My name is Thomas and I am your host.
Thanks so much for being here, whether it's the first time you've tuned in or one of
many, it's a pleasure to have your company. Tonight we'll journey to the warm, inviting waters
of the Turkish Mediterranean coast, where we'll explore Kokovar Island and its breathtaking
surroundings. Before we begin, I just wanted to point out something new we're doing here on the show.
Those of you who like to take a look at the episode notes when you come to listen, may
have noticed that we're now including mentions of the different content and themes that appear
in each story.
That's because we know our story is a diverse, something we take great pride in.
We understand that not every single story is likely to be everybody's cup of tea. For
instance, some of you love when we take a trip full of culinary delights or swim in the
ocean, while others might prefer to avoid those sorts of things.
With that in mind, we'll now be including mentions of potentially sensitive topics in
all of our shounakes going forward, so that you can be sure you find the stories that
are right for you.
We hope that this just helps that bit more in making sleep even easier to come by when
you listen to get sleepy.
Now then, let's get settled in for tonight's story shall we?
Take a nice deep breath in, holding at the top, and then gently release the air back out.
As you sense your body sinking deeper into bed, just give yourself complete and entire permission to switch off from the events of the day.
To let go of anything disruptive, your mind is holding on to.
This is a time for peace and eyelids, you may notice a few or light appearing in your mind's eye. Just go with it, letting those visuals expand
and evolve in your imagination. And begin picturing a serene blue sea, glistening under warm golden sunshine.
We're about to drift to the shores of the Turkish Mediterranean coast. Where the calm Aquamarine sea gently laps the smooth pale pebbles on the beach.
This is where our story begins. You're standing on a simple jetty, feeling the warm sun caress your skin.
As you allow its warmth to envelop you, you are filled with peaceful, happy feelings. You take in a deep breath of fragrant salty air and notice the rocky landscape all around.
Creamy rocks and boulders crowned with olive trees, lemon trees and Mediterranean shrubs
surround you. the sea laps at the shore just behind Beside you, you notice a boat.
See its rich wooden panoing and its top deck perfect for watching any passing scenery.
The clear bright blue sea ripples around the boat.
It seems to glisten and dance in the warm sunlight.
It is so clear that you can see the pale rocks of the sea floor just a couple of meters
below.
You take another breath of well-being as you watch the water.
Then you notice a shell of tiny fish darting beneath the surface.
Their silver bodies flash in the sunlight as they turn.
They invite you to towards the boat.
Your feet seem to find their own way off of the jetty and onto the gangway without you
having to give it any thought.
You pad along it quietly and climb onto the lower deck.
On board you take in the relaxing sway of the boat on the water.
It's so calming and restful.
Then you find a comfortable seat.
It's out on the lower deck and it has a perfect view of everything around you.
The seat supports your body fully and brings you a sense of contentment and well-being.
The sun is still warm and now a soft, comfortable breeze is playing against your skin.
In this moment you are grateful for the delightful weather you've had all day.
Then, just as you are ready to explore the sea ahead of you, the boat's motor hums to life.
It feels just like magic. You begin to move gracefully towards the island.
As the boat carries you along, you realize that any worries or preoccupations simply dissolve. It is as if you left them on the jetty to disappear into thin air.
You simply relax into the present moment, knowing that there is nothing to do except you, except allow yourself to be carried towards Kecova Island. So you let yourself be taken.
As the island draws nearer, you can make out more clearly the silvery green of its olive trees that stretch out all along its surface
Amongst them are chunky pinkish boulders that tumble into the sea
The closer you get the more you notice patterns and structures on the island.
You wonder what the patterns are, and soon realize that winding up from the sea to the
olive trees are ancient stone steps cut into the rock. You trace these steps with your gaze and see that they lead
to weathered platforms and strange, stunted walls. They are the remains of an ancient, blissian city. As the boat approaches the island, you see more
and more of this city. Ruined buildings nestled in the olive trees grow clearer, their edges and curves coming into focus. Then your eye drifts to the shimmering
water's edge. Just below the surface of the water, only a few meters off the island are the sunken remains of more ancient buildings.
