Geoff Schwartz Is Smarter Than You - Oregon Falls Apart, Ohio State Lights it up, and Geoff’s Thicc Six
Episode Date: November 22, 2021Geoff and Gabe sort through the aftermath of week 12 of college football to determine who should fill out the selection committee’s playoff rankings and Geoff gives his Thicc Six, the top s...ix teams in CFB right now. Just as Geoff predicted, the good teams are beginning to separate themselves from the pack as we approach the end of the season… but he does wish Oregon didn’t have to be one of the casualties.Geoff and Gabe start their recap of this week’s top stories with a thorough examination of how Utah was able to embarrass Oregon so thoroughly. Most of the blame falls on Anthony Brown and the offense, although allowing the Utes to go 11 of 14 on third down didn’t help. Geoff also shares his thoughts on the Buckeyes’ offensive explosion vs Michigan State and settles the great Stroud/Young/Araiza Heisman debate.Make sure to rate the podcast if you enjoyed, and leave a comment for a chance to be featured in a mailbag segment at the end of the season!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

It's Monday, November 22nd. I'm Jeff Schwartz alongside Gabe Gill.
And this is Jeff Schwartz of Smart.
You are powered by the Varsity Podcast Network.
I'm sad. Gabe is sad. Producer Hank is sad.
It's a bunch of sad college football fans.
But we're happy because, as we said, Gabe,
the college football playoff will work itself out.
And in the end, after all the ups and downs,
we're going to have the same four teams we always have
in the college football playoff. We'll get into
that. We'll get into my Ducks getting
shellacked, Michigan State and
Mel Tucker. And just
Heisman Race is sorting itself out too, guys. There's
two frontrunners as well. And Gabe,
oh boy, my Ducks got
their asses kicked by
Utah on Saturday night. Ugly
game, but still 9-2.
Still playing for the Pac-12 Conference.
Still playing for a chance to go to the Rose Bowl and play Utah actually in two weeks again.
And that's how my night went.
Your Trojans lost by 800, and we're both sad.
Yeah, that's a pretty great summary of how Saturday felt.
What I wasn't picturing, what I like to picture
because of this podcast usually,
is you late on a Saturday night in your hot tub with a cigar.
You've sort of painted this picture for us a few times,
and I do not think that you were enjoying a cigar in a hot tub last night.
No hot tub last night, but I did actually at halftime.
I was like, we have a friend, my wife's best friend is here,
and her guy is here, and so we're like, Mike.
I was like, Mike, let's have a cigar.
28-0 at halftime.
So we went outside.
It's like 30 degrees outside in Charlotte.
We bundled up.
I had a cigar during the second half.
I mean, at least I enjoyed myself watching ourselves get our ass kicked.
I guess we'll start there.
The Pac-12 out of the playoff again.
It's just frustrating, Gabe.
Yeah.
It is.
It's a bummer because I actually found myself rooting for Oregon,
which was an uncomfortable feeling.
But I thought, you know, let's see them stay in it
and keep all doors open for the Pac-12 for future years.
Maybe USC will find a coach.
Maybe USC will bounce back.
We need Oregon to keep the whole damn conference relevant.
And they crapped the bed bad.
So do you want to take me through the play-by-play of how awful that was in Utah or do you want to give me your thick six or your playoff preview
what how are we doing let's go with the let's go with our with our playoff first and then we'll go
to take our takeaways because I think it's it's pretty simple and people come for this and I
could rant about Oregon and people can tune that out if they would like but basically we talk a lot
about again the start of the playoff rankings. Oh, my God.
How's this going to work out?
Oh, no.
And guess what, guys?
It's working itself out.
Georgia's won.
Look, the Pac-12 Conference plays nine conference games.
We should play eight.
Then Oregon wouldn't have played Utah.
They would have played Charleston Southern like Georgia did yesterday.
Or whoever Murray State, whoever A&M played, or Prairie View A&M,
or whatever these teams played.
But nonetheless, Georgia kicked Georgia under the ass.
I think they're pretty much going to win the SEC,
and they're probably going to win the championship.
So I'll put Ohio State second.
God, they are playing some good football, man.
You know, obviously bounce back from the Oregon loss.
