It's Tuesday, October 20th. Week 6 was another wild one. Aaron Rodgers couldn't relax in the pocket against Tampa.
Atlanta got off the schneid against a lost Kirk Cousins. Is it finally time to worry about New England Patriots falling apart?
I'm Jeff Schwartz alongside Matt Ford. For Jeff Schwartz is smarter than you.
I always kind of like fumble with the name of the podcast. I don't know why. It's my name.
I'm sad Gabe can't be here to talk about New England not playing well because that's his favorite thing in the entire world.
To be frank with what we're recording right now, the Chiefs and Bills game has just ended.
The Cowboys-Cardinals game is playing right now. If anything weird happens in the game,
we'll talk about it, but I don't expect it. That's why we're recording right now. So we
get this out to you guys by Tuesday morninguesday morning matt how are you doing buddy i'm good man it's funny gabe can't talk about new england
because he's traveling back from old england that's the reason he can't be here uh he is
traveling back with three kids um really uh yeah it's i would not wish that upon anyone um so yeah
chiefs beat the bills uh chiefs look good, finally, on offense.
It was good to see them.
And the defense looked great tonight.
And it's weird watching the Chiefs play, man.
Like, it's just...
Even though my brother got hurt,
and thank you guys for sending all the well wishes
and asking about my brother.
His back is probably going to be okay,
but it's hurt from carrying my media career.
I know that a lot of people say that to me.
They say to me, Matt, the only reason you have a media career is because you're a brother.
So I thought I'd throw that in.
I did tweet that.
People seem to enjoy that.
But I don't know about his status.
I'll let you guys know if I'm allowed to tell at some point.
But yeah, Chiefs win.
Bills look bad.
And now we can start the podcast.
Yeah, we can.
So why don't we start there, actually?
So, you know, my first topic for today was going to be Aaron Rodgers and how unsettled
he looked against Tampa's D, but I think we can sort of just bunch Josh Allen in there
too.
You've got Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, both of them came into this week.
People were talking about each as MVP candidates.
I think the Rodgers argument was a little stronger than the Josh Allen argument, but people were
still making it. With both guys, they ran into defenses that seemed to just completely figure
them out. Aaron Rogers, two picks. He hadn't thrown a pick all season. Josh Allen, I believe,
was under 100 passing yards total for the whole game. So why don't we start with Josh Allen,
since that's fresh? What happened?
What were the Chiefs doing that worked so well?
Well, a couple of things.
I think the Titans last week have given a better blueprint on the Bills, right?
So we talk about this offensive revolution in the NFL, and the Bills are a big part of
it.
A ton of play action pass, right?
We're going to take a limited quarterback, and that's maybe the wrong word to use for
Josh Allen, but a guy who is not as accurate as other quarterbacks.
And we're going to scheme up great play-action pass, move the pocket,
just great spots to put him in to complete these passes.
And they've done a great job of that, right?
Well, Tennessee on Tuesday now said,
hey, look, we're going to sit back and not let them beat us deep.
We'll take anything underneath.
We'll force him to make more accurate throws underneath.
Instead of just letting his big arm air the ball out deep.
That's what the Chiefs did tonight.
The Chiefs just sat back and said, hey, if you want to run the ball, go ahead.
Run the ball.
We're going to sit back.
We're not going to let you beat us deep.
Now, they had one holding call, I believe, deep.
And then another one they waved off, which was, I think, the right call.
But otherwise, there was no one running wide open down the field,
which has been something that the Bills have had this season.
So what are they going to do now?
What's going to be their counter?
What are they going to do to their offense now that we've seen two weeks now
of the blueprint being out, which is, hey, let's just sit back.
Which, by the way, also the blueprint for the Chiefs.
But you saw tonight Mahomes' outstanding job in the pocket tonight.
Outside of, I think, one or two plays.
So credit there.
Chiefs offensive line played really well.
But they got the ball out quickly, right?
They got the ball out quick, in rhythm, on time, on target.
Mahomes looked really good against a zone.
The Chiefs need to take what people give them.
And the Bills are going to have to find a way for that to become their offense, too.
So the chiefs defense
last week we talked about this on the thursday show yeah last week they played the raiders who
had kind of the same offensive skill set as the bills right uh but seemed to have completely
adjusted um it felt to me like defenses across the league sort of had a better week this week
tampa and and kc now obviously uh two of the best defenses but you know miami had a better week this week. Tampa and KC now obviously two of the best defenses,
but Miami had a shutout.
It just felt like there was a little bit of a turn
where the offenses,
they didn't play a professional football team,
I understand that,
but it just feels like the defenses,
the good defenses, Pittsburgh,
starting to sort of catch up to those offenses
where at the beginning of the season,
no one could stop anybody.
