Money fights are one of the fastest ways to turn a family reunion into family feud.
And thanks to TikTok, we now have front row seats to some truly unhinged family money drama.
So today I'm reacting to these financial faux paws to find out who's right, who's wrong, and who needs a session with Dr. John Deloney.
But before we dive into the drama, let's give a little cheek squeeze and shout out to delete me for sponsoring this channel.
Which cheek? Who's to say?
It's the face. I meant the face.
All right. Give me the drama.
I just saw a video of a woman talking about how she was going through her weekly financials, like with her husband or whatever.
And so she had her grocery list.
And every single week, she literally has to mark off what she consumes from the grocery list and what he consumes from the grocery list.
And then the things that they share together and the things that she consumes from the grocery list, she has to pay him back for it at the end of the week.
Now, I know everybody's marriage is different, but...
What?
Imagine buying a bag of oranges for the household, and you got to pay him back for the portions of the oranges that you ate?
My God.
No, no, no, no, no.
That somehow takes like Venmoing your spouse to the next level.
I don't think my marriage would survive.
If I was like, hey, Whitney, I noticed that...
You had 14 chips today and that's going to be $1.20.
You just go ahead and add that to the tab.
I would be slapped in the face.
Much better than that.
Much more cheek involved.
Nope, let me try again.
There we go.
That audio is what I was hoping for that.
Nice.
That sound.
We got there.
And yes, it hurt, but I'm brave.
My favorite part of this whole thing is the caption,
which is it's tucked in there.
My flabber is gasted because, girl, what do you mean?
Yes, that's everybody's reaction if they're grown adults.
I don't know how a marriage survives if that's how you play the game.
If everything is tit for tat and, well, you actually use the internet a little more than me this month,
so you're going to pay 60% of the internet bill.
I'm going to pay 40%.
That's worse than a roommate.
Why did you get married if you're not willing to combine your whole life together?
Right.
You share a bed.
Why can't you share a bank account?
and share the bills and just go, hey, we're both consuming all the things.
Why are we splitting this like insane people?
May that love never find me.
Agreed.
That comment sums it up.
May that love never find me.
How is this worse than just being alone?
Yeah, I'm already riled up.
I'm already riled up.
Catch these hands.
What do you mean we have to pay rent?
I'm sorry.
We just need help around here.
You never said nothing about rent before.
well now I have to I need you guys to help out
it's going to be like $800
for each of you
each
girl we pay $2,500 and worth for rent here
so you want me to do rent and a bill
well that will include the bill so we'll just scratch
the bills so the 800 will include help towards the bill
where's all this coming from because you never
have mentioned any of this before well now that he's here
this is he
this is your
Our house.
Well, he's moving in.
You never had a problem before.
Well, he's going to be the man in the house.
I'm not paying rent.
No.
I'm not paying rent.
It's not even your decision.
It's his.
You barely know him.
He's been here for like two months.
And all of a sudden, he's moving in and then you're telling us that we have to pay rent.
800 each.
This is going to be our house.
Well, he should be bringing some money.
Oh, boy.
Okay.
I don't know if this is real or not, because it seems like a video you would submit for, like, your acting class.
Like, I don't know if the tears are real.
The fact that she already had the camera rolling.
A little suspicion is all I'm saying.
Not saying this is not a real scenario.
But what I gather here is this woman now has a new man in her life.
Boyfriend, I don't know.
And now she's going, hey, this guy's moving in, and you guys are going to start paying rent.
We're all roommates now.
Everybody's chipping in.
Now, I'm not even mad at the fact that you charge your adult kids some rent.
$800 all in is not crazy in today's world.
That's very fair to pay some market rent.
And I think it is healthy for a kid to feel that level of independence,
start paying bills because that's the rest of their adult life.
But I don't like that she seemed to have sprung this on her kids out of nowhere
while bringing this new person into their household.
That whole part makes me uncomfortable, and that part is on mom.
So the concept I'm not against.
The way this is all playing out, very toxic, very dramatic.
So if you're going to do this with your kid,
obviously they should be adult kids.
Don't be charging your 12-year-old rent.
That's insane.
But if they're adults, they have jobs and they're still living at home,
totally fine to get them to pay some rent.
But make sure you let them know ahead of time.
Don't spring it on them.
Say, hey, starting September,
we're going to start charging $500 all in for rent and utilities.
And if you don't like that, totally fine.
You can go rent elsewhere.
We'd love to have you here.
No problem with you staying here.
But you're going to have to put some skin in the game.
I'm okay with that.
So this fiancé situation,
added the drama and I don't like the way mom handled it.
And I'm confused.
Did she upload this video and put her own caption of woman wants her adult daughters to pay rent as her new fiancée is moving in?