Their offense is playing better.
They probably have the Heisman winner quarterback.
We'll talk about that in just a few minutes.
Gabe, they were on pace for 1,000 yards at halftime.
They had 501 yards before they took a knee to end their first half.
They're 49-0 against Michigan State.
Part of that Michigan State just had a bad game plan,
but Ohio State offensively is locked in right now.
So they're number two.
Alabama's number three.
Here you go.
Cincinnati's number four.
You're in.
You're in, guys.
Oh, it happened.
It happened because it's going to work itself out. I'll Here you go. Cincinnati is number four. You're in. You're in, guys. Oh, it happened. It happened because
it's going to work itself out. I'll tell you why.
They're at number four. They
kicked SMU's ass, right? We asked them to
play big in a big game. They did.
They did what they had to do. They kicked their ass.
They're at four.
Five is Michigan.
Guess what? Michigan and Ohio State play each other.
If Ohio State loses, they're out, and Michigan's in.
If Michigan loses, bye-bye.
Michigan's out, and Ohio State is guaranteed to be in
because they're not going to lose to Wisconsin
or whoever they play in the Big Ten Championship game.
Number six, dealer's choice, Oklahoma State.
Pick what you want.
Guess what?
They play each other this week.
So we'll figure it out.
It's done.
We'll figure out who wins that.
If Oklahoma State wins, they're they're up if Oklahoma wins they're up to number
five or six it's that simple right it works itself out in the end because Oregon is out of there
uh and Michigan State out of there and so in the end it's all the one wild card Notre Dame fighting
Irish and they're gonna lose out because they don't play in the conference title game. It's that simple.
If they had joined
the ACC conference this year,
they would have won the conference
and been in the playoff 100%.
But they didn't,
and now they are not
going to be in the playoff.
No, not...
So, basically,
if they need Cincinnati
to lose to Houston
in the ACC championship game,
that would be helpful.
And they need probably Oklahoma, that would be helpful. And they need
probably Oklahoma, Oklahoma
State to split. You know, Oklahoma wins
I believe, then they put Oklahoma State again, and they
split those games in the Big
Tone. So they need a little bit of help, but they're
right there. I mean, they kicked George's ass
yesterday. I mean, they looked good doing so.
So here we are, guys. As much as we
talk about parity and this and that,
we're right where we're going to be, with with the four teams that were favored to make the playoff
are making the playoff.
What a surprise.
Yeah, what a surprise.
But I want to drill into the Cincinnati part
because you're saying the wild card could be Notre Dame
and they're rooting for Cincy to lose
to even give themselves a chance.
But I'd say no, they're not.
Because if Cincy loses then their
loss to Cincy is even worse and I think that they get somebody else gets picked over them they have
the most convoluted path possible but I think this was the weekend our buddy Mike Golick's uh junior
pointed out like oh wait yeah Notre Dame like they're I think everyone in the middle of the day
Saturday went oh yeah wait a second those guys are in one playing some really good ball I mean they barely give up any
points they're pouring 30 or 40 on everyone 50 something sometimes but I just don't see a path
well yeah I mean look a lot of things have to happen it doesn't feel like it's going to happen
like that that's what it is right like there's a lot of things that have to happen but they're
probably not and so there's not much that's going to change and Notre Dame again they they are hurt by not being in a
conference this season now and when a 12-team playoff happens they'll never have this problem
they'll be in every year Notre Dame will be in the playoff every year it's why they're for playoff
expansion they'll in every year no matter what but look then again Oregon's probably in every year, no matter what. But look, then again, Oregon's probably in every year.
Utah, USC in every year.
Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, kind of a combination.
A&M, a combination of three of those five or four of those five teams are in every year.
You know, some of them sneak in, obviously.
Oklahoma, well, I guess Oklahoma, Texas now,
or Oklahoma is in.
So they're going to, like, all these teams are going to be in.
They'll be a walker every year.
You put UTSA in one year.
Yeah, baby.
And they'll put in maybe two group of five teams one year.
But in the end, Gabe, it worked itself out.
And that's because my ducks just shit the bed last night.
I guess we'll go there now.
I didn't prep anything.
I just said, Oregon, Jeff, go.
Yeah, I know.
