The average family of four goes through a roll of toilet paper every single day.
And no one bats an eyelash when they thoughtlessly buy another roll.
And that's exactly what Big TP wants.
Mindless consumers wiping without thought.
So today we're doing a takedown of Big TP so that you don't get ripped off any longer.
I'll be investigating which brands are worth the money and which ones are nothing more than a marketing gimmick designed to take advantage of you.
Looking at you, Sharman, Super Mega.
What does that even mean and what five-year-old named you?
Super Mega!
Where do you go from there?
Ultra super mega!
Don't get any ideas!
Alright, it's time to see which toilet paper brand is number one for your number two.
And my number one, as always, delete me for sponsoring this channel.
I'm sorry you had to be a part of this.
All right, so I'm going to rank each toilet paper brand on three separate criteria.
The first is cost per 100 sheets, an objective measure of how much TP you're getting for your money.
The other two, softness and strength.
Now, I'm going to give each roll a ranking out of nine in both categories, so a great price.
is going to be a nine out of nine.
Great softness, nine out of nine.
Strength, nine out of nine.
And at the end of the video, I'll give you my scientific results
to give you the best bang for your butt.
Alright, first things first, we need some toilet paper.
And to keep it fair, I want to go to a store
that you can find in almost any neck of the woods.
So let's head to Walmart.
I'm here at Wally World.
We're getting nine different kinds of toilet paper to test out.
And we're going to start with the great value soft and strong,
strong. Let's see how it holds up against the name brands. And then you got to go quilted
northern. You know, I've never been a quilted northern guy, but I'm quilted northern curious.
Charmin Ultra Strong. Let's go with one of these. Charmin Ultra Soft is next. I think we got to
compare the two, because these are two of the most popular ones. Charmin essentials, this is, I guess
they're like lower tier brand. If you're on a budget, but you still want the Charmin brand,
Let's try one of those.
All right, then we got AngelSoft.
This whole episode's a ploy for me to just get toilet paper for the house.
This is great.
Okay, I'm going to do one of these.
And then finally, we have this, the saddest generic brand.
I mean, you can see through the packaging how sad this toilet paper.
I wouldn't give this to my worst enemy.
I think this is what they have in Guantanamo Bay is what they're serving up over there.
Let's try this one.
At 94 cents for four rolls.
Let's find out.
I understand toilet paper will vary in price depending on store and location and the higher
the quantity in the package, generally the cheaper it gets per roll.
Plus, you've got to factor in the plies here.
All right, one ply, don't put that near me.
I wouldn't give that to my worst enemy.
We got a few of those in the bunch today.
So for today, we'll just focus on how much we paid for these rolls at the store.
And the first one we're going to look at is Angel Soft.
You throw the word angel in there, it better be soft.
All right, so this package comes with four mega rolls for a total of $3.97.
So you're talking a dollar per roll.
The cost per 100 sheets is, wait for it, drum roll please, 31 cents.
Is that good? Is that bad? We'll find out.
First up, let's do the softness test.
And again, I'm ranking these zero to nine.
Little rough. It kind of, it's giving like hotel toilet paper.
Like, not the word.
It's not a great hotel.
I'm going to go like Lakinta.
Middle of the road.
You could do worse.
You could do better.
Let's get some sheets on here.
You really got to tell once you start unfurling it.
It isn't bad.
I'll say that.
Let me do this test.
This is scientific.
All right.
I'm going to give this one.
I'm going to give it a five out of nine.
All right.
So for the strength test, I'm going to use my little dropper here.
And we chose a blue dye so you can really see it.
I'm going to do three drops and then add quarters until it rips through.
That's going to be our strength test.
And I guess a lot of quarters means it's very strong.
That'll be close to a nine.
And if it breaks on the first quarter, it's going to be close to zero.
All right.
That's three drops.
Let's add our quarters.
Ooh.
Try to do it gently.
Oh.
It's just going to hit the table probably.
It's not going to break through.
Oh!
Four quarters.
You know what?
I guess I'll give that a four out of nine.
one point per quarter?
Again, I'm not a scientist.
I'm a social scientist.
So for price, we had a five.
For softness, we had it at a five.
For strength, we had it at a four.
That gives us a total of 14 points.
Let's see who can beat that.
All right, next on our list, let's go with this bad boy.
Arguably, the worst one, just by looking at it.
Look how wimpy these rolls are.
What are these?
Is this a role for a baby?
This is crazy. It was only 97 cents though, to be fair, which gives it a great cost per 100 sheets rating of 16 cents per 100 sheets.
And that will give it a score of 8 on price. Good price. Okay, let's move on to softness.
Not bad considering how cheap they are. I actually expected worse. And it is two-ply. So they didn't skimp on that. They could have gone one-ply.