No, I think that's very fair.
I think as we get going more this season, we'll see more of that, right?
We'll see teams defensively as tackling gets better, as it gets colder, right?
You're not going to throw the – even tonight, the game's raining, right?
You're not going to be throwing the ball as much down the field as you would be
if it's bright and sunny outside.
So, yeah, we will see a little correction, I think, back to defense.
And that's why, by the way, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, the Chiefs,
like these teams are really complete, right?
They can play defense and can score a bunch of points.
Those are teams you have to watch out for as we get deeper in the season.
All you have to do on defense now, Gabe, is hit the quarterback.
Gabe?
Sorry, Matt. I'm sorry. I'm used to the – it's on my bed. I, is hit the quarterback. Gabe? Sorry, Matt.
I'm sorry.
I'm used to the – it's on my bed.
I'm used to the – me and you are talking – by the way, winning week,
three and two, so we'll take it two straight weeks winning.
Let's go.
I did throw out your Dolphins pick again, so now I'm like 0 for three
and consecutive weeks of throwing out your Dolphins pick that wins.
They're finally on bye, so we can miss that one.
Go ahead.
So, you know, we're –'re defensively all you have to do now
is is obviously hit you know hit the quarterback but just keep everything in front of you right
like just keep everything in front of you don't allow big plays and that's what the
defense are doing so let's talk about the tampa bay defense specifically um i'm not really sure
what happened to green bay in that game coming off the
bye they came out pretty hot i was wondering if maybe rogers got a little bit dinged up on that
touchdown that got called back where he took that shot to the back he sort of never really
looked the same after that but like i it seemed to me that tampa didn't really do all that much
they just blitzed and they don't blitz that often it seems like it just green bay just never they they seem to like never bring in that extra blocker like jamal
jamal williams was always like having to take on an edge rusher like it just didn't work like
was that tampa playing really well or was that green bay that didn't really prepare um i think
it's a little bit of both you know some offenses don't have like built-in blockers in pass
protection to help them out and i want to make and i want to make this clear too i don't think
that actually helps matt when you're getting pressured the way to to defeat it is throw the
ball quickly is spread everyone out and get the ball as quickly as possible and i think i think
what makes tampa so great is they is all their back-end defenders,
including the linebackers, can run.
They can run and cover, right?
So if you do bring pressure,
you're able to kind of shut off those valves
of where Aaron Rodgers would throw.
But there was also a really good job,
I put on my Twitter, at Jeff Schwartz,
of the nose tackle one time,
like hooked the left guard under his arm,
and then they looped around the linebacker on a pressure.
So left guard couldn't get out, and he blasted Aaron Rodgers.
So just little things like that also help you get home.
I think it's very clear, and this is a stat,
I'll give credit to Colin Coward for this.
When Aaron Rodgers has been behind in a game at any point,
his record is under 500, under 500.
That's remarkable.
I mean, just by one point point one point under 100 i mean pat
mahomes has come back from like eight double digit scores in the last 12 games right pretty
incredible yeah um and i think it's shown now that when the packers get punched in the mouth
and this happened last year against the 49ers twice is they just don't have this um this way
to physically match what when they're getting punched in the mouth.
And look, they have good offensive linemen.
It's kind of odd.
And I'm not at all accusing any of their offensive linemen of being soft.
I really don't think that at all.
But just a way about their offense.
And maybe it's Rodgers.
Maybe someone.
But look, Matt.
Every time a defense punches them in the mouth, they don't have a counter.
They don't have anything else to do.
And again, I don't think it's an offensive line issue.
I think it's like a personality of the offense problem.
It's sort of like what Baltimore has.
We sort of talk about that sometimes where it's like they run into adversity and then they kind of fall apart.
A lot of teams do this.
It's not just the Green Bay Packers.
Yeah, it's true.
You know, looking at the NFC now, you've got
Chicago in first in the NFC North. I mean, Green Bay, it's sort of a little murky. Tampa now,
you know, clearly with a statement win there. I mean, who are you putting at the top of the
pile in the NFC right now? It's Seattle and then who? Yeah. I mean, Tampa Bay is the most complete
team if you look at what their defense and their offense can do.
And look, Tom Brady is not going to win you a game
by himself now.
He can win you a game if it's part of
what we saw the other night, right?
Which is the defense is playing really well.
Their offensive line, by the way,
played extremely well up until the Bears game.
Kind of redeemed themselves last weekend, I thought.
Played really well against a good Packers defense line.
Tampa Bay is the most complete team.
And look, credit Tom Brady.
He did what Manning did.
He chose the best spot to go that had the best defense.
So he knows he doesn't have to do everything for himself.