I saw. I was said, Oregon, Jeff, go. Yeah, I know. I saw.
I was very surprised by the outcome.
I went back and watched the film this morning.
I guess I'll start defensively because it looked pretty bad.
It wasn't – yeah, it just was – our third down defense was atrocious.
And so the worst parts about our defense are two things.
Missed tackles on third down defense.
Guess what hurt us in this game?
Missed tackles on third down defense.
We had stops to make.
We just didn't make them We just didn't make them.
We didn't make them.
Utah rushed for first downs on third down three, four, five times.
It was just bad.
They had a great game plan.
They ran away from Kayvon Thibodeau, checked all the plays.
But I didn't think our defense was that bad.
I know we led 38 points, but it's hard when your offense freaking sucks
to make plays on the defense.
We talk about this all the time, right?
Defense is an emotional position.
If you don't have the support of your offense,
and really your team depends on the personality of your quarterback, right?
If you don't have the support of your offense and your quarterback,
you're not going to play as well.
And this defense wore down over time.
I mean, they allowed 386 yards.
I mean, it's not like they got – but the problem is third down.
Utah was 11 of 14 on third down. Utah was 11-14
on third down. That's the problem.
Like, you know, they average 4.2 yards per
rushing attempt. It's not like they dominate
Oregon. It just...
Defense... Whatever.
Offensively is the problem.
I talk about this all season long.
Our quarterback is not good.
And we got the
worst version of Anthony Brown this game.
I went back and watched the game, as I said, on offense.
Boy, there are plays to be made.
Oh, man, there are open wide receivers.
There are running lanes to be had.
Utah did some interesting things to kind of help contain the edges,
the way they played on defense.
It's called kind of a spill and scrape where the outside linebacker
forced everything to the inside linebacker.
Really, in this case, inside linebacker scraping across.
Doesn't matter.
They did some fun things.
But nonetheless, they're a place to be made.
They're right there.
And the end of the first half, okay, we're down 21-0.
We got the ball back like 30 seconds left.
We go incomplete pass, incomplete pass, run the ball, timeout,
punt the ball, Utah scores a touchdown,
which is funny because Utah entered the game 123rd on special teams,
and we entered fifth.
We missed two field goals, first two we missed all season,
got a punt return.
But here's the thing, the first play of that drive,
there's a guy wide open for a touchdown.
Utah blows the coverage.
The safety in cover two doesn't get over there.
Weird guy got streaking
for a touchdown. Wide open.
Brown doesn't throw the ball to him. There's plenty of protection.
Plenty of time to do it. Our wide receiver
is openly revolting on the field. I'd be tired
too. We have a 6'5 wide receiver.
Throw it up to him. But Brown throws the ball on the ground
to him all the time. It's just frustrating.
Your Oregon fans say all the time, well, why don't we play the young kid? He's not ready to him. But Brown throws the ball on the ground to him all the time. It's just frustrating. And your Oregon fans say all the time,
well, why don't we play the young kid?
He's not ready to play.
It's interesting.
People say, well, Tua came in and Jalen Hurts.
The one time?
Like, come on.
I mean, not all true freshmen are ready to play.
Bryce Young in Alabama in his second year.
CJ Stratton, Ohio State, in his second year.
They didn't play much last season.
Like, to act like true freshmen come in all the time,
and they're just sometimes they're not ready yet.
And I'm not saying Ty Thompson will be those guys,
but it's frustrating because guys are open,
they're a place to be had, and it didn't happen.
Now, again, if we beat Oregon State, we play Utah again in two weeks,
and we'll see how that game goes.
But I was just disappointed because typically we show up in those games
and we just didn't.
We got our butts whooped.
And it's hard to see because that has typically not happened to us in a game of this magnitude.
And we lost.
We got our butts whooped.
And we're going to have to regroup and get back after it.
Utah did a great job.
Credit them.
They played some good football.
It's hard to win there.
No Pac-12 team has won there since early 2018.
It's hard, man.
Well, that sums it up, man.
It was rough. I guess I want to ask you,
if it's not too soon, you sure you don't want to get on this cancel kicker thing with me?
