
There are a few overarching things with the 49ers that I think explain what they have to do here.
Number one is Jimmy Garoppolo is still on the team, right?
So if somebody wanted Jimmy Garoppolo, they would have traded it already.
They're not going to get the big haul for him now that they would probably need in order to move a starting quarterback this late in the game. So I think they kind of missed the
boat there. I also think the 49ers think that they can win the Super Bowl this year. I think they
look at last year's team and they go, you know what? We were so injured. It was a weird season.
We're close. So it doesn't make sense to me to start a rookie quarterback with a roster that's that full of veteran stars.
And the other thing is the last time the Niners picked at number three was 2017.
They had no quarterback that year.
And you all remember this.
They took Solomon Thomas and passed on Mahomes and Deshaun Watson.
So I think that's lingering in John Lynch's head.
And so they're going to swing for the fences.
So I think they're taking Trey Lance here. And so they're going to swing for the fences. So I think they're taking Trey Lance here.
I think they're going to take Trey Lance.
They're going to keep him on the bench behind Jimmy Garoppolo for a season
and then hope to do the Chiefs Alex Smith Mahomes thing where they think,
hey, we're still pretty good this year.
But next year, look at this guy that's going to learn from an established vet.
I think it's Trey Lance.
I like where your head's going. I just don't think it's mac jones i made my this point many times that i can't imagine i'm turning up for mac jones
when we talk about this draft pick we have to talk about the value of what it is this year
and the next two years right they gave up three first round draft picks for mac jones right so is he
good enough for three first round draft picks i say no i i will say something that the way they're
talking this week makes me think something happened behind the scenes that made them out
on mac jones we might find out later because it doesn't make sense to see them publicly and again
privately they've been telling people nothing
because they don't tell anyone anything.
But people have rumored it's Mac Jones.
To publicly come out and say, oh, we like all five guys.
Or Schefter saying, hey, well, it was Mac Jones.
Now it's Trey Lance.
Now it's both.
They're flipping back and forth.
They traded up knowing who it is.
And I think it probably was Mac Jones and their mind changed for some reason,
which, again, is not good.
It's not how you build a team.
You don't build a team by training up
and then flip-flopping on quarterbacks,
but they might flip-flop into the right one.
All right, so I'm up now.
I have Atlanta.
So I was of the opinion for a couple months now
that someone would trade to four
if Mac Jones was taken at three
for either Fields or Lance.
With Lance gone now, and you look at the way the draft is setting up,
I don't think anyone has to trade up to four to get Justin Fields
because with the Bengals at five and the Dolphins at six
are not taking quarterbacks.
So the sooner someone would trade would be seven or eight
to get a quarterback.
So I will pick in this spot for the Falcons here
because no one's trading for Mac Jones at this point.
I will take Kyle Pitts, the tight end from Atlanta.
He is the best player on the board at the moment.
I think in Arthur Smith's offense, he could be dynamic.
They had Matt Ryan under contract.
You take the best player at a position that is unguardable in the NFL.
If you're elite, give me Kyle Pitts from Florida.
What do you think about that report that the Falcons might trade Julio Jones?
Did you hear that one?
I did.
I mean, he's due a lot of money.
And this would make sense, by the way, too, because if they keep Matt Ryan, they owe him a lot of money, right?
So you kind of clear some of that cap space out for the next couple of years without Julio there.
And they could get this on the wide receiver in the second round.
But I think that this is Kyle Pitts all the way here,
and there could be a trade later in this top 10
if someone like New England or Washington or Chicago
wants to come up and get themselves Justin Fields.
I think, and this will give away a little bit about where I'll be
in a few picks, several picks.
But I think if the scenario is what we just went through, and Atlanta's sitting there and nobody thinks that they really want to be in this spot, I actually think New England goes up and gets Pitts.
Because I think...
New England does. Yeah, I think New England does. And they go get the tight end hybrid guy and remake that team and win six more Super Bowls. And we all have to go cry ourselves to sleep every Monday.
Wow. Didn't New England sign two or three tight ends already this offseason?
It doesn't matter. There's no limit to the number of tight ends that that guy wants on his...
Well, they're definitely the first person
to throw that out there.
So that would be remarkable if they did.
A couple of things would break the internet.
One is Fields going two, I think.
And there's some talk that the Niners
are basically saying all these things
because they really want Fields
and hope the Jets don't take them at two
if it leaks out that they like him.
And the Niners taking pits at three
would just destroy everyone.
I mean, there's a chance that...
I've been told that an NFL team in their division
thinks the Niners are taking pits at three.
Yeah, I believe it.
Kittle at pits?
I watched very little college
football this year. I saw him play, and
I was like, that's insane, what
that guy is and what he can do. And the way
the NFL works now,
if you got a guy like that,
that's huge. The whole
game is designed for guys like that.
And with him and Kittle, it could be
incredible.
All right, we got to
move this along. We still have 28 be incredible. All right, we got to move this along.
We still have 28 picks left.
All right, Nick, you are on the clock with the Bengals.
And I'm curious where you go here.
I think they're doing one thing only, but I'm curious how you would mock them here.
I think they're doing one thing only.
I think they're going to get the guy that's going to protect their quarterback of the future.
I thought this was supposed to be a podcast where
we respected line play.
I can't believe
that Panay Sewell dropped to me.
I thought for sure you were taking him off
the board at four.