It's a little rough for my liking.
Yeah, that's rough.
I'm going to give this a two for softness.
Not great.
Not great at all.
All right, on to strength.
All right, here we go.
We're doing three drops.
Let me get in the middle of a sheet here to keep things fair.
One, two, three.
All right.
And let's get our quarters out.
And one quarter.
Two quarter.
There you have it.
Oh, we got some...
The toilet paper got stuck to the quarter.
That's disgusting.
Mine is 10 points.
All right, so two out of nine for strength.
So far, not great for this bad boy.
All right, so we had an eight for price, because they are cheap.
Then we had a two for softness, a two for strength for a total of 12 points.
That currently puts it in last place.
Let's see if we can do better.
All right, next one to test will be...
Quilted Northern.
All right, Quilted Northern, this one has six mega rolls for $6.98.
Not too bad, but the price per 100 sheets, not great.
At 46 cents per 100 sheets.
Because as you can see here, it comes with 255 three-ply sheets per roll.
I feel like they deserve a bonus for three-ply.
They really went hard on the paint on the ply, which I appreciate.
All right, so they're going to get a three out of nine on price because it's our third.
most expensive per 100 sheets.
Oh, boy.
Wish you guys could feel this at home.
This is luxury.
Oh my gosh.
I'm going to go eight out of nine.
I don't want to risk it with nine out of nine without seeing my other options.
But this is really high quality.
It feels nice.
The three-ply almost feels like too much.
Like it's kind of coming apart, which is not great.
But A for effort on that one.
Okay.
Really nice, guys.
Nice work if you're watching, the good folks that quilted Northern.
Thank you, George.
All right, let's move on to strength.
That's...
Oh!
Let me tell you, the bounce on that?
Bounce mode, engage.
I'm elated by this.
All right, here we go.
Three drops.
One, two, three.
All right?
I'm gonna grab a bunch of quarters for this one.
I'm feeling pretty confident.
All right.
One quarter.
Two quarter.
Uh-oh.
Three, four.
quarter, four quarter, five quarter, six quarter, seven quarter, eight quarters, nine quarters,
ten quarters, I mean, guys, we're hitting desk, 11 quarters. That's a nine out of nine.
Oh, no. I had to use my own force, which is a lot of force, I might add, just to break this one.
Let's count up the totals here.
It got a three out of nine on price because it is on the priceier side.
It knows its worth.
We had eight out of nine for softness, nine out of nine for strength.
That gives it a whopping total of 20 points on the very official Camel TP scoring system.
Next up, Charmin Essentials.
And let me tell you, in this case, you're just going for the essentials.
Nothing more.
This is a one-ply Charmin.
I didn't even know Charmin made a one-ply, but they're getting in the game.
They claim that it's big on strength, small on cost.
Let me be the judge, not your marketing team.
Okay.
Six rolls for $4.98.
Decent price, but remember, it's one-ply.
That puts it at 19 cents per 100 sheets, which puts it in a pretty good place for cost.
That's seven out of nine.
It's the third least expensive on our list, so seven out of nine for price.
Let's move on to softness.
Okay, actually, decent softness.
Definitely middle of the road.
This might be like a best Western type quality.
Maybe a Hampton Inn, but I feel like Hampton Inn, they've upgraded.
But again, one plight, still a stronger ply.
Like I'm doing a...
Ooh, you can see the particles there.
I don't think I should breathe that in.
I'm going to give this one six out of nine for softness.
All right, let's test out the strength.
We're going three drops.
Two and a three.
All right.
Let's get these quarters on there.
One, two, five, six, seven, eight.
That's a nineer.
Nineer.
That's a nineer, my friends.
That's pretty impressive.
For the essentials brand, I take it back, Charmin.
When you said strong, you meant every word.
This one actually delivered on the promise.
I'm pretty impressed for a one ply to hold up like that.
That takes some chutzpah, as they say.
All right, let's add up the totals here.
Charmin Essentials, 19 cents per 100 sheets.
That puts it out a seven out of nine for price.
The softness was a six out of nine.
Strength with is nine out of nine.
That's a 22, baby.
That's currently the top contender based on all the criteria.
Way to go, Charmin.
All right, next up, let's go for Wally World's Own.
great value soft and strong, a premium bath tissue, if you will.
Oh.
12 mega rolls coming in at 998, so less than a dollar per roll.
That puts it at 22 cents per 100 sheets, which gets it into fourth least expensive.
So that's going to be a six out of nine on the score there.
Let's see how soft it is.
You're claiming to be soft and strong.
Not impressed. This one feels less soft than the Charmin Essentials.
I don't know. This one just feels dainty.
