Me and the team really appreciate your support.
The horizon is a blaze in fiery red, deep orange and blush pink. The vibrant sunset is only visible in slivers between the trees, which stand thick and
tall around you.
But what you can see of it is truly magnificent.
The sky above is darkening to a silvery blue, as night approaches.
And the very first stars are beginning to twinkle faintly. Their brilliance will grow as darkness falls, here
in the forest.
Your private cabin stands behind you, a haven of comfort and rest. You're head inside to sleep in a while.
But now you want to enjoy one of the best parts of where you're staying.
The fire pit.
It's large and ringed with heavy grey stones. Despite their jagged angles, they fit together
well, creating a protective circle around the center. The remnants of someone else's
fire are still visible. Small chunks of blackened wood and mounds of ash provide the perfect base for
the one you'll make now. From a short stand near the cabin's porch,
you collect an arm for of kindling. Your hosts were kind enough to leave some crumpled newspaper and wood
shavings to help you start the fire. You carry them all over to the pit and set them
down in an untidy heap. One by one, you place the pieces of newspaper and bundles of wood shavings inside until they
form a neat mound.
All around you, there are tufts of fallen pine needles on the ground, as well as dry leaves
and grasses. You amble around the fire pit, collecting
handfuls of them to use as tinder. Careful not to unsettle the mound you've already
built. You push the tinder into the cracks and crevices.
Near the edge of the stone circle, there's a box of extra long matches.
You tap open the cardboard and slide out one of the thin wooden fire starters. Holding it gently between your fingers, you strike it on the
rough red side of the box. In an instant, the end of the match sparks to life, sending sending up a little puff of sulphur which tickles your nose.
You carefully poke it into the pile, watching as the edges of the newspaper begin to glow and Before long, the mound goes up in flames.
Carefully, you rest the pieces of kindling on top.
The thin, rough splinters of wood stand in a jumble around the burning centre, like matchsticks dropped on the ground.
But soon, they begin to catch as well. The fire is lit.
For a moment, you sit back on your heels, admiring your handiwork. The kindling bands slowly, but
you know it's deceptive. If you don't build up the fire soon, it could go out. You stand and walk back over to the porch.
Your hosts have left you a generous stack of firewood for you to use as you please.
With a keen eye, you gather just the right size and shape locks for the new blaze.