I think the Bengals are drafting Jamar Chase
here at five. I'll put
down your selection of Sewell. I think this
is the right decision to do.
You can never have enough great linemen.
They need a right guard for sure,
but the right tackle, they signed Riley Reeve to a one-year deal.
Bengals fans are acting like he's the savior for them,
which I just don't get it, Bengals fans.
So I'm on board here.
Sewell, number five to the Bengals as the best offensive lineman off.
And now the Dolphins at six have an interesting
decision to make. And this is where we could get things pretty interesting for Gabe here at six.
Yeah. Now I think it does get confusing because I think if Sewell was on the board,
the cooler heads would prevail in Miami and they would just take him. They're betting on their
quarterback. They'd get a guy who could block. And that would be that but if he comes off the board then i think they have to go get a weapon or they think they have to go
get a weapon and the only complicated part here is do you go get the player who people rate higher
in jamar chase or do you get one of these guys who at least theoretically your quarterback has
some sort of a connection with in davante smith oralen Waddell. So I don't actually really have any idea how to break those ties.
I think I'll probably just say that they go with the highest rated guy
and they take Jamar Chase here at six.
I'm with you.
If he's on the board, they're 100% taking him.
Unless someone trades up for a quarterback in this spot
and the Dolphins have been willing to move back down I mean you know if Denver says hey we need to go get ourselves
a quarterback right now they trade to six Dolphins go down to nine and they can take one of the
Alabama wide receivers at nine and rack up some more draft picks so I think definitely they're
going offensive player wide receiver here um it's just a matter of when they take him if they're
offered with a trade but I love it Chase too will be very happy about this they spent number three picks last year on offense
alignment first round second round fourth round so this is a good selection here chase to the
dolphins all right matt you're on the board with the lions well it's also interesting i wouldn't
necessarily take to his favorite target if we're not sure two is going to be the quarterback there for too many more years. But that's besides the point. The seventh pick. This is open season at this point. If you're the Lions, you're probably, you know, hoping that Sewell Falls maybe or maybe pits and it's a no brainer. But right now you've got Mac Jones and you've got Justin Fields out fields out there and you have a team that's just complete and utter dog shit so i'm taking phone calls is anybody out there
want to make a trade up to number seven i'm looking at you mr belichick maybe you mr elway
uh anybody out there mr rivera anybody steelers who's moving up gabe has the patriots pick what
do you think are you moving up gabe no we Patriots pick. What do you think? Are you moving up, Gabe?
No, we're not because we think we're smarter than everyone.
And even if like the fifth best quarterback on the board right now is available, we're going to turn him into a Hall of Famer.
So we're not moving.
I actually think Matt at this spot, they are open for business.
I think if it was a team to trade up, it would be New England up to this spot.
The Bears can't give up any more draft picks for quarterback.
They just can't do it.
I feel like Ron Rivera wouldn't do it either in Washington.
And if you're Denver here,
you're just sitting pretty because the Panthers probably aren't taking a
guide.
And there is talk that Justin Fields could go to the Panthers and there is
possibility that they take a quarterback as well.
So we'll so we'll
stay put with the lions here because i don't think there's a great trade a great trade partner here
yeah um well who you can take him with a seventh pick then i agree and i think they end up with a
pretty good consolation prize and that's uh davante smith um the lions current wide receiver room is
tyrell williams brashad perman, and Quintez Cephas,
which might be the most troubling list of names I've ever heard.
Jared Goff, they couldn't really draft a quarterback because they have Goff for two more years.
They can't get out of that deal until 23.
So you might as well see if you've got anything with them.
Take Devontae Smith.
That guy will improve your team right away.
The Lions take a wide receiver.
Stop me if you've heard that one before.
I think you're right away. The Lions take a wide receiver. Stop me if you've heard that one before. I think you're right here. At this spot, if they're here at seven, I think this is the
position they would go, especially with Panay Sewell off the board. And now things get really
interesting. There's a lot of talk about the Panthers taking a quarterback here.
And they just signed Darnold to basically a two-year contract.
They picked up his option for next year.
I don't see them doing that.
I think they go with Sean Slater here off at the tackle at Northwestern
and give Sam Darnold all the opportunities to be the, but to be the best player he can be.
Sam Darnold here is going with,
excuse me,
the Panthers going with the offensive lineman,
Rashawn Slater.
Do you think he's a guard or a tackle?
There's people saying both.
So everyone's asking me this.
It's a great question.
I think he's 100% a tackle in the NFL.
If you watch the way he plays and the style he plays with,
he does a lot of,
just the way his hands are usage and his hips.
I don't think Garly Pinesul can actually play guard.
And guess what?
This will all be covered in my draft special on FS1.
For all those who are listening, it is tonight, Tuesday.
And we might run Wednesday, Thursday, too.
It will live on YouTube as well, foxwords.com,
Big Boys Club Draft Academy with Jeff Schwartz.
He is on there.
So is Rashawn Slater, Trey Smith, Creed Humphries, Quinn Miners, who you will love. as well foxports.com big boys club draft academy with jeff schwartz he is on there so is rashaun
slater trey smith creed humphries quinn minors who you will love we had on this podcast as well so
um i will go with rashaun slater here that puts uh nick on the clock at at nine and nixon have
to choose another quarterback i think i think so i think i'm looking at the board i don't think
another quarterback goes probably until 15.
So I almost feel like it's my responsibility to make sure that the Patriots don't get their hands on Justin Fields.
