Don't call it a comeback, but I'm back here in Nashville at CMA Fest,
the biggest country music festival in the country,
and I'm here to harass country music fans about their truck payments
and see just how honest they will be.
So before we get to it, shout out to delete me for sponsoring the chaos,
and with that, let's get to it.
What is your truck payment?
I don't have a truck.
What do you got?
A Honda. Passport.
Oh, that's nice. What's the year?
Maybe 2021. I'm not sure.
It's paid off, though.
Oh, way to go.
Was that from the get-go? It was paid in Canada?
or did you have a loan and paid it off?
No, I had a loan.
Okay.
How'd you pay it off?
I paid extra payments.
Working my .
There we go.
That's the truth.
You got any other dead?
No.
That's it.
That was just the car loan and that's gone.
Just the hotel I charge just now for a CIPA best.
A hotel?
On a credit card?
Yes.
But I had a Facebook yard sale before I came.
That's not making me feel better.
You did a Facebook yard sale to pay off the credit card bill?
I have stories and stories, days for days.
Yes.
Are you with her?
I have her daughter.
Does the Apple?
Does the apple fall far from the tree?
Yes.
I sell her stuff on.
Wait, no, it doesn't fall far.
What does that mean?
It's still on the tree.
No, I sell her stuff on Facebook yard,
sell for her and then then more her the money.
What do you sell on Facebook?
Anything.
Shoes, clothes.
So you're buying it, she's selling it.
I usually buy it for her and then sell it
and then give her the money back for it pretty much out.
Wouldn't you avoid all this just by not buying it
and hanging on to the money?
I got a furnish house.
No, because then if you wear it once,
you can't wear it again if you post it on Instagram.
Oh, I forgot about that rule.
I wear my shit more than once.
That's constitutional.
They made an amendment that you can't do that.
I sell random stuff like puzzles, rugs, mirrors.
Where are you getting puzzles and rugs and mirrors from?
From my house.
Just random stuff in your house, like don't need that anymore.
All that paper you may.
Then you go buy more of it to then go sell more of it.
Yeah.
It's an infinite money loop is what you created.
I'm not doing that.
No, I'm not doing that. I'm saying my new motto, less is more.
Minimalism.
Yeah.
I love that. Okay. Do you have a car payment?
Yeah.
You had to think about it. What kind of car is this? You're making model.
I thought you were going to ask you about my truck, but I don't have a truck.
So then you said car and then not...
You didn't seem like a truck girl.
What if I was?
And I'd be mistaken.
Okay.
I'd be happy to be wrong.
My car payment is like $3.60 a month.
Okay.
But I paid off in December.
Oh, nice. So a small loan balance left? What's left on there?
Around $3,000.
Oh, you know more than she does.
Because her bill will get sent to my house.
No?
What do you mean to get sent to your house?
My paper bill gets sent to my house, because I still use, like, stamps and stuff, but she pays it on her phone.
Wow.
So you get the paper bill, but you're paying the payment off your phone.
Okay, what's the year making model?
2018 Volkswagen Volkswagen Teguan.
Oh, nice.
That's a nice car.
Gunner.
Tugger was my first car.
Oh, wow.
Gunner's the X.
Okay, we don't talk about Gunner.
We don't talk about Bruno.
We don't talk about Gunner.
Okay.
How about this?
Are either of y'all investing right now?
No.
I have an acorns account.
Is that investing?
Oh.
You know, are you rounding your spare change is being rounded up?
How much is in there now?
Can you show us?
No, but I brought a whole bank envelope full of cash that I accidentally pulled out at the gas station the other day.
I need to invest it.
Accidentally?
How much is in the envelope?
What's not on me?
So about $700.
Okay, that needs to be invested.
How long have you been using acorns?
Probably like a month and a half.
That's pretty good, though.
Right? How do I see?
It spends a lot because it's just rounding up every purchase and do investments, right?
25 weekly.
So how many months is that?
I'm not doing the math.
I'm too scared.
Well, every four months would you get $100.
So you're talking over a year.
Four is 100.
So I've had it for like three months now.
Okay.