And they're the most complete team.
I don't know if they can, you know,
Seattle obviously can score a bunch of points,
but defensively, they're not as good.
I had high hopes for the Rams, obviously,
as I made my case for them for the entire show on Thursday.
Obviously, it didn't look very good in that game.
So I don't know who else can beat Tampa Bay if they're playing their best game.
The way to look at it is if you're playing your best game, who can beat you?
And the Packers, obviously, they tried.
They couldn't do it.
The New Orleans, probably not going to do it.
Week one, they did it.
But probably, I don't think, moving forward, the Bears are a fraudulent 5-1.
They're not going to do it, right?
And what, the Rams?
Probably not, right?
I mean, the Cardinals?
No.
So who in the NFC can challenge them?
I think it's Tampa.
Right now, if they play their best game, they're beating Seattle playing their best game. Yeah. Well, let's stick in the NFC, Jeff. One of
the most interesting games to track this week and one that we just got dead wrong was Atlanta
finally got a win. They beat the Vikings 40 to 23, a game that never even really felt close.
The first thing I sort of want to dive into here is Atlanta won this game on the road,
despite a coaching change and a COVID scare that made them close their facility in the
middle of the week.
I'm curious, like just overall with this COVID thing, we've now seen, you know, Tennessee
just won a Tuesday game after a massive, like two weeks of COVID confusion and then a Sunday
game, which is unbelievable that they were able to pull that off.
Then Atlanta in the middle of installing a new coach, they didn't even, they weren't even able
to practice on Thursday. They somehow got a win on the road as somebody who bets on games. Like
I thought that was a huge advantage, but like, how does, does this make sense to you? Like,
I just don't understand it. Um, I, I don't know. Like the Titans played really well off a COVID issue, right?
The Patriots look like crap off their COVID problems.
I don't know, Matt.
Like, I don't know what the season is supposed to be.
Like all the norms of this season are just completely like, like, like I think norms,
like we talked about gambling norms thrown out um for the most right
now i feel like this week though we kind of got back to some of those those home favorites right
the kind of that for i mean home dogs i should say that for a while there i feel like we're moving
maybe back in the in that good direction of that of that but nonetheless this is just it's so odd
and you know we have a game with two minor football games a game tuesday and and the titans
played through this they were fine credit dude i don't say for the i'll take a second for the
titans real quick because i think it's they deserve this um listen up titans twitter yeah
well pay attention this is happening this is for titans twitter i do i i do have to take the l on
ryan tannahill i was i was wrong on tannahill he's been outstanding um and i will gladly take the l
on that again I like seeing great
players play. I don't know why people
think I don't want to see great guys play. Of course,
I like my opinion to be correct, but
sometimes it's not. It's part of the business. You're going to get
things wrong. And again, I'm wrong.
I'm wrong. He's great.
He's fantastic.
But I want to give a shout out to the coaching
staff, man, because it's
been proven now time and again
that Mike Vrabel's an outstanding football coach, right?
I know there's the whole thing with the 12 men on the field.
Yeah, that's a good, you know, but it's so funny.
I love how we can now have all these win percentage models
and they're like, yeah, it didn't really matter for the game.
That was still pretty cool.
Like, okay, it was still pretty cool.
Yeah.
It was still pretty cool.
Just the thinking about, the forward thinking of that.
Yeah, for sure.
But then he brings Arthur Smith in,
first-time offensive coordinator for the Titans.
He's now in his second year.
And the offense they designed that fits what Ryan Tannehill does best.
They do a ton of play-action pass, right?
Above 30% play-action pass.
And they keep Tannehill out of bad situations.
They put him in spots to win games,
to help lead this team down the field for scores.
Yeah, Derek Henry's doing okay.
Again, that signing, that hole was giant, okay?
A lot of people could have run through that hole.
I don't really, it doesn't matter.
But Ryan Tannehill, though, has been great.
And their coaching has been fantastic.
And I think that they're a force to be reckoned with
as we move forward.
Yeah. It feels like they have something special going on, but someone who does not have something
special is Kirk Cousins, who to go back to where this topic started, 10 picks this year, he threw
six all of last season, threw three in the first half against Atlanta, including the first play
where you texted me because we were on Minnesota. You were like, first play, Cousins picks.
It wasn't a pick six on the first play.
Somehow, despite Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen being fantastic, what is going on
with Kirk Cousins?
I'm starting to think that this guy might be cooked.
It's crazy to watch.
I tweet out that I just think Mike Zimmer has got to go eventually, right?
I mean, it just feels like...
I mean, like, I know they went to
the National Championship a couple years ago,
but, you know, someone's like,
well, they're rebuilding.
Do you really rebuild with a quarterback
making as much money as Cousins?