I think it's time he comes off the board. I think it's absurd. There were nine picks in.
We haven't taken any defensive players yet. So I almost wanted to be the first guy to do it.
But I think it's going to have to be Justin Fields.
I can't see him playing for Bill Belichick,
becoming the next best quarterback for 15 years.
I think you're right here that Denver's taking a quarterback in my opinion,
and they would be delighted if Lancer Fields felt them right.
Right guys. I feel like that this is, they're going, I mean, Matt,
what do you think they're going quarterback here for sure.
You know, I just felt like, I feel like this this is they're going I mean Matt what do you think they're going quarterback here for sure I you know I just felt like I feel like this can't happen like this draft makes too
much sense there's gonna be some weird team like like if the Lions end up trading out of that
seventh pick like it might be the Saints or the Steelers like it might just be some weirdo team
that comes in and takes fields I just feel like there's no way he makes it to nine even though
everything that's happened here makes total sense to me.
I mean,
I,
the question is like,
if someone trades up,
I think Miami and Detroit would be all willing to move out,
right?
Of six and seven,
but who's going to give up the assets to do so is the question.
Cause again,
the bears,
are they going to let,
are they going to let Ryan pace give up a bunch of assets for the future when he's on a one-year contract?
Yeah, again.
Is Ron Rivera doing that?
I'm saying it in my Ron Rivera style.
I mean, look, to Game's point, Belichick has the most assets to trade up.
I don't see Pittsburgh doing it either.
Like, I don't see them.
I mean, they need a quarterback.
Don't get me wrong.
But that's not really their style either, right?
They're not trading up 12 spots for a quarterback.
Yeah. Well, this would be a great spot for fields i mean that denver offense people forget
it's it's really fun three really good receivers judy hemler and uh sutton so that'd be a nice spot
for fields it would be a good spot for him uh and john elway is no longer like making decisions so
he can't ruin it all right gabe you're at 10 you You have the Cowboys. Don't do something stupid, please. Don't be Jerry Jones.
Well, I, you know, I took a few notes heading into this.
And when I saw my name linked to the Cowboys at 10,
all I wrote was something totally illogical,
like another wide receiver.
And here we are.
So I just don't think that they can help themselves.
In most people's mock drafts by now.
They would be like, oh man, Jalen Waddle, best receiver on the best team. People have heard of
him, you know, I don't know. And they would just go for it. They would just take it. And then
somebody would be like, but we have CD and we, we we don't we owe the other guy money and i mean what's going on with the rest of our defense like but it wouldn't
matter i think jaylen waddle would come off the board here this to me feels like the tipping point
where the mock drafts become easy to mock because i don't know how this would really happen but
i feel like they would have no choice if it did um i'm not going to executive overrule you because this is
your pick i think there is zero chance they pick another wide receiver i think they take the certain
kid out of out of they've actually been drafting a lot better lately with jerry jones not being in
control but it's hey it's your pick so waddle it is to the uh i love that pick so much uh i don't think it's unreasonable, man.
I don't think it's unreasonable,
but I also think that they've changed how they draft.
Here's what smarter people,
I'll tell you to take it sort of seriously,
what smarter people have been saying,
including some of your guys at PFF,
I know you love them.
I think if this played out more or less as it has,
and we're sitting in a situation
where all the quarterbacks except Mac Jones are gone.
And the Cowboys are sitting there with a great skill player in Waddell
or a potential quarterback who a lot of people like in Jones
that they maybe actually trade out of this spot
and pick up two later first-round picks
and make some improvements to their roster that they actually need.
But that's too confusing for me to try to sort out.
So we just went with Jalen Watt.
Oh, I'm with you here.
I think that they would love to trade out.
And, you know, they need help at corner.
They need help at linebacker.
Now Sean Lee's done.
I mean, they need a lot of help at a lot of places.
All right, Matt, pick 11.
The New York Giants, your division rival.
Where are you going here?
Well, this is another one where I have to see if I can reach Bill Belichick
and say, hey, man, Mac Jones, classic patriot, not a great athlete,
super smart, speaks Chinese.
What do you think?
You want to move up?
Come on, New England.
How about you, Ron Rivera?
Anybody want to jump up for Mac Jones here?
Gettleman has never traded down a single time in the draft um i don't see it happening here so you're up here uh giants are going to get better somewhere and i feel like there's one
position that uh they'd love to draft here yeah well it's funny i mean i thought they were gonna
i thought that rashaun slater was going to be here so i thought that that was where they were gonna go um i also think that
would be very david gettleman to just grab the best offensive lineman available considering that
they graded out at 31 in pff's ol rankings last year so you know what i'm gonna do it jeff is this
uh elijah vera tucker the right guy here? He is the right guy.
Fight on.
He would be the next best.
And a kid out of USC.
He could play guard for them, right guard right away.
I will say the Giants' offensive line has pieces to be good.
They don't mean offensive linemen here, but they're in a weird spot.
If this plays out like this, Sertan, I think,
would be the guy they would choose
to play cornerback or
person to play linebacker.
But Vera Tucker does make them better. He's a
day one starter, and the Vikings
are going to be pissed that he's gone.
But I like this pick right here. So we'll go with Vera Tucker,
the lineman out of USC.