Oh, $25 a week is what you're saying?
So $100 a month?
Yeah.
Thereabouts.
Yeah, so about three months.
Math is hard.
Well, here's my, can I give you unsolicited advice?
Sure.
I think you can do better than the Acorns app.
Wait, is this what this is to y'all get us invest their money in something?
It's like a sales pitch.
Yeah, this is an MLM.
I have essential oils.
We had a van over there.
No, we're not going viral.
I'm here to try to educate the masses.
Get them out of debt.
Help them build wealth.
I do have some cash that I made from the Facebook yard sale that.
I probably do need them back.
Do you have anything in retirement?
Yeah.
Okay.
So you're still working and you're investing through your job?
Yeah.
Okay, that's good.
Do you know what kind of account this is?
Well, hey, y'all are a great time.
Enjoy CMA Fest.
Give me a business card.
Keep investing.
Do you think I have a business card?
What a...
Just Google me.
Okay.
I'll do that.
What's your name?
It was nice seeing y'all.
George Camel on YouTube.
Subscribe.
Do you have YouTube as well?
No.
TikTok famous.
I'm not TikTok famous.
We want to be, though.
I think mom will get you there.
This is a...
Yeah, I think you'll get her a TikTok.
Honestly, I can't work...
She doesn't know how to use it.
I'm trying to teach her.
You film her and you all make the TikTok.
You're good at it.
That's what makes it great.
The worse you are, the more views you get.
No offense.
No, I really told her.
Cheers.
What is your truck payment?
I don't have a truck.
We have?
I got a minus a six.
You got a payment on it?
Yeah, unfortunately.
What's the car payment on that?
399-83.
They wanted to keep it on it.
Did you go in there going,
I got a standard 400 guys?
Yeah, unfortunately.
They got you there.
Man, what's the loan balance?
Sub-6,000 at this point.
Okay.
Yeah.
So we're getting there.
How much longer do you think until?
until it's paid off. You putting extra payments on it or are you just kind of riding riding it out?
In the end of the year, yeah. Hopefully by the end of the year paying college out of pockets,
expensive. Oh wow, here in school too. What are you studying? Nursing. Nice. Fantastic. All right,
what's your car payment? It's $0. Fantastic. What do you drive? A Buick-on-Cour GX.
Oh, that's pretty fancy. What year is it?
Uh, 2020. Oh, that is pretty nice. How'd you do this? How do you have no car payment?
I bought it used and I paid it in cash. Saved up. Okay.
Can I ask what it cost in cash?
Well, it's a rebuilt title, so it was 12-9.
Wonderful.
Okay.
And are you guys investing currently?
Yeah.
How much are you investing?
I have a Roth that I try to max out every year, and then I also, I work at U of them,
and they take 5% of my gross income and then match a 2 to 1 and a 401.
Wow, nice.
You know your stuff.
How much are you investing per month, if at all?
I put 4% into a 401k, and my work matches.
2%. Fantastic. And do you have any other debt? No. No debt whatsoever. And do you have any
other debt outside of the car payment? I got $4,000 in school loans. Okay. And you're trying to
cash flow the restaurant avoid more school debt? That's the goal? So I pay the interest on that
annually. You want me to crunch some numbers with you and see what this car payment can turn into?
I'd love it. Have you done the numbers on this? Yes, I have. You have? What this car payment
is costing you or what? Just what this car payment has cost to me and if I could actually roll it into a
Roth. So how much do you think that is over time? Well, it's 4,800 a year. Obviously, by the time
I'm 65, the early 20s numbers are important. I'm 22. So that's where it would be the difference
between 1.5 million and 6 million. Dude, so you know, you've done the math. You've been thinking,
this is living rent-free in your head. One of my buddies, Greg Don Browski's a huge Dave Ramsey fan,
and so he crunched the numbers with me back in February, and it's a painful experience.
a friend who be crunching. And Greg is that friend. Thank you, Greg. Well, I'll tell you this. At
22, every dollar you invest right now will turn into 70 plus dollars at 65. Is that not mind-boggling?