Like, you don't really have rebuilding seasons.
And I get they're trying to do this on the fly,
I guess, sort of,
but their offensive line did not play well the other day.
Atlanta played well in that game because it just looked bad again.
It just looked terrible.
I don't know what the remedy is, right?
They have wide receivers, have a tight end.
Other teams have bad offensive lines.
We've talked about Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert.
They have bad offensive lines, and they get the job done.
How long are we going to blame offensive lines for Cousins all the time
for not getting it done?
So I don't know what – just, dude, I couldn't believe watching that game.
I can't believe I watched the first half.
It was like, I'm out of this game.
Then I just tortured myself watching the football team try to come down
and get a two-point conversion to try to win that game there.
So it was –
Not a good Sunday.
It wasn't surprising because I just don't think Cousins can be trusted.
So back to Zimmer real quick. I know people were up in arms
about that comment, but
do you just
expect a down year?
I don't know. Maybe it was too harsh on Zimmer.
I don't think that people were
expecting them to be rebuilding.
I don't think that's right, but I think
sometimes stuff just goes wrong.
I think what's happening with Minnesota
potentially is they've sort of reached that. I like dallas had this happen to them a lot in like the 2000s
where they've like they've just they kind of missed their window i think like next year they're
supposed to be 10 million over the salary cap as they're projected that as of right now they have
seven players these seven cousins daniel hunter anthony barr riley rife th Kendricks, and Harrison Smith, they make up 60% of their cap.
Those guys were all awesome four years ago, and now I don't know if I would want any of those guys on their current contracts.
I kind of feel like that team just kind of missed their chance, and Mike Zimmer's taking the L for it.
I'm not sure it's all on him, to be totally honest.
I mean, I understand that the GM plays a role in building this team up, right?
I do agree with you.
Their window was...
When was their window, though?
Like, was it with Case Keenum?
They were going to win a title with Case Keenum?
Like, what was their window?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I mean, they've loaded up.
But, like, the fact that their defense is so bad is...
Their offensive line just hasn't been good for years.
And that's been hurting them.
Yeah.
But they've invested quite a bit in it.
I mean, what?
A first round center a year or two ago?
And right...
Yeah.
Bradbury.
Yeah.
Bradbury hasn't paid off.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, you know, I just...
Yeah.
I don't...
Maybe I was too harsh on calling for Zimmer.
But I just...
You know, I think that he is
um um i don't know something just the vibe he gives man i don't know like i just think that
when you're a defensive coach and your defense isn't good that's kind of on you obviously right
like if you're adam gaze your offense isn't good that's on adam gaze right i just i just think like
if you're a defensive coach your defense should just be really freaking good yeah they should i'm curious uh i'm i think
cousins will probably make it through the year their backup is trevor simeon which i had to look
up on sunday kind of an interesting backup i feel like if if cousins really craps the bed
we could see some trevor simeon um i don't I don't think so right I mean they pay
Cousin all that money they got to ride this through it's gonna be rough man he's got uh
he's he's locked up through 22 um well speaking of rough times I'm really curious what you make
of this one so New England double digit home favorite coming off a bye against Drew Locke
who's coming off an injury the Broncos were without
their number one receiver Sutton their number one tight end Noah Fant and their number one running
back Melvin Gordon what a week he had they New England lost outright and it never really felt
close and in addition to that they were doing all kinds of wacky stuff with Edelman throwing and
like all these weird reverses and all this crap and
meanwhile on the other in tampa rob gronkowski is back tom brady looked great his best game of the
year tough one for new england man i it they don't seem like they're uh they're the powerhouse that
uh all of us are expecting i think it's time to get pretty worried about them oh it's totally
time to get worried about them.
Yeah, look, I mean, they only allowed 18 points, right?
I mean, so the defense did give up some of the long games,
but didn't allow touchdowns.
They lost two.
Six field goals.
Like, when's the last time the Patriots lost to a team
that six field goals, right?
Dude, offensively, if you watch that game,
it was very reminiscent of 2019, right?
The way they moved the ball down the field,
their final drive to try to score a touchdown,
was two trick plays.
Two trick plays.
So the question becomes,
is it Cam Noon?
Is it Tom Brady?
Or is it everything around those two quarterbacks, right?
Because they don't have weapons.
They don't have wide receivers.
So they need to call around the NFL
to great teams that evaluate wide receivers well,
like the Steelers, like
the Chiefs.
I'm like, hey, how do I find myself a good wide receiver?
Because they have none of them.
And yes, Cam did not play well.
He came off of COVID.
I didn't expect him to play that well off of COVID, but he still didn't look down.