I don't know.
Get a place together and let them pay their own bills.
That's a thought.
He's unemployed and calling shots?
That's another question.
Sounds, I don't know.
I don't know the status of his employment.
It's not of my business, but it is worrisome that the most adult grown man in the situation not bringing in any money.
Math ain't math and girl move out
It's only start
Yeah, I would just get out
This is clear
It's not gonna be a good situation
For anyone
The resentment's gonna build
There's gonna only be more tension
In this household
Yeah, you weren't expecting that
On this channel
You're expecting professionalism
You ain't getting it here
I'm the mom who makes my daughter
Give me half of her paycheck
And before everybody comes from me
In the comments
It tells me I'm not supposed to take
My kids paycheck
First off I put a roof over her head
Every day
day in, day out. I put a roof over her head.
Clothes on her back, food in her stomach.
That's your job.
I don't see why on earth I shouldn't take half of her check.
Now, usually my daughter doesn't argue with me on it, and she lets me take her check every week.
But this week, she asked me if she could have a couple extra dollars for prom.
I said, no, bills are bills.
They come no matter what.
Give me half the check, basically.
And she threw this big fit.
She calls her dad, told them that I've been taking half her check.
And now there's a big problem.
And now he's saying that I'm a bad mom and this and that.
But I don't think I am.
I think I'm teaching her responsibilities.
And the real world is not easy.
I shouldn't have to pay for all my bills by myself.
She should 100% pay for half of them.
I think what she's doing is cruel and unusual punishment.
Sounds like this girl's in high school making, you know, $10 an hour trying to go to prom.
And mom is taking half of her paycheck to help cover bills.
You brought her into this world.
I feel like until 18, as the parent, it's your job to provide everything
reasonable in their life. Now, crazy stuff, sure, if they want to save up to go buy a toy,
that's different. But food in their stomach, the electric bill, you're the adult in the situation.
So, not the move. If you want to have her pay a bill to learn some responsibility, totally fine with
that. Maybe she starts paying her cell phone bill when she has a cell phone. That is reasonable,
but just taking half of every check no matter what forever, insanity. People shouldn't have kids
if they can't afford them. She's not responsible for your bills. You're a
mother, you're supposed to take care of her. Yeah, all right. I feel like I'm on the right side of history,
and that is rare for me. Appreciate that. You ever ask your husband for money, and he asked you
why you need money? The other day, I asked my husband, I said, I need $40, and he turned to me, and he said,
what do you need $40 for? And I started to respond. I started to say, well, I needed for this, that, and the
other. And then I thought, wait a minute, why do you need to know what I need $40 for?
And listen, I know that I can go to the bank, I can go to the ATM, we share a bank account,
but it's the idea that I asked him for $40 and he's like, what do you need money for?
It doesn't matter, right?
If I ask you for money, you don't question what I need money for.
It doesn't matter.
I could need it for, I don't know.
Maybe I want to carry cash in my purse.
I caught myself trying to explain myself why I needed money.
And then I said to him, listen, buddy, I'm your wife.
I ask you for money.
You need to open your wallet and empty it.
No questions needed.
I'll take things that never happen for 500, Alex.
Trebek.
The way she told the story just felt weird.
I just, I don't know.
I don't know her vibe.
I don't know what kind of accent that is.
It's all sort of just questionable.
But let's talk about the concept.
if my wife asked me for $40, would I be like, yeah, sure, what's it for?
That's a reasonable request.
We have a lot of honesty and transparency in our marriage, and I think she would just say,
oh, I wanted to have some cash on hand.
Cool, we move about our day.
What's not going to happen is it turn into a giant blow-up fight because I'm questioning
her intentions with this money.
It makes me think, what are you doing with that $40?
Are you doing something questionable?
I don't know.
Well, how crazy can you get with 40 bucks these days?
No clue.
But I think this speaks to a much deeper problem in your marriage,
which is you guys avoid money conversations
because it usually turns into a blow-up argument.
You're not on the same page with your money goals, the vision, the values,
all of that has probably never been addressed.
And it bubbles up into fights like this.
So what's way more fun is budgeting with your spouse,
budgeting for the fun money,
so that George has his fun money,
Whitney has her fun money, and it gets spent.
We both have debit cards attached to the same checking account,
and we track it to those categories, and no questions are asked.
It's that simple.
So life can be so much better when you combine your life,
combine your money, combine into one checking account,
and then you have to wonder, who's doing what with what money?
I don't trust them.
It's all about trust, baby.
It's all about trust.
OMG, you look beautiful.
Your makeup and hair is on point.
All right, guys, guys.
Come on.
Lady, you're absolutely right.
Plus, your hair and makeup is amazing.