It's absolutely insane, especially most people don't know. Yeah. And if you wait until you're 50 to put
that dollar in, it turns into $2.50 instead of $70. That's pretty wild. And so it's amazing
that you guys are getting this early. I'm proud of you guys for investing. Staying debt-free,
becoming debt-free. Keep it up.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
What is your truck payment?
Truck?
Yeah.
That's a her question.
That's a hurt.
Do you have a car?
I have a car payment.
I'm sure I do.
You look, does she pay your car payment?
Okay, what's the year-making model of this vehicle?
A 2025 Genesis.
Okay, this is a, that's like a $70,000 car, right?
I guess.
What's the car payment?
Do you even know?
No idea.
You're just happy to be.
driving it. Yes, I'm just grateful. Okay, and you are the enabler here. Yes, I am the enabler.
I want to know what a 2025 Genesis costs in today's day and age. Was I close? I mean, maybe.
What's the car payment on that? There's not one. It's paid for? Yes. You acted like there was a big
old payment that you weren't paying. I don't really have to know all the details. Okay, so was this like a gift for her?
Yes, yes. Okay, that's 16th birthday gift. That's a very nice gift. And you're not. And you're not really have to
and you paid in cash.
Most people can't do that.
It's going to be a money interview.
Oh, this is all it is.
You think I know anything about country music?
Look at me.
I look like Mr. Rogers and a Muppet had a baby.
Don't laugh.
Okay, what are you driving?
Oops, sorry.
A range.
Don't be embarrassed.
Listen, you're doing great.
Everyone wants to be you one day, okay?
We want to know how you got there.
A range rover.
Okay, what year is that?
26.
Which one is it?
I don't know my range rover is very well,
but?
It's a nice.
It's a black one.
It's a black rangerover.
And is that one paid for, too?
Yes.
Heck yeah.
Okay, you better be in the running.
What are you driving?
A rangerover as well.
Is it matching?
No, this isn't my mom.
Well, I figure she's buying it for, can you buy me one at this point?
So you're driving a range rover as well.
What year is it?
It's older.
I don't know.
I didn't buy it, but it's older.
Who bought it?
Do you steal it?
My dad.
Okay, so dad bought it.
Do you know the car payment or if it's paid off?
I can't tell you.
I don't know.
So if there is a payment, he's paying it.
You're not involved in this transaction.
You're simply an innocent driver.
I just drive.
You just drive.
Okay, that's fantastic.
Do any of you have any debt at this point then?
I mean, sure.
We all, I mean, they don't.
They don't.
That's good at least.
We have a mortgage.
It sounds like you helped them avoid it.
They get for now, but they'll have to have their own debt later.
Okay, so you get one really nice car,
and then the next one's going to suck because you're going to have to pay for it.
Yeah, it sounds like it.
Here's the problem I see, and tell me if I'm wrong, Mom.
She can never drive a worse car ever again in her life.
Sure she can.
She won't, though.
She's used to ventilated seats.
First, I drove a worser car.
Worse? Worse? Worse her?
Worse her car.
So you're going to save up and pay cash for your next car somehow?
I'm going to try.
A for effort.
What are you in for work?
I work at a marina.
Oh, nice.
Okay, are you going to school?
What do?
I'm in high school.
Okay.
Fantastic. How about you? I'm also in high school. Okay, what are your goals for wealth building?
Do you have any aspirations? Yeah, I want to be a dermatologist.
Fantastic. Okay, great skin. Love it. How about you? I honestly don't know.
Still figuring it out. And mom, are you working right now? Yes, we own a business.
Fantastic. What kind of business is it? Real estate business, signature properties.
Okay, so if you want to make the big bucks, real estate's a great avenue to go down, if you want to be paying cash for luxury cars.
If you work really hard. Work hard over long.
period of time, you can save up and pay cash for this stuff.
Yes.
Why were you so intentional to pay cash for the cars versus taking out a loan like most of America?
I don't like debt.
That's pretty rare for someone in real estate. I'm actually impressed.
No, we've been doing it for a long time.
So do you do your real estate in cash or do you do that with debt?
Well, we own the company. So we have broker. I mean, we're the broker of the company.