They just don't have weapons, Matt.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, I think that I've heard people say that they thought that Cam was a little
bit shaky because he was still coming off the COVID thing.
We'll obviously never know that.
It's very possible.
But I just like, I'm not afraid to bet against them anymore.
Like, I just don't think that they're that good.
Like I understand, you know, let's not write cam off yet.
And Gilmore had, you know, the COVID issue too.
And you know, it's, it's just one game, but, uh, they, I don't see how they make some deep
run in the playoffs unless they just completely out coach everyone the rest of the way.
And then look at their own division.
Like Buffalo didn't have a great night, but, like, Miami's not bad.
That's going to be a tough team to – I mean, they're going to have their work cut out for them
just to make the playoffs this year.
Yeah, because you look at – look, as much as the Browns played poorly,
I think the Browns are a playoff team.
You know, the Colts, who we both don't like, probably are a playoff team.
I don't know. Are they? The Titans, obviously, are are a playoff team. I don't know. Are they?
The Titans obviously are in a playoff team.
The Bills are going to make the playoffs.
The Chiefs.
The Ravens.
Yeah, I don't know the Patriots.
I mean, they're going to have to beat Buffalo at least once.
I wouldn't put it past them to beat Buffalo any times.
I mean, if Buffalo's defense is going to play like it did last night, it's a problem.
Their defense has been bad.
And we know that the Patriots defensively have played Josh Allen well,
but I just don't know if the Patriots offense has enough to get by.
Matt, they have a very specific game plan, right?
It's like run the football, play action pass with no tight end.
Play action pass is great to run.
If you have a freaking tight end, it's awesome.
They have no one to play tight end, even though I'll tell you what,on osseossi game would help yeah devon osseossi is on their
team drafted from ucla he averaged like 19 19 yards reception in college they could use him i
don't know why they're not using him he was great in college at this um so there's just a lot of
concerns in new england and i think it's time for me at least to just be like i'm i think this the belichick magic
like when we always bet on the patriots is is gone now like i can't do this anymore i'm switching
back to i'm going back to i said the other day on a different show i can't quit tom brady i'm
not quitting i'm going back to tom brady we're back in uh but, you know, New England just, man, it's rough.
That's awesome.
I love it, man.
I'm curious.
I mean, I think Tom Brady, I don't think Tom Brady would make them any better.
I don't think he would make them any worse either.
And, you know, the issue is the rest of that team.
Their personnel on the offense is terrible.
Like, if you stack them up with some of the worst teams in the league they'd probably be right there
um but it is funny to think that you know tom brady he gets to go to this whole complement
of weapons and i don't know he may have he may have at least steadied the ship there there were
some throws that cam was missing where you're just like oh my god what is this guy doing and what's
crazy is that newton used to be a must watch you must watch it because even if tom bray doesn't play well let's say in the game their defense
gonna play well they're gonna have a cool trick play they're gonna they're gonna do what mike
vrabel did right they're gonna spend 40 seconds doing something that there's like fringe in the
rule book and at the very end tom's gonna come back and lead him to a victory like i i kind of
watched that game yesterday just peeking from a distance and i turn on every now and then but like the patriots aren't a must watch team
anymore no they're really boring to watch honestly and everyone thought that they were going to have
such a fun offense with newton i mean they were fairly boring to watch last year too with edge
had tom brady they've been boring to watch forever i mean honestly they've just like they've just been
so consistent and uh you know i don't
know it's fun it's fun to watch them sort of have to go through this for the first time like for
once all these things are catching up 20 years later have a tight end how about yeah 20 years
how about tom brady though goes to tampa hockey the lightning win yeah stanley cup now the tampa
bay rays not the devil race the race world series, the Rays. World Series. On the World Series.
And we are officially,
by the way,
a Tampa Bay Rays podcast
because I hate the Dodgers
more than anything in this world.
Imagine the team you hate the most.
That's the Dodgers for me.
Washington Huskies are second.
But like the Washington Huskies,
just Oregon doesn't even
bother with them anymore, right?
But in baseball,
I'm a Giants fan.
The Dodgers have been
in three World Series
in four years. Have once in 1988, I'm a Giants fan. The Dodgers have been in three World Series in four years.
Haven't once in 1988.
We are a Tampa Bay race.
I don't know.
I think Blake Snell is still on the team.
I don't know a single other person on Tampa Bay.
I do not watch Tampa Bay play baseball.
I did not watch very much of the playoffs on the AL side.
I have no idea.
No idea.
Yeah.
Is Evan Longoria still there?
I don't know.
Well, Evan Longoria is on.
Carl Crawford?
Carl Crawford is Fred McGriff.
David Price?
Is Crime Dog and Wade Boggs still on the team?
There's a photo of my buddy sends me every now and then.