Their foundations are visible, made of rugged stone, and carefully built long ago by skillful
hands. As the boat slows to a gentle stop, you fear the sense of wonder enveloping you.
How beautiful it is to see where humans have left a record of their lives in years gone
by. The faint sounds of a lazily bustling port drift into your imagination like a shadow
of this ancient city. You close your eyes and take time to imagine it fully. You invite Kekova Ryland to show you its past.
Splash. The sound of an ancient anchor hits the sea and you can see Kekova in its day.
The gentle murmur of fishermen seems to drift on the wind.
You can see the fisherman's catch, silvery fish glistening in the sun.
Men haul them off of the simple wooden boats.
You imagine the ladies of the city happily bartering for the best deal, exchanging stories
and laughing with each other. Then, the soft, pitter-patter of sandal feet climbing those stone steps up and down, up and down,
seems to reverberate through the years.
You can hear the hum of men exchanging news and ideas, and the sing-song voices of children as they greet their friends.
You picture a small child playing with a dog on a jetty.
It pants and barks happily, wagging its tail.
barks happily, wagging its tail. Up on the hills in the olive groves, a boy shepherding snow-white goats makes his way towards
town.
You can hear the goats as they bleep lazily trotting through the shrubs. You take full pleasure in immersing yourself in
this daily life that happened thousands of years ago. You can connect with the
carefree simplicity of living so close to nature in a familiar community. You can feel the whosomeness
of a good day's work out at sea, or in the port, or in the olive groves. You sink into the relaxed contentment of dining outside in the warm evenings, or waking
up to the turquoise sea and the scent of lemon trees. Kakova Rylens magic opens your heart and seems to calm your whole being.
You then become aware of the soothing movement of the boat again.
It's as if something is calling you back.
as if something is calling you back. So just as magically as you found it, you let ancient cacover go. You allow the image of those people and their dreamy soft lives to melt away.
to melt away. But you also notice that the sense of well-being lingers in your bones. You slowly come back to the present, to the island today, still beautiful but fringed by its sunken ruined city.
The boat soon turns away, heading in a slightly different direction.
As you cast a last grateful look at the island and turn your head to the open water. You sense something wonderful ahead
of you. You are being ferried towards another jet upon its hill are the remains of a castle built
in pale, rusty sandstone.
You pick out a small path that zigzags from the jetty through a small village and up to this castle. You trace it with
your eyes as your boat slows down. Then you come to a stop. Taking your time getting off the boat, you make your way onto the jetty, where a sense
of curiosity washes over you.
You walk along the wooden jetty towards the village and the zigzagging path.
The air is full of the scent of rosemary and thyme.
You notice these herbs growing in abundance and breathe in their earthy aroma that lingers
in the air.
Your feet instinctively find the path which is light and slightly gravely.
You light out crunches softly underfoot. The path takes you through a series of wooden restaurants, closed but ready for customers
tomorrow.
You observe the tables and the chairs, lovingly made by hand. Once you've passed through them, your path leads you over a small hill. You
follow it down the hill and into a small courtyard lined with lemon trees. Their branches their branches bow with the weight of perfectly yellow lemons. You inhale their fresh scent.
The path continues out of the courtyard and begins to climb through the village. As you ascend, you pass houses painted white and pale yellow.
They have been carefully built into the slope of the land. The washing lines are laden with clean bed sheets that pillow in the rippling breeze.
You notice the care and attention that each, admiring the gnarled olive trees that
now line it.
Then the path begins to widen as you leave the village. The scent of herbs returns.
Then the path curves to the left.
You follow its sweeping arc, your sense of curiosity mounting.