And so we have agents and we have a management company.
Oh, fantastic. You're not buying up real estate.
You're the agents and brokers?
Correct.
Okay, not like investment properties.
Yeah, we do have investment properties as well.
Fantastic.
Do you want to be like mom when you grow up?
Yes.
Ballin on a budget.
Well, it was so fun talking with you guys.
Enjoy your wonderful vehicles.
So it was really nice.
Thank you.
Take me for a ride sometime.
Confession time.

Now back to that old dusty trail.
Tell us what is your truck payment?
We don't have one.
No, do you have a truck?
Got a 2024 rammed 2,500.
That's a nice car.
Or a nice truck, per se.
How'd you pay cash for that or pay off the loan?
Well, we paid her car off a couple years ago,
so we were able to save up and give me one.
So with the freed up payment, you spent,
all right, let's just snowball that into savings
and save up and bake.
What does a truck like that cost?
Because I feel like trucks right now
are so expensive.
If you're doing cash, it's around 50.
Okay, and if you're not doing cash?
I don't know.
This is a used one.
Okay.
So they probably would have tacked on some.
Did you haggle them down?
Any negotiating skills?
Yeah.
Were they kind of scared of you, though?
A little bit.
Yeah.
She said, were you kind of like go into mean mug mode
when it comes to car negotiation?
Yeah, I'm just black and white with it.
Like, hey, man, I'm paying cash.
Like I'm paying cash.
I'm not here to play games.
If you want to sell a car today, you go for it.
If not, I'm out of here.
Don't waste my time.
Ship down the road, that's right.
Okay, what are you driving?
Uh, 2019 Chevy Traverse.
Oh, nice.
You enjoying that?
I love it.
That's great.
Are you doing anything utility-wise with the truck?
Or just you enjoy driving trucks?
We live on some acreage, so I'm constantly using the truck.
Our kids are into sports, so it's good to have.
Just throw everything in the back.
It's good to have everything in the back.
Well, congrats on all the success, guys.
Keep living debt free.
What's your truck payment?
$250.
$250.
It's the year-making model.
It's not a truck, but it's a 2015 Honda Accord.
Oh, nice.
How long you had it for?
Two years, two and a half.
Okay.
You bought it used, I imagine?
Yes.
Okay, what's the loan balance?
I'm not sure off the top of my head.
You're just paying the payment every month, minimum payment?
You got any other debt?
I do not.
Thankfully.
Are you in school working full-time?
What are you up to?
I went to school.
I graduated.
I got my associates at Metropolitan and Missouri.
Nice.
So I haven't went back yet, but plan on it.
Okay, and you're working right now?
Yes, I work at an ice rink in Missouri.
Nice.
Okay, what's the game plan to pay the car off?
Are you gonna try to pay it off early or make minimum payments until?
It's done.
I mean, I wouldn't say it's minimum.
I add a little extra like 50 bucks just to, you know, take care of interest and all that.
Yeah.
Are you renting right now or living with family?
What's the living situation?
I'm living with family right now.
Okay.
So once you think you graduate, you're getting that full-time job, you'll be able to throw more at that car?
Correct.
Okay.
You have any other goals around?
goals around wealth? Honestly, I mean, I just want to have enough money to do what I want.
And then if I have extra, you know, I got extra, put it back. For savings, yeah.
Is it like, I hope I have extra? What's the game plan to have extra once you have that
full-time job? Works, put money aside, and then just go from there. Force myself to save.
Pay yourself first, save first before you enjoy it and go spend it all. Yep, exactly.
Well, I got the thing for that. It's called the budget. Every dollar is the one that I recommend.
If you want to download in the App Store, track your income, all of your expenses, and you won't wonder where the money went.
It's pretty cool. Sounds good. Good luck, man. I got to say, as much as I hate car payments, I really enjoy talking to some country music fans today and learning about their personal finances. Some encouraging, some very discouraging.
And it's past my bedtime, but don't let the fun stop for you. Click here to watch this next one where I asked even more country music fans about their truck payment. Click or use the link in the description. Thanks for watching. We'll see you next time.