I think it's Fred McGriff,
crime dog in like an old school raised uniform from like 1997 or something.
It's just,
it's just like the,
it's the,
it's back when they do the cutoff uniforms.
You were the cutoff uniforms you used to wear.
Yeah.
And it had like that,
that devil had the,
the raise logo on it.
And it was just a,
yeah,
it was like old stingray.
Yeah.
But we are officially a Tampa Bay Rays podcast.
So I'll learn the names of the players before they play a first pitch.
No promises on my ends.
We're going to get to the, to the world series again, a bit in the,
in the end of this segment.
So let's hit the move in the line segment here.
Boom.
And there it is.
Wireless on the most reliable network nationwide.
That's cool.
But with my wireless, I get unlimited for just $30.
Impressive. But does yours have 5G included?
Of course. And my wireless saves me $400 a year.
That's because you all have Xfinity Mobile with your internet.
It's wireless so good, it keeps one-upping itself.
$30 per line per month. Taxes and fees extra.
Compares pricing of top carriers. Xfinity internet required.
Reduced speeds after 20 gigabits of usage per line. Most reliable based on root metrics, UL's report, results vary, non-endorsement.
The first question isn't an over-under.
I know that we traditionally do an over-under, but it's just a straight up gambling question.
Yes.
Yes.
So, Jeff, I was watching the Joe Flacco New York Jets, Frank Gore, the defense where Quinn and Williams actually made some plays, but they have nobody, man. And I was wondering, who would you favor between this year's Jets without Sam Darnold or the 0-16 Cleveland Browns from 2017?
Who's favorite?
Um, oh, geez. Cleveland Browns from 2017. Whose favorite?
Oh, geez.
I can give you a little bit of context here because I'm putting you on the spot.
So the Browns that year, that was Miles Garrett as a rookie.
They had Jabril Peppers.
On offense, they had Duke Johnson and Isaiah Kroll.
The problem is they were starting Deshaun Kaiser
at the beginning of the year,
but they still had Joe Thomas.
They had Manny Agba, Christian Kirksey, Jason McCourty. Like they had some players, which was so maddening at the beginning of the year, but they still had Joe Thomas. They had Manny Agba, Christian Kirksey, Jason McCourty.
Like they had some players, which was so maddening at the time.
But I think Hugh Jackson was such a turd that, you know, they just had no chance of winning
any game, even though they were kind of competitive.
But these Jets, I swear, I think they're the most depressing football team I've ever watched,
ever.
I think the 0-16 Browns would be favored. I think you're right, right? They have a Hall of Fame left ever. I think the, the own 16 Browns would be favored.
I think you're right.
Right.
They have a hall of fame left.
They have miles Garrett as a rookie,
right?
I believe.
Yes.
Yep.
Oh yeah.
They'd be.
Yeah.
I mean,
yes,
I think there would be,
I think there'd be favored.
We should,
we should,
we should,
we should ask this on,
on Twitter.
We should.
I actually am wondering if, if 0-16 Detroit Lions might be favored.
And that's not a team I even thought about.
But Calvin Johnson was on that team.
I think they would probably be favored over these Jets.
Dante Culpepper later in the year there.
I don't wish 0- 16 on my on my on my
nearest enemy like that is just a terrible way to go um uh yeah i think you're i think the jets
here i should should i put a twitter poll about this and see what people say i think so i actually
think yeah i i would be curious to know both the 2008 Lions and the 2001 is the 2017 Browns.
Dude, the Jets, I mean, Darnold might come back and help, you know, sneak a game out for them.
But they are tracking 0-16, man.
It's very possible.
I mean, the only reason they go 0-16 is like the Bills clinch in like week 17.
They just don't play anyone and the Jets is pulling out of their ass.
Yeah.
God, can you imagine if we get three 0-16 seasons?
I remember, you know, in the early mid-2000s, I just felt impossible.
Like all those teams, they would win one game.
Well, that's not great for Gabe's Jets.
Okay, so we're going to say that the Browns would be favored, and Twitter should weigh in on that too. The next one, Jeff, is an over-under. Total
Philadelphia wins this season, and I put this at five and a half. So Philadelphia, one four and one,
somehow still in play for the NFC east as the cowboys through the first quarter
here are tied zero zero with the cardinals i can't tell if philly is like the best bad team ever or
the worst okay team ever like they keep hanging around in these stupid games even though now
miles sanders and zach ertz are going to be out but they still play green bay new orleans seattle
cleveland at the
rest of this year.
So it's not looking great for them.
I just, I'm wondering, like, do you think they're good?
Like, could they get to six, nine and one and probably win the division with that?
Um, oh geez.