So the Eagles now
on the board at 12, and
I get to choose as the Eagles draft guy. The best defensive player, the best guy on the board, the highest now on the board at 12 and I get to choose as the Eagles draft guy the best
defensive player the best guy on the board the highest guy on the board Patrick Sertan from
Alabama the cornerback easy pick for the Eagles and they rush up and turn this card in I think
they're super excited about adding a corner to to their team uh easy pick for me Patrick Sertan
out of Alabama it's a nice pick for them, Patrick Sertan out of Alabama.
It's a nice pick for them.
They kind of need everything on defense.
So that feels like if this were to actually fall this way,
that that would be a very logical pick for them.
I think they would absolutely love it.
All right, Nick, you're up with the Chargers.
They have a specific need
and there's a specific player I think
they would take right here.
Really, it's
the only guy that the mock drafts i think will get after number two will get exactly right i'm
looking at multiple mock drafts are you thinking micah parsons because i think that's where i'm
going i think that they can use linebacker they have a great pass rush it was it was between them
and certain or him and certain and you took them off the board so
i think i'm going with linebacker what were you thinking i was thinking uh christian darasol the
offensive tackle at virginia tech they have a clear need at that left tackle position
overruled fair enough i i would change my pick i was looking at the once the top three
ranked offensive linemen
were off the board, I figured I might as well mix it up.
I'm going to stick with it.
We're going to go with Michael Parsons.
Unlike Gabe, I was going to almost overrule you,
but I will not for fun of the podcast.
I think there's a thousand percent chance that Jeff would love tackle here
if Christian D'Arestal is available.
But we'll do it.
We'll go Parsons linebacker for the Chargers.
It would be very Chargers to just take someone they don't
even need either so um all right parsons it is let's go to gabe uh no who's up next yes it's me
it's it's matt it's the vikings yeah oh yeah good news for them that dillashaw slid uh they're
gonna take him here uh didn't they're you mentioned riley rife at the top of the show he's gone tough offensive line last
year Dillashaw didn't allow a single sack according to PFF last year so that seems like a good one to
me but what do you think Jeff I like this pick offensive lineman is where they're going to is
where they want to go here they need just need I think just need to keep building up the offensive line so I'm all for this
add
Darius on the list and now we get
to and Gabe you just got stuck
with some of my favorite picks
of this draft you had your
Jets and you have the Patriots
and let it rip buddy
yeah this was great because I
had no time to prep for any of this
so I got the Jets and the Patriots which which are easy for me to BS about the dolphins,
which everyone has been talking about and the Cowboys where I could just make
it up and not be wrong.
All right.
So this is the nightmare scenario.
We were all afraid of Mac Jones is still there,
whether he should be or not.
He's still sitting there.
Everyone thinks the Patriots would want him for the reasons you said earlier.
So it would be easy for me to just go ahead and do that.
But that's Bill Belichick never does the easy thing.
So I think he knows something now and he knows like his guy has fallen and he can get creative and he can go get him some other way or who knows.
I mean, they wouldn't just settle for the best quarterback
available because they think it's right so i i think i i have to throw the curveball and i'm
gonna go with uh the kid horn from south carolina the the cornerback get him a great defensive player
who comps nicely to players he's liked in the past that's our pick mac Jones, see you in the fourth round, I guess. I love this pick.
This is very Bill Belichick-esque, right?
Hey, you know what?
We'll stick with Cam Noon.
It's okay.
Let's draft the best defensive player on the board.
JC Horn does match up really well to what they've done in the past
at that position.
Look at this spicy mock draft here.
Mac Jones in a complete free-for-all right now.
I believe I'm up right now.
Let's see here.
I have the Cardinals here.
The Cardinals are 100% not drafting a quarterback.
And you just took the next best corner,
which is someone that I wanted here.
I think I'm going to stick with corner here.
Let me see here.
Yeah, it feels like corner is that probably the next
i think corner is more important than linebacker i'll take the corner out of northwestern greg
newsome the second two i'll be quite honest with you i've watched zero seconds of greg newsome play
but people have him ranked very high and i will take him for the Cardinals. Nick at 17.
This is where the draft could be kind of fun.
Nick, you're up, buddy.
I think I'm sticking linebacker for the Raiders and taking the kid out of Notre Dame.
Jeremiah, I don't even know if I want to give his last name a try.
Matt, you know it?
Owusu Koromoa?
There you go. Yeah, I was thinking about taking him at 19 so go ahead Nick yeah I'm happy to get him off the board I think the Raiders could
use a big name linebacker I don't think they've had anyone that I know all that well since Khalil
Mack so I think this is a great name for them at a good spot i like it i like it all right we're moving this moving this
along here uh pick 18 here i gotta uh all right gabe you have uh you have the fins yeah so we know
the dolphins are comfortable moving their picks around they've been doing a lot of that uh i i
think for fun since they're they seem like a pretty well-run organization these days, and they can already play some defense,
they pleased their quarterback and made the moves they want to do with offense.
If there were some obvious linemen to take here,
I think that's probably what they do.
But instead, I think somebody's just going to have to go with me on this.
Let's go ahead and say the Bears.
We're going to make a trade with the Bears.
The Bears are seeing a quarterback available and are eager.
The Dolphins don't need this pick necessarily.
So Bears and Dolphins switch 18 and 20,
which means, Jeff, you're on the clock with the Bears.
Well, if I'm trading up for a quarterback,
I'm trading up for Mac Jones. Yeah, he kind of boxed you. Mac Jones, Jeff, you're on the clock with the Bears. Well, if I'm trading up for a quarterback, I'm trading up for Mac Jones.