You sure you still want kickers around? Because this game fell apart when your kicker blew two
and it was still a close game. I know, right? It was not good. Yeah. And our kicker, I said,
had not missed a kickoff season. Yeah, so that sucked.
You're right.
The quarterback, man, I haven't watched him like you have,
but I saw a turf monster get him once.
Like, he just, I know he's super experienced, right?
He basically played a full college career before he came in.
He's a sixth-year senior, yeah.
Yeah, I mean, crazy experience.
That said, he just looked confused,
and I did not realize how tough it must be to play at Utah at night I remember a few USC games not going so well there but I didn't realize just how wild it was
um you people in Utah don't don't make me think of crazy but they they're pretty loud well that's
BYU where you can't drink they could drink at this game um yeah okay they sure yeah um yeah it was a
highest attended game ever at Rice Eccles because they just had an expansion.
And, yeah, the last home game they lost in conference was September 2018,
or like early October 2018.
They don't lose at home a lot.
Yeah.
Well, weird segue here, but the team with a bad loss at home to Oregon
that I want to talk about next,
because I think they've made everyone forget about it, is Ohio State.
So you talked about it in teasing the show today.
We obviously have to spend a lot of time on this.
So the Buckeyes looked absolutely insane.
They mutilated Michigan State 56-7.
It was over in the second quarter.
C.J. Stroud, who I guess you're making your Heisman favorite now,
completed like 91% of his passes, 400 yards six touchdowns every receiver was eaten so Ohio
State looks like you moved them all the way up to two they look unbeatable to everyone that isn't
in the SEC but I want to talk about how bad a day this was for Mel Tucker or maybe it wasn't uh like holy crap what
happened to this team that we were talking about could have been a playoff team where why did they
fall flat they were worse than Oregon yeah um so obviously Mel Tucker the report was he had a big
contract due uh to his do his way and um I don't know if it got signed, but it probably might be rescinded now.
But it is, you know, for $90 million-ish.
And now, obviously, there is a talking that maybe the contract is not going
to be quite what they wanted.
I was surprised to see the number for Mel Tucker because, you know,
I think he's a good coach, but I don't know if it's that $90 million.
Well, I think we now know he's not that.
And it looked like they didn't know what they were doing.
I understand, like, when you watch Oregon play Utah,
you didn't get the sense that, like, they didn't know what they were doing.
They just got their butts whooped.
Like, Michigan State just didn't look like on defense,
had no idea what to do.
Guys are wide open everywhere.
Defense had no idea what to do.
Guys are wide open everywhere.
It's not good for Mel to lose that way in a game like that.
So, boy, it was 49-0 at halftime.
They allowed 500 yards offensively, nothing.
People talk a lot about Ohio State's offense.
Their defense is playing a lot better.
They made a switch of play caller kind of a couple games after couple games after the organ loss and who they are rolling i would i would really want to see ohio state georgia's ohio state's offense georgia's defense it'd be a lot of fun yeah i'd be into that i think um you
know the the real headline for ohio state though is those receivers right so i mean we the last
few weeks we've started to realize like there's there's pros all over the field running routes i mean we didn't we did not realize that but wilson olave i
mean they've played better lately as the offensive starter played better and the question becomes
you know is it sort of what with alabama last year right is it mac jones is it davante smith
um or is it cj strata the wide receiver i think it's a little bit of both. I mean, Ohio State is a deep passing attack.
That's what they do.
They throw the ball deep.
And the combination of what Stroud can do well and the wide receivers do well
and the offensive line plays well, it is nearly impossible to stop them
unless they commit a bunch of turnovers, which would happen in the Oregon game.
Oregon did a good job on fourth down and forced some turnovers.
But, you know, I mean, Chris olave in this game averaged 20 yards uh gary wilson averaged 18 um smith and
jigba averaged 10 they had five touchdown passes i mean like caught it's just you got three wide
receivers man you don't have three good corners you might only have one in college football it's
hard to stop an offense like this yeah all right well so let's talk about the team that has to stop them
and i i think they this will be the closest sort of game on paper that they play all year right so
this they got michigan big rivalry game it would have been a big game even if michigan weren't
looking so good but sort of quietly michigan has a. Now apparently they have an offense.
They scored like 50-something on Saturday.