So you, so you haven't made, they'd be seven, nine and seven, eight and one.
Six, nine and one.
I think they could honestly. No, wait, you mean if it's wins 7, 8, and 1. 6, 9, and 1. I think they could honestly –
No, wait.
You mean if it's wins total, not wins from now.
Okay.
Dude, they're just like –
And Carson Wentz is hitting wide receivers in the hands.
They're just flat out dropping the ball.
Flat out dropping the ball.
But that Fulham guy is good, man.
That guy looks like a real guy.
I – Oh, geez.
I think under.
I think they're just, dude, they're down like they have,
they're like their fourth string right tackle,
third string right guard, seventh string left guard.
I'm on under.
You can't play with an offense, no offense aligned.
I just don't understand how this team is this injured.
Like Goddard is apparently going to maybe come back.
Ertz goes down.
Like Sanders was hurt. Now he's back. It's like everybody on this team is this injured. Like Goddard is apparently going to maybe come back. Ertz goes down. Like Sanders was hurt.
Now he's back.
It's like everybody on this team is hurt,
including Carson Wentz,
who seems like he gets crumpled
on every single play.
I just don't understand.
He's battling his ass off though, man.
He's trying his best.
He's fighting.
Yeah.
Poor guy.
I'm going to have to un-retire.
You barely might.
They're going to be looking
for O-linemen anywhere.
I could have believed that Philadelphia ended up backdooring the Ravens there.
It actually felt like they had a chance at the end of the game.
Question on going back to the Browns-Jets one.
Is Darnold the quarterback or Flacco?
Does it matter?
I mean, I guess it matters a little bit.
I still think the Browns.
People are asking this on Twitter.
That's why.
I think we should say I want to hear people's answers for both.
Like, I don't think that it would change.
Like, if you have it at Browns three with Flacco, what is it?
Browns one and a half with Darnold?
Like, I don't think he makes that much of a difference.
Yeah, I don't think it makes a difference either.
Man, tough days for the New York Jets.
The question also becomes,
do you think the Jets,
are the Jets going to be
under a double-digit dog
in any of the rest of their games?
You mean not a double-digit dog
in any of their games?
Yeah, like under, like nine points
instead of being 10.
I don't know who,
I guess if they play Jacksonville,
let me see.
So they play the Bills, the Chiefs, the Patriots, the Chargers,
the Dolphins, the Raiders, the Seahawks, the Rams.
Somehow their schedule gets worse.
Yeah, look, they have the Patriots twice, the Seahawks, the Rams,
the Chiefs, the Bills, the Browns, the Raiders, Dolphins.
This is – they're going to –
Jeff, they might have like the hardest schedule in the league the rest of the way at this point. Honestly, I think every team they're playing is over 500. Just looking at this quickly, except the Patriots, which is amazing. Yes. Yeah. The soft spot of their schedule happens, I guess, because they I mean, they've they've actually played a decent amount of good teams. Wow. They're probably going to be 10 or more in every single game man that is that is tough oh and 16 very in play uh let's move on to another team that i just can't get my wrap my head around
chicago so chicago's five and one my question is total wins this season the rest from now
the whole season nine and a half are you taking the over or the under?
I would take...
I can fill you in a bit on their schedule. I would say...
I just would say under, man.
Like, they're just...
I think they're a fraudulent five-on-one team.
I didn't look at the schedule yet.
I know that we like to surprise people with these.
They have some tough ones, Jeff.
They go at the Rams on Monday Night Football next week. Then they go Saints.ff they go at the rams on monday night football next
week then they go saints then they go at titans so that's tough they still have the packers twice
they do get minnesota under dude i under i don't think they're that they're not they're just kind
of sneaking by man i can't decide if their defense is actually kind of coming back to what we thought
they were um it's it's tough to tell tell if they're just playing kind of crappy teams
or if they're actually kind of improving and gelling a little bit
because their defense regressed so much last year,
but it seems a little bit better this year.
Yeah, their defense is great.
I just don't know if I trust the complete package.
They have to win these games 23-13, 2019.
That's the way they win games.
I could, man. I don't know. I think that they're probably going to be a playoff team. Uh, they're,
they're only going to have to get like, you know, three or four more wins in order to do that. And
the NFC is kind of a mess. Um, speaking of that, so this one, this is a little harder to track
mentally, but the question is of the top 10 teams in the NFL, how many of them are in the NFC?
Over, under, three and a half.
So to sort of paint this picture here, we're going to say that the undisputed top five, I think, are Seattle, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, KC, and Baltimore, right?
I think that's probably a fair bet.
That's the top five.
There's one NFC team in there.
Probably the Bucs are next.
I think Tampa is better than Baltimore right now,
but I'm okay with Baltimore being in there.