Yeah, he kind of boxed you in.
Mac Jones, welcome, welcome.
And I believe his first name is McCorkle, by the way.
McCorkle Jones, welcome to Chicago,
where you're not going to win it all,
but welcome to Chicago.
You have Andy Dalton, the red pistol rifle.
What does Colin call the game? The red red pistol rifle what what is colin colin game the red but the red water
pistol whatever it is and uh and mac jones living the dream all right chicago with mac joe this is
gonna really fire up i might just send this to big cat and be like yep how do you feel about mac
jones to uh to the bears um all right so all right all right so gabe chose so this was my pick i guess okay so
now 19 matt has the what why are they gonna choose a team name this year matt or what
i don't think so i don't think they're ever gonna change it better be the first
than uh you know pick some dumb name like the red wolves or something like that
uh i will say this was, thank you for making that trade
because it made my decision much easier.
I don't think Mac Jones would have made it past 19.
So I actually think that would have been a smart move
for the Dolphins and Bears to do there.
So with that gone,
I think Washington,
you know, the linebacker from Notre Dame
would have made some sense.
I think they probably are going to try to get Fitzpatrick some weapons here.
So I'm going to maybe reach a little and go with Rashad Bateman,
the 4'4", 40 guy from Minnesota.
He's a little bit taller.
They already have – Kadarius Toney is the other wide receiver
who would be maybe the pick here,
but he's a slot guy and they already kind of have
two slottish guys in McLaurin and
Curtis Samuel. So I think they're going
to take the 2019 Big Ten receiver
of the year. Bucky Brooks called
him the most complete receiver in the draft.
What do you think, Jeff?
I love it. Get more picks. I could see
Ron looking at the board and seeing that
there is an edge defender, which I don't even need.
So we because we have not drafted defensive end this entire time.
We have not done one quite yet. Feels like the spot where they could they could they could grab one here.
But I will say good. Good for good for the Washington football team.
Now, Gabe, you're on the clock at 20 after the trade with the Dolphins.
Yeah, well, so we knew we could move back a little bit.
We weren't worried about Washington taking our guy.
And so we're going to go ahead and strengthen our pass rush.
And we're going to go with, I don't know who they'd really take here,
but I'll go ahead and say Christian Barmore from Alabama.
The defensive tackle out of Alabama.
I like it. Maybeives himself a pass.
Maybe the only defensive tackle taken in the
first round, by the way. Not a big
tackle class.
One of the lean years for defensive tackle. I like
it. More pass rushers. Never have
enough of them.
And yeah, the Dolphins have a lot of options here. They go edge rusher,
pass rusher, many different ways.
All right, Nick, you are up at 21.
You passed on an offensive lineman the last time a team needed one.
Curious how you're going to go here.
I'm not at all swinging you in one direction as well.
Oh, perfect, because I wasn't planning on going O-line at all.
Okay.
In fact, we've all seen how well Carson Wentz plays
with an Alabama quarterback behind him.
So I was really hoping that we could get Mac Jones.
It seems like a perfect spot for him
to land um but now now that you guys have messed that up i think i'll take uh the speedy wide
receiver uh i'll take the darius tony out of florida oh okay i'll give i'll give carson
wentz some weapons instead of giving him Mac Jones. I like it. Okay.
I like that pick.
Give him another burner since Hilton's kind of on the decline.
That's a nice one.
This mock draft is just like, I love it. I hope ours is more accurate than anyone else's.
It's terrific.
People are going to love this.
All right.
Gabe is on the clock.
I'm not even sure if I even pick again ever in this.
Okay.
Gabe.
Yeah, you do.
You have the Tennessee Titans who ever in this. Okay, Gabe. Yeah, you do. You have the Tennessee
Titans who
in this specific spot
they have a need at
pass rusher and there has not been a
single pass rusher taken so
far in this draft. I don't like the way you're
trying to lead this horse to water.
I was just going to tell you that
my
analysis was going to be
whatever the mock draft says at this point.
I have no idea what the Tennessee Titans would do.
They're going to be destined for the next several years
to be a mid-level, like, borderline playoff team
who then gets blown out in playoff games.
So I think they know that.
I think their coach would want a football guy kind of person,
somebody with a weird backstory. This kid Jalen Phillips from Miami, edge rusher,
has kind of a weird history. He was supposed to be great and he had some concussions.
Seems like that's not the kind of thing that worries coach. So I feel like he goes and gets
him. Jalen Phillips is our pick. Yeah, Phillips, wasn't UCLA, went to Miami.
And yeah, he has a lot of injury concerns,
but he played really well last year.
And when he's healthy, he can scoot.
The problem is obviously his health at times.
I don't think Coach Vrabel's worried about that kind of thing.
You're either tough enough or you're not, you know?
You're either tough enough or you're not.
I understand that.