The path takes you around a cluster of olive trees, and soon you find yourself at the foot of the
ruined castle.
You look at it full of wonder.
Casting your gaze up at the ruin, you find stone steps that are ready for you to explore. You make your way
towards them. As you climb, you notice that in between each stone, tiny white and pink flowers are growing. You carry on up the stairs. They weave up and up towards
the castle top. You notice more and more dainty flowers thriving in the cracks between the rocks of the castle walls, and sigh in contentment
at your idyllic surroundings.
Now at the last step, you marvel at the castle. Its ancient walls stand magnificently in front of you. You can see where windows
and doors would have been. Standing here, you can feel the warm sun beaming onto your back. You turn to face it and realize that below is the
most beautiful view. Up here at the top of the castle you can see the wide expanse of the Mediterranean Sea.
Kekovar Island sits in front of you, surrounded by the same brilliant turquoise water.
To your right, the mainland of Turkey stretches like a green arm dotted with rocks and trees.
The warm and gentle breeze up here cleanses your mind.
You are overcome with a deep feeling of happiness and peace as you look upon this wild, beautiful
view.
Then a quiet sense of movement ripples through you. You turn naturally back to the castle and find yourself wandering towards it.
You allow your feet to carry you through the gap in the ruined wall. You discover a special nook.
Perhaps it was a bedroom once.
The walls are worn and crumbled, but they largely still stand.
On one side is a rough rectangular hole.
You imagine that long ago a wooden door stood in this hole.
You can almost see it, rough and dark. But beyond the doorway is the same view of the brilliant sea and dusky green of Kekova
Island.
Looking at it from this perspective, it seems like a portal to another world. This is the perfect moment of peace that you didn't know you had been
looking for. You invite the peace to wash over you fully and completely. As it does, you become aware of the tiredness in your body.
It's the kind that comes after a long and wonderful journey.
The rectangular hole, the ancient doorway, is inviting you you forwards and you sense that something magical is about
to happen.
The beautiful view seems to shimmer in anticipation. You know that whatever happens, it will be inspiring and good.
So you gently lift your left foot and begin to step through the doorway.
As soon as it passes the stone, your body starts to tingle.
It's as if all your weight is being drained out of you.
You are steadily becoming as light and soft as a feather. You're almost through the doorway when the breeze turns and drifts towards
your back and out to sea. You are now so light and so soft that this breeze lifts you from behind.
It's as if you really are a feather ready to be carried by the wind.
You sense that all you need to do is relax. As you surrender to the warm gentle breeze, you feel yourself being lifted
off your feet and drifting into the air. You know you are perfectly safe here in this magical place.
Then the breeze begins to carry you away from the castle.
You float gently back down the slope, enveloped by a feeling of ease. The more you trust the breeze, the better you feel.
The breeze floats you softly and gently down towards the village. You watch the homes and washing lines pass under you. The lemon-centred
courtyard finds your nose. You breathe in the fresh scent of lemons once more. Then the breeze carries you past the wooden
restaurants. The breeze holds you lovingly. It floats you back along the jetty where you see the fish shimmering under the water.
Then it ushers you carefully back towards your boat.
You land on the top deck as lightly as a butterfly. You are pleased to see that a beautiful white
bed has been laid out for you. It is shrouded in a white cotton canopy to shade you from the light. You make your way towards it and caress the clean
batting. You lie down on its perfectly comfortable mattress. The pillows are the best that you have ever used, and the sheets are fresh and crisp.
It's easy to feel comfortable here.
Your mind drifts over the wonder of Cacovar Island,
and the perfect piece of your surroundings.
You sigh with relief, thanking the wind for its gentleness and relishing the beauty that
this island and the castle have shown you.
You pull the sheets over your body and let yourself relax.
As your breathing slows and your eyelids close. You thank yourself into the deepest, most restful sleep of your life in the full The peace of the Tarkish Mediterranean coast will still be with you. you ... ... you ...