Most points they've scored in a long time.
They were just sort of getting it done for a few weeks early in the year.
Now they're starting to put up some style points.
I'm sure Ohio State's going to be favored, but by how much?
And do we think michigan might have something
going on defense that can stop those three receivers who ah dude we've just seen over the
last couple years michigan is just too slow on defense and i'm not sure they got any faster
i'm not sure that's going to change very much uh this year i think the line is going to be near seven.
Is that right?
Something around there.
I don't think lines are out quite yet as we record this morning.
Ohio State favored by six and a half.
But I mean, Michigan's path to winning this game is run the football,
play keep away, and just don't allow explosive plays.
It's kind of what Oregon did. Run the and just don't allow explosive plays. It's kind of what Oregon did.
Run the football, don't allow explosive plays.
You're probably not holding them under 28 points.
So again, that's the game plan.
And teams have not been able to do that
because Ohio State's defense has played much better lately.
So they have a chance.
They're at home.
It's the best chance they've had in seven years
since Harbaugh's been there.
What was that 41, 42-39 game when they were
one versus two? I don't know when that was.
Seven years or something like that.
It's the best chance
they've had in years. Look, to me, a great game.
Looking forward to it.
But if Ohio State wins this game, they're obviously a playoff team.
But Michigan will get
the love that they deserve. They end up
dominating Ohio State.
Alright, well yeah i'd
be scared of that game a little bit if i were a better uh and a buckeyes fan so at michigan
you know utah looked like a tough place to play on saturday the big house is going to be
a real tough place to play yeah uh and i look 59 points i get it it's maryland maryland doesn't really belong in the big 10
to people my age but 59 points means this offense can move i mean i could see one of those weird
shootouts like michigan had with michigan state and it probably still goes ohio state's way but
i could see that coming down to kind of who has it at the end and who runs a big play? I mean, ESPN has a pick center thing and it has this game at 36, basically 36-29.
It's right at the line.
What a surprise.
I think Michigan would be pretty pumped if that game was 36-29.
I mean, obviously they're in that game.
They've kind of tamped the defense, I mean the offense out a little bit.
They've scored enough on there.
Again, the way this works is what the formula is for Michigan.
Run the football.
Limit big plays.
But again, look, they were down 14 points,
and Michigan stayed late in that game.
I don't know if Michigan's that good.
I don't know how it sits off.
It's going to be hard.
Obviously, it's Monday.
I don't have a great feel for how I'm going to wager in this game.
But it is the best chance Michigan's had in years and years and years.
All right.
So then let's say, let's give it to them.
Michigan pulls off the upset, Jeff.
It's a week from now.
They just won the biggest game they've won in a decade.
They're marching towards the playoff.
But wait a second.
Without us realizing it, the other side of this
conference has a couple teams that can easily, easily ruin your day and then ruin the whole
playoff for the Big Ten. So Wisconsin is like on a mission ever since we ruled them dead.
Eight and three, just beat Nebraska, fine, whatever. Iowa, you know, for a minute there,
we thought was legit. they're not but nine and
two team is there any chance that the team you know these two teams beat each other up this weekend
and then the Big Ten championship from the other side of the conference comes in and ruins it for
everybody could you see it happening um no so you don't see a Wisconsin, perhaps, who's red hot beating either of these teams?
No, because defensively they're just too slow.
You have to be able to run with Ohio State.
That's what Oregon was able to do.
Oregon can run on defense.
They just can't run fast enough.
Okay.
Well, I'm not going to press you on that point then
because I have a feeling the two strongest teams by far are Michigan Ohio State uh good on you Mel Tucker I hope the docu sign made it over to the uh
AD's office I know right oh boy oh boy that would be pretty rough if uh if you didn't get that thing
signed before that game I mean he could have been trying to do the thing uh we know Richard
Williams did I saw King Richard over the weekend good movie by the way Jeff I know you're not not
as much of a movie guy as I am watch that that one. It was nice. He basically held out when Venus was about to go pro. I think it was Nike came and made her a $3 million offer before she'd ever played a professional match. And Richard was like, well, you haven't even seen her play yet. So no thanks. And she won her first match. The offer went up to four. And they held out again.