Matt, you have the
new york football jets and uh please break gabe's heart here i don't know which one of your guys
hearts i'm gonna break but i know i'll get a reaction from both of you guys out of this pick
so you drafted a quarterback number two right you've got you've got a couple of receivers you
know you spent a lot of money on cory davis you have jameson crowder all right you have mckay beckton like okay there's not really a natural offensive
line fit you got to give the rookie something to something to go with on that offense so let's get
naji harris in there let's give him a running back who can go and get big plays right off right out
the right out the gate the best runner in the draft pretty good value at
23 uh an underrated pass catcher by the way back-to-back thousand yard seasons in the rush
game and uh very good receiver i think he's going to be a great pro uh even though he'll be on the
jets all right that i did not i did not see going that direction um and according to every mock
draft possible the steelers at 24 pissed
about this because they wanted naji harris we gotta get gabe's reaction out of this here oh
yeah i forgot yeah gabe how do you feel about running back i mean obviously i've been around
jeff for too long to place any value on any running back ever anymore you know uh anyone
could why ladanian tomlinson could be reincarnated as a 21-year-old kid coming out
in this draft. And I would say, we don't want that guy because of Jeff. So of course,
I think this is an idiotic pick. Yeah, I would not, I would just, this doesn't make sense.
Whatever. You've never drafted one in the first round. But people do. And the Jets should,
if someone's going to. Yeah. I mean, it depends on how the board plays out here.
This is, of course, the time when you kind of go best player available.
I've seen many people have said that there's only 16 to 18 first-round grades
on a lot of boards.
So I'm curious to see, obviously, what the Jets do.
I mean, pass rusher, obviously, you can never have enough of those.
Sure.
There was a direction that they could have gone here.
But Pittsburgh is sitting pretty here at 24.
DeJuan Najee Harris,
they could have used a quarterback here,
but don't get any of those.
I think they take Landon Dickerson,
the center guard out of Alabama here,
who is recovering from an ACL,
but he feels like a Pittsburgh offensive lineman.
He is big.
He is physical.
He is smart.
He can play to Alabama.
He can play guard or center for them.
You know, they need to go kind of offense or pass rusher.
I think Landon Dickerson will be the highest graded player right here.
So, I'll give you Landon Dickerson to play offensive line for the Steelers.
I think this is our sixth Alabama pick of this round.
It's either our sixth or our seventh.
I think it might actually be our seventh through 24 picks.
That's ridiculous.
It is, yeah.
I mean, we have one, two, the two wide receivers,
I think six guys, seven guys, you're right, seven guys.
Yeah.
Because Sertain as well.
All right, so now we have 25.
Nick, Jacksonville, back on the clock.
You had their first pick and you had their second pick.
With this pick, you mentioned it earlier,
Trevor Lawrence has been the guy for three years now.
He's never gotten in trouble whatsoever.
So I'm going to give him a little bit of comfort.
I'm going to have his buddy from Clemson go to Jacksonville with him.
I know you love the value of a first-round running back.
So I'm going to pair him up with Travis Etienne in Jacksonville.
Love it.
I definitely think this is a way they could go with this pick,
especially, obviously, if Harris is gone.
Two running backs in the first round.
That is bold.
A lot of people will laugh at the smock draft.
I would never do such a thing.
Well, hang on a second.
Can I actually say something about that?
If you have a rookie quarterback, I mean, James Robinson was pretty good last year,
but wouldn't it actually make sense?
You don't need 10 great years out of these guys.
You need your quarterbacks
not to get killed in their first two years right yeah i mean i i think it's drafting a running back
in the first round is definitely not as bad as extending a running back for a second contract
i'll give you that i mean i'm with you there these guys are both awesome too like pedigree
national championships like if you're gonna take a running back it's these guys
oh i'm not i don't disagree
with you there um again it's better than signing up too long to i'm i'm jackson does have a need
there um in general just like explosive playmakers to help i don't know if you need a running back
per se but i'm fine with this pick right here um again it's not it's better than than paying for
one jeff i'll go one step further. I have a question for you.
Yeah.
Your theory about running backs being so non-valuable
has to do with the fact that they're so replaceable
and that there's so many of them that are talented, correct?
Yes.
Wouldn't that start to lean the other way at a certain point
with the amount of wide receiver talent we have in this draft
where there's only two or three big-name running backs coming coming out but it feels like the wide receivers are all going high but
there's so many of them doesn't the value start to yeah this is why this is why i don't understand
like the bangles would pass up on on sewell for chase like it doesn't make sense to me because
there's plenty of wide receivers and there's a lot of of research that shows you can get a wide
receiver at a much different point in the draft and they play just as well.
And so I think wide receivers are kind of getting in that same area as well.
So I'm curious if people start feeling that way as well.
Boom.
And there it is.
Wireless on the most reliable network nationwide.
That's cool. But with my wireless, I get unlimited for just 30 bucks.
Impressive. But does yours have 5G included?
Of course. And my wireless saves me 400 bucks a year.
That's because you all have Xfinity Mobile with your internet.
It's wireless so good, it keeps one-upping itself.
$30 per line per month. Taxes and fees extra.
Compares pricing of top carriers. Xfinity internet required.
Reduced speeds up to 20 gigabits of usage per line.
Most reliable based on RootMetrics UL's report.
Results vary.
Non-endorsement.
So next up is Gabe with the Browns.
Let it go.
Fire away.
So this is a team that I can't believe I'm saying it.
Has turned into a smart team.
A well-run team.
I think they're not wowed by any of the sexier
names out there right now um they haven't made any moves they've just been sitting tight knowing
that they're already pretty much a playoff caliber team they might even be a real contender this year
if they can do a few things right so i think they run the algorithm paul di podesta and company like
come up with some statistical reason to go after the guy who I think might be that defensive athlete they need to compete in the division they're in. Remember, they got to play the Ravens and the Steelers twice. So I think they go with Eric Stokes out of Georgia, a guy that, you know, scores high in a lot of the measurables people think could be just an athlete on defense i think
they need someone like that eric stokes interesting i have not seen anyone have him in the first round
this would be uh oh i saw i saw him listed as a guy who's flying up draft boards oh okay well
there you go not based on anything i've watched i obviously don't know how to analyze him as a
football player you haven't studied georgia? How dare you? How dare you, sir?