That's fine.
Interesting.
All right.
So those are your top six.
Then who are the next four teams,
I guess,
is the question.
So would you say that it's the Bills,
the Colts,
the Browns,
the Saints,
the Bears?
I'm curious who you think the next tier is.
So I would put like, if we're doing a tier system,
I'd put like, so I put the six.
So, because right now I think there's six teams
that can win the Super Bowl.
Seattle, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Casey, Baltimore, Tampa.
Are you with me there?
Yeah, I buy that.
So the next four teams in
would be like saints rams
for me saints and packers
i i mean tennessee well tennessee's already in the top five for tennessee we already said yep
the packers browns i don't know i can't win with a little shake i can't win with baker Tennessee? Well, Tennessee's already in the top five. Oh, Tennessee, we already said. Yep. The Packers.
Browns?
I don't know.
I can't win with Baker Mayfield.
I mean, I guess the Bills, I guess.
I don't know.
The Bills, I think, are – I mean, I just – I don't want to – the Bills are good.
I just don't want to discredit them for Allen's performance the last couple – probably the Bills then.
Yeah.
Yeah. I think they're – I don't know if dvoa has been updated yet it hasn't but
they uh there came into this week 15th they're definitely going to go down um you know look at
some of some of these teams in dvoa are so strange minnesota came in this week at number 11 i'm
curious where they net out after this week um yeah i'm curious too i mean even i mean houston minnesota had good dvoas
they did um okay let's move to let's just do our last one here so this one i think that you're
gonna maybe inflate this so if if you're an obvious over then we'll go to me and gabe so hours of the world series watched by the trio
of jeff gabe and matt total i'm setting it at 0.5 are the three of us going to watch one full hour
of the world series as a group you mean like like oh yeah oh yeah of course i'm rooting against the
dodgers i'll probably watch 10 hours of it.
You're going to watch the World Series.
You're going to sit down uninterrupted, phone in hand, fine.
You're going to sit there and watch baseball.
Yeah, it's just long.
It's so long, dude.
I watched last year the whole playoffs because my Washington Nationals,
I don't know if you heard, they won the World Series last year.
Didn't get a chance to celebrate that,
but I did watch it last year.
The idea of sitting down and watching a baseball game, Jeff,
I think I would rather watch Jets-Jaguars.
I swear to God, I think I would rather watch it.
But you're an Orioles fan?
No, I just said I'm a fucking Nationals fan. Oh, sorry, Nationals fan.
I'm sorry.
I got the Baltimore.
I don't know why I keep thinking you're a Baltimore fan.
I grew up an Orioles fan. It's acceptable. I just swear at you. So you don't watch Nationals fan. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I got the Baltimore. I don't know why I keep thinking you're a Baltimore fan for some reason. I grew up an Orioles fan.
It's acceptable.
I just swear at you.
So you didn't watch Nationals in the World Series?
No, Jeff.
I did watch the Nationals in the World Series.
I watched every game of the playoffs last year.
So why don't you –
Okay.
First of all, I would watch more of the hour if it was a team that I didn't like.
But I'm rooting against, like very heavily against the Dodgers.
I'm going to watch this game.
Games, all of them.
You're going to, so per night,
you're going to watch over one hour per night.
Yeah, unless football's on.
Okay, that's fair.
Okay, okay.
No, but look, I watched game seven,
the entire game seven to the bottom of the ninth because I didn't want to, I just couldn't watch Dodgers celebrate.
So I watched the football game and I watched the baseball on my iPad.
The whole thing.
Okay, that's fair.
I'm impressed that you're that much of a Dodgers hater, that you're willing to stick it out.
I will set the total over, I will set anything over zero, Take the under for minutes of the World Series, Gabe and I combined.
Really?
It's going to be zero.
Unless Gabe is like turning into a secret Dodgers fan and cheating on his Mets, which let's be honest.
He would have earned it.
Jets would be fine.
I'd be fine with it.
I don't know why you won't watch.
You won't watch.
It's like it's 730.
It's like early in the night, too.
You won't just tune on to see.
I think I'm just.
These are good baseball team.
I guess.
I'm a little resentful my Nationals didn't get their due this year because no one cared about baseball.
I know.
There was no parade in our stadium.
That was tough.
It did suck.
Only Washington we can win a title and not get to celebrate it.
It's brutal.
Yeah, that's.
I mean, all these teams. Lakers, akers right they won't get a chiefs chiefs
celebration got muted yeah wow that's that's right that was right or is that true yeah they they
didn't they had a parade but they didn't have like their ring ceremony as usual like they got a lot
of things short yeah yeah all right man that's all the uh silly gambling crops i have to throw at you um all