I'm gonna go four out of nine for softness.
It's not for me.
Yeah, it's not getting any better.
The sides are actually nice and soft.
Once you get to the actual surface, less impressive.
Alright, strength.
Three drops...
Right there.
And let's start stacking.
We made it to two quarters.
So it's not soft, it's not strong.
What good qualities do you have?
What do you bring into the table in this relationship?
Where is your great value?
So that's a two.
We made it two quarters without breaking.
The third one completely broke it, so I'm not going to count that one.
That puts it at a six out of nine on price, decent,
a four out of nine for softness, and a two out of nine
for strength giving us a total of 12 points,
which I believe,
Makes it tie for last place right now.
Be gone!
We've got plenty more toilet paper to go,
but you know it's more personal than your trips to the porcelain throne?

All right, next up,
this is considered
creme de la creme by a lot of people.
So let's see if Charmin Ultrasoft
holds up.
This is nine mega rolls,
which is 36 regular rolls.
Sure.
That comes out too.
$11.94. So this one's well over a dollar per roll and at, they tell you how many sheets,
208 two-ply sheets per roll. That means it is a whopping 64 cents per 100 sheets, which puts it at the
most expensive out of this list. So that's going to get a one out of nine on price.
Let's move on to softness.
Guys, this one's taking the cake. I'm glad.
I saved my nine out of nine because this one is this is something special. Like I feel like I could
cry into this. It's that soft. Not that I cry often, but when I do, Charmin. The Charmin's done its job,
Charming. All right, nine out of nine for softness. It's very soft. Now, what I don't like is how it's
almost too soft and like just a lot of pilly material kind of comes off of it. So I don't love that.
But nine out of nine for softness. All right, let's go to strength. All right, Proctor, and
gamble. Let's see what you're made of. All right, let's find the middle of the sheet here.
That's one, two, three. Start stacking that. I feel like this one's going to go a long way.
One, two, three, six, seven, eight, ten. That did it. Yeah. That's a nine out of nine. I know. You didn't want it to be true, but it gets
the highest score on strength and the highest score on softness.
So let's see where that puts us for our final totals.
Again, it's one out of nine on prices.
It is the most expensive on the list,
but it's a nine out of nine on the other categories for softness and strength,
giving a total score of 19 points,
which currently puts it in third place.
Well done.
All right, last but not least, my personal favorite.
Charmin Ultra Strong versus Ultra Soft.
This one, again, knows its worth.
It is the second most expensive after Ultrasoft coming in at $7.97 for six mega rolls at Walmart.
That brings it to a total of 60 cents per 100 sheets.
So that's going to get a two out of nine on price because it is up there.
All right, let's move on to softness.
I wouldn't say it has on face value.
It's not like plush.
But as far as the quality of it, it's still a very soft toilet paper.
I'm going to go 7 out of 9 on the softness here.
Seven out of 9 for this one.
It's edging up, maybe 7.5.
I'll give it a 7.5.
We're doing halves now.
My rules.
Let's go for strength.
One, two, three.
Let's start stacking.
I think this one's got to be a 9 out of 9.
Oh, look at that.
You can tell in the first quarter how this is going to go.
Six.
Ten.
I mean, that's definitely the most height we've seen from this.
many quarters. So I can't give a bonus points because that's illegal, but it's definitely a
nine out of nine. That gives it a grand total. We got two out of nine for price, seven and a half
out of nine on softness, nine out of nine for strength, a grand total of 18.5. It was a tight one,
but I don't think you're going to make it, bud. All right, what did we learn today? I learned a lot
about toilet paper, to be honest, but I also learned that Charmin Essential Strong,
is the winner with 22 points.
So that one is officially the best bang for your butt.
So in all seriousness, there's some things that we learned today.
Marketing can be a whole lot of hype.
People can put pretty much anything on a package to convince you to buy it.
And the other thing is, brand association.
Some people just buy the same toilet paper because it's what they had growing up
and they never actually think about the cost of it long term.
And it can add up.
We're talking hundreds of dollars a year for the average family
in toilet paper. So no matter what it is, it could be toilet paper, it could be something
much more important, although toilet paper is up there with importance, because without it,
you're stuck. Remember COVID? Remember that? You had to bring that up, didn't you?
You were stuck with great value brand. That's if you were lucky. You might be stuck with a bathroom
tissue. So always be a smart spender. Be thinking about how the marketing is affecting you,
what they're trying to do, the placement on the shelves, the price per ounce, the price per 100
sheets, the price per unit, it all matters. You don't have to go down rabbit holes and start
to get paranoid pulling out your calculator at the store, but it never hurts to crunch the numbers
to see if you're actually getting the bang for your buck because you work hard for that money.