Yeah, so we're going for Eric Stokes.
I like it.
All right, Matt, you were 27 with the Ravens.
You now have two first-round draft picks.
Yeah, the Ravens.
This mock draft may not be 100% accurate, but this part will be accurate.
The Ravens will be sitting here, and you'll be staring at who's left on this board.
You'll go, God damn it.
These guys get a miracle to fall to them every single year.
And this year, I think it's a Harbaugh to Harbaugh connection.
They'll take Quiddy Pay, who some people have as the best, I guess, edge rusher.
But he sort of plays inside, too.
He could maybe be a 3-4 outside backer.
This is one of those that if this were to happen, it would just make all of us mad because the ravens would just get a replacement for matthew judon right away um and he would
definitely be good here 100 agreement here they would 1000 go in this direction um and we will
be upset that they do this because they're going to draft at 31 here in a second you have their
second pick as well um and they're going to end up, I mean, if I, obviously we can get there in a second, but they're end up with two fantastic players just because obviously their
ability to,
to just play it just better than almost anyone else does.
So I'm with you here.
Great pick.
I have the saints now at 31 and 28,
excuse me,
excuse me,
28.
I was thinking about the Ravens pick at 31,
which, which used to be the chiefs um you know it feels like corner at least when you when you look at the at who's
who's on the board where you know they're they're kind of positions of needs um i'll go with caleb
farley here the corner out of virginia tech is, you know, the injury concerns with Farley are quite alarming.
He's been very injured.
He's also very good.
And if they can avoid some of those injuries,
I think they get a steal with Farley here,
who set out this past season for medical concerns.
Give me Farley to the Saints at 28.
Six-foot-two corner.
That feels like a nice pairing with Lattimore.
It definitely does.
All right, next up, Nick, you with the Green Bay Packers.
I will admit I have not seen this guy play a single snap,
but this was by far the pick I was most excited to make.
Here we go.
It has almost nothing to do with the guy himself.
It entirely has to do with what position he plays.
Last year, Aaron Rodgers ran through the league,
and everyone pointed to the lack of first-round wide receiver talent
that they've surrounded him with.
And the storyline persisted that he was only playing this well
because he was mad that they drafted Jordan Love.
And if that's going to lead to an MVP season,
I feel like the next logical step to get a Super Bowl is drafting Davis
Mills with the big arm out of Stanford.
Oh, no.
No, I would just awfully motivate Aaron Rodgers
and draft David Mills out of Stanford.
Oh, my gosh.
I respect that. That was a good pick i just want to make sure rogers was wasn't pissed
off enough let's just make sure that he's he's properly motivated heading into the season
i i get by every word of what you just said that makes sense to me oh god damn
i just like knew that one was coming without even knowing.
I just knew Nick was going to take a quarterback.
I just knew it.
Oh, Jesus.
Oh, unbelievable.
We talked about what would break the internet.
That just would be too.
For motivation.
Unbelievable.
They motivated an MVP caliber season out of him.
You know?
Chess and checkers. Oh all right well well back to reality i have the bills 30th pick i like that you have to pick for the bills let's
see what you do with this by the way they're taking a quarterback a bunch of people this week
tweeted me because uh a clip of us for, me and you talking about MVP odds.
I was down on Josh Allen.
They found it and just started tweeting me about it.
Like it was like I said it yesterday.
Really funny.
The amount of times I was right at that period of time,
I think that was like peak COVID.
I couldn't do anything but read the internet.
And I said a few things then that I would love to have played back.
I also talked
about talked about how they would take a quarterback in the draft to motivate aaron rogers and look
what happened so you did predict that um that yes you did you did nail that um so buffalo needs a
pass rusher in the worst way and they get to draft the kid out of Georgia who some believe is the best
edge rusher here.
Oh,
um,
his name is,
uh,
I'm sorry.
I'm butchering here.
Uh,
old Joe Laurie,
uh,
the defensive end out of Georgia,
um,
feels like a really good spot to,
to get here and really get a lot of value here.
Most people again,
have them at the,
at the kind of the,
you know,
maybe as early as 11 to the giant. So, uh, pass rusher for the Ravens we saw last year have to get home against
Pat Mahomes have to build your team to beat Pat Mahomes and uh that's where he goes all right Matt
31 to the Ravens yeah I like that pick there for Buffalo um Baltimore again another one falls in
their lap they're gonna take Terrace Marshall Jr. uh out of lsu here their biggest need on their whole team i think is uh some weapons for lamar
jackson to throw to uh this is the number one receiver at lsu 4-4 in the 40 had uh 10 touchdowns
only seven games last year was the number one after chase opted out and obviously jefferson
left um i think this is a great pick for them.
And all of a sudden their offense makes a lot more sense to me.
So I think this is a great selection to help Lamar Jackson.
I don't think there's a trade for Julio Jones,
possibly in the works as well.
I do think a possibility for them here is also Creed Humphrey.
It's a center at Oklahoma.