So all I need is better hair and makeup,
and then you guys would agree with whatever I say,
even if it's unhinged?
Cool, good to know.
Let's face it.
We can't always avoid family drama,
but we can't avoid making bad financial decisions.
And that's why I useprivacy.com,
a sponsor of today's video.
Every time you shop online,
you're trusting another website
with your debit card information.
And that can leave you vulnerable
to data breaches and unauthorized charges.
Well, privacy protects you
by creating a unique card number for every merchant you shop with
so that your real debit card number is never shared.
Even better, privacy card is locked to a single merchant
with set spending limits and time limits.
You can also pause or close cards at any time.
And because you're a fan of this channel,
you'll get a $5 credit just for showing up.
So head to privacy.com slash George to get the deal.
And now that you've got your spending on lock,
let's talk about saving.
A great place to save your money is with Fairwin's Credit Union,
another sponsor of today's video.
Fairwinds offers savings of 3% or more
on their high-yield savings accounts.
Most other banks, less than half a percent.
So if you've got 20 grand saved,
you might get 70 bucks a year with the other banks.
But at 3% or more with Fairwinds,
that's over $600 a year.
That's pretty incredible.
And with the Fairwind Smart bundle,
you'll get the high-yield savings account,
a no-feet checking account,
and the Ramsey-themed debit card
that says, dead as normal, be weird,
so you can flaunt it out there
and have some conversation starters.
So make the switch to a bank
that actually wants to help you win with money
by going to fairwins.org slash Ramsey.
My husband knew I was bad with money when we said I do, which is why I suggested he gave me a monthly splluence.
So let's get into the details.
Just love nosy people.
Question number one.
What is the monthly splalance deposit?
This is going to be different for everybody.
Mine is $300.
That is the base rate, which means it doesn't change unless it's increasing.
I'm talking about add-ons, bonuses.
Keep it simple.
I have mine broken down into two tiers.
I want to make sure when you're introducing a new plan, you're not long-wending.
I want to lose them.
I have mine broken down into sweets and spoils.
Sweets are $15.
Spoils are $25 each. So if I did two sweets for the month, that's $30. I like to think of the
sweets as like thoughtful things, uninterrupted time to relax, sending him multiple affirmations
through little love notes. These are small. Things that don't require much. Which brings me to
spoils. Could be a massage of his choice. Not a quick shoulder massage, y'all. Full body massage.
My back, legs, feet, toes, earlobes. Upgrading some of the things that he uses on the daily.
A facial, maybe you plan to date now. Some of y'all thought I was selling it. I think I
I think I'm done. This entire energy. It's not for me. That may be for someone. I don't know who.
If you're into really fuzzy everything. So if I did too sweet. Then maybe you'll enjoy this video.
I think she's a theater kid who never made it, is what I'm saying. But good for her for creating
this new word called splluence. Probably one of the worst name things of all time. But the idea of
giving your spouse an allowance should be offensive to all people groups. Okay? My wife,
does not produce an income for our family. What she does for our family is priceless. I couldn't put a price on it.
So what do I do? She gets to spend money in the budget for her. She doesn't have to earn it. This is not works based. This is faith-based.
I have faith that she is doing the most for our family and she has faith that I'm working hard for the money so that we can provide for the family.
That's called trust. Okay. And again, I'm not here to do all the evangelism, but works-based.
is toxic. It does not end well when you have to do a bunch of things to earn a bunch of money
to get the allowance, to keep the allowance, to increase the allowance, to go, can I more money,
please? That's an embarrassment to marriage. All right, that's not the covenant you signed up for.
That is not unity. That is basically just having an extra child to deal with. And so I think
it's disrespectful to both parties to have a splluence. That's my hot take. And does she invoice him?
How do these add-ons work? Does he place an order? And he's like, yeah, this must
I'd like one sweet and two spoils, please.
Is there a drive-through option?
I'll give her this.
It's creative, but some of the most creative things are also the most stupid.
Please tell me nobody's co-signing this.
Why I just seen you on my strange addiction?
Was she on my strange addiction?
That explains so much.
She is strange.
Girl, that's skin glowing.
Things no one will ever say to me for 500, Alex.
The quickest way to fall out financially is helping your family.
and thinking with your heart and not your mind.
And I know that by experience,
I'm not just saying that.
When I first started out and started to build my credit,
I was doing great because I was just concerned with myself.
But then I started to try to bail people out,
literally and figuratively putting their bail on my credit card.
And, yeah, everything, I just lost, I just got off track after that.
So you have to let your family go to God about their problems.
If they have financial issues, if they need to be bailed out of jail,
you just know that they're going to figure it out.
Don't try to be the one to help them out with everything
because that is the quickest way that you will fall out financially.