And eventually she signed for $12 million with Reebok.
So maybe Mel Tucker was thinking, this number could get even bigger if I beat Ohio State.
But I sure hope he signed at halftime.
But also, too, is what if you're Mel Tucker and you see this game and you're like,
I'm not winning at Michigan State.
I'm going to LSU.
Yeah, there also is that.
There's also the idea of like,
oh, I just don't know if I can do it here.
People talk a lot about Mario Cristobal going to Miami.
It's like, no.
Why would he go to Miami?
They're not going to win at Miami.
But LSU, three titles in 18 years with three different coaches.
If Mel Tucker goes to LSU and just has better players,
maybe he feels that he's got a chance to
win a title there and he doesn't have a title michigan like he might leave michigan state
after a game like this yeah i hadn't considered it that way that yeah i mean mike danton dantonio uh
he'd be a good person to ask that question too because i feel like michigan state for the entire
time he was there was always super competitive and I don't remember ever referring to them as a national title contender.
They were great.
They had a great defense.
A few quarterbacks he put in the league.
A couple really nice years, but, man,
I don't remember ever anyone thinking they were going to win a title.
So you might be on to something there.
All right, so how about the team that always everyone thinks is going to win
the title no matter what, even if they lose?
That's Alabama. So Bryce Young's winning the Heisman what, even if they lose? Yeah, that's Alabama.
So Bryce Young's winning the Heisman.
I'll just save you time on your C.J. Stroud theory.
That's silly.
He hasn't thrown a pick in over a month.
He's got 18 touchdowns since then.
Five, I want to say, on Saturday.
Set an Alabama quarterback record for passing yards on Saturday.
The team just clobbered.
He's looking incredible it's scary as
hell that Alabama is where they are at this moment because we haven't had to talk about them as much
this season but they're right where they want to be and he's going to win the Heisman talk me off
it well Heisman's going to be C.J. Stroud no no it is and um here's why. And Bryce Young has Auburn this weekend, and they play Georgia.
Now, if C.J. Stroud doesn't play as well against Michigan and Wisconsin,
okay, fair enough.
And Bryce Young could win this.
But I don't think Bryce Young is going to play as well against Georgia
as Stroud will play well against Michigan and Wisconsin, let's say.
So that's part of it.
And Alabama's not as good either, I think, this season,
especially on defense.
I mean, Arkansas gave them a run last night.
And so if they lose to Georgia in the NCAA championship game,
he's not winning the Heisman anyways.
And it'll be C.J. Stroud as a playoff team.
So C.J. Stroud had 400 yards passing at halftime yesterday.
He was like, what, 29 of 31 for 500 yards,
400 yards, some crazy number like that.
So we talked a lot about the Heisman this year,
right?
Like,
oh my God,
what's going to happen?
What's going to happen?
Works itself out.
Now I would give it to Matt Ariza,
the punter from San Diego State,
who's maybe the best player in all the country.
So,
Roger Sherman,
who tweets about him each week,
this is Friday night,
six punts,
five inside the 20,
no touchbacks,
no returns.
59 yard punt to the five yard line,
a 44 yard punt to the one an extremely rare game ending punt which dribbled along the ground to the clock expired
he is our Heisman um but it's gonna be Stroud it's gonna be Stroud okay but isn't Bryce Young
just clearly the better quarterback I'm I I don't see anything in Stroud that tells me he's great
yeah that's probably fair I'm yeah that's me he's great. Yeah, that's probably fair.
Yeah, that's fair.
I would say that Bryson's probably better, yes.
Okay, so it comes down to they're both putting up insane numbers right now.
Stroud's numbers should stay closer to the insane level we've seen the last few weeks
in his next couple of weeks.
Yes.
And Young's going to have to sort of just do what it takes to get past Georgia,
which means no style points, which means hurting his chances.
I buy the logic.
I just couldn't believe what I saw, statistically at least,
this weekend from Young.
And I realized that he was everyone's favorite to start the year.
We spent six or eight weeks talking about every other person we can think of
for the Heisman, and then here we are with him, which is kind of your point.
So is there anything that you saw offensively from Alabama over the weekend that you think that the guys in Georgia are spending a little extra time watching film on?