You need to make sure that offensive line is set. That feels like spot for creed to go all right game god you had the bet you
had the jets you're the jets the patriots and tom brady the taba buccaneers you get to end
this mock draft with picking for your favorite player of all time
yeah so again i i kept a few notes for how to prepare for this that doesn't mean i
did any real research i'm sort of backing my way into takes here so all i had here was whatever
tom brady wants so i had to figure out what would tom brady want uh it isn't necessarily what would
be good for the team it's not necessarily what will build them for the future but if he wants to try to win another super bowl he thinks he needs
someone even smaller and and more shifty for him to throw to even faster he wants the ball out of
his hands in like under a second if he can so i did a little research and the person i found who
people seem to think tom brady would want even though i know nothing about this
man other than his stature is rondell moore from purdue i love this five foot seven 180 pounds
probably if he's lucky he's basically battled injuries he has there's no tape but tom brady
is positive that this guy can do like a three-step slant thing and then break one like Julian
and Wes and others.
He's actually really good.
Yeah.
This is a fantastic pick.
I think they could go defensive end here as well.
But Rondell Moore,
I think Tom Brady would love to get Rondell Moore.
I have,
I have done,
I mean,
I don't think we're doing video of this,
but I have done,
I have written down the mock draft and Nick, you fucking broke me, dude. With green Bay. Like I can done, I mean, I don't think we're doing video of this, but I have done, I have written down the mock draft,
and Nick, you fucking broke me, dude, with Green Bay.
Like, I can't, I wrote for motivation.
Like, unbelievable.
I just did not expect that.
Oh, well.
I got to say, to Gabe, if the Chiefs had stayed in that 31st pick,
I was going to take Rondell Moore for them because why not just have two Tyreek Hills?
The guy ran a 4-2-9-40.
So I'm very supportive of that pick.
Hill, Hardman, and Moore.
Yeah.
Well, they now just have Hill and Hardman and Pringle.
So they need somebody else.
The law firm of Hill, Hardman, and Moore.
So, all right, guys.
I will be on Fox Sports' coverage.
We have a live stream the entire draft.
We have a gambling draft show Wednesday.
Obviously, my show, my draft show is out tonight.
Before we wrap up, I do want to get one prediction out of Jeff.
Where does Justin Fields go and does someone
trade up for him um so i i had to do a top 10 for fox sports i put fields at three i think the
diners are taking him at three um they've talked about everyone but fields and that's why i think
they're taking fields like we see this often the draft right you don't talk about someone
how often do we see see when there's a draft
interview and they say, hey,
you were drafted by the Jets. How much do you talk
to the Jets in the pre-draft process? And they're like,
none. They didn't call me. Never
talked to them. It just feels like
Fields is the guy. He's the only guy they're
not talking about. There are a lot of people that
watch college sports who think Fields is
the second best quarterback in this draft.
Daniel Jeremiah
has Mac Jones
32nd on his big board.
DJ knows what he's doing.
32nd on his big board.
Like,
so to me,
I just think
that they're drafting Fields.
There are a couple bets
I do like
if you want to talk gambling.
I like Najee Harris
over Travis Etienne
as a head up.
I think it's minus 185
to minus 200. I think under's minus 185 to minus 200.
I think under 13 and a half defensive players.
It's a pretty good bet.
I took Panay Sewell to the Chargers, I think at plus 1300.
I think that if he gets past, like, I think, I think that,
I think he, I think this Bengals draft chase at six, at five,
and the Dolphins take the next best wide receiver at six,
and seven is when someone
trades up on the charges for Pene Sewell um that feels like a good bet uh to me I just defensive
players don't seem likely um Ross Tucker had a bet on DraftKings that he got promoted that's five
offensive linemen in the first round uh that he had the the top four plus Landon Dickerson like
plus 150 feels like
fun matt any bets that you have laid down i know you you're a wagerer yeah i have both i have trey
lance and mac jones but both like three to one for uh for the third pick so that probably means
they're gonna take fields and i'll lose them both so thanks is there is there by the way is there
one that has like a um uh a mac jones over under like i would take the whatever, is there one that has like a Mac Jones over under?
Like I would take the whatever it is that he doesn't get drafted in the top three.
That's a good one.
I have a feeling he's going to fall too.
Like he's the guy.
He's like the Aaron Rodgers.
He's going to fall, man.
I feel like he's going to fall.
No, am I crazy?
No, I'm with you.
I'm with you.
I actually think what happened in our draft is fairly reasonable
for a scenario for him where somebody, you know, the Bears jump up.
All the way to 18.
I love it.
18 for the Bears.
Bears fans will be pissed.
I think they'd be happy.
So upset.
All right, guys.
We did it.
This is our favorite episode of the year.
Wilson.
I mean, excuse me.
Lawrence, Wilson, Lance, Pitts, Sewell, Chase, Smith, Slater, Fields, Waddle.
Top 10.
The most ridiculous pick is Gabe's pick for the Cowboys.
That's just, that's horrendous.
And then obviously, I can't be upset with Nick's pick with the Packers.
I just, that's an incredible selection.
All right, guys.
Well, we did it.
We made it to draft season.
We'll be back with a full draft recap next week.
We'll roll this train on.
Guys, it's almost May.
It's almost time for like summer camp and OTAs.
Let's go.
We have a full season ahead of us.
Almost back, baby.
All right, guys.
Have a great draft.
Talk to you guys next week.
Take care, everybody.