I know by experience.
Please take my word.
Don't use your credit card to help nobody out.
Don't put nobody on your,
don't sign no car for nobody.
Don't do it.
You have to be selfish because at the end of the day,
when you get all this credit card there,
ain't nobody going to be trying to help you but you, period.
Well said.
It never ends well to bail someone out financially.
Usually it just leads to more bailouts.
So it becomes Bank of George because they know, well, he bailed me out last time.
And I didn't change my behavior.
I used more stupid stuff knowing that he'll probably bail me out.
So this is a never-ends-well scenario.
It also destroys the relationship.
Because as soon as you give someone money with the expectation that they are going to pay it back,
it is a borrower and lender situation.
All right?
And we know this biblically.
The borrower is slave to the lender.
Proverbs 227. Not a good relationship to have, especially with your own family.
All right. So if you want to give money for like a one-time situation to help someone out,
I'm all for that. I love being generous. But when it becomes enabling or entitlement,
that's where you've got to go, I went too far. And so the easiest way to avoid that,
never lend anyone money. Never co-sign for anything. Because there's a reason they need a cosigner.
Even the banks and lenders are like, who, I'm not touching this with a 10-foot pole,
unless someone else more responsible is involved.
And that should be a red flag
that they're probably not going to make on-time payments
for the rest of their life,
and it's going to be on you.
And especially don't go into debt for someone else
like she was doing,
taking on debt on her credit card balance
in order to help bail someone out.
As she said, sometimes literally, like out of jail.
Don't love any of that.
And the average interest rate on credit card accounts
is now 22.83%,
which means it's going to be real hard to climb out of that
while that balance is growing.
In credit card debt in general, it's at $1.25 trillion.
So no matter who it's for, you or someone else, avoid using the credit card.
Because we're $0 in debit card debt as a nation, and I want to keep it that way.
And it's why I don't even own a credit card.
So no one can ask me to go into debt for them.
And honestly, nobody asks me for money because they know what the answer is going to be.
No!
Not doing it.
Unless it's my daughter, and I'll buy her a horse.
My horse, I mean bluey, bouncy house.
Speaking of which, here's a little girl.
Let's see what she has to say.
Did Daddy give you all this or did you take it?
Take it?
Yeah.
Does he know that you have it?
No.
He didn't see it.
Oh my gosh, so cute.
One.
How many you got?
One.
Two, three.
Four!
This is all of yours.
Thank you.
Aww.
Yeah.
What?
Where did you find there?
They're my bed.
Where I came from.
Hey, here, coming again.
What does she have?
Oh, she got more money.
This man's getting robbed.
We're going to use it and go anywhere we want.
That's good.
Okay, that's the cutest thing I've seen today.
Can we get more of this at my React videos?
This is adorable.
And here's the best part.
The order was Playground, followed by Italy, followed by dog playground.
Love it. You know what? We'll do the first and last. How about that?
If Daddy doesn't notice, then it's hers fair and square. That's true. A good reminder. Pay attention to your money, okay?
Dad, this is on you. Also, the reason I don't have $100 bills laying around the house. Can't risk it with a toddler perusing.
Just announced the new Heist Queen in the Ocean's 11 franchise. Boom. She's so happy to be sharing it with her mama.
Love that she's put going to Italy and her plans. This girl's got taste. She's got culture.
And again, she's a great pickpocker.
So watch out for her.
If I ever see you, I know where you're coming.
I know what you're coming for.
That was really cute.
Thank you guys.
I needed a win today.
Nice palette cleanser there.
Well, as you guys all know, producer Alex surprises me with a final video.
And he wants to know this.
This is all I know about this video.
He said, would you shoot a Millionaires in Cars episode from this vehicle?
Let's find out.
What?
Uh-uh.
Why is this frightening?
What?
What?
What?
What?
And how he's going to
14th of June
So,
the most
the most
the event
in Russia.
Not
Let's go
It's got
It's scary.
Is he Russian?
Ukrainian?
I don't know.
Czech Republic?
I don't know.
But the way it waddled
robotically but also in a
sort of a human fashion,
so frightening.
But my biggest question,
why is the trunk open?
Dunk open. Never addresses that issue.
Okay, so it clearly has no engine. It has wheels on the front and then it's mechanically being pushed on the back.
Would I do a Millionaires and Cars on this? If the audio guys could handle that noise, they could figure it out.
I would do it. I'm not opposed to it. I am scared of heights though.
So we can just take it down a notch. Maybe just one story lower would be helpful for me.
Because the other part is I don't know how to get in. Like, do you need a ladder to climb in? He never shows
getting in or out.
That's quite the drop.
I think I've had enough internet for today.