Because that's the game they're getting ready for.
They're not worried about Georgia Tech right now.
Yeah, no, no.
I think that Alabama's offensive line can be had,
and that's where I think you're going to attack Alabama.
It's for C.J. Strickland.
Bryce Young into third and long situations,
which no quarterback wants to be in.
But that's how they do it, right?
They force you into tough spots and have to make plays.
And that's what they're going to do.
They're going to try to shut the rundown on first down
and make Alabama very one-dimensional,
which is what they do to every team.
You hope that our corners and pass rush can get home.
Yeah, all right.
Well, I mean, it's going to be as good an SEC championship
as we've seen in a while because I thought for a second,
boy, it's kind of unfair.
Georgia gets Georgia Tech.
Alabama has to play Auburn.
Except Bo Nix is out.
Auburn isn't really a threat at all.
Maybe if they'd met up six weeks ago,
I would have said Auburn could surprise Alabama.
Well, their quarterback's out, by the way.
Bo Nix is out.
That's what I just said, yeah.
So that's going to be a real struggle uh for them to stay close i i thought it was going to be
alabama was going to come in kind of beat up but they're both going to get to rest this week before
the championship game so then all right fast forward it for one more minute i want to i want
to end on cincinnati because i think they deserve a little bit more time but okay they play a few
scenarios georgia blows out alabama
in the sec championship game we don't know why that would happen but it does alabama's out of
the playoff assuming oklahoma oklahoma state have one loss one you know they each have one of one
and we'll have one loss okay so as long as the big 10 and big 12 have one loss champs but but but but i do think but
but i do think there's going to be a scenario where a two loss bama gets in over one loss
notre dame yeah well that would mean that would mean the big 10 and the big 12 have to get messier
it could be for them to the big 12 would have to be the one that gets messier, most likely. Okay.
All right, so that was scenario one.
Scenario two, Georgia wins.
It's super close.
That's the one we're kind of all mostly expecting.
And in that scenario, we think Georgia's the obvious one.
Bama's the three.
And Bama's in even with the like with the close loss or you're saying the one loss dominant looking
big 10 and big 12 champs get in above a two loss alabama probably a two loss alabama is not getting
over one loss big 12 or big 10 champion yeah. Okay, so then you sort of clarified from earlier.
That's the easiest way to say it.
So now, this is the only tricky one.
Alabama wins, or maybe it's the cleanest one.
Alabama wins, close or otherwise, it doesn't really matter.
We still think, so they go to the one,
we drop Georgia to the three,
but there's no way Georgia falls out after the year they've had,
even if they lose by four touchdowns.
We still think Georgia stays in because nobody's putting Oklahoma State in over Georgia after what we saw this season, right?
Yes, correct. Yeah. I think Georgia's in no matter what.
Okay. And is there any scenario where Cincinnati isn't the four if they somehow are lucky enough to get in?
Because this was a very nice weekend for Cincinnati everything went their way I think they're in and they're going to lose to Georgia
by four touchdowns and everyone will just shut up about this whole thing okay and we'll say man we
should have put UTSA in instead yes bingo yes think about it though since he they they probably
you know other than Notre Dame they win their toughest competition they blow out
you know uh SMU who just a few weeks ago was undefeated and ranked uh Notre Dame looks very
good so their one actual win this season looks even tougher yeah you know the Ohio State and
Michigan have to play each other like everything everything's coming up Cincinnati. Their team probably was better last year than this year, too.
Oh, well, that may be so, but it doesn't matter.
This is the year that they're going to sneak their way in.
So, all right.
Well, I mean, Jeff, you gave us the full coverage of college football.
I don't think there's anything we missed from Saturday.
We obviously have to talk about Sunday on our Tuesday show.
Of course, Chiefs-Cowboys is going to be the headline of that
no matter how it plays out.
Yeah, there's some interesting things with the Ravens
have some illnesses and Murray's not going to play.
I mean, there's some interesting things that are going to happen on Sunday.
The Vikings can beat the Packers.
Aaron Rodgers is a little hurt.
I don't know.
There's a lot of rumors floating around as we record this in the morning.
But yeah, the NFL is, the Chiefs win.
They beat the favorites again in the AFC.
